Tequatl is just going to get run over by Zerg Wars 2.
The game is going to run over the boss? What?
Dodge is great, it’s failure is in making it rely on endurance. Take off restrictions on using it and have more reasons to dodge. Make fights more interactive. Rather than “Oh I dodged two red circles, now I face tank until I can dodge again.”
No, that would make all of the content extremely trivial. Dodging in GW2 makes you auto-immune to damage. If you dodge TOWARDS an enemy who is swinging their sword at you you won’t get hit no matter what. You can even dodge through fire without getting hit. Removing the endurance would let you dodge infinitely allowing you to never get hit.
Right now it’s about conserving your dodges for the bigger hits.

Not to mention that ninjas and dart traps rarely are present at the same time.
Except for the most annoying part of the level, the gong tower, where you get knocked back into dart traps if any of the (I think) 6 assassins hit you. Half the time you barely see them coming due to the camera acting up. I don’t mind the dart traps, but please don’t say stuff like this. It’s just not true.
So you proved Wolfheart’s point that it is rare. I’m glad the content is challenging. ANet has nerfed so much GOOD challenging content after launch especially in dungeons thakittens refreshing to play this.
I guess I’m a bit disappointed that we won’t get any sort of story content for at least a month now. SAB is for a niche audience, and Tequatl isn’t new content – just a revamp.
Don’t get wrong, I’m glad that the bosses are getting a revamp because I do them occasionally, but I probably won’t have much interest in the game until new story comes out. (I could be wrong, maybe Tequatl revamp is a precursor to something larger).
I know most people don’t read the short story blogs that ANet puts out but the recent one hints that there may be a looming danger/evil behind the SAB this time around! It’s quite eery if you read the short story. I’d expect something for those of us who don’t fall into the 8-bit niche!
Everything sounds good to me. The bosses really needed a revamp. I’m hoping that the bigger bosses are less static though I understand why ANet made them that way at launch. Also, the lack of an LFG tool really made me take a break for a while. Now people don’t have to sit in LA to spam for a group. I can actually be about questing while I look for a group. So much more convenient that you can write a note too and talk to the pugs you will be recruiting/joining first. I’m aware of the website LFG but really didn’t want to be tabbing out of the game to look for a group or start one. Really disconnected me from the experience.
Makes me wish they took some pointers from a Youtuber named WoodenPotatoes. The guy has some amazing lore theories for GW2. Really great stuff.
Rift?…….
Message Body length must at least be 15.
And henceforth it shall be known that anything resembling an “invasion” via portal(s) is a direct rip-off of Rift.
Seriously though it’s not a bad idea. MMOs always take from each other and try (sometimes succeed) to improve a formula. It perfectly fits GW2’s dynamic world vision.
Most GW2 boss encounters can’t hold a candle to WoW’s finer boss fights
Hahaha. As an ex-WoW hardcore raider, those “finer fights” boil down to gear checks with trinity training wheels. Tank takes aggro, healers play whackamole, Dps autopilot rotations and every now and then you stack or spread out and get out of the fire. Addons tell you what to do when and the fights are tuned so they cannot be completed with current gear thus giving the illusion of ‘progressing’.
After 4 years of hardcore WoW raiding, starting in 40 mans and ending in 20-25 mans, it pretty much comes down to trinity basics + simon says. The only job that could maybe be remotely difficult is the healer. I main tanked and was one of the main healers (there is no single “main healer” in a 40 or 20 man raid) for the majority of those 4 years. We were always on the cutting edge, and competing with world firsts on each of those raids. I never once felt like it required actual skill on my part, or really the part of anyone else in the group. It just required a basic game of simon says and for me not to mess up my rotation. Every once in a while a boss would have a strange mechanic that required me to not hit them at a specific time, to stand in a specific spot… simon says, basically.
I have to +1 this. I didn’t realize it until GW2 was almost out and all of a sudden most of WoW just seemed so bland and trivial.
NerfWars2, nuff said
So any MMO can have a Nerf pun then.
I may be alone in this but I always feel like the world is small. I think it has to do with the zones being separated and the fact that each zone is a square or rectangle closed in so that you HAVE to go through a portal. Wish it was more open and seamless. I’m guessing you’ll instantly teleport to the zone that Divinity Reach is in and fly in from a distance. I doubt they would make you go through all the loading screens of the zones you’ll pass by.
Steam Summer Sale left me with a ton to do. I forgot how amazing Dragon Age: Origins is. Also, Dishonored and Fallout 3. =)
account-wide currency wallet! finally!
also bonus reward/boss loot and watchwork looks nice
I’m curious how the wallet thing is gonna work. is it going to be just another bank tab accessible from anywhere, or is it something like the collectibles tab? Either way, it’ll still probably have a limit of 250 for each slot…
Might be viewable from your inventory. It sounds like it’ll make badges and tokens into currency since a mod said it wont have stacking limitations. They also said that it’ll be just like having Gold. Nowhere in sight but the amount you have is displayed.
Yeah I’m sure ANet cannot wait to assassinate the Queen and redo all the personal story quests that reference her, including one where we save her from death at the hands of a Risen maniac. And plain remove Caduceus Manor from the game since the story part just makes no sense without Jennah.
Ah, the ugly side of a persistent MMO world. This sometimes makes me wish that GW2 was a little more like GW1. It was essentially an Online Single Player where big changes could be made to the story without having to worry about the persistence of the world for every individual player. PvE was a Single Player game foremost with online added to it.
Tha-ha-ha-hank yoooou!!! <3
(out of combat and adrenaline is decreasing)
Ready to unleash!
Just getting started.
ADRENALINE RISING!!
THIS. So annoying being a warrior.
Just call it out when you start or see an event. It’s then up to others to get there on time via waypoints or just walking the whole way. It’s common courtesy.
Adding Molten to Fractals is better than not having it at all, so I’m all for it!
That being said I have really enjoyed the personal story on all my characters so far. IMO opinion it is a feature that sets GW2 apart from other games. How do you think the personal story can be improved?
While the story isn’t too bad, for some reason it just left me callous towards the characters. The only ones I cared about were in my personal story (Blood Legion Charr with Honorable Soldier sire) which almost gets tossed completely aside once you choose an order to stick with. At that point I just didn’t care for anyone especially when they died before adequate character development (imo). I think ANet could have stuck with an overall darker tone like the one in GW: Prophecies. A truly dire situation and perilous journey that seemed to only get worse and increasingly fatal until a sliver of hope (in the form of ascendancy) presented itself. I’m a big sucker for anti-heroes too. Dont recall any in GW2. It just seems too black and white.
There are total of 8. 8 players and that’s all. My guess is as good as anyone else’s but as someone else already pointed out – ANet has the real answer.
As excited as I am for the LFG tool coming soon… ANet screwed up in not releasing the game with it. Someone else took the initiative and made gw2lfg.com and now ANet better hope that people get pulled away from something they’ve been using for a long time now. I guess the biggest draw would be that this tool will be in-game and easier to open/access.
I love your baseless assumptions on what the majority of players want/feel… They really strengthen your argument…
I Like this Game allot And want it to succeed , But here is why i think people quit
1. Lack of Builds/Game-play
2. Lack of rewards
3. Dungeons are boring and no decent loot drops
4. No GVG/HOH/Also long time to fix things
I agree with your last three a lot. At first I didn’t realize how little I was getting for my efforts in this game. About 80% of the time I would get a cool green…. for another class. =/
The voice acting is most awkward when it happens in a cut-scene where you’re standing no more than 4 feet from the person you’re talking to and no expressions are made no matter what the dialogue (example: human story of finding sister. she is apparently in really bad shape but doesnt look it. Also, she coughs about 3 times all while standing there completely still).
Also the voices are super amplified while the background sounds are muted for some reason, terrible audio mixing. I’ve tried messing with the levels myself but it doesnt seem to effect cut-scenes too much. I think the voice acting itself, could be worse and it’s mostly the corny dialogue that’s the issue. The voice actors worked with what they were given. An option to trade the cut-scenes with simple speech bubbles would be cool.

This is really scary for me to say but I think one of the things that keeps me from logging on is the way dungeons and the gear “treadmill” work in this game. So, you pick and choose what gear you want for the sake of looking like a kitten and then when you’re done… then what? I kind of miss stats. I don’t think there was anything wrong with running a dungeon over and over to FINALLY get every piece of gear you wanted that not only looked awesome but were aa great upgrade to get you ready for the next dungeon. Sure you could go for ascended gear but I want to play the story-driven dungeons and have some reward for it and to have a real reason to do ALL of them.
Count me in for the boycott. I love this game a lot, but there’s some things I can’t stand and feel is only worsening this game. I want to support ANet, but I’m getting nothing for it. It’s like saying “Hey ANet, thank you for GW2 and your hard work. Here’s a little extra!” and ANet replying “Thank you! Now here’s a 1% chance to get something to show for your support for us!”

Dat thread title doe
Wait wait wait, so the Sword isn’t just a mini greatsword?! :o
My main grip is the Reef Drake. That instant AoE drop gets me EVERY time. Takes half of my health in the split second that I’m in it. Terrible.
I have to admit thakittens annoying, but it was also my fault for not dodging while I was in a hurry.
I’m very picky, ill admit that, but I don’t think it’s TOO picky to think the wings flap way too frequently? Maybe have them stay still for at least 2 seconds? Still look awesome. Guna get them for my warrior. Also, can’t get “Bash the dragons, bash the dragons!” out of my head! xD
I don’t think Gwen would ever forgive the Charr given her personal experiences, but I think she’s wise enough to see that continuing the war would be bad for everyone involved.
That’s pretty much my thought as well. Our image of Gwen is coloured somewhat through most of our experiences with her being while she rages against the charr – she did, however, mellow a bit towards the end.
Another consideration is that the modern charr are very different to the charr Gwen knew. Gwen’s hatred of the charr was not unfounded prejudice – it was developed through hard experience of several years of captivity followed by acts she regarded as barbaric that were taken even by those charr she regarded as allies. The Iron Legion, however, certainly does not fit the description of “animals, savage animals” – it’s possible that a hypothetical ghost Gwen would recognise this and, while not happy about Ascalon being inhabited by charr now, rightfully regard the Flame Legion as being her true enemy.
Either way, I think she’d be proud that Ebonhawke managed to stymie the charr for two and a half centuries and eventually force them to come to the negotiation table – something that the charr regarded as unthinkable in Gwen’s lifetime.
Would/could ghost Gwen’s hatred of the Charr be reignited if she encountered and spoke with GW2’s Ascalonian ghosts (or with any other ghost, for that matter), though?
Ooooh, I love this idea! I’m sure lots of those ghosts have some grim stories of how their family was slaughtered and how their homes were destroyed by the Charr. Considering Gwen hasn’t been around for the changes the Charr have made or the fragile peace talks, it would be very difficult to turn her back on her ancestor’s ghosts and not want some kind of retribution I think.
I’m all for “performance” meters as long as they’re only for the person who has it.
Not read all the replies in here so I imagine I’m repeating a fair bit but:
1. Guild Halls. So much they could do with this to hire.
2. Instanced based replayable storymode missions.
1. Super agree!
2. Don’t we have that now with dungeons being the story of Destiny’s Edge, and then our Personal story? Also Fractals tells stories from long ago.
It really feels as if they don’t have any direction. I love Guild Wars and the lore. I love the game-world in GW2. But we still have NO road map. None at all.
Lol it feels like it has no direction because they haven’t taken the NEXT step – an expansion. All of this monthly content to me, as said before, is fleshing out the current world and it’s lore while at the same time refining ANet’s approach to new mechanics, and story-telling.
So excited for this! Looks like fun! Definitely getting those holographic wings too!
Well, I logged onto my GW1 toon and went about asking Gwen what she would think… to my surprise her NPC dropped the group, and ran off to Ascalon. Taking Anton’s daggers and muttering somthing about starting a charr-skin rug shop…
And ironicly enough, @X The Manimal, Logan Thackery is Gwen’s descendant from 250 Years ago. With the marriage of Gwen and Keiran Thackery.
Yah, that’s why I said ANet already has that going on with Logan. I just think they could still take it a step further the opposite way with maybe another descendant we didn’t know about? Idk. Just a thought hehe.
Raids could make for a more epic impact in story-telling with dungeons. So many possibilities. I’d say that they should have made sort of a raid-version of fighting Zhaitan.
Something tells me she would not be accepting of Charr at all and I think this is something that ANet could and should capitalize on! Imagine if a descendant of Gwen was some sort of anti-hero. Wanting to do good for the remnants of mankind while being somewhat of a detriment to the peace negotiations between charr and humans. Noble hero with a tragic past. Love those kind of stories.
Though you could argue that Logan Thackery and Rytlok have this kind of thing going on, I still think that they could take it a darker route. GW1 had great dark stories.
“skill” is what 90% of gw2 players that still play don’t have.
So tell us, what SHOULD they have to be considered skillful? Add to the conversation.
Skill to me depends on the game you are playing as well as what activity you are doing within that game. I guess I could say the more you know and practice the mechanics of a fight, event, or activity (such as crafting) the more skill you have.
As far as challenging goes, I feel that simply making a boss take more hits just makes an encounter bland to me. There’s a great sense of satisfaction in being able to dodge big attacks and take advantage of the recovery time for the boss afterwards. Maybe ANet could make attacks have LESS of a telegraph the closer the boss is to death. Kind of like speeding up the boss’s big attacks. They’d have to get rid of one-shots though. That would make it a fun challenge for me.
They should do what they did on gw1 and have AI mobs have skill builds just like players.
Actually mobs are already using the same skills as players do, if you read the combat log you can see the proper names there. That’s not true for all of them of course, but lots of mobs do. What every mob is missing is a “skill1”. A fast attack, that deals low/moderate damage, all mobs have super slow attack speeds, with high damage, but also, due to their slow speed, are easy to dodge/block/reflect whatever. Mobs need first and foremost faster attacks.
Then make them run out of aoe circles, like in GW1 and finally make them use their skills with some intelligence, currently they are mindlessly using their skills, like those Earth Elementals using their reflect shield when nobody is attacking them with Projectiles.
I love this idea. Our self heals are already on a low cool down anyway.
That guy is so annoying, cannot stand to watch him for longer then 30 sec.Why you let someone like Him to decide whether to buy or not to buy a game goes beyond me….Really.
He dislike’s Guild wars2,and now it suddenly is a fail and you hop along with whatever he says… ?
I think it’s time to start thinking for yourself….
He (Angry Joe) didn’t say that GW2 in its entirety is a fail. He just doesn’t like lack of Guild options and unless you run your own Guild outside of a few friends you have in real life then you’d agree. If you watched more than 30 seconds of his videos you’d see how right he usually is with his reviews.
Also, what makes you think that the ONLY reason someone doesn’t like the Guild system is because a Youtuber said so? That’s absurd. With that kind of logic I can go and find a Youtuber who LOVES GW2 and tell you that you love GW2 solely because a Youtuber does.
Because basing difficulty of the game on a very tiny (even if equally loud) minority that will finish any content in hours anyway, and then cry there’s no endgame is not really a good strategy in a game that was advertised as catering to casuals.
Don’t lump us all together.
I played Gw1 for 7 years because it was challenging. If it was only Prophecies with no expansions, I would have still played it for years. Prophecies had no end game (unless you count PvP)
Though it had more expansions, I still went back and re-played Prophecies many times, played it more than other expansions.Challenging content can be friendly to casuals. I was a casual for 2-3 years in Gw1.
Casual as in “limited time to play”, not “bad player”.
Definitely wasn’t that bad a player, I started with a domination mesmer in PvE, right from the start I made a mesmer build like you’d see in a top rated GvG (PvP) match. And it was my first online RPG!See my signature, “Hard mode for everyone”.
Because if there was challenging content most people would complain and it would be nerfed anyway
Yeah, if by “challenging” you mean it takes 3 hours to do because monsters have 1000,000,000 HP and hit for 19,000 damage.
But real challenging content? I think people would like it, so long as they are introduced to the challenging concepts slowly through the game, so they’re well prepared for harder content.
I completely concur. Also, most people have a negative outlook on casuals. We are NOT all “derp, give me infant mode now!”.
I agree that maybe having different paths for one dungeon might not be the best thing going for GW2 at the moment. The idea was cool seeing as you essentially have multiple dungeons in one but as stated by others most of the alternate paths are skipped due to rewards being the same by running the “easier” paths. Maybe ANet could consolidate all of the paths into one mega dungeon and increase/modify rewards?
(edited by X The Manimal.5293)
It won’t end in a dungeon. We have however included an instance that will open up that has a single player version, and a more difficult multiplayer version.
The ending is different
A HUGE thank you!!! I must say, I’m very excited about where the game will be in the future. You and your team are so willing to adapt and change for the betterment of the game. This is a brilliant idea and I hope it comes out smoothly!
…I wished I could have an entire skill bar full of nothing but CC breakers (maybe one attack in case I might get a chance to use it), but even if I had that it still wouldn’t be enough for some of these guys.
LMAO I was just thinking this while running through Southsun. Don’t care if all im left with is auto-attacks, I’ll take all CC breakers and 1 heal any day just to get around.
(edited by X The Manimal.5293)
I wish there was a darker tone to some of the current world’s stories. Sure there are some but as far as personal story I feel its much too upbeat and noble. My favorite characters in TV shows, Manga, Anime, and film are the tragic heroes as well as anti-heroes. Still good and noble on the outside but having a side of them that is sick of doing the right thing all the time. Idk, maybe I’m being too specific lol.
Correction: The original given date for the end of the Flame and Frost epilogue was incorrect. The epilogue will actually conclude on Tuesday May 14 with the release of the Secret of Southsun update.
Yessss! That gives me time to complete! Thank you ANet!
I will add that the Living Story cut-scenes are dramatically better than the Personal Story cut-scenes. Though they still suffer from a lack of interaction between the characters, themselves and the environment, and though the painful one-shot poorly-composed camera moves have returned from Guild Wars 1, there has been a dramatic improvement and I find myself way more interested and immersed in the story.
I agree. It was refreshing to be able to FINALLY see everyone in the scene at once and not have it limited to 2 on the screen at a time. However, the camera work was terrible. Having the Camera stay in ONE shot and having it circle around everyone felt cheap.
I do feel like ANet are testing and learning with this so that’s always a good sign. I’m grateful for these monthly events as they seem to be helping ANet with their story-telling and presentation. Hope they’ve learned enough by the time the first expansion comes around. Maybe we’ll see actual cutting to different shots and close ups on characters?
Congrats on liking the game. It took me a while.
Whatever you do, don’t rush to the end. Just take your time.
THIS! I agree a lot with your post OP, I too am having a great time with this game but when you hit level cap its a different story so I’m glad you’re not rushing. I almost wish that crafting DIDN’T give you as much XP since I’ve blown past levels FAST just by crafting so now I avoid crafting altogether on my alts lol.
