It’s an improvement over the old system. You don’t lose functionality you just have to reuse the coin less often. This is a good change.

I’ve never played it but it can’t possible live up to the hype.

It’s adorable, and it’s fun, but yeah, it’s definitely overhyped. Think of a Guild Wars 2 version of Mario Bros where you can use your own character.

If I were left here all the time, it would have no hype at all. That’s probably why it’s implemented this way.

Remember the days where you’d buy a physical game, and it had a warning right on the box that if it was opened you couldn’t return it? Good times.

Remember the days where you’d buy a physical game, and it would be a full game, with parts not taken out like a jigsaw puzzle, or missing entirely until a later date and then outright cancelled? Good times.

Actually I remember buying full games that were short and sucked. Maybe you’re wearing some rose-coloered glasses, but there were plenty of short kittenty games that I paid full price for.

I agree with you. I think a roll back to before you owned HoT is reasoanble.

I’ve spent money on gem store items that would be wiped out, that’s atrocious business from Anet.

I don’t get you, I’m agreeing with you and you’re still arguing with me. Force of habit maybe?

Wow you guys are still playing this, that’s dedication.. I left years ago but just purchased HOT now i’m a bit worried what i’ve bought…

I’m still enjoying the game. I have a guild of well over 200 people. And there’s nothing else even close in MMO space that fits my play style.

There a precious few things I agree with Arden on , but yeah, he should be able to get a refund and a roll back in my opinion.

I saw you mention in another thread you were worried about the expansion. It’s harder content in some ways, but it’s also a lot of fun. And in three weeks or so, it’s looking to become less grindy, so you’re probably okay.

I’m playing this game for a total of 1 month and i’m kinda bored and without new things to do… Probably my worst deal was buying out this HoT expasion. So does anyone knows when new content will be released?

I’m sorry, how in hell do you not have new things to do, having played for only one month total? That literally isn’t possible. There is no way you’ve done every single thing in the game in only one month.

I’m guessing what he means is, he’s already done everything he’s interested in doing on the game. Not all players approach an MMO with the intention of doing literally everything in it.

But if he’s done with everything in the game he wants to do in one month, how is any new content going to help him.

Game is out 3.5 years. He finished everything he wants to do in one month. A quarterly update isn’t likely to help them guy no matter what is in it.

Achievement Points Cap

The achievement point cap was okay while the reward for getting 3 achievements was 10 achievement points. However, the reward today is 3 spirit shards and 10 achievement points. Unfortunately even though I’ve hit my cap, I still end up doing the dailies anyway because that’s how I get my spirit shards.

It feels wrong somehow.

Bog Otter's take on Legendary Suspension.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vayne.8563

Vayne.8563

“Suspended indefinitely” means we have no clue when or if we can get back to them. Because if MO said “we’ve stopped development for now” the next question from the masses is “for how long”.

Bog Otter is one of the Twitch streamers/YouTube video creaters they tap to do the pre and post show stream for various ANet events. He’s been covering the game from early beta and had worked as a Games Vlogger for what is now defunct game sites including hosting a weekly show on GW2 many years ago. This gives you a bit of background on the man.

Now since he’s considered “chummy” with ANet by those who never found anything positive to say about GW2, many simply dismiss him as a ANet “stooge”. He’s not but he is a glass half full kind of guy which annoys many.

The point he was making with the numbers that he admit he pulled out of the ether is ANet didn’t pick the new legendary development to stop out of a hat or a dart against a wall. They, ANet have the metrics to see if there were enough players taking advantage of the precursor collections in the last roughly six months to see if this was a good use of personal that could be better used on parts of the game that more players interact with. Period. Which is logically sound if ANet is trying to return the game to it’s former days of relatively routine content updates. Also show some long needed attention to WvW. Sorry I think PvP has gotten enough love for now, besides quarterly balancing to make try and make core professions relevant again in PvP.

But those enraged aren’t interested in discussing this or hearing someone with a bit more positive spin on it. Vocal members of the GW2 community want to be outraged, even if they never had any intention of getting a new legendary.

I see where he is coming from in his idea on how anet picked and chose that team. The problem is, its not sound data if they went by that idea.

Right now, I don’t own a single legendary, the first one I am actually going for was the fractal backpack, which I have no idea when I’ll get it, but I don’t own a weapon. Not because I don’t want to go through the process, but because none of them appeal to me in looks. So instead, I kept holding out, looking forward to the NEW legendaries coming out, which isn’t going to happen till everything else is sorted.

So again, I never took advantage of the precursor system because, there was really nothing I wanted yet (other than back piece), and I’m disappointed because now I have to wait to unknown time before I may even go for a legendary weapon.

But that’s the point again. What if you see all the new legendaries and again none of them appeal to you. They can’t keep churning out legendaries that people aren’t interested in, and there’s no guarantee that work will be rewarded. That’s the problem in a nutshell.

Stat-swapping for ascended already exists…..

I think what’s meant is stat swapping out of combat, not running to the forge to change stats and running back. Crafting a stat change isn’t really the same that at all.

But how often do you stat swap your legendary? I have never heard of people stat swapping on a regular basis. You don’t hear of people having one stat for pocket raptors and once out of combat swapping stats to fight smokescales.

Most people here I would assume have a set for open world pve and instanced pve. Legendary armour will just replace one of those or allow you to try something new and I doubt everyone here is a theory crafter when it comes to builds.

One argument at least would be for lowering your crit in level 41-50 fractals, where I’d rather not crit and give the bad guys boons. Would I want to transform my armor just for that moment, or make a whole new set for 10 fractals I’ll probably never do again,. or just switch stats on everything?

I’m sure I can come up with other examples, like taking a character to PvE and then directly to WvW, nad the back to PvE on the same day. You don’t think it’s inconvenient to change stats in the forge in that circumstance?

Edit: Changing the weapon by itself doesn’t do much, but swapping armor and weapon stats does. I do have 8 legendary weapons.

I get you will want to swap for different game modes like PvE and WvW but after 3 years people here don’t have an armour set for that?

As for fractals, who on earth actually stat changes based on the instability. I have never heard of anyone doing that. You have fury, spotter, frost spirit etc. You are just picking bad examples.

I don’t play enough WvW at this time to make it worth making a seperate armor set, using six inventory slots and carrying it around or leaving it my chest. And that’s assuming I only need one set, since I WvW on muliple characters…but not that much.

So the question becomes, how many sets of armor do I need to make. I might even go into WvW more often if I had the ability to swap stats. I’d simply go with a neutral rune, since I’m not a min-maxer.

I very often play for convenience.

No one honest stat swaps on a regular basis. Your examples are hypothetical.

The reality is that stat swapping is mostly useless since you can’t swap sigils and runes without losing them. You could make 1000 exotic weapons or 20 ascended for the price of one legendary. Most players, myself included, just have multiple sets if we go into multiple game modes.

I have four legendary weapons. I’ve only stat swapped them twice. Once, when I gave my legendary shield to my mesmer when chronomancer came out. Another when I converted my pistol from sinister to viper for my engie. What do I do with my ascended weapons when the meta changes (which happens, at most, once a year)? I mystic forge them, like everyone else.

Stat swapping on legendaries is not a convenient, given the cost. The only real reason people want legendaries is prestige. Beating raids is a prestige event. I don’t see a problem.

Of course no one stat swaps regularly…it’s not in the game except in legendary weapons and just swapping your weapon is pointless.

That doesn’t mean that people won’t swap stats though.

As for most people having multiple sets of armor to do stuff…citation please? I’m not sure most people know the difference between builds or EVER change them. But this conversation has nothing to do with most people. Because I don’t believe most people carry around multiple sets of armor either. Nor do I believe that most people are min-maxers.

But in this instance, I’m talking about what I would do. Unless you know me better than I do, I’m not there’s much room for conversation here.

Have you ever been in a big guild or are you one of those casuals that doesn’t have time to get ascended armour because you play 1 hour a day?

Everyone that I have played with and know have multiple armour sets and weapons. Ascended chest drop quite often in fotm and there is no shortage of LFG for those. If you are new to the game them sure one set is most you can manage but for someone who has been here for at least 2 years you should have had chances of getting multiple sets.

I’m in a guild of well over 200 people. I’m absolutely certain more than half of them don’t have a full suit of ascended armor. Maybe a lot less than half.

Exactly. Anet is doing what they think is best for the good of the game, not the good of what is likely a very small percentage of the player base. It’s a business decision. They have as much responsibility to the majority than the do to any minority, no matter what was printed on the box.

You can’t seriously be implying that the LS would somehow suffer dramatically were these 6 people to stay on Legendary Crafting duty…

The only way this could be true is if said people were Anet’s best and brightest, which seems implausible given that the crafting system is a short stint of lore based scavenger hunting, followed by massive gold sink that is simply meant to hoover up a perceived material surplus.

We would have gotten true quests and content, rather than a system where several of the series 1 precursors are actually cheaper to simply buy off the TP than to actually craft.

If the LS team is currently 8 people adding 6 more will almost double it. Of course that would make a huge difference.

You don’t think there are 70 people working on the LS do you?

HoT had a luke-warm reception. Even people who liked it, like me, found things to be really annoyed by. And that doesn’t happen easily to me, since I don’t play games to be annoyed.

So I tried some other MMOs. They annoyed me even more. lol

It doesn’t matter or not if Anet has the numbers. What matters are the numbers Anet gave us which is 16 new legendaries hidden behind another important number which was 50 dollars minimum U.S. currency for the expansion.

Besides Anet already knew long before HoT the numbers of people with legendaries and decided to do this anyway. Now that HoT hasn’t had the reception they thought now they are rushing another expac at the expense of promised HoT features.

Exactly. Anet is doing what they think is best for the good of the game, not the good of what is likely a very small percentage of the player base. It’s a business decision. They have as much responsibility to the majority than the do to any minority, no matter what was printed on the box.

I think half the issue is constantly losing devs. It seems to happen pretty often. Not sure how any studio can function on time and under budget with that constraint.

You lose some, you get some. It’s typical turnover and I haven’t seen any indication of ANet’s turnover being drastically higher than usual in the software industry. It slows development down, but good management can minimize the negative effects. Sometimes, you can even benefit from it by recruiting people with fresh ideas and more motivation, especially when it comes to a huge, long project like GW2. Working on a game for this many years can be tiring, even if everything goes well.

Anet has lost several key people in I think it’s the last six months. They’ve lost others as well. And it takes time to train new people and bring them up to speed. Even in something as simple as a retail store, the turnover can affect profitably and production. How much worse is it with 3 years of spaghetti code?

Agreed. Actually wanted to dislike the video, but apparently he hid behind a safe wall.

Actually I think he made a valid point. Anet knows how many players by percentage have even 1 legendary. They know how many have 2.

If they create 16 legendary journeys, what they’re doing is creating content that most people will never do. It’s not really like a dynamic event or even a dungeon or fractal. It’s a long term goal that many people either can’t reach or can’t be bothered going for.

Saying that he doesn’t have numbers is quite irrelevant because Anet does have those numbers and they made the decision.

That’s the nice thing about GW1 and GW2 though, you can take breaks, without fear of missing out on everything or being left in the dust when you come back, maybe a few hours to figure out what, if anything, has changed since you’ve been gone:)

Though you might want to at least log in to unlock living stories for future play.

Guild wars 1 is ghost town. Eventually people just stop caring and never look back.
I’ve never seen an MMO lose its community as fast as this one is.

I’ve seen plenty of MMOs die faster than GW2. Wildstar, ESO, Archeage…the list goes on.

How many legendary weapons you got now skipper?

10+1 legendary weapons. 13 complete ascended armor sets, 40+ ascended weapons.
A small guild without guild hall to invest in, legendary armor locked behind raids.
Nothing left to do, except to buy buckets.

Good stuff. Credit card? Unemployment levels of free time? Both?

And the second part… ?

Also, just so we are clear, you are cool with the rate of ~1 month+ per legendary and were okay waiting 16 or so months after HoT to get your legendary? But the announcement to postpone rolling out further legendaries is just too much for you?

I have 8 and I’m not sad to see that it’ll take longer for more to come out…of course I’m not thinking they’re suspended forever and if they are, that I’d like to know.

Poor understanding of player-base

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vayne.8563

Vayne.8563

I think ArenaNet needs a better understanding of their player-base due to the prevalence of certain type of content this game features.

For example, ArenaNet has seemingly designed this game to be played by aquatic creatures, seeing as about 1/4th of the content of this game is underwater, how I get new skills underwater, my character can breath underwater, etc.

However, my findings suggest that roughly 0% of Guild Wars 2 players are mermaids.

Please reduce the amount of underwater navigation I have to do. As a terrestrial being and not a fish, it is unnatural and disorienting. Every time I have to do something underwater, I rush as fast as possible (or log out) so that I can get back on land to continue to play my terrestrial character with my human, non-fish self.

Thank you.

They have reduced the amount of underwater content in the game. HoT areas, Drytop, and Silverwastes have 0 underwater areas, and even Southsun Cove, an island map, has 0 content beneath the waves surrounding it.

They also removed the underwater PvP map and the new WvW maps, though I don’t really WvW much, I don’t recall having water. Even the old maps the water was mostly removed.

Saying that he doesn’t have numbers is quite irrelevant because Anet does have those numbers and they made the decision.

I don’t have the numbers either and would not be considered a Legendary chaser, but your general description here could also be applied to Raids. So…why are we doing them when there are that many more people that have been waiting on new Fractals, or and even larger player base for PvP or an even larger player base for WvW.

That said I have crafted two Legendary weapons in the past and will craft more in the future. It was fun and entertaining and in my case profitable since they were built to fund other projects. One of them I will remake for myself in the future even if it never sees actions since it was one of the under water weapons.

One thing this game lacks is unique and desired loot. Let’s be honest part of the fun is the shiny at the end that people can place some value in in this virtual world. For many Precursors and Legendary weapons are that shinny item. Have had one drop and even it was just Venom its still a fond memory. Same when on voice and other guild mates have had drops of their own. Its one of those “oooohhhh” moments for everyone since it is rare and therefore precious.

Now I get it, if there is that much work that is needed to go into new precursor crafting, then it is what it is. At the same time the point is valid that once people do a journey its over and it content that they will not be able to re-do, so it has limited value over the life of the game.

But, then why not go back to the old method for the new Legendary weapons and make the new Precursors non-soul bound and add them to loot tables. Let them be drops for now like the originals are. I am working under an assumption that graphical design is on level with releasing new BLTC skins, loot table additions are a database entry, so the more complex part is the addition of the recipes and mystic forge coding.

This way people still get some of what they thought they were getting, new desired items are introduced for people to find, it gives crafters more to do, gives TP people things to trade, and it acts as material sink for items that are in mass supply. And if possible in the future, Precursor crafting can added down the road as resources are made available from other projects.

Good gaming!

edit: Had some kittens show up, bad kitty.

So you’ve made 2 of the 20 plus legendaries in the game right now and in the future you might make more. See that’s exactly the point.

At this point, you haven’t made 18 of the legendaries, but time was put into making each of them…that’s exactly the point.

Most of the legendaries are wasted on you. It’s different with a raid, or something, because everyone who’s doing raids is doing the raids in the game.

Like if they designed 20 dungeons people each person only did 2 that would be a huge waste of resources.

Not to mention raids are repeatable and so are dungeons but very few people make the same legendary twice.

I suppose there’s no grounds to make Anet accountable for their reversal via a class action lawsuit, but it doesn’t seem right that they can sell something and then decide for whatever reason that they are no longer going to deliver what people paid for.

MMO developers really can get away with things other, more traditional businesses can’t.

report it to the trade association of their country. Legally sueing them might be a problem, but preventing them from trading in your country and selling their products is relatively easy. Report them for false advertisement, photograph that 16 lagendaries advert for HoT and the first post of this topic.

It is also important to note that even though you might have purchased HoT a long time ago, if you go and show all of this to your bank and say “I’ve been deceived”, they CAN charge back if ArenaNet refuses to refund you. This will obviously ban you from playing GW2 ever again, but if you weren’t going to play it anyway, it’s an option.

It’s really not that easy. Because false advertising almost always requires you to prove intent to deceive. If situations change and something can’t get delivered, that isn’t considered false advertising in any country I know of.

Because the expansion was suppose to improve the current content, not cripple half of it because waiting 6 to 12 months to just fix it.

But there are people who enjoyed the expansion. There’s a post on reddit right now with a guy saying he enjoyed the expansion with over 100 upvotes. Yes the expansion has flaws but there are still people enjoying it.

No one really knows the percentage of people actually dissatisfied with it, or how dissatisfied they are.

I have my reactions to the expansion too, but I don’t think it made the game worse. I don’t think most raiders think it made the game worse either. I think a lot of people think that gliding made the game better.

Even something like Fractals, I bet there are more people doing Fractals now then there were before the changes.

It’s all very nice to say it made everything worse, but it really didn’t. And if most of the stuff if fixed in the April patch, I’m not sure six months is a huge wait for major change either.

But a thread that says the expansion is falling apart, particularly a few weeks before a big patch is coming out to answer some of the complaints is at least a bit premature.

premature?? It’s been 5 months. And what big patch is coming out to answer some of the complaints???

What will there be in that patch that will answer some of our complain?

- WvW patch? The beta of that will maybe be up after that patch, not with that patch. We are still months aways from that complaints being answered.

- LS3? Nope. That will be in july.

- The last 2 legendary weapons? The way they talked, they are not yet finished. My bet is that they will be in the game in July

- Fractal leaderboard? Suspended

- New Fractals. Nope, they said they are not ready.

- Reworking Fractal instability? They say, they are on an early stage so no.

- Reworking agony? No, early stage only.

So what will be this April Update? Profession balance, some change to HoT Maps, but so far we only know that they will add a HoT daily and make adventure more accessible. Maybe some change to fractal, but they will be minor, maybe a 4th daily and more ascended drop? Maybe we will have the legendary back item finally.

April Update will probably bring a lot of small improve, but most problem from HoT will still be there.

Because five months in game development is forever. lol

I’m not against the decision to stop working on them. It’s been clear for a long time that reality of the situation was Anet was working on way too many systems to cater to everyone and thus, really not producing anything for anyone. Moving more towards content focus is a good thing and someone was always going to be unhappy. This was just a game of musical chairs at this point and the legendaries got left without a chair (I, personally, wish it was raids, but can’t win them all)

But, to negate the impact of that decision by saying essentially that no one really wanted them….

Uhhh….

Anet built it’s entire current economy around the pursuit of them with ascended being the only other big ticket item and ascended still falls short in terms of raw materials required. I mean, literally, without their existence, the entire loot system is invalidated, because once you get full ascended, the mass quantity of utter garbage that is vomited into your inventory in PvE only has any value as being salvaged for raw materials to either sell to another players for their legendary or stockpile as your own.

And in the content draughts over the last like 1.5 years, working on Bifrost was really the only strong motivation I had at certain points to play the game.

So yeah, trivializing this decision and the impact it’s going to have on the game is just bullkitten in my opinion. If I am right, then the in game economy is going to take a huge dive, because a lot of materials are going to stop moving and pretty much everything that we get from doing events is going to lose all value to a player like me.

No one said no one really wanted them. What’s being said is that most people get between say 0-2 legendaries.

So if they have to make 16 legendary journeys and post people aren’t using 14 of those journey’s then it becomes a waste of resources particiularly in a game that is in the middle of a content drought.

Very poor video, he total misses the points why people are upset, and he is pulling numbers out of his kitten , he even says that he doesn’t have figures.

Will you pre-order the next expansion? [Poll]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Vayne.8563

Vayne.8563

Silly time to poll people after a major announcement when people are still angry. Some people will stay angry and some people won’t. So yeah….not really the time to post this sort of thing. I’d have waited at least a couple of weeks.

Timing is everything and to be honest I have no issue with OP’s timing. People are mad because of lack of Legendary’s (not me I’ll never invest the time for one) others because the same issues are still issues with game performances. (drops, glitching out doing stories, etc)

I (uh oh I’m about to get blistered) have no problem with letting Legendary’s take a back seat if they are going to fix the ongoing game issues.

Polls are a way for people to release their frustration (like your post about not getting a legendary or Ascended Armor can’t remember which one it was) and provides a little feedback to the developers.

Will they listen, only time will tell….. So I say go forward and make polls if it helps you cope!!!!! WooHoo lol

But the timing makes the poll useless if it gives a false positive.

Let’s say an election is 6 months out and someone takes a poll on who you would vote for, right after a specific scandal.

The poll will very likely not reflect the election results.

Some people will remain angry and some will cool down. So the poll’s results will be inaccurate. People mostly answer questions based on how they’re feeling when they answer a poll.

This poll has little value because if Anet said we have a new expansion for $1 and 12 maps, everyone would buy it.

Again I have no issue with the Poll its like the media, break the news while the subject is hot (no pun intented) so do all the polls you want.

I also realized I didn’t answer the question and my answer is Yes I will in all probability buy the expansion. I have been a fan since GW1 and I still have faith in ArenaNet.

I see the “moving on” from the previous lead to be a positive, he did reach for the stars but often promised more than possible.

I just want the issues resolved then move on to the new shiny things. Mega Servers have been an issue since day 1 and no resolution. They just got pushed back into the limelight due to the new Meta Events but we have always had to try to group to get on active maps and that should never be the case.

Bugged content has gone on since the beginning in various areas to numerous to list (Dungeons, fractals, open world, everywhere).

So again Poll, poll away and maybe something will get things moving in the right direction.

Remember Vayne as the old saying goes, you need to strike while the iron is HoT….. (Pun intended this time)….

You certainly do need to strike while the iron is hot, assuming you’re trying to brand something. A poll like this is trying to make a point, not gather actual data. Hey while you guys are really mad, will you buy the next expansion. It’s just another way to say, look Anet, see how many people are mad.

As if Anet hasn’t noticed. lol

What happened was the fan base wasn’t happy with the living story so we switched to an expansion model and the expansion didn’t do well. That’s what happened. If the expansion had done better, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

I think a fairer assessment is that some of the fanbase wasn’t happy with the temporary nature of the Living Story, so they asked for more permanent content like an expansion in addition to it.

I do not remember anyone, let alone a significant proportion of the player base, asking for ANet to abandon content updates for a year to bring out something as small as HoT.

I know that there have always been complaints, and I can sympathise with some of criticism of the player base, but I don’t think it’s fair to suggest that we in any way asked for the last year and a half (Which I’m also aware that you weren’t explicitly doing in that post, but it walked a line and I’ve seen such accusations thrown around.)

You have to be kidding? Not Season 1, but during Season 2 most of the expansion complaints started. People were saying we get an update we can do in two hours and then we have to wait. I’d rather have an expansion. This wasn’t said once or twice, This was said multiple times a day.

This has already been addressed repeatedly. Guess you just like being a parrot?

We like it when people tell the truth. We don’t like it when people lie or mischaracterize like you have.

Directing a response to an individual is not naming and shaming.

I didn’t lie. I misunderstood the post and when I read it, it looked exactly like calling out names for the purpose of shaming. As several players pointed out I was wrong, I went back and re-read the post and saw what they were saying. I made a simple mistake. What’s your excuse for accusing me of something you have no evidence of?

This is why I constantly tell people that calling out people for lying without knowing their intent, whether it another poster on the forum or Anet is simply wrong to do.

On topic: Colin isn’t coming back, and I believe Mike is up to the task of getting this game back on track.

I don’t get this post ???

So, if we would have a better game people would complain less … Really ???
If i would run faster i would be at the olympics or if i could fly i wouldn’t have to walk…
The reality is that i am not able to do it.

Isn’t the point that A-net isn’t able to deliver quality???

Nope it’s not really the point. The question is WHY they can’t deliver content. They in fact are spread too thin, trying to provide too many options for too many people. And if they’re going back to their roots and provide more for me, yeah I’ll be happy. lol

haha.. that made me smile. I wish it would work this way.

but i am not sure they are spread too thin.
The fan base has been very clear from the beginning what they want.
The mistake they made is always delivering everything else but what the comunity wants.
IMO they could have 3.000 more employees and would still do wrong.
In GW1 they had very few employees and such a huge success.

So i am not sure the problem is that they are to few people.

Nah the fan base hasn’t always been clear. Take the raid situation. I don’t think they belong in this game and I’ve never thought they belong. Take the six guys working on that and the time they cost other departments as well and you don’t need to stop work on legendaries.

I think half the issue is constantly losing devs. It seems to happen pretty often. Not sure how any studio can function on time and under budget with that constraint.

Not going against this at all. It just sucks, and im venting and apologize. Youve been around these boards a long time yourself and youve seen every type of post there is and I know none of this shocks you lol, but still, im just so annoyed. I planned, and still plan, on playing gw2 until the servers shut down or gw3 comes out… but at this point I may not make it to fall

I feel like venting too, you’re not alone. But what I’m venting about is different from what you’re venting about. The only way this game moves forward, in my opinion, if it returns to the type of product it offered early on. And even that might be too late, because so many have become disenfranchised.

But I’ve looked at other MMOs and none of them really do it for me, so…what can you do. Even Everquest Next, which was the next big hope, has been cancelled. It’s just not easy to make and run an MMO. And we, as fans, have pretty high expectations.

A restaurant advertises a certain dish. For various reasons, months later, they can’t do that dish anymore. Doesn’t matter the reasons. That’s not a scam. Unless you can prove when Anet announced it they had no intention of doing it. Then it would be a scam.

This is called kitten happens. People need to learn the difference.

No, no. This is not the same thing. If a restaurant advertised a certain dish, then I ordered and paid for said dish and then they only brought me half of it and told me I could have the rest in 6 months, maybe if they don’t change their minds by then.
That would be the same thing.

Or if you went into a restaurant and ordered chicken. That’s it. Just chicken and the condition was you had to pay for it up front and they would make it however they felt like and you had to eat it, even if it was some way you didn’t like.

Point being, Anet should have prepared the exac, advertised exactly what was in it and charged for it. Not make promises and/or wishy washy statements about whats to come and expect people to pay for it and be happy with whatever they get.

Okay then. A politician makes a promise. He says I’m going to get this law passes. At the time he makes the promise the senate is republican. Then he gets into office but at the same time, the congress is no longer republican and he can’t pass the law. It’s not fraud. It’s changing circumstance.

Do you have any evidence that when those legendaries were announced, Anet had no intention of delivering them?

Not the same either, unless it was your hard earned money that bought that politician and his promises.

You’re confusing a product bought and paid for but only partially delivered with a restaurant changing its menu (before you buy something) and a politician trying to get elected. Those are awful analogies.

I’m not confusing anything. Look, someone believes they can do something, it’s written in. An architect is bulding your house and he believes stuff can be done within budget and six months later he tells you it can’t. That’s not false advertising or a scam. There are a million examples from real life.

One would think that sometimes projects go overbudget and past deadlines.

Now SHOULD legendary weapons be finished. Absolutely. Do we know that legendary weapons are shelved instead of indefinitely delayed (a point I think Mike should address). No, we don’t.

The set a certain roadmap based on expectations of how long things would take, how well the game would do. I think Anet had to put a LOT more resources into fixing HOT than they expected to, so of course that changes their ability to deliver.

What real companies do is make decisions that suck sometimes, whether it’s layoffs or pay freezes, or cutting costs. And yeah it sucks.

But if you think this game is doing amazingly well right now, I’d have to disagree. I absolutely believe they expected to be able to do the legendaries faster and cheaper than they turned out.

My take on it is, a company years in the business advertised a product and they listed the price and the items that will be in that product. After purchase, they say they have taken all of the people off the crafting of one of the items and the crafting of it is suspended indefinitely.

Now, when are they going to restart the crafting of this item that has already been paid for?
1) before the next expansion? The people were pulled off of crafting the item to work on content leading up to the next expansion. It’s not likely at all they will be put back on any time before it. Not if it took them months to get one item done and the project has been sitting for X months so that all momentum has been lost,
2) right after the expansion? That’s when they are extremely busy fixing bugs and working on more items paid for with that expansion. It’s not likely at all that they will be put back on at that time. Those people will all have post expansion projects to do.
3) months after the expansion? Well, you mean like the time now but after that expansion? If they don’t have the manpower now to do open world content, it’s not likely they’ll have it then. Again, those people have all their new projects so it’s not likely.

So when? When realistically will they start recrafting this item that was bought and paid for but not yet delivered?

Not really part of the conversation. If’ it’s not doable right now, it’s not doable right now, PERIOD. Situations change in business all the time. That’s a fact. I’ve been involved in too many businesses. Maybe that’s why I expect stuff to change without warning, particularly with an MMO.

Does it look great for the company? Of course not. But if the company is struggling they do what they have to, no matter what they said. Do you think this company isn’t struggling at this time?

You’re seeing it from the side of the struggling business, (If they are struggling, they haven’t told us that. That’s only an inference).

I’m seeing it from the side of a customer who bought something from a business and now has been told that the business has stopped work on part of my purchase and they’ve not told me when it’s going to restart. As a customer I feel that it is a reasonable expectation of a business that isn’t providing an item bought and paid for that they can tell me when I can expect to see the item they’ve stopped working on, or they give some sort refund/discount for items bought but not provided

No I’m seeing is from a consumers point of view. Anet doesn’t have ONE single responsibility. They’re not JUST responsible for providing legendary weapons. They’re responsible for providing a playable game that retains players or there wont’ be a game and all the legendary weapons in the world won’t do me a bit of good.

So that said, if they have to put off legendaries to fix the game, yeah, I’m all for that. Because that is part of their responsibility.

I’m less concerned with their intentions and more concerned with their penchant for selling content they don’t later deliver.

It hasn’t really happened often in this game though. This current legendary system is probably the worst example of it.

I’m relatively sure the expansion underperformed. I believe Anet thought they would sell more copies. Keeping people busy making things isn’t going to work if more people don’t buy the expansion. So they look to see what will be further sell the expansion. It’s business, unfortunately.

I mean would I want legendary weapons in the game if making them would tank the game further? Probably not. What’s the point of legendary weapons if no one is playing to enjoy them.

The biggest problem Anet has right now, at this very moment, is the content drought. For most people legendary weapons aren’t going to solve that…in my opinion anyway.
