cele ele was never over the top in wvw though? It was strong in pvp because it was a point-defending game where enemies had to sit in most of your burn damage while you casually gained 25 stacks of might.
In PvP it was strong and it needed nurfed, but it didn’t need removed. They could have dropped each stat by 10-15 points and it would have been fine.
As far as in WvW, celestial isn’t OP. It is a strong stat combo to run on Guardians and Elementalists, but it isn’t the “best” combination for any given thing. It is just a really well rounded stat combo that allows you to be a “true hybrid” and utilize the full potential of a class. Celestial is certainly good on ele and guardian, I’ve run it on both and my guardian runs Celestial for roaming and group play. Even my Engineer has a celestial set and is pretty good in it.
I don’t feel that cele is op at all, it is just well rounded. In PvP, they could have fixed it, but it was easier for them to just drop it completely than deal with people complaining about the nurf.
@zinkz, I also don’t even run Celestial anymore. It is a very strong armor set, but ultimately it has too much of unnecessary stats that are better used in other places.
This is my latest setup: http://asphyxia.tv/wvw-roaming-elementalist-marauder-variant/
I run Marauders armor, cele weapons, 3 zerk trinkets, 3 cav trinkets and Durability runes now. It is stronger than my cele build, so is it OP too?

Everyone knows roamers are carried by their stats.
Everyone also knows that zerglings are carried by their zergs. :p
Again, they removed it from PvP because they couldn’t figure out how to balance it.
This … Only the condi mesers are a real problem…. Sadly they are OP in WvW roaming ..
And rolling your face across the keyboard on cele ele one of the most broken OP combos the game has ever seen, to the point they eventually gave up trying to balance it in PvP and simply removed it, isn’t OP, okay…
They removed it because they couldn’t seem to figure out how to bring it in line with the other stat combos. I’ve also fought other Cele ele’s on my cele ele and beat them because they don’t know what they’re doing. You can’t just faceroll be good at the game on it against players that know what they’re doing.
OP, no – strong, yes. OP is a PU condi mesmer that can throw 35 stacks of confusion on me in 2 seconds and be as tank as a PTV player because they can run dire and the only stat that matters with condition damage is just that, condition damage. Where as power has 3 things that matter to maximize damage, power, precision, ferocity. OP is Dire armor, not Celestial. Celestial is strong, yes. Dire is OP.
In the next release, a 6th pip is being added to the provision master ability line that allows you to buy HoT recipes, sigils, and runes from the heroics notary vendor.
This is literally the best thing I’ve ever read ever. Unfortunate for me that I just spend 3 days farming Durability runes and Mussel Gnashblade food haha. Oh well though, I am just happy I won’t have to farm them in the new maps on my alt account.
I had a pretty fun outnumbered roaming fight last night that I figured I’d share with everyone.
http://asphyxia.tv/outnumbered-xt-wreckage/
We got a little disorganized for a moment there but we pulled it together and wiped the group that was easily twice our size I think.
They’re asking for our feedback, which in the long term is in fact a solution.
Yes, there is some class balancing that needs to take place, but that is an issue with the game over all – not just WvW. If I could vote for them to balance condition damage in line with power and leave WvW alone all together – I would vote for them to balance condition damage. But its different teams for different issues to resolved.
The WvW guys are doing a good job, I hope they continue listening to their customers and I REALLY hope they give us a chance to vote out DBL so that it never comes back.
T3 and T4 are by far the most fun right now. I’m currently in the T2 match up and I had much more fun in T3 personally.
T1 was just too much with the queues for me, T2 is full of the worst players in the game (DB and JQ), and I say this because its true. On reset night, we fought against JQ who dropped AC’s in every open field engagement and they also had more people than us on top of it lol… Really embarrassing. DB seems like they generally only run in blobs and almost everyone plays condi. Their roamers are the worst roamers in history, all of them are condi and still manage to lose fights outnumbering people and playing with the most cheese builds they could find.
I have no love for T2 currently and I really hope someone else rolls this match up besides FA next week. It would almost be worth while to tank the match so that we don’t have to deal with it again. T3 match up was so much better, SOS/SBI/FA was such a great match.
i am asking do we get to have a chance to be original server? or we will be guest servers forever? what will happen to the 12 guests??*
merge poll won by 75% (yes)!… why??
because the ones that will vote (no) doesnt exist anymore…
the 12 servers that anet killed DOESNT play anymore… they cant vote lol..
That is very untrue. It won by 75% because MOST people are very happy with the server pairing. I get that DR is unhappy being paired with Maguuma, it is a trolly server and leaves a bad taste in some peoples mouths. I personally loved it on Maguuma when I was there, but had to move to get better fights on another server. It isn’t for everyone for sure lol.
this why merge system won ! those 12 servers that still have their server identity and borderland started to play more and more … why??? because they got a entire server that got forcefully transfered by anet to join them! duh they are all happy!! also those top 12 servers probly did a “blob (yes) vote” top tiers population is tick all of them voted (yes) check if any of the 12 guest servers are happy and still play…
I imagine the top 12 servers probably did make up 75% of the games population, but I am not on one of the “host servers”, I am on Borlis Pass which is paired with Fort Aspenwood, so is the rest of my guild that I am the leader of and another larger guild that I am an officer of. We all voted for the pairings in that poll being on a Guest server because we’re having a great time being paired up with FA. So your statement isn’t completely correct, it isn’t like everyone who is paired voted against it, a lot of us voted for it.
anet you have to bring back our borderlands and servers… if you want more population… you create!!… not delete, forget or send away the 12 honorable servers!!
I know alot of people and guilds that havent left their servers for years!
strong loyalty cant understand by some …
Not sure why you think this way, the population has increased over all since they brought back Alpine, linked servers, changed stability to work better and introduced reward tracks. WvW is in a great place right now, much better than it has been since HoT was released.
If you don’t like being paired with Maguuma, either wait it out for the next pairing change or transfer. I know you don’t want to transfer because you have so much pride in DR (never been sure why), but most other servers are very happy with their pairing.
Honestly, I hope Borlis Pass gets paired with Maguuma next go-around. I loved it there, but I really don’t care who we are paired with as long as there are good fights to be had. Getting the fights is what keeps me around in a server, currently being on BP is getting me plenty of good fights.
Seasons maybe?
Like I really wanna love WvW, but I don’t have any incentive to play it.
With reward tracks, it is actually rewarding to play again. I’ve gotten 3 ascended chests (2 armor 1 weapon) in the past week of WvW thanks to the reward tracks.
I’d say that is incentive personally. That and racking up tons of those proof of heroics that you can exchange for siege, badges of honor that you can trade for tribute badges in guild hall and sell for 40+ silver each (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Badge_of_Tribute )..
What more incentive do you need? WvW is in a good place right now as far as rewards go in my opinion, it is finally actually profitable to play WvW, which to those of us who have been playing WvW for 3+ years is a miracle itself.
I play vs Condi Thief….he put blind on you evry 10 sec you can remove 4 condi evry 40 sec so try to remove conditions with elementalist from Traits is onlt the new Diamnd Skin that you remove a condition only when you get struck and that happens when you are hit criticaly and if the enemy is on CONDITION damage when is will actually remove conitions —-NEVER-— and btw that happen if you are above 75% of youre life. yes i know we have a heal skill that remove coniditions but when i do that i can do anything else for about 5 sec +. Did anyone want to say how many CONDI cleanse a DRUID have…..aloooot. A mesmer make me Moa for 2 times in a row and try to remove condi when you cant.
Clearly your build is bad or you don’t know how to play it if you have ANY issues with condi on an ele. Again, see my build if you want to learn anything.
Every time aura is applied, you grant yourself and allies protection, regeneration and vigor. Every time you grant regeneration, you clear a condition.
Run the 3 utility skills that give auras, theres 3 condition clears. Every overload gives you an aura, thats another 4 condition clears. Dagger air 3 clears another, warhorn earth 4 clears another, water 5+3 combo clears another, also if you are running the trait to clear a condition when attuning to water. How much more cleanse do you need???? That is 11 condition clears with very little cooldown and you have diamond skin on top of it clearing a condition every second when you’re above 75% hp.
If you can’t stay above 75% hp fighting a condi class with all of that at your disposal, I don’t know how to help you anymore…
Probally you miss some math here as i said before if that thief put perma blind on you and you have 11 cleans thas ok but those cleans are not coming all togheter, i dont know on wich server are you palying but in the end all elementalist i ask to beat this condi thiefs or mesmers they all lose evry fight trying aagain and again. you have lots of cleans but you will sacrifice other for all those and thief is have the optin to interupt you to get invis etc….im not saying that Thief is not ok to be made for this fight but when a thief is killing you in 3 sec and yes 3 sec is the time and is still invisibile then you put in the mind of new players to wvw what they will comment,, guild wars 2 is full of hackers and cheater someting invisibile kill me’’ mesmer is making me MOA and i dont have any options to use any of those cleans …once im back dang mesmer is making me MOW again from the skill that refresh his skill in 1 sec so again coniditons on me and i cant do nothing.
i ressist in fight but at one point you will end up by not having enaf damage and no cleans and healing will not be enaf…..i said under 75% because is usefull to have that trait condition will get remove only when you will be hit by a critical damage and if a thief or a mesmer is full condi you will get hit by a critical damage NEVER.
ps: loking again at your comment please all from US server are using meta builds i can see you in youtube all.
I don’t know what server you’re on, but I’ve proven time and time again that my ele doesn’t have a problem fighting condi players or any players for that matter. I’ve still only lost 1v1 to one person on my ele build and it is to a good friend who plays a power Revenant, we play together almost every day and have for about 2 years now, so he knows how I play.
I’ve fought and embarrassed countless Necromancers, Thieves and Mesmers. I have left my challenge open to all comers for a long time to 1v1 me and try it out. I’ve made people rage log because their zerker warriors ended up Eviscerating me for 500 damage even on my Marauder build lol…
You’re simply underestimating the Elementalist because it has one of the highest skill caps to play well. Sure you can just button mash on any class and be effective, but it isn’t going to win you 1v1s against players who have any idea what they’re doing like me. The only people I’ve seen win 1v1s against good players are condi mesmers, because you literally can just button mash and stack up so much confusion on people lol. I had 35 stacks of confusion on me fighting one a couple days ago, granted I cleared it almost immediately and still won my fight – but that is a little obnoxious lol.
As I said above, my 1v1 challenge is always open, you can meet me in my guild hall or in WvW if you’re on an enemy server and I’ll happily show you how Ele should be played.

….. I have bit my tongue until now but it’s getting pretty old seeing you spam your site on every forum.
Just post your build. If you don’t even play ranger in wvw don’t bother commenting at all.
It isn’t spam when its relevant. I have a ranger build that I run when I roam on my ranger, which is seldom, I’ll give you that. But I have played it several times and won several fights on it even though I feel that it is the worst WvW class.
To save myself from typing the same things over and over, I link my page. I’m sharing builds, you don’t have to visit the page if you don’t want to.
You can’t clear damage from a zerker before it takes effect.
Every skill that grants Invulnerability ( http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Invulnerability)
Every skill that does blind ( https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Blind )
You were saying?
(edited by XTR.9604)
Conditions are WAY too strong right now, so having this boonshare stuff to stack up resistance is really the only hope for a lot of these groups trying to fight big condi blobs.
I was playing on my Elementalist a couple days ago and ran in to a burn guardian that was ticking 8k burn ticks on me, that is hitting me harder than a full zerk guardian would lol.. When conditions are hitting harder than raw power in a single tick, there is a problem.
You’re completely missing the point, ofc conditions need a bit of work. No one is saying they don’t, especially burning and confusion. Making yourself immune to every condition for 30/40 seconds isn’t really the answer.
You getting hit with 8k Burning ticks was either from an organised piece of play to 1 shot you, or a l2p issue on your account from not cleansing the burning as you saw it come on to you. It could be both. Thing is, how is that different to a thief coming in to backstab you? The only difference is, is the thief has a chance of getting away. If your group is doing anything right, then you should be under enough protection from people jumping you with any kind of damage. But again, the guardian would be punished for dropping you, where as the thief could easily get away.
I didn’t have any L2P issue because his quick stack of burns he threw on me were almost instantly removed by diamond skin lol. The fact of the matter is, he managed to throw an 8k burn tick on me, an ele running diamond skin. Didn’t one shot me, in fact, he lost the fight. I took him down a minute or two later. The fact of the matter is that it shouldn’t be able to hit that hard and remain as tank as it is with dire. Because burn guard only has one real condition they can apply without the use of other sigils or something, he stood zero chance against my ele, but was still able to bring me to half HP a couple times in the fight due to the insane damage from the burns lol.
I get your point, resistance OP. But conditions also OP right now. Both need a nurf, but conditions need a nurf before boon share/duration does.
Conditions also shouldn’t be able to just ignore toughness. Your only saving grace against conditions is clears and tons of HP.
(edited by XTR.9604)
Just nurf dire to be as effective as Soldiers instead of being as effective as full zerk but having the toughness and vitality of soldiers. Problem solved. Conditions need rework, it isn’t news.
Transfer to an NA server, I have to disagree. Roaming isn’t as good as it used to be, but it is good here still.
Some of my solo roaming videos are in the link below for your viewing pleasure.
http://asphyxia.tv/stream-highlights/
Dire and Soldiers should absolutely be in line with each other. Yes, condition clears exist – but so does invulnerability and skills like endure pain and stone signet that completely mitigate all raw damage too.
As I’ve said before, conditions need a total rework. They should be effected by ferocity and crit chance.
Really what needs to happen is a complete rework of conditions. They should be toned down extremely then made to be effected by crit chance and ferocity for damage increases. That way someone can’t just throw on a full set of dire armor and live forever and do more damage than a full zerk person can do. Not really balanced currently. Dire users damage should be in line with Soldier users damage. No big modifier like crit chance and ferocity, then you deal significantly less damage, just like someone using soldiers would.
So nope, can’t feel bad about the boon share stuff going on with resistance right now. It is really all us power builds have left to save face against these condition builds.
Here’s a question: how required is ascended gear vs exotic (celestial wise)?
Because I’m currently running a Soldier’s with your build (just what I had/new to game) and Im’ trying to plan out my gear.
If I remember correctly, Ascended is a 10% stat bonus over Exotic. So while it isn’t required, it is better to have to get the most out of the build. If you’re going to go as far as to make Celestial exotic, you’re better off just going the extra mile and making ascended.
I’d suggest running Fractals for the dailies every day, I got 1 ascended armor or weapon piece generally every other day. Any stat combo you get for ascended is fine since you can convert it to Celestial with the insignia. That is the easiest, cheapest, best way to obtain an ascended set as far as I know.
And you all fail to mention the most broken thing in a wvw setup with this rune set
BOON CONVERSION!
Oh yeah! Guardian boon conversion together with boon duration food, boon duration runes, boon duration trait on staff.
It’s not really the problem if they stack the boons pre-battle, but how many secs of each boon they get in battle with 4-5 guardians running these shout builds. And you know to what chilling coverts right? You guessed correctly! Resistance!
So, basically, check the list in this link (=https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pure_of_Voice) and calculate how many secs of each boon a group can get by converting conditions and how much you can spam it in battle. Think the list is outdated even.Basically, you don’t even need to time your shouts. You just spam shouts and you get a nice set of perma boons on you. Add to that extra boons you get for getting hit! Skill? Synergy? Tactics?
Name it as you like. I name it “keyboard faceroll”.
Gratz to all guilds admitting they can’t defeat anything unless they play broken stuff.
That link you posted for PoV says the Chill converts to Vigor. However using “Contemplation of Purity” mediation will convert chill to resistance.
Some information about what you do on guardian would be helpful. If you are just playing PvE, go play whatever you want lol.
If you’re playing WvW, there are several good reasons to play Guardian if you’re good at it. Provides great front line support, plenty of AOE for tags on enemies, plenty of blocks/invulnerability, healing. It depends on your build and how you’re set up of course.
If you’re playing PvP, no really great reason to keep playing Guardian unless you just like to sit on a point, drop traps and pull people in to them lol. Guardian in PvP is pretty boring.
Ty all for your replies. I’ve seen you both suggested celestial stat on a build. How is the damage in full celestial?
Damage is pretty decent. You don’t have any massive burst damage but your air over load still does a good bit of damage. I’ve been playing full celestial for quite some time now, I am pretty happy with its survivability to damage ratio.
I’ve been recently been going with my Marauder variant for the extra damage since I’ve gotten to the point to where I don’t need as much damage soak as the celestial build gives me. It is nice being able to survive almost anything, but the extra damage is great from Marauder.
I just farmed 2 sets of durability runes, one for my Guardian’s celestial set and one for my Ele’s Marauder set. Pretty happy with both so far after doing a little bit of roaming on them.
http://asphyxia.tv/wvw-roaming-ranger-build/
That my WvW ranger build above, however I don’t recommend running ranger in WvW to begin with. Every class is better at WvW than ranger for larger group play. Ranger lacks the AOE damage to matter in WvW and we don’t need a dedicated healer which is most of what druid brings to the table for group play. I’d recommend literally any other class, but you’re really best off playing something like Necromancer or Elementalist.
For roaming, I have two different variants that I use. I main ele for roaming in WvW and have hours of recorded video on my twitch stream.
Celestial variant: http://asphyxia.tv/wvw-roaming-elementalist/
Marauder variant: http://asphyxia.tv/wvw-roaming-elementalist-marauder-variant/
Both builds explained in those links. I also have videos of game play here, some twitch stream highlights: http://asphyxia.tv/stream-highlights/
Condi ele is not viable in very high level skilled fights versus certain professions.. Any class with more than 3 condi removals can counter it. Also offhand dagger was the superior condi spread was very famous prior June 23 2015 and prior nerf of dagger fire 2,3,4,5. I mean why couldn’t they wait till after HOT released before nerfing that.
Of course it’s viable. Define what is “very high level skilled fights” because if it can take me to Diamond in pvp and then the tier before Legendary (solo queue), I would definitely say it’s high level. I guess it’s all down to user capability.
I agree off-hand dagger was pretty good around that time. The amount of burning stacks it could dish out was nasty, but at the moment D/F is the better weapon set since Ring of Fire got nerfed.
I don’t think condi ele is great considering the lack of conditions it can really dish out outside of fire. For PvP, it may be decent, but still not great really. If you’re running dagger focus, you have your burning from fire and then what? You have some bleeding from earth 1 which is slow cast and not much to be desired. Your conditions can so easily be cleared since essentially all you’re stacking on people is burns and they all have about the same cooldown together as a persons condition clear would.
A hybrid build like celestial would do a lot better than a straight up “condi ele” could. Granted, celestial isn’t in PvP anymore – but I am a WvW player primarily and main roaming on a dagger/warhorn elementalist. I run either full celestial if I’m feeling lazy or Marauder armor Zerk/Cav trinkets and cele weapons if I’m feeling on my game.
Fun video if me doing three 1v1’s back to back on my ele and winning all in a camp I was trying to take lol..
http://asphyxia.tv/three-back-to-back-1v1-wins-on-elementalist/
Anyone who thinks ele is weak these days needs to either fight me or learn how to play it. It is the strongest roaming class in WvW if played right. Plenty of CC, damage, condition clears, and pretty much perm swiftness from overloads, protection, regen and vigor in combat.
(edited by XTR.9604)
A few things need to happen for linking to work.
1. BG should not be linked.
2. All the larger servers should not necessarily be marked full. But the smaller server that is linked to a larger server that is full should also be marked full.
3. The links need to change more often than every 3 months. I think 4-5 weeks would be good.
- Any longer and you’ll get stagnant bad matchups (T1 and T4) and threads like this.
4. Anet needs to take time zone coverage into account – even before total population.
5. The smaller server’s name should be somewhere. Put it on the BL map: i.e. “Stormbluff Isle – Crystal Desert Borderland”. Put it in the name tag – abbreviate it if its too long; every server has an abbreviation that is generally agreed upon. Just put it somewhere.
If you’re bored with these match ups, you’re on the wrong server. I’m on BP/FA right now and it has been a blast. Granted I am not too fond of fighting against DB since they’re just as bad if not worse than YB ever was, but at least the roaming has been fun in this matchup and in the last match up against SOS and SBI.
I’m sorry but I can’t feel bad for yaks bend. This is the server that spent almost 2 years on arrow carts and fighting with open field siege. Anything bad that happens to yaks bend is karma.
All I can suggest is for you to transfer and for us to wave to Yaks Bend as the sinking ship sinks further.
Here are some stream highlights of game play with these builds.
http://asphyxia.tv/stream-highlights/
Durability runes are quite interesting, but most times i end with trooper and traited shouts due my positioning on the field :\, theres to much range damage and range aplyed condi spam.
Trooper runes are still pretty good if you run Stand your Ground and Hold the Line. Durability runes seem to be a bit better because you gain resistance from them, which will mitigate all condition damage for the time of its duration. With the extra 20% boon duration from the runes and if you have any revenants around sharing boon duration or mesmers around sharing boons, that resistance stacks up pretty fast.
The reason i was pondering the boon duration on the stability field even if boon gets corrupted it would re apply a longer boon than usual or even cast it on CC spam zone, but at the end u might be right, it is hard to maintain boons that longer due avaliable removals.
Yeah I get it, the issue is the long cooldown, you can use Stand your Ground twice in the time that hallowed ground is on cooldown unfortunately.
sidenote
IMO we should have more guardian usign at least Sanctuary if playign a support guardian, that way Anet could see how behind the skill is, in many ways, it is so sad when we kill another guardian at melee range and he is inside sanctuary…. most cases dont even need stability to get inside and dps it.If skills are not used they wont even bother to see, due poor data, imo.
I think Sanctuary was cool skill, especially since they changed it to not root you, but its cooldown is far too long to make it worth running compared to other skills that will provide more support.
Seriously, fix taunt. I have to type “/sit” every time a warrior or ranger taunts me because I get stuck in place and can not move until I type it. I can wait 10 minutes and I’ll still be stuck. It is VERY annoying.
I am running ele which has diamond skin, this has been brought up multiple times and no one seems to acknowledge it. Since diamond skin clears the condition of taunt so fast, it makes me get stuck and unable to move indefinitely.
(edited by XTR.9604)
I don’t see it ever growing while remaining stale with the alpines.
So do you also get tired of looking at the same football fields, same basketball courts, same baseball fields, etc??? Alpine is simply the field we’re playing on. It is well designed and works great for WvW game play.
The open field is significantly better on Alpine than it is on DBL and it isn’t a pain just to find your enemies. I don’t want to see DBL back, I don’t want them to change Alpine even. It is perfect as it is and since it has returned, myself and my guild have all greatly enjoyed having it back.
People wouldn’t be running these runes if guilds weren’t running condi necros in their comps lol.
The thing is, when I play Guardian and am going in for a push – I get so incredibly condi bombed that it is just unreal. With my front line running durability runes, we don’t have to worry about it as much. It isn’t permanent for the group that I play with, but it is nice to have a few seconds of it on an engagement.
Also, if you want to complain about resistance, you need to also think about the boon share mesmer that can share out the 4-5 seconds of resistance that they can put out themselves, then also the resistance shared to them by the front line. So a boon share mesmer could throw about 10-15 second of resistance on to the front line pretty easily. But those are few and far between anyway. Groups that have them have been doing great in fights because they don’t have to worry about conditions.
Josh sorry to hijack your thread, but would somethign like this work on group fight?
*asking this due interesting results using boon duration and consecrations on the last days (by observing players behavior).
*one or tow doublon can be used for 100%boon duration on staff.
As far as the traits go, they should be fine. You’ll be feeling it taking Honor line over Valor line though since you lose “Altruistic Healing.” AH is a REALLY nice trait to have for group play, dropping just your staff3 symbol on allies and giving them swiftness is about enough to get you to full HP in a lot of cases.
I would say drop the traveller runes and get durability runes. I’m actually updating my Guardian builds today to reflect that I am now running Durability runes as well.
Wanderer’s gear is something I am not too sure about though. While boon duration is good, you must keep in mind that boons are often stripped before they live out their full duration in larger fights due to things like necro wells. I would really stick with Celestial or a marauder/cav combination if it were me.
As for Consecrations, purging flames is hands down one of the best guardian skills in my opinion. The burning does a decent bit of damage to enemies and it clear conditions from allies – pretty much a win win.
I would say that taking the shout “Stand Your Ground” is a better choice over “Hallowed Ground” because it is not limited to one area where it is dropped and there is a lot less room for error on it. Also keep in mind that even with the trait, the cooldown on Hallowed Ground is still 64 seconds. “Stand Your Ground” is less than half of that being only 30 seconds. Stability is too important to the groups to wait an extra 34 seconds, so I would definitely say drop that one.
As far as Santuary goes, I haven’t personally used it in a very long time, in fact, the last time I did use it, it rooted you still lol. To my knowledge, it is something you can use on the move now, but it also has a 72 second cooldown with the trait. That is a pretty long cooldown and since your build doesn’t have any healing power, it won’t actually do much healing. It is a nice CC, but I would suggest taking either “Hold the Line” which will give a small heal and protection or taking “Fragments of Faith” trap since it grants stability and aegis, breaks stun and also does a little bit of damage.
I’ve been playing longbow/staff on mine recently and it has been pretty nice, but I think there shouldn’t be too many guardians playing that way because you lose your front line for the most part if so. Also remember the longbow 1 and 2 skills are projectiles and will likely hurt you more than help you in groups, so just use the longbow carefully.
I’m not saying that it can’t work, I am just saying that there are better ways to do it.
Hey josh, I saw you had GS for your dragonhunter frontline build…whats the advantage over the hammer?
It is honestly just preference. I’ve actually been playing staff/longbow recently for larger group play. There is only really room for 1 guardian to play like that in the guilds comp that I play with that runs 15-20 people, so I was trying it out and it seems pretty effective.
I like GS more than hammer personally, but both are good choices and necessary to have some of. In that guild I play with, we generally have 3-4 guardians. Driver and 1 other run GS/Staff, 1 runs Hammer/Staff, then if I am on mine, I play GS/Staff or LB/Staff for the CC and extra range pressure if we’re unable to make a push or to help for the engage.
GS pull is one of the main reasons for running GS though. Being able to put as many of your enemies in one place is good for the back line to be able to drop bombs on. At which point the hammer guard rings and the LB guard uses LB5. If everything is timed well with necro wells and ele meteors, its devastating to enemies.

Here ya go, some more 1v1 videos for your viewing pleasure:
In this video, I went to go solo a camp and got in to 3 1v1s back to back before my cooldowns could even recharge and won all 3.
http://asphyxia.tv/three-back-to-back-1v1-wins-on-elementalist/
In this video, I fought a mesmer – granted he wasn’t great, but what mesmer really is? Its just a cheese class with all the stealth lol.
http://asphyxia.tv/my-elementalist-vs-mesmer-1v1/
All of that on a build I’ve been testing on my ele where I am running marauder/zerk/cav and cele weapons. Build here: http://asphyxia.tv/wvw-roaming-elementalist-marauder-variant/
But I suppose you could continue to venture to say that every person I beat in a 1v1 is just bad and continue not admitting that the build is solid and keep dodging 1v1ing me yourselves lol.

If you meet someone you want to 1v1, you can also take them to your guild hall arena if you have one.
There are few things that I do for entertainment after a long day of work and this is one of those. I really just wish they would stop changing it and disrupting the little time I have to enjoy relaxing and playing a video game.
There is OS, but no one really uses it anymore lol.
Hi guys, I just wanted to respond to a few concerns:
Why does this poll need a 75% majority?
- Honestly, we had a difficult time deciding if this poll should be decided by a simple majority, rather than a super majority. When we first decided to start polling, the team decided that whenever we are making a major change to the existing game, that change should require 75% of the community to agree to it. We wanted to avoid anything close to a 51/49 split. Mixed Borderlands definitely falls under the category of a major change to the existing game. However, what made the decision harder, was that polling only started relatively recently. Had this poll existed 6 months ago, before we ever started rotating borderlands, it likely would have been decided by a simple majority instead.
I get it, but you gave way too many options to have achieved a 75%. This poll should have really been split in to 3 different polls. One would be “2 alpine, 1 dbl” or “2 dbl, 1 alpine”, if 75% decided “2 alpine, 1 dbl” which is suspect is HIGHLY likely, then you move to “2 alpine 1 dbl” vs “rotating bls where its 3 dbl for 3 months then 3 alpine for 3 months” – THAT would have given you REAL results. I think you should try this poll over because the results are too skewed by too many options.
- Prior to this poll, the community reaction to the Desert Borderlands had seemed much more positive. Forum posts approved of the changes we had made to the map in the April 19th release, and were largely in agreement that the map had noticeably improved.
- We believed that those that were hostile to Desert would be less so if the Mixed Borderlands feature allowed Alpine to live in harmony with Desert, rather than replacing it for 3 months. So we wanted to provide this option before creating a poll about removing DBL altogether.
While what you guys did to DBL was improvement, it still needs A LOT more improvement to be made viable to many WvW veterans like myself. If it goes on rotation and I have to deal with playing on that map or playing on EBG all the time again, you’ll be forcing myself and my guild out of WvW and probably out of the game again..
What’s next?
- We’ll poll the community to see if at least 75% of them would like to see the Desert Borderlands permanent removed. This won’t be next weeks poll, but likely the week after that.
- If players vote to remove DBL, then the results of this poll will be void (as we’ll only have one borderlands map.) Otherwise, we’ll move forwards with the results of this poll.
This is really the best idea I’ve heard so far and I’m glad you’re willing to at least ask the hard question that I am sure your team doesn’t want to know the real answer to.
Having so many full servers sucks. I feel sorry for solo roamers and small havoc guilds that want to move.
Why feel bad for us roamer and havoc guilds?? The roaming in T1 and T2 isn’t as good as it is in T3 currently. We can all go to a server linked with a T3 server and the roaming is gooooooood. I’m on BP paired with FA right now and I’ve been having a blast roaming.
It’s not just a matter of picking a tier. It’s a matter of being able to choose a cohesive community.
I’m not trying to argue with you, but I do have a question. What will you do when BP ends up paired with another server? And what if you don’t like the vibe of that server? I guess what I’m getting at is this: are people in lower tiers going to keep spending gems to transfer to other lower population servers so they can play with the upper tier servers they WANT to be with?
I honestly never cared about what the community is like in any server I’ve been in. In fact, the server I still consider to be my “favorite” that I have been on is Maguuma and they have been considered the most toxic server community for years haha.
I go where the fights are, if I end up paired with a server that has no enemies, I’ll find my way to another server to have enemies to fight against again. Simple as that.
We do know that a lot of players want more pairing rotation, so if that happens, that makes things real unstable for solo roamers and small havoc guilds that I know. That doesn’t speak for everyone, but this is what I’m hearing from my own friends. Some of them are stuck paired with a community they feel is pretty toxic and they want to move. But with so many unanswered questions about the future of pairing, costs, server population statuses, etc., they feel stuck. And I see their point.
I don’t care if it rotates or not for me personally. It is fun getting in other match ups and being paired with servers you have friends or foes in or against.
Looks like your *opinion isn’t the popular one so far…
51.4% Yes 1: Simultaneous Borderlands is a superior option
27.2% No: Rotating borderlands is a superior option
13.7% Yes 2: Simultaneous Borderlands is a superior option
7.7% Don’t count my vote, just show me the current results.
In case you can’t do math, that’s 65.1% in favor of having at least one DBL at all times.
Option 5 was left out, No DBL at all. How much would the numbers change if it was there?
Edit: Option 4 could have counted to that result, lol.
Read that the same way you did and tilted my head at the math insult. No DBL option was not present and the option with two Alpine bls was the most popular. Bad poll and argument.
Those not in favor of at least one DBL being there at all times would take the option of rotating borderlands . I fail to see how my math was wrong?
There was no option for no DBL at all because obviously scrapping it is not an option. Clearly there is sufficient interest in DBL.
I voted 2 alpine, 1 desert simply to minimize the damage that kitten map does to WvW.
If they had clearly stated they were willing to do a weekly rotation I would have voted for that, but 3 months of that terrible map would decimate the population just like it did last time.
I would rather permanently have 3 out of 4 maps be playable all the time and be stuck with 1 garbage map, rather than see another mass exodus because the queues make EBG impossible to get into and the deserted bl is all we have to play on.This in no way means I prefer having 1 dbl.
Imo, 2 abls and 1 dbl is the best option they offered up right now. I bet you’ll be surprised at how many people(especially roamers and havoc squads) will play the 1 dbl. Besides the players that actually like the dbls, many players will use the dbls just to escape blob warfare, as there are quite a few out there that despise that mode of wvw.(IE, lower tiered servers that have been paired up with T1 and T2 servers. I know of quite a few on Kaineng alone that would jump at having a dbl map JUST to get away from blob mentality)
I primarily roam and havoc and you won’t catch me dead in that garbage map unless every other map is queued and I need somewhere to be until my queue for the others pops.
Those sigils of concentration are nearly a complete waste. Don’t get hung up on “zomg 100%!” I’m not sure what I’d replace it with. Maybe two leeching sigils for a little sustain. I’d probably go with the on swap wrather than interupt version though. Guess that’s on you to decide if you want reliability over high risk/reward based on the somewhat randomness of interupting.
Plate of mussel gnashblade can be found under others section of foods. With your high toughness it’s far better than 70toughness/5% boon duration.
I’ve been thinking the same with the sigils. I’m likely going to drop that for something like Fire sigil maybe for the extra AOE tags.
The only reason I took the 70 toughness food was so I don’t have to do more PvE to get the plater of mussel gnashblade food lol… It is the better option, I agree.
Ewwwwww don’t use fire sigils! Like get hydromancy instead, at least though can crit aswell as do something useful with soft cc.
For the food, realize you are indeed going to have to do pve (dragon stand) for both the commanders and wanderers. If you use command/wanderers trinket split you are looking at a total or 200 crystalline ore for weapons/armor/trinkets (x2). The food is 100 crystalline ore. So Ya total 300 crystalline ore. But the food, that’s like good for every Frontline (and some others like ele) and should be on your account if you like wvw in general (I used like 3x in one sentence).
I do indeed have both foods myself ;-)
I’ve been running the Bowl of Mussel soup on all of my front liners, I just can’t seem to get the time to get back to PvE for the other lol.

I still don’t know why anyone ever cared about this lol. #PPTMatters
They should have made 2 more options for the poll “Alpine only, don’t bring back DBL” or “DBL only, don’t bring back Alpine” to just see how this would go.
I bet you Alpine Only would be winning by a lot right now. I had to choose 2 Alpine 1 DBL because I had no better choice, much like so many others.
Updated the build, same link. Opted for staff over GS, some different sigils and changed a couple traits around.
