No, even though i need them now more then ever (need mystic coins for legendary). I hate dailys with a passion ever since WoW went full swing with them in WOTLK , dailys in GW2 while easy i really dont go out of my way for unless im absurdly close. Even if i have 4/5 i wont go and finish it as id rather do other things.

As i have said before the issue i seem to keep running into (mind you this was w/e they changed the event to only require 1 pack invasion, before you had to wait for all 3) is at the bottom of the hill.

Still cant pin point what causes it, to the best of my knowledge it is a mob in the back that spawns. However on top of that there is also members of the pack that lag behind and take a strange path getting back with the group which causes several of them to clump up.

Im really tired of this event as its absurdly annoying due to the 75% instant moral drop from who knows where(does anyone actually know what causes that). I wouldnt mind it if it wasnt the only temple that you could buy Obsidian shards for karma but its been broken for months now.

I think it’s common knowledge what causes it. Morale is based on how many NPCs are alive. The event usually fails because people stand on NPCs, which pulls AOE onto them, or people letting the NPCs get flanked.

Really dont think it is, how often is Balthazar actually up on your server? Usually never on dragonbrand, it was for once in a blue moon few hours ago and that was it.

In addition to it, the rest of the fight is fine. I dont see groups struggle with the last parts in fact the bar moves very slow for the whole rest of the event except for the one part right before you start working your way up. Most fail afterwards because of that being such a big hit, later in the event i never see the last bit disappear i see tiny slivers disappear meaning you would of been fine except for that up front one.

I would hardly call a group of 6 a zerg, did it with as few of people as possible and there was a spawn behind and boom 75% . The only thing i noticed was a good portion of the pack lags behind the rest and proceeds to catch up all clumped up, then a vet spawns and puts several bad things on the ground and they walk through it.

Nothing i could do about it unless i knew it before hand.

Okay. Here’s your three levels of difficulty with their rewards.

Easy: 20 tokens
Normal: 60 tokens
Hard: 90 tokens

Just an FYI, I’m not really being serious in this post. However, any reduction in difficulty must mean a reduction in rewards. Dungeons are not difficult. It’s more of a learn to play than anything else.

Just as long as hard isnt increase #’s. What WoW does is prob a good metric in that it reduced the amount of abilities at easier difficulties and increases at higher. Challenge in learning new mechanics on top of others not just hits harder.

Design a GW2 "Raid"

I thought this would be an interesting topic for the dungeon forums to see what people think or what are there thoughts on a GW2 “Raid”

Just a few ground rules in the discussions.

1)“Raid” has no meaning beyond being challenging PvE content, nothing more.

2) “Raid” is being used as a term for the sake of discussion

3)It has no other meanings to it such as more then 5 people as an example.

So with those rules in place il lay out how i would like to see a GW2 Raid handled.

Design- For design of a raid i personally wouldnt enjoy long raids, in my mind i would rather have multiple shorter ones that are part of a set. If you played wow gruuls layers was short and to the point, had 2 bosses and minimal trash and was a good example. No one enjoys difficult trash as its always unrewarding in every game, not to say it wont in gw2 but if you have ever done any dungeon before you know its the truth. Multiple little raids allow better room for pugs to form and break up time commitments.

Loot- First part of loot is rewards, the key to a raid is to not load all the rewards at the end. Raids should be designed with the thought you wont complete them initially thus means each boss needs to be rewarding not just completing the whole dungeon itself.

Progression- Having progression without stat progression means resistance. Fractals have agony resist so the new raid should require resist at higher difficulties. As to how that resist is gained is a whole other discussion . My mind there are two ways of doing this, either dropping new gear type that is equal to ascended gear in term of stats but allows a new resist infusion or making it some sort of permanent buff. You also can progress this in the opposite way by having weapons carry a buff specific to the dungeon that creates a debuff needed for fights.

Difficulty- We learned from fractals that to many levels make them meaningless , the difference between 16-17 is minimal and not noticeable. The biggest noticeable difference in fractals is every 10 levels and past a certain point there is no point to progress higher in fractals. My vote would be to limit the amount of difficulties available down to 5, this adds more meaning and more challenge. Not just adding health or damage but rather mechanics. If each level of difficulty added a new mechanic to a boss this would add to the challenge in a good way rather then scaling #’s up and allows most people to do lvl 1.

Size- I always felt 10 was a good # of people but thats me, i could see 5 and i could see more then 10. But i feel personally somewhere between 7-10 is a good size, 8 may be an odd group size but its enough to allow more things to happen that cant in a small group size but not to big.

Anyway im curious what your guys thoughts are if you made a gw2 raid?

i did not read through all the posts but im just gonna answer the OP question posed.

End game = content you do at max level.

I personally would go a step further and say its content thats only available at max level. Using my extended definition that boils down to Higher Fractals and Arah in the PvE department as they are about the only things you cant do at lower levels. Everything else is available in some form at lower levels. While that may be my definition i think most and i agree is end game content means challenging content that has progression.

I was in a fractals group yesterday and one of the topics while going through it was talking about we all wished there was more then just fractals. I to would love a different set of fractals as fractals are essentially end game PvE that exists. I would like challenging content to progress through, something that cant be completed in one go and isnt dependent on dailys as its not ment to be completed in a day. Something that requires learning an encounter and is not just hard in terms of hits hard or lot of health but has mechanics that you must adhear to.

This is my vision of end game personally, i want something to work towards that isnt gathering tokens to progress. I want bosses that prevent progression due to challenge , has vertical progression within the dungeon itself (see agony resist) and has a limited amount of difficulties. Not the 50+ that fractals have but serve no purpose, just say 5 or 10. A limited amount in that each level means something perhaps an additional mechanic added each level.

People need to drop the whole zerg mentality. Just because you can’t zerg something, doesn’t mean that it’s broken, bugged, or whatever. Learn the mechanics of the boss.

Guild missions should be able to involve the whole guild. It feels weird designating a zerg target so everyone can get there rewards because if the rest of the guilds go to those fights then its over. Bringing less people is not a strategy its poor design.

Bounties are simply not fun in there current state. There is no hunting as the timer is to short, there is following for long periods of time as you wait for your guild to find all the targets.

Everytime i have gotten a precursor it was never with rares ( i have gotten 2 so far). The first time i got one it was dumb luck as i decided to throw 4 exotic rifles in the MF and got the hunter. Since then i have spent most of the money but i wanted the hammer (to actually make a legendary not to sell) , all the rares i gathered i either sold or salvaged and sold to buy cheap lvl 80 exotics.

Using that method it took me perhaps about 10-15 attempts to get my precursor using exotics. Only thing i can say based off of my experience is using rares its so a far shot its absurd, use the rares to make money and use money to buy cheap exotics to MF.

Sounds to me that with the current way things are set up, if you can’t figure out how to get ascended gear you don’t deserve it. It’s honestly quite easy and if you can’t spend 2 minutes of Googling, you’re not trusted in /my/ parties to be useful.

What is this i dont even?

I don’t think a new currency is needed. They should add new fractals and make all ascended gear obtainable in there using current methods. Perhaps make ascended accessories 20 pristine relics so that you would still have to do higher fractals to get them quickly, and add them to the daily chest. Currently, it feels as if the fractal dungeon has been abandoned. How many rings does anyone need?

Keep the laurels they way they are. They are for casual players to eventually work toward something.

Cant really think of a way that says you need to be in say lvl 30 beyond a new currency (unless FOTM lvl requirements where added to them). You want to put them higher so people feel a need to progress because currently i would say 30 is where most people cap out for fractal skins with a few oddball groups going farther. On a side note i would love to see more fractals, especially something else then jademaw.

Isn’t the point to make ascended gear available from every aspect of the game? Putting more ascended stuff into fractals is the opposite of that. The selling point of this game isn’t “Just do these fractals to get what you want”, it’s “play however you want”.

Something like a universal currency that is earned from doing anything – fractals, dungeons, farming, WvW, crafting (?), map completion, and jumping puzzles – that can be used to buy ascended things. It could even be gold, I guess, but that might screw with the TP. Better to have something that can’t be traded, but can be gained from doing anything.

Edit: I know how to get ascended gear, but don’t want to do fractals cause they are repetitive. What I want to know is why WvW and jumping puzzles don’t give ascended gear.

This is the real issue, the way its spread now is that the only way to get the majority of pieces is through laurels which is fine. However once your outside of laurels you now enter into where getting pieces are fractured in terms of where you obtain them. Some areas offer 1 piece, perhaps 2 slots but thats it. The place that they have the must use (Fractals) you cant obtain more then rings and back pieces within fractals, to go further you have to use laurels to purchase more pieces. WvW players only avenue of gaining fractals is through laurels and nothing else, WvW through some means should have a way to progress to gain ascended gear.

It is just full of problems in that its spread out unevenly and more can be obtained in some venues and less in others.

No please no more new currencies. Just let us buy any ascended piece using the ones we have now.. Ascended amulets and earrings from pristine fractal relics for example…

While i can understand not wanting new currencies . At least myself feel laurels are the fill in the gap currency, thus to get higher/difference ascended pieces in fractals and WvW they should require more difficulty. With using pristine fractals you could just grind 10 and using badges of honor you just keep doing what your doing already.

Main problem with currencies is they take up bank space, not the amount.

By standardized i mean in how you go about obtaining it and how it function compared to other gear. Currently the method is very confusing and simply just a mess as some paths of progression allow obtaining Ascended gear, others only some pieces, and other none.

Lets first start from the top with the method that allows you to gain the most ascended pieces.

1) Laurels
So as you all may know laurels is the dominant way to gain ascended gear, it is a slow process however it offers the most ascended pieces in that it offers everything BUT a packpiece. This is all fine and dandy being slow as laurels should act as the light at the end of the tunnel, meaning if all else fails you can get them through laurels except back pieces which seems to be the exception to all the rules.

2) Guild Missions
Supposedly you can gain ascended gear out of the guild event chest, i have yet to see this but il just assume its possible. However what you can do is use guild commendations to purchase ascended accessories and thats it. Now the problem is two fold here, the first is that it bars people who are currently running into the small guild problem with guild missions (could of been avoided if they didnt make bounty so high in Art of War but regardless) , the other is that it is lacking the other pieces. Rings , amulets, and backpieces are all missing from the equation and are not available through guild missions.

3) Fractals
This is the oddest of the whole bunch in that fractals is where this started and where they have the most use(agony resist). Fractals offer two pieces of ascended gear, the first being rings which are fairly easy to obtain as you only need to be in lvl 10. However Fractals also offer the elusive back piece which can only be obtained otherwise through the mystic forge (at a hefty cost i might add you). But it seems odd that fractals stop there in terms of ascended gear as you need more ascended gear to advance into higher fractals which at the same point have no use. I propose having Fractals 30+ to drop a new currency and a chance out of the daily to get amulets , in addition to this fractals 40+ will also drop a new currency and a chance out of the daily to get accessories .

4) WvW
One of the biggest complaints WvW people have is that they need Ascended and while they dont exactly need it, it is however unfair to them that they cannot obtain Ascended gear through WvW. All that is needed to be done is simply an additional currency to be added Badges of Conquest. Badges of conquest are obtained through capturing Keeps and the Castle(castle gives extra….alot extra) and you then can use badges of conquest to purchase Ascended gear. However to prevent abuse there will be a cooldown on earning badges on conquest within the same keep to prevent trading.

5) Open World
Personally i feel open world need some way of obtaining Ascended gear, but personally i feel like the current design of open world would make it to easy. What is needed for open world is zones that actually has progression within the zone as the whole zone. And progressing towards the end (which has some super huge battle) would give your points towards Ascended gear.

6) Crafting
You cannot craft any of the ascended pieces which diminishes some of the usefulness of say jewlcrafting. I think the best way to go about this is to introduce an ascended only crafting mat, something above globs of ectoplasm that you can gain from exotics and ascended gear when you salvage them.

7) Salvage
This is straight forward,allowing salvaging Ascended gear.

8) MF
Along with crafting having MF recipes to gain ascended gear should also be added.

While this may seem like alot of new ways of gaining ascended gear, it still allows for it to be gated by either large amounts of resources or simply time. It also eases it up somewhat allowing people to not feel as locked into there role and being able to play around with different builds. But the main goal is that this would allow people to play how they want to gain ascended pieces so they dont have to feel like they have to play a part of the game they may not enjoy to gain gear.

Ironically it was the most fun boss I’ve fought in a while. But he’s ridiculously easy after the first time. Still, it is possible for him to punish you hard if you mess up.

But you know… one thing about him that differs from every other boss in GW2… he doesn’t have 500 billion hp! Imagine, the challenge is actually built on mechanics rather than cheap hp inflation!

This, its like the only fight in the game that isnt just throw higher numbers on the health bar. I cant wait for boss fights to be challenging because of mechanics, not a battle of attrition.

Its an absurdly rare occurrence when you put 4 of the same and got a random out. Iv had it happen once with all my MF dealings.

BTW if you are really devoted to getting your precursor why not use 4 exotics? At least then you are guaranteed an exotic.

4. Fractal skins should become fractal skin tokens so you can trade it in for the one you want.

5. Fractals dont offer amulets or accessories which you need to get into higher fractals however you cant obtain through fractals.

i understand the be careful what you wish for point however RNG doesnt have to be bad. Fractal weapons are a bit absurd just because not only do you have to actually get the skin it has to be a skin that you want as there are no means of training. What i think most would like to see is how fractal rings are handled , in the sense you can get one through rng quickly or if lucky is not on your side then you can get it through a predictable means such pristine fractals.

But bosses are really unrewarding in normal dungeon, 3 tokens are a joke. Now if it was say 10, dungeons with more bosses may not look so bad. First existing rewards need to scale properly in that the more difficult the path the better reward the path should give…perhaps difficulty is not the proper word to use but a mix of difficulty and length. Perhaps challenge is the word……regardless.

Once you got the token rewards worked out, then you can start adding some more loot drops off the mobs, but at the same time you add a way to obtain them through tokens as an light at the end of the tunnel system.

To take a page from fractals and as someone else mentioned having vertical progression within the dungeon would be nice in that you unlock additional paths after completing other paths or unlocks another set of different dungeon paths . For example using the living story ,once you do SE and CoF explore mode then the new fushion dungeon is unlocked and its paths.

Then there comes difficulty which many of us want is something of a challenge , this is to take a page from fractals again in by having levels of difficulty but not nearly to the extreme of 50 some odd levels because honestly that is just absurd as it makes difficulty between levels to tiny. Lets say for the sake of discussion we have 5 or 10 and each has its resistance it requires (gating mechanic ) but increases in challenge, note i said challenge not difficulty. So none of this just turn the health and damage nobs up but rather mechanics are added and must be followed. Then much the same way pristine fractals exist you can have a similar system by having for example Pristine Symbols of Kodan .

Now you have tiered difficulties, vertical progression, and proper rewards. Then if you want to add a little more then toss in recipes that require items that only come out of that instance much like how mist essence is for fractals.

The real key is vertical progression is something a fair bit of us want, if anything to just have a area that challenges can exist and its ok for it to exists as long as the progression is within the dungeon.

It seems a fair number of NPC’s i have trouble clicking on, it simply doesnt give the option to use my mouse to talk to them. If i press F it works fine however .

It should stay the same, as it’s right now, you can either do a short patch/day and receive 60tokens, this is perfect for casual players, while hc players can get all 180 in 1 day, and due to the fact path 2 and three is longer/harder, they will earn less Gems/Hour than a casual player, which will balance things out. IF you would get a bonus for going the longer paths, then hc players who does all 3/day would be much further in front than the casual players.
Think of it as a “gold sink” to prevent the hc players from getting to far ahead.

Doesnt that go down the drain if you have an Alt or Alts, as you then run the shortest run on a diff character?

I can see where your coming from but it only works when you look at the whole dungeon and are doing the whole dungeon each day(which using HotW as an example most people arnt doing judging by GW2LFG). The other issue with that is that if you dont have the time to commit to others, you will always choose path 1 once you have done the other paths as its most efficient. Just talking from a fun point, i would argue the other paths are less fun as they take longer and thus are less rewarding compared to others path and are less enjoyable as you know the reward is not up to snuff vs the effort.

Its more efficient to use exotics, take the rares you get either salvage to sell ectos or sell on the tp and use that money to get exotics. You then will only get an exotic by putting in an exotics.

I got the hunter by sticking 4 exotic rifles in the first try. I didnt want a legendary at the time (being an engi the quip is ugly) so i sold it and decked my account out instead. Got gems with the money bought bank slots, bag slots, character slots , and some fine transmutation stones.

Now i to want the hammer, and have had no luck. I think the best thing to do is to not go out of your way for it and just let it happen when it does while doing other things.

3 Obsidian Shards for 3 Laurels?

That has to be some kind of joke right? Now before you jump all over me I know you can easily buy Obsidian Shards for karma and that is what I do. But honestly, 3 Obsidian Shards for 3 Laurels? How is that any where near a fair price? 3 days of dailies for 3 obsidian shards? You can get way more than 3 obsidian shards in karma in a single day. No one is ever going to use Laurels to purchase obsidian shards. Why even have such a horrendous ratio like that? Is it supposed to make it appear like we have different ways of getting obsidian shards?

Very simple logic behind this. Laurels where added to dailys , before that all you got was the karma jugs. You are in fact getting more then before as you can spend the laurels and the karma.

I have a different view on dungeon reward. In my view, the reward reflects the path that requires more effort and the easy paths are just icing on the cake.

But that’s just me.

If you are running all 3 each day, then that logic works fine :P

Guild bounties - bounty hunt time

I would like to suggest to add ability to track these NPC that are active similarly to achievement tracking (IE you activate guild bounty tier 2 and u will see list with 3 NPCs on the right side of the screen with timer).
Guild menu is little rusty for this since it has to load your members and then u have to move throu few clicks (nothing to say about its size that is huge just for listing active NPCs)

I’d like to get this added but that portion of the screen is getting a bit crowded. We’re looking into other options as well, such as moving the missions panel to the top level list of tabs or somehow displaying it on the main page.

Top Center when guild mission is active would be my vote. Second spot perhaps right above your skill bar. Right now with the guild mission interface it is behind 3 layers.

But back to the topic at hand i find it hard that 30 people with a tier 3 will find all their targets within the 15 min time window without a stroke a luck.

You telling me your testers tracked down and killed 6 diffrent targets within 15 mins? that sounds completly unrealistic unless you have upward of a hundred people searching at the same time.

As far as 30 vs a T3, yes they were coordinating over voice and guild chat. They absolutely failed plenty of times and they tried lots of different tactics before they found what worked for them. But they were mighty pleased with themselves once they got it done, and that’s exactly the kind of group content that we’re aiming for.

This is where i feel the truth lies in this conversation. It took multiple tier 3 attempts with the 15 mins timers to get it to work, which at least in my mind means there is some luck involved in the process. Some are simply easier to find then others then there is also the time of day factor, where a guild having the same one can be a good or a bad thing depending on your situation. I would argue more of a bad thing when it comes to such a short timer as its more likely they killed it during your hunt.

But what i really think is that this system is going the wrong way. You are adding more bounties to the list which is a good thing but the problem is guild bounty difficulty is increased by amount of bounties which is a #’s game. Rather then the same amount of bounties with harder bosses. Most will see the addition with new bounties to track making it more difficult, i have the feeling people arnt is because of the addition of the training bounties. The method is going to always be find, then wait……………….. keep waiting………… start bounty, kill or move to one you have because its the safest way and has the highest chance of success.

My first precursors was only one try which was the rifle . However i used the mulah to upgrade my account several ways. Now i do the group events to sell rares to fund buying cheap exotics which have a higher chance of giving a precursor which im about 10 in no luck.

Before you continue saying the words “boring”, “easy” and so forth, I would like to point out that GW2’s difficulty is out-of-wack right now. For example, making the dragons do instant kills may not provide the challenge you guys seek, what the dragons really need is more moves, animations, different attacks, a larger health pool, and a system that works like overflow, where only about 30 or so people can fight a dragon in an instance.

If you guys want more difficulty, at least give some explanation as to how that can be accomplished, because when the players request more difficulty, Anet devs go and make it like AC dungeon, where a single tiny spider can kill you with one attack. Please be wise as to what you all request from anet.

I personally separate how difficult and how challenging something is. Something difficult in terms of bosses would be bosses that have mechanics that must be followed through to the T or its an instant wipe, no room for recovering. Challenging would be things like additional mechanics.

Maybe shatterer does have an increase in damage but no health but parts of his armor become weekend (say by NPC artillery ) , then you have to attack the armor quickly enough before it heals to break off, the more you break off he goes intro a frenzy. Once you break X amount of pieces it shatters all the armor and a health bar appears (this point is just killing him).

Fire elemental being of fire drains the oxygen in the room, in the 4 corner of the room there are destroyable walls that you need to break open so you dont die. However its a catch 22 by lowering the oxygen level you weaken the fire elemental by having nothing to consume by yourself takes more and more damage the lower it gets, on the flip side if you have to much oxygen the fire elemental tips the scale and does extra damage.

Just two ideas off the top of my head but honestly, any creature esc boss just look towards monster hunter for ideas. Anything else, look towards some wow boss designs (specific ulduar as it was the best raid). IF you made fights like this you can increase the rewards as they would be challenging.

I’m somewhat just joking but don’t always expect a buff. But your idea is great. If the longer more difficult path can receive a buff I’ll be very happy.

This is what you want:
path 1 -60
path 2-100
path 3-80

What might happen is actually this:
path 1-30
path 2-60
path 3-50

Yeah perhaps, but in my mind i figure if they have gone on with this for this long with the easy path being worth 60 that may not change.

If you have ever done a dungeon you are aware that some paths are easy, others are hard. You are most likely also aware that doing path 1 , 2, or 3 all give the same reward while some easily require more effort or at the very least more time then other paths.

COF and HotW have big glaring examples of this where path 1 is the speed run path. Its simple, the bosses arnt HP sponges or if they are there are simply less bosses, and you can skip alot. What doesnt make sense is that the path rewards the same as the rest, Paths should scale in the amount of tokens you get .

For Example HotW

Path 1- 60
Path 2- 100
Path 3 -80

Path 1 is the easiest and short so it gives the least amount, path 3 somewhere in the middle with path 2 being the longest of the bunch gives the most token. It encourages people to do other paths as time is no longer the sole factor.

This goes into a whole slew of issues with events we have currently where events that are “Epic” in terms of scale but are simple in terms of difficulty reward alot. I mean there are a lot of good events out there, look at the flame legion event or the centaur events where its a large chain and are great events but lack rewards.

< been playing since first beta, and I don’t have exotic armor yet. I’m still enjoying the game.

Like anything else, taking in the journey slowly is more rewarding overall.

I totally agree with you.
- When WoW introduced new expansions, there were always those who maxed the new level cap within the first few days, whereas I think it is more prudent to enjoy the game rather than rushing it.

I don’t feel like I absolutely have to rush to lvl 80 with any of my characters to accommodate those who are already there, and I find it stupid that people expect me to have read up on tactics on the Explorable Mode of dungeons and that I know every path there.
- This is why I play GW2 with a couple of friends. We play in our own pace and it is incredibly fun to do. There are a lot of things to do with your friends, and both Guild Wars 1 and 2 are all the more fun when playing together with others.

Take it slow and enjoy the ride. Rushing is not how any MMO was meant to be played, yet if you did you may experience how no MMO can accommodate to that (look at how easy WoW has become to accommodate this issue) since the incredible amount of new content that would have to be created is simply not possible for the dev team, especially if you are able to complete it all within a few days anyway.

Not to be rude, but your argument to the OP boils down to your playing the game wrong.

It just feels really polarized with those who play the game, there are us who didnt mind the gear grind and others who do. But what i dont gather is why we cant have your cake and eat it to. Fractals are the best example and the model should be expanded upon in where there are multiple levels and vertical gear progression is within the dungeon. It allows everyone to experience it and enjoy and allow people to advance and reach challenging content (something we are lacking)
