Im not sure why people still worry about crap like this. A threat to GW2? The game just had its first major expansion and has had several years to build its core customer base. I dont know why you would still be worried about the next game being a threat Unless you really had a low opinion of GW2. Or you think that there are so few people still playing GW2 that the inevitable that do go will cripple GW2.

The changes look interesting. Couple worries though. I’m afraid some of these changes will make the game even blobbier if possible. Some people won’t even come out if there is a chance they might die. Some servers are already bunkerish, they will go full bunker until thier blob blocks out the sun. Not very exciting.

And like others I am worried about some of the other over powered abilities that have been introduced. Unless they are adjusted expect some real crying over the ppk.

I think they will. I want to say i remember someone saying the plan was always to take alpine out and redo it some then bring it back. Using the two maps and rotating them.

I suppose the down side to that is what do they plan on changing? Alpine laser event anyone? Maybe i dreamed the whole thing anyway, so it wont matter.

Run Speed

It also opens a huge door for trolls and fake call outs. And even playing it straight, i take my zerg off eb and chill for 5 minutes. Eb should be fairly safe in this time since the other servers will still be poking around looking for me. I then go straight to their garrison. The other server now has a choice. Move to the bl and be locked out of eb, knowing i can take my zerg right back there and take whatever i want while they are locked, or come defend garrison. Or maybe even split thier forces knowing if my zerg is big enough and they cant slow down the garrison assult i still might be able to take garrison and get back to eb before half of thier zerg can get back there.

I guess to me it is an interesting idea, but just to many ways to game the system. And take something that is easy and straight forward and make it an annoying clock watching game.

Cheat. Do all the ones you can. Then use the random HPs awarded from proof of heroics when you level up in wvw. Might not be the fastest, but more then likely 2 wvw levels and you will be able to buy a Random hp from HoT. So the more you have done the more likely you are to get randomly awarded the one/two/few you can’t get done.

Im not sure how you would do that. With free accounts people could vote as much as they wanted. and if you limited to only people who spent money or had HoT your results are skewed. Also you might want to include people who have played the game, since maybe you want them to come back.

They added it so people could level their elite specs on their characters through WvW…. and yet your complaining about classes that you won’t take through WvW…..

Why should you be able to get your elite spec for one class, by playing another class. I didn’t get to level my Daredevil Elite spec by PvEing with my elem…….
As far as forcing you into the HoT maps? No one is forcing you to make another character and leveling their elite spec.

(Masteries are NOT Elite specs, them being account bound does not relate to Elite Specs)

That is a valud point. But let me ask you this. Once you get your first round of hero points is your next round faster or slower? Faster. Because you know where they are and you have leveled the masteries needed to get them. Your third is faster yet. Each time they actually propably get a little faster if you try.

We are slower to start. And stay that way. If not actually slow down as the person pointed out we will be running alts outside our normal group comps, which slows down the xp. For example last night i started working on my third elite spec. After 3 hours had 35 hero points. There were people claiming that after the hero point nerf needed for elite specs you could get your entire elite spec unlocked in a couple hours if you knew where the hps were. Unless of course you wvw then after a couple hours you are ready to unlock the ability to use the weapon.

So while yes you have to do it on each character, we have to spend a much longer time doing it.

So let me get this straight, your complaining that the terrain in the new borderland maps is too much “PvE” because it’s harder to get around, and to get where you want to go? Also, your other complaint is about a boss, do you mean the LORD? I’m happy they made it harder, now it takes real tactics and knowledge to get around, and do well, unlike before where, it was just one big loop, and made it significantly easier for the ol’ Karma-choo-choo to get around.

i think u miss the point. the lord does not need to act like a pve dungeon boss as wvw is a game mode where the players are supposed to defend and not a raid boss that takes long to kill. most of us actually loved the fights in the lordsroom. those fights sometimes went on for hours and u know what that actually needed tactics…running in, timing banners, zergbusting , kiting, rushing, pushing and all that was great fun. killing a lord for 2-5 minutes that hits really hard is getting in the way of lordroom fights as it is all about his skills…
the terrain is a pain as it actually promotes zerging way more than before. also if u die u will not run back. who wants to run for 3 minutes to go back to a fight?
this map destroys zergbusting guilds as yes we do wipe, but with the old simple terrain at least we could run back and face that mapblob and didnt have to run for hours . if u miss the zergtrain u will have to wait or try to catch up which is annoying and always annoyed me about eotm.

op has played 200 hours in wvw and thinks wvw is too much pve. i have played around 3500 hours in wvw and yes its too much pve and the whole gamemode was made way less tactical and completely dumbed down with the hot changes and the new map as much as i tried to like them and wanted to make them work. they dont work at all for me and thats it. im done…other games that are more fun are out there atm. ill check back occasionally to see if something changed but for now im done

If it takes your zerg 30s to burn down the lord when exactly does the defenders get a chance to defend?

I thought that was the whole point of making towers/keeps bigger with more defense? Or was that not enough? Perhaps we should speed up the auto upgrade if people cant defend still. Oh heck lets just start them at T3.

Your question is really, if the lord goes down so fast how do we defend? Oh i dont know maybe scouts and respond before they get to the lord?

Come on now it is all the people who love the new map that tell us how fast and easy it is to get around on once you take the time to learn. I guess They have been lying to us all.

Hmm if hte pulse actually STOPS after hitting 5 targets. Theres alot of things that can fill that target cap. Random ranger pets. Frontliners. etc.

I feel like this might actually affect things more than youd think. If the frontline actually does STOP the ruin from happening in its first pulse or two. THen theres nothing left to hit the backline. Meaning frontline can actually weaken the revenants damage. Massively so. Simply be being there to take weaker hits.

One of the reasons it was so strong was that it completely bypassed the tanky frontline whos jobs were to take damage for the backline. So the backline got hit by it anyway. Now revenants will have to swing widely around the frontline to hit the back of zergs. Making them fairly easy targets for things like rangers,mesmers,dd eles, thieves (One staff DD can kitten a revenant up pretty fast or atleast force him to swap to shield.)

Incoming squad of revenants jumping through/over front line to 2 spam back line!

I know it wont happen, I just got a giggle because you said they would have to swing widely around the front line, and i instantly thought of 3 skills they could use to not have to do that.

But your point still stands. spamming 2 from the back of your zerg in realative saftey is a whole different monster then spamming 2 from the middle of thier zerg.

ElonaReach [DE] : EBG Cue from ~7-11pm Border Cue from ~8-10pm on 1-2 Borders (This is only in The week, Friday excluded). The Guilds are the ones filling the Borders. But Mid-Event and Roaming groups attract more and more players on to the new maps. Id say its worse then pre-patch right now, but its gotten better and better again. Ppl have understood that there is alot to do/fight on the borders.
All those haters, especially in NA should feel responsible for the impression many people got without even beeing on the map once.

Exactly. I should feel bad for not liking something. And I should feel twice as bad for telling someone else I didn’t like something.

New WvW borderlands too much pve.

I see some of you are die hard happy about the new changes. Yet somehow I don’t think you run with a guild of any size nor have spent much time in wvw. Last night the queue for EB was like 60 and I visited the borderlands couldn’t find any people or tags so I had to go back to ESO. Because although ESO has a really bad lag problem they do not have any population issues that this game has. I’m kinda stuck because ESO’s lag sometimes makes that game unplayable and the messed up borderlands are making this game sometimes unplayable. So say what you want but facts are facts. The borderlands are empty and EB is full.

Dunno what tier you’re in but I’m constantly fighting zergs on my BL in prime hours and havoc groups in off hours. I can’t remember the last time it was empty…had to have been weeks ago.

Some people complain, some like them, but in the end they still come.

I guess I would ask what tier You are on as well. I’m in tier 2 on FA. Let me give you two examples of our prime time adventures in different BLs. One night we spent 2 hours flipping everything in our bl, and about 75% of an enemy bl. You know how many players we saw? Once we saw about 10 show up to do the laser event. So 2 hours one group of 10.

On the second night we flipped around 50 percent of our bl and then in the hopes of drawing people out we map hoped taking the 3 keeps on each of the other BLs, some of them more then once. Since the servers would simply wait for us to leave then cap thier stuff again. In those 2 hours we saw one group of 20ish try to defend fire keep, once. And from time to time we would run to defend our bl keeps hoping for a fight to find 2 people on a gate with a ram. So 2 hours one group in of 20ish.

Right now in my experiences, except for reset night, the BLs are for people who want to karma train. They get a little Zerg together and karma train away. Dodging fights and Killing doors where they can. Which is usually everything, since no one is there.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. If whatever guild/commander was leading on EB had instead tagged up on one of the bl’s, the queue would be for that map instead.

The guild/commanders leading EB don’t like the BLs either. So I’m not sure what your point is.

Idea: Overpopulation Debuff

When more then 25 players from the same server are within range of each other then one of them gains the ticking bomb debuff. The debuff makes the person explode in 3 seconds. When one person explodes this way the buff is passed to another player on the server until the number of players in range is under 25.

WvW Guild Upgrades are hidden behind PVE – Not Fixed since HoT
Walls skin glitching – Not Fixed since a month ago

WvW Guild Claiming Auras – Only got fixed 2 weeks ago.
WvW Dailies – Only got fixed 3weeks ago.
—i cant think of anything else they “fixed”, lol—

Nope you don’t have to say that. Nor do you have to trot out trite words like lazy to express your dissatisfaction which is a lazy way to complain, and an offensive one.

Anet can’t be lazy, because Anet isn’t a person. Anet is a company comprised of people. It is extremely likely that a percentage of employees of any company are in fact lazy, but the company itself can’t be lazy unless you’re personifying it. Whether you’re a developer, a customer or a norse god is not really relevant to the conversation.

You chose to use a word some would consider to be an insult and directed it at a group of 300 people. So unless every single one of those people is lazy, you’re doing a disservice to them, and you’re potentially being offensive.

If I were working really hard on something and someone called me lazy, yes, I’d take offense. Last I’ll say on the subject since to anyone reading it, this was obvious a while ago. Only someone deliberately ignoring what I’m saying would keep going and what I’m saying is factual. You can’t call a company lazy, without impugning everyone in the company.

First of all, be honest with yourself. I’m pretty sure you were not running around at release (when reviews were glowing) saying how we can’t praise Anet, because it’s not a person. There still could have been one slacking programmer, you know

Secondly, companies have personalities, in fact, they’re juridical persons. Companies are not the people working for them. For example, 2 of 3 Anet founders have left the company, does it meen Anet is no longer Anet? No. It’s still the same company, even though it changed over the years (people change too, right?). Companies could be good, evil, corrupt and yes, lazy. Its personality is represented by:
1) the people working there. It’s usually the senior officers, but there’re a lot of exceptions. In Anet case, that would be every red post we see on forums. Yes, there’s a living human being with the name who says something on those forums, but in the end, we remember that it was the Anet, who said that thing. Anet can’t go behind that persons back and say: “Dont look at me, it was he who said you that the fractal rewards will be fixed” (yeah, I know it’s still December).

It’s offensive to call people lazy if you don’t know how hard the work and doing so only makes your argument weak. Surely you can complain without inventing stuff.

As for getting your money’s worth, you’re absolutely entitled to that opinion. I have no problem with you feeling that.

But using the word lazy? I can have no respect for that argument.

if you can’t even beat an NPC boss with 10 people, what makes you think you can beat enemy players?

The keep champs are no longer complete pushovers like they used to be, which is good. But at the same time they can still be taken down by a duo like the other guy mentioned.

Every single complaint I’ve seen so far about too much PvE and not enough PvP actually boils down to “I can’t ktrain objectives anymore cos it takes too long to break down a wall and too long to kill a boss”. If you actually want enemy players to come and fight you, you need to give them time to notice that you’re there, champ bosses taking longer to kill help that goal.

Then i guess ill give you one. I shouldnt have to watch for blinking statues while trying to fight on a bridge. I shouldnt have to watch a whole zerg jump to safety by simply jumping off a cliff. Those are the pve things that annoy me. They have nothing to do with ktraining.

Nah they havent dropped the idea of home BLs. They are just doing what everyone asked in the normal twisted Anet way. They are getting the Desert BL ready so they can replace EB with it. And then bring back the Alpine maps. And then they will be all, ’ we did what you asked! You said you wanted alpine back!’

And how is the “world versus world” there?

When i left it was a trainwreck. Now i did leave before the imperial city update so maybe it is better? But the lag in that game was horrible. People talk about skill lag and stuff here, but in eso your game could turn into a slide show.

I actually had this experience several times, oh there is a group of enemys coming my way better move. Game slows down. Enemies still in front of me. I die. Enemies blink to some distance behind me. Then add in just taking a tower could drag your fps down to 2-4. It was horrible.

I actually told my GF when we came back, i remeber complaining about the lag here im GW2 but they either fixed it or I had no idea how good it actually was herr.

You say it’s just the way industry works and I agree. But you accept that questionable practice, while I close my pocket.
I never said that the game is not fun anymore. What I’m saying is, that I expected more from this company, but that’s probably just the hype talking, right?

They’re producing more than just content. They’ve changed the way the game is moving forward, whether you like that or not.

They’ve added systems, more than I’ve seen in an expansion. Masteries, specializations, combat mode, gliding and all that entails, in fact, the entire game has basically been rebooted and there’s content.

There was new technology created just for revenant skills, Maybe you think that doesn’t take man hours but it does.

By creating this stuff now, moving forward, future expansions should be larger. Anyway you should probably not use words like lazy when you have no idea how hard anyone is working. It’s not only inflammatory but it’s probably not true.

Even if it were true for a small percentage of devs, there are 300 people working at Anet. Are you suggesting they’re all lazy?

Calling people lazy is a lazy thought process.

Of course it is always the next expansion that will be bigger and better. Unless of course it isnt. Then im sure it will probably be more ‘systems’ that were added for yet again the next expansion.

The State of Friday Night WvW

I must admit it hasnt been as bad as i initially thought it would be. But having said that friday while not dead, still is NOTwhat it was. And Saturday while busy is still about the same as it was before. So we ended up with less activity of friday and about the same as it was on Saturday already. At best slightly more on Saturday.

I am basing this on T3 as i just moved recently.

Why did we do it? Because it was how we wanted to have fun that reset night. And we did. It was a blast. It made the borderlands feel like the did before HoT. It was totally awesome. Great fights, great fun.

I don’t think anyone has a problem with fun. But honestly it doesn’t bother you a little? The time and gold put in, by your own quote, to make the borderlands feel like they did before HoT. Not time and effort gold spent to make it better, no. You did all that just to get back to the norm. I still play I still have fun. But in the back of my head it always bothers me when I think about it.

So, one guild spent all that money to claim something and put something on it. How long did it last until flipped?
How long until enemy realises something has tactics bought on it, and ensure it flips during the huge hours of deadness that exist on most BLs?
How much does it cost to a. get the guild to that level and b. each time you use it, compared to how much you ‘make’ in wvw standing around defending the object.
Unless you can make more from defending than it costs to upgrade in this way, it’s unsustainable longer term.(ie, another gimmick).

Maybe it’s time to rename the game Gate Wars 2, as everything in the new release seems to come with at least one form of gate + money sink.

I think they decided that the cost on server transfers wasn’t making them enough money. Or perhaps that when they do go to this guild alliance idea that they needed another source of income.

Every yak counts. Every camp counts. Every supply counts.

Every Roamer counts.

Until of course around 02:00-03:00 when nothing matter anymore and the smart servers go from ~200 in tick to ~600 tick within the span of an hour and getting a 20-30K or so headstart the next morning.

I don’t understand the players who play on those servers ticking 600+, when there’s literally nothing to do but drop siege, press 1 (or 2 if you use catas/trebs) and collect awful loot at a rate of less than 10% of what a PvE player gets.

Im not really sure you are suppose to bring up rewards in a WvW thread. If max rewards was all we were after we wouldnt be in wvw at all.

And we certainly wouldnt be in a thread, about how spending hundreds of gold you can never recover in your game mode. Just to make your game mode about as much fun as it was before the update, is a cool idea.

As others have said HoT just isnt worth the 50 bucks. It is hard not to feel ripped off after paying that.

But when it drops to19.99 id be all in! Or maybe even 29.99 if you like pve some.

also t3 still has plenty of people in it durning my normal play time, NA prime time.

Best class for solo'ing HoT content

So far ive had the most success with a Condition Herald and a Scrapper.

Although if you are still unlocking herald you will be missing some condition damage, with mace/axe you can come close to spamming mace2 and it stacks enough burn to put most normal mobs down very fast. And with the exented range you dont have to be standing on the mobs. So you can stack conditions then just stay out of the way until you do it again. And of course since all you need is condition damamge you can stack what ever other stats you want to help you survive.

The Scrapper is just fun because it feels like whatever comes up you have something for it.

Although i havent tried my ranger out there yet and my necro isnt a minion master, but what people say about them being really good make a whole lot of sense.

FA's keeps say contested but are not

I think it’s funny that Anet essentially said “we fixed a waypoint/repel event ‘bug’ that has been paramount in WvW keep battles for the last 3+ years.” Makes me wonder if they truly weren’t aware of this behavior this entire time until recently or if this behavior was just now decidedly labeled a bug that needed “fixing” rather than simply announcing a change being made in how it worked.

Tonight I got the most glorious bag farm from the waypoint at FABL east keep being bugged which allowed TC to respawn again and again and again even though it was contested.

And you’re welcome for the bags. We debated letting FA have the keep because we clearly weren’t gonna hold it for long once TLC joined the fray, even with the WP bug; but figured what the heck, let’s repair our gear a few times throughout the ruckus. :P

It certainly proved that allowing players to waypoint in during contest events encourages fighting

Before reset night i would have said this is a horrible bug that needed fixxed. But after and hour and a half of almost nonstop fighting trying to defend our garrison it is fantastic!

I suppose for people trying to ninja stuff it sucks. And id imagine if the keeps were smaller it would stink. But as big as they are you can be fighting all over the place. Easily the most fun ive had on a BL since the change.

What annoys me most is they didn’t fix the guards/mobs that still contest some keeps near constantly first. Just lazy and stupid.

They could respond to population increase and decrease by simple opening a new campaign or closing them as they finished. They had campaigns of different legnths some 7 days some 30.

What happens when the maps filled up? They opened a new campaign right? People couldn’t get into the existing campaigns they had to join one of the open or new ones.

There are campaign queues. When a campaign reached a certain point it did close though and you could enter another campaign as part of your faction so you were still fighting for your faction. Plus they have a guesting system so if your home campaign is queued you could guest to another campaign.

Yes, but you couldn’t get in the same map as friends who’d started the other campaign.

That’s my point.

It’s random and will frustrate a ton of players if they don’t get their “spot” at first go.

And the leftovers will be a mish-mash of pugs and small guilds who will give up after a couple days in and leave empty maps.

As random as picking a server when you create, even when you have no idea what it means?

Yes, but on a weekly basis.

There’s no way you can develop a team like that.

But you don’t actually get kicked out of a campaign each week. You have to make the choice to move. So you could build a team.

The only meaningful use server has is WvW. If you arent interested in that it will not affect you at all. Servers basically dont exsist out side of wvw.

To be fair to the poor fella EotM use to be the karma train place. But people would rather go there now while waiting in a queue then to one of the borderlands. So i doubt it will get better soon. Atleast in EotM another player has to be there to throw me off a walk way.
