Monki.5012I disagree. longbow does weak to average damage but playing in a instance is playing as a team.
In that usage I was using “instance” with it’s common English definition. Next time I’ll use the word “case” for clarification.
So I repeat; there are many cases where you’re practically forced to use a ranged weapon – and the rifle is the better of the two.
Monki.5012Imo the damage the whole group does with buring applied by 5 people and 3 stacks of Groupmight for each partymember does more damage in total than personal damage like a high crit killshot
Burning is applied by many classes, many of whom can do it better to Warrior due to having more viable condition damage builds. If you’re with a guardian, an elementalist or an engineer, chances are that they’re already doing burning damage.
I also don’t need to trait my rifle to hit a target 1200 units away. The longbow does have it’s uses, especially during WvWvW sieges – but overall the rifle is generally the superior ranged option for warriors. It does more damage, it has more range and it has close range emergency control that can be surprisingly helpful if you’re incidentally caught in combat with your crappy peashooter – like this one time I knocked a thief back and quickly switched to eviscerate, taking 90% of his health of because he was (like most thieves) a glass cannon.

Assassin X.8573Warriors arent designed to be tanks in gw2. They are designed as dps.
Technically nobody is designed for tanking, no holy trinity, remember?
So i am kittened then? GG A net. Forced to play engineer……that sux i hate shotguns.
No. There are many instances where you’re practically forced to use a ranged weapon – and the rifle is the better of the two.
Make shield block an active skill and make it share energy/stamina with dodge.
Would make this class a lot better (together with Guardians and Engineers)
No it would not make the class better, it would mean we have to choose between blocking and dodging – as opposed to now where we can do both.
That’s not a full plate armour. That’s a chainmail with a breastplate on top + vambraces and leg armour.
That’s western European transitional armor from the latter half of the XIVth century – something that is as heavy as later plate armor but with poorer weight distribution. So your point is kind of null.
While I wish it was not so, rifle warrior is both boring and so underwhelming that it is reduced to a secondary weapon for when melee is not an option.
I have axe/shield with sword/warhorn on backup. Sometimes I’ll switch my backup for the hammer, longbow or rifle when the situation calls for it.
I would also, love to hear more about these profession philosophies.
@Varyag, never had the need to blog shots for a few 3 secs,
though I would low a thief detector, they always manage to get
up behind me, and before I can react, they have downed me,
….so much for wearing heavy armor.
Would be nice if Warrios at least got immunity to backstabs or something like that.
I said it was “fun”, like the physical skills – I never said they were viable.
But no, you don’t need immunity to backstabs.
No, keep it at it’s current price. It’s not really fair to the guys who’ve already bought it.
Yeah, I do it also. Extra ability to adapt to various situations will make you more useful and also more likely to survive when you otherwise wouldn’t – it’s a no brainer. Just keep in mind that you could be ambushed at any second with the wrong weapons equipped…
Shield is a combination of an “oh kitten” spike survival skill with a stun, though the cooldowns are rather poor without the Shield Master trait. Another fun addition is to use the missile reflection trait, I’ve watched several Rangers, pistol Thieves and occasionally others almost kill themselves by trying to shoot at me.
It opens up some neat possibilities, and doesn’t really buff 100 blades which is what arena net is afraid of.
Shield Bash > Hundred Blades > Bulls Charge > Hundred Blades?
No, they were subtle. Really, if you want forced look at some Bioware games…
Guild Wars did, don’t know about now, I’ll need to reinstall and tell you. But I’m giving Guild Wars 2 a chance, the first one turned out so well that they’ve deserved the benefit of the doubt that they might be making this game – especially the sPvP – have more content. Besides, it’s not like I’m paying my monthly fee to play this game or anything…
Balancing is an issue in every MMO, it’ll be endlessly adjusted and get better eventually.
Doesn’t bother me, except Thieve’s Guild is kind of a cheap skill, but the entire profession is like that so… doesn’t bother me. Mark the target who controls the NPC’s in question and solve the problem by killing them.
This is not an issue – quite a few melee skills in Guild Wars also had activation times, deal with it.
Cause most just cant be bothered cause they know its BS to have casting time for melee skills. They just roll another class or go back to their previous mmos to play melee class.
Warrior and Guardian are amongst the – if not the - most popular classes in the game, almost all of these players use melee weapons as their primary.
I just don’t get why ppl say no to extra stuff lol..
Because there is better extra stuff they could be spending their resources on.
Best Greatsword skill for Warrior.
I don’t see the issue with hundred blades builds, if you see it coming then it is as easy to counter as it is to use – and it’s very very easy to use. Thief is a faceroll class and everybody knows it. As for Guardians, meh, never been impressed by their offensive abilities – except when using Judge’s Intervention to stomp teleporting Thieves in downed state, but that’s because it’s funny more than anything.
I think one-shot type builds (even if they are five shots in one-two second) should be as easy to counter as they are to play – as somebody who has both a Thief and a Warrior who’ve been used in sPvP and WvWvW, I can say they’re extremely easy to use.
I’ll be blunt – the only thing Rampage should keep from it’s current form is the name. Really, transformation skills do not belong in a distinctively non-magic class.
Scythes is not gonna happen, a scythe is a farming tool, not a weapon of war.
Here’s the thing, Guild Wars had a scythe-wielding profession. Here’s another thing, Guild Wars 2 is in no way reflective of realism or medieval warfare – nor should it be, it’s a fantasy MMORPG.
Scythes would be a cool return if the Dervish came with them, otherwise it should be a Necro weapon more than anything.
Katanas.
Oh please no. If “katanas” are going to be in, they’ll just be regular sword skins – like in the first Guild Wars.
The most likely weapons I can see coming, is either a two handed axe, or a halberd.
If they add them (and that’s an if), it would probably be easiest just to keep them as the same category as two handed axes are essentially polearms anyway.
But we’re not seeing anything for ages.
What’s great about GW2 PvP is that it’s different enough from WoW and GW1, and seems to upset players of those two games the most, that it will build an entirely new fanbase over time.
That isn’t the issue at all, it’s the lack of content and variety combined with the very slow and minor balancing updates. The new combat system shouldn’t be changed.
Yeah, I want to be a dual shield wielding Asuran Warrior, preferably the big sized shield you can get from Honor of the Waves dungeon.
Never, mounts are useless in video games unless they’re like the mounts in games like Mount&Blade – actually useful in combat.
That went right over my head… probably something to do with not being from the US.
You’re absolutely correct Siric, the balance rate at the moment is poor but the worst part is that we wait quite a while for patches that are too little.
Balanced class with exeptionaly no weakness in Spvp.
Hehe, that’s pretty funny.
Morning stars are essentially maces…
I would like to see a bayonet. We dont have as many bayonets in games like we used to in this country.
Hey, given how schizo the technology is in this game it wouldn’t be impossible. But I’d rather a warrior’s weapon than a soldier’s tool.
I was probably spoiled too much by Guild Wars and the PvP contained in that game. Compared to it’s predecessor the PvP in Guild Wars 2 is really lacking. We have one game mode and four maps, WvWvW is a good addition to PvP but it’s addition wasn’t worth what we lost: Random Arenas, Team Arenas, Heroes’ Ascent and Guild vs Guild – that’s without including the Lowbie Arenas and the additions from Factions (Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry… Alliance Battle was essentially a better version of GW2’s Conquest).

You’re either a liar or very lucky. Either way, I hate you. >=(
Axe/axe signet builds kitten face and if you’re fully decked in uniques, the support from other members of the group is -more- than enough to steamroll through dungeons.
After playing through many of the explore mode dungeons numerous times with various players and classes, I have to say that five signet Warriors are amongst the worst additions you could make to a party. “I do DPS” isn’t in itself a good enough reason for including you in my group, I expect even Greatsword/Axe+Axe Warriors to be bringing some support to the party (especially Battle Standard) and preferably an “oh kitten” skill. There is nothing worse than a five signet hurp durp Warrior who dies five or six times at every kitten boss – even if his stone throws do 1k damage each.
5) Control: Very little control that also isn’t very effective
Honestly, I have to disagree with this. Use a hammer with a mace secondary and you have two two stuns, a knockback, a knockdown, a push, a cripple and a daze. If you use a shield with your mace you get an additional stun, use a mace offhand instead and you’ll get another knockdown. If you wanted even more you could use the physical skills, they have an immobilize, a launch, a push and a knockdown – physical skills could use a bit of loving, but they’re usable for control in PvE quite easily. Bull’s Charge is widely loved in PvP also.
No, become a Wammo. It’s probably one of the most popular Warrior builds at the moment and involves three shouts combined with the grandmaster trait from the tactics line that grants healing with shouts. Combine this with soldier runes for the extra bonus of shout condition removal.
I personally don’t use it, but it’s very popular for good reason.
Guardians need throwing Shields, like Captain America.
Engineer has that covered already.
Since I hate WvW, and as a person I’m extremely competitive. I’m forced to play builds that function most optimally in a tPvP Scenerio.
That’s my biggest gripe with Warriors, we have so many kitten weapons and are the “weapon’s master” of classes – but all that variety means nothing when Warriors are pigeonholed into greatsword/dps builds.
To be honest, I don’t see what the problem was with the skill monitor from GW1.
Yes that is needed, but there are some other strange things regarding longbow. For example, why are the longbow traits in the boon-related trait line when their focus is conditions and aoe?
It’s a 5 point trait, but the +100 toughness you gain for the first 10% of your health is kind of pointless.
- Warrior profession is NOT viable at:
- Structured pvp play.
- Tournament pvp play.
- Dueling other players.
- WvWvW pvp roaming.
Warriors aren’t horrible at pvp – it’s just that there are far better options available that make most of the other classes more viable options.
Due to this the only point of yours which stands in my mind is #2 and even then you can make them work.
(edited by Varyag.3751)
I’d like to see javelins – Paragon “spears” – for both Guardian and Warrior.
I’m not sure why it was put on a warrior instead when they already have a rifle and axe for ranged.
Yeah, on my Warrior my axe’s ranged DPS is through the roof.
Haha, the kitten Wammos have returned! We also have Emos!
I randomly had a thought about something that could be fun for the Warrior; non-weapon based adrenaline skills linked to F2, F3 and F4. But sadly it’ll never happen.
How would i fix the warrior? In short, I wouldn’t.
I haven’t tried a heavy support build and I think the cooldowns on all banners are too steep.
So you wouldn’t fix the flawed nature of Warrior “heavy” support? Why not?

4 Superior Runes of the Nightmare gives 6% condition duration. Using 2x Superior Lyssa (10%), Lich (4%) and Nightmare (4%) would give you 18%.
(edited by Varyag.3751)
Knote.2904Actually 20% from runes, so technically 4.5 but I swear from testing I’ve counted a little over 5 seconds.
And also 6 sec immobilize on bolas with 16 sec cooldown lol and 5 sec immo on 25 sec, lol. =p
Ah, what runes were you using? 2x Superior Lyssa, Lich and Nightmare was about 16-18% from memory – can’t be bothered looking it up. I’ll have to try this, it might be even better on Engineer with net shot and bleeds/burn/poison.
(edited by Varyag.3751)
You’ve joined the dark side, Defektive.
garethh.3510And Varyag, its 3~s normally at most, so the +30% from the first tree and another possible 15-30~ from runes would be roughly 5s of fear.
+30% from the tree, maximum 16% from runes would equal roughly 4 1/2s (at point blank range in regards to the fear), with a minimum recharge of 64 seconds for fear and 25 seconds for immobilize. So you’re roughly correct.
But sure, it would be great for jumping people who don’t run any condition removal or stability, but really, 100Blades/Frenzy builds are also great at jumping people like that – plus the build will also kill them quicker.
(edited by Varyag.3751)
Literally 5-6 second immobilizes and fears.
What are you using to boost condition duration?
Fix the bugs with vengeance and let it auto rally you 100% of the time in PVE.
I could agree with this, NPC’s aren’t going to rage because you’ve just cheapshotted them… as NPC’s are innately cheap kittens.
Increase the Area of effect of banners or simply allow the buff to stay on anyone who was nearby it a little longer, say 30 secs? and reduce their cool down to 1 minute.
Go try the first banner trait in Tactics tree; you’ll notice that the normal banners will stay up until roughly 5 seconds before the skills are usable again. It’s more practical to just make the kitten thing permanent on trait. That’s just a quick fix, banners still remain kinda lackluster.
Switch the crit causes vulnerability for crit causes poison or allow us to use poisons in our utilities. Really I wonder why they gave those to thief when they are pretty much useless to them while for a warrior they would be heaven.
Thematically it doesn’t fit the Warrior whereas it greatly suits the underhanded ambush tactics that a Thief would use.
