CoF has berserker gear. CoF will make you money rather than cost it. CoF will not scam you. I put that forth as an alternative, since you seem kind of new. You could also just sell the mats and pretty much just buy the set off the TP with the profit you make.

P.S.: The medium version of “Draconic” is “Emblazoned.” You want Emblazoned, an yes, it is the only crafted option.

Another option would be to use a mix to increase your boon duration. Healing, after all, is just one part of our support, and regeneration is, after all, a boon, and protection can be more valuable than healing after the fact. Consider 2 or 3 each of Dwayna, Monk, Grove, or Water.

My number one request would be headband or circlet-style headgear for heavy armor users. I would like to see the head shape of my tree sylvari while still having the option to customize their headgear. Since we already have the option to charge into battle with no helm at all, it’s hard to use realism as an objection.

Difference between healing and healing/p

I’m guessing you’re looking at an item with an upgrade in it. The item stats say “Healing Power” while the upgrade stats are listed simply as “Healing.” Despite the inconsistency, they are the same thing. In a couple places, you might even see the same stat referred to as “Compassion.”

The tooltips in this game have a lot of little inconsistencies and inaccuracies like that. Hopefully they get hammered out as time goes on.

Programming difficulty aside, there’s also the fact that the GW2 control scheme is what most MMOs use and therefore what most players are used to. The GW1 control scheme is very difficult for someone used to typical MMOs to adapt to and is one of the main reasons I didn’t play it much. The GW1 control scheme is also very impractical for a platformer, which is a big element of GW2.

Upgrade Slot for Prototype Fractal Capacitor

Would it really hurt for the exotic versions of the Prototype Fractal Capacitor to have an upgrade slot? I realize that the main point of these items is that they can upgraded to an ascended version. However, they still cost 1,350 tokens. That’s a huge time investment compared to other dungeon items. It would be really nice if they could be useful while we farmed the remaining 500 tokens for the Gift of Ascension. As it stands, a rare backpiece with a gem in it is superior, which just doesn’t seem right given the relative effort involved to acquire them.

I use the same build with Knight’s gear and/or Pre/Healing/Vit (with Berserker’s for my ascended slots, since the options there don’t have much variety anyway.) You get a passable amount of crit damage from the Valor tree alone, so you don’t have to focus on it as much. Making up for the lack of precision, however, is mandatory.

I’ll also say that you should be using more weapons than just those three. I can think of situations where I’d prefer each of our weapons over the rest in Fractals.

My dream list (that will probably never happen):
1. Quaggan! Adorableness incarnate. Coo!
2. Skritt. I’m from Skri—Pittsburgh in real life, so I feel a strange connection, even though my neighborhood doesn’t actually get regularly invaded by destroyers. Unless gentrification counts.
3. Kodan. I like androgynous races. These fit the bill, and the NPCs, at least, have awesome names.

I don’t really care for any of the races that actually stand a chance of becoming playable. I don’t like the Tengu aesthetically, the dwarves kind of bore me, and all the largos voice acting I’ve heard so far annoys me. I’d probably still play one of these races to level 30ish just to see the story when it was released, but not past that.

As an 80 guardian with an Empowering Might/Altruistic healing build, there are times when I pull out the torch. It’s a good choice in fights where it’s best to be ranged but otherwise don’t need the defense of a focus or shield. Even in melee, sword+torch, with torch 5 crits, potentially improves group DPS more than me just using a greatsword would with my particular build, at least if everyone else is in range of EM.

That said, in the harder dungeons, always using a torch would be suicide. You’d be fine leveling (except maybe in some of the Flame Legion areas where everything is immune to burning) but in group content, our other weapons are usually a better choice.

Can I ask what PVE mobs are kiting you at level 6, anyway? I can’t think of very many PVE enemies where that’s actually a problem, even without CC, and I can’t think of any in the starting zones. Most stuff that flees (bats, moas, etc.) just runs right back to you after a couple seconds.

Another thing to be aware of is that breaking a ranged mobs line of sight works to bring it to you, as in most other MMOs.

As you unlock your weapon skills and utilities, you get more gap closers. Greatsword 3, sword 2, and the utility Judge’s Intervention are probably the most notable. If you carry a staff and trait for shouts, you can also have decent swiftness uptime.

That said, mobility and range are weak points for the class in general, so don’t expect to be able to dart around like a thief (or even a warrior.)

Asura the fastest race?

My brother-in-law is tall. He can easily cover about a yard in a single stride. My young nephew takes three steps to cover the same distance, because his legs are shorter.

Every race in GW2 moves at exactly the same speed. Asura are much shorter than Norn, so the animators had to compensate by making it look like Asura take more steps. In other words, Asura are sprinting while Norn are out for a leisurely jog precisely because the races are equal in terms of unbuffed movement speed. (Although if you consider racials, Norn can actually be faster in short bursts.)

Why would you be angry at them if the new PvP server does not affect you? And what makes you think no one would want to play on it? There are plenty of people who would love to, i know this for fact as i personally asked many many game players, including some who do not play GW2 at all.

No one would stand for a FFA server with current game mechanics intact. Even if that were possible (and there are a lot of good posts in this thread explaining why it’s not) it would suck for actual FFA (for various other reasons already explained in this thread.) What people actually want is a FFA server that is balanced for FFA and, like all good games with FFA, gives people an incentive to actually participate in open-world PVP. They are not wrong to want this kind of thing. However, GW2 cannot provide that without a massive overhaul to the entire game.

If somehow it wouldn’t affect PVE, then no, I wouldn’t care. But I still firmly believe that to be done right, or at least well enough to be worth buying for FFA players, it has to.

I do when it is a whole different aspect of gameplay. I am not bothered that casual players can’t get Sunrise. I would be bothered if they couldn’t get greatswords at all.

This is a mini-game that a large portion of the population does not have access to. Ascended gear, even legendaries, with all their flaws, don’t bother me all that much, because they at least can be earned by pretty much anyone and are at least marginally dependent on actually playing the game rather than RNG or market manipulation. And there are non-legendary weapons and non-ascended gear. But this…this is not a good sign for where the game is headed

Weapon Sheathing

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Urthona.3198

Urthona.3198

I may just be imagining things, but I feel as though it may cancel the autoattack, at least for a split second. If you prefer to leave auto-target on, then your character has the tendency to keep autoattacking your target (or picking new targets) as you run away. If you can prevent that, then yeah, you may get out of combat a little faster.

It can also help interrupt your attacks that NEED to be interrupted and are hard to do so otherwise (e.g., guardian scepter auto-attack when hit by confusion.)

It’s not super-effective by any means, and it’s definitely not instantly breaking combat, but it’s something. I have it bound anyway just for ease of taking screenshots and whatnot, and I sometimes use it for this purpose since it’s there.

Some recipes in the game do require you to be level 80 to learn them (e.g., the Corrupted set.) However, those recipes have “Required level: 80” clearly displayed on the tooltip. The legendary gifts have no such restriction, and I do in fact have one learned on a sub-80 alt.

Umm. . .I care how I appear to other people, not to myself. I am not going to be the one sexualizing my toon; it’s the thirteen-year old gleefully spending the dungeon gushing about how pleased he is that his female toon’s breasts jiggle. When you have to retrieve that sword for the pre-Order quests, I recall it being hinted that the sylvari had loved the man who stole the sword and left him to die.

If you do the Priory option to actually witness the event, then you see that the squire who stole the sword was a preteen at the time (which makes sense, given that it happened ~20 years ago and the guy is still young enough to be a champion gladiator.) I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that the game isn’t implying that the Sylvari revere a pedophile.

If you’re looking for more hardcore theorycrafting, well, not a lot exists yet. Part of it is the fact that the game is new. Part of it is that Anet has left a lot of mechanics really opaque. The in-game combat log is very bare bones, and the target dummies don’t even work with a lot of mechanics, making controlled testing difficult. There’s only so much players can do without being told specific formulae (which get thrown at us by the devs only sporadically.)

One exotic chest with “Berserker” stats, for example, will be mechanically the same as any other exotic Berserker chest. Only the skins differ. You can read how the item nomenclature works here on the wiki and find a handy table of where to acquire various armor types here.

This game is lacking one thing for me, FFA

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Urthona.3198

Urthona.3198

Balance, my fellow players. Balance.

Ignoring all the other factors mentioned, this game is not balanced for FFA PVP. If they added such a thing, it would boil down to one of two scenarios:

1. Anet does nothing to balance FFA combat. This means FFA combat sucks for everyone who is not one of three or so builds, which could change at any given patch. Open-world PVP ultimately becomes predictable and frustrating.

2. Anet rebalances combat to accommodate FFA. Suddenly, everyone is affected by the new server. PVE balance suffers because the priority is no longer PVE or even WvW, but open-world PVP.

Ultimately, you’re only going to find good FFA in a game that’s actually devoted to it. GW2 is not that game, and it could not become that game without a massive overhaul the alienates a large portion (if not the majority) of the current playerbase.

At this point, the crit damage in the Valor line is basically the only thing making Altruistic Healing work. With the nerf to Vigorous Precision, Empowering Might is a main source of healing. Empowering Might and Vigorous Precision take a good chunk of precision to function. Precision, in turn, calls for crit damage, which you can’t find on gear with healing or toughness, but someone investing in those trees is obviously looking for survivability and/or support.

It’s not immediately apparent, but those trees really do have amazing synergy.

It won’t save anyone in an “Oh kitten!” moment, but that’s what the Tome of Mercy is for. Really, we don’t do spike healing very well anyway. If you want that, roll an elementalist or warrior.

guardian w/ empowering might trait and armor?

Urthona.3198

You’ll be hitting the internal cooldown of EM at about 50-60 crit, depending on weapon choice. With a 0/0/30/30/10 build, 50 is basically the upward limit of what you’re able to achieve anyway. In other words, if you are going to make EM worthwhile with this build, you’re going to need precision on basically everything. Whether you want to pair that with damage (‘Zerkers), toughness (Knight’s), or Healing (AC armor) is up to personal taste.

I also run 0/0/30/30/10, and the set of gear I use most for explorables is indeed precision/vit/HP. I rarely find the lack of toughness a problem, because it’s so easy to come by protection, blocks, and blinds. The hardest-hitting stuff is designed to be dodged anyway, not face-tanked. In high-level FotM, I find it better to switch to Knight’s gear instead, since agony can make higher HP a liability. And there’s always the option to switch out EM for PoV or something and use Cleric’s if the situation calls for it. (Yeah, bag space can be a pain with this build.)

Both in our world and in Tyria, a person who raises dead bodies is a necromancer, and person who designs technology is an engineer. There aren’t really other words in the English language to convey those concepts. But what about professions where it’s less clear cut?

Within the fictional universe of the game, would an average joe distinguish a Warrior from a Guardian or a Thief who maybe just left his plate armor at home, or would they all be considered different types of “warriors”? Would a stealthy person who carried two daggers still be called a Thief even if they were a law-abiding citizen?

Maybe the answer to this is obvious to those of you who played GW1 or read the novel, but having only played GW2 it’s not clear to me.
