[Suggestion] Gem Store Frequent Buyer rewards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wolfheart.7483

Occasionally in the past there have been small “thank you” gifts for purchasing gems during a certain period of time. Those were a nice little surprise.

As someone who purchases gems on a fairly regular basis, I have a suggestion:

Many stores have frequent buyer cards/programs. Something similar would be a nice feature for the gem store. Example: On the 1st of each month your account gets gems equal to 10% of the amount of gems you bought the previous month. Buy 4000 gems in February? On March 1st you get 400 gems as a bonus.

Or perhaps certain tiers that you hit over time. When you’ve reached the 10,000 gems purchased (regardless of the span of time it took to reach that mark) you get 1000 gems.

Those are just basic ideas. Anyone have any other similar suggestions/ideas?

Also: this topic is simply meant to suggest ideas about some type of frequent buyer rewards with the gem store. It is not meant to be a debate over the value/usefulness/quality of any gem store item, whether you think gems are fairly priced, what you think should be added/removed from the gem store, etc. This is strictly meant to be about the topic as described above.

There always have to be outliers in any experience. Congratulations, you’re the one with the consistently bad experience.

Are you inside some kind of fantasy land where the game actually functions or are you just shilling hardcore? This kitten has never worked. the only way it does work is if you and your friends are the only people in a zone in the first place. (And even then it’s flaky)

Never had a problem with it, nor have my friends, so I don’t know what to tell you.

I, also, have never had a problem with it nor have any of the friends I play with.

Naga MMO 2014 vs Logitech G600

I own both the G600 and the Naga MMO 2014.

I love both mice. If one person has issues with software from Logitech or Razer or gets unlucky with a mouse (or multiple) breaking from either company, they had some bad luck. It doesn’t make that the definitive example of what products from that company are like.

Both mice work great for me and I haven’t had any issues with either. Software from both has worked fine for me, as well. I have owned, and still own, multiple products from both companies and have never had any big issues. Over the years I have had products from both companies that needed to be returned for one reason or another but no manufacturer produces 100% perfect products.

I think either mouse is an excellent choice.

When you buy a skin you can use it first time for free on a desired item.
Every next use costs you a charge.

I don’t why it should be different because these are different services.

Why only the 1st time?

Do you buy a toy from the store, only use it once, then go back to pay to use it again?

That logic makes no sense.

You’re thinking of the skin the wrong way.

The toy analogy is more like the actual equipment you apply the skin to. You can equip and use that equipment as many times as you’d like.

If you wanted to paint that toy you bought to give it a different appearance, you could go out and buy a can of paint that is just the right amount to color the toy once, completely. If you wanted to paint another toy (i.e. another piece of equipment) the same way, you’d need another can of paint. Skins are the paint.

Wolfheart.7483

Right…. that line is just an accident * rolls eyes * . I mean the shirt is just covered in accidental lines…

Regardless, its just art, not a hint at things to come – spears have stat allocations as two handed weapons and even if we see terrestrial spears this year or next, they aren’t going to be 1-handed weapons.

I am staying out of the argument surrounding the image….however, if they added spears on land, they could very easily be one handed. By the logic that underwater spears are two-handed so land spears must be, as well, would mean we could never have a two-handed axe, and either the sword or greatsword should be removed.

Just because one version of a weapon is two-handed doesn’t mean another one has to be.

The biggest issue I have with people wanting others to not play how they want is that they paid for the game, same as everyone else. Period. You have no right to tell them how to play and expect them to adhere. For instanced content, simply don’t play with people who don’t share your sentiments. For open world content? Suck it up. It’s open world because it belongs to everyone, all the time. Event failed? Life goes on.

Still. The option would be cool.

Even just to take screenshots or admire the world up close.

I don’t mean full on Elder Scrolls style with being able to see the body plus weapons etc etc. Though that would be cool.

The way WoW does it would be fine with me. Just the ole camera sitting in front of the character’s face.

The benefit to nice screenshots or simply looking around the environment would be nice.

I certainly wouldn’t want to attempt any difficult fights while in 1st person but I would be all for an option to look around in 1st person while out of combat. Maybe engaging in combat automatically reverts back to 3rd person view? Just a thought…

Guild wars 2 tattoo sleeve idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wolfheart.7483

Wolfheart.7483

The gw2 concept art is pretty epic, I agree. But have you found an artist that can replicate that style? An idea for a tattoo is only as good as its execution. This style is full of soft shading and gradients, and wouldn’t look the same with a heavy outline. The heavy outline covers a multitude of sins, so you might want to find an artist capable of this before you get too invested in the idea.

I wouldn’t personally want a tattoo that directly references a game too strongly. I’m not sure yours does – just depends on how straightforward the symbolism is going to go.

I have a lot of tattoos, and I’ve never had an issue with my employer about that. I’ve worked in law offices and retail and medical environments. Not sure if this is common (employers not caring) or if I’ve just been lucky. I’m in my 30’s and I don’t regret a single one. I waited a long time before getting any idea inked though, and spent many hours talking to artists and looking through their portfolios before I made a decision. I strongly advise you to do the same.

I have several tattoos, as well. I have never had any problems with my employers over the years. I think the attitude in a professional workplace is slowly changing regarding tattoos. Granted there are still many places that might not want to employ you, etc., but that isn’t nearly as common as it was several years ago. Regardless, if I had to find a new job and a business didn’t want to hire me because I have tattoos, then it isn’t the kind of business I would want to work for anyway.

I do believe the OP should truly consider if they will want the tattoo in 10 or 20 years (I am not implying OP won’t). I think too many people get tattoos on a whim and can be disappointed in what they chose to have tattooed. Having said that, too many people also try to tell you that you will regret it when that may not be the case at all. Many years back I also encountered people who told me I would regret my tattoos 5 or 10 years down the road. They were wrong. I regret none of my tattoos. They all mean something personal to me. I regret none because I carefully considered what I wanted to have permanently inked on to my body.

EDIT: I also concur with carefully choosing your tattoo artist before proceeding. I have seen some horrendous work done by shoddy artists. Look through their portfolio, talk to them at length, etc. etc.

I just made a new character this evening. I had not logged in since daily reset so the new character received the login reward chest. However, he got 2……

I had 2 login reward chests showing so I clicked to open the first one and it showed me at Day 1, which is incorrect. I clicked “save for later” and opened the second chest which showed me at the correct day, Day 9. So I accepted that reward.

Is this a bug? Or did I miss something? I am worried if I accept that Day 1 reward (to get the chest to go away) it will reset my daily login reward back to Day 1 instead of Day 9.

In regard to examples like the coin flipping:

Think of it this way: each individual time you flip the coin, it’s still a 50/50 chance it lands on tails. So if you flipped the coin 999 times and got tails 899 times, then on that 1000th flip it is still a 50/50 chance it lands on tails.

Having it land on tails 899/999 times previously has no bearing whatsoever on the 1000th flip. None at all.

Thats not how it works…

It is, actually. Any results from previous flips of the coin don’t tally up in a magical scale to influence what the next outcome will be. When you physically flip that coin, it’s a 50/50 chance. Every single time.

Either you are unable to argue against what I stated or you’re trying to troll me. In any case, I’m done. This thread won’t be brought any further off topic on my account beyond this post.

Good. Farewell. Please go elsewhere with your backtracking.

Frankly who cares? I certainly dont. Farming the crests is kitten-easy. Two nights of farming maps from foothold to vinewrath (couple hours each), and I’ve got 2k crests, even after spending close to 500 on keys and shovels. Imagine if someone decided to spend the entire day farming? You dont need to be able to trade in the boxes when it’s easy to get them. And to be honest, the only people who’d want that ability is if they cant play long enough to get other pieces, and can only spend 20-30 minutes chest hunting.

Tell me more about crest farming for coat boxes. Now if ANet confirmed that they would put the coat boxes at the vendor in two weeks for 1000 crests (when they hopefully introduce extractors for eyes and kidneys), then I personally will have no more criticisms.

I think making the assumption the coat boxes will be added to the crest vendor shortly down the road is a rather safe assumption considering they’ve added, you know, every single other piece over time.

…….
But what ticked me off most of all, was that Anet player was with them. So that is OK with Anet – players ruining other players experience.

I feel my 1h was soundly wasted.
…….

The enjoyment a player gets out of their experience is subjective and differs for everyone. If that group of players were forced to stop doing their chest farm to help you with the forts/defenses it might ruin their experience at that moment. They might have felt their time was wasted. This is all up to the individual.

Personally, mine depends on my mood. Sometimes I go full on taking/defending forts, etc. Sometimes I just want to kick back and run a chest farm to use all those keys/shovels I earned from those events. If I feel like doing one of these things and I find myself in a map doing the other thing, I just look for a new map that aligns with what I want to do.

You may not like what they were doing but this also isn’t something you should be able to report anyone for. Nor should the Anet person be ashamed for it. They did nothing wrong. You say they ruined your experience, right? What if that Anet player had 100 shovels saved up and used them to help everyone in that zerg dig up chests to open? Then they just did something that enhanced the enjoyment those players running the zerg got during that chest farm. It’s all subjective. You may not like it but that doesn’t make it wrong.

The might change, internally at Anet, was not only due to celestial ele, it was just one motivating factor.

If there were several aspects/areas of the game they wanted to tweak, nerfing just celestial would only address one or two of those areas whereas the might nerf could possibly address several.

Naturally I can’t say that for certain, I am just guessing.

Why a paid expansion makes sense

Dont get me wrong, it would likely mean every single piece of content introduced would of been designed with how much they can stuff into the cash shop in mind.

Infact, It will likely be like paying to get exclusive access to the new store items!

My exact fear if the expansion is NOT paid. When their model is gem shop driven, you get gem shop centric content. If their model is based on selling a couple million boxes or digital downloads, the content itself becomes pivotal.

You mean like GW2 itself? Each and every one of us paid for the game, yet the content is always gem store driven. what would make an expansion different?

The content is not always gem store driven.

This is just a silly quibble. Handguns (the correct terminology for what we’re talking about) can require the use of two hands. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handgun (first sentence). If you have any doubts, trying firing http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Category4_750001_750051_775664_-1_775655_757896_image with one hand.

We’re not talking about handguns, we’re talking about pistols. Did you not read any of the posts you responded to? Here, this is from your own link:

“Some handgun experts make a technical distinction that views pistols as a subset of handguns. Sometimes in American usage, the term “pistol” refers to a handgun having one chamber integral with the barrel, making pistols distinct from the other main type of handgun, the revolver, which has a revolving cylinder containing multiple chambers."

And

“The first handheld firearms that might better be called “pistols” were made as early as the 15th century, but their creator is unknown."

Maybe in the future not only read what you’re responding to, but also the links you post as, in this case, they might refute your argument.
Despite this, the fact remains there were no pistols in the 13th century. You can argue semantics all you want, but you’re not correct. No one with any shred of historical knowledge or firearms knowledge would make such an inaccurate statement and trying to defend the existence of 13th century pistols is like trying to argue that the Mughal Empire had tanks because they armored elephants and mounted guns on their backs. It’s simply not true.

Just to be clear and have our facts straight, as wikipedia says also:

“The word “pistol” is often synonymous with the word “handgun”. "

In general usage they can be used to refer to the same thing.

And no I am not arguing about the timeline of their creation at all. But if you are going to tell people to get their facts straight, you should do the same.

And then the rest of that paragraph (and the page) go on to state why the words are actually not synonymous and why experts make a distinction. So yeah, I have my facts straight. You may want to do the same.

Here’s something for you to read:

“A pistol is a handgun – but not all handguns are pistols.”

http://hunting.about.com/od/guns/g/glossary-definition-of-pistol.htm

Furthermore it seems you’re unaware that the OP specifically stated pistol and not handgun. Again, facts are useful.

From that paragraph:
Some handgun experts make a technical distinction that views pistols as a subset of handguns. Sometimes in usage, the term “pistol” refers to a handgun having one chamber integral with the barrel, making pistols distinct from the other main type of handgun, the revolver, which has a revolving cylinder containing multiple chambers. But UK/Commonwealth usage often does not make this distinction.

So, “some”, “sometimes” but often does not. My only point here is that in general usage/conversation many people use the words interchangeably. I, personally, do not. I actually do make a distinction between the words. So, if someone used the words as synonyms, referring to the first pistol being from the time period where the first handgun was made, would be correct.

Oh and pointing out that the OP asked specifically for Pistols and not Handguns doesn’t matter. The weapon is in the game under the name Pistol, regardless of what the skin looks like or what type of real-life weapon it does/doesn’t resemble.

But this is getting rather off-topic…..

On topic, I agree with OP. I agree pistols, in general, need some more skins. “Modern” looking or otherwise.

I also think when they add new legendary weapons, they should add a new pistol to balance out Quip. Legendary weapons like Quip, the Moot and the Dreamer will only appeal to a certain niche due to their physical appearance and effects.

If you’re so confused that you’re willing to defend the labeling of a 13th century Chinese hand cannon as a pistol, despite what every historian or firearms enthusiast will tell you, I don’t think we have anything more to discuss.

I didn’t actually defend that. But since it is obvious you enjoy feeling like you are correct all the time as evidenced here and on other threads, think what you will. I agree, we have nothing more to discuss. It is useless and you aren’t worth the effort. I bid you good day.

Back to the topic…..
I don’t think modern pistol skins would ruin anything. They don’t have to be exact models of real pistols, just something in a relatively similar vein. More options is a good thing.

Salvage kit Slot

A variation on this (and would also be a solution to this)…..

I would like to see an account bag slot added to the game, purchasable for gems. Same as other bag slots where you equip whatever size bag you want but the bag is shared by all characters on your account. This would be a nice QoL change I think. I use several items across multiple characters (salvage kits, consumables, ascended/legendary weapons/armor, etc.) and being able to have a bag slot that stays constant across all of my characters would be great. Granted we have the bank to do something similar but if I want to get the items from one character to another I have to bring the first to a bank before logging out and bring the second to the bank after logging in. It isn’t a gigantic hassle but an account bag would just make it much easier and I would gladly pay for the ability.

My main mmo is GW2 but i didnt vote for ArenaNet because i dont think they actually are a good company at last for me… one prove was the recently delay for the next episode of the living story and theyre excuses that dont make any sence when they will release the new daily system and wintersday… i love gw2 but i dont like to play without knowing nothing about the future of the game… and theyre “delays”… for me the only good think that this game have is the actual content that the game had when it was in open beta and fractals all the content after that its like a “filler” to me… and the way this company works for me its wrong… its sad when pll I know call this game Filler Walls 2 instead of Guild Wars 2…

You say the next LS episode is “delayed”….they never said it was coming in December. It just won’t be coming at the same interval as previous chapters. A lot of companies have breaks near the holidays. people take vacations, etc. It just so happens that this holiday break will push LS back to January for the next chapter. They could have very easily held off releasing the new daily system as well until that time rather than with the Wintersday update. Chances are the daily system was closer to completion than the next LS chapter so they finished that up to be ready for next week’s update and will finish up the next LS chapter in the first couple weeks of January. Wintersday is an annual event so the content for that is already created so it does not require much to put back in the game. So implying that they could have done the LS chapter but chose Wintersday/Daily Update instead isn’t really fair. You have no idea what’s in the next LS chapter or how long it took to make. A LS chapter requires art, dialog, new zone(s) etc. etc., but a daily achievement update wouldn’t, just changes to the UI and the underlying code for daily/monthly achievements.

On these forums, so very many balance suggestions equate to: “I’m upset because X class kills me a lot. Change their mechanics so I don’t have to learn how they work.”

Maybe if you understood the mechanics of stealth it would, you know, help you to counter it.

How in any way would a County/State office see or care that you played a video game, entered a raffle that accepts virtual items, and gives out a virtual item as a reward? It’s a video game.

You seem to forget, that (due to Second Life, and WoW account sellers) there was at some time serious push to make all the virtual income taxable by the state. Yes, in US. IRS was really serious about that. It fell through, of course, but it wasn’t because “it was a video game”. Technically, a slot machine can be also considered to be “only a game”.

A slot machine is “only a game” that you put real money directly into it (or tokens you purchased with real money). The raffle in a video game is entirely different.

[Suggestion] Hard mode for Pve

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wolfheart.7483

NONESENSE – the game would have to be turned into a GW1 style – with the same servers, etc. Sorry your post is impossible. It could be done with Dungeons but not the normal PvE areas. Part of the megaserver is to put as many players in one area.

With down leveling in lower level areas of the game, all one would need to do is use armor/weapons/trinkets from those areas, not use your lvl 80 items. It would make the game that much harder. That might be easier than actually trying to rewrite this game for the people who think they need uber areas.

How is it impossible to have 2 Plains of Ashford zones (for example) that you can pick when you enter the zone (either by clicking on a WP in PoA or going thru a portal). In the Normal Zone, everything is as it is now (downleveling, ect.), but in the HARD mode zone, EVERYTHING is lvl 80+, can re-clear the map (with new titles, etc.) maybe some differences in the Hearts (or no Hearts like Orr). Enemies respawn much faster, have 5 to 10 times more Vets, increase the number of Champs add better AI mechanics and possibly more exploitable chests that require keys (or even timed events like the Sandstorms).

It is NOT technically impossible at all and there was NOTHING wrong with this type of thing when it was rolled out in GW1….I fail to see how it would be a bad thing (sans the population issue…see below).

Now I agree something like this would effect zone populations and potentailly segregate the population into “hardcore” players and casuals but cities would still be common hubs (and maybe you don’t do this with starter zones?).

My point was it is CERTAINLY technically feasible and the revitalizing potential of such an “update” is too great to just discount because you think it’s too much like GW1 or would potentially cause community issues (that could be worked around to some extent).

Because the server system doesn’t work that way in GW2, It puts you into one until it gets to a certain point and then makes another area (say area 2) of the same map.

They could make maps duplicated in smaller sections. For example:

Instead of instancing an entire Plains of Ashford for one person/group to do a hard mode/vanquish ala GW1, Plains of Ashford could be divided into, say, four or six sections maybe. You enter and vanquish or something similar in hard mode. This is not impossible to do, in fact the mechanic is already in the game: Personal Story instances. They just need to expand the area a bit. But those story instances are parts of the existing world that are instanced for a solo player or their whole party.

Expand the area a bit from Personal Story size. Create vanquishing challenges or other hard mode content. Make it so challenges perhaps can only be completed once (like vanquishing in GW1) or maybe once a day for max reward (like dungeons) so they can’t be excessively farmed.

At this rate...a big let down.

Why should we not log in though :S we enjoy the game, it’s the reason we’re on the forums now posting our opinion. What you’re offering isn’t a solution but a pseudo feeling of receiving what we’re asking for

Ok log in, but don’t play LS

This is basically how it works in games that do expansions. No new content for months on end.
It’s what you’re asking for, so don’t play LS for 1 year. There’s your expansion.

LOL even if I just let the LS accumulate being that I go into it at already lvl 80 I could easily solo the story side alone within a week or two. Waiting a year for a few weeks of story is a waste of time. The person you are replying to would be better to just do the LS as they come out and then log out untill the next update. :P

except, that is exactly what would happen with an expansion.

You just think there’s more content because it comes in a box.

Not strictly true starting a character from scratch and going through the personal story took a great deal more time, even if you only also factor leveling on the way ontop of the fact that personal story is very long from the start and didn’t need to build up over time like the LS/LW.

Living world may well be as long overall as the PS but when I go into living world and I’m already level 80, already have a build set up and can just plough through it solo unlike the getting stuck of the Personal story I did before, climbing levels, with incomplete builds that required you to team up with other people from time to time because not starting at level 80 with decent kit makes the process more difficult.

I don’t think there is more content just because it comes in a box, (gosh how insulting are you?) but what content there is certainly seems to last longer that way when you remember GW2’s predecessor.
In gw1 when we got the Cantha expansion we could start a new character in that expansion or if our Prophecies chars were high enough level transport them over. But if you started with a character from scratch again it did last longer because you had to level as you did it.
Some may call that a grind. But sadly the less grindy it is the shorter it lasts because the developers can’t meet our demand for new content fast enough. Ideally whether new content comes in the form of an expansion or the LS (I don’t actually care which as long as it comes) they may eventually get that balance between flow of story and making it last long enough to keep players satisfied. But that’s a matter of perspective.

This may be semantics to some, but Factions and Nightfall were stand alone campaigns. Eye of the North was an expansion in the more traditional sense. So I think comparing EotN to the additional GW2 content is a bit more fair than comparing GW2s additional content to stand alone campaign releases.

Suggestion: HoM skins unlockable via gemstore

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wolfheart.7483

I, as many others, played countless hours of GW1 and worked hard to get all the HoM skins. You shouldn’t be able to just buy them now. You can’t have everything. If you don’t want to go back and play GW1 and earn those rewards, you don’t deserve to have them. See it isn’t just about random skins. If you want something GW1 related there are 3 armor sets on the gem store made to resemble GW1 skins. Those were just skins referencing back to GW1, I don’t mind them being sold on the gem store now. The skins for HoM were specifically created and made available to people who played GW1 and earned them. That is the entire reason the skins exist. They have a purpose behind them. It is the same for an account bound skin reward in GW2. If you earn an account bound skin through accomplishing something in the game, those specific skins should not be sold on the gem store. Period.

I don’t really PVP much but I want the Fires of Balthazar back piece skin. I should not be able to buy that on the gem store. Other people have had to earn it. So should I.

ele aggro?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Wolfheart.7483

Wolfheart.7483

It’s not the damage output. The aggro system is simply designed in a way that the class with the lowest sustain (HP, armor) will get attacked first. That’s why eles draw such insane aggro. It’s not the damage output because if you pay attention for a few runs, you will see that the first boss in cof p1 will always attack you first in the beginning of a fight. This question was already raised a few times in this forum btw. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like Anet is going to fix this broken system.

Damage does play a role in it just not for every enemy. Not all enemies use the same exact aggro mechanic.

I have the feeling that those who complain about lack of permanent content are slumming here from their subscription MMO and are upset when they return here after exhausting the content in their “primary” MMO, find that they can’t play the content that came and went during their time away. They find it unfair that they have to “devote” themselves to this MMO to experience the content. That they can’t take time off because they will miss something.

Welcome to TV before reruns, syndication, streaming, DVRs and box sets. Now we have a DVR. Maybe we’ll get a box set for season 1 someday.

I think it is pretty safe to say that we will be getting an expansion.

To which they could post a few pics or even a video, would it kill them to bring our hopes up just a tiny bit of a fraction? Or is it easier to ignore the fan base totally until they go play other games?

Are you kidding? If they released even a single screenshot, hell if they even announced an expansion, within a week the forum would be overrun with:

-“WTF, why isn’t the expansion out?”
-“Anet lied to us again….”,
-“They need to focus on fixing the game not making an expansion”
-“The expansion better include Cantha or I am leaving GW2”
-“The expansion will probably just break the [insert-persons-main-class-choice] even more since they hate [insert class again]s more than any other class.”
-“So they announced the expansion, why won’t they give us a release date? The lack of communication is absurd.”

If they are making an expansion, they should wait till it’s mostly finished to even tell anyone at all. So their announcement could include relevant info of what’s absolutely going into the expansion. If, during developing some part of the expansion, some things had to be changed or removed for whatever reason, and they already announced that feature(s) they will never…..EVER….live it down. Especially on this forum. The amount of “Anet lied again” posts from the whiny, exaggerating, self-entitled babies that plague this (and virtually any) forum would be completely over the top.

There is no reason to open the floodgates by announcing something until it is concrete.

Oh and just because you feel ignored (and yes some others, too, obviously) that does not equate to the player base feeling ignored. When will people learn that just because they feel a specific way about something doesn’t mean everyone else does? Dear forum posters, you speak for yourself. Period. Forum whiners are the vast minority of the player base.

[Suggestion] Infinite Gathering tools per alt

Wolfheart.7483

I’m all about immersion.

Eight people somehow simultaneously holding the same gathering tools doesn’t sound immersive.

In fact, you missed the threads that popped up protesting the announcement of “account-wide gold”. Saying that magically having the same wallet in everyone’s pocket at once was breaking immersion.

What you are asking for is a convenience, but NOBODY would call it immersive.

“But they DID change that, so why can’t they change this?”

In the end, I think the issue is that these are actual items, and go in a slot that is also being used for NON-infinite versions. The question is, “Can they code this to work this way WITHOUT reprogramming the game from scratch and WITHOUT breaking anything while they do it?” The answer to this is usually “no” – programming is not magic, it has rules. I don’t pretend to understand them, but there are people on these forums who DO know programming, and can back me up on the fact that it’s complicated to make “small” changes, when they’re tied into core gameplay – everything touches everything else.

If it is possible for them to do without more work than it’s worth digging through, then maybe – maybe – this can eventually happen. I put those odds somewhere in the realm of microscopic, though.

but, they could’ve kept them soulbound, increased the price and send it in mail to every current alt and any alt created, just like the golem banker from the delux upgrade.

And this is exactly what they should’ve done.
I’d pay 1500gems for an infinite tool on ALL my alts.

Obviously, but maybe someone will pay a bunch of money for a few gathering tool for each alt.

I dont’ think Anet make wardrobe or dye account bound for charity. If they actually think they’ll make more money making gathering tool for every character, they might do it.

If all they were after was the money from you possibly buying gathering tools for alts, then they wouldn’t have released the wardrobe, either, because it negates the chance that you’d buy a gem store armor skin you really like for multiple characters.

Yeah, I think maybe some of us are talking past each other. I don’t think Anet owes anybody anything. I think they could decide tomorrow to shut down the game, or to give everyone free ascended weapons, or whatever, without incurring any debts. This isn’t, to me, about what’s owed.

It’s just that they made a lot of people feel like they wasted a lot of time and gold, and it’s in their power to get rid of that feeling, if they so desire. But before adding the title, it seemed like they thought it was fine. Or, at least, that they couldn’t do anything about it that wouldn’t harm the rest of the game more. Eh, I disagree, but sure, whatever. But now it seems like they changed their mind and decided they should actually do something about it. Except all they did is add a title, which is a joke.

(I haven’t talked to the npc to get my title. I honestly don’t think it’s worth the 30 seconds or whatever it would take.)

I think using the term “a lot” here is probably a bit of an overestimation. The people affected by this particular issue are people who crafted 2 of the same exact legendary weapon. Naturally I don’t know how many people that is but I am willing to bet it is an exceptionally small percentage of the player population.

Them adding the title doesn’t mean they are acknowledging they should do something, as if they feel obligated because they did something wrong. It is them giving something extra for players who feel they should get something. This is just a customer service nod. Good customer service often involves giving that little extra even when the customer is wrong and doesn’t deserve it.

Not directly related, but something that would help me and those that move them from alt to alt would be an account wide inventory bag. Then we could just put something we wanted to move to a different character in there.

I wanted to second this post . I love this suggestion, beyond all the others. A special, additional (beyond the normal max of 8 ) bag slot that can be purchased that spans all of your characters.

This idea not only benefits the infinite tools being easier to move character to character but several other items. I move ascended and legendary items between characters. If I use sharpening stones on multiple characters I could just keep one large stack in that bag. Boosters could be kept in the bag. Etc.

I think this is a great idea and I believe many people would buy this from the gem store, I sure as hell would.

Funny! That looks just like the ticket I submitted when I had multiple soulbound infinite harvesting tools. Exchanging those for gems I can understand when they changed them to account bound. Exchanging a second incinerator for a bolt…not so much. If that’s the case, Anet please take one of my Infinite Lights and give me a Mjolnir. That would be swell.

At least your legendaries are account bound and you can change stats on the fly. Try 2 soulbound Infinite Lights or any expensive soulbound item you may have 2 of.

I built two incinerators.

Why are you so kittened off?

At the current tradepost price, the incinerator is worth about 3100g or so. At current exchange rate of 1 g to 0.18 USD, just one cost about 558 USD in gold.

But you can give your legendary to your other characters!

Ascended gear can be given to other characters, so I didn’t pay 3100g to have that skill.

But you can trade and swap stats on it all you want.

I didn’t spend the thousands of hours to grind a weapon that can swap stats on the fly, I spent all that time to have matching skins. It costs me 62g to craft another one. 22g for the Deldrimor steel required, 2 for the dusts, and about 38g for the Inscription. Even if I used the feature, the dagger comes with 18 unique stat combos. Each would, again, run me about 62g. 18*62=1116g. Assuming I cared about having access to each and every dagger combo in the game, which I don’t, I would still be shafted out of around 2000g. All I wanted was the skin.

Get over it. With a persistent online game, such as Guild Wars 2, there are bound to be changes over time. Some of those changes will inevitably lead to situations like this. This addition of the wardrobe had many more positive aspects to it than negative.

But I don’t think anybody is saying that the wardrobe overall was bad just because of this. People are just saying that they wish this particular issue had been handled differently.

For the record, I’m one of the ones who wishes it had been handled differently. I have two bolts, and I wish they’d unbound one of them. Does it kitten me off? No, not at all. It’s just a teeny, tiny little annoyance that I’m reminded of every time I swap to my s/s set.

But my problem with the title is that it seems to indicate that Anet eventually did realize that some people were unhappy with the circumstances, and then decided that the best thing they could do to remedy this was to give those people a title. That’s incredibly frustrating.

It’s also kinda a little slap in the face. Suppose, I dunno, you’re fired from a job and you’re sore, because you think you didn’t deserve to be fired. (Or maybe something less drastic—you’re suspended without pay for a week or something. It’s only a little thing, after all.) But you move on. Three months later, the company sends you a card. “Sorry, yeah, we screwed you there. Bye.” If that card is all they think they can send, they shouldn’t send anything.

I understand what you’re driving at, really I do. I understand why someone might be frustrated, I do. I still don’t think they are owed anything. You’re metaphor for being fired would be more like if Anet banned someone from the game and later send them an email saying they made a mistake but the player still couldn’t come back. Which I sincerely doubt they would do. This circumstance is far different from that. I would equate it more to something like this:

At my job I am salaried, not hourly. If we have an overflow of work to do and I go to the powers-that-be and I say we need to hire someone else to spread out work load and keep performance high but they say “no”, so I work double the hours to make up for it. Then afterward they say: “Hey hiring someone else is a good idea and it’ll be a great quality of life improvement for other workers.” That would be a bit upsetting to me. However, the company doesn’t owe me anything extra. It just means going forward, I won’t have to endure that same exact circumstance again.

It isn’t precisely the same thing but the point I am going for is that at the time I did the double hours, the structure of the business and decisions made up to that point put me in the situation where I had to in order to achieve my end goal which was maintaining high performance. Just as the game structure, before the wardrobe, forced a player to make duplicate legendaries if their goal was to dual wield that skin. They did what was necessary. A change was made to the game so that, going forward, they won’t face the same circumstance again. I simply don’t feel Anet owes them anything for it.

+1 for this.

ArenaNet doesn’t owe anybody a refund. There is no possible universe where I can feel sorry for someone who went out of their way to get two of the same Legendary, just so they could match. This is like listening to a billionaire who bought an extra yacht so his cat could have its own, then whining that yachts went half-price the following year and now their cat is no longer privileged.

Even setting aside how ridiculous it is that this situation is even happening, you have nothing to complain about. Nothing got taken away from you. Your items did not get any worse. You put in the time/money/resources to get two of the same legendary weapon, and you still have two of the same legendary weapon. And you did it before there was even a title for it, so now you have this free extra thing.

I can understand that it seems a bit unfair, that there are people who crafted only one legendary pistol or dagger, and now they can apply the skin to their other one. And that kind of sucks for someone who did it the hard way. But, just as there was no way for you to know Wardrobe was coming, neither did ArenaNet when they first made the game. Sometimes, these things happen. It is unfortunate, but I really just shake my head at the sentiment of “Boo hoo, I made two legendaries and now I won’t look doubly as special!”

So they refunded half the billionaires and the other half they told no. Seems fair…

Show us proof of all of those refunds, not just what you think they did or what other players told you happened.

Are you a supervisor in their support department with logs of what refunds were given and which were denied? Didn’t think so.

I’d be careful, your counter argument seems to hinge on the same lack of confirmation that you are contending. I just want to add that it’s been my personal experience with another company that when they do decide to go the compensation route for things like this, there is often internal criteria for who gets compensated. And usually, that stuff remains secret short of a court order. Not divulging internal information or the bureaucratic machinery of customer support and P.R. decisions makes customers angry. Understandable when you are left in the dark. But there’s very little you can do about it. Anet changed the way skins work, some people lost out, and some people benefited. Significant changes to mechanics like this happen in mmos and they do damage control where they expect the most pushback. Imagine if/when they decide to raise the level cap and you have to get new gear. What will the outcry look like then? Especially considering they have said they might actually do that.

He is the one making the assumption/claim about the quantity of refunds, hence he is burdened with proving it. I have made no such assumption one way or the other.
