It is strange. It is almost like different people like different things. It is crazy. Played EQ , wow, aion, rift, swtor, Tera, and I can say GW2 is the first one ive played since my addiction to wow back in the day, I cant stop thinking about it and what I want to do next. got my thief 80 rushing things, now I am casually strolling through on a Guardian.
It has been awhile since a game has launched with 2 different leveling areas so just making an alt doesnt make me want to poke my eyes out because I am doing all the same things over again.
Of course like all things everyone gets burned out sometime, for example WoW was my first true MMO addiction but its done. I just cant go back. Nothing there do i care about or want to see. You can only rush to the new max level and grind gear on alts so many times in the same setting.
Just “did what I wanted” and got thrown off a bridge because my #3 skill (whatever the hell it’s called) shoved me off.
“Learn to play!” you’ll say.
Um… no. That’s not learning to play. That’s learning to deal with the failure of the developers to realize it’s a role playing game. No one, ever, EVER would hurl themselves off a bridge unless they intended to.
So it’s not lack of skill. It’s kitteny design. I should be able to hurl myself off a bridge. But unless I choose to, it shouldn’t happen.
This is reason #4,708 why what was promised wasn’t delivered. Was there ever a “you won’t hurl yourself off of bridges” promise?
Nope.
But if I have to explain why this fundamental and forced game mechanic is kitten broken to you, you deserve the game you got, and I wish you well in it. I just hope you never procreate or vote.
For some reason I cant stop laughing. +1
On a related note, It really honks me off when i get killed in a big ring of fire. I mean what idiot wouldn’t move out of a ring of fire. I mean sure learn to play but I shouldnt be able to die standing in a ring of fire, since no one would stay standing in a ring of fire.
Down with playing the game, up with watching the Guild Wars 2 the Movie! I hope they can get Christpher Walken to play me.
To me targeting is the single most broken part of the game. and it all ties into other problems like pet ai and autoattck features. Making targeting and correctly attcking the right mob a pain.
There are repeatable quest. They are called events. Learn them love them. Find a string of 3 that keep repeating every 3 minutes and go to town. Problem solved.
I actually really like the way it is now. Make it easy and it becomes a pointless mechanic. The way it is now it changes every encounter. and even sometimes location by location in the same encounter.
For example the fire elemental boss in thaumnova reactor. he can one shot alot of people since he drops large rings of fire, and is in a level 16 area. You go downed in his room i will do every thing i can to get you up again. Might make it worse because fiery death might come with me, but ill try. you go downed on the bridge, you are on your own. It is a death trap up there. you die anywhere? Let go and run back.
That is what makes a game fun. That nothing is the same. That i have to learn and try not just stroll over and press a button. And i can even spec into it for a better chance of success. win win.
Remove 1hit mechanics and I’ll consider this game a gem.
I’m talking both pve and pvp. I’m looking at you, backstab thieves critting for near 20k (me included) and stupid bosses that are all like loludeadbromeleesuckswhynoinfinitedodge???
Ive never minded 1 hit mechanics. As long as there is a clear indication that a player can learn that they are coming. Some of the most fun in an mmo can come from wipes and trying to learn stuff. At least to me anyway.
Id like to jump on the band wagon and say GW2 feels like d3 all over again. Well except D3 was a crap game to start with and Gw2 is fun as all get out.
So i cant.
I have noticed that some areas seem to be lacking in the event catagory. Or some areas have them yet they arent on the main road so you have to go find them.
But what ever the case, some areas i cant move without hitting them, some I never even see them.
Did you happen to catch the name of that Thief? Being one I would love to talk to him and see how he is set up. Full on toughness I can go 3-4 at once, depending on the mob. Strong shooters are evil. But 10 would be awesome!
Also even if you are a mob grinder, there are several events I have found or even series of events that spawn almost nonstop. You can easily grind these mobs and events. Heck I hit 2 spawning in a row at level 55 a little while latter i was 61.
So while the traditional grind 900 angry unicorns might not work find some quick spawning events and you can grind away.
Tera. The best combat and Graphics I have seen in an MMO yet. On the downside just about everything else was standard or less.
On the good side GW2 has a ton to do and the combat is just different and fast enough from the normal mmo that i didn’t quit after 5 minutes and go back to Tera.
I guess my thought is the GW2 is alot like WoW was. Nothing they did is grounbreaking or hasnt been done before. But they may be the first to do most of it all at once and get most of it right.
Groundbreaking? No. Fun? Heck yeah.
You may have done this, but dont just relog, shut the game all the way down and open it again. that is the only way i have ever recovered from a messed up trader post.
Because if you look at most of the guild wars skills they do at least 2 things. some of them do 3-4. so your 5 buttons in GW are really between 10-20 skills. SWTOR was really bad about this. Useless skill bloat, with a use so specific you had to have it on your bar but you only used it once ever day.
