“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”
Those are two of the strongest engineers in Europe. I might be wrong, but the HGH Engineer was created or at least made popular by Teldo. Same with the (now impossible) Hundred ‘Nades build. And they don’t need to post on the forums, they’re right there qualifying for tournaments and being top 50 on the leaderboards. Sorry, but you just can’t use an appeal to authority with me.
That being said, I think 1 vs 1 balance in this game is pretty good on a class by class basis, especially considering it’s not the focus. And with that I leave the thread as I’ve said everything I have to say about the matter.
Ever heard of HGH engineers? lol
Engineer is probably one of the stronges duelers in this game and with a (relatively) wide choice of builds!
I am an HGH engy myself. There are classes that can remove or even corrupt boons with ease.
Yes, this still doesn’t make it one of the best 1 vs 1 classes. And you made me agree with Nuka Cola, hope you are happy now!
P.s. I think this thread lost its focus!
P.p.s. I trust Teldo way more than you, no offense. Oh, also Super from Car Crash.

Agreed. But what class do you think has a (non build-related) advantage over another one? Because I played Guardian and Necro pretty extensively and I have wrecked/been wrecked by all classes.
No, 1 vs 1 balance shouldn’t be ignored but shouldn’t be a focus either. Balance the game around its (group-based) main modes (SPvP, WvW and PvE), then tweak a thing or two if a certain class has too much/too little 1 vs 1 prowess.
At least imo, it’s totally fair if a certain class in a certain build can wreck in 1 vs 1 another class with another certain build.
Would make for a nice Christmas JP although I think those are meant to be quite easy. Also reminds me of Mario Party on the N64! Good ol’ times!
Other exotics being account bound sucks and shouldn’t be there imo, but it may be because some ( the weapons at least? ) share skins with cultural weapons?
Good thing they know fractal rewards system needs some work!
Oh no, the VS curse is spreading! People want to make WvW as similar to champion farming in queensdale as possible? Hopefully sPvP isn’t up next!
Seafarer’s Rest (medium, EU) right after the new patch.
Why are Arah, CoF and CM weapons not sellable? Same reason. Was honestly pretty easy to figure out.
Oh I’m sure people more experienced in MMOs can tell you the names of recently released games that have only one PvP mode ( we have 2 by the way ). Oh and just so you know, we are in 2013 and WoW still has like 5 battlegrounds and deathmatch arenas afaik, nothing to brag about.
But anyways I don’t want to argue with a wall and derail the thread, so bubye.
You launch a game with ONE freaking pvp mode LOL… How many games launch with one game mode? I don’t think i ever seen a single game with one mode.
Uhm I don’t know, World of Warcraft? And that’s if you count open world PvP or duels as PvP-modes. Otherwise it was zero for more than 7 months. So much for the most succesfull MMO ever.

A really nice idea that opens up some interesting mechanics/scenarios, although as it works right now with the twisted thingies you are better off letting their revives go off most of the time.
Sad to see such elitism is a game such as this.
It’s not because you’re in some “pro” guild that you have the right to trash talk the people who join your server. If you can’t stand it I suggest you reroll Tetris!
It has nothing to do with elitism. As a dedicated WvW guild that plays mainly on prime-time, your first priority when changing server would be checking its population and community. Joining a server that has long queues only detriments the existing community and yourself.
While I can see what Axle is trying to say, his justification doesn’t really work when we’re talking about big (20+) guilds. Yes humans are selfish, but what is the benefit of joining an highly rated server if you can’t even play together?
P.s. this is not aimed at new guilds that may or may not have joined SFR recently, as I’m not really well informed.
I think their weird decision to increase the requirements to get the meta-achievements only makes the problem worse. I thought the previous way (for example, choose 10 out of 15 achievements to get your meta) was way better but the last two releases and Clockwork Chaos in particular went the opposite direction.
If they aren’t adding new achievements in the following weeks, people that want the tonic will have to complete 13 times a 45min event, and in 13 different maps!
I guess we can thank people that complained about LS not keeping their interest long enough?
EDIT:
Not posting again to avoid derealing the thread. Ty a lot for the info, I had not realized the daily ones counted towards the meta. You made my day, thanks!

It’s 1 vs 1 against Bosses, not other players. Just for clarification.
Hello forumers, I just wanted to point out that the item “Marjory’s Journal” isn’t currently working for me. Double clicking on it or right clicking and selecting “use” only makes a yellow “you can’t use that command yet” line appear. Sorry if this has already been posted, the search function showed 0 results for “Marjory”.
Shame because I really like the new cutscene style and wanted to watch the Marjory one.
Actually I find that the event is best completed by spreading out as much as possible. Many events can be done quite fast by 3-4 players and if you avoid commander tags you a) are more helpful b) may get a decent challenge.
I do agree that the way it works has flaws (when you zerg you get rewarded more for doing less) but that’s a sacrifice you gotta make when you design a game in which meeting another player is never a bad thing. How else would you do open world Living Story?
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
I greatly appreciate how you are trying to make WXP less alt-unfriendly, but wouldn’t simply making it account bound fix it?
The only downside a change like that could have is that people may max ranks too fast and not have an incentive to keep playing, but seeing how many friggin ranks you need to fill even a single mastery…
Same, Auroraglade. Game lost connection to the login server when I attempted to change maps. My friend is still in, sitting next to me – seems like it happens when you change zones or try to log in.
Combining a farming world event with a F2P weekend might have not been the best idea
.
The free trial weekend is later on if I’m not wrong.
Same problem here on Seafarer’s Rest, EU.
Guest on a server with low population and avoid the main group. At least for me, fighting the new monsters in small numbers is both fun and difficult.
Certainly more then all other MMOs. But what has this to do with the matter at hand?
Or did my implication that “balance changes can wait 2 weeks for the sake of a big tournament” seem too selfish? Besides, it’s not like balance is in a bad state and needs urgent changes.
(Inb4 people that can’t play quote my last sentence)
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
Balance changes right (edit)before a big tourney? Your expectations were pretty wrong.

Time to take out my sweetass Beedog!
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
Obviously you didn’t read the edit of my earlier post.
“After reading what I’ve said I disagree with it as well … Pillory on me!” (this is from you, in case you forgot)
If you think disagreeing with what you wrote in your first post is not a valid enough reason to edit any clarification in….well…keep complaining that people didn’t understand you
I’m done with your arrogant and condescending tone, good bye sir.

Kingface get out plz, in 7 months I haven’t seen you make any post that wasn’t a flame-bait
Limit yourself to trolling your server’s thread.
That’s funny from someone from SFR, especially you.
And my server’s thread is kinda dead…
No matter how many times you imply that VS players are respectful while we are not, it doesn’t make it true. We’ve had threads long 10+ pages with more hateful posts from your server than ours, you can count them if you wish.
@Atoss: I’ve got screenshots of Deso golem rushing our keep on EB early in the morning (not this week). Now if only I cared enough to go look for them…
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
Please edit the OP if you realize that it doesn’t match what you were trying to say.
I managed to complete it once, simply by constantly annoying people in map chat till they gathered! She hits like a truck and even with 10-15 players we had casualties…not to mention the fight isn’t exactly exciting.
@PixelPumpkin
Kind of. If you don’t know, we already have something similar, only for exp. The longer a mob stays around, the more exp it gives when it’s killed. Doing the same for champion loot would make the “hidden” or “hard” events more rewarding. At the same time, I’d suggest lowering the loot of champions freshly spawned to limit their farming (but I’m gonna get a lot of flak for that).
Didn’t read anything but your two first post suggesting gear progression, legendaries being stronger then regular weapons and WvW masteries that replace your (poor?) PvP skills. I know you didn’t say those things directly, but you heavily imply them or I suck at reading (likely).
No.
Edit: Read the rest of your posts, as suggested. The point you make later I can agree with, but opens a whole lot of different issues: who gets to decide which armor looks better? Arah’s set may be one of the hardest to get, but I think it looks ugly. Is rewarding skill something Arenanet should prioritize? I’d like to think so, but loads of players in game make me think otherwise. And why is that challenge itself is not a big enough reward? I mean I would’ve loved to receive a precursor for doing the 8 orbs of light achievement against Liadri, but I realize that’s a bit selfish.
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
What about champion loot increasing (or decreasing) the longer (shorter) it stays up? What I’m saying that like EXP people should be rewarded for doing champions that aren’t usually killed!

Oh man, fake difficulty and bad design! If we listened to forum posters no boss would have any mechanic ever.
Been having a blast, very nice duels today! Also seen loads of DVG and they seem promising!
P.s. to the GD guardian I was referencing earlier: feel free to add me and we’ll set up a duel with your mesmer :P
P.p.s. Crad what the heck are you doing in here, you traitor!
Congratulations Zerco, you accrued 1 year worth of necroing threads in 3 posts.
I don’t know, dare I say the population has been increasing quite steadily in the last few months?
It certainly has in my server, Seafarer’s Rest. A few hours ago we had an overflow in LA, something I haven’t seen in ages. Considering the current LS takes place in Divinity’s Reach…
If you play on EU feel free to add me and /w in game for help!
Unfortunately Guardian is the worst class to play without a party of people you know and bunkering can get dull in hotjoins, but I can link you some decent offensive builds if you wish to take matters in your hands and smash some faces!
Also sorry I forgot to add the amulet (power, toughness, healing power) and runes (runes of the soldier) in the link provided!
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
Shoutout to that nice guard from Good Old Days for the great duels!
Also my /eyeroll to some excss baddies that know no grace in defeat
Completing a Dynamic Event constitutes a violation of the ToS?
I was mad at an OP thief bishotting my bunker guardian in SPvP when I realized I was playing that tournament without an amulet…
The good reason (other than balance) imo is that we have loads of roles/archetypes covered with the current weapon distribution. The more weapons you add, the more difficult it becomes to make them feel and play differently.
Not that I’m against new weapons, or even increasing the range of weapons a class can use (enginers could really use that), but I don’t think it should be a priority. New utilities (especially elites) should take priority, imo.
Dodging is really important in SPvP, but quite hard to master. Skilled players can recognize the animations of dangerous skills and dodge them accordingly. Since I realize that’s asking too much from a new player, simply dodging when under pressure will get you by, for now.
Guardians excel at being really hard to kill and supporting other players in SPvP. As such, Guardians in tournaments (GW2 term for ranked play) almost always run bunker (GW2 term for tank) builds and focus on staying alive and protecting points.
However, since defending points gives little to no score, people in hotjoin (non-ranked play) rarely do it. It’s your choice on what you should do, people don’t really care about winning in non-ranked matches. Personal suggestion: bunker a point when in a 5 vs 5 match but don’t do it when in a 8 vs 8.
P.s. Retaliation just does a flat amount of damage to the enemy everytime he hits you. It doesn’t protect you from damage.
P.p.s. Here’s a good bunker build for a Guardian. http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-7Bxs-JGOFk40B3FG-90;9;69TT;44;001A189p Other viable weapons are scepter, focus, sword and staff. Keep in mind that with this build you can’t possibly kill anyone in a 1 vs 1, so you’ll have to rely on your teammates.
None (and for good reasons I’d say).
They have however announced more skills/traits coming befor the end of 2013.
No farming is boring to me
If you’ve read a lot about the game you’d know that it doesn’t have a trinity. As such, there are no dedicated tanks and healers. This doesn’t mean that you can’t build a character for taking a lot of hits or for supporting your party, but that you can’t facetank what enemies throw at you or heal through it. You will have to move and avoid the telegraphed big hits even on tanky characters.
Because, simply put, there aren’t enough italian-speakers playing the game. Don’t forget that Italian is only spoken in Italy.
The whiny feel is strong in this thread.
I see no problem with racial-focused, 1 month-long (GASP!!!) living story updates. One of the biggest motives of GW2 is the races setting aside their differences to fight bigger threats.
To hell with SFR, I go on a vacation for one week and that one darn week you gotta win!
The birthday gift is kind of… ehm, whatever, it’s free.
The death of culling however is something to celebrate!
P.s. Don’t feed the troll
Ok, now that seems way more reasonable and I actually agree. You certainly try to set up a burst way more often then you did in GW1, because both you and your enemies have lower cooldowns on bursts/countermeasures (dodge mainly).
Still I don’t realize why is that a problem. It may make combat seem spammy I guess?
Thank you all for the replies. I’m going to look into the survivor thing
You can convert gems to gold, and 3g should be pretty cheap (around 2 euros at worst?). I’m not suggesting you to get the rose this way, but just letting you know that you don’t need to gamble with your money to get items that are on the TP for a reasonable price :p
