I love how nobody’s bringing up the fact that ArenaNet is planning on providing permanent content with the new 4-team setup, whereas right now we’re still in the remnants of the 1-team bi-weekly rotation. We’re going to start seeing larger and larger updates for the next 4 months until it plateaus out, giving a balance of temporary and permanent content.
Or he could have been using sword and teleporting all over god’s green earth
There’s an AoE at the point of IS, and Shadow Return now has a range limit. I highly doubt that he was using sword teleport.
There also has to be LoS in order to teleport.
zach….use sneak attack in shadow refuge…not daggerstorm. its almost guaranteed 10-12 hits before it ends or whatever. daggerstorm is only gonna hit that much if you have 10 people around.
and be careful u are goign to get alot of trolls now. everytime i see a p/d post i see the same few coming in here hating on it. “noob build” “no effectivity” “horrible” " you suck" :P show a video and ull see.
Dagger storm depends on proximity. If you stand inside of your enemy or right next to them it’s guaranteed to hit 8 times with no other targets around. That number is doubled for each enemy around you and you also have a missile reflect.
However, thieves’ guild is still OP as kitten, and if you aren’t running Signet of Malice or zerging you should probably just opt for Thieves Guild.
He could have just been running an initiative regen build with dagger offhand and spamming CnD. My best guess.
I hope that they make it easier to get after this “test” is over..
I play a condition thief most days, a support heal mantra mesmer, and a DPS/Condi longbow warrior. I have all 8 classes, but that’s just an example of my main 3. Berserker gear isn’t the only viable option, especially when you step outside the realm of PvE.
I think I forgot to charge a crystal yesterday, which puts me behind, and I don’t know if I can be bothered anymore, as I don’t want the Celestial stats anyway.
This time-gating is Really beginning to hack me off now. It’s not fun, there’s no interesting mechanic behind it and it seems to purely be just a cheap way to keep people logging in. If they don’t log in, they’ll miss out on STUFF!
Pull it together ArenaNet, you’re losing your touch incredibly quickly.
what was your motivation of getting them in the first place if you didn’t want celestial stats?
Although I think anet is on the right track with the whole time gating thing, 30 days for a complete armor set is too much.
Especially when it takes less than a day to a few days for certain armor sets depending on time spent and tokens/money had. I wouldn’t mind being able to craft a single piece per day like they claimed with ascended gear, but it’s ridiculous the amount of time it takes for celestial, only being able to craft a single piece every 5 days. A week is fine. A month for a stat set needs to not happen.
Viking and Travalane should just duel and get it over with, simple as that. xD
I wish
. My GTX 690 overheated on Friday and I’ve been awaiting my new GeForce GTX 780 ever since. I’m hoping it’ll be here soon, and I’m planning on streaming our duel.
- downstate – what the kitten is it doing in PVP? gamebreakingly unfun and annoying
- it’s boring – map design is boring, game type is boring, how is standing in a circle as a main objective fun?
- lack of depth/diversity, feels shallow. builds are way too predictable and traits don’t make enough of a difference to make the gameplay varied and interesting.
- the UI is bad. visually noisy and unconfigurable. the most important info is tiny.
Wooh! Go opinionated responses that say it like it’s fact!
Don’t let the daily forum warriors scare you off. Almost everything stated on the forums are a hyperbole, and the game itself will tell you exactly how it is. I encourage you to play around with the different skill combinations; choosing the right skills for your build is part of the challenge. You don’t have 100 skills like you could in WoW, you now have 10. It’s up to you to determine how to best utilize those 10 skills.
Anthony posted that information to set your expectations accordingly.
It’s great that you all want Canthan content and it’s cool that you’re all passionate about the content you enjoy, but wishing for things to happen and expecting certain things to happen will not necessarily translate into those things actually happening.
Rather than have you working yourselves up into a speculative frenzy at the sight of the change in the Great Collapse and you being disappointed and angry later because you formed undue expectations based upon theories and speculation, Anthony wanted to make sure your expectations are grounded now.
Here we are, fervently telling you what we want. Here you are, telling us to not get worked up into a frenzy because we aren’t going to get it.
Here’s what I say to that: so what if your plans for the Great Collapse don’t currently include anything Canthan? Clearly, a great many people here want something – anything – Canthan back in the game. Here’s a grand opportunity to make a lot of Guild Wars fans happy – for a change! – and all you have to do to do this is exhibit a little bit of flexibility.
In light of all these passionate expectations, would it kill you guys to maybe adjust your plans – just a little – and throw us Cantha fans a bone here?
+1, although I think ANet wants to be able to implement anything Canthan as well. It’s NCSoft restricting the kitten ed racial variety. It’s been said before, but this is why communism doesn’t work. The intentions are there in the rules, but sometimes the rule makers create rules that they themselves don’t have to follow.
I hope this thread is enough to show NCSoft how much we love Cantha. If there’s anything we as players can do in order to further show our love for Cantha and desire to have it and all of its amenities back, let us know.
Maybe I’ll post a picture of me giving blood for Cantha <.<
I’m only working toward a full armor set. 30 days is rediculous when I could get any stat set in a day. I wouldn’t mind being able to purchase charges quartz, even if it were 2g per piece.
I don’t think it’ll be this way. I think, in all honesty, that you’ll be happy with the one set of ascended gear you get. It’s the build kittens like me that physically need a legendary of every item in order to have the ultimate flexibility rather than trying to obtain multiple gear sets, sacrificing bag slots.
I replied to your message and provided you a sword/pistol build. Hope you like it! I’ve still got to finish gearing my thief for that build outside of PvP, but I’ll be posting a video when that’s done.
If you’re going to run D/D, remember to precast CnD and chain it into steal to assure you hit 100% of the time. At that point Backstab can usually finish off any glass cannon or lowbie straggler in WvW.
30/30/10 is the best sustained damage.
Weapons are D/D (or S/x) and shortbow.
Armor is full zerker with scholar runes.
You’re better off taking offhand pistol for defensive blinds. CnD does a lot of damage but it doesn’t prevent you from getting hit.
Anthony posted that information to set your expectations accordingly.

Does this mean that we’ll at least get an arts district? I could settle for that. Or a jumping puzzle. Or an exploration into the great collapse that leads to the catacombs where we face a giant bone golem boss, but I probably should just expect a jumping puzzle.
I heard a data miner found some leather chaps.
Lol. That’s almost believable from the thumbnail.
Please, all P/D threads will be subject to Travlane intervention.
Anyway, onto the subject at hand. Unless you’re playing a high-stealth blind build (which P/D cannot accomplish as well as D/P or S/P) you’re better off using a different trait. I’d either choose Infusion of Shadow or Slowed Pulse, depending on your build’s access to condition removal.
Guys, it’s not a dirt pile. It’s a tarp covering something either completed or under construction.
It’s about time the war with the centaurs went somewhere.. But.. How will half of Kryta be affected if we resolve the centaur threat?
Southsun Survival is so. much. fun.
If they could tie these sorts of mini-games to Guild Halls so groups of friends can play (as opposed to them being randomised) I think they’d be onto a winner.
+1 for emphasis. Colin, if you’re reading this, this is a good idea.
UGGHHH. Can’t log in ;-;. Get here sooner, replacement graphics card!!
Everyone! Go to the
Cantha District, I mean The Great Collapse! Something new showed up!
I’m unable to log into the game at the moment. Would there be an NPC in Divinity’s Reach with more info? I doubt that a pile of dirt in the former great collapse and Canthan District would show up on its own. Someone had to have put the dirt there and removed the bridge to make way for construction, and something that big seems like at least a handful of people would know about it and why it’s there.
I’d like to know if reflecting Hunters Shot will give us stealth instead.
It’s the delinquent effect. One bad seed ruins something great for the entire community. It sucks, but life is so.
Honestly it’s 3 seconds of stealth and rangers are forced to use Longbow which severely gimps any currently troublesome builds (SB 1 spamming, anyone?). I don’t see this becoming an issue. Engineers already have stealth, so do mesmers and elementalists.
#TechSupportForum
Nope. Haven’t had any problems like this.
Perhaps NCSoft has reconsidered their ideas on “universal” and we’ll see the Canthan district again!
This is why in the time it takes me as a condition thief to destroy one arrow cart, my zerg has already traveled from north camp to center quaggan. I also can’t test my build out on dummies in PvE because they’re all immune to conditions. :P
I use Bolt and Incinerator, and honestly it’s not an issue. Thief is the one profession where how shiny you look really doesn’t matter because of stealth. Not to mention with the addition of wind catcher backpiece, I now look like a walking hurricane, with a touch of flame.
Pics or it didn’t happen! ANd lots pls
I kind of want to see what the footsteps look like with both Bolt and Incinerator.
Now I’m starting to see why ANet may have opted to not impliment the rapier… It would be the next Shattered Wings.
That’s because the Aetherblade weapons are the pretty ones we saw from the reddit links. The Aetherized weapons are clunky and in appealing because they’ve got a fairly high drop rate.
You can actually make it un-soulbound by transmuting it onto a basic white account-bound item. You’re welcome.
Perhaps you should have posted this in the PvP subforum as well for a different reaction. PvErs have a generally sour view toward sPvP.
viking stop following me . seriously its getting creepy. really.
he just got bad to the game. he is wvw player and im not the only person to say that sword is dead in wvw. really. do me a favor. u wanted to act mature and not call each other names fine. stop trolling me / other players. keep turning down a duel bc of ur “video graphics card” . and stop msging in response to me.
and kylar. NEVER conform. do what makes you happy and what you have fun with. just make sure you have a way of dealing with zergs. if u need practice or something im me in game.
viking you should duel the first guy that accepted a challenge on here. hes good
LightningBlaze.4913 we went halfsies roughly on about 15 duels. see how u match up lol.
I’m not following you. I post in more topics on the thief forums and give far more constructive feedback than you. I was pointing out the fact that you literally told him that his build sucked and to try your p/d build that’s already been ripped apart in a separate topic. I’m happy to duel you when my computer’s back up and running. It’s been 4 days, so stop acting like I’m the one avoiding a fight. I gave a simple sentence at the top calling you out then went on to discuss his potential options rather than write an entire post about you. I message you in response to your own messages, and to keep things like this off of the forums.
So please, do me a favor and stop responding. Calling me out and making false accusations does nothing but ruin your own name here on the forums where you’ve already lost plenty of credibility. Trying to turn every topic I happen to post alongside you into a heated debate over kittens does no good for the community and I don’t condone this behavior.
Sorry, Kylar; Some people are rediculous in their opinions.
It’s a pirate election by a council of pirates.
Secondly, I don’t know why Evon would even carry Kiel support banners in his gem store. If I were trying to win an election I’d burn them all in secret, give all who purchase Kiel banners Evon banners and say GG
.
Slow rank progression, large risk, virtually no reward.. The list could go on. Literally the only point to go past rank 20 is for essentially free 18-slot bags (20-slot at ranks 50+)
What risk?
The fact that you aren’t getting rewarded for a large portion of time spent compared to what you could be doing to earn real rewards in PvE or WvW.
I’m pretty sure it’s an attempt to balance the votes, as only the diehard voters will go out of their way to tip the scales in their votee’s favor.
As someone who plays both warrior and thief I have to disagree. You obviously play a greatsword warrior who can do amazing bursts in PvE compared to the thief.
They both have their own utility. In my personal opinion, the warrior is just so much more work in PvP compared to any other class, and lacks the stealth and escapability that the thief has. I don’t play burst on either my warrior or thief though. Like I said, they’re two different classes with entirely different utility and usefulness depending on the situation. Merging them would be infuriating.
Not to bash on TC, but it’s become a bit of a bandwagon server. The old TC community that’s friendly and helpful is no longer there, and WvW-addicts awaiting long queues plague the streets of Lion’s Arch with elitist values and shun new players. If you’re a veteran player if tell you to go right ahead and go to TC, but if you’re fairly new I’d advise you to stay away so that you aren’t scared off.
It’s because there’s no tangible rewards outside of the sPvP realm. Heck, I’d hop into sPvP quite a bit if I could change glory into karma or gold.. Or even if I could transfer it into exp so I could level alts through sPvP.
By the gods! This needs to happen!

Trav, you don’t play a sword build so please stop telling people their builds suck and advertising your own mediocre p/d troll build.
Kylar, with the “new” (to you) s/d mechanics, I’d opt for more boon sharing and initiative regen since Larcenist’s Strike is stupid OP with the ability to strip 6 boons in a matter of seconds. Travlane doesn’t know what he’s talking about with “escapability”, because precasting IS or using any stealth skill (just like any other thief build) is an easy escape.
Since Withdraw acts as a stun break, try that instead of HiS and throw in Swiftness on Dodge to maintain near-perma-swiftness as a S/D thief.
Just my take on the build and the direction you should go with it to conform to the meta, but you can do what you want with it. It’s your build.
^^ Oh? Did something change, or was it like that all along? Afaik, the reason server status goes from full to high or vice verse is because of online people. Isn’t that’s why guild can bandwagoned from JQ to SR?
There are a couple hundred thousand people registered to each server (considering the 3 million sales mark ANet hit last year, which has probably grown by now). A server will only say “full” if it’s just that. Several people leave each server per minute, leaving those servers at “very full”. It’s been this way since launch.
Server population isn’t based on whether or not people are online, just like a city’s population isn’t based on whether or not people are awake. It counts all who are native to that server, online or not.
The .exe is limited to 32-bit which limits the amount of RAM it uses to 2.0GB. 64-bit shouldn’t make a difference.
What days/times do you typically do guild missions?
If you remember GW1, we had to pray to the gods and pay a tithe in order to be transported to the UW or FoW. Since the gods have faded in lore, we aren’t able to return (aside from the 1 day a year when the Mad King is allowed to leave the underworld).
