I’m extremely attached to my character. It may be because he’s a fluffy charr warrior with flowers for footsteps, and it may also be because of the /sleep emote, but I find that I’m very close to my character.
Run dagger storm with Signet of Malice in WvW. All of your questions will be answered.
I hate when people think it’s “without limits”. There’s a 12-second cap on your invisibility. In order to perma stealth you have to give up 2 trait lines and 3 utility slots. You’re useless as a perma stealth thief, contrary to what most people believe. You waste your entire initiative bar in attempts to use a leap finisher though your smoke field. If you have issues killing perma-stealth thieves, you’re just a bad player. I’m sorry, but there is no excuse.
The asura and sylvari will probably show up later. I bet they both will be male since our current party has been opposite of Destiny’s Edge so far.
They’d need to add 2 more professions for them to have nothing in common with DE.
I don’t know! Everyone seems to run around telling me how awesome my golden charr warrior with flowers everywhere is <.<
While on the subject, has anyone else seen that new forum bug where a user’s name in a quote gets replaced with “kittkittkittkittkittkittkittkittkittkittkittkittkittkittkittkitt” ad nauseum? THAT’S annoying.
Just happened to me today. I don’t know if some people’s names interfere with the “=quote” part or what.
Actually there’s a Season of the Colossus in Tyria. It’s the earth equivalent of Winter, associated with the element earth in Tyria and celebrated as Grenth’s season in Elona.
The last day of the Season of the Colossus is Wintersday, where a battle occurs each year between Grenth and Dwayna. Dwayna (and Lyss/Llya/Lyssa) represents the Season of the Zephyr, which is the earth equivalent of spring.
This is probably connected to the lore behind the Season of the Colossus. Remember: everything in the fractals of the mists has happened in the past, or a fragment of the past. There are no futures in Fractals. It’s clearly back-lore of some kind that we’ve yet to discover.

Ha. He thinks Shattered is impossible.
Let’s like at the Yakslapper title track:
- It takes 1,000,000 yak kills in WvW to gain the title Yakslapper.
- After nearly a year of hardcore WvW I have 5,740 yaks slain.
If my math is right, it will be another 199 years before I achieve the Yakslapper title.
AoE’s make the shattered achievement easy. Use them.
It’s just like the warrior:
– low skill floor; anyone can learn it.
– high skill ceiling; it takes a lot of dedication and practice to be the best.
People complain about warriors in PvE. Thieves are the WvW/PvP equivalent.
This is why thieves keep getting nerfed. I’m tired of it. You can all complain about how “OP” thieves are, but in reality you don’t understand them. When I tell you to learn to play one to learn to beat one, I mean it. We don’t need anymore of these “thief OP nerf plz omg” threads. Our name as thieves is already soiled by people who play the class solely for the stupid high burst damage, and every nerf to backstab thieves is a nerf to every other thief build. Please learn to play a thief before you make your next post about us in this forum.
Tired of it,
~Kid Legacy, Team Legacy [TL]EDIT: Balance is an illusion. Zacchary.6183, a fellow thief made an excellent post not a few days ago describing the difference between true imbalance and cyclical imbalance. It really is a matter of L2P. Get over it.
ALSO: Your screenshot shows the result of combat over 1 minute, not 1 second.
" WAHHHHH I cant stand the thought of my class getting balanced!!" Face it, they do their job of kill too darn well, too well, uncouterably well. Its not fun to fight them, even if they were to be “balanced”, which they arent.
At the “ALSO”, were you droped as a…….ahh forget it. Look at the time, there is such as a thing called CLOCK KEEPS GOING, the gith happened at the end of 7:00, hence why it goes all the way to 7:01, if you look closer at the CD of the shield and look it up, loo at the current time on the mini you will see that it says 7:02, you make the math, 75 secs CD on the shield and used it right before the backstab wich is when he went into stealth for 1 sec
That doesn’t mean that the thief did it in less than 1 second. I highly doubt that he was at full health when he was attacked by the thief. A smart backstab thief never goes after an enemy with full health (unless they’re up leveled) just as a lion never goes after a fully-grown gazelle. It goes after the injured and the young. We only see a small portion of the combat log, and judging by his claim to be wearing PTV, I’d say that he had just stepped away from his zerg while a roaming thief was picking off stragglers and injured. Just because a thief can burst you down doesn’t mean they’re OP. A warrior can deal 33k damage with 100 Blades and combined with a stun lock there’s nothing you can do about it. Nobody ever says, “OMG WARRIORS OP.” There’s plenty you can do about a backstab thief. Learn it.
Thats weird, I could never get my dps over 7k even though I am using a zerker amulet.
The damage difference between PvP and PvE is just that. On other players I was never able to achieve more than 18k, but mobs could take upwards of 35k damage with 100b, 25 stacks of might and 25 stacks of vulnerability with zerk’d everything. A zerker warrior in PvP can take out the keep lord in Foefire in just a few rotations to stack might and vulnerability and one 100b combo. If being able to kill the keep lord in less than 10 seconds isn’t stronger than a thief’s backstab damage I don’t know what is.
i would argue take 20% maybe more off the damage in stealth
make the reveald last 6 or 9 seconeds( when reveald where 4 sec people complained that the rotation where wrong and 3 fit very well but if 3 fits then 6 fits to just takes dubble the amount of time to get acces to stealth agien)
buff there damage outside stealth with 10-15%(with a nerf to heartseeker tho but not damage wise)reworke the smoke + leap combo to grant blind when hitting a target instead of stealth
Are you a game balance coordinator? I don’t think you should be throwing random numbers out there if you aren’t.
I love how every stealth thread turns into a thief QQ thread. They DO have stealth removal traps that are EASY to place in combat.
Colin Johanson: “We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one enjoys that. No one finds it fun. "
Congratulations. You can take things out of context just like every other politician.
Here’s the whole quote:
Colin Johanson: “When you look at the art in our game, you say ‘Wow, that’s visually stunning. I’ve never seen anything like that before,’ and then when you play the combat in our game, you say ‘Wow, that’s incredible. I’ve never seen anything like that.’ In most games, you go out, and you have really fun tasks, occasionally, that you get to do, and the rest of the game is this boring grind to get to the fun stuff. ‘I swung a sword. I swung a sword again. Hey! I swung it again.’ That’s great. We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one enjoys that. No one finds it fun. We want to change the way that people view combat.”He was talking about combat. Learn to read/listen. Kids these days, they hear what they want.
So as long as combat is fun it’s okay if the rest of the game is a boring grindfest?
But it isn’t. Only the skins are, really. You don’t EVER have to grind for Ascended gear. The nature of time hating is the fact that you log in, perform a task once a day for X days and get your reward for something fairly simple, so if you think ascended gear is a grind that’s a pretty sad excuse. The only GRIND in the game is for skins. That’s the nature of horizontal progression. If you think GW2 is grindy in any way, play Guild Wars 1. That game moved mountains in its enginuity for removing “grind”. You aren’t forced to repeat the same task over and over. Simply playing the game rewards you as it would should you CHOOSE to grind for gold/karma/etc. They’ve put Diminishing Returns in the game for a reason; so that you’re forced to not grind. You’ve got so many options to progress yourself in the game that this concept you call grind is a sad excuse for not enjoying the game because of an entitled opinion that you absolutely must have skin Y.
If you don’t want to look like an idiot, please don’t reply to this post.
AoE will solve all of your problems. Players like you tunnel vision to one target and don’t see the thief that just stealthed 5 feet from you and make the perfect targets for ganking.
I’m an Asuran with a purple Afro and a blue Dorito. Everyone in the whole game knows me.
Ferrum Blacktide doesn’t know you :x

It still pains me to see people think invisibility=invulnerability. It just shows how many bad players are out there.
“How do you distinguish yourself in this game?”
1- Create the largest sized norn or charr the sliders will allow,
2- Find the most inappropriate armour mix and match,
3- Dye armour with the most miss-matched colour scheme that will make eyes bleed
4- Stand in front of the bank in LA
I didn’t do half of those and people on my server still know me.. Let me fix that.
- Create the largest size Charr or Norn the slider will allow.
- Get BAMF armor.
- Get a commander tag.
- Get a legendary that isn’t stereotypical (I have Kudzu on my large golden charr warrior).
- Stand in front of the bank in your offtime while you aren’t leading your server to victory on WvW with your commander tag on.
Side note – if you get a commander tag, don’t be ‘that guy’ who stands in LA all day and never helps out his server. Be sure to take advice from other commanders (I was the first commander on my server, so I had to bring my experience from being with the Titan Alliance early into launch and in beta).
Even to this day, Arah Path 4 takes time, dedication and a lot of coordination. If the rest of the game were Arah path 4, however, nobody but the hardcore crowd would bother playing the game. If you can’t find your peace in Fractals 70 or soloing Arah runs, perhaps the game isn’t for you. I know for a fact that tPvP isn’t “casual” by any means, so give it a go.
I think this would be a great idea. It would also stop me from having to go get another HoM stone every time I wanted to look at HoM skins or get something from it.
Your intent may not have been a thread directing the devs to nerf thieves, but that’s what it’s become. There’s a high risk factor to every fight when playing glass, yet people don’t see it. Invisibility =/= invulnerability. A successful attack against a stealthed GC thief does significant damage and they often cripple under heavy AoE (which the ele has a lot of!).
Stop calling for an all-out nerf to thieves. In Street Fighter did you spam buttons against every opponent you fought against? You probably didn’t get far in the game if you did. Learning to fight other classes is the same way. A simple dodge can mess up a glass thief’s entire rotation and at that point, they have very little initiative left. Your ele is obviously as glassy as they come judging by how quickly you went down and you’re exactly the type of player glass cannon thieves excel in killing: slow, unresponsive, and definitely NOT wearing any sort of PTV gear.
Had you built for more survivability, that thief would never have had a shot at killing you while you were in the midst of your group. Don’t blame the thief for your failure. Blame yourself and get better instead of being a bad player whining about being ganked on the forums.
The people claiming GW2 was “easy” from day 1 obviously didn’t play at launch. Does nobody remember the CONSTANT whining about how the game was “too hard”, especially exploitable dungeons? Had ArenaNet not nerfed the dungeons to allow more players to access them and decreased the difficulty of DEs, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.
Edited the topic sentence to reflect the actual purpose of this thread, not to describe things that are already in game that are personally rewarding which is highly subjective. I’m looking for fresh ideas that could be taken into consideration.
On my guardian I never find myself spamming 1 in ZvZ fights.
Anyone who thinks they can spam 1 and win against a coordinated group is a fool.I call Bullshait.
My guild on Kaineng and later FA, The Vengeful Blades [TVB] were a highly coordinated group of players. We weren’t afraid to rush in and put ourselves in harm’s way and that may be what made us stand out compared to most havoc teams. We’d take on groups far greater than our small 5-10 man havoc teams and slowly take down enemy zergs. It’s called focus targeting. Lock a single player down and stomp them as quickly as possible then either retreat or move onto the next target. I can tell you that most of the zergs we fought spammed 1. Most of them also lost.
I’ll direct you to http://www.twitch.tv/nightmarenet to see TVB in action. Have at it.

Topic length barriers are too short. The topic should have said, “What type of content would reward skill over time spent?”
The general basis of the topic is this: time and time again I see players in the forums begging the developers to create content that rewards player skill over time spent, but having worked as a character and environment artist on several Indy games and seen the ideation process first hand, I’m unable to comprehend rewarding content based on skill rather than time spent. It seems time spent is the nature of the MMORPG.
I understand that MOBAs like Dota 2 and LoL reward skill will true horizontal progression and combat timing ultimately determines a player’s “skill”, so I’m asking you as players to help formulate ideas to do this. I’ve gone over the idea of skill over time spent and how the developers may implement such a system into Guild Wars 2 to no avail, so I understand where the frustration as a developer pondering this could come from.
Let’s help the creative designers out a bit: How would you as a player feel rewarded for your skill rather than the time you spend on a certain task?
(edited by Viking Jorun.5413)
I hope by shallow you mean extremely complex and that no fight between class A and class B will ever turn out the same because it’s extremely reliant on build and skill as it was in Guild Wars 1.
People often confuse Player A beating Player B 100% of the time with Class A will beat Class B 100% of the time, which is obviously false.
On my thief, mesmer, warrior, necro, guardian, engineer, ranger and ele I never find myself spamming 1 in ZvZ fights. I’m constantly utilizing my AoEs at the right time to tag, apply conditions and immobilize targets. Anyone who thinks they can spam 1 and win against a coordinated group is a fool.
I alopogize for my erratic typing. It’s late.
Think CoD sniper: you’re on a 30 kill streak when BOOM. Headshot. Do you scream, “AMG SADFACE SNIPERS OP”?
The thief is the same way, if you build for it.

I’d like to use [Sneak Attack] more than once every 15-20 seconds, thanks. Not all thieves are D/D….. seriously.

Don’t be a build kitten like me ;-;. You’ll be broke all the time and nobody will lend you money after you’ve borrowed (and payed back!) gold to get X gear or Y skin.
Well, if you hand me 250 charged lodestones I’ll artificially deflate the market with dummy stock thereby decreasing the overall price.
I play a thief so I must use 5, f1, 1 and proceed to use 2,2,2,2,2 until you’re dead, right?
At first I thought this was some PETA thing that had nothing to do with GW2 ._.
Well then! Captain Jayne is the only pirate champion. Looks like I’ll be farming!
Let the songs be heard! Now to go kill every pirate champion in the game…
Tyria is the source of the 70’s. Why should we care when “the man” is out to get us?!
You move your entire account for 1800 gems.
Ew… A thief wearing plated armor? No thank you.
I actually would love that snipe skill. Although, charging it up from full initiative with 15 in Trickery would result in… +30% damage, 4200 range (WTF OP QQ HAX), and 5% bonus crit chance. Coupled with Hidden Killer and Ghillie Suit (or any stealth) and assuming you’re zerking all out would result in an undetectable critical hit for 6,603.92 damage against an opponent with 2000 armor. When I was doing the math I thought it would be more OP, but in all reality it could use double the base damage to even be on the same playing field as the warrior’s Kill Shot… Or backstab for that matter, and being rooted would justify it rightly, since you can hit far more with backstab while not rooted every ~4 secondsz
It’s a retextured Fellblade. This makes me somewhat mad if they’re going to start retexturing our hard-earned HoM rewards for the masses to have.
At least on the bright side we can be all but assured that these will be locked behind RNG chest and most of us will never actually see one. Seriously I think that at most I’ve seen maybe three Fused weapons on my server, and a grand total of ZERO of every other RNG weapon skin. Never seen a Southsun skin, never seen a Jade Dragon skin, and certainly never seen an Aetherized Skin.
I have an Aetherized Pistol for my latest thief build, but other than that I’ve never gotten an RNG item that I haven’t bought from the TP.
SoM is fantastic when you’re using AoE fields that “tick” like Caltrops and poison fields. SoM heals per person standing in the field up to the AoE cap, so the 194 I get out of it per tick is now close to 1k per tick when pitted in a 1v5, or a 1vX with NPCs/minions. I’ve found that Signet of Malice isn’t viable on its own due to our lack of sustained Hits Per Second, so you either need to couple it with Shadow’s Rejuvination or Assassin’s Reward. Think Lowell’s Unicorn build.
Recently, SoM also received a 33% base heal buff. There’s no excuse to think it not viable, especially in Shortbow and Ricochet builds where you’re hitting up to 3 targets each autoattack, tripling your heal.
I haven’t tested it myself, but rumor has it that Thieves Guild and Ambush minions also tick your HPS, giving you more leeway in a fight.
Hope I helped!
The ‘guaranteed reward chest’ from world events is character bound, so I’m going to assume the dungeons will be the same way.

It sounds almost like a revitalized Heroes’ Ascent. Me like.
Horizontal progression doesn’t involve handouts.
Does anyone see a similarity between the “Crown Pavilion” concept and the Eye of the North?
I’m just mad that I have to buy and hold on to 3 stacks of them for a month if I want a full set of celestial gear.
By far, the best name I’ve seen was a thief named Cull Me Maybe (prior to the removal of culling in WvW.)
