It must be amazing that I did about 20-30 runs as a staff camping signet guardian that never uses virtues and I have never been kicked or even been told that my build or playstyle is bad. Hell, I would go back in time and kick myself if that is possible.

have i played with you b4?? ive had one or two runs before with a guardian in arah and in cof where the guard literally used staff the whole time even at slave driver.

lol no that was before I ever did arah or cof, I think I stopped camping staff at around later November or December last year.

I think this thread actually gave me cancer.

No 1 shot mechanics in CoE? I sincerely doubt a bunker build could tank Alpha’s AoEs. And Suddenflame’s build being better than Berserker? Sure, go solo Lupi and beat the current record time. Why am I even trying to make sense of this dribble, I see why Cookie bailed.

a guardian in a mix of clerics/pvt can facetank alpha aoe easy

dmg meters

I feel the need to restate my concern about a damage meter, in relation to the arguement: “elitists already exist”. My concern is the ratio of elitist to casuals. Lets say the game community is 90% casual, 10% elitist. Many casuals don’t know what is truely optimal in the game, and since it’s difficult to prove what is optimal definitively, they consign them themselves to the fact that it doesn’t matter in the long run. However, it is in our basic human nature to persue what we believe is the “best”, which is why min/maxers and elitists exist. With a damage meter, we could have a better view of the best dps setup in the game, but this knowledge could promote a desire for casual layman to persue this “best”. This mentality converts what currently would be a casual player, into an elitist, demanding only the best.

I don’t get it. Trying to improve or seek something better doesn’t mean someone’s not casual.

This relies on a faulty assumption that casuals would like to remain ignorant, and elitists are going to use these statistics to min-max everything. But this just represents a false dichotomy. A lot of people wouldn’t say no to something that allows them to get what they want. At the same time, a lot of so-called “elitists” meaning the type that actively excludes and kicks people often don’t care about reasoning and numbers but rather just conforms to the fotm mentality that something is objectively the best without figuring out why… in reality they already made up their minds already.

My point is these so-called min-maxers are also the ones that frequently edit wiki pages so that people such as myself that are too lazy to figure it out on my own can know too. This is just really the same thing. What you view as toxic elitists is not the same as the people that actively explore the mechanics of the game, and it’s honestly quite insulting to them.

My problem isn’t the min/maxer who do legwork or want to improve themselves.
My problem is the players who disallow other players from joining parties.
I want players to be allowed to run what they like without being forced to conform to one specific build.
My concern is with a damage meter, players will find the highest dps build, and it will invalidate any build other then it in the eyes of the masses. All who don’t play that build will not be allowed into most parties; which I might add would halt experimentation.
I want players to be free to play as they choose, not be forced to run fotm. I realize this already happens to some degree, and I don’t want this attitude to permeate the entire player base.

But you wouldn’t want to run with those type of players anyway, would you?
The people who want highest dps pugs will ask you to ping gear or even tell them your build. They don’t need a damage meter.

I wouldn’t run with them, I just don’t want the chances of running into such a group to be any greater then it is now. I prefer them being a minority so most people don’t have to run into them on a regular basis, to not have to spend hours looking for a party, just because they aren’t running certain build.

why would damage meter create more of these players? would a PVT hammer tank warrior suddenly change to a axe/sword berserker warrior when a damage meter is implemented?

If your’e not doing speed clears . Over and over I see players saying in every class forum and at every junction that they got kicked for not wearing full zerkers. Here is what I do not get in a full year of player. I have yet to actually encounter this in game. Maybe it is because I never join speed clears? Maybe it because I usually start the party myself? Maybe it is because the number of elitist kittens previously reported has been heavily exaggerated? I honestly do not know.

What I do know is if you join a speed clear and get kicked for wearing XYZ Armor that isn’t berzekers do you really have a right to complain? The majority of runs are runs by casuals for casuals. It really is that simple. Most runs do not require anything except doing some damage and not messing up mechanics. It is not crazy.

Among the kitten people do including kicking people from runs to invite friends during the run. Kicking people from runs to sell a path. Trolling by starting a run and then leaving mid way. I think asking that you know content and wear specific gear for a specific run is fine. You can start your own party or just join one that isn’t so demanding.

I have an idea. I’ve been playing since BETA and never was interested in dungeon master until recently which resulted me in going through all paths of dungeons I’ve never run. I’ve come across it the whole time, but not so much as LFG for Arah. The dungeon is probably the most difficult and has resulted in the players who have learned it to shun new guys. Most posts in Arah LFG consist of “no noobs” and “exp only.” So I decided to form a group of all noobs and watch a YouTube video of a group doing Arah P1 and lead my group based on the vid. After an hour, we managed to get past the Ancient Ooze and have struggled for the past 15-20 minutes trying to get everyone up to the Crystaline Entities. Growing frustrated, I came up with an idea…

How about Anet add some incentives for the many elitist veterans players to be less unwelcoming of inexperienced players. Something such as upon completing a dungeon with another player’s character(s) who’ve never completed the path, they get some bonus loot or money. There can be a multiplier of sorts where the more first timers, the more you get for helping.

I think some variation of this may be a great idea to change the kittenbaggery into camaraderie and provide less of a deterrent to the inexperienced who are intimidated by the excessively difficult dungeons. It would also get more people engaged in more of the content Anet has to offer and ultimately keep people playing.

I’ve added a screenshot of the very first result I saw when hopping back into LFG.

uhhh, correct me if I am wrong, if they can be convinced to help they wouldn’t be elitists would they? o_O

What about boon duration runes? Sure, it depends on your build, but on something like Elementalist with Sigil of Battle, it can effectively give you extra stacks might (3 in case of Battle example) which adds to your Power and Condition Damage (105 to each in example). Add to the the extra Fury/Protection/Regen/etc and I think it could actually compete with Rubies and Scholar.

with LH eles blasting firefields in their auto chain, permanent 25 stacks of might and constant fury is possible, so boon duration rune…. doesn’t do much

Shield:

Torch:

Magic is different from physical stuff. It’s easy enough to make a spell to heal those who say are not hostile to you…because you make hostility the trigger to not heal that person. By the same token, it’s hard to make an ax or greatsword sympathetic to other people.

By the same token every time i go out into san francsico with my berserker armor and a greatsword axe mace build i always end up hitting and killing a friend kind of sad but if its in real life it should be in gw2

I thought you did that intentionally

Looking for more, VOA. 5k GearScore, link achievement! No more hunters

Of all of you, only this guy put it in simple. A direct WoW quote to show the rotten dmg meter discrimination.

In my WoW time:
“LFM BWL, after hall 3 low dps kicked”

GW2 in future:
“LFM ping gear, pre boss fights lowest dmg kicked from group”

Bad already with:
“LFM 48 55ar guards only!!!!!11111”

Scr3w damage meters.

Exactly. Absolutely, under no circumstances would I support damage meters or anything else that fuels the elitism, min\maxing, and speed farming mentality.

people can already ask you to ping gear and kick if you are not full berserker, but how many times has that happened? I know I personally have never been asked.
Besides, idiots can find any bs reason to kick you, they don’t need no damage meter.

Actually I think Terry Goodkind wrote a book on that.. I think it is called faith of the fallen.

Kicking from Dungeons

Wukunlin.8461

This dungeon kicking need to be fixed. I don’t kick people mid dungeon unless that guy can’t be back in 10 minute. But Today ran with Pug group that some of them happen to be in same guild. Saw one of them running bad build but I don’t really mind though.
Untill group got to spider midboss in TA. which experienced people would know that spider got only 2 attack pattern. Then one of them said that I didn’t run reflect in utiliy. So I reply that he should use dodge more.

Then at last tree boss when boss got 5% left I got lighting fast kicked.after saying that i only run for daily and don’t want to continue with group.

But there a twist that the other guy(dungeon starter) who not in that guild do the justice for me. He whispered that he kicked those guild group on the run when boss near dead as well.

I really hope that you still got those conversation in your log after being kicked out of instance so that you can report them properly.

I got a kick out of this story
