MSI Afterburner. However, filesize wont be very small (over 30gb for 2 hours of 720p I bleieve). If you want small size, good quality and with no effect on fps, you need a capture card. But then you have to cough up the dough.

This. Fraps will lag your game.

They all slow your game down unless you have a capture card.

No it is not, DXtory is better than fraps lags less and can choose (and add) loads of different codecs as well as match every setting to the settings best for your computer / game and can save all of games top different template settings.

you can also use DXstory to stream via xpplit etc which also works faster.

I tried Dxstory with diff codecs and regardless of what i used it didnt lag the game but it sure as hell didnt capture half of what i did.

Gem store prices IMO are ALL grossly overpriced for what you get.

This i agree with, i only bought gems 2 times with money(was only $20) but it is absurd what the cost of pixels are. Im sure they would get more sales if things where more reasonable, but since they arnt i will purchase away using ingame gold.

However i believe there was some hinting towards some recording features due to Spvp they want to take off as an Esport(was in one of the Spvp state of the games), if you look towards Planetside 2 they actually have a built in twitch streamer and upload videos to youtube within the game.

This game has created a strange output in that it encourages helping people through actions, but because of that its created a strange understood setting in where no one talks because everyone understands what to do.

in game information about ‘important’ events with a time limit to complete would be useful and should be implemented.

Again, there was an ingame UI message that informed users about remaining time.
The nature of temporary content has been discussed in other threads, the short version is: Users asked for it, got what they asked for and are happy, other users complain because you can’t please everybody.
The living story content is just a small part of the world and more of a temporary amusement. If you don’t complete it, you don’t loose anything.

Correct me if im wrong but it was just a bar, in my mind i want an actual timer . Good example of this was with the final bit of the molten alliance, i thought the dungeon was over the 13th(as in you had the 13th to run it) but it was in fact the 12th. So when it was the 12th at 8pm (reset time) there was no dungeon. Im not sure what i missed out on as supposedly having a little extra cut scene to it but w/e it was i missed due how i interpreted the wording or misread it.

It’s pretty clear to me that no amount of information overload is going to help some players. During every stage of F&F, I still saw lots of players asking what F&F was and where it was taking place.
Some players just don’t visit the official site, browse the forums or wiki, read patch notes, open ingame mail, or look at their UI.

IF you where solely to use the in game information you would find the amount of information disturbingly small.

If you’re playing the game off and on and not paying attention to anything except ingame info then this game is not a priority to you. It would mean you’re not looking outside of the game to read up on news, patch notes, or class builds. You are not investing any personal effort in this game and are just playing for fun and to kill time. Events that you miss should not be upsetting you because it shouldn’t be important to you.

If you are upset that you missed out on an event, then this game is a priority. You would not be relying on purely ingame info.

i never knew my options where black and white

This games suffers majorly from having to many things outside the game(see LFG, Living Story, WvW rankings, Spvp Leaderboards). I dont remember exactly the quote but i remember blizzard saying something aking to “its bad game design to have players go outside of the game for information” when they where adding the dungeon journal . I would also subscribe to this logic as it makes the most sense, when living story came around i learned the most about it out of game (not even when doing it), that terrible for something that should be telling a story in game. The little extra backstory for living story events on the website? Why are they on the website, they should be in game.

Its counter intuitive , living story is good for those who are currently playing and for those teetering on playing or not. For those who left and come back there is no built up content over the time when they left, effectively for them the same amount of new content is present.

The reason ascended gear has infusions is for agony resist correct, you may also notice ascended pieces have essentially what would be the gem slot , baked into the stats.

In addition to this the back piece could not be utility as no other back piece does and putting a utility infusion on a limited time item and it being the only one doesnt sound to good.

Because it is ascended it has to allow agony resist to be added into a infusion slot , such is the rule of ascended pieces. No one got their tin foil hats for the ascneded backpieces you can make in the mystic forge.

Fractals seems like an excellent gateway to past content, given its nature. The concept could be expanded into something more than a dungeon, while the dungeon itself would be on a different menu, I suppose. To distinguish between the two, the current fractals could be called Unstable Fractals. It’s a win-win!

However i just dont understand why the dungeon cant exist? I mean technicly the other dungeons are done also and should be gone because i finished my personal story. Why cant the living story then become part of your personal story once you completes the personal story, this would allow a way to keep future dungeons.

The Molten Facility is tough!

By the by, I took the 27th Thief because the announcements about the dungeon indicated that it was inclusive, not exclusive. From the responses here and the map chatter, I guess the official hype is less than accurate. Another reason I took the thief is that it always seemed like everyone has a ‘zerked warrior and I thought I’d be different. My issues with thieves is a rant for another time

Well the dungeon is gone but i just want to be clear about one part of this post.

Scaling can only do so much, it will not make up for your lack of simply not having skills and is limited in terms of stats granted ( i believe being upscaled puts you at full greens of that level? ). While yes you can bring anyone if you want but there is a reason the first dungeon is at 30 (you have all your skills and a majority of traits).

I’m personally really bummed that Living story is the only content they’re adding nowadays. It’s okay for a few moments, but it’s so forgettable and bland it’s not a meaningful endgame content. I’d compare it to the holiday festivals like Wintersday and Halloween. The “whole world is your endgame content” doesn’t hold water either, so what is our endgame content? Everyone and their grandma must be bored with dungeons and Fractals by now as they are currently. Instead of pushing the Living story down our throats, please add some permanent endgame content.

Guild Missions are, in some cases anyway, good end game content too. They’re permanent and being added. People forget about them but I’ve had a ton of fun, particularly in Guild Rushes. Bounties not so much but I still have a few awesome experiences with them (as well as a few bad ones).

New PvP maps have been added, culling has been taken out of WvW, ranger pets have been worked out…other stuff is happening besides the living world. It’s easy to focus on this because this is the most if your face content, but let’s not forget..

Dynamic events have been added.
Jumping Puzzles have been added.
A PvP map has been added.
Ascalon Catacomb bosses and other bosses have been redone.
Guild Missions continue to grow and expand.

I’m sure more permanent content will come as well. I see the point of the living story and I like it. But I’m sure it’s not all you’ll see in the months ahead.

Lets Be Clear here, Bug fixes and balances changes are in no way content.
4 things have been added that is permanent in terms of content

Fractals
2 Spvp Maps
Southsun Cove (which is debatable currently its actual worth, will see over the next month)
Guild Missions

Out of the whole bunch fractals is easily the biggest and most fleshed out as it provides lots of content to work through. The spvp maps have a fair amount of use also as Spvp is in desperate need of maps. But the rest……eh , Guild missions while fun dont offer nearly the same amount of content compared to Fractals or the Spvp maps.

Im not saying im against the living story, my point really is that the living story to me seems like a waste in that things just never return. Look at the molten weapon testing facility, that was a fun dungeon. Why couldnt that be built upon and made into a full fledged dungeon rather then be tossed on the way side? I dont want to see things simply go to waste.

Risk vs Reward is my biggest issues with dungeons, i can forgive the terrible loot but at least have tokens scale with the actual difficulty/length of paths. And allow loadstones or cores to be purchased through tokens. Also far to much health on some dungeon bosses.

I don’t consider level 80 zones an end game.

This game does not lack end game. This game has end game that you don’t consider end game…which is significantly different.

It has end game for me. I’m sorry you can’t see it.

No it doesnt have End Game as far as most use the term for. If you literally break it down as Game you play at the end and yes everything in every mmo can be considered end game for the most part because you can do it all later.

However when most use the term end game they are referring to content that you do only at max level and traditionally challenging content(Ex Raids).

Currently in GW2 we have Fractals to an extent and Arah, otherwise nothing else. GW2 forums have this theme of getting hung up on improper words and instantly associating them with WoW in a heart beat. What really this topic is about is challenging content is needed, not exactly end game but it would at the least be something like fractals where you could get by on maybe the lowest difficulty but otherwise need max level because if its challenging then it means youl want the extra stats.

Explain one thing to me first: What do you need a raid for? What mechanics require more than 5 players? And if they do, do they really add to the gameplay and wherein lies the difference for the individual player?

Raids only stick out at provide almost not challenge for the majority of the players. In most raid only 3-5 people really have an important job and have to deal with what the game is throwing at them while the rest of the raid just has to not suck at playing the game.

Anything requiring multiple splits of groups, its also need to flesh out the other roles such as support and control rather then damage. Yes they add to the gameplay, this game is sorely lacking roles. Currently its just DPS with a few support moves that are nice buts it enough for other classes, its very limited. Thats why Guardians and Mesmers are so valued is because they offer support/control that is good unlike other classes.

It sounds like to me you are in referencing old wow it at the very least larger raiding where roles are less important. Honestly i think the sweet spot is 8-10, 8 allows 4 groups of two as nothing you do should be a solo job.

I just dont understand why GW cant have its own versions of Raids, i actually had a post in the dungeon forums as a sort of make your own raid discussion. Why cant GW2 Raids be short and to the point, time commitment is working on the boss not clearing the dungeon. Why cant they have multiple difficulty levels? So everyone can experience them and the higher difficulty gets unique loot? Why cant the raids have progression within the raid itself so people can still progress their character while not effecting outside.

Why would you go on your 27 thief if you had an 80 warrior? You dont even have all your skills yet.

No you cant just strong arm everything in the dungeon if your a group not made of heavy armor, you have to use your skills to deal with mobs then.

Now about dungeons – I did not notice any change in dungeon loot. I think that you just have a bad case of RNG. I was never too lucky myself. I tend to get blues and some greens sometimes. Friends that I run with though get cores and yellows sometimes. It was always this way and wasn’t changed.

Fractals Chest loot seems to be much worse, i havnt gotten a single core since last patch from a chest.

temporary content puts pressure on people to do stuff now; it’s good for them because more people log in.

Its good for people who are actively playing and took a short break. It is in fact bad for people who decided to take a extended leave to see where the game is to come find out its exactly where it was before.

Living story is great for those still playing in some fashion, its horrible when you take any extended leave because you dont have content that has built up over your leave.

About 4 main things have become actual additions to the game in terms of any content.

1- Southsun cover
2- Fractals
3- Guild Missions
4- 2(?) Spvp maps

These are the Major 4 that have stayed around, and out of those 3 Fractal is in my mind is the biggest of the bunch.

I like to think of this whole situation as GW2 is a house and Living story is the paint. All the permanent stuff added actually added to the house, perhaps a new kitch or an addition to the house. The living story is simply a layer of paint that gets painted over several time and leaves little to nothing behind because you scraped it off.

So lets start with the love part first, you know on a good note. I like the idea arenanet has here, the concept is good and from what we saw with flame and frost the execution will need to be worked on a little but the point is that its getting there. When i saw the next patch coming quickly and moving on i was excited as Flame and Frost was far to drawn out and this seems to be a much quicker pace which is a good sign of things moving along. Also i think all of us are excited to see south sun cove be…………… well something beyond Karka Land.

But with the good comes the bad and two main things bother me about this video. First is the fact that it exists, and by this i mean the fact that such a video was made gives me a bad feeling for those who missed out. IF you didnt get to participate its simply over and all you have to know it existed or what it was will be simply youtube videos, or when gw2 has been around long enough to have the Vet Community(Ex the people who still play wow since vanilla) explaining what happened.

The second issues is simply another part of the first and that is simply the temporary content. Now mind you the little things like the things leading up to the Molten Weapons Facility i doubt anyone will be crying they didnt get to do them, disappointing sure but not “I hate this game” Reaction. But things like the Molten Weapon Facility im sure many would have liked to run if they missed our or those who did run it would like to run in the future is simply gone. Why does a dungeon like that simply fall to the way side but the dungeons we have now stay? I mean if you beat your story then they are all of the past.

Wouldn’t it be cool to relive the living story stuff . They would then become how the personal story continued? If you where around when the living story of that was going on you simply dont do that personal story, but if you missed it you can do the personal story to know what happened.

Having this would allow dungeon such as the Molten Weapon Facility some continuity to the story once the living story is done allowing it to become a permanent fixture like the rest.

I dont think the issue with party size and dungeons has anything to do with anet “forcing multiplayer blah blah blah in an MMO”, I think it has to do with requiring a specific number of players to party up.

Why can’t dungeons scale for one – five (or however many) players? I can’t even tell you how often we’ve struggled with trying to find an extra person or two to round out a party or had to exclude a person or two because the dungeon had a five person limit. If the game is going to be considered a social game, then it seems ideal to me to allow for scaling like this. Of course we don’t live in an ideal world nor is it necessary fair to strive for the ideal in a system you have little or no ability to govern. Still, I have hope for the future that this will evolve.

There is a limit to the amount of options available for boss fights, the lower the # allowed the lower the amount of mechanics possible to scale or even have possible to exist.

It was alright, it was kind of like an old school history channel documentary.

Feel like you missed the point of the post, im not complaining about the production quality of it. But rather what it represents.

Actually.. being forced to live in a stale world that never changes it’s entire lifespan of 5+ or more MMORPG years or needs a major expansion to see any change that is still kinda… eh.. leaving most of the world the exact same is bad. I’ve played far to many MMORPG’s were older sections became relics all the way back to EQ with Kunark and WoW with the Burning Crusade section where nobody wanted to do it. They were even bitter about having to do this out dated and unfun content with bad gear stats for the new styles.

This is a positive thing and I’m happy for it but I do hope to see less one offs like the Karka event even though it was really cool. The lag, loads of karka killing due to scaling, and being booted never to get back in to see it on your own server was just.. ya… That part sucked and they need to let your character stay there for 5 minutes to give a shot to get back in not just boot you asap.

Anyways…. a living ever changing world is a very fun thing and I look forward to it.

The problem is as of currently the world isnt changing beyond from certain things. What is happening now is that we have two layers of the game. The first is the permanent layer of the game , this consists of the essentially what we got when we bought the game with the addition of fractals and guild missions. Then we have the second layer on top which is the living story , it comes and goes and is built upon the lower layer but is changed frequently leaving little if any of itself behind.

The best way to explain my point i can think of is a House. The House itself represent the game, while the living story is the paint on the house. You can change paint of the house but it doesnt add anything to the house except the occasional bits you cant seem to scrape off. Which is much like what we have now, We have the base game with the living story on top.

To get back to topic:
This post made me try again these boxes which had disappointed me
earlier.

So i bought boxes for 250k Karma I had saved on one of my chars. Result: Stuff for 1g 30s and 9 obsidian shards i do not need.

Not really a convincing ratio of converting karma into gold. Just another kind of roulette in this game.

People seem to not understand how good obsidian shards are all the time. The Mystic clover recipe specifically the 10 version usually has a great chance of lots of tier 6 materials.

Its random to get them quickly , you have a chance at the end of every 10+ Daily fractal. But after 10 you will have 10 pristine fractal relics which you can buy whichever one you want.

Something that has been bothering me a bit with the release of this past patch is, why go through all this work and then make it temporary?

Out of all the patches in this game there are only a hand full that added permanent content which varies in how much was actually added.

Southsun Cove (cause there is lots to do here)
Guild Missions
2(?) new Spvp maps
Fractals (prob the biggest addition of the bunch)

Beyond from this i cant think of much else.

Things like Super Adventure Box and the Molten Weapon Facility are great things to keep around and both can be built upon.

Molten Weapon Facility is dungeon with just a story mode, why must it go to the wayside after this? Why cant it be built up with explorable modes so now a new dungeon exists with new loot and such and we have something new to work with. Same goes for super adventure box, keep it around and then next april fools add the next world to it or what have you.

It just feels to me we need some of this stuff to stick around so there is more to generally do, i personally loved super adventure box and wanted to go for the achievements but i wasnt always in the mood for it so i did the other things i enjoyed more. But once those tasks are completed since they will take longer i would love to go and do that as the next thing to tackle, however that is gone now and i must wait till next april.

I just wish some of these things stuck around, even the karka event would of been nice (didnt get to see it thanks to video card fan died) in a lesser sense because currently the champ karka at the top is WORTHLESS and they could of kept it as a good meta event like the orr temples. Anyway just thought if vent a little and hope some of this would stay around longer and be built upon .

Why I hate to grind? well I also play a bit of Diablo3 (yes yes im a bad person or whatever) but the grind in that is horrible. Spend so much time killing and killing waiting for that thrill from the flash of orange that I get bored of waiting.

T1-3 should have better drop rates IMO and T6 are kitten rare, Ive not got a craft up to T6 stuff so I assume it follows prior lvls patterns.

I feel like a lot of people dont know the mystic clover recipe usually spits out T6 mats in the boat load if you do the x10 recipe. I have only about 20 Mystic Clovers but have about half my T6 materials .

Ok lets see here

1- Guild Mission’s when active need some sort of UI on the screen, not in the guild UI

2- Could we allow when using the trade post searching armor to narrow it down to Slot and Type, so you know say Exotic Heavy Pants.

3- Could the MF Remember recipes so i dont have to keep dragging things in multiple times or at the very least allow me to make my own, especially when doing clovers its annoying to keep dragging all 4 things in for the single chances.

4- Add SOMEwhere in your character UI your Fractal Level

5- A Camera Recenter Button

6- Allow me to organize my bags with some sort of grid system so i can create little areas of where to put like Food, Potions, Crafting Mats, Sell stuff.

7- Fix Fractals whole, PL leaves then you all get kicked.

Why make so much temporary ?

Something that has been bothering me a bit with the release of this past patch is, why go through all this work and then make it temporary?

Out of all the patches in this game there are only a hand full that added permanent content which varies in how much was actually added.

Southsun Cove (cause there is lots to do here)
Guild Missions
2(?) new Spvp maps
Fractals (prob the biggest addition of the bunch)

Beyond from this i cant think of much else.

Things like Super Adventure Box and the Molten Weapon Facility are great things to keep around and both can be built upon.

Molten Weapon Facility is dungeon with just a story mode, why must it go to the wayside after this? Why cant it be built up with explorable modes so now a new dungeon exists with new loot and such and we have something new to work with. Same goes for super adventure box, keep it around and then next april fools add the next world to it or what have you.

It just feels to me we need some of this stuff to stick around so there is more to generally do, i personally loved super adventure box and wanted to go for the achievements but i wasnt always in the mood for it so i did the other things i enjoyed more. But once those tasks are completed since they will take longer i would love to go and do that as the next thing to tackle, however that is gone now and i must wait till next april.

Don’t get me wrong, RNG has it’s place but it shouldn’t be incorporated as much as it currently is. 77 lucky clovers, from what I understand, is very difficult to obtain and then add in precursors plus the other smaller RNGs… well that just makes the process unbearable than an interesting goal to achieve.

The clover just looks bad, what people dont realize is a majority of the time you end up getting tier 6 materials which you need for another gift. In large sums to if you do the x10 recipe (like x44 Armored Scales) .

The Only real pain in the kitten kitten is the juggernaut silver doubloons as there is no recipe for upgrading copper to silver yet there is recipes to upgrade gold to plat etc. Hell there isnt even enough on the market to make the gift.

Support has lost its meaning ; too broad

There shouldn’t be any “support” other than players’ own intention to support. If there are specialized support classes, that means one more step towards trinity.

thats actually a good thing in my eyes. I understand people not wanting group requirements, but we do need roles in a dungeon beyond everyone DPS for dungeons to ever become more challenging . As someone else linked the goal is to have 3 roles, Control,support, and damage. Just like the other poster mentioned the goal was to have everyone bring a little of all of them rather then someone being decked out in one. Problem with this is damage has been the proven way to handle anything, Support in some aspects is restricted by cooldowns and others is stats that simply arnt as valuable . Control is completed resitrcted by cooldowns.

Perhaps we need a “haste” stat

One thing to keep in mind is that PVE and PVP is joined at the hip, and the first question that seems to come up during a Guru video chat is bunkers. And defense/support is vital to bunker. As long as ANet and the SPVP hardcore wants to see less bunkers, support side of the equation will have lesser effectiveness.

Not really , wasnt there a post a week or two ago going over how they are making changes to skills so they have separate values in PvE and PvP and that its done already just on a lesser scale.

Did you ever consider not farming for the legendary? You know just kinda going about w/e you where doing while simply reserving anything for a legendary.

The Quest is way down the pipeline, either save the gold or use the MF.

Is there a zerker problem?

Its a symptom of a larger problem being roles like support and control are not needed. While we dont have the traditional roles, we still need roles . Its part of the reason why mesmers are so awesome is because they are great support, they offer something no one else brings and its a good one, partly because it funnels back into the “Just do more damage” . The next best example is guardians wall of reflection however beyond from those two its hard pressed to think of anything memorable .

The Main problem is pure damage can solve every problem, and that results in fights that are simplistic.

I think we need more people to bump this thread some good stuff here. Just to add onto it a bit I think 10 man at least would be optimal because 5 man content feels to small making support feel less needed to to the amount of players. This may help the dps to win problem. Also this would make combo fields feel more needed with more people able to put them down and use them as a finisher. Mechanics like needing a person with a water field to blast finish to help sustain an aoe boss hit. Also for loot since you can make bosses drop stuff that can be part of a legendary on the hardest difficulty. Like obsidian shards or beating last boss gives a couple clovers and lodestones. As well as unique looks. The game right now is lacking ways for good players to show skill. Tpvp is about it WvW is a zerg fest which biggest group generally wins, and the dungeons are super easy and just a grind for cosmetics.

Support and Control don’t feel less needed, they simply feel like a hindrance. The only real support is Mesmer because they give all the utility the meta needs.

For complex mechanics to exist they need to force players into something more than DPSing as fast as possible. There is just nothing in terms of mechanics that require you to do any thing a glass cannon Zerker can’t do.

Which is part of the problem i agree, support and control roles need to be built upon for a raid environment to succeed as it will allow for more complex fights and roles. I think control is needed the most just to allow other things to happen so the boss just doesnt run after whomever .

An honest question

So much focus on gear progression when the true question really is progression in itself, in that it hits flat at 80. Remove gear from the equation entirely, in terms of just progression in anything once you hit 80 and your in exotics your done.

All thats left to progress your character is a few ascended pieces which are gated in terms of how fast you can acquire them and your look. I like progression, it doesnt have to be gear progression but there has to be progression. Luckily my want to progress in Fractals to get some skins and working towards my legendary is my current goal, but there really is nothing else to progress my character.

There are no challenging dungeons that im not going to be able to complete because the mechanics made it a difficult fight. There is just content that is will take longer.

There is nearly 0 PvE content in the game that actually requires you to talk to one another because of its difficulty and the few that do exist simply arnt worth the effort as there are easier ways to obtain what you want.

GW2 Needs a Raid, it needs its own form of raids. Where content is challenging (not just High #’s) to progress some aspect of your character while working together with a team. Challenging content is what builds teams as you have to work together, if a task isnt hard enough then there is no reason for teams to form. GW2 has one of the friendliest communities, however is also have one of the quietest.

I like progression, it doesnt need to be gear progression but it needs to be progression. I would like a GW2 raid to progress through. And dont get hung up on the term raid here, its just a term to describe challenging PvE content in this context.
