“Hey congrats on finishing this area! Here’s a basic transmutation stone that’s useless since you’re level 80!”
Only ele elites that are worth using are Hounds of Balthazar and whirlwind in very few situations.
Nothing wrong with grinding, it’s just that now the rewards for chests from long event chains and for killing bosses are so bad that there’s no point to doing them.
When you go to Orr and see that all the temples are contested and wonder why, this is the reason why.
There’s no real reason to do them. The only reason to control temples is if you want to buy the karma gear. And there’s usually not enough people who need to buy the karma gear online for it to happen.
Only bosses that I think take too long are the ones that heal themselves, like the one at the end of path 1 in CoF.
It seems like a decent tactic to me. Send ~10 people to a jump puzzle to keep people from finishing it. You cut them off from their supply of siege gear and force them to use badges or gold to get it. Less siege gear on the opponent server is always good.
My first server was Borlis pass, but I switched to Maguuma since most of my friends were on there.
The most fun seems to be in the middle of the rankings. Everywhere else it’s just the same 3 servers every week. Had a blast last week playing against Yak’s Bend and EB
+1
OP, you had all the sympathy you needed after saying that. The elementalist just can’t handle Orr very easily and it ends up costing far more than you will ever earn.
Uhm, what?
I’m an ele and I don’t really have any issues in Orr. That is, no more than everyone else.
I’ve gone through pretty much every area solo without issues. Except the maze. kitten that maze.
I don’t think any class really stands above others, or any class is below others. Every class can be useful at everything if they can play well.
- I did couple of instances guess those are dungeons, random gear drops on SM mode.
- Are there raid instances? More than 5man?
There are no instances that take more than 5 people. There is explorer mode that’s more challenging than story mode, it gives you tokens you can use to buy level 80 exotic gear (or random lower level rares but that’s a waste of tokens)
- Most of my gear is level 40-60. Where can I get some decent pve gear?
- Crafting- 225 huntsman -50 leatherworker.
Wow, that’s… really really outdated, just buy some level 80 gear on the trading post, any quality would be better than that. Your ultimate goal is 80 exotics with the specific stats you want.
- To lvl my trade skills I need gold, only made 10g so far. I see stuff on AH for 150g +. How the hell and where can I make that much gold? All the stuff that drops is vendor trash since ah price is 1 copper more than vendor price. Only stuff worth selling is crafting materials.
Just do.. stuff. Anything in Orr gives a bit of a reward. Hell everything gives some reward or another. Just do some events. Grab any orichalcum or ancient wood logs you can find they sell for like 2 silver each.
– Magic find gear- I sow online that you need it so when you take things apart better crafting materials drops. Where and how to get it?
It’s not necessary. If you must have it then buy Traveler’s armor from the trading post (level 80 rare) and use 5 superior runes of the pirate and 1 superior rune of the traveler or vice versa. Use omnomberry’s for another 40%. Oh and grab Opal mithril accessories (don’t get higher than masterwork)
– I did not finish my class story jet- just took down some ship thing atm. think got much more to go?
A lot
Currently there’s no real reason to do any dynamic event that isn’t centered around “several waves of mobs come, kill them all”
You just AOE a ton of mobs and run around picking up constant crafting mats that can go from anywhere to 80 copper to 3 silver each. Tons of salvage items, whites and blues that sell for around 1 silver to a vendor, greens that sell for 2 silver +, and rares that can be salvaged for 0-3 ectos that can be sold for ~17 silver each and are used to make exotic gear. The rewards are pretty kitten good. They got nerfed a bit recently but they’re still pretty good.
Why would you ever do any bosses? They’re long, they actually require thinking that’s more than just SPAM EVERY AOE. And the rewards suck. You kill a boss and get the normal amount of karma, a little under 2 silver, and if you’re lucky the boss might drop 1 item that’s the same as what normal mobs drop. The rewards are pretty crappy.
And the chests. I’m talking about reward chests that you get after a long meta event. Such as the ones you get for clearing a temple in Orr. They give like 4 items on average. Usually it’s all blues. If you’re lucky you’ll get a green. That’s pretty much it.
Lets take Lyssa in Melchor’s Leap for example.
It’s one of the more difficult events. It takes a decent amount of people to accomplish. And it takes a bit of coordination. It’s not explorer mode challenging (though explorer mode hasn’t been that hard for me, at least not in CoF.)
For those who don’t know. It starts out with 3 areas you have to control. Risen hold these 3 points and you have to go in and clear all the risen and hold it for an amount of time. After you do that you control that area, but you have to leave a couple of defends to hold it, because the risen try to take it back. Now when you control all 3 points you’re able to drop the shields around Lyssa. Then you go in and fight Lyssa which is actually one of the more challenging boss fights in the game. She has one move in particular that dazes anyone that looks at her, and spawns a bunch of mobs. All this time you have to maintain control over the 3 points or the shield goes back up. Eventually you kill Lyssa which takes control of the temple and all that entitles (deactivating those annoying statues, karma vendor spawns, etc.) and a chest spawns. You go to the chest and get like 3 blues.
The most rewarding part of that? The very first part where you AOE down mobs on the point. That’s the most rewarding part of the entire event. And it doesn’t even have that many mobs spawn.
It’s completely backward. I should feel rewarded for taking the temple. Finishing it and ending the last part should be the best part in every way, including rewards.
Take the plinx event in Cursed Shore. It’s one of the more popular events in that area since it gives great rewards and isn’t infested with bots.
You basically defend a guy from waves of mobs as he repairs his suit. You then follow him to a drop zone while fighting waves of mobs. You then hold an area while fighting, you guessed it, waves of mobs. You then run to a nearby area where you fight a TON of mobs.
It gives great rewards. You get like 8 silver alone from the DE reward. You also get like 60-80 silver from drops. If you salvage a rare and get lucky with 3 ectos that’s more than 1 gold from one chain. And it can be done in under 5 minutes!
The area you finish at. There’s a boss that spawns nearby. Champion Risen Abomination if I recall correctly. No one ever does it.
When you do it’s kind of dumb. Depending on how many are there you can do it in about 5 to 10 minutes. Also it’s prone to bugging out where it runs to an area which makes it become invincible and walk, slowly, to it’s original position.
So you complete this boss. He’s not exactly difficult but it takes a while and you do actually have to pay attention (if you get caught not paying attention and he aggros you can die)
And in the same time as the plinx event, or longer you get… pretty much nothing. You get the standard 2 silver and some exp/karma but you got 4 times that from the rewards alone in the plinx chain. You get no drops. Or if you’re really lucky you can get a random 18 copper junk item.
They really need to increase rewards from bosses and chests. Bosses usually give nothing and when they do give something it’s usually just crap. Chests usually just give around 3 blues.
Level 80 here with not that many money problems.
I can afford pretty much everything I want without much issues. I can’t exactly get a commander book or a triforge pendant or a legendary weapon, but almost everything else is in my means.
Today I spent 10 gold on about 250 Opal orbs for the Emerald pendant (the power/tough/vit one)
I guess it’s because of how I’m getting my gear? Most of my weapons are crafted except my dagger, which I spent about 1 gold on, along with 50 skill points and 30 mystic coins.
Other than that getting 2 sets of gear basically. 5 pieces are the 42k karma pieces from orr karma vendors. The legs have the same stats but I’m getting them from badges of honor (no karma vendor in orr sells light legs with those stats) and transmuting them with CoF gear. So really just need karma, skill points, and CoF tokens for it.
I’d like to know for sure rather than risk 5 gold.
Please give us weaponswap that only works out of combat!

I would like it but I wouldn’t want it to be high priority for Anet.
It’d be nice to run around WvW and be able to switch from Staff to Dagger/Dagger more easily, or to run around in dungeons and switch from scepter/dagger to scepter/focus easily.
In CoF gear doesn’t make a huge difference.
Only part that it might matter on is in path 2 where you’re doing death row (taking turns kiting as long as you can before dying) but even then you’re probably just buying a second or two, though sometimes that is the difference between going down and having your heal up to kite another 15 seconds.
I’m 99% sure it doesn’t. Only thing that influences what you get from salvage is which kit you use.
If you’re in a guild and buy one of the level 80 backs that cost 5 gold and then leave said guild, are you still able to use the back?
If I had paid $200 it would still be worth my money, and then some.
Tybalt.
The quest where you infiltrate a group of pirates had me cracking up.
Loot is only related to damage done when determining if you do enough damage to “tag” the mobs.
So the server I’m on managed to secure pact control of Arah last night. The karma vendor was there but I was a little bit short of getting a new piece.
Played some WvW for a bit and hit 42k karma. I returned to arah and….
There was no karma vendor.
I’m sitting right outside of there now and the NPC, Crusader Benson, is not here.
Here’s a screenshot:
There’s a lot of really bad ele’s out there making the rest of us look bad.
I’ve seen so many that run into dungeons using a staff (never use a staff in dungeons) that don’t even have another weapon to switch to.
Yea, I’m aiming for a set of light gear for my ele with power/toughness/vitality, and there are no legs with those stats. At least not from karma vendors.
Uhm, I farmed dynamic events in cursed shore today for about 2 hours without hitting any sort of “cap” where I stopped getting rewards.
Oh and they were the same event (path of arah, we failed like 3 times before we succeeded)

Just wait for the DE to start.
You can do perfectly fine in dungeons wearing magic find.
If you’re getting squashed wearing magic find, you’ll get squashed wearing any other gear, because you’re standing in the bad that’s squashing you either way.
I disagree. When I switch from my Power/Precision/MF gear to my Power/Vitality/Toughness gear it makes a significant difference.
2. Issue: the events feel Pee Wee league and don’t suck the player in. The lore falls apart in motivating us. It feels like the place is just a bunch of garbage piles. There should be a recolonizing effort or a power or something important, besides lazy soldier outposts that don’t even help you do anything. The rest of GW2 works on building up region so much that you can’t just quit doing that at Orr… it’s like going back to an “old” MMO…
Have you done any of the chapel events?
I beat Lyssa this morning and it was great. Really just everything I was looking for in terms of dynamic events. Takes a decent group of people and decent coordination. Easily one of the best events in the game.
I like the maps, but the risen are annoying, and so think that it makes doing simple tasks like farming materials a huge pain in thekitten
“Oh look some Orichalcum!”
DEATH, GOOD!
4 Risen suddenly on me.
I’ve been fighting risen since level 50, I’d like to see some new enemies.
I don’t think you have any idea what I’m talking about.
So as I was going through Straits of Devastation I participated in what is known there as the “zerg”
A large group of people running around chaining events nonstop.
I did it and found that the reward kind of, well, sucked. It was really only good for the Karma, but even then I could get better Karma rewards in WvW and get medals of honor.
The gold rewards were mediocre, same gold you would get for any other event. Due to the chaining and fast completion times you got it slightly more often. But the gold reward were still incredibly mediocre. The best gold comes from events where waves of minions spawn, and you can just AOE them all. The only events where that happens in that chain is the chopper event, and antimage event. Giant spawns grubs but it’s a small amount and grubs don’t seem to have very good drops.
So, why? The gold is mediocre. The Karma isn’t that great. The only reason I can think of is XP, but I see many 80s doing the events.
Meanwhile Melchors Leap is empty with 3 people trying to kill Lyssa for an hour before giving up due to no one participating.
I saved or used all crafting materials I got (got 400 artificing last night for about 60 silver)
When I hit level 80 I had a full set of magic find gear (full travelers set, 5 runes of pirate, one rune of traveler, 5 opal mithril accessories, and a magic find sigil) and plenty of gold to spare.
Why do you even need gold? Once you have a good set of exotics you’re pretty much set for gear, anything more is just cosmetic.
None unless you go a few years back. Before GW2 I played (and still play) League of legends, Dota 2, and Team Fortress 2.
Why would you restrict yourself to earth/fire?
Ele is probably the best class for Zerg events in Orr. I love it when a large groups of mob spawns and my Dragon’s Tooth, Ring of fire, Phoenix, Fire grab combo kills a good amount and makes sure I get credit for every spawn.
A lot of it stems from people playing with staff elementalists. I did CM first with a staff ele and she was beyond useless. I asked her to switch to Scepter/Focus or Scepter/Dagger (I was using S/F) and she didn’t even have a scepter because she was “Staff only”
Those people are the ones that gives Elementalists a bad name.
Provided they work as stated, then 10% by far, once you get to a level where you get more than 100 xp per kill.
You don’t know how to play an ele
Main issue is that most Gold Sellers are using hacked accounts, so when they identify one I think they try to return access of the account back to the original owner.
Still not working.
I’m just sitting here in this cave unable to progress. I’ve cleared every monster. It says I need to escort the research squad south out of the caves, but they’re just standing around.
Furthermore 2 of the Priory members appear to have died, and are unable to be ressed, might be part of the problem.
Seems to have been fixed with last nights patch.
It’s not like you need it.
That’s what I love about this game. In another MMO the game would get to the point that competing in PvP meant you have to have it to stand a chance, whereas in this game it just makes you look pretty and stand out.
The skill point in the northern area of the map at Shattered Keep seems to be bugged.
Myself and several others have gone over ever inch of that area and skill point is simply not there. Apparently there is an NPC you need to talk to, but the NPC seems to be bugged. You can see the NPC talking in chat but isn’t physically there.
Cooking is fine, you just can’t get it to 400 with nothing more than a bit of Karma anymore.
My collectibles section is full of ingredients. I keep getting like 7 sticks of butter every time I open a bag.
If you build like one.
Aim for toughness and vitality with your gear and your traits. Use durability spells for your utility spells.
Make sure you have the appropriate weapon. I prefer Scepter/Dagger most of the time. Staff for WvW. And Scepter/Focus for Dungeons.
Use affinities properly. Don’t just switch for the hell of it. Switch for a reason.
Generally Fire is for pure damage. Earth is preparing for damage. Water is for kiting and healing. And Wind is for chasing/running away.
Everytime I die, its 1 silver ++ just to get back to the waypoint. Its incredibly annoying to pay that fee just because you die. So, hope they tune down the scaling for port fees, seriously…cause I am level 66, and sitting only at about 40 silver, because of how expensive one trait book is and because of so much money being spent on teleport.
Wait what?
I’m level 56 and I’m almost sitting on 5 gold. I think you’re doing something horribly wrong.
If you’re that low on coin you shouldn’t be using waypoints unless you die. Just run to where you want to go, you can even pick up crafting materials along the way to make some decent coin.
I use Scepter/Dagger. My utility spells are glyph of lesser elemental, and then 2 other defensive abilities. For my elite ability I use Hounds of Balthazar (though that’s irrelevant since you can’t use them).
The most important thing is to constantly kite, and to make sure you’re in the right affinity. Don’t just switch randomly. Generally you should be opening with fire, earth when mobs decide to eat you, and then water when you need to heal up.
One useful trick to know the range of the mobs. Generally they have a maximum range that they will run. So sometimes when you have to fight a group of mobs you can run so that all but one or two will reset, kill the one or two that didn’t. And then repeat.
I was in a dungeon with someone, I blocked him thinking it would keep his chat message from showing up in chat.
But it didn’t work. I kept seeing his messages in chat even after blocking him. I tried unblocking him and reblocking him but it didn’t work.
