“navigate treacherous heights”
If it’s anything like a JP, or has too many ‘fear them all off the edge’ mechanics, people won’t play on it after the initial rush.
Rewarding defending sounds good in theory, but will wait to see if that actually works in practice- if they mean the reward is 1% extra magic find for your server whilst you hold that tower, there is no incentive for you to hold it in wvw- you’re stuck in the tower getting nothing?
Let’s hope that along with ‘defence becoming more important’ that you actually get rewarded for defending, otherwise after a while no one will bother.
GVG! YAY! I’d better go and join a proper guild now…where did i put my headphones and built in mic?
4pm on a Saturday afternoon for UK players, probably not the best time to start a sale for the EU servers, maybe next time a little less USA centric thinking please?
Maybe post this in the pvp section if you want a dev to notice…
This was what we listened to before GvG’s in gw1:
and we all knew it backwards. When the G vG started we all typed BOOSCH BOOSCH STRONGER THAN A MOOSE.
Happy days.
My dailies reset at 12 midnight UK time…
Killing mobs is the slowest way to lvl in this game. Killing a couple levels below you is way faster than a couple above and will yield much better exp.
EoTM for lazy karma train levelling, or do the pve maps and complete each map and move on, events give way more exp than killing mobs ever will.
I’m loving all the QQ from ez mode d/d eles who might actually now have to play a bit smarter to get the kills, or have more even battles.
Personally I don’t play d/d cheese ele in wvw as I play support staff ele, where the number of stacks of might I have aren’t so important (and generally a couple of guards or warriors nearby and a blast= 25 stacks anyway, I’m mostly celestial with a few changes and different traits (that work for me). one of my jobs in between water fields is finishing the downed and generally annoying the front lines by air and earth skills.
If you really like roaming, go to pvp and play against builds that are expecting you rather than getting your thrills taking on zerg built players wondering back to their zerg that are easy kills.
So you dont play cheesy D/D ele because its op, but you play cheesy Celestial ele. Gz for fail hahaha
My build isn’t cheesy, it’s lazy:-)
The person who came up with these achievement numbers was clearly still intoxicated after the weekend.
And the QA failed to see this flaw
The QA had already been moved to LS…
If your guild doesn’t know where you are on the map, try using, oh I don’t know, maybe something like, hmm, maybe, possibly TS????
We have a colour system that works quite well along with TS and guild raids function very well this way – most guilds (unless it’s a gvg) don’t mind the odd follower as long as they are not a liability – decent necro or staff ele generally welcomed, sometimes a good ranger (position is everything).
Dev attracting siege- takes 10,000 supply to build, when completed makes a dev look in wvw’s direction for a second to remind them it even exists.
My expectation is zero, based on previous experience. Maybe they will surprise us.

This topic again…if you start thinking of doing world completion, make sure you start on wvw right away, as has been said many many times before, it can take weeks to get everything.
anything at this point would be better than the 500k to 80k victories for the blob servers. This isn’t even remotely what WvW should be about. This is why we lose WvW players 24/7. I seriously don’t mind losing once in a while but when it has been like this for 2 solid months why even bother.
You lose wvw players as it is exactly the same as it was when it came out, nothing has really changed, same meta, terrible rewards (killing one mob in Silverwastes gets you more rewards than defending a tower for 2 hours in wvw). After a while it just becomes totally stale, along with the complete lack of any dev input at all.
Maybe the OP should change their suggestion to ‘employ a wvw dev’, as that might be a good starting point.
I’m sorry that we are inconveniencing you into maybe actually participating in the game mode. Perhaps we should give you a button to press that gives you a sign over your head that says ‘doing daily’ that makes you able to one shot people to complete that daily, instantly cap a point and score a defend if you touch another player anywhere on the map?
As for running to the zerg in eotm, if that 2 -3 minutes getting across the map is just too much for you, just log back out to Silverwastes for your tag an event/chest run and try again in ten minutes when the zerg might be closer…
wvw doesn’t need megaserver, it just needs some work and dev time spent on it, and better rewards to attract people in.
T1 EU server, 10.30pm Sunday night: 30 man q for EB, no other q’s , outnumbered on one other map, no visible comm on 3 of the four maps. Three tags in home BL but they were all gvgs at the bottom of the map.
They could megaserver wvw and close eotm if they did something – made gvg a reality with good quality maps, a ladder, a competition, etc.
Tends to be the fractals crowd that moan about huge piles of ascended stuff ‘taking up bank space’, as no one else has the problem.
After all, levelling up a wvw level gets you two greens (worth 3 silver).
I’d love for all the ascended jewelry to be tradeable too, but for whatever reason Anet decided it isn’t and they don’t look like they will see sense on that any time soon.
All the encounters seem to be designed around warriors or guards and they assume you have a constant heal tick or condi cleanse/heal/massive 20 second heal with massive dps and high armor, which is why other classes find some of these encounters hard.
This is one result of having no trinity- if they designed encounters around the squishies that have to retrait just to have any chance of getting through then warriors would all moan that the content is way too easy.
Simple solution is play guard or warrior and just blast through it.
I think necro posting is a wonderful way to remind the team of forgotten promises to its consumers.
It’s a very easy way and non aggressive way to re bring up the topic since they in turn can not deny it. Also it highlights how bad the ignoring of WvW is.
I’m truly sorry because i can relate to dealing with negativity from your consumers….but we are the consumers. We are always right.
It is also a great way to stop the team from ever saying anything, since people take everything as a promise.
This might even be true, if it wasn’t for the fact that before the necro’ing, they said nothing, after it, they threaten to ban people from the forums and still say nothing. (Apart from the PR speak message saying ‘soon’ ’we’re working on stuff but can’t say what’ that is the same as we’ve heard for two years)
The only thing that changed was they threw the dummy out the pram for being reminded of how many broken promises and issues they promised to deal with still haven’t been.
Here’s an easy change they could implement in a few minutes: have someone in Anet actually working on wvw and communicating with us.
Expecting an answer on this topic is about as likely as winning the lottery. First they would have to change someone’s name and label to have ‘wvw’ in it and then they would have to post here (even if just the standard ‘we are aware/working on it’ never to be seen or heard ever again).
I love wvw. Its my favorite game mode (okay, maybe tied with GvG). With that said, me thinks if these game modes are to improve, we need to back off the Anet teams dedicated to these areas and let them get to work. They are professionals. I trust we are in good hands. Don’t let us down guys – we are counting on you
This made me laugh. I’ll leave it to others to explain why, but the clue is the mention of ‘Anet teams’.
It will be interesting to see where this stands in 2-3 months time when the initial rush has finished and most have moved on to the latest LS bits. Probably end up like Teq with one group of people running it a couple times a week for fun, and the rest of the time 10-20 people standing around being ineffective or chasing the blue tag.
Get it done while you can if you are interested (personally not bothering).
It’s not quite so staggering when you read the detail of the ‘changes’. A huge number of them are fixing things that shouldn’t have broken in the first place. Season 2 doesn’t really count as a ‘change’.
Quite easy to make the list seem like something important was done – how about breaking it down into ‘actual changes’ ‘bug fixes’ etc which would give a better impression of what has been done than a list of every minor tweak (most of which add up to practically nothing).
I still have no spare laurels for all the armor I need for my toons, nevermind the ascended materials, etc for any jewelry. Being able to craft would be a good start, but what they really need to do is make the entire ascended stuff tradeable before first equipping. Maybe then I could finish off the jewellery, armor, etc and infusions that are missing.
“Necro threads” is a pathetic concern of small-minded people with misguided priorities. Fairly indicative of the company’s direction, if this subject warrants a special rule and notification, particularly in context of this sub-forum for the past months.
To be fair when almost a full page of threads is more or less necroed with completely useless new posts (which main objective is simply to stir up trouble) it does become a concern.
It’s not to stir up trouble, it’s to highlight that nothing has changed and even issues they said they were working on haven’t happened. Your replies remind me of the three monkeys analogy, and i wonder if you actually work for Anet or a related company in some capacity as you seem to be their biggest apologist. That’s not a personal attack, just a comment on where your viewpoint seems to come from.
If you’re a decent player and ckittene ts, then SFR is for you. The queues aren’t that bad (or even at all most of the time). If you can play well and fit GWEN then join one of the guilds and get in the closed raids which as always fun.
Or join Deso if you like facing organised pugs and outnumbering them 2 or 3 to one in prime time and yet still they will fight you without laying down ac.
As I have said frequently before now (collecting infractions along the way), there does not actually appear to be a wvw dev team at all any more. Currently there is no evidence that they are actually working on anything to do with wvw- even a simple change like commander badge colour hasn’t happened in two years.
It’s unsurprising given the lack of changes, information, etc that many feel highlighting old threads rather than just creating a ‘new’ topics raising the same old issues is the way to go.
Maybe there is someone working on wvw, but from a player’s point of view this isn’t apparent from the game nor from the total lack of dev comment about anything relating to wvw. And then we’re threatened about necro’ing old threads when this happens on spvp forums and others regularly, which just feels like being treated with contempt.
All the PR speak in the world isn’t going to change this perception. Deeds not words is what people want, before the mode that is apparently ‘a core mode of gw2’ loses even more people and becomes a noobfest of people playing bad builds EoTM style.
This would fall under the category of ‘believe it when we see it’, as we have yet to even see changes to the likes of the yakslapper title after two years and these were being ‘worked on’ then.
Sorry to say Mark’s comment tells us nothing, promises nothing and gives away nothing as to what if anything might be getting done to wvw, and as nothing is what has happened so far the record isn’t looking too good that anything will happen this year either.
I like to engage solo roamers (or even 2-5 players) and then drag them around the map as they try to kill my support built staff ele. Or drag them into guards.
Another favourite is to set a stealth trap near our keep to catch the annoying mechanic that allows a solo perma stealth thief to tag a keep:-)
Join Desolation, they need help:-)
I’d rather we didn’t have housing, as I can’t see why I’d want to spend time playing in a doll’s house. But I’m sure there is a game out there for you guys and girls who do want housing.
It’s a bit like jumping puzzles- if you like platform games there are already plenty out there, feel free to go play them.
Since i dont like queues and i want to command often, im not looking at gold tier servers. I prefer bronze ones, maybe even silver tier.
Do even gold tier servers have queues anymore?
Most don’t but it’s getting ridiculous on SFR. 4 maps queued during prime time. EB queues are looking like what is was like during leagues. Few days ago SFR got a high of ~130 in queue for EB and double digit queues for the bl’s.
That was on reset night. Last night the q for EB was 40 or so and no q’s on bl’s. We do seem to have gained a lot of upscaled and new faces though- even though EoTM is way faster and better for upscaleds to level.
I’m short on Dragonite as I have made multiple sets of gear, can someone send me some?
Oh wait, they made it account bound, and have yet to see the error of their ways!
Maybe they will change retaliation so that it only hits once per second, so engies and rangers no longer kill themselves in seconds using aoe skills?
Got to admit, had to open it just to remember what a dev’s comment on wvw looked like.
I find all this amusing. What happens is this. Players form more and more elitist groups to avoid having to teach new players/less experienced the ropes so that they can complete in the least time possible. This carries on for a while, then the most experienced get bored of this aspect of the game and move on, leaving a smaller and smaller pool of ‘elite’ players, who become more and more vocal about the lack of experienced players.
Guess what? They are complaining about something they themselves helped create. If you are forming pug groups, be willing to take longer and have to train up new people- occassionally you will find a real gem who in a few runs becomes better than you could ever hope to be.
If you want elite runs then join a dungeon running guild as one of your guilds or form one so you can play with the people that suit your style. Don’t expect to be able to form the perfect group from a bunch of pugs.
Using AP as a measure of whether someone will be any good is a bit like using height to measure whether they can wash my car the best. They could play bearbow for their 18k AP and then be joining your group on a zerk built warrior that they have played for 3 days.
AP doesn’t measure skill, and certainly not skill at a certain build/profession in a dungeon instance. The only thing high AP tells you about a players is that they chase AP- which reminds me of all the free kills we got when AP farmers came to WvW with their legendaries and shiny gears. Did having a high AP make them better at playing in wvw? Nope.

I’m mostly in favour of tagless guild runs. My only small gripe would be if a 20 man guild raid asks for scouts when they could easily cover this themselves, but feel they are too important to do so.
Some guilds don’t mind certain followers whom they know know what they are doing and won’t be a rallybot (like a well played ele, for instance), but upscaled people following along can be quite annoying when facing another organised guild group.
I have more of an issue with upscaled taking spaces on the main maps when they can level faster with better rewards in EoTM!
Personally I don’t use TS but it’s not hard to follow a decent group and contribute to fields, etc without having instructions etc if you pay attention and know what you are doing. Sadly too many ‘pugs’ are used to mindless zerg/EoTM/pve and don’t know how to play their class properly, or use builds that are almost totally useless in wvw.
Wvw is better overall with a mix. Small groups can be amazingly effective in capping stuff whilst the guild group pulls off the enemy zerg, so if you don’t see a tag form a party and go cap stuff. I’m still amazed at those that quit the BL as soon as they die once ‘omg we’re outnumbered we can’t do anything’….
It’s just another example of gating in a game that started off seemingly promising that gating would be left for other MMO’s to do, but not this one.
These weapons, materials, etc should not be account bound, just as ascended armor and weapons and trinkets should not be (until equipped). Having these tradeable would make the game a lot more interesting for those of us who don’t consider GW2 to be our main job.
People using a credit card to get hold of something? You should be happy if they do, they are supporting the game.
Guild Wars 2 quick with balance issues?
I might have missed something but Guild Wars 2 never managed to get even close to balanced during all their years of active development.
There, I fixed that for you.
It seems like that the original people have either left the dev teams or been shunted to one side, and the almost ‘promised’ things that people most want to see (crafting or obtaining precursors, etc) are no longer on the radar (a bit like wvw).
Instead they focus on gem store shinies and throwing out LS2 maps, as that is where they can make the most money in the short term.
It is summer, less people play overall. Was the same last summer.
People will swarm back with the next Season.
As to how you can know how a “large amount of players” left every single server I don’t really know but I am still seeing plenty of WvW:ers when I play.
Lots of people have left my server (and the game), that’s a fact, confirmed by my friends list. We have gained more bandwagoners as we are SFR, so there is still a small q at prime time on EB. We also gained a new guild who server hopped this week.
The AP hunters will swarm it for a couple weeks IF they can be bothered to make a season 3.
It’s very obvious on my server (can’t speak for others) that numbers are down, commanders that have lead for a long time have quit and the general mood amongst wvw’rs is that if there was anything similar with better dev support out there we’d be off to that game.
Maybe people from other servers can comment on their general numbers.
100 people a side? Servers can’t cope with 80 a side in any battles.
100 people will just be more zerg v zerg v zerg.
Gem charge is a bad idea.
Players should not drop anything, gvg should be for guild pride. Making it 100 people makes this a non-starter.
Combining guilds to make a ‘team’ means a lack of organisation that is the key point of proper guild vs guild combat.
GvG needs it’s own maps designed for 10vs10, 15, 20, guild lords, boost aka cap the flag mechanics, death penalty and all the other bits that made GvG such fun in gw1. Something that defeats the current GWEN meta mindless zerg.
Sorry to hear you’ve left. I think a lot of us still play as there’s nothing better to do and killing enemies is sometimes quite a lot of fun, even if it’s the same mechanics and GWEN all the time.
(Saves space for the positive spin master’s reply below).
You can choose to buy missed content, or you can not play it. That’s all we know for certain.
IF it follows personal story, then you would have to fill in any gaps in content in order to progress. If there are 10 parts and you happen to be on a break from the game, then it would costs you £20 to buy all the permanent new LS2 content, so it’s just like buying an expansion.
From a map design point of view, I can’t see them making every piece separate so that you can get directly to it without needing to walk through at least some of the previous pieces, which suggests that you will need to fill in any gaps.
And LS2 happens to be running during the holiday season, which should generate some healthy gem sales for ANET as people miss a section on their holidays.
Of course being American they won’t get that many Europeans take longer vacations than in the USA and missing at least one section won’t be unusual over here.
Krall will put a positive spin on everything ANET say- they really should hire him as a hidden PR person if they aren’t already paying him. You don’t HAVE to purchase the missing content, perfectly correct in as far as you state it. But then you WILL miss out on permanent content- no maybe about it. You either pay for it, or you don’t get it. that’s the options being offered by ANET.
They could have made getting a precursor tied to something of an achievement- like map completion. Make it award the exploration thing PLUS one two handed or two one handed precursors of your choice.
What’s a precursor drop? Do they actually drop? Never had one drop, although did manage to craft one or two in mystic toilet.
Lack of decent rewards is killing off wvw too, and people coming from EoTM where they are use to karma train and defending nothing. These people don’t even know siege has a timer!
