If I want to troll these ‘leet’ roamers (or if I’m killed on my support staff ele by ‘roaming’ gangs of thiefs too often) I’ll jump on my engi and troll to my heart’s content.
I particularly like leading 2 or 3 right across the map as they get increasing desperate to kill me, leading them away from people they could kill and wasting their time whilst our guys take an objective or wipe their zerg.
If they made rewards better in actual wvw (even equivalent to the eotm karma train) then a lot of the population problem would be solved- in fact you would have t1 servers complaining of massive queues (at which point make it free to transfer OUT of kitten anywhere else).
So: increase rewards, do some new stuff for wvw (it’s been two years) and the numbers would rise.
Maybe the lower tier servers are populated by the more intelligent who would rather do other stuff that isn’t so badly rewarded during their leisure time?
I do find some like-minded people. I remember 5 of us stacking up on a couple trebs and several superior ACs
See, here’s the rub for me, you are essentially trolling. When 5 people can derail/take away the fun of the other 150+, you should be discouraged from it. And, trolling in EotM has to be the lowest form of game play in GW2. Especially when it is SO brain dead easy to defend in EotM.
The worst part of trolling in EotM is that the whole layer implodes once defense begins to occur. Most of the map population jumps ship to get away from the trolls. Do to the poorly instituted grouping of worlds, it’s already difficult to find a balanced layer to run around on.
If you want a “fix” for EotM, they should remove siege and only have “special” EotM transform siege like the Scorpions. Expand on those, with more transforms like the Koda, and EotM would be much more fun and prosperous game mode.
How does removing siege from EotM lead to a fun and prosperous game mode?
If entire zergs of upleveled, semi afk players get wiped by 2 arrow carts thats not because of those 2 arrow carts, its because those players are semi afk. If you take away the siege, it becomes even more braindead running in a circle.I had great fun yesterday setting up a guild cata for each bridge leading up to the Statuary. They were all well hidden but in the open field. If the enemy commander opts to lead his zerg over a bridge that has 1% hp, he shouldnt be surprised, if he has to regroup at spawn.
I done it to the same zerg 3 times in a row on the same bridge. By then, you would have thought that the commander would stop in front of the bridge, send 3 guys over to destroy the cata and then move on. Nope, he went straight over it the 4th time.Another fun moment was when i already had 2 bridges destroyed, those leading from the statuary to the juncture and towards the observatory. A group of 5-8 gankers was in front of the gate near the altar, preying on our people coming out of it.
When the buff on the statuary ran out, they went over there to cap it. I tried to destroy the last bridge while they ran over it but wasnt fast enough. Fortunately, I had a treb set up to fire cows with supply drain on the statuary champ. With no supply left to repair any of the bridges, they had no way out but to portal back to spawn.Today i will try to master that approach by trebbing down each bridge to 1% health and wait until an entire zerg comes around to take the statuary. By firing cows at the champ I can drain all their supply and then 1-shot each bridge in front of them.
Also, some objectives spawn their reward chest quite close to a cliff, which is a great target for a cata shot to knock them off.
Congratulations, you have been awarded the ‘Captain Troll’ award.
If there are no people sitting around whilst two people fight, then feel free to attack as it’s clearly not a duel. in fact, attack any enemies you see, it’s a pvp zone. I’ll usually stop attacking if they ask me to, or not attack if it’s obviously a duel, but if there is a 30 man queue foe EB I’ll suggest they go to a BL or OS to avoid repeated interuptions.
I’d rather people didn’t waste space in the most heavily queued map to duel, plenty of space on borderlands maps or OS (which is made for it). Have some respect for your fellow players duellers.
It’s wvw related, so it’s not gonna happen. We’ve all given up hope of this ever being changed as it has been requested since just shortly after release and 2 years later nothing has been done about it- probably because they are worried that we will use our badges to buy armor/weapons and then salvage them for mats..which would lose gold but hey, can’t be too careful, right?
This is what happens when a part time intern is the only one working on wvw- two missed stat types from the delayed rewards.
Do the maths the other way around. How many players mainly focus on wvw or play it regularly? How much do they spend in the gem store? How many quit each month when nothing new comes out?
Companies that last over the longer term know that it’s not only product development costs that you need to factor in, it’s retention, as retained customers cost less to get than new ones and are frequently a lot more profitable. So investing in your existing customer base is a good idea.
Sadly Anet uses metrics to determine where to put it’s resources, and it’s metrics tell it that LS generates a spike in demand- not surprising as it’s something new and different and people like shiny new things. Then of course nothing much changes in wvw, so the metrics say it isn’t as popular, so less money is invested, making it more stale, and the cycle of decline and lack of dev time continues.
WvW needs a total revamp with guilds being able to see some sort of score to rate themselves against others (unique player kills as a guild- which prevents two guilds arranging to kill each other endlessly to bump their score, points for capping stuff based on number of players in the area around the objective so smaller guilds can score points too), , gvg’s with tables and leading scorers and gvg results counting towards server score. People need to feel that they can make a difference and that they can see the results of their efforts other than some PPT that most of the server doesn’t care about (despite benefiting from it) and that is broken anyway just by coverage.
I’d like to see mobile cannon replacing trebs that cannot hurt players but do good damage against structures (so you can’t dominate in sm for instance and just treb 4 towers from safe spots in sm) and cannot be fired from inside a structure (so you have to go out from under your numerous ac and fight the people to kill the cannon).
There are many other changes that could be made to wvw to make things more interesting, like having siege have a hard cap of two hours then they disappear (to prevent 20 AC or 18 trebs defending one keep), increasing the HP of gates or reducing the maximum amount of rams you can place at a gate so gates last longer than 30 seconds, enabling defenders to have a chance of reaching it, keeps can’t be contested by one or two players (minimum 5, or one ram).
The sad thing is wvw is just a neglected sideshow and nothing we type here will make a blind bit of difference.
All downed skills on any class are useless against a thief who is in stealth, and who can merrily waltz his way to you and finish you without any chance of you hitting him or preventing it.
Let’s even the playing field a bit and make downed thiefs unable to be stealthed by other players, and make none of their downed skills work, so players can waltz in and finish them. (q thiefs moaning about it, as they wouldn’t like their mechanic to work the same as others have it).
Eze is trolling.
The megaserver has destroyed recruiting.
When others are at work, the servers are opposite for normal human work times, get completely dominated by those who find it much harder during “prime time” (usually between 5-12pm any North American day).
50-10 isn’t fun.
Megaserver did not destroy recruiting, but made it harder and a different game. I am self-appointed semi official recruiter for Desolation. Slightly over 3 months ago were rank #11, known for great pve and having the best tpvp teams and spvp/tpvp players and having a glorious past as tier 1 server. Now Desolation has been EU rank #1 for several weeks in a row (yes, I am well aware that pretty much every top server in EU is slacking at the moment, that includes Desolation, we are not playing at full force, but taking a bit of a rest). We have gotten lots old Desolation players and guilds back and several new guilds and great players from various competing servers without any need to pay for transfer or bribe them. The language, the time zone doesn’t matter as we got players from all over the world and all time zones. As long as the person has some sense of humor and has the “I won’t give up” attitude, which is needed.
The key to recruitment is to build a community, which accepts all kinds of players and communicate about it. You also need discipline and great PuG/militia commanders and exceptional solo players and small scale roamers, who do the dirty stuff and scout things. Despite being pretty hard core myself, I really despise elitism, I will accept even level 2 characters to my party. The community should be fun and cater lots of needs. Some WvWvW players might still sometime want to do tpvp or do high level fractals or other pve content. The best things is that you can do them with your friends. People respect and support each other and forgive the small mistakes. This week we have had so much fun and laughter in the server wide TeamSpeak and I must also thank our opposing servers for that. Positive things lead to more positive things.
Arenanet’s decision to remove match related threads was a bad one. Arenanet should do their best to cater communities, and match up threads of the official forums are vital part of this.
Being outnumbered and not having any commander with tag open happens to any server. Trust me, I have been often in desperate situations. Having nothing, except maybe just 1 camp on our own border, having the outnumbered “buff” and enemy running 30+ zerg with golems. Then I want to show by my personal example that the Desolators can do their best when they are pushed into hard situations. One player can solo capture a tower or a keep, even when enemy runs in huge blobs. First flip a supply camp. Just kill the guards alone, start building the ram or catapult, fetch more supplies. Timing is the key when you want to be sneaky. Then call in couple of players to help you. 2-3 guys, it is all what is needed. I have done it countless of times before, during and after the seasons/leagues.
Never give up!
Good summary. But you missed the bit about hiding in towers and building 18 trebs in your home keep on EB, then hiding under them despite us having the outmanned buff:-)
Deso does have some good guilds to play against and I always look forward to our match ups, although our pug quality seems to have lowered recently. If people are looking for server to transfer to, Deso would be the one to go to.
Most of us are experiencing skill lag- try playing a casting class and you’ll see what it is. I’ve even switched toons during laggy periods and an confirm that warrior and guardian number 1 skills work just fine with no delay whilst ele staff 1 skill will take ages, and trying to cast anything with a longer cast time (like a heal on a caster class) becomes pointless, whilst all the time Guardians and Warriors are still waving away doing damage.
The theory is that it is something to do with China release but I don’t buy that, as surely the server farm for that would not be based in Europe.
I think it is them moving server capacity across to spvp for the forthcoming tourney to ensure that runs smoothly as they consider it their ‘esport’, and don’t care about the effect it may have on wvw, which is just lower than fixing a chip on the janitor’s windscreen on their list of priorities.
Depending on the toon I’m playing, condi builds are either hard to deal with or I just laugh at them.
On my staff ele, I’ll run away (harder to do against mesmers or thiefs, but possible to live long enough to reach safety usually).
On my necro, I’ll thank you for the boons and just bore you to death whilst having extra healing from each one you put on me when it’s healing time.
On my engi. I’ll just kite you most times- some mesmers are good enough to get me.
Guardian- really? you think you can kill one? Maybe on a very good mesmer, otherwise you’re wasting time and so am I – if it keeps you busy insyead of killing off zergers returning to the zerg, i’m winning.
Warrior- bye bye, he’s just out of your range.
Ranger- struggle against mesmer and thief on that, as it’s not built to counter you.
I have more issues with d/d eles constant regenning and thief’s ability to disappear without a viable counter than with condi builds, and I’m running group support builds mostly.
Conditions don’t need changing (apart from the stacking issue- 25 max- which is never going to be fixed). Just pick your fights if you like roaming, or accept that sometimes on your way back to the raid or zerg you will be picked off by someone built to do just that.
Reading between the lines:
No new maps are currently in development for wvw due to lack of any resources devoted to it.
If they do decide to have a new map, it will be at least 6-12 months away.
GvG 5,10,15,20 man maps will never happen despite being Anet’s best chance of making a decent esport out of it and re energising guilds.
Any sort of death penalty just doesn’t fit with this game. Who would want to play any sort of squishy support class or full zerk build when there is a massive death penalty or even a ‘die and your toon goes poof’ mode?
We’d see even more pvt warriors and guards in wvw and almost nothing of anything else: ‘who wants to play the support ele’ would be greeted with a huge silence.
People still use signet?
I was on my staff ele last night and was killed by a thief, warrior and mesmer- so obviously those classes need nerfing as I was unable to faceroll them./sarcasm
Actually the best part was when 25 viz chased me for a couple of minutes before they managed to kill me..huge win for me as it pulled them away from what we were actually doing:-)
Nothing wrong with condi builds, they are designed to do a job. Learn to counter, and learn which ones you are not built for and get away,
Please don’t go giving Anet the idea of any more pve in wvw- if you want that go play in EoTM, plenty of champ bags for you there.
We need less random wolves etc allowing people to ress from downed in wvw, not more pve content.
Wait, a duel dagger wielding boon spamming healing ele complaining about conditions? especially as it sounds like he was taking on 2 or 3 players at once?
Anet, quick, nerf conditions I can’t stand not being able to spam skills, endless boons, massive healing and take on 3-4 players as they used those nasty conditions on me!
If you want this fix to conditions, then nerf boons and your healing too so you can only have a boon every 30 seconds and a heal every 20..not sounding quite so good now?
I find the biggest gate is the laurels, always waiting on them.
And of course the stupiest gate of all- charged quartz crystal..crafting one a day..really Anet it sucks.
He needs to level a guardian to 69 for some protection!
I think the biggest laugh-out-loud moment was the congratulatory post on the front page showing a sylvari wielding two mistforged weapons. I mean, come on, how kittening funny is that? 1) You can’t even get two mistforged if or when this is ever fixed and 2) YOU CAN’T EVEN GET ANY RIGHT NOW
Seriously, ANet, stop making me laugh so hard.
Got to say I hadn’t noticed until you pointed it out…
In the UK sticking two fingers up is the equivalent of one in the US, perhaps this was what they were trying to express? (as we still don’t have them…).
Battles in EB last night in our match up were a thing of beauty- brilliant open field three way battles between groups bigger than ours. Shame about the lagfest, but it’s the sort of thing that makes wvw worthwhile.
crazy, are you on a casting class or warrior/guard? I find the lag is a lot worse on my ele or necro than it is on classes that have instant skills or just spam.
It’s also very variable, in that some battles run reasonably well, then suddenly it’s laggy as hell.
The other problem with wvw map completion is people leave it until last, then complain when they can’t get it done within a month.
Anet won’t change the system as it encourages gem sales, so the best plan is to do as much as you can as soon as you roll the toon and then check the maps several times a week and then pray that you can get the poi/vista.
Then when you realise these won’t work, take the medicine and transfer server for a week to complete it, then taste that bitter feeling all wvw players have with the amount of attention Anet lavish on wvw and the efforts they go to to fix problems (like wvw season rewards),
Well, seems as if the lag is back to it’s worst again. Endless skill lags, d/cs, etc.
Any chance that more server space can be used for wvw and all those particle effects turned down so there is some chance for casters to , well, cast?
Thank you for keeping us updated
I’m sad this could take a while but I’m also happy for those who got the wrong ticket amount, as this move seems to be a way of heading off a potential logistical nightmare between them and support. This appears to be a smart, efficient decision.
Good luck on sorting this out, devs! Excited to get a lovely mistforged weapon when it’s ready.
‘smart and efficient’ would have involved actually testing it, putting in the vendors so they were ready after the end of the season (not days afterwards) and not making such a ballsup in the first place.
People aren’t actually that bothered about what the reward is, what gets people riled is the total lack of attention wvw gets and this is just another example of skimping on resources/time/effort on wvw.
I’ll add to my infraction count now by adding that my previous comments about one part time intern working on wvw seems to be entirely accurate..even the wvw co ordinator now has wvw/spvp and something else in her job description, and we can all see where the efforts are made. (clue: not here).
I like the extra variety they give to my builds in various situations on various toons.
Do they make a difference 1v1- no. There is no such thing as a perfectly even match up between two players, one will always be better than the other or just get lucky with a proc or slight lag from a skill, or a missed roll, or badly aimed whatever.
Food boosts can make a difference in surviving in larger fights.
They are a part of the game, and nothing any player says will make the slightest difference, they are here to stay.
If you are getting focus fired then use it to benefit the rest of the group. It’s great fun pulling 5 or more of their players well out of position allowing the rest of your group to roflstomp their zerg.
They won’t roll back the game. Presumably they have a record of the state of the meta achievement as at the end of the season for every account, it’s just a question of working out what lack of testing failed to pick up on and fixing it. So a couple of months and we’ll get sorted……
Bad planning and a lack of resources doesn’t make it a good call.
Oops, slipped their mind as it was wvw related and no one bothered to put in a note to remind anyone that it needed to be done. Luckily the players reminded them and 4 days later they pushed through emergency changes to the pricing.
It’s not that wvw feels like the poor relation to everything else..oh wait, yes it does.
This should all have been tested and the reward npc’s in place before the end of the season. Instead the lack of care and attention to wvw shines through once again, and yet again we’re handed the short end of the stick.
I’d like to thank EXG for the fun fights throughout, always a pleasure. Sooo hard to get you guys to chase my engi around the map. If you don’t see him next time, it’s because I’m main on staff ele now and some guardian thrown in.
I’d like to thank BULL for being so keen on chasing a solo player, right around the corner into our little zerg:-)
And last but not least, many thanks to our Commanders who have to put up with the non-ts using pugs and do such a fine job of it.
One day we will be anything but green and I might get a chance at map completion without paying to transfer server and then transfer back weeks later.
OH wait, that might impact ANet’s revenue stream, so i guess we’re stuck at green forever.
What they first need to address is the reward system to encourage more players back into wvw. At the moment it is way more rewarding to do almost anything other than wvw (unless you are in an organised guild fighting other guilds when piles of loot result), and especially better off doing EoTM.
Firstly, active defence of a structure needs it’s own reward (so it doesn’t reward players who afk in keep etc). Scouts who sit in a tower for ages should get some sort of reward, not sure how you do that to prevent abuse.
The rewards for killing players, capping points (why do bloodlust points reward nothing? If they gave something there would be real competition for them), capping towers, etc all need a revamp.
Rewards should be based on the number of players involved in the cap vs number defending, so taking an undefended tower with 80 people rewards are low whilst capping a well defended garrison after an epic 60v60v60 three way battle should grant much bigger rewards.
Secondly, they need to consider some server merges to even up the wvw populations a bit later in the year (after new reward system settles down). The problem in EU is that there are a limited number of same language servers that can be merged.

Could Anet actually fix the colours given to servers on a weekly basis so we get a different colour from green every single week? The current system puts us green for so long I’ve forgotten what being the other colours even feels like.
Surely it can’t be that hard to ensure that every server gets at least one week of each colour in a two month rotation?
It’s kinda hard to get map completion done when you are only ever green- and no, transferring servers is not an option and shouldn’t have to happen.
Basically it’s content for those that like standing around doing nothing for an hour or so for 8 minutes of action- so basically those with plenty of time on their hands and those who consider this a good use of their limited leisure time.
I used to organise and command PW map fights and spend hours planning teams, discussing tactics and having an entire squad from the enemy trying to kill me, etc. We used to start forming up an hour before the battle, so I can understand the mentality.
At the end of the day you are not forced to do this content (it’s not needed for map completion or anything crucial), so don’t worry about it.
Just wait for the first burst thief you run into that does a 22k backstab and basically two shots your entire HP.
Upscaling doesn’t really function that well- you can get a few peaks on damage and condition damage as well as armor, etc but they usually only last a couple of levels.
Went in with a lvl 60 toon. Instant downed by boss mechanics- typical lazy programming. Some you just can’t see due to all the effects firing off. Oh look a circle (dodge). Grab your heavy armor toon…
No exp from mobs, and no drops- so no point in killing them.
45 minutes to kill 6 bosses for a pile of kitten at the end. Will people organise and bother to trigger event and form 6 parties and hope they can co ordinate on a mega server where people don’t even speak the same language? Not very likely.
Get in fast if you want the achievements, people will do it once and leave.
Used to be a good place for some fun, drops and decent place to level toons. Now it’s a quick ach point grab and off to do something a bit more fun.
New legendary weapon will shortly be announced: The Korimor. Made by combining one of every legendary, you will be able to switch what type of weapon it is whenever you are out of combat, and it grants a whopping 5% better stats than a normal legendary. Think of it as a great space saver. Account bound as soon as made.
Produces massive visible golden glow around the player wielding it and marks them on the map for allies and enemies alike to be able to locate them:-)
Well the new ele is ticking along, up to level 54 now, all in EoTM/wvw. Levelling feels so aimless when you only get a new trait point every 6 levels. Will I unlock every trait? Not a hope- I might unlock a few, but mainly I will work out EXACTLY what build I will be running in wvw and just unlock them. Want build diversity? Try another game, this one now actively discourages you from even trying, or even rolling alts.
Completing a zone as a staff ele just isn’t that appealing to me- but then the devs play burst thief or zerk warrior/guard, so they won’t have even considered other classes.
It’s a terrible change which seems more like an April fool’s joke that went wrong ‘hey, let’s kitten up the trait system’ and someone took it as a real suggestion and then they went and implemented it…
If you want to get your ele to 80 ‘for full effect’ then just level to around 30 and then craft your way to 80. It’s not hard to rush level a toon- but it’s not much fun either.
I’m levelling an ele at the moment and spend maybe an hour a day on it running around in EoTM and wvw, and it’s levelling up nicely without feeling like a complete drag.
As we’re slacking completely in wvw this week (we’ve already won the league) I have even taken it into main wvw maps just to try and learn better positioning for the class.
Speed levelling and not having a clue what you are doing when you hit 80 on a toon isn’t for me.
Great job and glad you achieved what you set out to do!
After spending two days downloading Wildstar (my internet isn’t fast), I was looking forward to seeing what all the fuss was about.
After an hour I uninstalled. Maybe I should have given it more time, but it just felt too juvenile to me. Combat is ok, but once you learn to dodge it just becomes a dodge fest with shots being telegraphed and easily avoided, so just a reaction game.
The graphics and the cartoon characters aren’t my style either. I didn’t get to the open world pvp enabled areas, but if that’s like Aion then they will have a lot of problems with that with higher levels griefing.
I’m sure it will suit a certain player type and maybe the higher level pvp might have been fun as i like a challenge (and it has a healing class) but the early stages put me off.
Go EoTM and join the upscaled lvling karma train there. This is little to be gained from going on the main wvw maps as an upscaled- less loot, more deaths.
Here’s what I see so many rangers doing- firing dumbly into the front of the zerg train, then failing to move left or right and being rolled by the zerg.
Rangers can be very effective in disrupting zerg back lines- learn to position and you can cause some serious problems to the eles and necros trying to support their front liners.
Personally I mainly use my engi for this, where I just rocket boot right through the middle of their zerg and then play merry hell with the back liners, but lb/sword&horn on the ranger works well for this.
I’m not a fan of full melee ranger builds but Prysin makes good builds and is excellent at making the melee build work…I think I met him or one of his buddies the other day in our match up!
Ranger can be useful in zerg wvw but it just takes a lot more skill and positioning than most other classes to be good at it.
Train is showing them exactly what most of gw2 is all about- run around in a big blob mindlessly spamming 1, then collect loot. Pretty much covers all of pve and most of wvw.
Bear in mind also it is only one of the starting areas so most new toons would be unaffected anyway as they would start in a different area.
If I was a new player I’d be happy to see a big pile of people rush past and think ‘wow, people do things together in this game’, and then find out what it is all about.
All rangers should have to have names that consist entirely of capitals and spaces, like P U N Y or B E A R B O W, as they are obviously way too OP with their mighty pets.
Maybe they should make it so pets explode on death- so there would be a point to their usual suicide runs into the middle of the aoe pit of the zerg clash:-)
Nice even match up there too…
I’m sad this could take a while but I’m also happy for those who got the wrong ticket amount, as this move seems to be a way of heading off a potential logistical nightmare between them and support. This appears to be a smart, efficient decision.
