I run a weird build that works better when I’m fighting more opponents, so I take down the bunkers first and leave those who will tick my healing more for last, which is why mesmers and their clones who stand in my caltrop stacks and tick SoM are always last and great.

I run a solo roaming condition bunker and it’s a hell of a lot more fun being able to sit there and melt entire 20-man zergs with conditions while I maintain 100% health while I watch them drop like flies as they stand in my caltrops. The hype behind GC builds is so overrated. People respect the fact that I can still take them down and I don’t go with the “M” word.

I advise that you try everything before you settle down with a build.

Back on topic, I see no reason why you’re running dagger offhand. You have no condition duration to increase dagger 4, no condition damage for LDB to actually be useful with your build and the only thing useful is CnD. I’d run pistol offhand with that build personally. The applications for GC builds are far greater and you still have a stealth with the BP/HS combo, as well as CC for survivability and heal hate, and D/P dual hits harder than a truck and also acts as a gap closer.

Take it how you will, but dagger offhand isn’t the best choice for that kind of build.

PVT gear isn’t great on thieves IMO. Thieves have the lowest Diminishing returns on toughness due to our low health pool, you’d be better off with cleric’s gear if you wanted a higher EHP (more toughness plus healing in stealth = higher effective HP and lower incoming burst damage). Just make sure to keep Condi removal in stealth traited and you’ll have no need for vitality either. In my experience, healing power is a far greater asset with thieves than vitality, which only acts as a buffer which you’ll never get back until you’ve died or you’re out of combat.

Rambling over, good day!

Cheers. I tried to do the whole BP + HS for stealth proc and it is something I would definitely need to get use to. I was looking up Shadow’s Rejuvenation to make sure it was worth picking up and it seems, if i read this right, I can potential earn back approx 1300 health if I stay in stealth for the full duration. I wonder if this would actually make my Hide in Shadows slightly stronger on top of the normal heal + regen?

That’s correct. I find Shadow’s Rejuvination much more effective than most thieves however since I use apothecary gear, which has healing as a main stat. If you’re using HiS, the normal heal would heal for the full amount and the moment you entered stealth would start regenerating health. That’s why I said to run cleric’s if you’re still looking to do damage with the extra power stat and healing to make your SR highly effective. Just make sure to keep 2 sources of stealth (one small, like HiS and one big, like Shadow Refuge) to maintain your health while your heal is down.

I may not be able to see it from your point of view. 500 AP for GW1 Hall of Monuments Intended?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Viking Jorun.5413

To those claiming that the skins are good enough: they aren’t. There is no prestige involved in the skins (except for 25-30 which were actually hard to obtain) which anyone could have gotten 5 months into the game. The time it took to invest 50/50 was immensely satisfying, yet you see another Champion Of The Gods title nearly everywhere you go. I feel that this minor boost (yes, minor) gives some leeway to those of us who dedicated our time to the original game. When I logged in after the patch, I found myself caught up to my friends who had only finished more dailies and nothing else than I (now we’re all around 7000 AP).

I hope they don’t revert this. I really do.

Celestrial (yes, that’s how it’s spelled) gear doesn’t really have a niche per say. In all of my experience in hardcore WvW/PvP guilds I’ve only come across one group who uses said gear, and those are elementalists. They don’t use it for a purpose, they use it to make the game more challenging because PVT bunkering is too easy, and most people use it as a crutch.

The black widow wasn’t exactly easy to get in GW1 either. You had to either finish part of the Underworld (end-game zone, it’s a bit like if you had to get 1/2 way through Arah explorable), or pay a small fortune to the Zaishen Menagerie.

If you’ve been playing GW1 for years it shouldn’t be that hard to get a black widow in this game. You’ll probably have a lot of points already (in fact you can get some for putting your original black widow in the Hall) and you’ll be in a good position to get more. This guide gives you a good idea of how you can get them: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guide_to_earning_Hall_of_Monuments_rewards

I’ve gotten over 30 points and the only ones I really had to work for were some of the destroyer and oppressor weapons and vabbian armor (just because I would never have gotten that set normally, and paid more than average because I got it just after the calculator came out).

If I could I’d give you my black widow. I’m arachnophobic so I couldn’t stand having a spider running around after me. I paid the Menagerie to unlock and level both of them so I could complete my collection and have never used the one in GW2.

You paid someone to level your character to get the points? I’d be willing to do that xD, I miss my spider.

Really? You’d probably hate my house then, in real life I have pet tarantulas, scorpions, snakes, praying mantises, etc.

No, I paid Zaishen coins to the NPC in the Zaishen Menagerie in GW1 to unlock and level the black widow and moss spiders for me. I think most people don’t bother because it’s quicker to level the pets yourself than to farm the coins, but it is an option for all pets and very appealing when seeing your own pet behind you freaks you out.

(I’d love the snakes, praying mantises etc. though, it’s only spiders I don’t like.)

If you mean the part where I said I only really had to work for some points I don’t mean someone else did it for me, just that most of them came from things I did anyway, even before I knew about the HoM, like finishing the campains and maxing titles or getting armor sets, minis etc. I liked. I don’t count that as time spent working towards my HoM points because that wasn’t what I was aiming for when I did it, I just wanted that armor set or title or whatever, being able to add it to the hall was a bonus.

Ahh that makes more sense, although I have level 20 characters on GW 1, I didn’t get any points from any of the compaigns because I completed them before I bought eye of the north and they didn’t register, I’ve beaten prophecies, factions, nightfall, etc. but didn’t get any HoM points from any activities.

You have to physically go into the hall of monuments and tell the monument you completed the campaign.

To those of you clueless people: the Triforge Pendant isn’t a Zelda reference. Triforge Industries was the name of ArenaNet before it became, well, ArenaNet. Viking Jorun.5413

The Zenith weapons sure look like they’re made of some sort of crystal. And since we all know that Quartz is a crystal and it is being introduced in this update, it wouldn’t surprise me if the two are actually related.

Maybe just a coincidence, but both have something to do with watches. Zenith, beside being a term for the highest point reached by a celestial body above the place of observation, is also a famous swiss watch manufacture, and quartz is commonly used in the construction of clocks and watches.

Ah, inductive reasoning.

“Because A=B and C=B, A must equal C through relation to B”

English 101, just because said things have some middle ground in common doesnt make them related in any way.

Reminiscing back to the days of Guild Wars 1, I recalled how difficult it was to get to level 20 (max level back then) in that starter area.

I’m challenging those of you brave enough to reach level 20 within your race’s tutorial instance in tribute to the Legendary Defenders of Ascalon. If you’re able to do it, you’ll recieve not only bragging rights, but the utmost respect from every Guild Wars 1 Legendary Defender.

Now I know that there aren’t events in the tutorial areas, so you’ll be stuck with your starter weapons and leveling solely on starter mobs within the confined instance area. Good luck, and godspeed.

He was referring to the fact that GW1 only had 20 levels, and they weren’t terribly hard to achieve (unless you wanted to become the Legendary Defender of Ascalon, in which case all mobs stopped giving you xp after level 10 and your only resource to xp was completing daily quests once you’d done every other quest in Presearing Ascalon. Imagine a very limited tutorial where you had to get to the max level in.)

Can nobody do math? 200% coin from kills is only 2x the coin from kills you currently recieve without boosts. With all of the gold boosts you have a maximum of 250% or 2.5x the gold FROM KILLS per hour. Each CoF run produces on average 80s per run not including drops, and only half of that is from kills (quick 8 runs confirmed this)
40s x 2.5 = 1g + 40s, so it’s 1g 40s per run, not 15g. This doesn’t include the end reward which varies depending on DR, but there is no way without drops to get 1.5g per run as it is with the current limit of +50% coin from kills maximum buffer.

I received my precursor as a gift from Gate of Madness back in November in thanks to organizing the server for WvW. I’m proud of my legendary that I crafted it into, and even if nobody else sees the sentimental value in that,, it’ll always be my pride and joy. People like you anger me when you assume that we (those of us with legendaries) obtained them illegitimately, and didn’t work our kitten off. I farmed for 18 hours a day for 2 months straight to get everything for my legendary not including my precursor, and even considered quitting the game after getting my legendary. I’ve felt no greater sense of achievement in this game than placing those 4 items in the forge and seeing that beautiful purple-embossed legendary weapon rise up.

It is legendary. Less than 1% of the entire population has one, so I’ll leave you this.

You may get frustrated, you may want to quit, but earning that precursor at the very least is a rite of passage. We of the 1% are waiting with open arms.

What does warrior do best (sPvP)?

in Warrior

Posted by: Viking Jorun.5413

Viking Jorun.5413

Actually I dont think warriors are good in sPvP in a general sense. But this one aspect of heavily punishing enemies trying to rez, and getting your own members up, is something my warrior outperforms any of the other classes I’ve played so far.

So what I am suggesting is a sort of philosophy of how to play in the current state of things of; go to the main teamfight, play conservatively with regards to cooldowns/keep your distance (like a thief basically, dont brawl), then when someone goes down bring the pain like an angry bull.

That’s definitely one way to do it. I personally have my own build that I developed specifically to keep me in the fight, even if it’s 5v1. I can preach shout heals all day, but most warriors won’t listen. I do agree that, if you’re playing a DPS build it’s a necessity for any class to play conservatively like a thief, and most warriors don’t understand that. When in melee you want to stay behind your opponent at all times, or he’s going to lock you down.
