I did not create this video but it states my personal thoughts VERY well and I think ANet should take a look at it and take the points into consideration. This video is from WoodenPotatoes, also known as one of the Guild Wars lore experts of Youtube.
WARNING: Pretty big spoilers in this video, if you haven’t completed any of the personal stories, please do not watch this video! This is mainly for ANet’s eyes.
GW2 is not a game based on the concept of “endgame”, as in being enslaved in a circular flow of repetitive grind->reward system.
Anet has been yelling for months that they were doing away with that kind of endgame and were going to give us legendaries for PvE, WvW for PvPvE guys and sPvP for pvpers.
They did.Not happy with this formula?
You bought the wrong game for you, regardless Anet yelling this at you for years.
Guess who’s to blame. You know what is hilarious, you say they didn’t want to do this but they did. The whole game has many aspects that promote a circular grind already for a reward.
So you know what? Why not let us structured PvE folks have our rewards for completing harder content with more powerful loot.
I have to agree with you. My leveling experience thus far has been the ‘carrot on a stick’ for gear with stats.
Anyone who says gear doesn’t matter in GW2 is fooling themselves.
On that note, love the game and don’t miss real life in the least!
Yes, but this game isn’t gear dependent. Meaning they don’t offer any higher tiers of gear and don’t set the player’s goal to get high level gear. The hardest accomplishment in this game is getting a legendary item, which is an exotic but with a different skin..I mean common, who cares? I wouldn’t, if there isn’t any real reward, if there isn’t any real impact on what I’m doing than why would I do it. I wouldn’t.
You should know that GW2 is all about horizontal progression game, not GEAR TREADMILLS WITH NO LIFE ENDLESSLY GRIND ALL THE TIME FOR BETTER STATS GEAR GAME.
The things that separate between players are Playstyles, because all attributes in this game are crucial, gear progression in GW2 is seeking for suitable gear which proper to your Builds, your Traits, your Playstyles and making your character become more unique and better looking. Rather than become more stats, more tiers, more powerful and make the entire game is all about mindless grinding game. What’s the point when you are level 80 and you have to seek for the gears and when you get gears you already know that there are always better gears in the game since the new patches come out, the game is all about gears tier chasing all the time (thats why the word “Gear Treadmills” comes from). I have enlightened before during playing the traditional online games, that it is completely pointless to play those type of games just for grinding to better gears. So If you want “Those type of games" please go back to plenty traditional MMOs.Are you HONESTLY saying that gear in this game doesn’t matter? Every piece of new gear I equip is because it has a stat upgrade compared to my previous gear.
Anyone that thinks gear doesn’t matter in the game should strip all of their precious valuables and play the game naked.
GEAR MATTERS IN GW2.
Gear does matter, but not like in other MMOs. Gear in GW2 is like a supplement to your skills where in other MMOs it solely defined how long you’d last in a PvP match.
WoW has some very interesting PVE bosses which you could look at for inspiration.
Outdoor bosses where the strategy for killing them isn’t spelled out (so that players would have to trial and error how to kill them) would go a long long way to adding the level of “raid-boss depth” that players of WoW are used to.
I’ve never, in my 4 years of playing WoW, seen the bosses as interesting or remotely challenging. Maybe because of the research needed by tanks and healers to do their part which made raids and dungeons easy? I’ve always ran stuff smoothly with others in my guild. To be honest it was kind of boring.
Anyways, GW2 is kind of suffering from the same thing with it’s world bosses. They usually always get knocked into a corner then everyone just wails away on it. There’s not much to dodge that I can tell unless you’re trying to revive someone then the boss immediately targets you if you’re close. IDK, I love this game alot but the world bosses need to be more versatile. Maybe allowing players to stun and knockdown bosses was too good of an idea that it made them easy.
It’s fine the way it is.
I can’t go back. Not even if those other MMOs dropped their sub-fees. Before launch, I was playing RaiderZ and was having a hell of a time! I figured “THIS is the game I’m going to play ALONGSIDE Guild Wars 2!” but I haven’t logged back into Raiderz since GW2 launch. Haven’t even had the urge to. I love what ANet created and I fell in love with the lore in GW1. So much so that the stories in GW2 really pull me in and make me care about my character. So it’s either that, or go back to elitists, grinding, damage meters (puke), and sub fees.
Off-Topic (kinda): The weirdest thing I’ve been seeing in games today is people wanting to literally change a game into something else in it’s genre. An example is Battlefield 3 and many wanting it to be like Bad Company. While Bad Company was awesome, people just don’t know how to accept a game for what it is, and what the Developer intended. Same with GW2, I see many people requesting things in the “Suggestions” thread that would essentially convert GW2 into World of Warcraft or SWTOR. Play the game that the developer intended you to play. If you don’t like it (other than fixable bugs and balances) then it’s not the game for you.
It’s been suggested to download the latest Beta drivers for your card if they’re available. Might help.
I wasn’t posting to have a debate about the issue. It’s been well documented since BWE1, and it’s a well documented issue for PC games.
Maybe you’re not getting an official response because it’s not an official MMO issue? An FPS maybe but not MMOs. The camera has real problems like bumping into the environment, the distance, and etc but this doesn’t seem like one of them. Also, you posted into a public forum where other people besides the Devs can give their opinion. Do you not understand forums and how they work?
You don’t need “tanks” at all for Ascalon Catacombs. The most important things are crowd control, and for the Lovers specifically, stuff that can pull enemies (like Scorpion Wire for thieves and Spectral Grasp for Necromancers) in order to separate them.
That said, protip on that fight is to basically dedicate two people to throwing boulders at one of the two (I suggest the dude) while the other three people fight the chick until she’s dead. Then it’s just a matter of everyone killing him (and if you want a laugh, have everyone grab boulders and you can knock-down lock him until he’s dead).
TL;DR: The Lovers require pull abilities or the liberal application of boulders. Everything else in AC is perfectly doable without any “tank”, and trying to “tank” in the first place is ill-advised.
Protip: Have everyone in your party attack the chick while the heavy armor person (usually warrior) attacks the guy. The warrior then runs circles around the small pillars that are in the area, thus obstructing the guy’s attacks… most of them. This worked for us. No need for boulders although it might help. Also, make sure the warrior has some knockdown abilities as well as a two-handed hammer (knock down skills).
No need to buy them, Gw2 will feature consistent free content updates and in-game events going forward. Our goal is to make it so you get more from Gw2 for free than you get from a game you pay a subscription for.
On top of a large amount of free bonus content, we will be expanding on offerings in the Black Lion Trading Company going forward, as well as be doing large-scale expansion content down the road.
We’ll cover a lot of the details on the kind of support and plans we have in place over the next month or so on the Gw2 blog and with our press partners.
We do appreciate that you’d like to buy lots of new content, but we’d prefer to give a lot of it to you for free, cause that’s what we think a responsible MMO company does!
Thats pretty much what ever modern MMO does though. It’s certainly not unique.
I’m sorry, but which ones? All the ones I know of make you pay a sub… and those that are F2P limit content until you start giving them money. (WoW, LOTR, SWTOR)
Same with this game in the form of yearly 40-60$ expansions. With Lotro I could have pretty much unlocked the entire game for 6 months with the 250 or so turbine points they give you for extra crap.
Anet is far from a saint, they have no sub fee because A) I highly doubt this game would be successful if it had one (I know I wouldn’t have bothered picking it up) and There are many other MMOs that are just as good as this one.
Careful there, you’re threading into subjective territory now. Not everyone thinks those “many MMOs” that YOU play are as good as this one. Not even close.
Whoa, YOU made this? This is very good, it might as well be in the game it fits Sylvari perfectly! Paints a great picture of Tyria and life through their eyes. Thank you for this.
I love Dontain’s work. Great commentator. This made me LOL pretty hard first time I watched it. Heck, every time I watch it I LOL. xD
I can’t post my specific build here but I have an axe in my mainhand and a sword in my offhand and it works very well for stacking vulnerability with bleeds. I built my warrior to gain lots of crit and bleeding duration. My weapon swap gives me 5 strikes of adrenaline which helps a good amount. My second set of weapons are a sword and horn for the speed buff mainly, also having that sword in main hand gives you a cripple and a leap for fast getaways or closing distances between you and enemies. Very versatile. I love this game.
This might have been said before but I’m not reading 5 pages to find it so here goes:
There are no tanks since there is no way to always hold aggro or taunt unless you’re the ONLY person attacking the boss. Even then, some bosses and mobs have priorities like attacking people with light armor first, or attacking people with two handers first, etc. The only way you’re a tank is if you’re spec’ed into vitality and anything that’ll give you more health and armor. Other than that though, you’re not a tank.
There are no healers. There are supports. Guardians can use awesome AoE heals but that all goes to crap if you stand in one spot letting the boss wail at you. You have to rely more on your personal heal and your dodging.
Side note: ONLY dodge BIG attacks. You have two dodges before you have to wait for it to recharge so don’t waste it on a small attack. This works with instances, dungeons, or PvE. Just kite the boss or use stuns and cripples while you make your escape if you’re heal is on cooldown and you can’t dodge. If you used up your heal already and can’t dodge and your stuns and cripples are already on cooldown… you just mashed buttons and didn’t manage your skills efficiently.
This doesn’t belong in the Players Helping Players section.
They’ve been dealing with hackers since day 1. Why do people always assume ArenaNet don’t know about gold sellers and hackers? It won’t destroy the game, just make the chat annoying. Either way you can report these people.
Titles, ranks, pretty gear, PvP legendaries, kitten. If you open your character screen and go down to PvP (the screen that let’s you go to heart of the mists), there’s a bar that shows your current PvP rank.
You get a kitten?
6.damage meter… everyone likes to measure their skills
Other people have answered your suggestions very well and essentially, you need to know how to adapt to the gameplay. But I highlighted number 6 in your list to say this:
NOOOOO!!!!! Never, ever, please GOD NO DAMAGE METER!!! It single-handedly ruined WoW and created hundreds of thousands of elitists in the community and ruined it (amongst many other things). Keep that AWAY from GW2!!
K, done.
To add to this I’m opening each fight up with Mark of Blood which is doing even more damage… there is NO reason that I can tell of that this thing should even be pulling threat off of me… ???
So you’re saying that because the pet isn’t really doing as much damage as you.. that he shouldn’t be pulling the mob’s threat? Every mob is different in terms of what grabs their attention depending on what kind of mob it is. They have varying priorities whether that be “Attack pet first”, “Attack Warriors first”, Attack Light Armor users first", and the list goes on and on.
Ive had this happen as well. I think it’s an awesome idea that the pet can take the hit if it’s in the line of fire but please don’t switch my target. =(
Also, why do you keep saying “kitten”? Makes no sense.
Hey, there’s already a trading post sticky to post this kind of error in. I’d delete this and post it in there. I have and included attachments.
My resolution is 1360×768 and I need to use the Small Interface because of my HDTV’s size. Also I love to see as much of the world as possible. However, when making my interface smaller, it seems to scale down the text in the Trading Post as an image would. This makes it near impossible to read and can strain your eyes. See attachments for a clearer picture of the not-so-clear text.
1st attachment is using the Normal sized interface
2nd attachment shows the difference when switching to the Small interface.
I agree. Same problem for me and my resolution is 1360×768. Wish I could attach screenshots to other people’s posts to show how bad it is. I’ll make my own thread I guess.
When talking to Anise, she says “Ktyta” instead of “Kryta” during the Kellach’s Attack mission. Small typo but still thought you should know. =)
Looks like mostly everyone is having the same issue even though they have higher end PCs. I’m at work and can’t post specifics but I have a GTX580 (NVIDIA) and an i7 motherboard with 32 gigs of ram (yeah it’s excessive, I know lol). I get up to 160 frames out in the world with steep drops to 80 from time to time. BUT in large population areas like Lion’s Arch and major cities it drops down to a mere 40 frames. I play with everything maxed out graphically. No depth blur or V-Sync, high res textures enabled, and native sampling.
