Are there actually Thiefs that complain about deadeye to be weak? Oh got you really have no idea of this kittenty balanced spec do you? This classspec takes out anyone in 1-4 shots with nearly no casttime on its skills lots of stealthskills even the possebility to 100% crit with any shot fired in 2 secs after stealth is broken without the need of precision and that on max range. If you do not understand what is op about that you are completely out of mind. Engis would kill for that spec in this way after loosing there grenaderange and getting a completely kittenty mortar instead that is weak as hell and has not even half the attackspeed of any rifle skill of the deadeye.

Burstdamageclasses and longe range skills are completely nuts and the version of deadeye is completely out of balance right now in fact there is only one chance to conter and that is with an other thief or by reflecting the shot which is also completely random as they can easely get into stealth and prepare theire hit whenever they want letting you not much possebility to do anything. Max damage in PVP tests so far are absolut crazy 19K damage with a multitime usable skill which means instakill for some classes and that before any buff that increases damage even further. And what wil lthe thief do if you get close? Stealth and getting range again or just switching weapons to finish you off. If you suck with thief and deadeye you have serious problems folks.

No decent player should get hit by deadeye’s rifle (at least not #4). Other than that, reflects/blocks which is nearly omnipresent and you completely removed deadeye’s capability of doing anything

any legendary staff has this magic touch, which in my opinion doesn’t fit thief.
Hope looks good, but then it is a pistol…which is not a decent choice
Predator is not worth, since rifle sucks with engineer and deadeye, not so much on warrior, but not good either.
Bolt is a good looking legendary, shining blade also.
Incinerator is a solid choiche though

Daredevil was trash, until Anet fixed him around a year after release.

The spec is fine. As far as I can tell there only limited tweaks that need to be made, most of them in Rifle itself.

Malice needs to get built up way faster. Kneel should’ve been a class mechanic, so it would affect other weps too. Making kneel a weapon skill is just cheap.
some traits need a rework, other tweaking.
Remove cast time of Mark, and kneel.
And many more changes.

As usual, it’s less about the core concept for the spec (which is cool) and more about its extremely clunky and rushed implementation. It took quite a while after HOT release for DD to be whipped into decent shape… loads of good beta feedback was almost completely ignored. DD even had placeholder animations until days before release…

Between that and the ongoing lack of attention for Thief, I see no reason not to expect a repeat of the same with DE. Maybe it’ll be fun a year from now?

This is the point where all these “It’ still time to fix” babble got rekt.
We saw the same with HoT beta an release and with core GW2 beta and release.
Anet has proven to be completly ignorant/incompetent to react to criticism (which includes justified criticism, way to often lost in the salt-mine).

That’s my problem with deadeye. Not that Anet has failed to implement it properly, but that I know for the next months/year it will stay like this. Frustration is the keyword.
We saw it with core GW2, we saw it with HoT.

People have been asking for rifle on thief so many times it was inevitable that it would come at one point. Atleast we got it out of the way now and can get decent weapons for the next specialisations. Like rifle on thief, srsly? Of course it would be crap.

With that said DE is still pretty fun although i would never run it over Daredevil in ranked queues.

Daredevil will alway be better in any playmode, since anet will never ever do some major overhauls.

Preliminary tests show rifle DPS is pathetic to say the least. It’s lower than Unload spam.

This is not likely to improve at all because of how the initiative system works (it’s actually quite sad). Where other classes are balanced around cooldowns (also affected by alacrity) and can constantly rotate between skills, the initiative system is completely broken and a large portion of thief DPS relies on auto attacks during initiative downtime.

Rifle auto attack is pathetic. The damage modifiers in DE are not static as in DD, and are quite frankly far lower. DD gives a 27% damage modifier to staff, with a 100% uptime…while not hindering your movement capabilities.

Do not expect rifle to ever be able to compete in DPS with anything. It’s a 1 trick weapon (Death’s Judgment), which heavily drains your initiative and leaves you vulnerable if you fail, or worse…dead, thanks to reflects.

As far as open world PvE goes, casuals can rejoice as they can safely sit at 1200/1500 range and afk auto attack.

Any decent player will not be using this spec in its current implementation (unless they’re out trolling awful players in WvW) because it’s an obviously rushed, poorly implemented espec. It could have been better, but they wanted to be safer than sorry…which resulted in them being overly safe and giving us what we have in this demo.

Also, since Anet clearly showed with HoT and core GW2 (and their overall update policy) this won’t change.

I rly like Thema sniper mechanics and i had a lot of fun in spvp today. But i wonder how rifle will be good in open maps, or raids , u guys got any ideas about builds and stuff?

You can literally play anything in open world. Raids are different, but since we have to wait till we can try them with raids, nobody can tell.

there’s a big difference in an elite spec that expands a class’ playstyle and an elite spec that goes absolutely against what a class is designed for.
thief is and has always been in its core, a melee glass cannon, extremely agile and using dirty tricks to get the upper hand, as backstab or poisons.
this spec is absolutely the contrary. you fight from a distance an are 100% static. I never liked the idea of riffle and even less now that I’ve tried it.

That’s your interpretation though of the old days, every class get’s their playstyle expanded – just look at necro with scourge losing its shroud and gain more mobility, if that isnt a big change then what? Everyone is passionate about their class, but in the end there are changes to all classes.

But as far as I can tell, just thieves are not excited or happy with deadeye. the other classes seem more excited, but thieves rather disappointed.

Then take a look at the other class forums, always unhappy people there over various things. Though if I was a scourge, spellbreaker or weaver I would be quite happy.

Of three devs in the spec team, one alone was dedicated to weaver. Just saying.
The thieves forum just contents problems with deadeye or how it’s mechanic is broken, or failed design and so on.
None of the other classes have this, but the toxic community of gw2 goes in both directions.
Everything is bad<→no matter how bad something is designed/implemented, shut your mouth and kiss anet’s butt.

Deadeye is exactly what a thief should be – very high damage but highly dependent on a good setup and judging when to strike. Too many thieves have become sloppy and reliant on the daredevil style of endless evades to keep them alive.

I ran into some deadeyes in WvW with my ranger and it went about how I would expect. When I got the drop on them, I tore them to pieces, but when one of them got the drop on me, I had to run my rear off as I got rapidly torn to bits.

It’s a ranged assassin class and one that seems surprisingly well balanced in terms of its vulnerability and damage potential. I`m really looking forward to playing one, but it will always have a different style to longbow ranger and other typical range classes, much as it differs from evade spamming daredevil styles.

Blocks and reflects are literally everwhere at any time.
Deadeye may have it’s niche, but rifle is just borderline useless. Kneel should be a class mechanic, not a dead weapon skill.
There is literally no situation a Daredevil won’t do everything just as good as a deadeye, but most of the time way better.

I like it. It’s not supposed to be mobile. Stop trying to make it a daredevil with long range damage. Some things need QoL improvements, but the general design is good for what it is supposed to be.

Let’s start off by saying yes, you do reach your full potential sniping by kneeling. But you don’t have to kneel. It just makes buttons one-four for rifle better.

Sadly this mostly ends in either your rifle skills massively lack damage and utility (atm they massivle lack utility and a usable unblockable attack) or kneeling isn’t worth using.

Played around with the Deadeye spec for a while.

Dont like it that much from the playstyle but it works for some i guess.

Would be great if Kneel would be an F-ability and not bind to the Rifle.

Rename it to ‘Perfect Aim’ or ‘Focus’ or ‘whatever’ and just make it reduce your movement speed by 50%. Give it a cooldown and not an initiative cost.

For all ranged weapons(Shortbow, pistol, rifle) it grants more range and higher damage plus a special action button when you reach max malice stack. Tadaaa! A viable choice for all ranged weapons.

Rifle gets the special bonus that it alters your rifle skills. So 5 normal skills and 5 special skills while you are in your stance + the extra interaction with malice stacks.

Would be a lot more viable. Grants more choices etc.

What do you think?

Even with the rifle…you forget one thing. Yes its stationary which is a downside while roaming.

But when people don’t see you quickly enough, with good traits and skill usage you can take out literarily every target in range. (which is a lot more than most other classes have, 1500)
Kneel on top of your castle, in the middle of your group or whatever, pick a target, boom its dead.

Managed to kill quite a few people out of their group with the rifle, it just requires
quite a few skill combinations to properly work.

What i did is, get that +200 power on reveiled, get that +ferocity after mark and everything that boosts power and crit. (might comes on top of that)
You can make good usage of that reveiled buff, could easily ramp up 3k power (without might!, 100% crit on top of that out of stealth while having 220 crit damage with marauder gear)

What you can do than is:

Sigil of Power -> F1 -> Kneel (which puts you in stealth) -> 5 (which auto reveals you +200 power, crit and ferocity) -> easily 8-10k hit followed by 3 and most weaker targets are on the ground

So yea rifle is a gank tool, pick a target out of a group, boom target dead. But thats all..not much more use i guess.

I disagree with you, that deadeye is a good trait, but that is totally personal opinion.
But we both agree, rifle get much hate (well deserved) and I totally understand the frustration.
While every other class got an at least usable new weapon, we just got a new traitline since rifle is so bad most don’t even call it a weapon, just a gimmick, and cantrips are mostly underwhelming (heal may has it’s place).

Common rants are that “I play thief for melee assassin style” or that the elite spec never could’ve been “good” because it’s a rifle. Well newsflash for you, no one will ever be 100% satisfied, same way one elite spec cant cover all game modes – clearly rifle deadeye isnt the same common decap thief in spvp. Just keep giving feedback instead on how to improve the gameplay so that it is more fluent to use.

Now as to the real reason this thread was created since original feedback got buried, please consider letting us get the swiftness application from Skirmirshers shot (rifle 2) without having a target, as itll heavy increase our roaming (be it in WvW, spvp or whatever..). As it stands, deadeye is lacking swiftness and is slow and it sort of makes a non optimal spec for spvp even worse. I cant stress this enough so please have a look at it!

Why? Anet won’t do some necessary major overhauls.

Because positive thinking and solutions can in many cases make certain ears listen, than not provide anything. Look at daredevil how much it has changed from launch till now, a spec you love.

Positiv thinking didn’t helped Turrets, or Scrapper or Necromancer.
Tbh, positiv thinking leads to hope for changes, which leads to disappointment.
Better be realistic. Deadeye won’t change in it’s core mechanic, which is the start of the whole problem.
Secondly, Daredevil needed these buffs to be even playable. As you know daredevil just recieved alot of nerfs, and I hope this won’t continue to bring it in line with underwhelming deadeye.

This seems like one of the more interesting specializations being added in PoF to me. It is a skill set that seems to better fit the rifle then any other currently in game. I definitely want to play it when it gets released. Range and projectile speed could be increased while kneeling, I expected the range to be better. Will definitely play this spec.

To me it seems like one of the more boring specs.
Just because Warrior has better options than rifle and engineers rifle is even more weak…no wait, engineers autoattack is even stronger than deadeye’s!
I think it’s a broken spec. Designed during breaktime.

The swap for having a character not in melee range was slightly lower damage.

I would rather have the first shot with lesser damage, but never know they were being targeted.

Weapon skills need to be a little more different; cause conditions: daze, bleeding, ham-string, or blind.

They have a month to deal the tweaking and I hope they take our suggestions.

I’m thinking whole spec designed in a break time. It feels cheap, calling it elite spec is ironic.

With this design, i cant even have hopes for future of it.

Scrappers can tell you the future of deadeye.
Rushed out, droped at day of release, never touched again.
It literally feels like anet used all their resources to create weaver, and in two weeks all other specs.

I “might” write a complete feedback post after beta, but i dont believe Anet eager to make massive changes on Deadeye. Because Deadeye requires MASSIVE OVERHAUL!

So i will follow the forum untill beta ends, if Anet asks our feedback/help/ideas, i will…

Thats why i didnt write a feedback at first. Why should i waste my time on feedback, while game devs doesnt want to “waste” their time on major overhaul?

that’s what World of Warcraft is good at. Or Dota 2. Or nearly any other MMO. They have a real balance team, and they very often release balance patches.
In guild wars…There is not even a dedicated team for that.
Even loudly complaining doesn’t help. Just look at engineers turrets. They alway were and always be useless garbage.
Right now deadeye feels like scrapper. Rushed out, clunky, and I predict, devs will drop it at the day of release.

Holosmith and weapon choice

I start saying that heat system feel realy lackluster, having to regulate yourself with Photon forge mode and heat is crippling in my opinion (the cd on disengage could have been 3-4 seconds instead of 6, but wth since it works well with static discharge).

Then let’s get into the topich: Holosmith and the weapon choice.

Right now, sword is the only weapon which work with heat mechanism, having all the skill influenced by level heat. But I think that other weapon should be working with heating as well, like riffle autos getting the same effect as sword, #2 shooting an electrified net that stun for a duration based on the heat level, ecc…

I think having heat working with all the weapon would certanly making Holosmith more fun.

Any thoughts?

they didn’t want to make deadeye too strong, but seriously it’s pretty crappy due to how much they held back on it. After messing around for 2 hours, I hardly get the chance to use kneel 4 with proper malice charge, with a glass cannon build, you pretty much can spike 1 guy down simply with 333 spam.

I just hope the don’t nerf daredevil to be in line with deadeye…oh wait, they already did. Daredevil is still better though.

Sure… it’s not unique. But it certainly is something Thieves couldn’t do before.

Okay, so, let me get this straight, Anet. You give your Deadeye a kneel and you don’t make it a slav squat? What kind of kitten is this? Absolutely disappointing and game breaking. I will refuse to play this broken and incomplete class until you add this feature in.

Nah on the real tho Deadeye is pretty neat. The only issue is that where my damage is coming from is kinda unclear, since I sometimes just slam a dude for 11k damage on a skill after only doing 6k the first time. And it’s not on the malice skills, either. No idea what was going on there. I’m sure it’ll get better with time.

Kneel feels pretty spooky to be in (no movement) but at the same time it feels incredibly powerful. You just kinda brat brat on dudes that run up on you.

And, outside of kneel, you teleport around forever and it feels so good. Definitely fun as hell. Must be super obnoxious to play against, but, hey, no skin off my back, because I’m a garbage person already.

Here’s an idea:
1. Revert Mark to have the same functionality as Steal initially. It retains its shadow step and acquires the same stolen skills.
2. With the Dead Eye elite spec, add the marking and malice functionality to steal. i.e. make it mark, and allow you to stack malice, but don’t change what is already there.
3. Sniper’s Cover trait is a clear choice for rifle users and those wanting to built toward the sniper style. Add the effect to make steal no longer shadow step you, and instead steal buffs instead of “items.”

Boom. It’s viable for all weapon sets, not just rifle, as it should be.

tbh, any weapon is more viable than rifle atm.

- autoattack feels too slow.
-initiative cots are too high for a too small reward.
-kneeling should be fully replaced with sniper’s cover, not traited.
-no initiative cost’s for kneeling
-deadeye needs a rifle option for an unblockable attack.
-all cd’s of cantrips are just hilarious
-malice builds up way too slow, even if you are attacking.
-not keeping your stolen skill and a full reset of malice after your target is dead is really underwhelming

compared to daredevil, which is better at every aspect, deadeye is just as expected. disappointing.

Idk about you guys, but i am in love.
I was one those people before HoT that thief and rifle could never really mix. Boy was I wrong.

I just wanted to say thank you to the team. It actually feels fluid now. I really like the kneel mechanic to make it give a real mobility cost.

I think any other class will thank Anet too for deadeye. It was never easier to get a free kill.

No really, engineer always has been the lowest of the lowest of the lowest priorities.
We need to be realistic.
I predict it will be the same as with HoT and scrapper.
Last class designed, half made, dropped and never touched again after release, not even talking about core engineer, which never in this life will recieve any kind of overhaul, at least not a positive overhaul.

Hey guys, I am struggling to find a class which can be played rather well in every aspect of GW2, maybe except PvP that much, but also for roaming.

The answer here is pretty simple.
Warrior or Ranger
Warrior You don’t have to worry about Warriors weapons as the main ones you will want to use is Greatsword and Axe/Mace or Axe/Shield. It is easy to learn, fun to play, and its DMG or Boon grants are very useful and desired in Fractals and Raids alike

Rangers, specificaly Druids (only Druids) are moderatly hard to learn but extreme fun to play. Once you play it at atleast average level people will kiss your feet just to make you play Fractals/Raids with them. You will use Spirits only in Raids, not required in Fractals except for certain high level instances, don’t worry about those. Druids are very desired in Fractals and Rads alike.

Revenant is a suitable option as well, but I am pretty sure that Warrior will be preferd in any Fractal/ Raid group, otherwise it doesn’t differ that much from Warrior when speaking of usefulnes. It is considerably harder to learn and play though.

All of the three professions have a good use in WvW Zerg aswell.

Out of all classes, which would be the most versatile? Which class can be played rather well in every aspect of Guild Wars?

Warrior and Guard. Necro is not hard, too. If you tihnk you wont be good with dodgin then take Guard or Necro.

What class can be shiny, or at least playable, in all aspects of GW2? Even high fractals or raids…

IMO shield is really strong as it is, if not the strongest shield skill-wise in the game,

Also if we get a power main hand in this next expack Shield will be used a lot more.

We already have hammer, which is sadly connected to a mostly useless spec outside of PvP (and scrapper is not even in PvP that good)

Gyros require scrapper, so why wasting a utility slot for something the healing turret already do? And you forget, gyros movement is bugged as hell, and they are thin as paper against the not so uncommen aoe’s in pve.
Both the purge gyro’s and the healing turrets toolbelt suck imo.

Condi removal just with alchemy line? Tell me a other source of condi removal SKILL of the engineer, except healing turret.
Engineers are not attracted to healing turret, there is simply no alternative.

AED for example. Or how about the toolbelt of Supply Crate?

AED, too situational, no included condi removal unlike healing turret. Very unreliable,
Supply crate? Are you kittening kidding me? It does not heal directly, but with healkits, which positioning is bugged as hell and too situational, can be picked up by others and a cd of 60 seconds, but I give you that. Engineer just has useless garbage as elites, so it won’t really matter to take Supply Crate, since you are not really loosing anything important.

After the Tuesday changes, Cleansing Burst only seems to activate once on turret deployment and never again. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? If so, I feel heal turret should be reverted back to its old functionality. I don’t always want to waist my condition removal on turret deployment (if I have no conditions on me).

Base condi removal, imo, should come from the alchemy line (HGH ftw), not your healing turret. Like most classes/builds over time, you get nerfed and you must adapt. Either change your traits or utilities or sigil/runes. So many engis are so attached to healing turret, its kinda sad, especially where there are possibly better options based on your playstyles.

Here’s the thing: We know they are aware of the engineer’s problems. I’ve seen multiple dev comments where they point out that rifle is underwhelming, that kits are simply way more useful than most of our other skills, and the traits are a mess. There’s other issues they are aware of too, like legendaries and kit interactions. They have seen our complaints. They are aware of the issues.

And yet they have done nothing to address these problems in the past 2 years. This last “balance” patch for engineers looks like it was cobbled together the night before they implemented it. Whatever their team is doing, they’re not devoting the time they need to fix these issues. It honestly feels like engineer is an afterthought in their minds — we were the last class to be added to the core game, and we were the last (rushed) specialization added to HoT. They continue to demonstrate that we’re last in their minds.

My hope is fading extremely fast. I’m not a naturally pessimistic person, but I find myself growing angrier and less interested in playing Guild Wars every day (I only log in for dailies now). Unless they do some serious balancing before the next expac, I’m not sure I’ll want to buy it.

I’ve documented many of the issues in my post: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/The-Engineer-Injustice/first . I didn’t bother telling them how to fix the issues because it’s their job, not mine.

Many people seem intent on arguing that our DPS is meta, but I would argue that they’re equating the weather with the climate. The winds have been temporarily kind to us, but history has shown that we almost always get nerfed in the harshest ways possible. Take turrets and gyros, our two big selling points. Because they were seen as “OP”, they got nerfed so hard that they’re significantly less useful (if useful at all). There’s no gentle nerf stick for the engineer. We get the nerf mace. And then the skills are left in obscurity until they inconvenience someone on the dev team.

Jep, I always tell my engineer guildmates, that they should loose their hope. The meta is friendly to engineer right now, not the other way around.
I suppose not even after the new expension engineer’s new specialization will be the last added, balances won’t happen (or for god’s sake, overhauls of turret/kit design will definetly NOT happen).
Loose your hope and you illusions. We engineers are always the end of all balance designs. Except nerfs, they happen easily.
There are hundres of problems (most since beta), but Anet simply don’t give a kitten.
