I don’t know what keeps causing this but sometimes I just lose the ability to edit, quote and do things of that nature but I can still comment and start threads.
Is this a feature or bug?
So this thread has seemingly gone off in the wrong direction again so I’ll simplify it.
Is there any GW1 references regarding the player from GW1? (I’m pretty sure this is a no)
Is there some reason why the GW1 character did not prevent events within their control from unfolding?
Did the GW1 character at some point (not through aging) die?
Why has A-Net not simply published something definitive about all the events of GW1?
@BuddhaKeks The stuff about Kormir was mostly supposed to be a joke. I didn’t realize that Kormir was hated so much previously so I’m sure it came off that way. The only complaint about Kormir I have that I feel is valid is that anyone could have become a god because as a god she has done nothing. I can’t see why there was a need to create a new god if right after the gods just left Tyria. Anyone could have just left Tyria.
Also from a gameplay perspective Kormir did absolutely no work. Her spear does no damage and her shouts are only useful for speedbuffs (plus she always, always, always obstructs your path), however story wise she is very integral to the plot and overall a much better character than Traherne who is useless (but thats for another topic).
Just wanted to address that because I think that has overshadowed the actual topic a bit. The only reason I feel the player should become a god instead of Kormir is because I feel like it would have been awesome not because the player was more deserving just because it would be cool (: P).
@Acaelus Thorne I’m not sure what you’re trying to inform me of. I have beaten NF multiple times so I am aware of the story.
I figured as much when I started this thread. So I guess there isn’t any references then which is fine just wish they would have killed off the GW1 character to stop all the loose ends.
They did . . . rather, time did. There are about three to five generations worth of time between then and now
Not what I meant, I meant in the actual game in a way that would prevent the person from preventing certain present plot points in GW2.
I’m just too easily bothered by potential plot holes, it’s not a good trait to have especially when watching movies.

Short answer? No referencing them because it’s not expected for everyone who plays this game played the first game. Which is one reason why the Hall of Monument rewards are mostly cosmetic-only.
Longer answer? It’s really hard to create one unified character to represent the thousands or more player characters which existed. Add in that not everyone who played GW1 did all the content together. Some only did Nightfall, some skipped it, some didn’t do anything but Prophecies . . .
Really hard to deal with that from a writing standpoint, let alone logistical one. Look how Knights of the Old Republic 2 got forced to deal with it. Or the Fable series. These are two off the top of my head which got around the idea of not knowing what entirely happened in the original game. I’m sure others exist.
This is a little sloppy and rambling but really it boils down to:
“The writers decided it would be easier for them to be less visible than characters who had a specific historical slot written for them.”
I figured as much when I started this thread. So I guess there isn’t any references then which is fine just wish they would have killed off the GW1 character to stop all the loose ends.
Oh yay, more Kormir hate… She did plenty, but the player couldn’t be a god for mechanic, lore, and so forth reasons. I’m sure if Nightfall was a novel or movie or something less “you, the player, is the hero”-ish of a medium, folks wouldn’t hold one bit of disdain for Kormir (for becoming a god that is). Also, titles were not lore so no you never had the same rank as Kormir (tbh, that was a very weird thing Anet did…).
Ogden wasn’t the only dwarf to not undergo the Rite of the Great Dwarf right away (Alkar you see as flesh after the initial Rite; as well as all those Stone Summit within Slavers’ Exile), however, every single dwarf eventually did – and within 50 years to boot. All dwarves were magically compelled to undergo the rite (before doing so, though, the Stone Summit made peace with the Deldrimor dwarves again – since they sensed the end of their age coming with the upcoming need to undergo said Rite). Since this was well after the Great Dwarf’s death, the GW1 PC was likely not nearby. And it wasn’t forced – even Ogden said he would eventually, just not yet.
Joko’s ruling because the players didn’t (though he was playing a goodie-goodie for a while except when Thorn was involved). End of story. If you actually paid attention, the PC kittens a lot of kitten up – from the very beginning to the very end, be it letting Rurik die (thus pushing Adelbern further over the edge of insanity that led to the Foefire), only killing the White Mantle’s leadership and leaving it alone for 7 years, unleashing the Titans (though admittedly they fixed that), disappearing after Shiro’s death and doing nothing about the Afflicted, Kurzick/Luxon war re-igniting, or Togo’s death for 7 years again, unleashing Joko and doing nothing about him, unleashing Dhuum (all those trips to the Underworld also caused the Godslost Swamp situation too), letting the White Mantle live after the War in Kryta, and lastly letting Ashu – a young brainwashed kid – lead a fanatic oppressive regime. In the end, you got to realize: our characters were dumb as kitten. Or had no sense of “long term goals.”
And that is probably why they’re forgotten in being mentioned by the game. Over half of today’s problems were caused by them! Even the centaur war is due to the PCs (the Modniir are waging war of vengeance for their tribe being nearly wiped out during GW1).
And besides, who would want to write epic tales about the fool dancing with a mini fungal wallow? Clearly that “hero” got hit in the head a few too many times. :P
I don’t hate Kormir its just that the way the story proceeded (imo) the gods could have chosen anyone to become the next god. The gods could have given the power to a rock, the player could have thrown it into Abaddon’s power after he was killed and it takeover instead. It would have done the same amount of work she did as a god. None! I’m not really serious about her having done no work just that she didn’t do very much to aid the player beyond shout “incoming”.
The dwarf thing doesn’t make much sense to me. I assume you have a source so I won’t ask although I can’t see any logical reason why the dwarves would choose to become stone. It just feels like the race was killed off unnaturally (intentionally by themselves) when they could easily continue on just as before.
The player messes a lot of stuff up but the character never stays dead in GW1 so without an explanation I feel like I they should easily have just gone and defeated Joko before any of his evils unfolded.
Theres no logic behind unleashing Dhuum as the player puts him to sleep when they do so idk what you mean by that. Dhuum currently rising would be unrelated to GW1.
As the player clearly cuts off a few loose ends stopping the mantle in WiK (The white mantle in GW2 are a joke so as far as I can tell letting then live caused no problems so far.) and afflicted/GW2 Mesmer thing in WoC I think it’s safe to assume the player was trying to fix its mistakes. Also I doubt vanquishing counts as lore but the player actually kills all the white mantle, afflicted and Joko’s minions, also centaurs would be extinct along with the iron summit.
Appreciate the response even though we often have different views.
I’m probably living in the past or missed a reference somewhere or something, but I just feel like the GW1 player character gets any recognition at all.
First of all in GW Nightfall the player does all the work and for some reason (not one I’m very fond of : P) Kormir becomes a god instead of the player. She honestly didn’t do very much and by the end of the game the player can have the same rank as her (via titles) yet she is worshipped like she actually at some point in her life helped someone. My character can wear a blindfold too and I get no sympathy for the lack of vision. I’m heartless I know.
With the other Gods there are actually stories of them doing things like helping people, tricking people, killing people. As a god Kormir did nothing and as a human she did less. Yet she is worshipped and the player just died or something idk maybe they will add more content to GW1.
Furthermore Ogden Stonehealer the only normal dwarf (as far as I can tell) to not have undergone the process of becoming stone is just randomly stone. I read on the wiki that the dwarves made this essential for all dwarves to undergo the process but why? Even if they tried to force him couldn’t the player just stop them and even kill them if necessary as the Great Destroyer was dead (with Ogden’s help who wasn’t stone at the time) so they no longer had any function. Ogden could have just went home back to his family continued his race but nope.
Back to nightfall again why is Palawa Joko even ruling Elona the player could have put him back into the ground as soon as Abbadon was defeated but once again nope. Where did the player go? Did Joko just kill all the wurms or something?
Also why so much follow up to the characters from eotn with statues and references but none to that random dancing fool with a mini fungal wallow who killed the lich atop the bloodstone, beat impossible odds, then beat them both simutaneously (separately if doing bonus : P) and a god? Again I’m probably missing a reference somewhere as I can’t remember seeing any.

As far as I can tell all teleport skills are bugged and can put you to places where you shouldn’t be. I can’t post a link but its safe to say it should be fixed.
Maybe the eye of zanthir is the other eye it doesn’t look for chosen it looks for the normal people. : P
but yeah probs a typo.
I did a solo of CM and this is part 2 of it. Might upload part 1. This video is just to show the problem. Might do butler path at some point.
Modrator edit: removed the youtube link
(edited by Moderator)
This title used to be a lot more tedious to do but they updated it to make it much quicker and easier. Tbh it’s not really as great a feat as it used to be. I honestly don’t think its worth going past 30/50 as the titles are worthless hope they update it at some point.
I just finished a solo of CM-Asura path and noticed that every boss can be beaten with exploits, so my next suggestion to help fix them is give mobs the ability to attack up or down based on where the player is.
I think that this could help frost who is unable to shoot upwards towards the target(or he was obstructed during my solo idk).
Edit: I thought about it and I have no idea what I was thinking when I made this. Mobs can already attack vertically Frost was just unable to hit me for some unknown reason during my solo.

Hi!
So I was running around Lions Arch with my dual wield Fiery Dragon Sword and Jormag’s Breath, and thought how EPIC it would be if there was a way for me to combine them into an awesome frostfire greatsword of some sort, and then I started thinking about how much the HoM gear could be used for unique upgrades. These could be with simple item combinations or a very complex and expensive such as using the Gift items and alot of ectos to make.
I believe that the HoM rewards are really nice, and I really loved that and it made me look forward to it. But after a time it became a little too familiar and I felt like trying new things and using new weapon/armor skins, but I also feel like it’s a waste to have so many cool stuff available for me through the HoM system and yet not use them because I’ve been seeing them for pretty much all of my leveling period.
If there was a way to upgrade gear from the HoM by combining it with other GW2 gear to make some very unique stuff, maybe some more GW1 armor sets, or maybe even some new sets! Things that people thought would really be nice in GW1 like what happened with the Fellblade, making it a Greatswords was a very nice move!
I would love to see such a thing implemented to the game, it would make the loyal GW1 players feel alot more rewarded. I know I would.
I’m not against this as I’d also like to see some upgrades to HoM gear but I’d prefer if they just added rewards for 30-50 points and gwamm too because the titles are worthless in GW2. The only HoM titles I use are Guild Warrior and Legend of the mists because people think they’re pvp titles. Very cool idea though.
Not a fan of the fellblade becoming a greatsword. It just doesn’t make sense to me as the appeal for the fellblade in GW1 came (for me at least) from the fact that it was a giant 1 handed sword. To make it worse the fellblade uses a 1h sword icon.
The rainbow jelly also is the exact same as the blue jelly.
Lately I’ve been tryin to solo AC and I’ve noticed that most bosses can be easily killed using terrain exploits.
I just enjoy looking for bugs in games (idk why) but there is a clear issue with enemy AI so I have a suggestion to reduce these easy to do exploits
Have a timer on bosses that will reset them if they have not performed an action + haven’t moved at all in about a minute or so.
Also this is not just in AC I’ve seen other boss exploits and enemy exploits on other dungeons.
Not sure how people feel about dungeons and exploits if it increases/decreases fun etc if you do enjoy exploits hope they ignore this post.
Examples:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCBEqARXUQQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XetkKyGZCcY
…..How about no? Maybe your the minority and should play thief if you honestly feel like this is helping them.
Not sure what you’re proposing but like I said I rarely play wvw. I just noticed that there is an abundance of thieves compared to other classes I see so something needs to change. When I do WvW however I notice why people always play thief as they are very effective at multiple things.
Whether or not this is changed barely effects me.
I rarely wvw but when I decide to i always notice that the majority of the enemy team is thieves and probably my team too.
So here are my suggestions to fix this:
1. Nerf thieves
2. Remove the ability to stealth finish (not sure why its possible at all)
3. Buff other classes or have a buff that allows the ability to see stealthed players
4. Give all other classes GW1 SF with a 20% enchant DSR, wild strike, original asuran scan and order them free pizza for a month.
Some of these may lead to players never playing thieves in wvw again which is a win for everyone especially thieves.
I’ve brought this topic up myself and have recieved no reply as to whether it will fixed. The issue has nothing to do with auto attack in general just that the leap is useless in pve. The sword auto attack includes a cripple which if for some reason the player was having trouble keeping up with an enemy would be sufficient to do so. I have yet to encounter any enemy in pve that I needed the leap in order to keep up with. I have also heard players use the leap to get to a certain enemy thats not immediately in their vicinity, but the leap is not required to do so. All the leap currently does is make the player unable to properly defend themself if they decide they need to dodge. In pvp however it has full usefullness.
So your options are to use the great sword which has a more functional auto attack for pve (with lower dps ofc) or just make due with the sword as is.
Pretty sure Lightbringer is a title you get from Hall of Monuments rewards.
No its not
I know what you mean. If you die at the end of a boss fight in a group you get no reward at all even if you were the only one standing most of the fight. It’s a bit of a broken mechanic as it in no way determines who participated in the fight and who should be rewarded. I have yet to see a situation where a player who was dead did not participate to the point where they should not be rewarded.
Not sure this is a bug though.
I’m not sure if they have any plans to fix this but I hope they do. I completely gave up on trying to micro my pet to stay out of aoe and I never try it anymore vs. kholer. I don’t understand why my pet can’t dodge the simplest moves I learned to dodge on my first time playing against them. I think an easy fix could be having pet recall the pet directly to the player in pve and maybe stay as is in pvp. I just don’t like the idea of having to watch my pet die without much chance to save it.
There are definately some ranger problems this has already been brought up before but the GS skill swoop does less damage than maul even though it says it does more. Also I feel that RaO should state that it only applies to your current pet and if swapped it does not apply.

No need for caps and this has already been discussed the boxes were giving the wrong loot so they had to stop people from opening them until fixed.
Not 100% on if the first four are bugs or not but as far as I can tell they are.
The graveling scavengers in AC can hit from distances that make no sense with their leap attack, its kinda funny and have killed me quite a few times with it. I don’t really need it fixed or anything this is more like a warning : P
The 5th clip the graveling breeder teleports. I don’t think its lag as the scavenger runs back it was just odd though.
Really wish Arena-Net would take some time to answer some of these threads but I do feel like the actual gameplay is more important so it’s fine.
As far as I can tell theres no actual “lore” explaining the changes in krait and aatxes. With the krait it was just a redesign. I can speculate all I want as to why this change might have occured in the history of GW but I’m not really interested in speculation. The devs just decided to krait a new mob but if I wanted to speculate as to what happened from GW1 to GW2 my answer would be the naga are pretending to be krait and we haven’t even seen the real krait yet. Although I would prefer an answer with some basis speculation will do.
As for the aatxe the devs just once again created a new mob not directly the same as the previous but with a similar name. My only gripe with this is I prefer challenge and I kinda prefer seeing mobs keep their difficulty. Reducing the strength by creating a new variation is fine I just prefer the old one. This one doesn’t really cause any problems with history as there was already variations of aatxes just odd that they would choose to create a weaker one instead of using a weak uw melee mob (grasping darkness, wailing lords, smite crawlers) although we’ll probably see more uw in teh futur.
Also I can’t edit for some reason maybe a site update or something but ahhhhh theres a mistake somewhere
That krait thing I just missread what you wrote so thats my mistake.
As for aatxes they could have just put the GW1 version in instead thats my entire point. I’m not ignoring the name change as its not really what matters. It’s just that they could have had the same aatxe but instead just put a weaker version in. Both can be killed solo but only one is a threat (we may see a bladed aatxe in the future). The mob is about as hard to kill as a firefly and the damage is just about as low. They could have just used a grasping darkness instead of making a weaker aatxe as it does not share the qualities that (bladed) aatxes have beyond the look.
This is much the same with krait calling them naga would have made more sense if looking at GW1
I think all that happened was the devs redesigned a lot of the previous monsters which is great as they made it into the game. I just prefer more challenging enemies is all.
@Konig forgot to tell you but krait need to be killed twice even if killed the first time its on the wiki and I remember it from the game.
I made a video to show how much weaker per hit an aatxe is from GW1. In the third clip I forgot how to use the war uw solo build but it shows just how fast they can kill someone as opposed to GW2 where they are pushovers. Also the second clip the aatxe essentially killed me in 1 hit right before it died.
Regarding Aatxes, you’ll note something very important:
GW1 names: Bladed Aatxe
GW2 names: Aaxte, Veteran Lesser Bladed Aatxe (guess which of the two’s stronger? That’s right, the vet – the “lesser” foe)The ones we fought in GW1, those dozens in a single spot, would be like fighting a dozen champions in a single fight. They’re the big daddy of aatxes – like how the Cyberdemon was the big daddy in DOOM games; these other guys are little better than imps or hell barons in comparison. The ones we see in the open world are pushovers and the Lesser Bladed Aatxes that we fight in two personal stories (one for human, one for Priory) are still weaker than the Bladed Aatxes.
So yeah, the Aatxes in GW2 are pushovers compared to the ones in GW1. But that’s because we’re not fighting the same kind of Aatxes.
Aatxes could be soloed in GW1 (pretty easily) they were just much stronger than in GW2 so it doesn’t really make much sense to have to create a weaker mob. You also made me want to go back and play Dhuum 2 (DOOM 2) XD.
This is pure speculation, but perhaps Aatxes are weaker when outside of the Underworld. I have to admit, when I first saw one in game, I was apprehensive to fight him, followed by shock at how easy it was to kill.
As for the Krait, I don’t know how to justify them. I think they were a big miss, simply because they’re so much like the Naga now.
I never thought about the naga but you’re right they’re very similar now also I forgot to mention this but the krait also didn’t used to be as water specific as they are now which also suits the naga better.
Previously in GW1 both of these monsters were more of a force to reckoned with but in GW2 they’re pushovers.
Firstly the krait in GW1 essentially needed to be killed twice: once before they transform and a second time after. However in GW2 not only do they not transform they no longer have any variation and possess little to no magical abilities. Also they now possess intelligence which they might have had before but idk. I think this is just a redesign but I’d still like the krait to transform maybe in a future patch.
Now the aatxe change is just mind boggling. One of the hardest hitting and one of the only invulnerable monsters in the game has now become one of the weakest (also I have no idea what a shade is but maybe it’s a cousin of the grasping darkness or something). I can handle the new look as it looks great but the tremendous loss in damage I just can’t understand. Maybe this change has something to do with Dhuum but we’ll find out.
I do get that in GW2 the player character is supposed to be stronger but this is a little over the top, also Abaddon > zhiatan (not imo : P)
If theres any explanation behind these changes I’d like to know.
A few things: this game isn’t really intended to be played solo and isn’t in the same subgenre as GW1, if you do desire a game that you have the option to play with friends or alone whenever; a fps might be more suited to your friends play style, next the rest of the map you are required to get is most likely in WvW and not dungeons just a heads up. I don’t want to discourage you from playing I just don’t think encouraging solo play is good for an online game especially an mmo.
I’m definately for having something similar but there’s just a lot more features from GW1 I’d like to see added before going straight for something more cosmetic.
NO, this was disc. before and we DON’T Want this! GO play thief or warrior if u want rifle, all we need is to adjust the use of longbow!
Ranger is meant to use bows as main stuff.. idk why u play ranger if u miss gun so badly .. there is engineer, warrior thief and so on play that, i don’t want to ruin original icon of ranger!.
This is exactly how I feel. The ranger already has 3 ranged weapons: axe for multiple enemies, shortbow for close to medium range single target dps and longbow for long range dps. The longbow might need to be refined but altogether the ranger does not need a fourth ranged weapon. They got plenty to work with and don’t need a rifle.
I think it’s a great idea based on one fact, I just want my DSR back : P
Ok the problem is just that mushrooms are fungi and not plants so producing plant fibre makes no sense. I understand that this might have been intentional as it’s not something that would be beneficial to change but I don’t know if A-Net wants us to believe they think that 2 kingdoms are the same. They could just rename all ruined materials the same thing to solve any issues. I’m still not sure how mining ores with inferior tools can ruin it (but thats not really something I feel needs to be fixed).
edit: I’m not really adament about this just a suggestion to the devs. Also yes I know this is more or less a pointless complaint.
Failing to harvest fungi with the correct tool will give the player “ruined plant fibre”. I hope I don’t need to explain why this is incorrect just a little mistake that should be fixed.
Guys stay with me here but I got an idea, lets remove the pve and replace it with codex (I didn’t pvp much in GW1 so I never actually cared). In all seriousness though there are definately some things I miss from GW1 but I don’t really feel the need to compare them I just wish that a-net would have brought over some of the features from GW1 that GW2 would benefit from. The main thing that comes to mind for me is the guild halls and the ability to 1v1 at them was nice. I do think that GW2 is a great game just as GW1 was a great game.
Necro minions isn’t the raising of the dead. It is the making of puppets out of flesh. Not really any different than the way that elementalists can create elementals to fight for them in GW2. There is no soul attached to the minions, they merely work based on the will of their master.
I’m assuming that you’re referring to me here so let me just say I was not speaking figuratively. The dead literally rise whether a soul is attached or not is not what I was referring to.
This isn’t really as relevent since my questions regarding Dhuum were essentrially answered but…
…On the last mission in Prophecies have a necro with minions (I know its raising of the dead) and then beat Rurik when you find him (not putting this as a spoiler cause the game is really old now), the minions will continously hit him why hes lying on the floor in the cutscene. Thats my payback to Grenth for allowing that to slide.
Well I appreciate the response the wiki doesn’t really say any of this from what I’m seeing and I guess it’s still debateble (imo) as to if Grenth is just or not.
“During his reign, Dhuum ruled from his tower in the Underworld as the God of Death, but was viewed as an unjust God who did not tolerate resurrection or the undead.”
That’s what the wiki says regarding Dhuum.
I understand that Dhuum might not have been fully thought out before implemented (as he is just a cool character and boss) but his back story doesn’t make much sense.
Originally it seems that things were as they should where people died and stayed dead and re-animation was not tolerated. Then for some odd reason the gods just felt this was wrong and just let grenth take over.
Then the dead could be brought back to life whenever. This is just odd: firstly why was respawning made into canon, and why is the raising of the dead viewed as a good thing?
This is kinda becoming more philosophical than I intend it to be but it just doesn’t make sense that people would want to be able to kill each other only to have the person they killed just come back and kill them instead. There is also no consitency as only sometimes people can be resurrected and usually only the “good guys” can be brought back. Luckily Rurik wasn’t so lucky or so I thought until the end the prophecies, then I was just thinking Grenth just messed up.
I just can’t see any logical reasoning as to why Dhuum was usurped by Grenth or is thought to be unjust.
A lot of the drops obtained in dungeons are blue or green weapons or armor. Lower level characters might have a use for these but most lvl 80’s have full exotic gear giving two options: to sell this loot, or salvage. The problem is if you are being given loot that you will never use whats the point? Even rare items often end up going down this same path. It would be better to just give the player crafting mats, ectos, and gold instead of any gold, green or blue items just to save time and inventory space.
There was a similar situation in GW1 where in groups players would simply leave lower tier loot on the floor as it was more or less a waste of time.
It would also be nice to have unique dungeon specific drops (possibly legendaries) that don’t depend on tokens such as the BDS from GW1 just to add a little more excitement.
I did Arah story before the patch with myself and 2 others having never done it before. I actually really enjoyed the battle leading up to him and we died a bit getting to zhitan (which is a good thing as challenge is welcome). Then as we fought the dragon itself just severe dissapointment crept into my soul. The boss was the easiest part of the dungeon when presumeably it should be at least somewhere in the middle. I’m not for the end boss being the most difficult but it was disgraceful. Now that I hear it’s easier I have given up on the personal story entirely.
On a side note the end boss of TA exp (all paths) can be inflicted with conditions although an object, I’m just pretty sure they don’t affect it.

The only race other than human and sylvari I’d want to play would be the forgotten, but they are often forgotten so oh well. As for the tengu can’t say much for them as they didn’t really participate much in the gw factions story. The majority of my interaction with them I spent murdering them for feathers. I’d love to see what they do with them in the future just not interested as a playable race. I also prefer the old look.
I’ve been noticing a few typos in traits on my guardian and ranger from time to time really wish they would just have someone check them over.
So awhile back I started a thread showing an exploit with the Queen Spider that allowed me to kill it without it fighting back, the devs quickly informed me that it would be fixed which is great because I’m not a fan of using exploits to kill bosses in groups (Hypocrite), but alone I enjoy finding them. Well anyways the bug is still here.
I’m not mad at the devs or anything I really enjoy the game and I am thankful that they continue to update and fix it.
A really wierd bug just occured I’m not sure if the site was hacked or it’s just an easter egg but while I was previewing this the word kitten just ended up in my sentence.
Call me a kitten idc but what caused that?
(edited by WonderfulCT.6278)
The other side of the argument (people who want it changed) comes from those who actually prefer to dodge when required in order to mitigate damage. You know, the one core mechanic all classes share, and is basically required for surviving high level content/encounters? This includes PvE’ers, and also PvP’ers and WvW’ers. I would say this is most likely the majority of players.
Following these particular threads since the games launch is how I draw my conclusions on this. Also, by talking to my other Ranger friends, and Guildies (btw, none of them will use 1-handed sword purely because of the inability to dodge properly on #1 – other than that, no issues).
There are a few easy ways to fix this.
1. Make the #1 only have a leap in PvP/WvWvW play, and make the cast bars in the chain easily interruptible by either moving or dodging. Seperate the skills for PvE and PvP use. It was done in GW1, it has been done in GW2 for certain skills as well. This ‘fix’ would keep everyone (mostly) happy.
2. Get rid of the leap completely. You are now balanced with other classes as they do not have a zero-opportunity cost constant gap closer with a built in cripple. Learn to track targets and use actual closers like everybody else in the game must.
Until you play a class without that lunge, you don’t know how bloody good it actually is.
I’d be super POed if they removed it from Sword.
I and my Ranger friends and Guildies would like to call your BS on that, sir. I have four level 80s, and most of those guys have several alts as well. None of us have issues manually tracking/chasing/gap closing targets, on any character. And you shouldn’t either, but if you do, it’s a L2Play issue. That ‘lunge’ that you’re so obsessed with can also leap you off of a cliff, or into another mob/zerg that you haven’t yet engaged. Using the sword, you just CANNOT dodge properly – argue all you want, but turning off auto attack does NOT solve this issue as you still cannot dodge while striking/leaping during the #1 (also, you cannot interrupt the cast bars by moving, or even using the #2 or #3 evades). Dodging is an important core mechanic shared by all professions, and even having the dodge roll delayed by .5 seconds or less can easily mean the difference between life and death – and often does.
It should be fixed. One way or another.
I feel like this pretty much sums up my opinion on this and I do appreciate all defenders of the sword but as I have said, in pve it does not work correctly at all. Most often I follow my target quite well and a lunge is useless to me as I’m already in the face of my target making the lunge just an “attack of opportunity” for my oppenent where I can’t dodge their attacks or properly run away.
Disabling auto attack is something that shouldn’t be necessary as it would reduce dps, and I don’t even want the lunge at all. Therefore the damage and cripple is all I really get out of the skill.
Also I’m not against keeping a pvp version of the sword as I said I don’t really pvp so I don’t really have an opinion on its usage there.
The two look exactly the same but if there’s some difference please tell me. I love jellyfish and two is better than one but I don’t really get why they’re labled differently. Trust me I didn’t rename it they actually look like that.
