A few farmers will get less keys per week and the whole player base gets more from random drops, i dont see how this will impact bl skin prices in a bad way.

So, do you think that the majority of the BL weapon skins are from people buying keys and not key farming? If most skins are from key farmers then this is a serious hit to supply. It takes on average 30 keys to get one skin. Since I sincerely doubt they will be dropping at a rate of 30 keys per player per year, then they aren’t going to be replacing even one competed set of key farming per year. The average key farmers who does his weekly key farm is going to get maybe two tickets a year. The only way that supply isn’t going to be hit is if the main source of skins is from people buying keys, not farming.

Yes, in my opinion, only a small minority of opened chests was from farmed keys.

Then I wonder, if only a small minority of opened chests are from farmed keys, then why did ANet go out of their way to nerf farming keys? Normally companies don’t invest time and money changing issues of small importance to their pocketbook, especially a situation where they had already said that they were fine with people farming keys. To reverse a long standing policy of this nature suggests that there were a substantial number of farmed keys. Enough to impact them financially.

I dont think they did this change for financial reasons, otherwise they wouldnt have buffed the droprate from random mobs. I guess they dont want people to create a character, do the same story mission over and over again and then rinse and repeat but rather have them play in the open world with other players.

And reversing a longstanding policy where they said it’s fine. If the number of keys being farmed like this is small, as you suggest, then the number of people who were doing this is smaller, which means they reversed a long standing policy and spent the time to code this in in order to affect a small number of people. If the number of people who were tied up with this is so small, and it’s not affecting much, why should ANet care enough about it to nerf it?

Because they dont want new players to see this repetitive gameplay as the best way to earn wealth. They want them to experience the full story line and open world pve or other parts of the game.

Do you think a new player is going to notice that guy flying by him, just like any other dude/dudette, and say to him/her self, “WOW that guy is moving fast. They must be a key farmer. that’s all I wanna do now” :P.

Anet said on multiple occasions that key farming was kosher. Not everyone did it. And even fewer still spent the majority of their time doing it. New players fragile sensibilities( jk ) had nothing to do with this. It’s not like the entry lv. trains that used to happen. That was crazy broken. No, this is something else entirely.

But it promotes only experiencing the first chapter of the personal story, rather than leveling your character. It has nothing to do with fragile sensibilities of new players. Anet made a personal story spanning 80 levels and I can see why they want players to experience the whole thing.

And right now, Anet didnt say key farming isnt kosher either because you can still do it once a week.

The only bad side effect that was mentioned until now is that skin prices will sky rocket but they havent yet, so i dont see the problem.

Gold to Gem conversion

Sometimes I like to cash in my gold for a few gems each day to work towards nice things in the shop. Today I noticed something odd between buying different numbers of gems.

I have just looked at a conversion of gold to gems and the differences between each gem cost vary a lot. Shouldn’t 2 gems cost twice as much as 1 gem? Why is there a 34 silver 63 copper difference between buying 4 and 5 gems and only a 17 silver 91 copper difference between buying 2 and 3 gems?

1 – 54s – 83c (54.83 difference)
2 – 72s – 71c (17.88 difference)
3 – 90s – 62c (17.91 difference)
4 – 1g – 8s – 18c (15.56 difference)
5 – 1g – 42s – 81c (34.63 difference)
6 – 1g – 61s – 84c (19.03 difference)

I wrote down all these prices within 30 seconds of each other and a few minutes later they are still around 1-2 copper difference.

Feel free to flame me if i have missed something.

Sometimes, you also pay more listing fees and sales tax, when selling something on the tp, than the 15%.

When you sell an item for an amount less than 10c because sales tax (10%) and listing fee (5%) always has to be at least 1c.

So if sell an item for 5c, you pay 40%, if you sell for 2c (the smallest amount you can list an item for), you actually payy 100%, 1c listing fee and 1c sales tax, leaving you with 0 profit.

Because they dont want new players to see this repetitive gameplay as the best way to earn wealth. They want them to experience the full story line and open world pve or other parts of the game.

This opinion might be worth considering, if they hadn’t already said they were fine with it. If it actually was the best way to earn wealth. If there were so many key runners that new people were rushing to join the crowd. If they had put in the nerf 3 years ago when key running appeared.

Sorry, at this point you’re reaching. Either there was enough people doing key runs that key running was making an impact and was nerfed. Or there wasn’t many people doing key runs, not enough for ANet to go out of their way to nerf. Not your opinion that there were few yet these few were impacting the game enough to need a nerf.

Opinions change, even Anets. They were fine with farming cof1 for gold until they nerfed it in order to promote running other paths and dungeons. They were fine with champ trains in low level areas until they removed most champs.

Point is, if player behaviour and meta changes, Anet has to re-evaluate the situation, which they did now.

Just because they once said they were fine with key farming once, doesnt mean they will always be fine with it.

People can still farm a key once a week, if they wish. The amount of gold they make per hour with it wont change, they only cant spam it anymore. If Prices for BL skins should really rise significantly, which i dont believe, it will be an incentive for other players to get one once per week, even though they usually wouldnt bother.

RIght now people just claim its a stupid change because the prices of BL skins will rise, which remains to be seen.

Some people complain that there is mostly rubbish in BL Chests and Anet should put better rewards into it. If this change makes BL skin prices rise, that would exactly what those people asked for. Unless of course, those people that complained about useless stuff in bl chests were the same that farmed hundreds of keys per year.

ok so the 2 big “BLTP forum specialists” (RIP) whipped out their kittens.. anyone around who can match them? Wanze has said he doesnt collude with others outside of a few friends he has since early on. Are you completely solo now wanze?

how about you mystic? do you have any partners or is that mostly solo?

no tin foil hat stuff here, just asking.

I did an Investment Club for my social/wvw guild years back, where guild members gave me 100g and i paid dividents every 1 or 2 weeks but i dont do that anymore.

Some super rich players pooling their gold to manipulate markets are simply ineffective for various reasons. First of all, we dont have a good trading infrastructure in game.
If those people would decide on a market to invest in they would act as competition, outbidding and undercutting themselves, so you would need a separate trading account for it, which has to make all the trades. That account has to be maintained by 1 person (which we did back then, i still use those accounts for trading and extra guild bank storage) otherwise you break the ToS. That person would have to do all the work and he would have to manage a trade volume multiple times higher than a single big trader, which is alot of work. You cant just invest 50k gold into a couple of items, you have to diversify your investments into a couple of hundred different items. Once youre done placing all your buy orders, half of them will be outbid already and you have to start over, its very ineffective.
And if you have a high trading volume its also very hard to calculate how much profit you actually made to distribute interest to the other investors and with gold sending restrictions these days, its even harder to send all that gold.

When i did it, I did it basically for charity to my guild members, spending lots of time, which i couldnt use to make trades on my own account or play the game.

seems only polite I should share the same screens. this info is weird… doesn’t really repesent how much you have, only how much has gone through you. and looks like it only goes back to June 24. I wonder if it includes the fees you pay to relist an item. “COGS” = “Cost Of Getting Stuff”?

You forgot to group your items on your sales history.

Youre right, the overview doesnt really show your overall wealth. Last time i checked my bank and bag wealth it was about the same as my listings but most of my items are stored in guild banks anyways and for that we dont have API endpoints yet.

Not sure what COGS means either, apart from it being what you paid for items on the TP in the last 90 days, thats how long it tracks purchases and sales.

According to the experts here on the forums they’d never do that, so this is clearly a mass hallucination right?

Devils horns were available as armor skin before from the gem shop, just like many others. However, since they announced a couple of months ago that they wont release any new armor skins through the gem store, they didnt release any armor skins that have only been available as town cloth before.

This is no new armor skin, just a re-release.

20-slot Bag = 10g = 50s/space
20 slot bags for Candy Corn Cobs are alot cheaper
2) Websites
There are many price-tracking websites out there, pick one and use it.
My go-to for tacking prices is gw2spidy.com
For the graph, you can click on the labels to turn each on/off. I like to get rid of all the averages.
You can get an ideal of how many sales an item has by looking at the Sell Listings Volume. It’s not perfect, but if you count every time the volume decreases, that will usually be a sale. That can help you identify at what price an item will sell.
gw2tp.com is another good one, it updates more often than spidy but less user-friendly imo.
I dont see how gw2tp is not userfriendly, i prefer their graphs, as they have separate ones for price and supply/demand. Spidy has a better crafting section but gw2tp also has scroll downs that show every buy order/sell listing, which is quite handy to see where supply walls are located or the bulk of buy orders is at. But to each their own.

That’s everything I can think of. If you find an error or have comments or suggestions, let me know!

Some bolded suggestions. Maybe you also want to cover using API keys. There are some neat websites out there, i usually use gw2bltc.com to summarize my trading activities.
It especially comes in handy to calculate the value of all your listings, see your sales history by item and average sales price or your flipping history.

Under Current listings you can also check, if you got outbid or undercut on your bids/listings.

There are some more websites that calculate the value of the items in your material storage, bags and account banks (guild bank API coming with HoT) also.

Here some screenshots from gw2bltc.com, showing the overview, sales and flipping history:

Secondary use for Essence of Luck?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Anet introduced Essence of Luck to solve their Magic Find dilemma. But once we have maxed out MF it seems a reasonable expectation that there is a secondary use for the essences. Note* – please don’t give us another busy work treasure hunt for a geegaw or a collection that uses Sam……

It doesn’t seem like a reasonable expectation to me. It takes an extraordinary amount of luck to max MF, so much that it will never be maxed without going far out of your way to do so: buying stuff on TP or farming ToT bags etc.

Put another way: I see how adding additional uses would benefit the tiny subset of players who have 300% MF-from-luck. I don’t see how it benefits the community as a whole.

I also dont see why it would be a bad thing. At least then, people know what to expect, once they max it out.

I think there are armor skins that you start obtaining at 30k+ AP, which is also for a tiny subset of players.

Salvaging wvw items

Can someone put me out of my misery? the search facility being what it is….

im sure I heard somewhere that wvw token armour is becoming salvageable? Im considering getting some of the skins alongside karma gear as I have a surplus of both currency. But I don’t know if I should wait until HOT or if any wvw gear reverts to salvageable after a certain date?

Also ive found a kitten load of unidentifiable dyes on a mule I never really log onto – it must have been when they made dyes account bound – I have almost no master or rare Dyes – should I sell these and buy the dyes I like ( and I like some quite expensive dyes like enamelled) or use them myself?

Full Disclosure – I have the worst RNG. Thanks!

On the dyes. If you Identify them, maybe you’ll get a few masterwork or a rare or two, but the majority are going to be dyes worth ~2 silver, out of your ~80 silver unid dyes. You won’t get enameled, only the dyes that were available at launch. Unless you want to gamble you’re better off selling and buying the ones you want with the gold you get.

In general, now is a bad time to sell dyes, be it identified or not, because the market was flooded during the anniversary sale.

I would wait at least a couple of weeks.

Anet said months ago that they wont release any more single armor skins in the gem store, just outfits.

They already put on sale the shadow of the dragon value pack w/e which contains 3 armor skins, so that’s no reason not to put out bunny ears again. I’m not a fan of them, but many people seem to want them so they might as well. Maybe on Christmas sale.

That was a re-release and not a new armor skin.

And before you say Bunny Ears were already available as well:

They were only available as town cloth, not as an armor skin.

Recently. With the LA rebuild. When the new LA was added a scavenger hunt was included which rewards Princess.

There’s a third item, called the Star of Gratitude, that consumes Empyreal Fragments, but it’s a Wintersday thing, iirc.

I think that is one of the things that annoys me about in game communication. I simply would not have known all of this until you guys told me. I would have loved the chance to get the star.

Communication goes both ways. If you dont read patch notes, you wont learn about new stuff being introduced unless someone else tells you.

Well….I know this might be a novel idea…but maybe they could actually communicate this IN the game? Without people trawling through patch notes?

Original thinking I know. Try it sometime….

Anet said months ago that they wont release any more single armor skins in the gem store, just outfits.

I believe the actual statement was that full armor sets would be acquired via in-game rewards and outfits would be gem store exclusive items. I do not believe there was any mention whatsoever of single item armor skins that are not part of a set in their statement, which would include the bunny ears. This does not mean that we will definitely see bunny ears in the gem store again at some point, but it also does not mean that we definitely will not.

Well, last October Gaile said she will tell the gem store team that players asked for bunny ears. They didnt release it over Easter or during this sale or at any other time.

If you want to believe they will introduce them again, good luck.

I am happy that they dont.

This was an unexpected response from you.

I was simply correcting your comment regarding their statement about armors for the sake of accuracy.

Also, I made no mention of my desiring or not desiring the bunny ears to be available again in the gem store, so I do not know why you felt the need to poke at me like that and assume that I do want them to return. If they come back I’ll get them, if they do not, then ok.

As for your own desire for them to not return and their continued unavailability making you happy…um…ok. Good for you? I do not see how other players having the bunny ears affects you negatively in any way. If someone does not like seeing bunny ears on other players, simply turn the appearance option down so everyone looks the same. Boom. No more bunny ears on their screen.

I am not saying that you are, but I did not take you for being in the ‘Look at me, I have it and you do not’ or ‘I do not like it so nobody should have it’ crowds as your remark seems to imply one or the other could the case.

Honestly, were it to become available in the gem store, I would probably spend 5,000 to 10,000 gems gifting it to anyone and everyone so as many people as possible would have it in case they want it so people who are against their being sold will see nothing but a sea of bunny ears everywhere they look.

I also didnt mention that you desire it to come back but simply wished you good luck, if you do.

I have character models toned down anyways, so i wouldnt see them, just back pieces and weapons.

Queen's Jubilee?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

A jubilee is usually a celebration of a round anniversary, in this case it was Queens Jennahs 10 years as reign of DR 2 years ago in August.

As we didnt celebrate the anniversary last year or this year, I doubt we get one in the near future, maybe in 3 or 8 years.

But we did have the Crown Pavilion, which it seems pretty obvious that’s what the OP is actually asking about.

It doesn’t look like we will be getting the Crown Pavilion event this year. It’s already pretty late compared to when it launched previously, and we are getting closer to Halloween/HoT. I wouldn’t be sad to be wrong about this, though.

IF the OP was asking about the pavillon, he didnt indicate it. It was only jubilee that was mentioned.

Not really, actually. Sprockets didnt really go down in price since the pick was available and it seems many players started working on their backpacks since the mordrem invasion which rewards quite some mats for it, like power cores and blade shards.

Edit:
New items today: jungle explorer outfit for 350 instead of 700 gems and transmutation charges, 5 for 37 gems.

not today, my friend.

In todays blog post

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/encore-sale/

you are advertising the Tradesman Package like this:

The Tradesman Package contains everything you need to be a true power crafter. No longer will you have to leave your crafting station to access a merchant or trading post!

I am not sure, who is running the crafting stations but usually they offer great service, providing not only direct bank and material storage access but also a merchant right next to each one of them, not only selling crafting supplies but also all the goods that your Black Lion Merchants do. They are also open for business 24/7 and dont disappear after 15 min.

Yes, your merchants also offer 4-slot leather bags but in 3 years of crafting i never found myself in the miserable position to have to leave the crafting station because im short on 4-slot bags.

The Trading Post Express is basically the only useful item in tradesman package for power crafters.

But after all, the tradesman package is still a great deal, if you dont have permanent contracts for those services and temporary bank and merchant access might come in handy while fighting back the mordrem this weekend.

So I would vote for you again.

Especially because Ellen Kiel took all the quaggans out of Borderlands.

Mystic Forge Recipes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Hey everyone!
So, I’ve been using the mystic forge a lot (specially during events where you can make event specific stuff from it, like christmas and all that, even for siege in WvW) and I don’t know about you, but the amount of clicks is starting to get to me.
Besides having wrist pain due to work, the sheer amount of time it takes to get anything done is ridiculous.
Now I know ANet have already said that the Mystic Forge can’t have recipes due to some of them having unpredictable results (such as 4 different weapons giving you a chance of just about any weapon at all), but what about the fixed result ones? The ones such as christmas presents, WvW Siege, some weapons that are crafted there too! Can we not get, along with the resulting fixed item, a recipe we can unlock for one of the crafting professions so we can make them faster without all that clicking?
For example, I was making just now 250 superior siege… it’s rather painful, both figuratively and literally.
Hope to hear some good ideas/points from everyone on how this could be improved!

The painful and time consuming process of mass forging is the biggest reason some of the mystic forge recipes are profitable because many players rather pile up their skill points/spirit shards than turning them into gold because its utterly boring.

It would surely be a quality of life improvement, if you could make 50 superior siege blueprints at a time but then profit margins would shrink immensly.

If thats what you want, they might as well introduce a superior siege vendor in wvw, where you can buy 50 superior blueprints for 50 regular blueprints, 50 spirit shards and a stack each of mithril and elder.

As you seem to have missed to read the forum rules, for example that naming and shaming is not allowed, or simply ingnored them anyways, I am more likely to believe that you DID break the rules of the farm map.

This is probably the worst suggestion i heard this year.

I am on an condi cleanse warrior build (in wvw) and i eat them for breakfast. I have no problem cleansing 5-10 condis every 10 seconds, if i had half of that time immune to condis, i wouldnt get much condi damage at all.

Just imagine some dps enemy player laying some uninded bleeding, poison or burning on you, which you clear and gain immunity for 5 sec, right before his team mates swoop in and put a condi burst on me.

30k dps completely negated just by swapping my weapon.

Gem conversion prices

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wanze.8410

Who can realistically afford those out of control gem prices now? Only those rich top few of course. A new player coming into the game and seeing that will be immediately discouraged from even looking at the gem store (I know because I have already had to address this from some new player recruits). When will these prices be brought into check? Where is the limit? Do the developers think this current conversion rate is a fair exchange of time played vs gems rewarded? Discuss (prefferrably without trolling)

Just tell the new players they can bring the conversion rate down by buing gems and converting them to gold.

Precursor prices after expansion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Usually when determining the market price of an item, you would use the trade value of the resources needed to craft it, if it is craftable. If it isn’t, then it would be a case of supply vs demand. Right now, precursor values are purely based on that supply vs demand scenario, but once they become “craftable”, I think their prices will be determined by the amount of effort and resources required to craft them.

But precursors have an average forging value based on the average amount of rares/exos you throw into the forge. And the price of mithril, elder wood and t5 fine mats mostly determines the price of the popular pres.

Some events in the past awarded lots of these materials (halloween, wintersday, SW).
Most people claimed the price for pres went down earlier this year because of the announcement but it was mostly access to cheap t5 mats (snowflakes) from Wintersday, which let their prices drop. Thats why since then, prices have been rising continously, as no new content went live and mats for crafting rares went up in price, with elder wood the main culprit.

Supply and demand wont have that big of an influence because if demand goes down and prices with it, people will stop forging them and once a popular pre drops 100-200g in price, demand will rise again.

And as already mentioned, the mastery tracks for old precursors wont be the first choice of most people, they either will work on the new pres (which arent tradeable anyways) or the other Maguuma masteries.

So i guess wether the prices for old pres (at least the popular ones) will go down or not, will mostly be determined by the output of t5 common and fine mats once HoT goes live.

I understand how you’re trying to look at it, but it’s still ultimately built around supply and demand. There’s a reason why precursors like Rodgort’s flame had, until recently, only sold for up to 80 gold while others like dusk sold for up to 1300 + gold. It had very little to do with the cost of crafting items to throw in the forge, and more to do with demand (greatsword legendaries are far more popular than Rodgort).

If this was not the case, the price disparity would not have been so severe because the price difference between crafting a torch and a greatsword is not as proportionately severe as the difference in value of Rodgort’s flame and Dusk, respectively. In fact, just look at the price difference between Dusk and Dawn, both of which would have the same chance of dropping and require the same average cost (both requiring you to drop greatswords in the forge), yet because of differences in demand for each, have very different price ranges on the TP (Dusk costs around 50% more than Dawn).

I was only talking about popular expensive pres, maybe i should have pointed that out more clearly. But youre right, the price of unpopular pres like the torch is determined by low demand and high supply. Nobody is throwing rare or exotic torches into the forge to get that pre because supply from random drops and random forged weapons more than covers demand.

For greatswords, professional forgers usually add the value of dusk and dawn and divide it by two to determine if its profitable atm to forge gs.

Of course supply and demand determines prices in general but what i wanted to say with my OP is that supply and demand wont be affected much by craftable pres.

Unlocking skins by Mystic Forge

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

There is a really annoying exception to the rule that the “mystic forge unlocks skins automatically” — it doesn’t work for non-armor|weapon skins for progressing collections.

  • In particular, you can’t get Sam, Rhendak’s Signet, etc into your collections by using them in the forge. Trinkets have to be unlocked first before using the forge.
  • Minis can only be unlocked by adding them to the wardrobe (which destroys them). Using them in the forge does not unlock them.

My rule of thumb is: right-click to “add to wardrobe” before forging — that way, I don’t have to worry about whether it fits into category A (unlocks automatically) or category B (it doesn’t unlock automatically).

The difference is add to wardrobe and add to collection, i guess.

Of course you cant unlock skins from trinkets because they dont have skins.

The top 20% PvE tournaments? lol okay then.

Are you saying that the top 20% of the playerbase appear in those tournaments. Maybe you’re talking about the top 2-3%?

Would you feel more comfortable asking the hundreds of competitive players in the dungeon forums about this? Let’s count the guilds that run rangers for competition? DnT? SC? KING?

This conversation is over. You’ve never heard of what I’m talking about in any of the 3 formats.

So let’s say hundreds of people talk in the dungeon forums and there are a hunded thousand rangers playing the game.

What percentage do you calculate that as. Your issues may be real, but making up numbers isn’t going to help your cause.

And if this a dungeon specific problem, OP should post in the dungeon forums, maybe those dungeon cracks can help OP in finding a viable group composition for rangers.

If you actually read what he said you would see that this isn’t a dungeon specific problem. The problem is rangers don’t have the tools to be competitive in any game mode.

This is a fact. You all seem to be ignoring what the op is saying and just responding with, ” but it’s fun to RP with and open world pve with so the class is fine”

OK, maybe then all who play ranger are simply not skilled enough, thats what i read from it.

It has nothing to do with personal skill. If you take the greatest driver in the world and stick him in a go kart is it the drivers fault he can’t compete in a nascar race? Does that make the go kart any less fun to drive?

You would have to ask that the greatest driver in the world.
