“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”
Oh but there are many things that take time to obtain. Legendaries, rare weapons, most of the mystic forge ones. Why must “hard to obtain” items have a statistical advantage over others? It goes exactly against their design philosophy of easy to reach stat cap and even playing field
While I have no problem with how the ascended weapons are laid out personally, I think it does go against the grain of the game that Anet has been telling us about. I’m not necessarily surprised by this, but I can definitely see why people are annoyed/disturbed/angry.
You heard it here first folks, and from none other than Vayne :P
But Arenanet isn’t forcing you to get achievements. I mean, if you want to be a completionist in a game that appeals to a broad audience you ought to expect that some achievements will not appeal to you.
Should JPs give nothing just because you don’t like them?
We agree then
The mat cost for leveling up the profession is too high. I did the math and it’s around 20 exotics per profession. The weapons are okay, although I’d like them to cost less karma (after the karma nerf) and be like, 15-20% lower on the requirements of account bound materials. And WvW rewards are way too low ( 70 towers for a weapon? 100 (!?) keeps for the orbs? ). Oh, and maybe a (not-really-convienent) conversion rate amongst bloodstones, dragonites and empyreal?
The system has too many flaws and we have yet to receive a dev response on the matter
“ Everyone, including casual gamers, by level 80 should have the best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base. The rare stuff becomes the really awesome looking armours. It’s all about collecting the unique looking stuff and collecting all the other rare collectable items in the game: armour pieces, potentially different potions – a lot of that is still up in the air and we’ll finalise a lot of those reward systems as we get closer to release. And those come off of things like the bosses at the end of dungeons – the raids.”
Colin, Eurogamer, September 2011. So in a grand total of 2 years they did a 180° turn on this important game design choice. I wonder what’s in store for 2014.
The main “issue” we have now is that Ascended Weapons weren’t here at release. Fortunately, the Ascended Materials are available at the lowest levels, by the time you reach 80 (on a post-patch character) it is reasonable to have enough materials to craft an Ascended Weapon.
Let’s take a look at the materials needed to craft an Ascended Greatsword and how hard it is to get them before you even reach level 80:
Normal Materials are rather easy to come by if you actually play the game, and not fast level using crafting, it’s not unreasonable to have all the mats below shortly after you reach 80. Even the 450 Mithril Ingots are easy to get, Mithril is everywhere. It might appear that the required are loads if you start collecting them now, but as I see it, even a fresh player can actually have most of these while only playing the game normally.60 Softwood Plank
30 Seasoned Wood Plank
20 Hard Wood Plank
150 Elder Wood Plank
10 Ancient Wood Plank
180 Iron Ingot
90 Steel Ingot
60 Darksteel Ingot
450 Mithril Ingot
15 Orichalcum IngotRare Materials:
20 Crystalline Dust
5 T6 Materials
17 Globs of Ectoplasm
Not a very unreasonable amount there now, isn’t it? The “only” hard part here are the Globs of Ectoplasm, but due to our beloved World Bosses, starting at level 60 you can get your Globs without issues.“Special” Mats
30 Obsidian Shards
20 Skill Points
5 Laurels
21k Karma
3 gold
Once again, make a new character and by level 80 (if done “properly”) you will probably have all those easily. And now the Ascended Materials:
270 Thermocatalytic Reagent, that’s around 80g might be expensive for fresh 80s
500 Pile of Bloodstone Dust, that’s very easy to come by, at level 10 you can go around in Queensdale and get some Champion kills for these
500 Empyreal Fragment, that’s indeed a tough one, but dungeons give 20 per path, that’s 60 per dungeon. If you do all dungeons as you level up, there’s a total of 25 Paths for exactly 500 Empyreal Fragments. In other words, if you run each dungeon ONCE (while leveling from 1 to 80 preferably) you will get all your Fragments. Do some Jumping Puzzles on the way to cover some paths you might not do.
500 Dragonite Ore, you can start getting these at level 15, killing the Shadow Behemoth, Frozen Maw, Fire Elemental and Jungle Wurm. If you kill all the World Bosses ONCE, and assuming average drop in Dragonite Ore, you will get a grand total of 308 Dragonite Ore. They should make Dragonite Ore more readily available for sure, it’s the most rare of the 3 (requires more Grind). So, unless you consider a “grind”, running all world bosses and dungeon paths ONCE, then I don’t see any kind of mindless grind required for the Ascended mats. It’s your choice if you choose to “grind” some of the bosses or some of the dungeon paths over and over again, but you certainly don’t have to at all. If you want you can get all the Ascended Materials for a Weapon in a single day, if you can run all the paths in one day of course.
To me, getting to 400 Weaponsmithing is a lot more time consuming / grindy than crafting an Ascended Weapon. If you can get to 400 in a crafting discipline, there shouldn’t be any problem in crafting your weapon of choice.
The actual crafting of the weapon isn’t that bad, I can give you that. In fact I’ll even go as far as saying that the account bound materials part is a good idea, although the rewards are too skewed towards certain activities.
But you ignore one important aspect of the process: getting to 500 in a crafting profession. Why wasn’t 400 enough? If you take it slowly, you will need to craft an average of 20 exotics to max a profession. That’s 100 globs of ecto, 100 t6 mats, 200 orichalcum ores and 200 ancient wood logs. If I want a second weapon from another profession? Or if I want ascended armor that will probably work in a similar way? That’s 300 globs, 300 t6 mats, 600 ori and 600 ancient logs. And I haven’t even started crafting the friggin weapons. There’s a reason ancient wood goes for 12s+ a piece , because the grind is massive
But that is kind of a stupid point now isn’t it? Arenanet could make an item that costed 5000 globs of ectoplasm and you could say “but you get the mats through playing the game so it’s k!”
Well where else would I get the mats, at walmart?
It’s kind of obvious when the whole map is Green.
We tried a new strategy: Bore you to dead and deny you WEXP. but so far doesn’t work very well, to many still go to WvW.
There you are
Oh boy I’m starting to miss my french friends’ posts, is that a good sign?
Since you keep posting the same thing, I’ll asnwer you the same thing:
I want a staff and a gs on my guardian. I use many other weapons, but those are the ones I use most of the time so I can live with the others being exotic. Are you telling me I get 1000 orichalcum ores and 1000 ancient wood logs by just playing the game? Open your eyes buddy
I get 500+ orichalcum ores and 500 ancient wood logs, multiplied by 2 or 3 should I need weapons from different profession by just playing? In 2015 maybe. Coo
A player in full Ascended gear (Weapon, Accessories and Armor) will have 5% more weapon damage and 5% more stats compared to someone in Exotic gear.
It’s not a big deal.
Why even introduce it then, if it’s so insignificant.
No you get your head outside of you know what. If I don’t like the direction where the game is going I have the right to voice my opinion. I like GW2, it was more than worth the 60 bucks but I’d like to keep playing for longer and adding grinding in spades just to get BiS slot will hurt my enjoyment of the game.
And heck no, a casual player isn’t gonna have 105 globs of ecto, 105 t6 mats, 500+ orichalcum ores, 500+ ancient wood logs, 80k karma (karma nerf anyone?), 900 mithril ores and whatever else you need to craft your first weapon. I compiled the list earlier but the thread was deleted, not worth posting it again because people are gonna tell me that 100 keeps to get enough empyreal fragments for 1 weapon is okay.
I would like to stop playing my Guardian for once and bring my Necro in WvW, but to think that I lose 2,5k HP + bonuses from WvW ranks and go from full ascendeds to full exotics…
P.s. plz stop spreading misinformation, they didn’t state ascended is gonna be the last tier. Check Colin’s latest interview

Why is it not giving me ascended armor? I mean, if ascended weapons are an exclusive of PvE farmers, I want my rewards too.
Either each player is traited equally, or every category of players is awarded their special snowflake item.
Again the game design has been misunderstood. You are not supposed to farm those things. You do some dungeons, you get some. You do a puzzle for your daily, you get some more.
You get these things by playing regularly, there is no need to farm them. Instead, you calculate the time it takes to get them to the millisecond, and complain.
Oh sure, in 2-3 months I’ll probably get my first weapon through WvW Think of it, I may be able to outfit a whole character in a year! Yes, yes, those 500+ orichalcum ore and 500+ ancient wood logs will drop like nothing
I’d post again that huge list of mats required per crafting profession per weapon, but it’s not worth the time.
Again, the game design features something that is the opposite of what has been promoted before the ascended fiasco. See Colin’s quote.

Not salvage kits if I’m not mistaken.

Thanks for the helpful suggestion anyway
Pfff you just need to cap 357 towers. Just one a day every day for a year. This game is not log in to win, put some effort blablabla
SFR and ER seems to be a match from heaven that should marry each other.
Bad players on both them servers!Props to that good geared gladiator thief who got owned by my level 20 warrior!
Are you a roleplayer?
Shhhh don’t feed the troll and he will go away
Speaking of trolls gone away, where’s Dayra?
@truebanana: never seen anything like that, but oh well. Maybe it was lag, or semi-afk players? Or do you see scenes like those often?

Seconded.
10 or 15 would be a more reasonable price.
It’s easy to trick them Sina, simply sidestep left or right as soon as the jump, standing the furthest away possible from them.
Speak for yourself
I sincerely I hope this happens often to anyone that uses guides.
Here’s my upvote
Great job on all the songs, especially Pain Cliffs and Storm Top!
Come come Piken guild raid in bay, we SFR pugs are bad
If this works as expected I’m going to live inside WvW
Sorry to the GD thief I was fighting behind the mill for disappearing right at the end, my internet died.
Hat off to you sir

I had way too much Karma, that I was running out of things to use it on. Over 7 million from the start of the game until now. And that’s only a fraction of the Karma gains of some players.
I’m glad they reduced the output. With Karma being so easy to get, it made it less desirable to get. Plus, now that there’s no Karma gain from failed events, that gives more incentive to people to actually succeed for the awards.
I say “Good Job” Anet. A well welcomed change.
A well welcomed change because you have stockpiled enough karma? I have 4k million, I thought that Karma was overabundant but a nerf of 50% was more then enough.
ok, forgot about krait….largos look pretty kitten good need those :d
1. quaggan
2. skritt
3. largos
4. centaur
5. krait
6. tengu1 Unlikely – jumping puzzles
2 Most likely
3 Probably not
4,5 ditto to quaggan
6 Possible. Most will have armor design issues. If there is another race then the skritt are where my money is.
Skritt most likely? What are you smoking, I want some.
1. Tengu
2. Enough races
Immersion and MMOs rarely go well together. Besides, SAB is tucked away into Rata Sum so how does it ruin it exactly?
Please no, the overworld is already extremely easy save for Orr and Southsun. Also the thread you link to is in no way related to yours.
I don’t know, it’s in a starter area…
Why am I unable to upvote this thread?

I am actually looking forward to TM (I haven’t had the time yet to do it properly), but I wasn’t looking forward at all to the glitchfest that was the rapids, remembering it from April.
It’s not about difficulty of the actual content, I didn’t want that nerfed (and nobody I know did) – it’s about reliability and repeatability. There is no way to learn how to overcome an obstacle if the outcome of your jumps is random. Then it is just a matter of grinding out tries until the glitchy engine decides to allow you to pass for once.
If the engine’s behaviour is reliable and repeatable (for instance that you have to jump from further away to get onto a ledge) then there is no problem.
So no, we didn’t want to be handed rewards on a silver plate – we just wanted the game to treat us with fairness, and to not waste our time with unintended randomness.
If you are referring to the geysers, after many falls I learned that if you jump a little earlier you avoid the knockback bug they cause when they disappear from under your feet. There’s little to no randomness to it, because I can replicate succesfull jumps easily.
That is not to say that the difficulty shouldn’t have been reduced, but by reading the patch notes I think they overdid it. Bananas do no damage? What is their point then, they are rarely (or never?) mixed up with other enemies, now they are less dangerous then freaking snakes.
Oh well, I got Trib Mode
Edit: Just read Crise’s post. Makes a lot of sense. Much appreciated, Josh.
Glhf see you in the SAB
Also open to all duel requests and 2 vs 2, especially for the Pikenian heroes. Bring many engineers and stunlock Warriors.
I remember killing one guy twice in an SPvP match and he would whisper me (mean?) things in french and then instantly blocked me and changed match. I checked his name and he had like 12k ap (at the time it was top 100 EU?) so I guess I disturbed his AP farm…
Since that day, I had very little compassion for people like that. So yeah, they brought it on themselves.
There are no raids as they are traditionally known. There are however World Bosses that take place in the open world, but most of them are extremely easy and close to zero mechanics.
The next patch (17th September) will have one of the current World Boss ( Tequatl The Sunless ) be revamped and aimed at big groups of people looking for a challenge. Whether they want to continue revamping World Bosses as a replacement for raids, work on istanced raids or do nothing at all is not known.
Log in and check it out yourself.
They’re essentially turning Tequatl into a massive open world raid boss. I don’t know if it’s too little too late since any hardcore raiders would have moved on already.
Teq will be the next open world failure-fest following in the footsteps of Grenth and the Karka Queen. There will be some attention from large guilds initially if the reward is high enough and then that part of the open world will simply empty. Humans are just not built for continuous failure and I really wish Anet would learn this lesson sooner rather than later.
Grenth, Balthazar and the Karka Queen are done regularly on my server (whose population goes from medium to high on a weekly basis). Please stop with your agenda of “I don’t like challenging things so nobody likes them and Arenanet should never introduce them”.
God, people and their agendas.
We? We who? The naysayers that have been dooming and glooming since launch?
@zenleto: yes but as time passes by he gets closer and closer to the dark side, and I’m afraid there’s no saving him anymore
Anyways, back on topic for OP: the 17th september release will probably feature a new WvW mechanic with associated landscape changes.
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
<3 SAB W2 didn’t disappoint
Well performance is on their radar, although I don’t know how much they can do to improve it…
We have lost cesmode to the dark side
I just got killed by 10+ VS on my own rofl.
They pretty much blew every cooldown just to kill me.
Kinda sad really when they only fight battles in which they have 10000% advantage.
The amount of times I get moa’d at the start of a 1 vs x (where x is 1 or more) is astonishing, lol
I disagree that they should prioritize making new stuff over fixing existing stuff
It’s basically what you implied, like it or not.
Technically, this is new stuff.
Technically everything they have done after release is new stuff, but I give you a 7/10 for the creative cop out!
Even worse, OP, its kitteng minecraft. I missed SAB the first time around but I kept seeing people describe SAB as a super fun jumping puzzle section of content. Well, no. Its minecraft with jumps. Ugh.
Good job on failing to realize what games SAB pays a homeage to
Spread around the pact NPCs and pull the Risen with Guardian’s GS and Mesmer Focus/GS. Keep the NPCs as far away as possible from combat, focus the mobs who use AoEs and equip as many blinds as you can. This will make the last escort mission a breeze, we did it with 9 guys yesterday on SFR.

Congratulation Myst
My bullkittenting senses are tingling.
You have 3 hearts, mobs hit you for 1 heart per hit. Thus you can’t be oneshot. Besides, the enemies die in two hits (they don’t respawn) and their attacks are pretty easy to avoid. Not to mention there’s a whopping total of 3 (three) jumps in which you can die in the whole level. I mean no offense, but you are the first guy I’ve ever heard calling world 1 zone 1 difficult.
There’s “Infantile mode” (easy mode) if you are interested.
I disagree that they should prioritize making new stuff over fixing existing stuff
It’s basically what you implied, like it or not.
