Just resubbed to WoW and had more fun in Ashran (yes, that Ashran) than I did in 2 weeks of HoT. That should say something.
But HoT didn’t modify GW2. The casual Guild Wars you’re looking for didn’t vanish. It’s still out there. Go play in any of the core zones and you’ll find them as casual as ever.
Your analogy makes it look like GW2 was transformed into an entirely new game while in truth it simply added new (albeit different and less casual) zones. GW2 will need many many more expansions before the “car” becomes a “truck”.
Then why should someone buy the expansion if he might aswell play in the old zones?
That’s the main problem here, the expansion does not catter for the players that like the more easy gameplay of the core Tyria. And you can’t force them to adapt. Some of them might adapt but a lot of them will simply stop playing or will think twice before buying a new expansion in the future, and this will hurt ANet.
@displacedTitan
The issue players have is that GW2 was advertised and designed as a casual game for over 3 years, that’s why a lot of the players started playing it. Changing the direction of where the game goes or changing the target audience would upset such players ofc.
Imagine if you bought a car advertised as a family car, you buy it to casually drive it to work, vacations, etc. Then after 3 years the manufacturer recalls your car and modifies it into a truck. You wouldn’t really like that, if you wanted a truck you would’ve bought a truck from the beginning, you just want a family car.
Is it a 45 minutes timeout? WTH Anet lol. And I thought the 15mins deserter from WoW is long.
@OP: I disagree that every raiding game gets chewed up and spit out, but I do agree that slapping raiding into a 3 year game – a game that was never designed for the tried-and-true raiding trinity design – is a bit messy, to say the least.
Pretty much this. If I want raids I’ll go back to WoW, a game that was designed for raids and better raid content than anything GW2 can do with its current system.
Raids in GW2 were only added because players asked for challenging content, but the game was never designed for it. So you get this mishmash of ideas patched and stiched together to make it work somehow.
The reason why they are expensive and time consuming is because they GUARANTEE you get a precursor. You pay extra (in both time and gold) for this guarantee in order to avoid having to get the precursor using ordinary methods (Mystic forge/drops).
Still don’t understand why people are complaining about precursor crafting, obviously it has to be challenging/expensive in order to maintain (or not affect at all) the prices of tp precursors.
Buying from TP is a GUARANTEE also, with less money and less time involved. Your point is null.
Tempest is saved.
Hallelujah.
LMAO
Full zerk. Not kidding. Get Arcane Shield and you’re good to go.
1) Prevents people for constantly canceling/reposting products for sale
2) Adds another gold sink in the game to prevent inflantion
Update: 0/10 . Because I don’t play it anymore. Just checking forums now and then.
This has always been a problem with MMOs, IMO. Every group loves to have a healer, but if you’re actually focused on healing, you get no credit for being a contributing part of the the group.
MMOs who don’t have a trinity you mean, which are few.
It’s ironic to think about it tho, “oh we want players to run support builds more not just zerk” but “yeah about that, forgot to say if you don’t do enough damage you don’t get properly rewarded”.
Judging for how long it takes them to fix Howler, I wouldn’t hold my breath for this to be changed anytime soon.
People can complain because they payed money for the game and they are not satisfied.
Thus I complain about your post complaining about the people complaining.

Had this happened in VB aswell. Map was full for the Tarir event and the message to volunteer because there aren’t enough people popped up.
Welcome to the internet. Welcome to any MMO. The “Block” function is there for a reason. Good luck.
It’s a bug since day one that ANet still didn’t fix. Nothing you can do but die and restart the encounter.
Don’t forget to buy those new gem store outfits btw.

Not relevant or valid.
How is it not relevant? The OP asked what MMO had its issues resolved in 3 weeks after the launch of an expansion, and WoW did.
You cannot expect anyone to do what someone else is doing no matter how much you want it to be so. I despise Blizzard and most corporation but I don’t expect one to do the same as another even if they should..
I don’t get what you said there at all.
Dear OP, you’re not Lord of the Game. You don’t get to decide who can and can’t enter a map just because you and or guild don’t like them.
Pretty much this. You can always go find another map if you don’t like the people that surround you.
You are asking for complicated solutions when an easier one already exists.

Blizzard usually fix their bugs in less than two weeks after an expansion releases, but even then, those bugs are very minor in comparisson to what we see in HoT.
And the reason for that is that WoW has PTR servers where everything gets smoothed out before launch.
ANet still refuses to have a constant beta type of server, to protect their story or w.e that ends up a disaster anyway.
So after 2 weeks, what are people doing in HoT nowadays? Because I am literally back to logging in just for the daily rewards.
Level Masteries
I did like half of them, but I don’t see any point to progress further, since most of them have situational usage at best. They will level automagically just by doing content anyway.
Maps meta events
I did quite a few of them, but I don’t see any point to do them further unless just for gold. All the map specific armor sets are ugly imo, I’m not interested in collections since I do not enjoy grinding and neither do I have OCD, and I do not need the elite spec weapons because I already have legendaries and ascended gear.
Achievements
I do not really care about them, been playing for 3 years and just got 5k AP, so whatever, no real purpose to grind them.
One thing that maybe will keep me occupied will be Adventures, but is that all that’s left?
So what are you guys doing?
This is not a bashing thread btw, I just need some ideas on what to do in the new content that I might be missing.
WoW Legion seems to bring a lot of new features judging from what it was presented at Blizzcon. And after playing HoT for 2 weeks I’m inclining to go back to WoW in the near future.
The expansion just simply feels shallow to me and the recent shady practices from ANet kinda made me lost faith in this game. It slowly turns into a cash grabbing machine.
I payed for the skins and upgrades in the gemstore more than a WoW sub would cost me anyway, waaaayyy more.
Do it the way ANet expects you to do, buy gems with real money and convert them to gold.
So why are you replying on a thread about the story? Just to say you are not interested in the story? xd
You need to choose Berserker as the last trait line in your trait panel before you can use a torch. Same applies for each elite spec, you need to have that spec traited before using the specific weapon.
Open Task Manager and look for the amount of RAM usage for GW2 client there, idk what overlay you are using but seems it doesn’t work that good.
It’s a bit long vid, but imo he covers all the good and bad things about the story.
I wasn’t that impressed about the story in the expansion to start with, but after watching the video I realized how much the story is lacking even more.
Living world season 2 story was way more polished and had more content than this.
Uhm can you show a screenshot? Because for me the the 64bit client is using 274MB just by opening the launcher without even logging in.
So it’s just a matter of role playing?
Can ANet please stop announcing important stuff or releasing critical answers on Reddit, Twitter, etc. only?
I see more and more frequently stuff like “oh a dev gave an answer on Twitter” or “ANet replied on Reddit” or “There was a post on Reddit”, etc.., without anything posted on the official page or on forums regarding said matters unless players mention them.
Post important stuff on your official platforms then just link on Reddit, Facebook, Tumblr, Craigslist, eHarmony, etc. if needed.
Thank you.
Does Rytlock end up explaining how he got his “new magic”? Because I just remember he kept postponing the answer.
… when you can just buy it from the TP for less money, less time invested and less headaches?
Because I simply don’t get it.
Remind me to buy it if it starts flying and breathing fire.
And shoots lazerz from its eyes!
Because it’s less work for the same money. Simple as that.
Wait why dont I get all the prevous star wars movies when I see the new one.
Because they are separate movies. You did not get GW1 free if you purchased GW2.
For the billionth time: core game is free now, expansion alone costs 50$.
Putting any bugs and stability issues aside, since those are expected to happen with any major game release, what is your opinion on Heart of Thorns, did it deliver what it promised?
Personally I like a lot of the new things added and I’m enjoying the expansion so far, but yet cannot ignore the fact that a lot of things are missing or released half-done and the expansion feels rushed out just to meet the deadline.
- Fractals are incomplete
- World vs World is incomplete
- Story was rushed
- Some of the elite specializations were rushed
- Some of the masteries were rushed
- Scribing is incomplete
- 3 proper maps instead of 4 (DS cannot be considered a proper map, it’s the same as SW)
- QoL and proper QA testing seems missing in a lot of areas
Again, this is a talk about how HoT is at this very moment, not how it will be in a few months or years after “free updates Anet promised”.
Again an evidence of how unfinished the expansion is at release.

Average FPS: 140~200
I’m sorry, what? What game did you record that FPS in?
I have a 4790k @ 4.4Ghz (better than yours) and a GTX 980 (again, better than yours) and I only get half of that FPS at 1080p with supersample on.
People should stop making up those numbers…

You clearly haven’t seen the map chat during the meta events in DS and Tarir.
And wait until raids come. If the encounters are hard enough you will get the same happening in GW2 as in WoW.

IGN 7.6/10 – Not enough QoL restrictions
I like how everyone assumes he has a 64bit OS or a 64bit capable CPU.
I always undercut with 1 copper because I know it drives certain people crazy.
First of all, I like some of the content of the expansion, and I won’t refund it, but I can’t justify the price if someone would ask me.
I see a lot of people justifying the 50$ as “We will have 2-3 years of free content updates!”. But you have no idea what content you will get and how much. They might aswell add a raid and that’s it. And that’s not enough. Balancing patches and mechanic changes is not classified as content.
At this very moment, if someone would ask me if they should buy HoT, I would tell them to buy Witcher 3 instead.
Nuhoch 2. Gliding 5. Nuhoch 4. Gliding 6. In that order.
If IGN struggles with mobs it says much about their abilities, but y they always scratch the surface as they cant invest enough time
No average player will invest enough time.
I’ve been reading some comments on a youtube vid yesterday that was reviewing the core game, and there were a lot of them of the type “I’ve tried it for a little while but it didn’t grab me in”.
There are a lot of games out there nowadays, to be successful you need to grab a player’s attention fast, else he will move on and try to find a better game.
And before you say “Fine, we don’t need casual players”, look what happened to Wildstar.
Since the Volunteer system was introduced I experienced it only 2 times in core Tyria (a year or so?).
On HoT maps I’ve got the pop up around 15 times since launch (2 weeks).
They said they addressed the mega server issues, so not sure why I keep getting notified that maps are too empty.
The whole design of the game encourages running past everything. YES the maps are beautiful, its a shame they are all just a blur as i run by at warp 8 with a million vet mobs shooting slowing arrows and knocking me down. Oh why not team up and fight them? Anytime ive tried that the minute i took aggro from the other person, THEY took off at warp 8 SEE YA SUCKER! ok back to the WP ….oh wait contested back to the start of the map!
This was bothering me even from day one, why make beautiful maps when you have no time to admire them.
All I can say about VB for example is that is tall and green, have no idea about what the minor details are.
I can outrun a centaur!
On a serious note, there should be an audio option to turn off all character voice overs.
