As long as the campaigning doesn’t become absurd in-game.
As someone who hates the political games we call campaigning, just from reading the forums, I can’t wait until this event is over, and it hasn’t even started officially.
I would personally like to see Robes of Power. Stylish lounge clothing for the relaxed WvW’er.
What about Robes of Powder? In a nice powder blue color. That’s stylin’!
Nah. Red velour smoking jackets:
Why would a higher-level zone imply a stat increase? I’m talking about difficulty increase, which a stat increase could make pointless.
because the last zone of orr already has level 84 mobs. If you attack something 5 levels above you or higher your hits become glancing, meaning that you could not fight that without a level increase.
So…they make the mobs fight more intelligently without making them higher than level 85…we’ve already seen them do that with Living Story mobs. There are multiple ways to make a zone more difficult. Again, you’re grasping at straws to justify complaining when there’s nothing to complain about.
You’re pulling conjectures from air.
Where in the article did it say anything about RNG? It said “combine.” That implies a recipe, yes, but it doesn’t say anything about it being similar to Mystic Clovers.
Why would a higher-level zone imply a stat increase? I’m talking about difficulty increase, which a stat increase could make pointless.
T6 material nodes could be quite common in zones focused on mobs higher than level 80. Expanding on the current drop patterns, mobs higher than 80 should have a higher drop rate for those, too.
All I’m saying is that we shouldn’t complain until we actually have information worth complaining about, which we don’t.
Perhaps we should reread the part of the article that mentions NEW MATERIALS multiple times. T6 mats may not even be needed to get from 400-500.
Besides, who is to say that we aren’t going to have easier access to T6 materials? I for one would love an 80-85 zone or even a 85-90 zone (NOT with a higher level cap, just that the enemies are that much more difficult) where the events are built around open-world group PvE play. Those zones might be an opportunity to introduce additional ways to farm T6 materials.
There are many ways ANet could work this, and complaining about perceived wrongs when the proposed game systems aren’t implemented yet is ridiculous.
I’d rather they take their sweet time on future personal story extensions, as Zhaitan was one of the most underwhelming and anticlimactic fights I’ve ever participated in.
Players who play WvW exclusively could just as easily request that ANet remove the Living Story achievements from PvE. It would be an equally absurd request.
Achievements are spread out among PvE, WvW, and PvP for a reason, and PvE gets the largest share of the achievements by far. PvE’ers who complain need to consider the point of view from the other two types of players.
I farmed Nicholas’s items for HOURS in presearing, and I loved that doing so let me work on several titles at once.
This would be an epic way to encourage people to explore. I wouldn’t be opposed to having one Nicholas-equivalent NPC for the starter zones (like presearing) and one for the more obscure mid/high level zones.
I love the idea of bringing over more of the GW weapons.
Canthan Broadsword
Shadow Blade
Celestial weapon set
Tormented weapons (we preserved them in our HoMs…)
Zodiac weapon set
Draconic Aegis
Enameled Shield
Echovald Shield
Fan of Purity (scepter) + Paper Fan (focus)
Celestial Compass
Chaos Axe
Runic Weapons
GW had so many classic skins. I bought Al’ir’aska for nostalgia’s sake.
A cooperative non-pvp mini-game would be a lot of fun (a la SAB).
bhagwad, your guy looks like a GW Paragon.
I really don’t see how this would be an exploit, as there are multiple divergent paths throughout the course, including other unmarked shortcuts up the cliffs if you have the right power-ups at the right time and take the time to look.
And, right at the finish line, there HAPPENS to be a spot where the rock is JUST low enough to power jump to? That hardly seems coincidental.

My favorite sight so far was someone running through WvW last night transformed into a jackalope and dragging a sun kite behind him.
I had to use an emote to tell the player how much I liked it, because we were on opposing sides, but it was worth getting ganked to give him kudos.
What an obnoxious thread.
You actually jump off the dock into an Acme™ Black Hole, are teleported to Mars, and are thereafter launched toward Labyrinthine Cliffs riding the volatile Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator. However, sensing a threat, the Zephyrites shoot down the Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator, but you eject and parachute safely to the Bazaar Docks waypoint.
crab toss…
…BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO…ahem. Sorry, spontaneous reaction.
Crab toss had better not be part of the dailies again for weeks on end. If one of the two candidates DIDN’T bring this game back, I’d vote for them.
The follow-up question is…why are you still buying RNG keys?
DOWN WITH RNG!
It’s unfortunate that American politicians have nothing better to do than mudsling, but I’m not sure our culture would have a clue how to handle a politician that actually had an original productive thought in his/her head.
However, as has been pointed out, Lion’s Arch is a city of pirates, and ANet likes to make cultural references, so it’s quite possible they’re making a satirical statement about mudslinging politicians and pirates.
Staff is generally not an ideal weapon choice for 1v1, IMO.
Its best options for 1v1 is letting you CC the other person long enough to run away. :P
The argument about traits being situational is really based on whether the player finds themselves in that situation often enough to justify the loss of an alternate trait. If yes, use it. If not, don’t. That would be the case with any trait setup (e.g. if you don’t jump off cliffs, don’t trait for reduced falling damage).
I keep hearing that evasive arcana is the ele’s best trait, but honestly i don’t see a lot of use in it when you’re trying to be on a safe distance with a staff.
Very true. For staff, evasive arcana is mediocre at best. It used to be more useful for staff Eles when you could use it as a blast finisher. It can still be useful for the other weapon sets, notably D/D.
0/30/0/20/20 is a very good trait setup, and can be adjusted to any weapon set.
Unfortunately, for Eles the divide between glass cannon and bunker is more like an abyss with a rope bridge. No matter what trait setup you choose, I suggest starting with a tankier armor set and gradually adding in more dps-oriented pieces until you find the ideal balance for your play style.
Good luck!
Auras would need to be buffed quite a bit (at least in duration/cooldown if not in their actual effects) before I would even consider building around them.
The point I’m trying to make is that elementalists are USELESS. There is asolutely no reason whatsoever to pick them unless fancy aoe that looks cool means anything to you.
I disagree entirely.
Not every definition of “effective” is based around damage numbers. If pure damage output and/or seeing 10k+ numbers is yours, then you are correct that the Ele is not the profession for you.
Frankly, I think you need to do more investigation, because even going by direct damage numbers, Eles are far from useless if played properly.

I run a build similar to the one Kirec linked (mine is 0/30/0/20/20), and it works beautifully in PvE, dungeons, and group situations in WvW. The staff’s skills really aren’t set up for 1v1 or sPvP in general, and this build is no different. I do not use Renewing Stamina, because I use a Superior Sigil of Energy and having both is somewhat redundant (IMO).
The other nice thing is that it is not limited to any one type of weapon. Blasting Staff and Renewing Stamina are interchangeable depending on what weapon you’re using and personal preference. With good gear, this trait setup can do well with D/D and S/D for solo roaming in WvW or single-target dungeon bosses.
The build is also helped by the versatility of glyphs and the strategy based on knowing the four possible effects for each one.
GoEP is definitely weak as-is, based on its usefulness before combat (condition application) preventing its usefulness as a stun-breaker during combat.
However, IMO, the auras are lackluster for various reasons, just slightly less so when traited.
Signet of Air, Armor of Earth, and Mist Form are all fine, as their active abilities synergize well with the circumstances that would lead to needing to use a stun break.
I think GoEP’s active ability needs to be swapped with either Cleansing Fire’s or Lightning Flash’s (with minor change in effect depending on attunement, same as other glyphs). That would give cantrips more variety by allowing condition application, and it would give GoEP an effective active ability.
If you look at the loot you’re getting from running in areas where you’re down-leveled, you’ll notice that not all of it is lvl 80. Salvage the low level armor pieces you loot for their respective material (light = cloth, medium = leather, heavy = ore).
Also, be sure to open the loot bags you get, rather than selling them, as they are not upscaled based on your character level, and they’ll contain mats that are appropriate level for the zone.
Admittedly, the low level cloths and leathers are difficult to farm effectively, but I hope that helps.
@OP
Your argument doesn’t offer any evidence whatsoever other than opinion. Just because ANet implemented celestial gear this way doesn’t automatically make it the “best” option for the game, nor is it “proof” of anything.
It makes it the option they THINK is best. And, honestly, I’d love to hear their reasoning on it, because it makes no sense whatsoever to me.
Adnul is the definition of tedious content, made all the worse by the boring mechanics of this mini-game, the bugs, and the fact that it has been “fixed” when it clearly has not. So many people have already listed the evidence that Adnul and the game mechanics themselves are still bugged, that I won’t bother.
C’MON! This is extremely frustrating, and things like this have been happening with every single patch. Instead of being excited for new content, the patch bugs were all I could think about during the video touting the 2-week schedule…
I don’t really understand the level 80 requirement on 400-tier recipes, either. The level 80 requirement is already on the crafted item, so why prevent lowbies from making the items?
Unfortunately, it’s been the case with at least some of the high-end recipes (the Corrupted recipes come to mind) since launch.
It’s frustrating, since a level 10 can be a maxed crafter.
so…many…possible…jokes…
lol @Rock I was amazed no one had made a joke yet, too.
Simply having the past achievement rewards on the same redeemables window as zenith weapons would suffice. Would love to have that flower on all of my sylvari characters…
YES PLEASE!
Similar concept to GW’kitten vendor. That’d be awesome.
Celestial items have always given more stat points total than an equivalent-tier 3-stat item. You can compare the ascended rings, amulets, and trinkets as examples.
The achivement reward chests reset with your dailies, so whatever time that normally happens for you is when you should get your next chest each day.
Other time zones exist outside the USA? BLASPHEMY!!!! lol
In all seriousness, it is indeed relative. We should start seeing screenshots in about 28.5 hours.
The retroactive rewards for achievement points are supposedly gated at one tier per day, and the first weapon unlock is tier 2 (IIRC), so the earliest we’ll start seeing people’s screenshots is tomorrow.
Dulfy has a gallery of some of the weapons to tide us over, though!
Actually it’s the day after tomorrow that we’ll start ‘getting’ the weapons. Tomorrow we get our 500 AP rewards. The first Zenith weapon skin is part of the 1000 AP reward.
I think you can actually get three chests between today and tomorrow, because it resets with the dailies:
first chest today before 5pm pacific. (100 pt tier)
second chest today after 5pm pacific. (500 pt tier)
third chest tomorrow after 5pm pacific. (1000 pt tier)
Rifle, pistol, and shields are not shown for the reward choices on the 1k or 2k chest is what I’m getting at. If they are but just not shown that’s awesome but doesn’t look that way.
If you’re looking at Dulfy’s guide, she acknowledges the following:
“A whole selection of Zenith weapon skins will be available, not just the five shown below. You can pick only one skin to unlock per achievement chest. "
I hope that puts your mind at ease!
(edited by Vick.6805)
You should get the second chest when dailies reset tonight (5pm pacific).
The NPC has a sporadic bug going on right now, where it’ll send you to a PvP map by mistake.
Despite that, I can’t wait to try the race!
I’m drooling over the staff and shield. I wish the lightning effect was visible when stowed. That’d make them perfect.
@ Adamantium
The weapon you get is your choice, so you can choose a weapon your engi can use right at tier 2.
ANet REALLY wants us to try the new Skyhammer map! lol
@OP
lol. Your first thread and your responses to posts were incredibly obnoxiously worded. This one at least takes a step in the right direction by requesting info rather than demanding it, since ANet isn’t obligated to tell us anything about their future plans for the game.
@Jemmi
I think the question is what purpose the “store” option serves, and why anyone wouldn’t want their reward NAO! :P
It may be as simple as people not having inventory space available when the chest pops up, if it actually gives you items. I haven’t loaded the game yet, so I couldn’t say for sure.
tbh… I dont like it to much… I dont feel like its alot to do here. Sure the mini game and i tried it. It put me in a race that was 3 minutes in. how am i supposed to win? Also… Finding 40 of the crystals would take forever and no point in doing it…
After 15 minutes i feel like im already done with the content. I would love some dungeon rewamps or something juicy. This seems to get boring after 10 minutes, i have like explored the are already
but anyways, i really like how it looks! They did a great job with the visuals
Rather than a lack of content, your post indicates that your problem is a lack of interest in the content. That’s fair enough, but the two arguments aren’t the same thing. For example, you said you’re done exploring the area after 15 minutes, but yet you can’t be bothered doing the crystal scavenger hunt…? That seems contradictory to me.
Please don’t interpret this as an attack. I see posts similar to yours quite often on these forums, and I’m simply pointing out that it might be worth reevaluating what you’re complaining about to make it more constructive. Then, you can look for things you DO enjoy, with or without ANet offering a dangling carrot for it.
While my selfish side wouldn’t mind the AP boost from this, it does seem absurd for such a large chunk of AP to be awarded for achievements in a different game.
I don’t mind the two week content release schedule, but I think the number of achievements that are added is overkill. Because I am an achievement completionist, they leave little time to do anything else.
I realize that’s my choice, but that’s what forms my opinion, after all.
It is frustrating. This trait has been bugged with many sources of regeneration for a long time.
The best example I can think of is: Undercurrent (underwater skill #4 in watet attunement) provides regeneration to nearby allies, but does not remove a condition with this trait.
There are other sources of regeneration that don’t proc this trait properly, but I can’t think of them off the top of my head. I gave up on this trait when (on top of the bugs not being fixed) the trait also got nerfed a month or two ago.
I hope it gets fixed for you and everyone else that uses it.
I agree, Hedix.
I wish the item would be a consumable that unlocked a tab in the hero’s story panel (right next to the personal story log) that allowed you to revisit the cutscenes from the UI, rather than needing to clog inventory slots.
I think chain lightning could be given a condition-applying component without making it OP, but I don’t think the direct damage output needs adjustment. It definitely has its uses and drawbacks, just like the other auto-attacks.
I agree that Lightning Surge could use a cast time reduction, even possibly to the point of making it instant-cast with a longer cooldown, so it becomes a viable counter.
I think Gust could be a cone AoE knock-back to make it more viable. Even as a piercing knockback, it’s too limited to really be useful on an AoE weapon like staff.
Windborne Speed is fine as-is, although it would be nice if the swiftness application prioritized nearby allies that didn’t already have swiftness (for WvW purposes).
Static Field is perfect as-is.
0 / 20 / 0 / 30 / 20 used to be a more viable build before Cleansing Water got nerfed. It was focused on a balance between group support and decent DPS, rather than one or the other.
Now that Cleansing Water isn’t worth it (IMO), I find that 0 / 30 / 0 / 20 / 20 works very well for any of the Ele weapon sets. It’s focused more on DPS, but you still have the added viability of group support as well, mostly through augmenting your attunement dancing. The traits also aren’t weapon-dependent, so you’re free to weapon swap to your heart’s content.
As far as the weapons, the choice really depends on what the player is looking for:
AoE DPS:
Staff
Dagger/Dagger
Scepter/Dagger
Dagger/Focus
Scepter/Focus
AoE Support and CC:
Staff
Scepter/Focus
Scepter/Dagger
Dagger/Focus
Dagger/Dagger
Single-target DPS:
Scepter/Dagger
Dagger/Dagger
Staff
Anything/Focus
As you can tell, I’m not very fond of the focus (used to be fun in WvW, but that’s been nerfed, too). I have friends who enjoy using it, so keep in mind that this is my own perception of the weapons.
Right now, there are some bugs on Scepter and Focus, so be aware that they have issues. For example, Scepter Water #2 doesn’t activate at all.
(edited by Vick.6805)
You’re entitled to your opinion, OP, but in this case, it doesn’t seem very well thought through. Players can opt out of reading spoilers in test server patch notes and guides and even turn in-game chat off if they want to, but it’s impossible to opt out of bugged content when you expect to be able to enjoy a patch.
I would prefer weeks of spoilers and honest anticipation of quality content leading to my own enjoyment of said content…
…over and above…
…anticipation of quality content and the resultant frustration when said content has anything from minor glitches to game breaking exploits on release.
Every time I see “Tamini,” I say it like a Jawa (“Utinni!”), and Tamini Panini just makes it worse.
I want one.
