Here is a little secret. You get tons of them from WvW. Just follow the zerg and take keeps. Make sure you hit the champion keep lord for credit.

shame on me for staying in a weak WvW server
I totally need to either convert gold into 1800 gems or to pay X amount of real money for a transfer just so I can follow zergs and take keeps

entirely my fault and not game issues

Don’t, good servers actually defend things. Back when Desolation had IRON guild I was lucky to cap a freaking camp, they had people defending everywhere.

Dragonite ore income from wvw sucks big time compared world bosses or temples. People that say otherwise either are the nightcap force of Vizunah or their matchup has some kind of silent agreement to run in circles to farm.

SAB is dying...

Here’s my +1 ZilentNight. This community ( or MMO communities in general? ) have this particular interest to rewards that playes a big part in how much a certain content is played through.

The first implementation of SAB allowed you to farm loads of Baubles for obby shards (gone), obtain skins (that looked better, imo) way faster and was significantly easier (less effort required = bigger pool of players you can draw). Also I’m looking at you, ascended weapons.

The levels themselves are, dare I say, better than the originals! More mechanics, more diverse enemies, bigger levels! What’s not to love? The only thing that wasn’t done perfectly is the difficulty curve: the gong run shouldn’t have made it past QA the way it was, and some other parts should’ve been slightly toned down too.

You and your team did an awesome job Josh and you shouldn’t feel down just because people are busy chasing ascended carrots. The first world was awesome, the second is brilliant.

P.s. I fear that threads like these may do mor harm then good.

There are so few players left in fact that they were able to remove culling. Had they attempted to do that a year ago GW2 would have been a slide show and completely unplayable. The player base has thinned out so much its depressing.

Ahahah, this has one of the most misguided posts I’ve ever heard. It seems that you are unfamiliar with overflows and how they work. Read up the wiki, think about it for ten seconds, then come back and try to doom and gloom in a more credible way.

But I don’t need carrots that add nothing to the game to be dangled in front of me to keep playing it. The “unrealistic expectation” was true for GW1, a game that never released stronger gear or raised the level cap through 7 years of activity and 3 expansions. I played that game for 3 years and I never felt the need for my character to “progress” at the expense of others.

Second, if I read all this above the ranking has nothing to do with guild strength, only with ego-boost.

If you win you gain ranking. If you lose you go down in ranking. How is this unrelated to guild strenght? Certainly that ranking could use some more appropiate rules, but the basics are there.

And no readyness is not part of strenght imo, that would be like saying that the strongest football team is the one that beat all others even while its roster is changing.

(Non GvGer point of view, although I don’t see how any of this is our business. Especially league rules, but you seem to love giving unasked for suggestions)

And a camp + tower every 10 minutes is such an unbeliavable number I’m starting to doubt you even play WvW. A well defended tower can take half an hour or more to capture.

The casual will probably get about 100 to 150 for a couple of hours playtime.

The casual logs in and plays 2 hours of WvW. Camps drop 2 to 4 empyreals, let’s assume the average is 3. To get to 100 empyreal fragments you’d have to cap a minimum of 33 supply camps. That is a camp every 3 minutes and a half.

Towers drop 7 empyreals, thus 14 towers to get 100 empyreals. A tower every 10 minutes.

In short: your figures are way off and empyreals aren’t too easy to obtain in WvW at all.

Wolfheart.1938

Is this a joke?

You get 2 to 4 shards for capping a camp. Progression of obtaining shards through WvW is superslow. It’s way faster looting Queensdale chests on 4 characters. And then it’s still slow.

If you only take Camps (2 to 4 per), then yes it’s slow. But combine that with constant Tower (6 to 7 per) flipping, and you end up getting a lot of Empyreal Fragments. Add to that Jumping Puzzles with a Dungeon thrown into the mix, and you can get a stack a day for the hardcore farmer. The casual will probably get about 100 to 150 for a couple of hours playtime. That’s not really slow.

What servers do you happen to be fighting that let you “constantly flip” towers? Yes, you get too many fragments by playing in deserted maps with no opponents.

You get barely enough fragments by properly playing WvW against evenly matched servers. Mileage may vary, a lot.

Anyone happen to know this guy, or his norn warrior buddy in the same guild?

I really really want to know their specs/builds. It’s incredible. We had three guys hammering away on this guy last night, condition stacks/melee etc .. and his health would dip to about 85% and then bloop regen back to 100%, over and over. He even knew he had a pretty special build cos he’d stand there taking a beating and jump up and down and not fight back, just bounce around. The norn version from the same guild was afk when I ran into him, sent off six clones who were all hammering away on him and his health would never dip below 85% — amazing regen build.

I MUST HAVE THIS BUILD!

Care to share?

I don’t play warrior and I didn’t research the build too much, so I can’t tell you the traits, but a large part of your difficulty in killing him may be the fact that he has two active buffs, some stacks of guard killer and possibly max stat gear.

Signet of healing gives him 400hp per second, the trait dogged march gives 33% reduction on cripple chill and immobilize (and the warriors I’ve met seemed to be immune to immobilize) and kiting is not an issue when your greatsword 5th is better then ride the lightning.

Very strong build in smallscale but sucks big time in zergs.

You can DEFINITELY finish World 1 by yourself. Please try it. It’s a ton of fun.

World 2, I would definitely wait till they tone down the difficulty.

I won’t. It clearly states ‘Suggested: 5 Players’ and I don’t group.

It’s just a standard instance message and that’s the only reason why you are seeing it! You can EASILY solo all of the world and zones, just give it a try!

No. If they want me to run SAB, they need to make it a solo instance and not a 5 man dungeon.

Your way of clinging to minuscule details is rather tiresome. It is both. I know it, you know it. You are informed. You just chose to cling to that pop-up.

Hell, it’s probably easier to finish solo that with a group.

Fun vs Farm

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wolfheart.1938

Wolfheart.1938

I want to see if people can help me identify all the fun things to do in GW2 as opposed to things that are done just for farming. I’m tired of Skinner boxes; I want to be engaged and have fun. So far I have:

  • Dungeons/FOTM (no speedclears, no exploits, no skipping)
  • WvW (especially away from the zerg, ignoring the daily AP checklist)
  • sPVP (for fun, ignoring the daily AP checklist)

Some things can be fun in small doses:

  • Jumping puzzles (for fun, not chest running)
  • Mini-games (for fun, not to make AP numbers go up)

And there are things that are fun once (or maybe a couple times) for the novelty factor:

  • World exploration/completion
  • Temple/dynamic events
  • Personal story (try all branches)
  • Instanced story portions of Living Story
  • Mini-dungeons
  • Jumping puzzles (as part of exploration)

I would really like to find some more fun things to do since I have long since finished the novelty ones and the main ones are starting to feel stale. Please help!

You pretty much covered all of it, except leveling alts. LS updates may or may not be fun depending on what you like and the content released.

Unfortunately, there’s a finite amount of content, like in all games. And there aren’t many hooks to artificially extend your playtime (but the game seems to be going in that direction) so it is more apparent the in other MMOs.

Except for the most annoying part of the level, the gong tower, where you get knocked back into dart traps if any of the (I think) 6 assassins hit you. Half the time you barely see them coming due to the camera acting up. I don’t mind the dart traps, but please don’t say stuff like this. It’s just not true.

The whole point of the dart traps is for you to slow down and start analyzing your surroundings. Its a lie. See my post on last week.

Congratulations to VS and PS.

For me was a slack week, …

I am amused

I generally don’t bother congratulating the winning server if it isn’t a close match because there’s little glory in winning against heavily outmanned servers or by having better coverage. This of course goes both ways and I don’t expect anyone congratulating SFR for winning this week.

Call it lack of chivalry, but I believe I’m not the only one in thinking this.

Disheartened I decided to stop aggravating myself and simply play the content I like (SAB right now), but if this implementation goes unchanged and worst of all ascended armor follows the same pattern I guess it’s time for me to leave. I’m not in the targeted demographic anymore, and neither are my friends. Makes me really sad because there are many things I like, but I’m likely to see more and more disappointments in the future.

The actual crafting of the weapon isn’t that bad, I can give you that. In fact I’ll even go as far as saying that the account bound materials part is a good idea, although the rewards are too skewed towards certain activities.

But you ignore one important aspect of the process: getting to 500 in a crafting profession. Why wasn’t 400 enough? If you take it slowly, you will need to craft an average of 20 exotics to max a profession. That’s 100 globs of ecto, 100 t6 mats, 200 orichalcum ores and 200 ancient wood logs. If I want a second weapon from another profession? Or if I want ascended armor that will probably work in a similar way? That’s 300 globs, 300 t6 mats, 600 ori and 600 ancient logs. And I haven’t even started crafting the friggin weapons. There’s a reason ancient wood goes for 12s+ a piece , because the grind is massive

You can cut some of that if you want. You dont have to level just by crafting exotics, though it might be a good idea for the dark matter. (also salvaging those exotics will also give you some globs back so it really less then 300 globs)

Anyhow if you want to craft less exotics, doing it on artificer I crafted potions which took me from 400 to 425 easily. had all that was required so essentially it was free. The other two professions are kinda limited there but they too have some options you could play around with. Then at level 450 you can start refining T7 materials. I dont know how viable that is to level the profession up, should get to 450 today so I got no experience there yet.

Ancient wood is at 12s because people are impatient mostly. Most people have 3 or 4 max level characters available. If you really hate gathering you can stick to easy maps. Like right now there is frostgorge and Malchor’s Leap which both have nodes really close to the waypoint. with 4 chars in 10 mins max (most of the time accounted for loading) you can get about 60 Ancient wood! if you dont mind making a 30 min activity instead of a 10 min you can get twice as much as well.

Its not that bad come on, its just that people want everything now thats why they’re selling for as much as 12s not because they’re too grindy to get.

The 20 average exotics are a MUST. I did the math. They are required to get from 425 to 450 and from 475 to 500. That also assumes that you go from 450 to 475 solely through refining ascended materials, which is highly unlikely seeing how at 470 you need to craft 10 of any recipe to get to 471. You’d have to craft the mats for 5-6 weapons before actually being able to get your first one.

And anyways, seeing as how I played the game since launch and with an average of 3h a day, I’d say that I’m entitled to have enough mats to craft me my first ascended weapon, no? I mean, I don’t have a legendary and I don’t own more than 1 exotic set on my two lv 80 characters.

But no, since I spent my time having fun (not farming loot pinatas, cof p1, deadeye, pavillion, invasions or what you have) just getting to 500 on ONE profession is going to require me to farm.

If you are a PvE-only player with a liking to rewarding activities, it might not be that bad. If you are like me and play content regardless of their reward, yes, it is THAT bad.

Getting crafts to 500 doesn’t involve any grinding.
Buying out your crafts to 500 quickly by just buying mats does.

You can still ditch the crafting and go champ hunting, or do WvW, to get them.
You can still play the game normally, sell your earnings to buy mats to level crafts and craft AWs.

Grinding is when, by definition, the only way to achieve something is to repeat the same action over and over.
This is objectively not the case.
Ironically, getting ascended rings was the case (you HAD to repeat fractals to get them), and yet this is receiving more complaining.

Welcome to gaming forum’s logic.

I guess that by your definition Legendary weapons aren’t a grind? Because guess how 90% of the players that own one or more got them

By the way by your own definition getting a weapon from CoF is a grind (you have to repeat CoF, there’s no other choice) while an item that costs 1k globs of ecto isn’t because you get ectos from many sources.

Talk about stupid logic.

But then you’d notice that the only other source of Dragonite Ore is keeps and castle, the most defended WvW fortifications.

And that capping a keep gives you AT BEST 5 ores. So that’s 100 keeps. For a weapon. On average (It varies a lot based on matchup) you don’t cap more than a keep every 2 hours of WvW gameplay. So that’s 200h of WvW to get enough ores for a single weapon. Let’s not forget that taking the same keep twice in a day isn’t gonna yeld dragonite ores.

Not a grind.

You know I remember an interview from pre-beta in which one of the devs said something along the lines of “in most MMOs, you have to craft a bunch of useless stuff before you get to craft the things you actually want. We don’t want to do that, we want our players to feel like every item they craft is useful”

> Add arbitrary 50 (one could argue 100) levels of junk that’s there just to cost you loads of mats.

You can guess what’s my stance on the matter.

Agreed Ykfox. Doing every single JP in the game 5 times (actual numbers) to get 4 BiS weapons on a single character for a single build (say I am a p/p + p/d condi thief) is nothing but “devoting a little bit of time”, especially when you look at the rest of the requirements for ascended weapons.

And you are who, Nuka Cola’s apprentice? Because he trolls way better than you.

Scratch that, let’s not turn the thread into a flamewar and give mods reasons to close it

Lol I recognize too many names on this board

no I mean where he said “I really don’t want to make a promise because we 7 years from now we might turn around and put another tier, OR someone else might be in charge of the game…”

That is a pretty vague statement don’t you think? It also doesn’t go on the possibility of a levelcap raise, on which they’ve been vague too.
