GoM is by far the largest PvE community in the game right now. The next closest ranked “Very High” population server is rank 9, and GoM is rank 19 for WvW, telling you that our player base is either just standing in LA or doing PvE.
They mentioned how they were going to increase the profitability of champion drops in Orr, Southsun and Frostgorge in the blog post.
We used to be able to edit the command line of the Gw2.exe with a “-useoldlauncher” command. This was removed about a month after launch for some unknown reason.
Considering you can only do this without other players around it isn’t too OP, unless your opponents are new to the game. A single AoE CC will ruin your day since the stealth cap is only 12 seconds.
High HP is inherently good against conditions because they don’t tick a percentage of your health and armor isn’t an issue because conditions ignore armor. Any good s/x thief can beat a p/d thief using their IS, teleports, and stuns/dazed correctly. Each time you teleport using sword 2 you remove a condition. Since p/d thieves have limited access to more than 2 conditions this puts a lot of pressure, especially when you’re built for initiative regen to do this repeatedly. Sword thieves are an inherent direct counter to the p/d thief, and I’ve explained why above.
Define griefing, please. If it’s WvW JP griefing there isn’t anything you can do about it but wait them out or gather a force large enough to overcome the griefers.
Run s/x with a high health pool. He’ll either give up or die trying every time.
I must be a pro charr then, because there isn’t one jumping puzzle that I haven’t completed on my charr warrior who is max height.

Here’s the deal: in order to go to Cantha, we must go through Elona, which is ruled by Palawa Joko who won’t be too happy about foreigners coming into his country and most likely will have to overthrow his regime. To get to Elona, we’ll have to go through the Crystal Desert which is blocked by Kralkatorrik who we’d have to fight in order to go anywhere south of the Crystal Desert.
Shortcut to Cantha: we could always sail or fly to Cantha via the ocean, but Bubbles is out there somewhere preventing all naval and possibly air travel south of Tyria, so anywhere we want to go is blocked by an Elder Dragon, then by Palawa Joko, and then by the Ministry of Purity in Cantha.
Going north is a suicide mission as both Primordis and Jormag reside there, East is prevented by The Scar, west is the Tyrian Pinensula wherein the 6th Elder Dragon Mordremoth resides, so travel to there is impossible.
Good luck getting out of Tyria my friend.
Spam 2: have an army at your side. I love it. We’ll take all of the QQ off of mesmers!
I don’t think this should be an exploit. When you get out of the instance and use the scroll you can do the same thing. What’s the difference, really?
Being on GoM, I can say that size doesn’t matter. We’re rank 19 and full of hardcore PvErs.
There you go again with those back lashing comments that repeat what I’ve already stated I’m not, and that don’t matter. I kindly asked you to back down, to let this thread die. I’d like to hear others opinions on this, because clearly you have no sense of direction in your posts. You claim to be mature yet go on to talk about how I am in your eyes via name-calling and self-entitlement.
You call me a kiddo, yet the only one I see here pointing fingers and calling names is you. Every time you reply in the manner you’ve been it ruins your credibility more and more. I and many others challenged you to duels which you haven’t followed up on, and we continually point out flaws in each post of yours while you persist to continue.
I ask that you apologize to myself, DrYamak, and Torniker and end this discussion, because clearly it isn’t going anywhere but downhill for you or any of us. I’ll be the first to apologize to you for starting this, and I expect no less from you. Any rebuttal will show the entire thief community how childish you are, so take the high road, apologize, and stop posting like the rest of us. There’s no point wasting any more energy on this thread.
I like my female thief dressed up bandit-like. I disapprove.

there is no glory in solo death.
I don’t believe an ally should have the ability to erase what an opponent has created. Which is what healing is in a nutshell. It’s an eraser.
I believe allies should have a toolbox that shields me from taking damage. If you want real skill to come into play; death needs to have a serious consequence. Death may be temporarily avoided only if an ally can skillfully shield you from a killing blow.
Running up to someone; healing and reviving them not only makes no sense at all; but is the province of unskilled players.
You couldn’t be more wrong. Certain professions excel in punishing res-rushing, specifically those who bring heavy damage support. Many situations when one person goes down can result in their entire team going down when attempting to revive their allies. It’s an active decision you have to make and adds more to the playing field. If you aren’t able to make the stomp, maybe you should try learning every profession’s downed state and adapt to it.
It’s not death. Just because your health bar went to zero and is replaced by a set of skills to potentially give you a second wind doesn’t mean that it’s broken. More often than not you can easily escape death, and quite a few builds for both my warrior and thief have revolved around the downed state to allow me to fight more than 1 opponent under glassier conditions. When you find your niche in the game, you cannot discount the fact that you have a downed state. Learn to use it properly and the game will have worlds more layers of combat complexity.
I didn’t just learn to use it; I abuse it. Just like any poorly designed mechanic before it.
-I can revive players while invulnerable.
-I can tag 30 targets and have back to back rallies.
-I can revive someone downed while taking damage from multiple players.
-I have witnessed dozens of players simultaneously rally off of 1 downed target in WvW.I eagerly wait the next MMO that doesn’t incorporate these casual PVE rulesets.
You don’t tag off of downed players anymore. This was fixed in a recent PvP update to slow rank progression but also affected WvW.
Secondly, you only have 3 downs within a certainly long period of time before you’re instantly dead.
Lastly, if you’d care to screenshot both your /age and /deaths across all of your characters that’d be great, because I guarantee you that you’ll contradict your own point of “death is escapable every time”.
I personally would not like to see in-game mail pop up for it, but perhaps some sort of added UI feature that’s subtle (but flashes on occasion until you verify that you’ve seen it, like the party join window). .
I’m sorry but no. I don’t want anything flashing on my screen that isn’t part of my game play. Something flashing on my screen until I verify I saw it would actually be much more obnoxious than an in game mail. Do we really need more stuff taking up space on our screen?
I said subtle for a reason. There are a thousand ways ANet could make it non-obtrusive. Use your imagination.
I’m American as well, but I lack the superiority complex you and most of the thief community have. It’s my job to quell that so that any newcomers aren’t scared off by the obvious kitten issues the majority of forum thieves have. You may have a lot of posts, Travlane but the majority of them don’t rest well against the opinions of others. I think it’s cute that you try to scare me with hollow threats and belittlement when you’ve nothing to show for it yourself. I started a seed and it grew. No post since I questioned your “best overall build” has been anything but condescending and rude, and it’s solely your fault from your reactions to each and every post we’ve made. I can barely understand a word you say between the lack of sentence structure and massive inquiry of grammar errors, yet you insult our education like some child. You ignore the fact that I’m a member of Team Legacy, the #1 PvP guild and a fantastic WvW guild which pioneered tactics and led the entire scene for the first 5 months of the game before Team Paradigm took the stand after our official leave of Guild Wars 2. Having that background, I advise you to take what I say very seriously, because it’s a hell of a lot more than what you’ve got. I don’t care about your build, because it’s redundant. The fact of the matter is you insinuate your faculties to give you this inherent right as some “master”. No matter how many hours you’ve played, you don’t know it all. I don’t claim to know everything about our entire class because there are literally hundreds of thousands of combinations that may or may not work for different situations. I asked at the beginning of my posting in this thread: please stop claiming to be a master, because clearly you aren’t. It weighs on new thieves browsing and lurking, and frankly makes all of us look bad.
Your build doesn’t matter, nor your skill. There is a certain etiquette when on the forums and I’m asking you in the kindest manner to use it. Thank you.
How much poison going on in this thread isn’t good or constructive. I personally would not like to see in-game mail pop up for it, but perhaps some sort of added UI feature that’s subtle (but flashes on occasion until you verify that you’ve seen it, like the party join window). Guild Wars 2 does need a lot of work before it can become an esport. Primarily, my belief in what’s hindering it is the fact that the spectator camera is so limiting. Had we been given the tools that ANet uses for their floating camera carousels in cutscenes and had control over it, the eSports scene might be a lot more interesting. It may sound like conflicting arguments, but we’re working toward eSports. The longevity and overall popularity of the game is dependent on it.
Did one of you hook up with the other’s girl or something or are you all just fighting to see who can be the most immature.
As to the original post. I tried the spec in WvW, but still think that a 5/0/30/15/20 set up works better FOR ME. Even though the spec isn’t ideal for me, I respect that you posted it here.
Exactly why I stopped posting. Threads like this aren’t good depictions of the thief community when new members come in and want to learn something other than who has the larger kitten (which really doesn’t matter, because North Americans have this problem thinking that they’ll become Internet famous or something by playing a game.)

I love seeing this thread pop up every once in a while to let the devs know we still care.
A bit of speculation on Cantha from the end of GW1-today:
- Back in GW1, we underwent the Winds of Change which brought up the Ministry of Purity. Events led to the eventual “purge” of Cantha and all non-Canthans including Tengu were exiled from the continent and it was sealed off entirely for nearly 250 years and counting.
- Along comes E3 2013 with Daniel Dociu and his Crossroads piece for an “unannounced” game. At the time it didn’t make much sense but the influences were clearly Asian, although quite futuristic.
- Come the Republic of Sky Pirates patch and “futuristic” pirates emerge from the sky in airships that aren’t speculated to be simple stolen Pact airships, and their leader, Mai Trin, is clearly Canthan or of Canthan descent.
I may be making connections that don’t exist, but I have reason to believe that during the 250 years that Cantha secluded itself from the world it went through a massive technological era while the rest of the world maintained a somewhat medieval stance technologically (only recently did the pact even invent flying ships, when clearly stated in the personal story that they thought flight was impossible before combining human, charr and Asuran technology). It may be wishful thinking, but I suspect that ArenaNet has Cantha in their master plan, and are pulling our leg with no news on the subject. Also, every concept Daniel Dociu makes public seems to make it in game one way or another
Two words: Mule Toons.
Haha, I’m pretty sure that was me, although I run 0/0/30/20/20. People usually remember me (or steal the build!)

Methinks we need to do more research into the Thaumanova Reactor explosion.
#TeamKiel
I see what you did there, but clearly this is Abaddon’s doing.

Abaddon For President – 2013
To be fair, he did face tank the supervisor with a pistol.
Methinks some textures got mismapped…
Nade engies make this problem huge..
Yes! And then we’ll just have 10 trumpets constantly playing to increase our boon duration to 100%! In return for infiniswiftness, we all have to learn to play with our speakers off!
/sarcasm
I dare you to type /rank in GW2.
/thread?
Alright guys, as terrible as some people are at math this thread is getting out of hand.
sigh time to get a second mortgage….
Not sure this has to do with anything presented in the thread but I’m sorry for your troubles I guess.
Uhh I think he meant that as joke, meaning that he’s going to become broke trying to craft a Legendary because of this new change it’s going to get.
Lol I figured it was some sort of joke, just not 100% as to what o.0
Seeing as I’d much rather buy gems than grind, and each legendary costs about $1000 in conversion costs, I’ll need a second mortgage before I can afford a legendary of each armor piece, weapon and trinket.
*sigh* time to get a second mortgage....
Remember! A vote for Evon is a vote for Abaddon! Vore for Evon Gnashblade today!
I know that when I run my condition build as opposed to my DPS build, our zerg can be all the way from north camp to center quaggan before I kill an arrow cart. Just putting that out there.
sure thats fine. but like i said. you usually kill siege in larger groups/zergs bc nobody is dropping siege for 1-3 people :P so i dont see this as a downfall. and in a zerg setting its only saving a milli second
Typically I never run in zergs unless I’m leveling a lowbie. I build for solo roaming and havoc team play, so my havoc builds compliment my team’s builds, and theirs mine. Under normal circumstances I’d never stop to destroy siege and just let others do it, but with the WXP update it’s hard to pass those 5 points.
I know that when I run my condition build as opposed to my DPS build, our zerg can be all the way from north camp to center quaggan before I kill an arrow cart. Just putting that out there.
just to prove a point ill go d/d
now we all know thats one of the worst builds out there. but ill run it
ps . when i say worst builds i mean less all around balanced and one of the 2 least played builds.
Full burst? And I bet you’ll run basilisk venom too.
which build is trav gonna use for dueling? this P/D build or D/P perma stealth cheese?
Either way I guarantee you he’ll keep running, stealthing and healing to full HP and essentially resetting the fight until he can win.
What exactly is the point of running P/P+P/P exactly? You still eat initiative all the same.
Guys, in the PvE community, “soloing” a dungeon just means that you killed all of the trash mobs. In CoF p1, CoE and any other dungeon that requires multiple players to take part in getting to the next level it’s okay if they do so and immediately leave party and the “soloist” continues without further aid.
Midway through the fight with the necro you had some help from an NPC’S guard who didn’t target you that whole "3v1". Had you been the focus that entire fight I don’t think it would have ended how it did.
Trav I’ll duel you next week when I have time to stream, that way if you chicken out and don’t post the video because you lost, I’ll have proof in case you decide to tell these people otherwise.
Trav won’t post the guild, funny :P I’m in Team Legacy, but that doesn’t make me some beast PvPer. Flawed credentials are flawed.
In all honesty from an economic standpoint this will increase the price of precursors, seeing as they’re time gated through the new ascended crafting and also require other things that the player isn’t going to want to do. Essentially, they’re a mini legendary and will require highly dedicated play. Using the MF will still be a viable option if you’re lucky.
I’m quite happy about this. As they stated they are time hating the crafting so that players “create and maintain their own economy”, so this will not only make crafting profitable but also infers that the armors and weapons are tradable, meaning you can purchase a full set (probably for an absurd amount of gold) on the trading post.
I’d like to verify that those of us who’ve already transmuted our legendaries won’t be locked out.
And if you want a duel, i am always up. And i bet all gold of the world you cant kill me. It is impossible for you, i guarantee.
All you need to do to beat a Condi thief is run sword period. Your build could give two kittens less.
I first heard about this about 2 months after Fractals was released, right after they started allowing players to return to fractals after a disconnect. This kind of behavior is unacceptable.
That’s why I haven’t released my build, and have no plans on doing so. I’ll release other builds until I die, though.
now we all know thats one of the worst builds out there. but ill run it
