Maybe people should run more than just AC and CoF
Very disappointed in CD.
Was in the jump puzzle. The path forward was blocked by 2 CD. I tried to challenge them to send one to fight me one on one.
Unfortunately I was simply too intimidating for them, and both came down to 2 v 1.
Fortunately I’m on my thief and thief’s never die so I just used shadow refuge to run out of combat and waypoint away.
For shame CD, for shame. Where’s your sense of fun?
Ele or Mesmer.
Until the changes are actually implemented (and even after then) they’re subject to change.
If anet says something and it turns out to not happen then the massive forum QQ would be unbearable.
(edited by Wasabi Kitty.8247)
Because anet wants this game to be accessible which means they have to dumb it down for people.
Lets look at one boss that’s somewhat remotely challenging.
Giganticus Lupicus.
It’s really not a hard fight. For phase 1 you group up and kill any grubs that he spawns.
During phase 2 you kill the initial grub. From that point on you DPS him down. When he charges to you, you dodge. When he uses his giant AOE, you either avoid the incoming attacks, or you block them.
During phase 3 you just avoid his easy as hell to avoid attacks, dodge roll out of the circle he places you in.
It’s really not that difficult, and yet people fail it all the time. A lot of people completely avoid arah because of the fight because they think it’s “too hard”
The simple fact is anet won’t put any difficult fights or interesting mechanics in, because too many people won’t be able to handle it.
If ascended rings were just soulbound on use and could be sold……
Then the forums would be filled with people complaining about how they have to buy gems to get gold for their ascended rings, and how some people are able to unfairly able to make lots of gold selling rings because they were lucky enough not to disconnect getting to level 10 and how they’re stuck on level 4 unfairly which is the fault of someone else.
Story mode is a path.
You know why a grind was introduced with the ascended backs?
BECAUSE YOU ASKED FOR IT.
From 2 weeks after the game was released, up until the announcement of the lost shores update, the forums was nothing but comments of “I’m at endgame and I’m bored cause I’m level 80 with full exotics and I don’t have anything to do except go for a legendary, I need something to work towards”
You asked anet for a grind because you whined about being 80 with full exotics and nothing to do, anet then introduces a grind and you throw it in their faces going “WE DONT WANT THIS!”
(edited by Wasabi Kitty.8247)
1. If you’re a fan of the lore then I think they contribute a lot to the lore of the game
2. To unlock access to exploreable mode
3. Dungeon master achievement.
It’s a good thing you aren’t forced to do monthly achievements then.
I’ve grown rather tired of this excuse.
“X is optional, therefore it’s totally okay for it to go against the developer’s expressed policies towards MMO design.”
No, it’s not.
ANet came forward with a bold new approach to MMOs, almost judgmentally telling everyone else how MMOs are supposed to be made. And that’s fine if you put your money where your mouth is. But ANet didn’t do that.
If they don’t want players grinding the dungeons at endgame, maybe they shouldn’t make players feel like they’re forced to grind dungeons at endgame by putting Fractals everywhere they look.
Yes, you’re right. It’s optional. But it’s still against the policies they laid out for how MMOs are supposed to be designed. So they made a bunch of claims about how their MMO would be different, but then didn’t really fulfill those promises. It’s time for them to put up or shut up. Take Fractals out of monthly achievements and introduce Ascended gear elsewhere. Don’t make players feel like they’re obligated to run Fractals. I’m fine with running Fractals, but other people have already decided they hate it, and it makes no sense to keep trying to talk them into doing something they know they don’t like.
If 7 fractals is a grind for you, then the problem lies between keyboard and chair.
Nobody is forcing you to do any higher level fractal mate. It’s not hard to find a group for level one and two. They are very easy speed runs.
This has been beaten to death about a thousand times.
No one cares about the difficulty, that is not the crux of the complaint. The jumping puzzles one is easy too, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good achievement either.
The complaint is that the ANet devs have been saying that they did not want to make players feel forced into doing content they don’t enjoy. They have been directly quoted as saying that they don’t want us to “just grind dungeons at endgame”.
Yet Fractals has been obligatory to obtain monthly achievements since its release back in November. And it’s still the only place in the game to obtain the items necessary for Ascended gear. So we’re still being forced to grind dungeons at endgame, precisely what they promised would not be the case.
It’s time for them to pick a new achievement, implement Ascended gear in other places, and move on. Fractals is never going to be popular with some people and there’s no sense continuing to try and talk people into doing it.
It’s a good thing you aren’t forced to do monthly achievements then.
Why do people feel like the monthly is required? Is 20 mystic coins and 10 jugs of karma really THAT game breaking?
Last month I wasn’t interested in killing toys by either running tixx or running around finding the large gifts.
So I didn’t do it. I didn’t want to do it and I didn’t do it. And I’m doing just fine without 20 mystic coins and 10 jugs of karma.
A fair amount of work?
AC gear is a joke to farm.
If they do the following: PvE=Dungeons, it only means ANet we GW1 vets know and love is gone.
So no further dungeons!!! Leave that to other games(remember the time when there were none in GW1? It was so awesome). If you just look at Warriors n Guardians rock! PvE movement it is only caused by simple existence of dungeons…
Yes, because if I don’t want it, NO ONE CAN HAVE IT
No. Just because you personally don’t want more dungeons doesn’t mean they shouldn’t add more.
Personally I hope to see:
- New fractals
- Next wave of ascended gear
- More structured pvp options
- More changes to WvW to make it more competitive and less “who has more numbers and who can put up better coverage”
- More non-Orr level 80 open world areas
Just salvaged 15 greens (level 80s) with a mystic kit, no ectos.
Obviously it’s all about getting them addicted to having bank space, so they’ll want even more.
But the thing is, there really isn’t any problem with the current model. You’re just making it into a problem. Who are you to say that the current model needs fixing? If you claim it’s broken, can I claim it’s fine as it is?
Casual players cannot be expected to just “jump into WvW” and earn 50 kills, and most casual players (we’re talking real casual players here, mind, not the folks like myself who SAY they’re just casual players but have several Lvl 80s and well over 600 hours logged since the game’s release) will not be very good at Fractals either.
I don’t think you really know what a casual player is.
Not very good at fractals? Have you done a level 1/2 fractal? It’s incredibly easy. Any CASUAL player would be able to get through it well before the end of the month.
Most casual players can easily get 50 kills in WvW. You can get 50 kills in under an hour, hell in the right conditions you can get it in under 20 minutes.
Just a few minutes ago I got about 15-20 kills using daggerstorm once in a large fight at a supply camp
If 50 kills is too many for you, if level 1/2 fractals are too much for you, then you aren’t a “casual player,” you’re a bad player.
Is it realistic to run fractals before lvl 80? This is my gripe with the monthly.
Yes, just make sure you let any prospective parties know.
I’ve run tons of guidies through level 1/2/3.
You can’t be serious.
How much are you dying? How often are you using waypoints?
All you have to do is not waypoint everywhere and die constantly and you’ll get plenty of coins. And it’s hard on mid levels?
When I was 50/60 I kept getting more gold than I knew what to do with. I had a full set of rares for level 80 by the time I was 70. I usually had at least 10 gold on me.
its the wvw that pisses me off… i don’t want to spend time in a pvp where you cannot have more than 20fps during zergs. Optimize your game before making me play a slide show!
they both make me angry because i didnt buy this game to run dungeons OR be forced into pvp!
Because a Monthly Achievement is totally required.
I swear, people are willing to complain about ANYTHING.
It’s something you quickly learn from these forums.
No matter what Anet puts in for the monthly achievements, people will complain about it.
Fractals? I hate fractals! Stop putting them in the monthly!
WvW? I hate PvP! Stop putting it in the monthly!
Dungeons? I hate dungeons! Stop putting it in the monthly.
A very vocal portion of these forums seem to enjoy nothing but making new alts and running around the low level areas. And there’s nothing wrong with that. I just wish they would stop thinking that everything should revolve around them.
The monthly achievements aren’t supposed to focus on just one thing. They’re SUPPOSED to take you out of your comfort zone. They’re SUPPOSED to encourage you to try something new.
Instead you just whine about how you have to do something new.
-snip-
-snip-
You both need to read what I’ve said more carefully and put more thought into your replies.
People who do not like Fractals should not be forced to play in Fractals. Just as those who dislike WvW should not be forced to play in WvW.
Daily achievements can be completed virtually ANYWHERE in the game. So why are monthly achievements forcing people to play in content they don’t like? They need to be restructured to be more friendly to the casual audience.
You aren’t forced into fractals. You don’t HAVE To do the monthly.
I didn’t do mine last month because I couldn’t be bothered to kill enough toys. I’ll live without it.
There’s always people who are going to complain about some part of the monthly. They need to learn to deal with it.
These people wouldn’t be happy unless the monthly consisted of nothing but running around lions arch picking daisys.
Will there ever be a monthly without the fractals again?
This is the question that REALLY needs to be answered.
I find Fractals fun to play, but I don’t want it to be forced on me every single month to complete the monthly reqs.
It’s 7 Fractals guys. As in run 1 and 2 and you’re done.
If you REALLY don’t want to have to spend too much time doing them, you could just get a group of people and do level 1 fractals. Then just restart till swamp, complete it then restart, until you have 7. Seeing as how swamp at level 1 takes like 5 minutes, you could easily get it done in under an hour.
People just like to complain about anything and everything that might have them actually play the game.

ok so all you need to do is go to the JP area and it pops as a count? going LA to try the 3 there and confirm. another dodgy monthly by anet if not… AND please get the WvW the F out of our PvE monthly…. thanks
I fail to see where it’s labeled as “PvE monthly” mind pointing it out for me?
If there is a PvP monthly clearly stated then is it wrong to consider the other Pve? or do we have a "Mush"monthly and a PvP monthly??
We have a structured pvp monthly (that gives rewards strictly for spvp) and a monthly that covers the other aspects of the game.
Mobs do slightly more damage/have slightly more health.
It’s a fairly minor change, but it is somewhat noticeable. I’ve seen groups fail at 16/17/18 that would have succeeded at level 10.

It counts if you’ve already done it.
You also don’t have to actually finish the jumping puzzle. I just poked my head into obsidian sanctum in WvW and got credit for it.
That’s amazing, I should drop a few gold on some of those.
Also on a slightly related note: this will make odd numbered fractals (1/3/5/7/9) completely pointless as no one will run them.
Good ridance then.
Also, the drops are individual, it’s very easy for the game to give level 1 drops for a level 1 player in a level 30 fractal run.
Did you code this game? If not then you have no idea of how “easy” it is for a level 30 fractal monster to give level 1 drops to a level 1 player, while still giving level 30 drops to the level 30 player.
I dunno about now. I got a mystic salvage kit like 3 months ago, and another 3 mystic forge stones. (bought a set of 5, got 1 from daily achievements)
This is back when gems were much cheaper, I dunno if you’d want to get one now.
My point is, people are not going to want to do fractals far above their tier. Why would I want to put myself through a level 30 fractal just to get from tier 5 to tier 6? People keep thinking that all these tier 1’s ‘noobz’ are suddenly going to be wanting in their tier 30-40 groups. I just don’t see that happening. When I start putting my alt into fractals I’ll be looking for the quickest and easiest route to gaining levels.
For better drops.
@OP
I think the developers have considered this since it’s been heavily discussed since the announcement.

It went from around 0.9 ectos per rare (with a mystic kit) to 0.81
You can’t seriously expect people to read something.

Keep a collection to show off.
Do you have any proof that it was their intention not to be able to sell group slots?
People ran others through instances all the time in guild wars 1 for money. Knowing that they could have put something in to stop that from happening here, but they didn’t. They choose not to prevent you from being able to sell dungeon slots.
Waypoint costs are fine, 2-3 silver is nothing unless you’re using a waypoint every 2 minutes.
Explain why we need wp costs at all.
(And don’t say the server economy will explode, a favourite answer of the wp cost are ok lobby).
Because it’s a coin drain.
Waypoint costs are fine, 2-3 silver is nothing unless you’re using a waypoint every 2 minutes.
Because everything you don’t agree with must be an exploit and against what the devs intended right?
The problem starts when 3-4 people skip and hte last 1-2 persons stay to kill the mobs and get killed. then start dying when trying to skip.
When this happens I just kick them. If the majority agrees to something and you decide “kitten them, I do what I want” then I’m going to kick you.
If someone is really spending real life cash on gems to buy gold to buy a legendary off the trading post, then I feel bad for him.
As of right now the cheapest legendary weapon I see available is the bolt, for 3333 gold.
Currently 100 gems is 1 gold 75 silver. Let’s pretend there are no fees for selling gems (there are)
That means you need 190457 gems to get that much gold (rounded)
With the largest bulk option you get 4000 gems for $50.00
That means to buy the cheapest legendary on the trading post right now (bolt) you need $2,308.
When you add in trading post fees you’re probably looking at around $2,5000.
Do you REALLY think that someone out there is spending that much on a legendary weapon? I highly doubt it. And if there is someone spending that much on a legendary, I feel bad for him.
I know DOZENS of people who spend $1000+ on F2P games -.-
Yes, in the last MMO I played there were several people who spent $5,000 + and a few who even spent $10,000+
The difference is that in those games they got a statistical advantage. They got gear so strong that very, very few people could compete against them.
I don’t know anyone who has spent that much on cosmetics.

OP has been updated.
ITT: People who don’t know what pay to win means.
If Anet offered gear in the gem store that was more powerful than anything you could get in the game, that would be pay to win.
If Anet sold gear in the gem store that was incredibly powerful and the only way to get it in game was to grind for YEARS (literally) then that would be pay to win.
This game is not pay to win in any regards.
Only time I’ve rejected someone because of their level is when they didn’t meet the minimum level requirements for a dungeons (like a level 27 in ac explore)
Why do people think everything they don’t agree with needs to be “fixed”?
I see that there is some resistance to the notion of doing Dungeons for enough tokens to get armor and wanted to offer an alternative with a method to make life a little easier:
Karma Armor from Orr:
For many people, the notion of getting Karma armor seems like an invitation to grind DEs until DR kicks in and then wander on to a chain of missery that does not end for a goal that seems unobtainable. This does not have to happen. How to get Karma Armor the easy way:
Step 1: Do the daily achievement every day. There are 2 things you’re looking to get out of this, the first one is the Jug of Karma, the second one is the Mystic Coin. Save both of these! The daily achievement means you only need to do 5 events, and you can pick them up anywhere. If you’re down on Orr, it’s fast, but I find that I chain low level characters through DEs in Harathi Hinterlands or Sparkfly Fen frequently…. If you really need DEs for the daily, the lvl 1-15 zones have events up frequently, so you can always go back to pick up events there. Bonus, you will also get Karma from these events, at 300ish Karma per event, 5 events daily will net you 1500 Karma.
The daily achievement also requires you to gather. If you’ve hit 80, or are close, I encourage you to get mithril / orichalcum if able, and elder / ancient wood when available as well. Swing the pick and axe a few times and you’re set.
Step 2: Do the monthly achievement. Personally, I’m kind of fail at this one because I don’t WvW much. But, it’s worth it… 10 Jugs of Karma and 20 mystic coins, right there! Oh, and of course, you can get Karma and finish your events (maybe your gathers…) while doing WvW.
Step 3: (Optional) Obtain a Karma booster. If the gods of RNG have been kind to you, you may have gotten one as a reward from a daily, or a key from a daily and you’ve gotten one from a quest. For myself, I converted Gold -> Gems when I did this and it cost approx 1.3G at the time. If that feels like a lot, skip this step, it is OPTIONAL, but, if you look at 1.3g for a full set of exotic armor…. that’s cheaper than a single piece on the TP, so I call it a win.
How many jugs do you need? Well, a full set of exotic armor is 252,000 Karma, so now for the math:
1500 Karma per day for events X 30 days doing dailies = 45,000 Karma
4,500 per Jug from dailies X 30 days = 135,000 Karma
4,500 per Jug from the monthly x 10 jugs = 45,000 KarmaAll that gets you 225,000 Karma, 5 more days of doing dailies for the Jugs will get you the rest that you need (1500 × 5 + 4500 x5) with a little to spare.
So, one month of doing nothing but logging on to do your daily and doing the monthly. Be out in the world, play the game, have fun! But wait…. remember that Karma booster? Here’s the math with the Karma booster:
1 Jug w/ booster = 6,750 Karma
23 Jugs from dailies = 155,250
10 Jugs from the monthly = 67,500
Karma from the 5 events x day = 34,500Total Karma = 257,250, congrats, you’ll have a little left over and have earned a complete set of exotic armor in 23 days…. BTW, this can be further reduced with the guild karma boost and the guild karma banner allowing you to get over 7K karma per jug.
Of course, you may have more Karma in your starting pool, further reducing the number of Jugs needed.
The OP has already linked a great resource at Dulfy.net for figuring out which temple set you want, remember the looks are the same but the stats are different. Once you have the karma, keep an eye on Orr for the temple you want to open up, or, hang out down there and clear it yourself when able. GL and happy hunting!
Great post, if you don’t mind I’ll add it to the original post.
what about runes or sigils?
Mentioned in the original post.
Since we’re on the subject of infusions, can somebody explain to me the use of offensive infusions? The cost of making such an infusion seems too high for its’ benefits. For example the Malign Infusion grants +5 condition damage, and +5 agony resistance, but requires a huge amount of materials to make. While a versatile simple infusion gives you the same agony resist without the negligible condition damage for 75 fractal pieces. Why would I choose an offensive or defensive infusion if I can easily buy one from Deesa?
I guess if every other part of your gear is as good as it’s going to get, might as well.
Got 2 black lion salvage kits in a row a couple weeks ago.
We need an easier way of using consumable items such as ash legion spy kits than opening your inventory and using it.
