I don’t know why one of the achievements is to kill one of each profession. It’s pretty much impossible when PvP consists of nothing but thieves, warriors, and mesmers.
Maybe taking out reinforced gates with pure dps and no siege.
That’s just being stupid, if it was something my server did I would want to keep it a secret.
Does that guy on the treb ever give up?
Spent a good amount of time running around blocking trebuchet shots until I had to leave to start getting ready for work.
a bunch of mobs spawned. We got the sprayers and coated our weapons and started to kill them.
Then, an ancient karka came up. We started to fight him.
And now we’re stuck.
People attack the karka and he gets down to about 70% health… and then just automatically heals himself to full health.
We’ve tried luring him down to the bridge (the event area) but because this is an MMO people are being stupid as hell and won’t leave the area they’re in and keep trying to fight the boss.
Don’t pug. Seriously everytime I pug I end up regretting it, and that’s not even in fotm.
I did an AC explorable, path 2 yesterday with some pugs.
We had a necro that died nonstop. He was dead more than he was alive. A warrior who was just completely useless. An elementalist who was “staff only” (as in, useless) and a mesmer who was decent.
It took us forever to do that dungeon simply because they just kept dying, over and over and over again. And this is the easy path in an easy dungeon.
Most of the rewards comes from chests, and magic find doesn’t affect chest rewards.
It’s a shame the reset had to happen on the same day as the release of the new content.
Fort Aspenwood.
Hacking elementalists.
I’m pretty sure you get more from higher difficulties.
You can get some pretty cheap rare weapons for lower level characters with them.
Hope anet fixes this.
So bored this week. There’s really not much to do, especially with a small group.
I recently blocked someone on a dungeon run. A few minutes later he’s still chatting it up and I can still see everything he says, which was way too much.
Same thing with a guy in my guild. The guy will just simply not shut up so I blocked him, I still see everything he says.
So does this feature work or is it just there for no reason?
Either trolling or just really stupid.
Saying this will not win me any friends, but FA organization is not all that. Regular PUGs are trained to follow commanders and we have a lot of them (commanders and PUGs), but aside from drowning opponents in (often our own) blood I don’t see tactical sophistication or response times that would take FA anywhere near T1.
kitten a lot of fair weather friends transferring, plus a strong night-capping crew. This is the source of FA’s recent victories, not some new-found appreciation of finer points of WvW strategery.
FA belongs in T4, anything above that is bandwagoner effect and zerging.
Just my 2c.
Bandwaggoners?
Strong night-capping crew?
Are you stupid or trolling?
The only thing that has changed lately is we’ve gotten a few guilds to cover our off-peak hours, so that we don’t instantly lose everything on the map the minute NA prime-time is over. We definitely don’t have a “strong night-capping crew” we’re just able to actually hold some of our stuff.
I love how the moment we’re able to actually defend in off-peak hours people say we night-cap. No, not even close. We take stuff in NA primetime, and we’re able to hold onto it at night.
If you can’t leave spawn you can’t take any supply camps/towers now can you?
The goal of WvW is to get the most points. If someone can’t leave spawn to take objectives controlled by our server, then they can’t lower our incoming points.
Would be fine if the gear wasn’t so ugly.
But yea, I WvW a lot, and I’m getting close to about 500 badges. In the time it’s taken me to do that I’ve gotten enough karma to buy a full set of exotics twice, and enough dungeon tokens to buy 3 sets of exotics.
In fact, if you did nothing but WvW then you would get the karma for a full set of exotics before you get enough badges for the Invaders chest.
[JPN] has been around for a while, though they have been more active in WvW lately than usual.
http://mos.millenium.org/matchups#NA just updated. Previous updates projected we would stay as the green server of Tier 4, but now it’s projecting that we will be the blue server of Tier 3! Still very early of course, but it looks like we will get another shot at that tier. Yak’s Bend is the likely server to drop.
I think it’s possible that even if we (YB) won tier 3 this week, we could still drop if the final scores were close enough. That’s crazy.
That’s unfortunate, I was hoping for a rematch.
Look for a bit more burst than that.
So much for a fair fight. Fort Aspenwood was using a hack elementalist. 6 of us were hitting her and she wasn’t going down. In addition, she had pretty much every buff in the game (regen was stacked 10 times) when no one else was near enough to buff her.
I think FA should be disqualified this round for cheating.
Hahahahaha.
Exact same comment was made last week.
It’s not hacking, it’s just a well played, well-geared D/D elementalist.
Mother’s birthday tonight, going to have to miss the opener sadly. But good luck to all servers.
I think the rewards are ok, unless you run around solo a lot for whatever reason you’ll make more than what you spend.
Though I do think they should increase badge of honor drops, or decrease the cost of things you buy with them.
Yea there’s also waypoints. If you can stay out of range of attacks and avoid damage long enough you can leave combat and port to a way point. Not difficult as an elementalist, just switch to air, activate swiftness and run around long enough to use a waypoint.
If you’re looking to get money or karma or experience, there are many methods of getting all of those that are much more efficient.
If you want badges your best bet is to run the 4 jumping puzzles daily and then leave WvW.
People play WvW simply because it’s fun.
This is a terrible idea. There would be no point to do any money generating activity other than daily achievements.
With rendering issues, every class has stealth.
They’re a bit too high I think.
kitten 4 guilds, one 100 man, the JPN guild was 70 plus 2 smaller guilds. ET was hamstrung by an exodus. Yaks has stayed pretty much the same. You can see the wild change in score this week and in ET’s other pairings. Server transfers are still killing WvW . On top of that there is no real incentive for any but the top 4 or 5 servers to do anyting meaningful except to farm karma in WvW. No personal gains, no guild gains, nothing that grinding out a dungeon wont get you.
I doubt we got more than 200 members from transfers over the course of this week.
200 members split between 4 maps is very little.
Yea, not all karma farm chains are good for farming gold.
Basically you want to equip a full magic find set and then go find some events that spawn waves of mobs that you can AOE to death for easy gold. A good amount of karma farm groups do these events but there are some that are great for karma but not so good for gold (straits of devastation)
Plinx is great for gold but the other events that go on around that area (broodmother in particular) aren’t that good for gold.
If you’re on at the right time, then the event to open up Arah is great.
Start out by doing the salvage scrap metal event. Contribute 2 scraps and then run over to crusader angaria. That event is bugged and will constantly spawn mobs you can just spam AOEs with.
After that you go and kill the giant.
Then you move to the middle. Try to stay by the stairs so you can tag as many mobs as possible, let others deal with the eye.
Now at this point you’ll either fail or succeed. If you fail then go back to anchorage and do the event to defend that, which involves a ton of mobs you can AOE. Then you repeat the whole process.
My thief is starting to get up in levels (45 atm) fairly quickly through a combination of AC explorable and WvW as well as some crafting.
I want to build my thief for mostly WvW, usually running with smaller groups with the occasional attacking/defend structures.
I figured I would go ahead and start farming explorable mode on my elementalist for the armor so I’d like to go ahead and get settled on a build.
Fun week, sadly I just don’t see us taking the lead after the huge deficit we started our comeback push with, but the fact that we were behind a huge amount (I believe 120k at the most?) and turned it into what I predict to be a 40k deficit by the end, is pretty cool.

In large groups in WvW, it’s completely about the staff. Attacking structures, defending them, etc. Meteor storm and healing rain alone are amazing.
That’s…. really it though. It has a few other uses but I have seen very few other instances where staff was superior to D/D, S/D, S/F
How about any group support role, dungeons, large events, general zergging….?
Soloing with staff is on par with any other weapon too, different but just as effective.Staff is pretty awesome weapon….i don´t understand how people get the idea that it sucks at just about everything.
Group support maybe, but only if it’s a group 10+
It’s terrible for dungeons. Seriously if you use it in dungeons you’re one of the reasons people are reluctant to take elementalists. Scepter/Focus is far superior in dungeons, offering more damage, more CC, and more utility.
I’m not sure which “large events” you’re talking about. If you mean the big events in Orr that spawn tons of mobs then D/D and S/D are much better as with a staff you won’t be able to tag that many mobs due to cooldowns/longer cast times.

Except the trading post doesn’t offer all stat combinations.
I just wish they wouldn’t run so often. It seems like half the time I want to do CoF it’s contested.
Something I’ve noticed in this game is that there really isn’t a huge use for gold other than a legendary or a commanders book.
Buying armor with gold is only if you’re lazy, have plenty of gold, and you want the stats that crafted armor can give you.
But for the the most part buying armor with gold is a terrible idea. If you’re not interested in saving karma for a legendary then using karma to buy gear in Orr is much better, and it covers a wider range of stats. Explorable mode dungeons is probably the best way to obtain armor. Buying armor with gold (crafted armor) is pointless as it’s overpriced, and doesn’t even cover all the different stat combinations possible. Half my P/V/T light gear came from Orr karma gear, the other half from AC explorable.
So there’s just the runes, unless you want divinity runes (which aren’t that great) then 6 superior runes are easily obtained with a handful of gold. I got 6 superior runes of melandru for under 3 gold.
Same for weapons. Weapons that you get from explorable mode look better, don’t cost any gold, and offer a superior range of stats.
So then you have accessories. About 10 gold on exotics will get you 4 of them (rings/earrings) as well as a different gem in them if that’s what you want. Throw in a few extra gold for the amulet and you’re set.
So armor/weapons is easily obtained from explorable mode. Accessories are really the only part of your gear you should be spending money on.
Now that I just got my Triforge pendant, which was the only part of my gear that I spent a lot on, I have nothing to do with my gold. I don’t feel like going for a legendary or a commander book so I don’t really have anything. Then it’s just repairs/waypoints/gambling.
I wish we had more cosmetics or something to spend money on. Stuff like town clothes (current selection is tiny and looks awful)
It’s definitely not like we suddenly have some amazing night team or anything.
I think it’s more like, we went from losing EVERYTHING at night, to being able to hold some of the map.
Why are you dying so much?
And the daily isn’t for the 5 silver, it’s for the mystic coin and the jug of karma.
Mesmer or Ele.
Elementalist can equip a staff and defend/assault a structure and be incredibly useful with meteor storm/healing rain/static field, and then switch to D/D for smaller fights and become a monster.
Just did AC explorable on my thief.
My thief is level 37 (started at 35) and is using random level 35 fine/masterwork gear.
I was with two level 80s, a level 64, and a level 43.
We did path 1 and 2, I would have done 3 but I wanted to get back to WvW.
We did not use voice chat or anything like that, it was just a random group of people.
It’s a start but I wouldn’t say a 70 member guild japanese guild and a 150 member EU guild is going to be enough to give us decent night coverage.
Where I live all the local elementary/middle/high schools are closed for today (most are being used as a polling place)
At the university classes “technically” are still going on but most professors cancelled class for the day.
I gotta say I’ve never seen anyone camp their own jumping puzzle before.
Especially while they lose everything on their BL.
I think a large part of it might be that there’s no school today in the US, so a lot of people who would be in class right now are online.
I swear these Yak’s are probably the biggest pain the kitten to kill. Everytime you down one 4+ run up and start healing while a mesmer does that thing that blocks projectiles.
For some reason Yak’s Bend thieves always catch me with my staff equipped. When I’m using D/D or S/D then I can usually handle thieves, but with staff I’m boned.
As a reminder to help people stay on Topic, and away from “You are Just Bad”
This is about how the Dungeons are over powered for AVERAGE players.
If you change your spec specificly for a Dungeon you are not Average
If you select gear specificly for dungeons, you are not Average
If you are a level 80 running lower level dungeons (Yes I know you are Downleveled) You are not average (You have more trait points then is “expected” for that level.)
If you “Run them all the time” you are not Average
If you have the “perfect” group for the dungeon, you are DEFINATLY not Average. The Average Player is:
First time in AC Story (It is the First dungeon)
Casual Dungeon Runner (1-2 a week, perhaps a few more on weekends)
Not an absolute Expert in their class
Not “perfectly” spec’d
Rare Armor at best
Not a Tactical Genious
Not using Voice Chat
Not capable of mid fight chattingHope that helps.
Except that’s not average, that’s below average.
