I’ve gotten 4 dye drops within the last two days of playing. Didn’t even notice they were in my bags until I saw this post and checked lol!
So lets count!
Good:
1. New map for Paid tournaments (doesn’t matter for 99% players)
2. New achievement system with new rewards
3. Guesting
4. “Other improvements” (they better be good!)
5. Quaggan Backpack (if you Anet want to hold players using gemstore items…good luck & have fun)Bad:
1. Ascended gear
2. Guesting (for many players it’s a very bad feature, as it kills free transfers)
3. No fix for dying sPvP
4. No fix for empty zones (mostly mid-lvl ones)The Quaggan Backpack seems to make the update be more good than bad one.
For me, the new map is not comparable to ascaended gear, but i counted them on same level.
Lets REcount!
1. Ascended gear gives some of us something to work towards. While it technically can be seen as contradicting to the anti-grind statements ANet has made, it’s still something that is needed eventually in MMOs. Plus, ANet is good at making dungeons more challenging than a mindless grind.
2. Guesting is actually one of my favorite updates. You can guest into 2 different servers and it resets every day if you want to guest in another. It’s not ANet’s fault if you jumped the gun and picked a server that you don’t have friends in or didn’t research the peak times in. Besides that, its not hard to log into a guesting server. It’s really easy.
The GW2 engine in general has me excited. It’s so malleable that they can easily revamp entire boss fights and even change core mechanics. Personally I hate static boss fights like the Zhaitan fight. I hope ANet learned from the feedback that while the premise of the last boss battle was cool… shooting at him with cannons wasn’t very epic.
The Dirty Dozen:
1) Would you prefer ascended gear to be the last tier implemented for the remainder of GW2?
2) Would you prefer ascended gear to be equal to exotic gear in all statistics except agony resistance?
3) Would you prefer the level cap to remain at 80 for the remainder of GW2?
4) Would you prefer if WvW was set up on an equal playing field similar to PvP?
5) Would you prefer if WvW / PvP / PvE had separate skill functionalities?
6) Would you prefer if Magic Find was removed from the game completely?
7) Would you prefer if Magic Find was divided equally amongst all party members?
8) Is GW2 too ‘Grindy?’
9) Does GW2 need less RNG?
10) Has the Trading Post [and all its users/farmers] positively impacted the economy?
11) Do you have as much faith [and/or enthusiasm] about the game [and/or company] as you did before launch?
12) Do you reasonably expect [many of] your primary concerns to be addressed in early 2013?
1) No
2) Yes
3) No
4) No
5) Yes
6) No
7) Yes
8) No
9) No
10) Yes
11) Yes, even more so.
12) Yes
Good day.
Servers have their Prime Time hours. Research a server that has players on at the same time you are on. It’ll be easier once the guesting feature is put into effect.
you do know were going to get a thing that outlines there plans and tells us about priojects there working on this week right?
that said go do somthing ells Nothing is makeing you play GW2 ALL THE TIME. I for one play less because i have RL friends that dont play and some time’s i want to hang with them, there’s also a few single player games i like to play ((its often this or skyrim for me :P ))
A resounding AMEN! These kinda posts are getting old.
They mentioned that Charm, Ferocity, and Dignity were going to have meaning in the game later on. Maybe personal choices in the story will too.
Probably belongs in the “suggestions” thread.
GW1 vet here. I for one am glad this game is so drastically different than the first. While GW1 was great for its time, it was way out-dated in mechanics.
WvW should Never had been made a part of world completion.. thats a fact.. end of story..
So.. be constructive or go try to increase your post count some other way.. ty
That’s a painful looking double standard you got there. After looking through many posts in this thread, it seems you’ve made up your mind. So why ask people to be constructive (which implies giving their opinions as well) when your opinion is actually “fact” (as stated by you)?

Make a support ticket. The forums shouldn’t be your first try at speaking with tech support. I think you jumped the gun without first trying your options. I’d cancel the windows 64 bit order and make a support ticket first.
And yet, people CAN specialise into healing their teammates. It is just not ALL that they can do.
I’ve noticed that your heals aren’t worth much if the person you’re healing doesn’t know how to back off, dodge, or pop their own evades/heals when they’re suppose to. I love that about this game. It takes teamwork for alot of things. Even healing and being healed.
It’s a well known fact that GW2’s PVE is horrible.
False. Its your opinion.
I would even though I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that ANet are including the expansions for free….
If its telling you that theres a fatal disk error or corrupted files try running CHKDSK. It worked for me. The way you do it is right click on your C drive, click properties, go to Tools tab, and it should be the first tool. Once you click “run” it will ask if you want to have it repair corrupted files or sectors. There’s also another option that I can’t remember. Just check-box that first option and hit “Ok” then restart your computer. It may take a long time though so only do this when you dont need the computer for anything.
Personally, my scan froze when it started trying to replace and repair corrupted GW2 files but when I restarted my computer again (while the scan was frozen) it seemed to have worked and I haven’t had a crash since then.
Hope this helps. If my instructions didn’t help you get to the CHKDSK command then try googling how to get there.
It’s not just you. Was happening to me as well. Even weirder was that two of my characters that were in Black Citadel were bugged to where every time I tried logging in to them my game would freeze forcing me to force close GW2. And now I’m trying to re-install and the client crashes as the Launcher tries to patch the game. Its getting frustrating. I’ve done nothing different on my end.
Crash On Character Login Within Black Citadel

I also would like to add that my other toons (that aren’t in the Black Citadel) make the game crash randomly. I recently tried promoting a friend to “officer” in my guild and as soon as I clicked “Officer” my game crashed. Something is really really wrong with this client. I see I’m not the only one having problems either. Hope I get a reply.
Crash On Character Login Within Black Citadel

I parked two of my 3 characters in the Black Citadel last night only to find that my game freezes and crashes if I attempt to login to either of them. I can log into my third character just fine though. Black Citadel is some sort of black hole lol. Thanks in advance!
4 years vet here. I’m absolutely loving GW2. I haven’t had any real gripe with the game yet and I’ve had it since headstart. Sure GW1 was great in its own right but this has a “2” in it for a reason. It’s a new game with the same lore.
I have sources just like others and also see/play the game + what people in the industry are saying.
Dont forget that the server status has nothing to do with how many are playing or active. It is just the amount of accounts tied to that server. CC eva said that in one of her posts.Lankybrit:Most do release #‘s
Honestly if they were doing fantastic pop #’s would be front and center. All major MMO’s release pop #‘s although usually vague to a degree they are released.
Rift,Eve,Tor,Wow,LOTRO all release pop #’s.
Still wondering what your sources are… would be nice.
Huh…
So all that karma for nothing?
Basically if i like it, i can just copy something elses stats onto the look of the armor with an item that does that? I have like 10 of those i think.
I can preview them in Heart of Mists then? Cool, i’ll go there and see how they look.
They do seem kinda pricey, way too much karma, and karma is hard to come by. I’ve been doing daily quests as much as i can and i have about 20k karma now. But tier 3 weapons and armor… Man, where do i get so much karma? Sure, they’re lvl 80, but still…
Thanks for the info!
Just to add- Cultural Armour cost gold while the Weapons cost Karma- you can find the vendors in your racial main city. Cultural Armour is only usable by the race, while Weapons are usable by everyone I think
Thanks for the clarification!

All the cultural armor I’ve seen doesn’t cost karma, but gold or silver… I’m confused… If I could spend Karma instead that’d be great.
When a company doesn’t release any stats of their customer population, I’m sure its a great sign.
Its only been a few months. You can’t take it as a sign lol. I’d rather see the data of a full year in an MMO’s lifespan than a few months.
12 Medium, 6 High, 9 Very High at the moment in Europe 14:45 GMT, It’s not what I’d call prime time though.
US has 3 Medium, 3 High and 18 Very High atm
Holy smokes
So many medium servers. is the game dying or has the capacity increased?
According to earlier posts, the capacity has definitely increased. Where you from? I’m in NA and about half of the servers are High to Very High for me. Not very many Medium ones.
They already let you buy the BIS weapons legendaries from the TP. Just buy gems and ->gold.
They will always be bumped to best in slot with new tiers so that is a huge advantage. You can buy this at level 1 if you want.
Everything can be bought in this game already with real money.
All they need to do now is make it so legendaries in the gem shop have better stats and purchased with real money only. You deserve a bonus if you support Anet outside the box price and better stats is a nice way to do it.And how does that make you stronger than some one who didn’t pay money?
The term “pay 2 win” refers to the fact that you pay money to become stronger by getting gear or stats than some one who doesn’t. Which you can’t do in GW2.
So thus, not pay 2 win.

Can you even use legendaries at early levels though? Do they scale with your level? They’re pretty pricey on the TP if you think about it. The gems to gold conversion is such a SMALL payoff too. Not sure I’ve met anyone on forums or online who literally shelled out cash from their own wallets to get a legendary from the TP. Help from a Guild is another story though.
No. Legendaries are level 80. And see my points above why it’s not an argument at all, actually.
Thought so lol! I actually meant to put “Best argument… if its true”. =P
Uhm, you cant level to 80 in 4 hrs. Assuming youare talking about being bumped ip to 80 for wvw, this is practical as they want people on some what level playing field…and adhere to the “level the way you want”.
Buying gold via the game wont get you kto 80. Explain this please.
It can with maxing multiple crafting proffestions .
The most I’ve ever seen going is about 12 levels.
You get 10 levels for taking a crafting skill 0->400 (well, a bit more if it’s a really low level character). Since you can have all crafting skills one one character and there are 8 crafting skills, it will give 80 levels in total.
Personally I LOVE this about the game. Not that I would do it myself but its still a neat design that crafters are rewarded for their gathering prowess lol. Leveling a character yourself lets you really fine tune your character though as you unlock abilities you get more educated on their best uses and utilities over time. Otherwise it’s like buying the game and going straight into sPvP. Confusing as heck! (for me atleast lol)

Seriously though… those links would be great. Otherwise there’s really no counter-argument to the growth of GW2 yet other than players posting how much they dislike the game every now and then lol.
Jesus, again with the vagueness. There’s nothing you can buy in the Gem Store that gives you better stats/traits/builds than anyone else of the same exact level (to my knowledge) so your “more powerful” point doesn’t apply. I’m disheartened that you are so zealous about this point you’re trying to make. This game has a lot of false presumptions made about it.
Pay to progress = pay to win. It’s not hard to understand. It’s also the reason the game is focused so heavily on grinds. See above, P2W games always follow this path.
Sure paying to progress is cheap. I’ve seen it in games like Allods Online where it was near impossible to continue questing unless you bought some item or relic from the shop. However, GW2’s boosts are entirely optional. They’re convenience items that only barely let you level faster and grant more Karma. I received a ton of XP and Karma boosts during the holiday events that I didn’t even have to pay for so you can have the same godly advantages as others in a sense. =P
All in all, your character STILL has to abide by the mechanics of the game. By that I mean that you allocate trait points and skill points exactly the same as anyone else at your level. You don’t get exclusive skills, weapons, or gear. I think your argument is hinged on the smallest technicality of how long it takes to level. Gear has nothing to do with it since you can get the same gear as a lvl 80 as long as you too meet the requirements of the dungeon. It’s not the strongest argument but it does make you correct in a way. However, your argument that this will inevitably ruin the game is very ambitious.
All buying gold to rush a character to 80 does is produce a player unfamiliar with the profession. In WvWvW, a fully geared 80 with no experience will get stomped quicker than an upleveled toon with experience & skill. Let them buy their 80s. Just more fodder for us. If they turn out to be good, well, now you have another person to party up with. Solves that “can’t find a dungeon group” issue quicker.
It cheapens the entire game, besides a new player can do just fine in GW2 considering that in this game you just fire abilities when ready for the most part. The skill ceiling is insanely low.
Please explain what aspect of the game is currently P2W. That term alone is cringe-inducing since everyone has a different view of what P2W even means. I haven’t seen anything in this game that gives an unfair advantage to one person over the other besides player skill.
If you can spend money to make your character more powerful the game is P2W. I’m pretty sure a geared level 80 has an advantage over someone leveling up. If you wish to pretend otherwise that’s your choice, but it changes nothing.

Any game that you pay for AND has P2W elements is pretty terrible design. It’s a disturbing trend that will inevitably hurt the industry.
It killed Diablo and it’s killing Guild Wars (that and gutting the class customization).

I haven’t seen anything in this game that gives an unfair advantage to one person over the other besides player skill. Technically XP and Karma boosts DO give an advantage, but not in sPvP or WvW. Not by a longshot.
Slightly yes by 3% or so due to the game of the year awards and christmas. They did 15 days ago increase the server capacity that makes it seem like it as well.
But the truth is they have lost 65% of the population since the launch.
The locusts left in Sept.
WvW is stale in unless in T1 never a Q
Spvp and Tpvp are on total life support.
Then came Ascend gear – That lost 30% of the pop right there.
Now there is the loot downgrades the constant changing of the goal posts.
And frankly some of the worst management of a game from a design studio I have seen with the exception of TOR it is on par with Bioware right now.Revenue is being squeezed out of every non dungeon player. For some reason Anet went against what they thought and put the best gear and loot in one place and made it available at one place and gated the content. They then went out and killed open world loot to force people to buy gems to keep up with the dungeon runners.
What you see now is up upswing for holidays about 10% pop increase (returning players not the 3% new accounts) for a few days then people exodus again as they see Anet hasnt fixed the issues they left about.
It was the same with Halloween.
The game is in trouble yes. No not critically yet but I do predict that with the epic new content in FEB that there will be a F2P announcement to bring in new accounts and increase the revenue stream as they have bled the non dungeon runners dry.Open worlds are empty and barren and DE’s are solo or arent done. Really sad.
WvW – borderlands are always outmanned/breakout event constantly ready. Bad
– EB still manageable and fun at times but the only place to fight. Sad
Spvp -4 hours a day can you get a hot join match
Tpvp – dead – no one does them any more.
Dungeons – seems ok somewhat. Use the lfg site and map chat. Still non fractal is next to impossible to do.Yes they come back from this but it will take a significant effort and they must listen to the community instead of trying to silence them. Most people here want the best game possible but when the devs constantly attack you as a player you wonder why bother.
As a statistics and graphs junkie, could you please link me where you found those numbers? I find that stuff interesting.
Havent looked at other posts here but have you tried completing the world map? Including all of the jumping puzzle achievements? Those are extremely fun with friends! I’m saving all of that stuff until I get bored so I’ll have something to do until next patch/expansion. =) Also I highly HIGHLY believe that a lot of players THINK they know all there is to do so they fool themselves into thinking they’ve done it all. There’s a ton of stuff to do in this game.
Its perfectly normal for MMOs to have to patch after install. But is that your normal internet speed??? 40kb is reaaaaally low! =o Mine is 2mb the lowest. One thing I can say though is that I have re-installed GW2 twice now and never had such a huge patch before so there may be something wrong here or maybe my computer somehow stored the previous patches to make it faster.
It seems alot of people are having a problem after that last patch. Hope ANet can sort this out. Literally can’t find anything to occupy my time right now. GW2 has ruined most games for me lol.

Maybe WTFast or battleping would work by routing around.
Sorry but I’m quite ignorant about what you’re referring to. Could you explain a little? I wouldn’t even know how to begin “routing around”.
Hello, I posted in another thread about this but I didn’t want to high-jack it any longer. Whenever I try to start the game the launcher appears to try to download an update only to freeze on “Downloading 0kb” and eventually give me a “send error report” message. This crash nearly takes out my entire computer with it.
What I’ve tried:
1. I have tried deleting the Local.dat file then creating a shortcut of the “exe” and adding the “-repair” command to no avail.
2. I have tried the MSCONFIG route of disabling the startup programs and the game STILL crashes.
3. My GameAdvisor Report is attached.
Please let me know what else I need to try to continue playing this amazing game! I’d also like to add that the ONLY thing that works is a complete RE-install of the game but its only temporary. Thanks in advance.

Thought we would get more than just 3 transmutation stones for exploring the cities? Not really worth it if all cities are this way lol. Hoping you can help me with this ANet. Screenshot below.
I still need help! My computer crashes every time I try to install Guild Wars. It’ll install for a number of minutes and then my computer will crash and restart…
Are you trying to re-install from disc or are you getting the client online? The disc worked for me so if you have it I recommend doing that over the online install client.
The game now works for me. I re-installed completely and was able to login. Thanks for the help. Hope it doesn’t happen again. Downloading takes so long lol.
I can’t think of anything I may have done between today and last night that might have caused this except add the Guild Wars 2 exe to Steam but I doubt that was it. Wondering if I should try re-installing.
Durjoa and Alex, any updates?
Ashley, here’s a bit from that crash window I keep getting while trying to start the game:

Should close this thread!
This new FOV is live already if you guys haven’t notice from the last patch note etc. if you keep using this function, either it won’t do anything now or you’re creating bugs.
Can someone verify this please? Thanks
I can verify. Look at the thread named “Game Update Notes – November 15th, 2012” under the News and Announcements section. The second post in that forum by EvanTeicheira shows that they moved the game over to the new FOV (last bullet point). Rejoice!
Hi Alex and X The Manimal – I’d like for you guys to first browse to Documents\Guild Wars 2 and delete the local.dat file. Once you’ve done this, try repairing the game client. To do this, please try the steps below:
1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.
2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Repair.”
4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
5. Edit the “Target” line to include -repair at the end.
Note: Please make sure -repair is outside of the quotes
Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -repair
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -repair”6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.
If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.
7. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Repair” to start the repair process.
Once completed, please try starting Guild Wars 2 again.
Dictator Tot – Your issue may be a little different. I noticed you don’t have any video card drivers installed which could certainly cause the issue that you’re experiencing. You’ll definitely want to locate the latest drivers for your card and try the installation again.
I did exactly this and this time something different happened, although it did still crash. I attached a screenshot to show. Once this “repair” window went away, nothing happened.
I ran the test. Here’s my report.
Attachments:
I’m having the same issue. The little window comes up saying “Downloading 0 KB” like it usually does but never gets past this. It then crashes. Game was working fine last night.

It’s very hard to understand the side of the community that cries wolf at anything that seems like it may cause the slightest grind when nothing has been implemented yet. I too am disappointed. Not with the GW2 community, but with the MMO community in general.
Now I remember why I nearly quit MMOs altogether. You people get months of content to play without a subscription and now this.

ANet, it’s been said before but PLEEEEEAAAASE move the camera higher. Right now it’s centered on your torso or the center of your character model. This makes you feel trapped and closed in. Not to mention it feels like you character is in the way rather than an avatar of yourself. If you move the center higher to the head it’ll feel much better.
Even with the FOV Beta I find the same issue of the camera position making my character block my view of the beautiful world.
