My advice to a new warrior: Do not go Greatsword and full zerker. There’s much better ways to get much higher DPS if you need it, and your mobility is kitten as a GS warrior reslulting in death. If you’re into WvW, any good player will see rush and 100b coming from a mile away and there are infinite ways to mitigate or avoid that damage, and once you’ve done that you have nowhere to go with your rotations. I’d suggest axe/shield with longbow secondary. You’ve got good survivability with the longbow’s mobility as well as the damage mitigation power of the shield. The axe is there purely for burst when you need it. Rifle has the same issues as GS in that your mobility is limited even though the projectiles travel faster than the longbow, and it’s single-target just like the effectiveness of a lot of GS skills (you don’t have an AoE pull like the guardian so often you’ll only be hitting one enemy at a time with GS). Personally, I run axe/axe longbow because of how effective axe 5 is at quickly maxing my adrenaline and often I’m waiting for the eviscerate cooldown to end at the rate in which I use the skill. For a new warrior, I’d suggest you run cavalier armor (You can’t buy this. You’re going to have to run dungeons for the power/toughness/crit damage gear, sorry.) with either rampager or rabid trinkets depending on how much toughness you want. Both give you nice precision and condition damage, it’s only a matter of power over toughness. Once this is done you should have a pretty balanced build with great survivability and high crit damage, as well as being fairly mobile and able to run circles around standardized GS warriors.
As for your traits, run 30/20/0/0/20. The traits you pick should be fairly obvious other than Death From Above which comes in handy more than you know.
Hope you take my advice to heart,
Ferrum.
Go kudzu. The longbow is your best friend in WvW.
I’ve done this many times and should probably start recording these fights. Let me tell you this: 100% chance to rally on a kill from Vengeance is a must. Master your cast time on your downed state knockdown. For me, downing in these fights is a big part of my play style, not because I’m inefficient but because it provides a free condition wipe which my build doesn’t have and allows me to heal up to half health if I’m staying consistently low on a rally. Get used to being downed. You’re not a mesmer or thief and vengeance is your best friend. I play like a thief when I’m roaming solo, and when I come upon 3-5 players that I’m confident in bringing down I look for high ground (but not too high. Just high enough to activate my fall damage Knockback for the element of surprise). Once I initiate the fight I generally kite them with my longbow, counting the dodges of the one I choose to burst down. Once they’ve dodged twice before their third dodge can regen I snare them, pop my might stacks and heal (to negate the damage that was done during the wait-out and also to fully charge my adrenaline) and burst them down quickly with eviscerate followed by axe 2 and a single chain of axe 1. By this time their friends are on me while they’re downed trying to res their friend, so I use axe 5 to quickly build adrenaline, hitting the others and bringing them off of the downed enemy, switching to longbow and using skill 3 to burst, by which time if they’ve stayed on the downed, they’re down as well. I only perform a stomp if a mesmer is downed and applying confusion stacks, otherwise bursting until dead is the key way to go as it lures the others to attempt to res their allies. Once I finish off the first and shortly after, the second which tried to res them (It never ceases to fail), I use my dodges wisely while I wait for my heal to reach 5 seconds until I can activate it again, hit endure pain and using the adrenaline I’ve built from killing the first/second enemy, I eviscerate while I’m safe under the effects of Endure Pain. Once my heal is up I can switch back to longbow and kite what’s usually the last player who’s already under 50% health, use longbow 4 for a blind, 3 to nuke them below 25% health and the snare followed by my heal, switch back to axes and eviscerate.
That’s basically a rundown of my ideal fight which I’ve done many times. However, conditions may vary and I may face more challenging opponents. That’s when I intentionally use the downed state and vengeance as a way to reset a fight. You can slowly pick them off one by one just like a thief, but not having stealth you need to improvise. Call me crazy, but the downed state is your friend.
I’ve found that if you run Zerker gear with Superior Runes of the Eagle, ascended rabid backpiece, ascended rabid accessories, and cavalier amulet & rings you’ll end up with the same 88% crit chance, a much higher armor rating (more survivability), and increased condition damage to boot.
As for my melee weapons I run dual axes. The mobility is far more than running a greatsword and the damage is on par, as well as being able to have multiple sigils. (Accuracy and Rage)

I’ve yet to come across a thief who can even down my mantra mesmer. The fact that I remove all conditions and heal every 1.33 seconds makes it very difficult for thieves to apply their conditions, and combined with the build’s high mobility it’s extremely difficult to burst me down. Versus a GOOD thief I end up in this never-ending 1v1 when the thief keeps steal thing to reset the fight. On a recent encounter I was able to moa them 6 times before they finally ran off, since the fight was going nowhere. I don’t consider myself the best mesmer out there (especially because I main a warrior; mesmer’s just a fun class to play), but I do consider myself a decent player. I’ve yet to fight a dodge bunker thief so maybe that’s my mesmer’s weakness? I don’t know.
Actually as a hardcore WvW player I do NEED to spend all of this time doing these things. That 8% stat increase is significant enough to be the determining factor in a fight between myself and an equally skilled player. There’s been several times where one of my builds perfectly counters another and said fight turns into a never-ending battle. If I’m hitting 8% harder, or taking 8% less damage or have 8% more health the numbers keep going up, and that balanced fight tips in favor of me winning. I don’t know if the OP has ever played a game with a gear treadmill before, but essentially higher stats are a need if you’re in the competitive world.
One of my good friends is a D/D condition thief and is very effective against large groups of people, especially stupid GS warriors who stand there and let him LDB over them 4 times. The only build he’s encountered which he cannot beat is my mantra mesmer build which fully removes all conditions about every 1.33 seconds each time I cast a mantra and each time I heal. Most people, however, do not run full condition removal builds and most mesmers laugh at mantra builds, so the condition thief still prevails in most every fight, even when outnumbered.
Does nobody know about the ascended quiver backpieces? Seriously. It seems like we’re beating a dead horse at this point. They’re already in game, people.
If any of you have watched TL talk about this on Tales of Tyria you’d know how we stand on this. Organized WvW teams can only go so far against zergs which triple our own numbers, which should not be the case. In my opinion, the AoE limit is the primary reason as to why zerging is so effective compared to legitimate tactics and strategies.
Ctrl + Mouse 2 to disable auto attack. Stop attacking when you see confusion on you. It’s as simple as that.
Are you mocking me?
Of course I stop attacking unless my condition cleansing is up.
Do you think the Mesmer will stop attacking? No. Therefore your health goes down while Mesmer health stay at top.Any more useful advice other than scaling down its damage?
Honestly, confusion will never be as effective as straight damage. Sure, you may be less effective while waiting for your condition removal but that’s why there are metas in the first place. You can spec your build specifically to deal with confusion mesmers. For example, I run a mantra mesmer who’s also specced to remove a condition every time I heal. I have 3 heals due to my mantra setup, and it works quite effectively against these condition/confusion mesmers.
As for in general, you’re rarely going to encounter these types of mesmers roaming since they have little to no mobility, and if you’re facing a glamour (confusion) mesmer in a zerg v zerg or group v group situation, simply to stop attacking is your best bet as they’re not going to dive into your group balls-deep and pursue you.
I made a long post about this a while back right after the latest patch went live. The problem is the incentive to zerg, which is enforced by the fact that you gain WXP the fastest via zerging and capping points the quickest. Right now I’m running havoc almost all day in WvW and see my rank slipping behind most others simply because I’m not conforming to the zerg. They do have the technology to determine the amount of players around as well. That’s how dynamic event scaling works, so certain posters in this thread should look at other examples in the game where this is implemented.
In response to Olba, nobody uses the squad function of commanders. On a daily basis I can have an 80-man zerg behind me and check /squadinfo and only have 6 people in my squad, even if I tell the zerg to join my squad. The changes would do nothing to commanders.

whatever, i wish to know if these rings when i’m finished to gear up all my toons will be usefull or just vendor junk
I’ve been yelled at for merching 30 ascended rings at a time. All of my level 80 alts have ascended rings to match their stats and those that aren’t 80 have them lying in the bank for when they turn 80. It’s really not a big deal. Each ring sells for 4s 75c, and when you get a lot of them that adds up pretty quickly.
I take it none of the posters have played WvW :/. We use “tank”, “DPS” and “Heal” builds in our metas all the time. My mesmer heals myself and allies for 2700 every 3 seconds without the restriction of the AoE cap. If that’s not a healer I don’t know what is. I don’t know if you’ve heard of a bunker, but that’s basically a super tank in sPvP and WvW. And as for DPS I’m just going to assume you’ve heard of full zerker armor. I don’t know about you, but I’m sitting comfortably in a lot of different roles across my alts. Warrior is DPS/survivability, my mesmer is DPS/semi-passive healer, my guardian is a symbol bunker, my ele is D/D DPS/tank hybrid and my thief is a sword/dagger flanking strike evade bunker. All of these builds I’m quite proficient at and enjoy each and every one of them. Just because GW2 doesn’t “have a trinity” doesn’t mean you can’t put yourself into a role. It simply means that a warrior doesn’t HAVE to DPS. A guardian doesn’t HAVE to tank. An ele doesn’t HAVE to heal. The game lets you play your own niche on the class you love to play.
EDIT: as for combos, you won’t find a place where they’re more used. Than WvW or elitist dungeon teams. Buffing up, using light fields for condition removal, utilizing whirl finishers for AoE range, etc are a staple of the “elitist” community.

You have to realize that GW1 will have been out for 8 years this month. That’s a long time to give a game lots of content, and I’m sure that several years down the line GW2 will have plenty of content including new skills.
Well I just bought it for the 5th time for my latest alt, if that’s what you mean. Otherwise, no. Never. The rarest dye I’ve gotten is burgundy. (And the most expensive was gold)
I think this is funny. OP, have you ever heard of min/maxing and diminishing returns on the effectiveness of stats the likes of which could be far better allocated?
I’m a Charr warrior with both the ascended quiver and Kudzu and it looks great
People say that there are clipping issues and animation complications with adding capes into the game. I’m not for or against capes/cloaks but I will share my knowledge with you.
ArenaNet creates the foundations to their game in Autodesk Maya. Models, animations, textures and effects are originated here. It’s my belief that ArenaNet’s issue with capes aren’t clipping errors and animating, but the game engine itself. Here’s why:
Autodesk Maya 2013 makes it insanely easy to add “collision” to objects that interact with nCloths. All ArenaNet would have to do to make capes is create a basic textured rectangle, apply an nCloth effect (which makes it move with your movements, acting like real cloth just like certain cultural butt-capes) and the apply collision checkboxes to every armor in the game. The complications come in when they port the model into the game world, in which other complications arise. Will collision effect other aspects of the game? Will capes collide with other players’ armor while you’re standing half-clipped inside of them?
Unless they redesign the engine to accommodate the collision of every armor in the game, capes won’t happen.
Yay! So the Super Adventure Box must be an April Fools’ event. I just hope it actually happens. If it doesnt..... *Shakes fist*
This award will always go out to my dear friend, Wrecktumm.
…and also the duo:
“The Cut”
And
“The Bandaid”
I think they should stop adding and adding to RNG’s. They create more money sinks, which we have enough of (cough WvW).
You don’t already have warriors slaying you to bits?
As a North American I can say this: It’s a geography-based decision process at ArenaNet. The European competitive scene is far greater than any other part of the world and ANet must cater to their needs. Oceanic players just don’t care and like the game for what it is, and I seldom see them complaining about anything but their own Internet (I feel for you guys). Finally we come down to NA players. North American players are the only geographic section of gamers who think that they can get e-famous, and thereby make posts like this, demanding that ArenaNet give them tools to become “known”. Guess what, cupcake? It just doesn’t happen. You get e-famous from doing something stupid that makes people laugh on YouTube, not by playing a single game and decking out your character. Please, if you really think that ArenaNet cares that you’ll quit their game if they don’t give you what you want /right now/ just go ahead and leave. You won’t make a difference. Posts that have acceptable content and provide a logical argument as to why their suggestions should be implemented into the game catch ANet’s attention.
One word: no. I worked my kitten off capturing keeps and organizing the kitten out of my old server to capture 100% of the map, and it was so satisfying to get that 100% in WvW, and really helps call out locations as a commander. I now have my Kudzu and I’ll be kitten if they make it easier to get a legendary. WvW map completion is a time sink, which is something that legendaries have a lot of. I found it really fun capturing keeps and such, and although it may have been easier being a respected commander on GoM, I still don’t think it should be removed. It would be completely unfair to those of us with legendaries.
ArenaNet has very few races that are completely evil, and will not associate with any other playable race. The Krait are one of them. From a lore perspective it would be impossible to make them a playable race. This is about as likely as flying mounts.
I think that they should only display the title below the name if we mouse over them. Then, only one person at a time would show their title.
As a Charr I have to oppose this new mega jp. :’(
I’d love to see them bring back a character from the original guild wars that isn’t inherently immortal (I’m looking at you, Ogden, even though I still love you.).
if you could teleport to work, the store, the bar, out to eat, visit family around the country, anytime you wanted, for less than the cost of a gallon of gas per use, would you honestly still use a car for anything, ever?
If you owned a Ferrari (or any exotic supercar) would it change your mind?

….What’s PvE?
Can I ask if you think you’ve gotten your money’s worth out of GW2?
Not when u factor money spent on gems
I’m talking about the money you spent on the box. It’s your own fault if you wasted money on gems and got screwed in the RNGs.
I agree it was my choice to spend money on gems but I could have never funded wvw without doing it. When you are losing 20+ gold every week in wvw and u find pve so boring there isn’t much of an option other than to stop trying to win
4 hours of farming CoF and you’d have more than 30 gold to spend on WvW. It’s what I’m currently doing and I’m not seeing a big decrease in my wallet.

… You’re waiting in front of your workspace’s main entrance yelling ANY1 PLS THROW A FLAME RAM !???
You just wait for a commander, no need to shout.
You know you played WvW too long when your inventory is full
…across all 9 of your characters.
Hey all,
As many of you know, Team Legacy officially announced our leave of the GW2 WvW scene (see http://www.teamlegacy.net), and many of us still wish to be part of the dubVdub scene simultaneously remaining a part of the Team Legacy Community as we await the next great RvR based MMO.
This is my request to be a part of another large WvW guild, be it tier 1 or tier 8. In the spirit of Team Legacy, I don’t care if you are a hardcore guild or have the spirit to be one on the front of WvW. I only request that I’m welcomed to whomever’s chapter with open arms.
See you on the battlefield,
Commander Ferrum Blacktide – Team Legacy
P.S – Assume transfer fees taken care of.

I’m not an elitist.
In game I’m probably one of the nicest people you’ll meet.
But I sure as sugar will be trying to get to the top of these leaderboards. Because being the top of something is cool, even if you aren’t going to brag about it. A lot of player want to acheive everything in a game, so knowing they are closer than a lot of other people is fairly appealing.
Also, I started achievement hunting lately and I’ll tell you, some of the things that you normally don’t do that are required for achievements are very fun. A lot of the jumping puzzles for example are amazing. The end of Griffon Rook Run for example…
Breathtaking.
I’m not going to lie, I’ve been doing the same thing for a while and I’m currently at 6,683 points, but I feel that the leaderboards will be gated in the sense that those people with the crazy high amounts will always be at the top and those of us who haven’t worked on Agent of Entropy or done all of the PvE content since launch won’t ever be able to be on the top.
I like this thread. It’s like the suggestion forum without the trolls and you can get a generalization of what the players want.
I only would like to see one thing.
- more skins (armor, weapon, BACKPIECES)
An Achievement Leaderboard?
Really?
There was nothing else for the Dev’s to spend their time and money on then to elevate some players above others and make them “special” as opposed to the other 99.9% of us?
Now we will all be judged by our position (or lack thereof) on the Achievement Leaderboard.
Bad move, Anet.
I can agree with this. The fact that they’re creating more opportunities for elitists to boast makes me sad.
If they added an envoy scythe that ended up being far harder to get than any legendary I’d keep playing just for nostalgia sake.
Personal Opinion Below
SPvP Strongest – Ele
SPvP Weakest – Warrior
As a warrior main I second this. As for WvW, there’s really no telling. A lot of people would say that thief or mesmer is best in WvW but once you learn to differentiate clones and AoE/learn to register hits on invisible targets they really start to come on an even ground. The weakest in WvW by far are engineers and rangers (until they buff engies and fix the ranger pet AI).
I’m still unimpressed with the amount of WvW those of you with more than 7k achievement points have done. You’re on rank 2. Congrats. I have 42k kills in W kittenittenhus rank 4, nearly rank 5. My point is that those of us who WvW and rarely PvE will find little to no love in this achievement tracking system.
nothing impressive with wvw kills actually. you can be fully equiped with ascended/exotics and kill lvl 2 players with blue rarity amours for a kill count.
at least in spvp everyone is of the same level with equal amount of trait points and has the same standard equipment available to them for free
Not my point. My point is that people who WvW over PvE are getting snuffed on these rankings.
Go devious…
Switch the weapons, heals, utilities and elite of one class for the weapons etc of another. It would be a day to remember when almost all the postings on GW2LFG are:
“COF P1 LF4M ZERG$$$$$ have a ranger but still need 4 necros; warriors and mesmers need not apply.Even if it were for only one day it would be quite the sight for these old eyes.
You seem sour about that <_<. Make a warrior perhaps?
Sad that nobody else supports this it would seem :\

I think I’ll do some concept art for new armors to add to this suggestion. Stay tuned!
ANet uses Autodesk Maya for their models and effects. I don’t see why they can’t simply make a rectangle and add Maya nCloth effects to it. This would make the capes move with the character’s movements (they added nDynamics to the quaggan backpacks, FYI. Same thing), so it isn’t an animation issue at all. The issue I see is making every armor piece and weapon have a collision variable that influenced where the cape would rest. That’s where the issue lies, I believe. Clipping wouldn’t be a problem if adding collision variables to every skin didn’t pose a real threat to FPS.
