Cant thank you enough ANet. It’s funny that not too long ago there were people raging about how ANet will never listen to their community because they never do (allegedly). This shatters that perception. The game looks great and I don’t feel like im looking through horse blinders anymore. There is a bug i found that I’m sure everyone has experienced by now…

Bug – When entering the Mad King’s dungeon, your zoom is stuck at “boss mode” where it zooms out pretty far to give you a good view of the boss. Logging out and back in fixes this. It actually isn’t a BAD bug, I love that I can zoom out that far and would love it if you considered leaving this zoom distance in the game.

Thanks again ANet, keep being the best developers ever!

Most people say to “dodge alot” but I believe the opposite. I say “dodge sparingly” only dodge the big hits (when the enemy looks like he’s absorbing power right before he unleashes an attack). If the enemy is a melee type you can simply MOVE out of the way of its big hit and not waste a dodge. I have found this keeps me alive much longer especially if you’re not already spec’ed to have an increased endurance regeneration rate.

I love this game, and see few faults that ANet isn’t actively working to fix. But of them, I would have to say this is the biggest problem, the game world just lacks content, especially content which makes one wish to play through the game multiple times.

I would love to see them add more content, but it just seems contrary to good business to add more content that nobody is paying for.

They ARE going to add content that you actually don’t need to pay for (expansions). Out of curiosity though… what does “content” mean to you?

Umm… content? Dungeons, new areas, renown/heart quests, events, event chains, bosses…. just more of what we have, and possibly more varied versions of what we have.

Than all you need now is… patience. =) The Halloween event is guna be fun!

I don’t think you’re as casual of a gamer as you think you are. Also gear progression shouldn’t define content alone, that’s your mistake. I don’t even know how to check play time in this game but since the 3 day headstart I only have a lvl 61 warrior, a lvl 25 ranger, and a lvl 4 elementalist. None of these guys have anywhere close to exotic gear. Dungeon grinders, to me, are not casual players btw.

The biggest flaw and gripe I see/have with world bosses is most of them easily get pushed into a corner.

I’m very thankful that our stuns, dodges, cripples, and bleeds are able to affect bosses thus training us to keep up our DOTS and use our immobilizers efficiently but it turns into a mundane button mashing frenzy that makes your screen fill up with casting effects.

Khol (the one eyed giant that occasionally attacks a Char outpost) is a great example of a World boss that keeps you on your toes even though he could use a few more attacks/abilities.

The rewards need to be amped up a bit since I hardly see people willing to take on bosses for 90 Karma in lower-level areas. Especially since it takes so long to beat one. I think they should lower their HP, yet make them more interesting and challenging. If they take out the ability to stun bosses altogether I’ll be very happy as we’ll see less bosses getting cornered and pinned to a wall.

JonPeters

FOV in GW2 is 75

This statement doesn’t make sense because in GW2, the vertical FOV is fixed and the horizontal FOV is adjusted accordingly (as seen with multiple monitors and windowed mode). The vertical FOV, however, is not 75, but more like 45.

JonPeters

2) art suffers

I really like that you care about the art, but it won’t suffer from an increased FOV. Why would it? Instead, it is suffering RIGHT NOW, because we can’t see tall structures at all. Most of the time you are looking at the ground because the vertical FOV is so small and the camera is placed so that you see your big Norn back all the time.

I would like to add that I do find myself looking down most of the time because of how small the view is compared to my character model when playing a Char. It gets really annoying having the model in the way of the beauty in this game.

ANet: Theater-Style Cutscenes Here To Stay?

in Personal Story

Posted by: X The Manimal.5293

X The Manimal.5293

I have a question I’m hoping to get answered, even vaguely: Are these two-shot, theater style cut-scenes here to stay? Is it impossible, by mechanics or by principle, to ever have in-game cut-scenes in the future or even the next expansion?

These cut-scenes do have a unique style and are mostly very beautiful but they really yank you out of the moment and are seemingly used at random times. I’d understand more if they were only used for those REALLY short personal story instances. For example, when you talk to Queen Jenna in her royal chambers as a Human. Everything else would retain it’s intensity, flow and energy (such as battles) with in-game cut-scenes.

Thanks in advance! Great work with the game so far. Really enjoying the heck out of this fantastic game!

Allow Swimming STRAIGHT Down

X The Manimal.5293

Currently we swim at a slight angle and not really DOWN. At first I had no real problem with this until I did a personal story quest in a sewer where you eventually have to swim down a couple of times through broken grates and it was very frustrating. Not to mention the camera’s bugs added more to that frustration. I suggest you just let us swim straight down instead. I think it’s a rather minor suggestion that shouldn’t conflict with other mechanics.

Suggestions for customizing our characters

in Suggestions

Posted by: X The Manimal.5293

X The Manimal.5293

1. This would completely destroy weapon swapping during combat and thus make alot of the skills and traits mechanics that REQUIRE weapon swapping for a buff useless. Then they’d have to redesign ALOT.

2. I actually like how grounded the human armor is starting off. Grounded in reality that is. Later on there’s some awesome armors that you gotta work hard towards. Don’t know what level you are but I’ve seen some crazy cool things in Lion’s Arch that make me jealous lol.

3. I agree with weapon dyes, it was in GW1 I think. But I think that a “barber shop” should be the MOST they go with the post-customization on a character.

On Botting and What We’re Doing About It

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: X The Manimal.5293

X The Manimal.5293

For those of you who STILL see the same bot you reported a week ago, I believe this is due to the tactic of gathering all bots at once and terminating them altogether. This eliminates the botters from figuring out what gave them away thus they are not able to adapt their tactics. If ANet IMMEDIATELY bans a bot, they’ll know exactly what gave them away.

Are MMO players trained to play for progression...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The progression focused player base is not worth retaining, at least for this game.

GW2 is a one time purchase, to expect it to have regularly added progression after initial purchase is ridiculous.

Except for that one-time price you’re going to get free content updates for the life of the game.

This.

X The Manimal.5293

I’m sure you’re looking for people who HAVE had second thoughts to answer this but for the sake of discussion I’ll say that I have not.

This is what I believe an MMORPG should be like. I finally realize now why I was never truly happy in WoW, the grind and lack of story-telling mechanics really made me feel like I was doing a job rather than playing a game.

Sure GW2 has it’s flaws in story telling mechanics (not a HUGE fan of the convo cut-scenes that rip you out of the moment) but I remember playing WoW from Vanilla to now and if THAT game can change as much as it has (graphically, interface, etc) then I know ANet can do better to please it’s playerbase by improving the experience in future builds and expansions.

From what I can see, they really take suggestions into consideration. I dove into the suggestion forums on how ANet can improve story-telling and why some of the characters and stories are one-dimensional and bland at times. ANet responded positively to the “heavy” criticism and said they were taking it into account moving forward. That’s what I like to hear! =)

I'm having trouble understanding.

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: X The Manimal.5293

I agree with you OP and this is something that really irks me. People coming into the game forums and making suggestions threads about adding features that WoW has. They might as well ask for the playable races of Orcs, Tauren, and Aliens from space (dranei?) while they’re at it. It’s ridiculous.

(end rant) Anyways, gamers need to start thinking of ideas that build upon what ANet has created and not only that but play the game that ANet intended it to be. It’s their world, their stories, and their characters so love it or hate it.

This is specifically referring to the main story mission “Forewarned is Forearmed”. The hostile fish and jelly fish in the sewers will randomly run away when you’re attacking them and glitch through the sewer walls making it impossible to finish them off. Sometimes they won’t return for a while.

Also, Forgal (NPC companion from the Vigil) chases after them through the wall and hilarity ensues as you see them ghosting in and out of the walls fighting to the death. I appreciate the good laugh but this makes the game feel tacky and kind of ruined my experience.

I’m referring to some of the objects you must destroy to finish a Renown Heart or even in Dynamic Events that have you destroy tanks, wagons, etc. When using a melee weapon you will continuously miss. The only way around this I’ve found is to move forward while attacking. Not so bad but get’s annoying when you want to use a skill like Hundred Blades.

So far this has happened with Wagons, Mortars, and Tanks but I’m sure there are dozens more that need to be fixed. I’m on Isles of Janthir.

3 things that make a great MMO you cant stop playing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: X The Manimal.5293

X The Manimal.5293

1.Dynamic events. I feel ANet started something great here with their truly grounded event chains that are more natural than Rifts random rift spawns. I’ll tie this point into the renown hearts as well as in questing that doesn’t have naked mechanics. ANet did a good job at concealing the mechanics behind a bar.

2. Bosses (world and dungeon) that are more like the Kol encounter. After that boss, everything else seems to deteriorate into backing a boss into a corner and mashing buttons and seeing spell effects to the point where you can’t see in front of you. This happens more in world bosses but I wish they would change this. Kol easily seperates the men from the boys (figure of speech, I know there are girls here too).

3. More end-game content for those who completed everything (or most of everything) else. The OP’s point on “Level cap” is ridiculous. Again, another person who only focuses on the lvl cap or mere NUMBER. The explorable dungeons are awesome though but I revert back to my point on the bosses not being all that interesting after a certain point.

Guild wars 2 content update

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: X The Manimal.5293

X The Manimal.5293

No need to buy them, Gw2 will feature consistent free content updates and in-game events going forward. Our goal is to make it so you get more from Gw2 for free than you get from a game you pay a subscription for.

On top of a large amount of free bonus content, we will be expanding on offerings in the Black Lion Trading Company going forward, as well as be doing large-scale expansion content down the road.

We’ll cover a lot of the details on the kind of support and plans we have in place over the next month or so on the Gw2 blog and with our press partners.

We do appreciate that you’d like to buy lots of new content, but we’d prefer to give a lot of it to you for free, cause that’s what we think a responsible MMO company does!

Thats pretty much what ever modern MMO does though. It’s certainly not unique.

I’m sorry, but which ones? All the ones I know of make you pay a sub… and those that are F2P limit content until you start giving them money. (WoW, LOTR, SWTOR)

Same with this game in the form of yearly 40-60$ expansions. With Lotro I could have pretty much unlocked the entire game for 6 months with the 250 or so turbine points they give you for extra crap.

Anet is far from a saint, they have no sub fee because A) I highly doubt this game would be successful if it had one (I know I wouldn’t have bothered picking it up) and There are many other MMOs that are just as good as this one.

Careful there, you’re threading into subjective territory now. Not everyone thinks those “many MMOs” that YOU play are as good as this one. Not even close.

Objectively speaking WoW, TOR and RIFT (and a few others) are all good quality games, what it comes down to is personal test.

The only reason I bought this game was because I was getting tired of TOR and WoW and didn’t want continue to sub to either one for the few months that I wasn’t going to play them, if it had a sub fee I promise you that not as many people would play it for years and years.

That’s all speculation and we have no real way of knowing since ANet won’t switch to a sub-fee. So what good does your “promise” serve? You’re operating on pure conjecture and it’s getting this thread nowhere.
