The world would seem much smaller if movement speed were increased. In as much, the current speed acts as a time gate to content throughout the world.

This was also carefully balanced in terms of combat- effective weapon/skill ranges, swiftness, etc. If the speed were increased (especially combat speed), players would immediately have greater survivability and escapism, thus likely necessitating an increase in either weapon damage or range.

Imagine running alongside an elementalist using Ride The Lightning.

Trav, stop posting. You aren’t always correct (and very rarely are you actually correct).

You suffer from confirmation bias, which means that you look for and convey points that reinforce your own as serrations and ignore points that go against what you say. This has been an issue in every one of your posts.

Issue 1:
Solution: boon duration.

Issue 2:
Solution: Regeneration (which we have a trait for when gaining more than 2 stacks of bleeding, canceling out the bleeds).

Issue 3:
Solution: Don’t play zerker guardian.

Please don’t reply to this post and turn this thread into another thread that you continually instigate responses from people who continually prove you wrong in every post.

I really think that just moving us over to recharges without Initiative like everyone else would be a massive improvement for the Thief.

No, give Ini to every class, that would be an improvement. CD’s are boring, and also
just picking what is free to do stuff very easily.

And it would be an absolute balancing nightmare. We already have perma-stealth and evade-spam with Thieves. One can only imagine what nightmares other classes would inflict upon the game with similar abilities.
Necros chain-fearing everyone to their deaths, for one.

there is a reason why thief has no blocks no invl no protection no retaliation no aegis….no burning….lowest pool hp…most squishy…med armor…. umm what else am i forgetting? oh yeah their weapon skills cant really do anything to the enemy as far as KDs/Pushbacks/Pulls/Fears/Stone/freeze we do have 1 stun but its a prerequisite skill (needs stealth …TS)……

so that said…if necros had initiative system like us…the devs would have put all fear like skills on utilities only. :P not a really good comparison

Runes of Lyssa + Basilisk Venom: Problem solved. Good day.

This is how I fixed the Warrior community, but I replaced Basilisk Venom with Signet of Rage (cooldown reduced).

I’m not sure what your point is in that. Movement speed isn’t slow. Get used to it before you criticize it and compare game x to game y and attempt to “force” the developers to make their unique piece of art like production game y.

It is too hard to earn gold - A serious post

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Viking Jorun.5413

Viking Jorun.5413

I’m going to tell it like it is;

One’s perspective on gold is acquisition is directly tied to the price of items in the game, and how far one is from having that much gold (one’s personal rate of income)—and that’s exactly how it is in the real world—no brainer, but just think about this for a moment; There are lots of different people out there doing different things.

The Rich
‘Pro’ Trade Post flippers
Hardcore dungeon speed runners
Real-world wealthy gem buyers
One-time (or more) lucky RNG winners of high-priced items

The middle-to-low income class
Everyone else

If you’re not in The Rich category of gamer, you will always “have to work quite a lot for [your] gold”. There is no way around this, not here in GW2 nor in the real world.

And finally, and this is an important concept—even if there was some ‘magical’ way for you to get more gold (as a “middle-to-low income class” gamer) the same would apply to everyone else as well, and prices for everything would naturally increase accordingly, and so you and everyone else would be in no different a situation.

Quoted for truth.

Just from an observer perspective, I see the meta shifting from conditions to high-removal mobility in the near future. You should expect to see sword builds start popping up to counter the mobility/Condi meta that’s forming.

Viking Jorun.5413

Even though I’m the last person to main S/D in WvW, it works fine for me. I don’t even have more than 5 points in shadow arts. I roam freely, can get away when I want, accomplish what I want to do which is get lots of bags/WXP in zergs thanks to the shortbow I pack and able to solo stuff like sentries, camps, frogs etc. It does well for 1v1 and skirmishing with a small group which is obvious since it is a skirmishing weapon. It does what I need. Obviously you probably need more skill to roll with a low-stealth build but honestly I haven’t really used any stealth builds because I don’t really like that kinda playstyle.

I mean yesterday I was roaming…with 2 warriors, 1 mesmer, and 1 guardian. Everytime they wiped I got away…easily. I even killed people and then escaped. I basically got away twice from FA mini-zerg and the third time I killed this same warrior 3 times (rallied 3 times -.-") and still almost got away from the zerg. Thief escapability is awesome even without D/P perma stealth.

My philosophy is that a thief should never lose a fight. They can forfeit by running away stealthed, but they shouldn’t ever get stomped unless you’re zerged out of the blue.

Happy With Your Characters?

Generally I take hours in character creation making he perfect character. I start by deciding the lore behind them, or what their purpose is in Tyria, then build off of that archetype. Personality plays a big role in the way I create a character. An old grumpy charr? Check. Noble human lady? Check. Inquest Asura? Check. Charr commander? Check. Bandit lady? Check.

Those are just the basis, and back on GW2G years prior to launch I wrote guides on naming your character according to race and lore.

Call me a lore junkie, but that’s how I am.

Is there anything Support can do? I’ve sent in a ticket, but I’m told ArenaNet cannot and will not do anything to assist me in this crisis.

I’ve posted this outside of my support ticket because Gaile has helped me out and ultimately resolved every ticket I’ve put in, and I’m surprised at the lack of help I’ve received from the normally extremely helpful ArenaNet Support Team.

EDIT: Had I not spent real money on this, it wouldn’t have been an issue. I can supply the $100 charge screenshot from my bank account and the purchase code if need be.

the particular build i run…and well for that matter most condi builds can add 7 condis on in the first 2-3 seconds.

But they’ve completely blown their conditions on you initially. Bring Infusion of Shadow and stealth immediately afterward, then restart the fight and play smart while watching your conditions.

If you are going to run a shadow arts build in tpvp you are not going to be contesting a point or pressuring an enemy in stealth. In wvw or hot joins, sure. Tpvp, no.

You give up too much damage and rely on stealth for healing condi removal which allows the other team to cap points on you and simply ignore you. The other team wants you to stealth because that means they are putting pressure on you and you can’t do anything beneficial in stealth.

I beg to differ. I have my playstyle and do quite well in tPvP as a condition thief running in Shadow Arts. You may not believe me, or will ask for a video, but my job with my build isn’t to roam. I know fully well what it means to bunker a point and I do a kitten good job at it when all odds are stacked against me (5v1, anyone?). When you learn to play the way I do, you’re just as effective in stealth as you are out of it, and sometimes you have to adapt to maintain control of a point using only the initial stealth to remove 2 conditions at a time. I don’t find tPvP any more challenging than some hot join servers. People will sit there and attempt to kill you the entire match at their home point even if they have it while your team keeps the other two points. Call it a troll build, but it’s the way I play in tPvP, and it’s highly effective.

The second you stealth your enemy starts gaining control over the point. All he had to do is outlast you through a few stealth and he takes the point from you. If he knocks you off a few times, even easier. You obviously don’t know what bunkering a point means. It means holding the point as yours while enemies are assaulting it and not letting it go neutral or over to enemy control. Any thief who fights in stealth will let the point go neutral and eventually they will cap. Thus, losing points for your team. While guardian, ranger, ele, engi can do the same thing you do but much better without having to let it get decaped. Most teams have a bunker for two points. They don’t care if your troll build spends the whole match not decaping but keeping thier bunker on point. You are the one getting trolled not them. Because that means your team only has 4 other people to hold 2 points while thier team continuously holds the point you are assaulting. They have 4 people and they only need to hold 1 point. I would accept this argument if at any point you ever gained control over the point, but you don’t.

Obviously, you don’t understand tpvp. Maybe you play with 20% group or something. Condi thief had absolutely no place in tpvp, especially not trying to solo a point. If anything they would be useful in a team fight, but not as useful as s/d or burst.

Do you see any condi thieves in the setup on any of the high ranked teams? Nope. There is a reason for that. You see burst and s/d and occasionally the 0/30/30/10/0 d/p far point pusher build. Which is as burst as you can get with survivability. The only way that build works though is with a teammate to help you, because like I said earlier. You can’t contest a point in stealth. So you need a teammate to do that whole you’re making use of your shadow arts.

I’m not the best thief, but not the worst. Highest I’ve been ranked is like 656. Normally I’m in the 95% to low 900’s. I have played against complete noobs and über amazing premades. I’ve played every build in tpvp on thief and hot joins. I’m not telling you because I’m guessing. It’s from experience.

Yet I used this build in Team Legacy when we were neck in neck with Team Paradigm. I know that I lost the point in stealth. It takes 5 ticks to lose a point, which means I can stealth four times if I’m playing my cards right. It’s purely situational, but you don’t know everything about tPvP. Sorry. Maybe the times have changed with the condition meta, but back in the day when I had my team, we did well, considering the name we made for ourselves. :P

My build isn’t centered around stealth. I have other forms of condition removal, and stealth is a “breather” mechanic for when things get too heated. If I gain initial control over their home point, they don’t get it back. That’s why this build is a tournament build.

Exhaustion

Viking Jorun.5413

To everyone: He isn’t suggesting a change to heartseeker. The skill works as intended on its own. The issue, and I’m sure a lot of you have experienced this, is that tapping skill 2 in quick succession results in more than 1 attack when in the heat of a fight, wasting both your initiative and resulting in accusations of a lack of skill. Exhaustion would need a lot of work to only limit the spamability of heartseeker in combat (since it’s frequently used to cross large distances out of combat).

This would nerf a lot more viable builds than it would help to decrease heartseeker spamming. Condition D/D thieves who use death blossom (their only source of bleed aside from caltrops), the infamous cripspam s/d thieves, boon strip s/d thieves and s/p control thieves would all suffer.

I do think that they need to increase the after cast on heartseeker, because as of now it’s already a pretty spammy move even when you don’t intend on hitting it more than once.

I do urge you all to adapt to a condition build and try it out in sPvP, as that’s where the meta has shifted.

Ranking us from 1-8, 1 being Warrior and 8 being OP, I’d give us a solid 4. We’re pretty well balanced as it is, but most people seem to think that thieves’ place will always be heavy burst damage support, no matter where the meta goes.

So try a condition build. I guarantee that you’ll enjoy it.

Not true. Condition duration also benefits from traits that go something like, “+10% damage against bleeding foes”.

Bleed is so easy to apply that even with 0% condition duration, you can still take advantage of that bonus in damage.

Again, if the condition deals damage, you want it shorter duration but potent.

You don’t have to sacrifice one to get the other, though.
