Fractals are the worst offenders of the bunch as they have limited use and for some reason havnt added more to spend yet but i agree we need them to tally like Laurels.

There are what 8 dungeons each with its own token, then fractals has two types of tokens.

So thats 10 just from dungeons, then you toss in badges of honor and guild commendations your up to 12. I feel like im missing some but thats 12 right there which is a crap ton of tokens .

Scaling is a Problem

Scaling seems to be a problem that exists in the game and the issues has permeated to the other aspects of the game. I’m not talking about just events but rather most aspects within PvE.

1) Event difficulty (To much exponential scaling)
Since event are the first thing people think of when scaling is talked about lets dive right into here. Not all , but a spare few suffer some scaling that is a bit on the absurd side. The two most glaring examples that come to mind for me is the Pre event for Balthazar and Half Baked for guild bounties. Balthazar’s pre event has two moments where they loose moral extremely fast almost in a snap of the fingers during the event that is almost or is impossible to prevent, the flip side of this is if you are running with fewer people the event itself is extremely easier and on the easier side to complete. Half-Baked has a similar issue, attack him with 5-10 people and you have a fighter that is fairly easy to complete. Once again on the other side you end up with a fight that is insane in terms of the amount of health he posses that you will be lucky to burn him down in time (mesmers help alot if you bring to many). Both of these represent cases that scaling is just crazy and must be adjusted and brought back in line as they defeat the purpose of people just hopping in.

2- Event Rewards – Karma (lack of reward scaling)
Another thing that seems off is the karma gains you get for certain events. Im sure all of you have at one point been the only one who has done an event and you get the same rewards as being part of the large pack helping, what would be nice would is to have a platinum rank for events meant for groups done 1-2 people as they where the only ones there giving a bit more karma

3- Event Rewards – Rares
For some reason there is a set # of events that give the guarantee rare for one reason or another(dragons i cant under stand but the lowbie zone ones + golem seem odd). Most of the events tend to be short, not that lengthy, and over within mins. The majority of time with most of that them is spent standing around waiting for the spawn. This both can be unenjoyable and seem a bit backwards that for how easy they are they rewards such loot. What i would suggest is using some of the larger chained events for such rewards, like centaurs and ogre events which have multiple chains in the event and giving the same level rewards. But dont stop there, provide better chances or perhaps MF that applies to the chest by doing the earlier chain events. In short you would get rewarded by helping and participating in the whole chain.

4- Dungeon Rewards (lack of reward scaling)
If you have ever done a dungeon you are aware that some paths are easy, others are hard. You are also aware that doing path 1 , 2, or 3 all give the same reward while some easily require more effort or at the very least more time then other paths. COF and HotW have big glaring examples of this where path 1 is the speed run path. Its simple, the bosses arnt HP sponges or if they are there are simply less bosses, and you can skip alot. What doesnt make sense is that the path rewards the same as the rest, Paths should scale in the amount of tokens you get .

For Example HotW
Path 1- 60
Path 2- 100
Path 3 -80

5- Fractals
Much like the previous point with dungeons, fractals have the same issue except dealing with the 3 fractals you must complete. I know im not the first to suggest this but some fractals are simply longer then other fractals, and those fractals should count as 2 fractals. By doing this it also opens up the possibility for different fractals by having longer ones that count as double. But the key is that you are being rewards for the extra effort rather then w/e one else does and just skips it.

The Key here is that everyone goes for the path of least resistance which is very obvious, so by rewarding based off of effort people might be more interested in doing more things.

Simple question, for gathering guild merits i know there is a weekly reset.

So simply the question is this, if i do guild bounty tier 1 and guild bounty tier 2 will i get 35 Merits (15 for tier 1 and 20 for tier 2) ? Or just merits for which ever i did first?

Calendar would be great. I don’t know if we need the larger groups since the way the game is designed and some guild are around 400 people, no group size is going to accommodate that.

Trying to have guild events is a bit of a pain once you get over the 5 mark. Like Doing a map complete night you loose people as you go through it because they arnt in the same group unless you have someone who is a commander . I think 20 would be a sweet spot aka 4 groups as a larger size, anything is better then just the 5.

Message of the day only does so much, in fact its worse then other games because it isnt in your chat box when you log in, im sure a fair amount of people dont even click the guild tab every day when they hop on. Also going;

Player A doing AC Monday Night
Player B doing WvW night at X time
Player C has Fractals blah blah blah
etc

As your whole message of the day as it leaves anything else out but the schedule, also if something changes you are in no way alerted if something is canceled or moved and requires an officers to update it.

As far as calendars this would be what guild website calendars are for. If the guild really wants to join in they should be checking the guild website for news and the calendar for the “when” and “where”. It only takes a few seconds to make a calendar on a guild website, most of which are free.

Basically Guilld message + guild website like every other MMO guild/legion does.

Il just paraphrase what wow devs said as i dont remember the exact words. But the jist of it is being that its poor design to have people go outside the game for information. And as anyone who as run a guild has known, not everyone goes to the website or if they do they its very limited and getting people to participate on guild forums and such can be a hell of a challenge.

Its just simply easier for everyone involved if there was an in game calendar and im not saying all the “suggestions” people are giving dont work, there is simply a more elegant solution to it and that can provide more functionality and ease of use then those options . WoW’s worked great and i loved when they added it as it was simple and gave you reminders of when the event was close in your chat box, it also sent you mail if something got canceled , in addition you could have spur of the moment events and they are easy to spot as most dont check guild websites daily.

1- Is actually rendering the amount of people which is on our end without everyone on the low end not being able to handle it.

2- Is a network issues in that the amount of information required per person is to high, so you need to lower the amount needed per person so more information can be sent.

My Main concern with Guild Missions is in how they are started, that they require guild influence to start and activate which means you have to be high enough in the guild to play with influence.

Now what this means is those who can use the influence in the guild essentially get the opportunity to make an event whenever they wish while those who cant are at the bay of those who can. Now you can allow more people in the guild to have the ability to use influence but on the same note you dont want to have everyone available to do that.

There needs to be an ability for either
A: You can use influence that you yourself have created/ gained to create an event
B: that guild missions falls under its own guild permissions so lower ranked folks can activate them

Yes it is time, i was going to post this in suggestions however i think this point it should become a normal discussion in why its needed.

Which just rolls into the need for larger groups. This issues has existed already with WvW but once again now with larger sized events requiring more people, larger groups are needed to accommodate such events and work with their larger size to make coordinating much easier, especially if the guild puzzles will be as hard as they sound.

Name Changes yes.
Race Change no as your choice in race is tied to your kitten Personal Story.

I imagine it could still work it just would take a little more to do.

Can have 3 options
A) It just applies the equivalent choices you made(as its really only the first parts that truely differ)

B) Allows you to make those choices and completes them very much similar how Mass effect 2 allows you to make decisions as if you played the 1st one

C) It just restarts the story if its not completed and you pick your choices as if you made a new character.

Why do raids seem unattractive to people?

To answer directly on the thread, raids are a pain in the butt. Both organizing one and playing it through. For the reasons all the posters above me said, I think that raids in this game will take some flavour away.

For instance, you have to raid 3-5 days per week. That means “mandatory” participation if you want to go anywhere PvE-wise. You simply have to be there. You have to have the top gear you can find outside of the raid itself, so you won’t fall back when group dynamics are covered. You will need the right foodbuffs/potions for your profession/role and so on. You need to learn tactics. Which is a very important bit. If people just got into a raid and merely mashed buttons for 10-15 mins per boss, it would not be fun. And if anyone says it would, after a month or two it would not.

The liberty you have with this game to experiment around with professions and roles is quite nice and many people might think that a raid will maybe take that away. Also from what I’ve seen so far, a raid would be too much hussle without the proper reward and the loot chance in this game are somehow a bit low for me to engage in a 5 hour raid with tons of gold in repairs.

That aside, I sincerely hope the guild missions are focused on 5-mans. You have great ideas for raids and/or gear? Put more dungeons in! Takes exactly 3 mins to set up and about an hour to finish (that including wipes since I always count the factor of someone being new/having no idea of how thing work). Personally I’d never want to give that up for a raid spot. 6 years of WoW left some pretty big bruises, trust me on this one, in my opinion this game will be a lot better off without raids.

That being said, give more dungeons, more skins/armors/lasers/spaceships/loot-in-general, to the 5-mans style of PvE you already have going.

They can be, on the flip side they can also be a blast

Why do raids have to require 3-5 days a week? I mean just using WoW as an example my guild ran once one week and twice the next week and continued with that and still progressed fine. But even that is besides the point, raids if anything are in reference to size and somewhat to difficulty. Top gear in this game is absurdly easy to find, and so far you dont really need a exact group makeup so why would it change when it becomes 10 mans? And whats wrong with learning tactics? I think most that is what they are looking for is the challenge in the fight.

I really dont see a reason why this would go away when making a raid, i think part of the problem is people associated raids with WoW raids, why cant GW2 Raids allow this?

As for loot this is simple, it provides its own skins that is special to it much like any of the other dungeons. In addition to this it drops gear that has a resistance that is relevant to the raid itself much like fractals providing an in house vertical progression via agony resists the raid can have the same.

I just stuck 4 exotic rifles in the MF one time and bam i got the hunter. And decided to sell it as i used a large portion of the gold to buy gems and upgrade the hell out of my account.

Now i have 8 slots, 5 bank slots, and a extra bag slot for my main with 240 gold to spare.

I think the main lack in guild wars2 with community is that you really dont have to talk thus not forming friends. Its like the same thing with wow once LFG was added , a lot of the times you made friends in dungeons as they where hard and you had to work together and of course it was on your server so your friends list grows.

GW2 seems to lack that aspect,while difficulty is around in dungeons due to the fact that most if not all form groups via GW2 LFG the people we meet we most likely wont see again.

Got specifics cause i watched the first hour of it and it was a good 30 mins of trap rangers and ele and why temple is such a good map. And the other bit was talking about the rating system.

Warruz, you don’t use blueprints in spvp, wvw follows pve rules and gear. spvp has no overlap with wvw.

Im well aware, the point of this post was someone said Spvp needs some value outside of Spvp.

Someone then suggested providing laurels and ask what use would it be for a PVP players, well WvW is form a pvp so its an area to explore.

Like i said the game has 3 areas PvE, WvW, Spvp . Pve and Spvp are the extremes of the spectrum while WvW is a mix of both. Its not that they overlap in terms of gear/ progression or anything but in terms of gameplay. If Spvp is to provide things outside of it self it seems like the most logical place to start would be WvW . Not that it does currently but as to where provide something outside in the future.

PvP is separate yet parallel to the pve game by design. I think this is good. It would be nice to have something shared between the two… but I can’t think of anything. What use is laurels to a pvp player? What use is exp to a pvp player? Best you can do is titles and achievement points.

Laurels do provide blueprints

If we take the game and break it down into 3 parts PvE WvW Spvp, both overlap with WvW. Seems to be the most logical place to provide rewards is in the WvW department.

What i would like to see at least in the short term is providing armor skins for each 10 ranks of glorly that can be used for pve armor(no stats just skins). However with at some point there is suppose to be a starcraft league esc system there could be items given by holding a certain rank.

Really i think the best place to expand spvp rewards is to have them go to wvw with blueprints and such. Spvp is just missing a lot in general.

and you need to complete daily (it doesn’t say how much) i guess 10 dailies

so what do you think?
i think it’s pretty easy , you just need 1-2 gold for items salvaged
and time to farm events

Its 5 dailys if you hover over the ui

As for the monthly I think its kinda lazy especially with the do dailys for the monthly. Its not interesting , monthlys at least for the most part have you do things somewhat out of your norm.

40% of your monthly is your daily (events and the daily itself)

The only good thing in this monthly is dungeons although i wish it said fractals dont count.

One thing i would really like to see is a guild calendar , currently atm trying to organize events within in the guild has to be done through outside the game or on the spot in game.

So having a in game calendar where you can set up events ( people can sign up) with reminders would be a great feature to add.

This whole post when it comes down to it. Is Legendaries are a lot of work, as such we want them to fit our definition of cool and fit our character.

Im a char engineer , i got the karma medium armor set colored to look like i came out of the revolutionary war. I use two pistols and would love to go for the legendary ……….but then i saw the quip . I still want a legendary but i dont want that legendary but its the only pistol options.

The problem is there needs to be more legendary so there are multiple skins available and you can make the one that fits you. Right now your stuck with one model and some are very “over the top” such as quip which simply dont fit my character.

With the increased requirements for dailys, this has become more apparent of an issue of at least in my mind is the daily reset timer.

I am -5 GMT (east coast) so my daily resets at 7pm which can be annoying as multiple times i have missed it due to one reason or another as it resets dead center of my play time( at least during the weekdays).

Now i understand this is different for each person so changing the time for everyone doesnt exactly help those who are in a different situation (normally i would say change it to something early in the morning like 4am). What i would like to see is the ability to change when your daily resets or at the very least the ability to set the reset at midnight of your timezone.

The real problem is that most games these days are trying to target such a wide demographic that making them too challenging will affect this.

Little Suzie Q who bought the game as a glorified dress up doesn’t want challenge.

Look at all the posts complaining about the difficulty of Orr. Look at whats about to happen to one of the only slightly challenging open world pve areas in the game in response.

Right now there’s a thread in the dungeons forum by a guy complaining that he cant finish a single dungeon and knows of hundreds of people who have quit the game because they’re too difficult. Wonder what’s going to happen next…

The problem with not having many tiers of challenging gameplay is that your game then has to cater to the lowest common denominator.

Fractals is the best example of what can be done, simply providing tiers where the first one is fairly available . I would consider fractal 1 anyone can do same for fractal 2, and by fractal 2 you can experience all the content.

What the opening post calls a lack of “competition,” I read more as a lack of “status.” There’s plenty of player competition – the results just aren’t publicized.

On the same note competition can be inspired by have those results easily available, can be hard to compete if you dont know what goal your competing for or what is actually considered the best.

I agree that they could add some content for hardcore player, but then will happen the same things that happen when fractal of the mist was realeased and still happen on the forum “blablabla why can’t I have ascended gear if I don’t want to do fotm? blablabla” and ended adding the token to buy ring before and with ascended gear as “daily reward” soon.

There is nothing saying they have to add another tier of gear, all you have to do is drop Ascended level gear in terms of stats but provide a new resistance for that new area. So there is vertical progression within the dungeon itself but not outside of it.

WoW CONTINUE to run for what? almost 10 years? as PAY to PLAY… because they realized that its hardcore gamers are the ones sticking around.

While they stick around they are hardly the ones footing the bill, casuals make up most of WoW. Look at all the casual things to do in WoW added recently, LFR, only two tiers of active gear, Pet Battles, and dailys providing almost raid quality gear. WoW has done a lot of things to help casual players as they are the life blood.

The flip side of that the hardcore community while much smaller is much more vocal and helps promote the game.

Hell, Im not even interested in them. Havent seen one yet that I would consider wasting all that time, gold and effort for !
Other people want them great, Its nice we have that diversity, myself… nah !

This post is indirectly an answer to your problem.

The people that are willing to farm the components to build a legendary are the people that have the alpha ‘melee’ mindset, warrior, guardians, thiefs. That’s why you see the greatswords and incinerators everywhere.

Meanwhile the players that play the support ‘ranged’ roles get their game enjoyment from helping others and are not going to take the time to farm a legendary for themselves. That’s why you don’t see Meteorlogicus, The Minstrel, or Howler anywhere.

OR quip is the ugliest thing possible and the predator doesnt look right shooting from the hip.

More legendary skins are needed as some of the ones for certain weapons dont work like the ones i just mentioned.

And this is why i believe a lot of folks that don’t want raids in this game feel the way they do.
Once added it will (obviously) bring raiders to the game, and the next step becomes “loots”, “DKP” , “work” and all the rest….

And haven’t reached that “step” yet? What do people actually do as “end-game” now? Park your character where the dragon spawn and join in, spam1 for a few minutes and get the loot, or go farm around Orr for Lodestones, forming a huge mindless zerg, that takes care of “loots” and “work” parts of your argument

Look, you want raids? More power to you, I hope you get them. What i really don’t want to see is this never ending gear chase. I don’t care how they do it, i just don’t want gear tiers in my PvP. Its honestly incredible how much more kitten i kick in pvp when i’m on even footing with my opponent.

You start the crap with epic loots, DKP, and all the rest, and it starts to rear its ugly head in WvW. Either you and your loots join WvW and i’m outgunned, or they start to add these ridiculous tiers of PvP gear, and even footing is out the window.

You want raids? No problem. Why cant the rewards be guild titles, armor skins, weapon skins, PvE guild perks (to do your next “tier”), i don’t know, but can we please stop with the epic lootz, at least in one decent MMO?

Perhaps this discussion is just everyone coming in without reading everything but at least me and a few others who are in favor of raids are fine without the gear progress(well you can still have gear progression but in the sense is provides a resistance for there like agony ).

Im just gonna lay out how id like to see raids done in GW2

10 People Max
10 Difficulty Levels(for the sake of argument, just less then fractals is the point)
Ascension Level Gear
Gear Progression is through resistance within the raid(has its own resistance)
Bosses have multiple Mechanics
Said mechanics are based in the fight and can be completed by anyone, not requiring a certain class

2 years of WOW, and i never, never… NEVER accepted sistem like the DKP.
Luckily, as main tank of my old guild, i raised my voice to avoid such stupid sistems in favor of a more friendly loot sistem.

agree, theese are the reasons that put me to left wow in favor of the GW2 concept.

Can we not get off track here with DKP, these are guild decisions not game decisions.

DKP really only existed because of the large 40 mans, Now its a much more uncommon practice , personally i liked suicide kings it was simple and fair but still not the point here.

You dont get my concept, my bad lol.

They cant powerup a boss too much, but they can add more monsters to the encounter, just to keep busy the high number of players. The real scalability of the encounter, is on the quantity and quality of the ADDS Spawned with the boss.

Still you can zerg down the mobs, the shatterer has mobs you prob dont see them cause they die instantly. My point is for outside raid esc bosses to work you need mechanics that actually limit the #’s or effectiveness of the zerg . IT also has an inherit limit on its difficulty as there are no levels for it, something which has been discussed to death in at least this topic is that you as a player should be able to experience everything since an outdoor boss such as the dragons cant be to difficult as they result in you not being able to complete it (or completing it as an observer).

Fractals did one thing and did it great which was providing a level system in terms of difficulty. Level 1 is fairly easy, the hard part is just learning the puzzles. Once you get higher the difficulty ramps up but there is no reason everyone should not be able to do lvl 1 which allows everyone to experience it.

There is nothing stopping a raid from providing such a system.
