I think it’s not really popular mainly for three reasons:
1) because it offers poor rewards and that doesn’t cope well with a Skritt playerbase.
2) because it’s not beginner-friendly
3) because people think that 8 vs 8 hotjoins are the meat of SPvP, when in reality it’s tournaments.
Wow thank god necros and guardians have been buffed considerably, they really suck, especially in WvW.
Yes yes, that Monk Focus and Divine Intervention were used left and right in WvW because they were OP, now we will see them even more! Just like Rampage doesn’t deserve a buff because Warriors are good in PvE right?
Screw logic or understanding other classes, let’s just complain when we see “buff”.

They just killed necro… We had ONE escape option. We have no movement skills like blink, ride the lightning or anything, BUT we could jump of high cliffs t osurvive. Not anymore. They ruined everything. GG Anet
From what I understand you are still able to mitigate fall damage with it, just not completely negate it with even a single smidget of life force. That was an obvious bug and I’m sorry you relied on it that much, but understand that it was totally unfair.
This comes from someone that plays mainly Guardian and Necromancer, the two slowest professions I believe.

Meh, I like the idea of voting but this release seems light on content. Also more RNG bullcrap, but at least the scraps guarantee you get a reward after a number of tries.
Balance changes seem allright, but I fear Warriors becoming even stronger in PvE.

I think it’s intended for people to fight each other in there. See all the traps lying around, for example.

I like the shield the way it is. While number 4 skills definitely feels a bit underwhelming, number 5 is perfect. You have to remember that shield is way more support-oriented than focus.
Seafarer’s Rest has to be one of the most crowded medium servers. I’m pulling this out of my…thin air, I don’t have any hard evidence to back this claim up eh.

Really depends on what you mean by kitten. Random evil fiery armor with skulls of evilness, dyed with abyss of course, appeals more to children than the cutesy flower backpack given to us with The Secret of Southsun.
It’s not that we don’t have enough armor choices, because we have plenty. It’s that most of them are too similar or dislike by a good majority.
I thought this was about Miya the princess kidnapped in the Super Adventure Box. Now I’m disappointed.
While condition damage is useful for some of necromancer’s strongest bulds, you may want to invest into power and precision if you like using an axe or a main hand dagger. Condition builds are great, but only staff, scepter and dagger off-hand apply damaging conditions, and their damage takes a while to build up.
Also consider investing a little on vitality or toughness because they benefit your second health bar ( Death Shroud ) too.
Don’t scare newbies off with that….thing! Reading it hurts! Write normally dude, I know you can do it!
Now, as per OP requests, here’s my suggestion: roll either a mesmer or an elementalist. Both classes can be pretty supportive, one with its awesome utilities such as Time Warp, Illusion of Life, Veil and Portal, the other with its auras or its good access to water combo fields and direct healing. They can also be played aggressively with good results, both in WvW and SPvP, but only as direct dmg dealers. Their condition builds are weak. Both are quite hard to play and not as straightforward as Warriors so prepare to have a rough start, especially if you jump into PvP right away.
Necromancers are again a great class both in SPvP and in WvW, and while they are good at supporting, they don’t do it through buffing their allies but by impairing their enemies with weakness, cripple, chill, blind and boon-stripping
I don’t play the first two classes, so take my advice with a pinch of salt. Hopefully a more experienced player can chime in.

SPvP is more than hotjoins, in fact I’d say that hotjoins are just a little diversion from the main meat of it: Tournaments. First of all they’re not 8 vs 8 like most hotjoins but 5 vs 5, around which the maps are balanced. Second they’re rated. Third, they can be joined with a group.
Yes, the rewards get redundant quite fast and there’s not much to look forward to once you get to r30/r40 and get the title for winning 150 tournaments on a class, but they announced they are gonna improve the rewards in PvP. Not that they should be a primary focus, imo.

Yes yes, I was being sarcastic. I can’t really hold back when people main complaint is focused on rewards. They go like “Oh I can do this and this but what’s the point if I don’t get shinies” or even worse “doing this thing sucks and it doesn’t even give rewards”, implying that they don’t like the gameplay, but will keep playing if you give them shinies. Bah.
To answer your last question: Elementalist. They can be good supports or deal tons of AoE damage, they are fun to play (imo), they are good both in large/small scale WvW (with different builds) and are decent in dungeons/pve. You can’t go wrong with an elementalist, but keep in mind they are a difficult profession to learn.
As for Warriors, their glass cannon builds rely on “do or die” skills like One Hundred Blades (Greatsword) or Killshot (Rifle) but it’s not the only role they are effective at. In fact, I’d say that one of the most common roles for Warriors in large organized WvW is to be ultra-tanky CC machines with Hammer and I’ve seen some nasty 1 vs 1 builds with mace that stun you for the longest time. Then again I don’t play Warrior so take this with a grain of salt.

Your second suggestion isn’t a well thought idea an I’ll leave it at that.
Guardians are great in PvE, but weak in solo-roaming due to low mobility. They get exponentially better the more allied players are around.
Mesmer is good in PvE/WvW and one of the best duelists, but their mobility sucks possibly worse than Guardians. The strongest roaming professions are Elementalist and Thief, but they don’t shine in PvE.
Anyways, you know how MMOs work: one day you are on top of the food chain, the next one you are at the bottom. My personal suggestion would be to play the class that you like more, regardless of balance that may or may not change.

Karizee answered your questions pretty well, I just wanted to add that currently most of the episodes seem disconnected but there are plenty of unanswered questions and Arenanet stated that they are connected somehow. You may want to read a little about past chapters, but it’s not mandatory to understand what’s going on currently.

As much as I like dwelling this forum and finding flaws in other peoples suggestions I can’t manage to find one with yours. Great idea!
As soon as you hit the next achievement points threshold you will receive your chest.
I have observed and reported the same 6 bots in HOD Cursed Shore and after 24 hours, the bots are still running around. This does not sound to me like the reports are responded to in short order.
They used to ban bot in swipes, not on a per-report basis. I don’t know if they changed their modus operandi recently, as I haven’t seen a bot in ages, but yeah, expect them to take a few days to a week to ban them.
All classes look the same when you are fighting a simple lv 10 mob, or one of the loot-pinatas known as World Bosses where the only thing you need to do is stand still and autoattack. Play PvP for more than 5 minutes and come back, tell me if Guardians play the same as Engineers.
With that being out of the way, no substantial changes have been made to how the classes play (rightly so, since the system is working perfectly), but there’ve been loads of balance changes. Your opinion may or may not change but why not giving it a try.

Just wanted to comment on the “dulness” experienced by OP: it may be a first impression. Yes, there’s little micromanagement with many professions, and most of the skills are quite straightforward. You’ll especially notice this when doing most of the easy PvE encounters where you’re likely to end up just autoattacking for prolonged times.
Fear not though, as it doesn’t necessarily means that there’s no depth: it’s just that a good chunk of the current fights don’t require you to delve into it. It’s a problem acknowledged by Arenanet and they will be working to improve the encounters. Moreover, most of the depth isn’t immediately apparent, but requires you to pay attention. After 9 months I still learn things about my main, one of the easiest classes, the Guardian.

Your concerns are understandable, but I don’t think the consumables (magic find boosters, food and possibly runes?) are going to be changed. Or they could remove those and increase drops overall. I belive one of the reasons drops are so bad is that they have to balance them considering the possibility of someone with +300% MF. B

It’s just another example how the vocal minority gets what they want and the quiet majority will have to adapt to this.
It’s just an example of Arenanet devs having their own brains and understanding the problems with what they’ve implemented, ultimately admitting their faults and changing the system. I’ve read 100x more threads about mounts than magic find, why do you think they’ve not implemented mounts?
Gold find is different from magic find in that it doesn’t replace a significant amount of stats. If I recall correctly gold find can only be obtained through consumables and one infusion in the amulet slot, for a total loss of 5 points of stats in your gear (some infusions give +5 to a stat of your choice). It’s extremely different from MF that is found in gear and runes and can cost you easily more than 1000 stat points.
I really wonder if the guy stating that running magic find in wvw makes sense is trolling. In any case, I only wish that his entire server decides to run mf. Have fun getting stomped over and over again.*
@Neural: I’m not blindly certain that Arenanet will give everyone +250% magic find. In fact I’m sure that will never happen, but since I always wore 0%, any increase, even a measly 10% is more than welcomed. By the way, great job on the stereotypes, that’s one of the most ridicolous I’ve seen in years of forum-dwelling.

Well at the moment some people are pausing and others leaving because they are getting bored and since ER is a high population server there aren’t much WvW interested players transfering to fill these spots.
Besides there are some internal difficulties and things you don’t even want to know.
Hope these things are getting fixed in the next weeks.

Yes, full zerker parties are optimal in easy dungeons or when the players are extremely skilled. So what? Unless you are into speed-runs you should not really be bothered. It is perfecly possible to run every dungeon in gears different than zerker (dungeon master, fractal lv 46 here) and with 99% of the party compositions.
