Something similar is going on with the sound in general, because I’ve been noticing that all sound will randomly cut out for random periods of time (generally during combat).

This includes all sound: music, effects, vocals, etc. Hopefully it’ll all be part of the same fix.

Concerns about permanant invasions

Vick.6805

As long as the invasions don’t prevent a player from doing map completion, I don’t know why anyone would care that they’re there. The invasion will end up being similar to any other random event that you can either participate in or ignore.

Heck, if the loot remains as good as it is right now, it could be the first viable meta event ANet has added since launch, where people continue to farm it after the initial LS segment ends.

I wouldn’t mind it be changed to “set character to 20 if below 20” with the addition of; “if 20+, you get +5 levels”. I find +20 unconditional levels too excessive. +5 is okay.

Why do you feel it’s excessive?

I can’t speak for Khunvyel, but I think 20 levels is excessive because there are far too many ways to level to 80 without actually learning the character. So, we end up with players who have no clue how to play their level 80 effectively.

I do like Drakkon’s idea of just making it award a set amount of exp. I’d actually suggested the same thing in an older thread.

Does anyone gather all their own materials?

in Crafting

Vick.6805

I gather pretty much everything I see, but I don’t craft very often (not much reason to atm). That means when I do need to craft something, I generally have everything I need, with the exception of the exceptionally rare stuff like lodestones.

Unfortunately, selling materials has been far more lucrative for me than selling finished products. Occasionally finding spots to farm materials that are rare on the TP is a fun part of exploring.

I just make sure I have 250 of the material (and its processed equivalent, like planks) in my bank before I start selling extras.

Possible Compromise

Honestly, my game client has crashed so many times due to lag during the Scarlet fight that I really really hope they don’t implement this idea. DC’ing at the very end of the 45 minutes would completely rob the player of the entirety of their meaningful loot, and with an entire map’s population of players in one fight, DC’ing is all too common.

If farmers want to farm champs, they should gravitate toward the minion events, which count enemies killed (and it seems like champs are given more weight than normal mobs) rather than number of events completed.

Aetherblade and Molten Alliance events are the opposite, where you want to complete as many of the events as possible, so people who are going for the event completion can focus on those.

Obviously, once their respective bars are completed, everyone should focus on whatever’s left, as everyone benefits from more loot if you actually defeat Scarlet.

There is a legitimate path (you’re not exploiting anything) you can take that prevents having to fight anything other than Scarlet’s first 8 minions (when you’re saving Lord Faren) and Scarlet herself. Makes the dungeon take about 10 minutes.

It’s probably not the most fulfilling way to complete the dungeon, but if you’re just looking for the achievement, it is the most efficient.

Crafting is not intuitive at all. Because most of it is based around the discovery system, you could easily craft stacks of random pieces before you figure out what will actually help you level.

In addition to that, I’ve explained crafting to several people who didn’t understand what the discovery panel was. One of them thought it was another mystic forge, which is a relatively reasonable conclusion, considering there’s no explanation in-game as to how it works.

Watch Knights -> Twisted -> Steam Creatures

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: Vick.6805

Vick.6805

I’ve considered it. The twisted seem to be the missing link, the product of golemancy and necromancy. They seem to be built with the idea of making more of themselves out of dead allies. The step to building more out of dead creatures is close at hand.

Wasn’t there some asuran skill point that talked about the inevitable combination of necromancy and golemancy?

“Necromancy and golemancy have long been destined to collide. One deals with death, and the other, life. I’m on the verge of creating a new kind of golem that creates life from death.” – Oola

Please note that the Twisted are not Golems, but watchwork machinery.

The dividing line between watchwork machinery and golemancy seems to be very indistinct, though. One is based more around magic, while the other is pure mechanism, from what I understand. However, there’s no reason that the two types couldn’t learn from each other. Throw in Oola’s determination that necromancy should be combined with golemancy and you could have the discovery of the Twisted and eventually the Steam Creatures.

This has unfortunately been the case since ANet adjusted many of the cast times and aftercast times on Elementalist skills. The conjured weapon summons are incredibly easy to interrupt either due to an enemy attack or your own skill queue, and they seemingly always go on full cooldown.

In other words, ANet somehow thinks it’s OK to nerf rewards players had already earned legitimately if the player hadn’t opened the bags by the time the patch went live, meanwhile not documenting the change in the patch notes.

The issue is not the rewards going forward. The issue is the rewards that were already earned that ANet simply removed from the game.

I understand the need for the reward change, and most people saw it coming, but it should’ve taken effect on NEW bags, not ones people had already spent considerable time (and money, if the tickets were purchased) farming.

As nopoet said, the first tag team that came to mind was Warrior and Elementalist. The Warrior has an incredible array of combo finishers, and the Elementalist has an equally good selection of combo fields.

Ele Armor/Build Help

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Vick.6805

Vick.6805

I hate to (partially) disagree with the above two posts, but a full PVT Elementalist is giving up a lot of DPS for vitality and toughness, which do very little to help a class that is squishy no matter what. You can start off with full PVT as you’re perfecting your play style, but eventually you’ll probably want to mix in a piece of DPS gear at a time until you find a good balance.

Toughness is absolutely horrible for Eles in PvE, IMO. This is not because of the stat itself, but because toughness is one of the factors in the game’s aggro system. If you stack too much toughness on an Ele and you have your DPS rotations down, you’re going to pull aggro constantly. Eles generally don’t handle aggro well. For this reason, if you have to choose between toughness and vitality, I would suggest going with vitality.

One additional survivability note: a superior sigil of energy on your staff can be an amazing improvement, as it activates when you swap attunements (it does have an internal cooldown of 10s, I think), and gives you an extra dodge immediately.

As far as play style, the best thing you can do is perfect using the AoE CCs, as that is really where staff Ele shines. Work the CCs into your DPS rotations, even when you’re fighting single mobs. It’s good practice for group situations like dungeons and WvW, and you’ll find you’ll also do better against PvE mobs.

The biggest thing most staff eles are terrible at is using Eruption effectively as a combo finisher. It has a significant delay, so you’ll need to practice the timing to make it effective. You have a ton of combo fields that work very well with blast finishers, so this is important even if you’re also using Arcane Wave. Since you said you switch between DPS and healing/group support (which any Ele should do while attunement dancing), it’s worth practicing the timing with placing Eruption and then immediately swapping to water and getting a Geyser or Healing Rain on top of it for an AoE heal. Eruption + Geyser is probably the trickiest of all of the staff Ele’s self-combos, so if you can get a feel for that, the others will seem much easier.

As far as solo roaming in WvW, there really isn’t much you can do against other players as a staff Ele. Staff isn’t set up as a solo PvP weapon. It’s set up for group play. However, the same CCs that are extremely effective in group combat are very good for escaping other players when they try to gank you. You’re just not likely to DPS them down, although I have seen it done.

Hope all of that helps…/walloftext :P

I think that makes sense. It would save bank space, and it’d make those 800 gem price tags easier to justify if the skins were reproducible on an account basis.

My only additional request would be that it would also take effect retroactively for any player who had already purchased the skins.

Condition removal in WvW.

Vick.6805

Sure, so long as they also introduce a phys dmg immunity. You gain immunity from all damage after a heal for a few seconds. Damage simply over run heals, for example, you heal and and immediately get hit again…….. Whats the point in healing?

Unfortunately, ANet doesn’t want healing to be anywhere close to as effective as damage. They stated as much back when they nerfed the Ele healing builds that were actually effective. IIRC, they nerfed the regeneration boon itself, reduced the healing power effectiveness on Water skills, and later nerfed the Cleansing Water trait that actually gave Eles mass condition removal.

I’ve heard lots of people say it, and as obnoxious as it sounds, ANet continues to reinforce that the only thing that matters to them is DPS. Many of the Queen’s Gauntlet mechanics and time limits are prime examples.

As much as I like this game, it has very little of the varied strategy that made GW great.

I’ve noticed for faces, most requests are at the end of the spectrum… folks seem to want pretty or creature, not as much in between. Interesting. Out of curiosity, why not? The race was designed to live in the in between. Any thoughts? :}

In games, we can pursue extremes without significant repercussions, whereas IRL, people tend to be extremely judgmental, even about things that don’t affect them in the slightest. It is easier to make the more imaginative or what we perceive as the non-conformist choice in a game than it is IRL. By creating ethereal nymph-like beauty or the roughest plant features, people feel an illusion of vicarious uniqueness.

Ultimately, though, I think the ‘extreme’ features also have the most life in them, or the most character. With a bland face, you can sit at the creation screen for hours and never feel involved with the character no matter how many times you push/pull a slider, whereas with a strongly designed face, you can feel an immediate connection.

On a side note, then you have the anomaly with dyes whereby if you want gamer status, you “have” to use black or white, so everyone ends up looking the same. So people try to make their characters unique, only to drown it in monochrome…

As far as ideas for hair:

You get a birthday present on each characters birthday. So if you made them 6 weeks after launch, it will be 1 year later.

Wait, what!? Surely if their character is 6 weeks after launch then they will get their present 6 weeks after launch? Other than the fact it was announced on the same page as the next LS, there is nothing actually linking it with the event. In GW1 the presents were just linked to the individual characters birthday so I think it would be a safe bet on this being the same. It wouldn’t be much of a birthday present if it wasn’t actually on your characters birthday.

I’m pretty sure that’s what he meant by 1 year later: 1 year from the day you created your character.

Unless it’s totally different from GW, that’s how I expect it to work.

Unlimited salvage kit and future magic find

NONE of the infinite use tools were made to pay for themselves. They are items of convenience, and anyone who knows anything about business knows that convenience costs extra. People don’t save money when they go for something that’s convenient….

Your argument is valid to a point. However, there is also a point at which the convenience up-charge puts the company in question out of business. To make your examples more applicable:

If I bought a pack of cigarettes, I would not also pay 3 cents for each cigarette every time I pulled one out.

When I buy a bottle of soda, no matter what size, I am not also going to spend 3 cents every time I want to open the cap.

If I eat in a restaurant, I am not going to pay 3 cents every time I lift my fork.

Paying for 800 gems up front IS the cost of convenience, as most players will never use the infinite item enough times to break even just with that initial cost. This was a complaint that came up already with the infinite gathering tools. With the salvage kit, the additional 3c per use is an add-insult-to-injury situation.

Ultimately, it is up to each person to decide how much they will pay for convenience. However, putting 800 gems on the table up front and then having a barely-reduced cost per salvage is ridiculous, IMO.

Having Livia nicknamed Scarlet would actually make a lot of sense, given her hair and tendency toward that color (as seen in GW). Then, the question would be how/why she got involved with the Aetherblades, since they seem to be the enemy of choice.

Since she was a royal advisor/guard in the Sea of Sorrows book, she definitely has connections with the Krytan throne.

Perhaps we’ll find out that the Aetherblades have a legitimate reason for attacking. If, for example, Minister Caudecus placed an imposter Jennah on the throne, and the players have been defending the wrong queen. The “queen’s” mysterious announcement could be naming Caudecus as her heir, at which point chaos breaks out.

An attempted coup using an imposter Jennah would also help explain the existence of the watchwork knights, as they are extremely suspicious.

After mowing them down for weeks, will we actually team up with the Aetherblades? :o

While building siege, if the build “channel” is broken prematurely (player moves their character, build completes, etc.), the player’s character becomes totally unresponsive for several seconds.

I don’t know if it’s related, but I only started noticing this after I maxed Build Mastery. It seems to happen most frequently with rams, but I’ve also had it happen with other siege types. It does not seem to be lag-related, as I have no other evidence of lag when this happens, and my FPS is consistent throughout any of the Borderlands maps (Eternal is a different story).
