Just think about it, 3 years ago this topic wouldn’t have existed, and ingame it’s way worse.
It’s still a good community, but the introductions of raids cracked a huge rift between different segments of the population, and this is not good on the long run.
The amount of salt on one side, and elitism on the other, is quickly growing to WoW levels, and people who stayed in GW2 due to the community, will leave eventually.
Food for thought.
Gief pantzzzzzzzz!
Raids are not the be all and end all, stop making changes to the classes just to balance the very top end PvE scene that 90% of the player base can’t even get close to.
Just because a few players in some no lyf guilds can achieve a billion DPS that doesn’t mean you have to nerf the class for everyone, including for SPVP and WvW players.
Most of the players can’t even get to half the DPS numbers in the online benchmarks, and yet you make changes just because someone posted a video of him getting a gazillion DPS on a golem on his 468th try.
/rant over
Tempests had its reign as top tier DPS during HOT when they needed to sell copies of the expac. Now that PoF is out, they had to nerf Tempests so that people will buy the new expac for the Weaver spec.
If this happens they shoot themselves in the foot with all the elite specializations idea and horizontal progression and all that fancy stuff they’ve advertised.
Would not be better than a new gear tier in another mmo for example that makes the previous one useless.
Can we please get a static animation for it like the mini Tequatl has?
It’s a shame having to move all the time in order to see it fly, has a really nice model and animation.
Not sure what planet you’re from, but nowadays it’s way easier to hate and criticise than to come with solutions or praise something, or even be objective for that matter.
It gives people a superiority complex that makes them feel good for a second and make them forget about the failures in their own lives.
Think of it as a trendy “flavor of the month” stress reliever.
What is this “support” thing you talk about?
#aintnobodygottaimfodat
PS: #leavetaimialone
Expansion comes around october, so the next balance patch will be around march next year, if not later.
There’s no point of a balance patch right before new specializations are introduced with the expansion coming.
The system is made to make their life easier, not yours, aka they can’t be bothered to deal with chargebacks and fraudulent purchases so they punish all the customers instead, it’s cheaper.
Why………..?
Hope screenshots would be suffice to show the location, I’m sitting right at the edge of it when I have my tag on.
The treasure mushrooms, at least the ones in Dragon’s Stand, simply disappear after 5-10 secs after they get engaged in combat.
No dear, they are in the same NA or EU datacenter, but are spread across many physical servers, hence Slipycheese’s notion that it is always down to people’s connection is nonsense.
In fact the tool he suggests confirms it is nonsense, I use it, and sure at times it is a connection/hop at fault, but guess what at times it confirms it is at Anet’s end, especially in things like 3 way blob fights at SM in WvW, the game/ Anet servers simply can’t cope with it properly much of the time.
Pretty much this.
Either the server or the client can’t handle the flood of incoming packets during massive zergs (metas in DS, traitor in AB, WvW, EotM, etc) and connections are dropped due to timeouts. You can sometimes notice a huge delay, then all the packets get processed at once, if you are lucky.
Lots of facebook “experts” around nowadays talking without having any clue about how “ze internetz” works.
Can confirm this, had a different issue recently and they basically told me to go kitten myself because they don’t have the tools to help me, even if it’s a game breaking bug.

I’ve played the game since LS1, quit a month after HoT released, and now I started playing again, and the more I played the more I realized how changed the game is now.
And by changed I don’t mean content, features or mechanics being shifted around or added, but the core of what GW2 used to be seems lost.
I came to GW2 after years of hardcore raiding in WoW, it was something new and different, and altho it wasn’t the “WoW killer” everyone expected it to be, it was fresh and interesting enough to be unique and have its own place in the crowded MMO world.
Everything was focused on cooperation, I was literally shocked by how nice the community was ingame compared to WoW, the content was designed for large numbers of players, etc…
Now, I don’t know anymore, it just feels like all those things are just there in the background, with GW2 now focusing on raids, and the community shifted massively with this change. That old content is still there ofc, but it’s just that, old content, that…it’s there.
- The amount of salt, elitism and player base split makes this game no different than any other MMO now, especially with meters being introduced to the game. Players will always choose to be first in a numbers competition over helping someone else. It’s the nature of competitive gameplay.
- You also now have mandatory holy trinity as well if you want to succeed in top tier content. Not needed for open world content, but like I said that content it’s either old or not really relevant. You don’t really need a holy trinity if you do old content in WoW either for example, or for mindlessly killing horses to skin them for leather.
- You don’t have any gear treadmill, but you now have the mastery treadmill if you want to succeed in end content, it’s like potayto/potahto, still a treadmill that will get obsolete eventually. Tell me how I can use the Itzel mastery in LS3 please, or the Exalted one, or the Nuhoch. Doubt they will be useful in any new content ever again. But you needed to get them because Anet gated some content behind those masteries, so they weren’t really optional. It’s the same as farming for a tier of gear that will get obsolete when the new fancy one appears, e.g. the new LS3 mastery track.

TLDR; What makes GW2 different than any other generic MMO right now?
How would you convince a WoW player for example to come and play GW2 today? Because I can’t think of anything else but “well it’s like WoW, but different…it has asuras instead of gnomes, and you don’t need 100 addons to be able to get into a raid…yet”
This topic now has over one thousand replies and fifty times more views. That should say a great deal by itself.
I disagree. Changing your build is how you learn and grow with the game.
Lolwut? Dude, it’s a game, not a lifestyle…
Unless you have no other life.
You are asking for better communication from a company who’s employees spend most of their time posting on reddit and tumblr or whatnot.
They’ve been criticized for the amateurish communication for years now, doesn’t look like anything is going to ever change.
You can argue all day long, but in the end it’s all a numbers’ game for ANet, and I think they had their lesson learned for the next expansion.
You can already see that now in LS3. Compare the final fights in HoT or even LS2 episodes to current ones, for example.
The fact that we still have topics like this 1.5 years after release means that HoT did something very wrong, there’s no point in defending it and trying to find excuses.
Yes, HoT had a very steep difficulty increase to address the vocal minority that was crying that the game is too easy for them. In return that screwed up the majority of the casual players, since ANet decided to treat all players the same instead of focusing and splitting the content to different kinds of player groups.
Why is this even debated, even Anet admited indirectly HoT was a bust, hence why they are trying to salvage what they can now.
Yes, HoT failed in all aspects, minus the art and music departments.
LMAO.
People like the OP (who is not even gay I bet) are the reason why the LGBT community is still not considered a part of normality.
If everyone would treat them as being non-special normal human beings instead of special snowflakes then there wouldn’t be any issue.
You can see that most of they gay persons are totally against this useless suggestion, because it does more harm than good.
Have you ever been to a jungle irl? It’s supposed to be claustrophobic…
Been a raider in WoW for 5-6 years. And what I’ve experienced there made me not want to ever touch raids in GW2.
1) You cannot have amazing raids without a holy trinity and specific jobs. You can try to emulate the trinity with soft builds and such, but it’s not the same. And that hinders the raid design, since you have to work around these limitations.
2) If you do not have a guild or you’re not close to the guys who are calling the shots then you’ll never be part of the core raiding group.
3) You can’t pug raids, unless you carry a large amount of aloe vera with you.
4) Competitiveness brings the worst in people. That guild leader who you thought was cool and a nice guy will simply destroy you and kick you out of the guild if you wipe the raid accidentally at that time of the month.
5) You need to be invested in it. You need to respect schedules, you need to be able to spend hours and hours repeating the same encounter, you need to devote your entire gameplay to raid progression. Basically do everything that’s opposite to what this game stands for.
TLDR; Raids are not for everybody.
We all know how the expansion went so far as a whole, and there’s legitimate hate towards it due to a game design decision or the other, but I think there’s not enough appreciation towards what the expansion did absolutely right, and that’s the art and music.
Doesn’t matter how often you die in the jungle you cannot ignore its beauty and vastness, and how everything just perfectly fits together, from the vegetation or monsters, to the jungle sounds, to the music in Tarir or the one from DS meta finale.
So kudos to the art and music team!
WTB server merges.
There are no servers.
Wait… someone was rude to you on the internet for no reason? That never happened to anyone, should call the internet police!
/endsarcasm
Do we really need to open a topic every time someone is not playing nice with the dolls?
Scribing is the black sheep of crafting professions… That who shall not be named!
Might be a surprise, but some people already have a job irl and they just play games for fun and to relax, not to get a second job ingame.
Me and 4 of my friends quit a couple of weeks after HoT released.
Also my 30-40 ppl guild disbanded due to low member activity.
I’m just reading the forums once in a while to see if something changes.
Been in Queensdale last night. Ran around for about 20mins. Saw 3 players.
A year ago around the same time I would’ve seen around 20-30 players.
Might’ve been a new map, might have not.
This is because the TP is actually separated from the main game, think of it as a web plugin, thus is slow as kitten. Why was the decision of designing it this way taken? Nobody knows…
Let me guess, the OP is in the anti-zerk group because he fails to play as one, thus anyone who can play zerk fine is an exploiter. FML.
If I want to put a gazillion points into offensive builds and do 223238298392 damage than that’s my choice, just like it’s your choice to put a gazillion points into toughness and be kitteneless tank that doesn’t do anything.
I thought it was a display bug and turned off the names.
Ups
Why didn’t I think of that… Off with their heads names!
Please remove them from PvE or make them toggleable, tired of seeing I, II, III, IV, etc everywhere like I’m in a roman army or something.
ArenaNet logic: nerf visual effects because of clutter, but add more static clutter with unecessary icons.

Comparing a single player game story to an MMO story though is probably not the best thing to do. I haven’t really found stories in MMOs generally to compare to games that focus on stories like single player RPGs. Those entire games are designed around stories. MMOs are designed around other things like progression.
The Guild Wars 2 story compares with the story of most, but not all, MMOs I’ve tried. The exception would be SWToR, which was created by a single player company known for their stories. But single player games in general are better at story. It’s the heart of most single player games.
Way better story ending with way crappier graphics.
Lawl @Gaile.
This is gonna bite Anet in the behind so bad in the future now that you’ve set a precedent.

Talking about the idiocy of white knights at its finest.
The OP only referred to the way questing and class unique feels are in WoW compared to GW2. That’s it. I don’t see him mentioning anything about end game gear or grinding or anything like that.
You know you could say GW2 took raids from WoW right?
It might aswell take other good things and implement it in the game, just like WoW is implementing a wardrobe system in the next expansion, a thing that GW2 had for years. Does that make WoW a GW2 clone?
I even bet half of you didn’t even play WoW and you’re just bashing on the game based on what others say. If it’s such a bad game how come it’s still the MMO with the most active players, even after the decline in population and even with a monthly sub fee?
The game is not perfect, but you must be a fool to say there’s nothing good in WoW, because there are a lot of things that WoW does right and GW2 could borrow those ideas and implement them in its own way.
(edited by VaLee.5102)
So HoT won Best DLC Award?
Get the 4790K. It has the highest clock per core, which is the only thing that matters for GW2.
It’s a beast and a lot cheaper that the enthusiast hexacores.
Plus is compatible with the Z97.
(edited by VaLee.5102)
I mean with my i5 3570k 16GB of 2400 RAM, and a single GTX 970 I’m over 60FPS everywhere in the game at maximum settings in game and additional visual quality enhancements at driver level.
Go on SW near the training dummies in the starting area and look towards the waypoint, or go to an active boss event like Karak or Frozen Maw, or go to the start of Verdant Brink, and show a print screen with your settings and FPS please.
Because there’s no way you get 60fps there with all maxed at 1080p. All maxed includes Supersample and reflections set to All aswell btw.
Cool, maybe address your community on the mainstream official Arena Net Guild Wars 2 Website Forums from now on???? Most logical place among consumers.
Logic…………..common sense plz, I did not go to college fore 4 years of computer science for nothing………..sigh……….
Well…seems they did
its very true. in really, its a social/political fact, more hostile enviroment == more hostile ppl.
Pretty much this.
People don’t help other people in HoT because now there’s a risk they might get screwed themselves.
Why should I try to res you and risk getting roflstomped by that champ when I could aswell run past you both and mind my own business?
And can you blame me?
I feel this is a mistake, because the inclusive philosophy of the game has created it’s overall positive and healthy community. The introduction of exclusive content is what, I feel, breeds a degree of toxicity that can be found rampant in other MMOs like WoW. This toxicity comes in the form of a degree of elitism, feelings of exclusion due to the limit of players, exclusion of certain classes due to imbalance issues, abuse of new or casual players who want to participate but are still learning the content and barrier to entry in the form of ascended gear which has historically been optional in all content.
Tbh I think this would have worse side effects in GW2 than in WoW, since in GW2 everyone was more or less on the same page, now with the raids there’s gonna be a fracture in the community, a fracture that already started to happen with the release of HoT. In WoW on the other hand, you already know what you’re getting into.
This is like wanting to buy a car that costs 6000 $, but you can only give 100 $ each day.
What’s the point of it?
Should i have said made a measuring stick for the sake of proving a point about equality ?
Both sides complained about the length of time when they mentioned it takes/took (x) days.
It’s hypocritical. Who cares how long your legendary took to craft compared to another person. The point being brought up is a fairly simple one previous method versus current method and how there’s now a forced time-gate as opposed to a self imposed one.
It’s futile to explain this. The fanboism washed their brains.
You kind of even get the feeling that Anet spent more time showboating this game at all those gameshows all summer than actually working on the game. All we had all summer was check out Hot at this "gaming related event or watch this video that cost time and money to produce to showcase content and waste money instead of a simple text based post like other games. No content for Gw2 all summer so they could prepare there speeches and presentation to build up hype just to pull it over on the unsuspected masses.
Speaking of this, WoW already showcased all the features for the next expansion and also has a closed public alpha out already, and that’s almost one year before release.
Compare that to HoT, when we didn’t know what will the druid be like until 2 weeks before release. And I wonder why…no I’m not.
I came to this game for exploration and solo open world content, not for timed events or raids – sorry, but WoW does raiding much better and I still have the account.
A thousand times this. GW2 has lost its character and what made it quite unique.
And I payed more in gems for upgrades like bank slots, bag slots, mats storage, hair dyes, weapons skins, armor skins, transmog charges, etc. in GW2 than I would pay for a sub for WoW for example, a game that has all those features for free. So the “GW2 is free” argument is null, unless you’re swimming in gold.
