There is actualy an automated version of our Mortar in Firehearth Rise, as an inventory bundle, near Breakthoot waypoint when you finish the mortar event near Noxious Castrum.
Thank you for that, I’m rather impressed with it. It puts the rocket turret to shame. Has a faster attack speed and more direct damage with an aoe.
And from playing with it, it seems to only attack enemys that are attacking me. where my own turrets will fire on anything that has a red name. Tho I could be wrong about that.
I once read that to get the armor to look good on the norn male you need to choose the skinny body types.
I’m not a fan of norns so iv never tried it.
Meh, Would just rather have Motar become automated.
and have the bugs fixed and the turrets buffed with shorter cooldowns.
The basic stuff.
My new mesmer picked up a boulder and I had a meteor attack option. I checked to see if that was class specific or if it was a change I didnt know about.
Turns out elemes just get a second boulder throw ability with that item.
So… are there other bundles that differ based on class or maybe even race?
Your post would have been well-made if not for the fact that turrets are so useless. Engineers aren’t mobile because they are meant to be masters of zone control with turrets, according to you… And yet who honestly uses turrets and can do so while being as effective as other classes?
Thats my point, turrets are in such a bad state right now no one uses them, for good reason.
I should point out zone control isnt the only role an engi can/should do. Depending on your weapon, trait and utility slots you can have several different builds and playstyles.
I’m just saying that classes like engineer in game tend to focus on zone control and area denial. Much like how a warrior is always the up in your face hack and slasher, or the thief is the spike damage backstabber. In GW2 we can have a warrior that stands back and uses a rifle or bow, or a thief that uses pistols for constant damage rather than spike.
But it just so happens in gw2 that the “best” builds for warrior and thief just happen to be the in your face melee guy and spike damage backstabber.
I’m disappointed that the engineer cant really play how the class is often known for across the worlds of gaming, Zone control and area denial.
Having alternate playstyles and builds for classes is a great thing. Unfortunately the way I would like to play doesnt work, even tho we have utility skills and stuff that at a glance would suggest I could, they fall short, WAY short.
I’m not looking for “my way” to be the best way. I just want it to be a possibility when playing the game instead having utility skills that are constantly on cooldown because the turret died 2 seconds after being deployed. I dont care if it takes me twice as long to kill something as the better builds, just so long as I can use my turrets and stuff during the fight and feel like they are helping.
Im not a graphic guy, other than the tint changing it all looks the same to me.
Maybe he means that if your down leveled to 10 and deploy a turret its base stats are of 10, but then goes through its own downscaling on top of the already reduces stats from you being downscaled.
Wouldnt be too hard to test, get your lvl 80 engi to a starter zone, place rifle turret make a note of the damage, then start a new character get rifle and test again.
Interesting idea, a few concerns however. damaged turrets could be picked up and redeployed to heal them and turrets with slow attack speeds could abuse this to get a faster attacks off.
To fix this issue once a turret is picked up it would have to go on a cooldown, maybe 10-20 seconds something around that number so it would still be well worth it to pick them up, something turrets have a problem with right now.
Seems like a good idea, would give a reason to buff turrets damage wise due to the much greater risk.
By my self I play Prison Architect, Skyrim and some assorted Roms; mostly pokemon games.
I have L4D2, Cubeworld, and Civ 5 installed for when we have “Gameday” and want to play somthing other than GW2. PayDay 2 might be added to that list.
Been thinking of playing Gnomoria and Don’t Starve again, they get updated constantly and im sure theres alot of new things to mess with.
I keep seeing posts where people say Spirit rangers are OP, but iv looked at them and their traits, I just dont see what the fuss is about. I either need some gameplay to see what’s up or have some one explain it to me.
I have a question for you guys:
Would you rather have fragile but short cooldown turrets, or tough but long cooldown turrets?
If you compare any thing to the GS it comes up short.
I figured if they added new legendaries that I actually like I was going to go for one, but seeing as that didnt happen I’ll hold off.
Not going to bother with level up to 500. The skins look very ugly imo, only the pistol looks good, sadly the pistol skills on my engi are the very definition of kittened.
I would like to make a P/P thief, sadly they only have 1 useful weapon skill.
All-in-all, Nothing in this patch interests me.
I was holding on hopeing this patch would have a lot of balance and class bug fixs. Seeing as it didnt I think ill take some time off and play other games, Prison Architect has been pretty fun. Maybe go back and finally finish the Skyrim story missions.
Thats disappointing, Thanks tho.
Do we know what they look like yet? Iv searched around a little but so far no luck.
Forget karma jugs, this sounds like somthing that would be usefule when using the grenade kit.
And that would be exactly why they are not allowed.
Then they can buy me a new keybard when the number 1 key breaks because they couldnt be bothered to make an auto attack for it.
but srsly, making a freaking auto-attack for it already. This games designed around autoattack!
Forget karma jugs, this sounds like somthing that would be usefule when using the grenade kit.
Hey, I know very little about the elem, I created a post asking if I could focus into one element and still manage because I didnt know.
Maybe its because I main as an engineer, If I want to focus on grandes I spend most of my traits in the explosives trait line, If I use rifle I go into firearms trait line. So on and so forth.
Now, looking over the traits from the wiki page i notice quite a few say stuff like “when attuned to <element>”. Almost as if you have to be attuned to the element for the traits to take effect.
SO I say again, how silly of me to think you might beable to focus into a specific element.
Besides whats wrong with ignoreing your class mechanic? Warriors do it all the time and are better for it, same goes for phantom mesmers, and rangers are constantly asking to beable to not use there class mechanic.
Patience is a virtue, or so they say. Personaly, Iv never read about any one waiting there way into a history book.
Playing a class where you refuse to use 1/4 of your entire tool set probably isn’t the class for you.
The class has trait lines of Fire Magic, Air Magic, Earth Magic, Water Magic and Arcana.
How silly of me to think you might be able to focus into a specific element.
I dont think the cooldown is the problem, its how quickly it dies.
The timer is a penalty for letting your pet die, but sadly most content, say WvW, dungeons or fractles your pet can very easly be instantly killed.
Thats disapointing but truth be told I expected this answer when I asked.
Probably for the best, I could never find a weapon I liked.
These aetherpirates with all thier electric attacks been making me want to give it another try. So cruel they are.
Iv always been turned off of the elementalist because its my understanding that the elementalist has to jump from element to element depending on what they need at the moment. So water is for healing, air for swiftness and the like, earth for some defence and fire for the damage.
I hate that concept mainly because I dislike fire magic so much. Lightning is my favorite element then ice in second place. Sadly both get caste as support skills. So I guess its not the elemental focus shift I dislike but having to relay on fire for my damage.
Is it possable to have your elementalist only use one or 2 elements thats NOT fire and still be able to kill things in PvE?
I tried elem once before only got to level 10 or so, I may not be a mystic, but I could see where it was going. Now with my birthday scroll to jump me to lvl 20 I thought I might give it a second try.
I agree completely, this Live story with the crown pavilion, the invations and giving special bag drops to champions has turned the game into a massive farm/grind.
The only thing my friend and I have been doing the last week or so I going around doing jump puzzles for the achvments, and now the monthly. And we dont even like jump puzzles, but it takes too longer to get a group to do any thing else. At least we are working toward a them crystal skins.
We even stopped going to dragons because no one is ever there.
I really hope after this livestory comes to a close that the crown pavilion, invations and the champ loot bags are all removed from the game, never to be seen again. Wishful thinking right?
Its my understanding that the champion loot bags will have a chance to give you the ascended crafting mats. And here I thought the farming was bad now, after the patch its going to be horrable.
50% sits in LA afk, 50% zergs/farms/grinds. That’s GW2 right now.
Yup, this Queens Livestory has really messed up guild wars. Be it people zerging to farm/fail the invations or zerging from champ to champ in places like queensdale.
All in all ,for a game built with mobility as a focus the engineer is painfully static.
Games that have a class that focus on turrets make that class to be static.
Lets look at other games. TF2 is well known, This game is very mobile, you have people running and jumping and even rocket jumping all over the place. But then you have the engineer class, designed not to do any of that stuff, cant move quick, cant jump high. His role is to control an area and make it his. Often known as “Area denial”.
Lets look at another game, Global Agenda. This game is even more mobile than TF2 seeing as every one has jetpacks. Like before you have a class thats designed to set in 1 spot and control an area with turrets and buff stations.
These kind of classes focus on haveing a zone of control that hurts/debuffs enemys and heal/buffs allies. This is the kind of class I was hopeing the Gw2 Engineer was.
We have the tools; the healing turret, several combat turrets for different situation, even gadgets like mines and a bomb kit that all say “This is my spot, Get out!”
Even an elite that drops a realy built base on the head of our enemys.
Hey I dont make the rules.
Warriors are almost always the masters of melee combat.
Rangers are almost always the masters of ranged combat.
Spellcasters are almost always the masters of AoEs
Thiefs are almost always the masters of Spike Damage.
And Engineers are almost always the masters of Zone of Control.
Of corse this doesnt always have to be true. You could easly have a class that summons demons and demonic spires to function like turrets and healing stations.
But most game devs dont tend to be that creative, so it defaults to the engieer with his turrets that get the job of Zone of Control. Less confusing for the player base that way too.
To wrap up this rambling, Being static should be to the classes advantage.
This has been an issue in MMOs ever since they were able to incorporate jumping. Back before they could do anything about it, MMO mods and admins would just ban people for using the terrain to their advantage.
But luckly games have come up with different things to combat it. Invulnerability is a common one. But iv played games where they give all npcs a basic ranged attack so you are never out of reach.
Then another game gave the enemys a limitless leap so no matter how high you are they can still reach you with there melee attacks.
depends on which your talking about. The skill2 can now be used after an airblast as well as gained the ability to be manually detonated, greatly increasing its kill-ability.
If your speaking of the skill1 then no, the flame graphic still follows your character facing but the damage cone followers your camera. If you just hold right-click the entire time while looking at the target you will never miss again. You may even be surprised how wide of an aoe the flame skill 1 has.
If confusion only triggers once on multi hit attacks, so should retaliation.
and tbh, I wouldnt be agenst it being on melee attacks only.
Nice Review VIVorcha, Great job at poiting out the elixir flaws. All but the biggest flaw imo.
And thats; WTF is an engineer doing with magic potions?
Ok my hatred for these thing aside, once you add in the defective turrets and subpar gadgets its starting to lookt pretty bad.
Luckly engineers have weapon kits that are more powerfun than our real weapons. Then sprinking in an elixir or gadget that stun breaks and thats your build.
qezxc – Weapon Skills
12345 – Slot Skills (Healing, Utility, Elite)
F1-F4 – Class Mechanic
MouseWheel – Dodge
wasd – Movment, Strafe
Standard 2 button mouse with wheel. I almost always have right-click held to have my character follow the cammera.
Dont forget to factor in the large aoe. Its a rare thing among auto-attacks.
I honestly would be surprised if the pistol’s auto did more single target damage than the flame’s auto.
I was looking over the traits and noticed that Scope has been changed to give its the crit hit chance if you attack any thing beyond 600 range.
Make sense right? But the rifle skills dont reach that far even when traited. (save hit shot)
Pistols can but there cond damage, guess you can combine that for the conditions on crit stuff.
But I figure it would be most useful for kits such as grenades.
So picture that, Grenades with scopes on them.
—
yes I know this doesnt need a topic, its just the chain of thought lead me to grenades with little scopes on them and I thought that was funny.
So I really enjoy the idea of engineer, and the game play seems fun when I tried this class out. I am just looking for tips on the Engi and some pros and cons before I make my decision to lvl the class to 80. Thanks in advance!
What is your idea of the engieer?
“Masters of mechanical mayhem, engineers love to tinker with explosives, elixirs, and all manner of hazardous gadgets. They can take control of an area by placing turrets, support their allies with alchemic weaponry, or lay waste to foes with a wide array of mines, bombs, and grenades.” -gw2 description
If you like the part “They can take control of an area by placing turrets” then your SoL.
But if you like the “support their allies selves with alchemic weaponry, or lay waste to foes with a wide array of mines, bombs and grenades.”
Then you will fit right in.
I would have to go and see how I would redesign my build if this was changed. Befor I can say if I wold be for this or not.
For me, it might be a good change. I have a problem with the duelsist trait line because theres just so many traits that would work for me, yet I can only choose 3. Then other trait lines I have to spend 20-30 to get 1 trait that I want and strugle to find any thing of value among the left overs.
My ranger is norn, but only because I wanted at least 1 norn character and I already have 2 sylvar, a charr and asura chracter.
If I started with ranger first, I would have gone with sylvari. The racial elites fit so well with ranger. You can summon a second sylvari hound with your main fern hound pet, or a oak spirit to go with your small spirits.
The seed turrets also fit with ranger because he can control plants with his vine skills.
Only a few weapon skills really say norn.
We have builds that work, of that there is no denaying. My personal issue with the engineer is that I cant use a build that focuses on what I consider to be engineer skills, like turrets and gadgets. The only effective builds revolve around using magic potions and militarty weapon kits. Things I dont feel should have ever been added to the engineer.
Now when I say I cant use them I dont mean there “not viable” which has come to mean “Not as good as our best build”. I mean cant use in that my turrets spend more time on cooldown than out.
I really hope we get a bug fix and balance patch that breaths new life into turrets, but iv played enough mmos to know thats not going to happen.
I hate Quaggans.
I hate champion farm trains.
I hate the Necro’s DS, not because i find it hard to fight against but because I hold it responsible for ruining the potential of the necromancer.
I hate that the engineer’s main focus is using elixirs and standard military weapons instead of gadgets and machines like turrets or drones.
I hate that they go through the effort of making new weapon skins that no one gets to use thanks to the stupid RNG.
I hate Quaggans.
I hate that the warrior has better rifle skills than the engi and better bow skills than the ranger.
I hate people who exploit there way through dungeons.
I hate it any time some one says “Stack here”.
I hate that the elem cant specialize on one element and still be good.
I hate that the ranger cant tame the coolest animals like griffins, raptors or monitors.
I hate Quaggans.
I hate time gated items like charging quartz crystals.
I hate how damage is the only thing that matters.
I hate how bosses are immune to control effects.
I hate that “pets” won’t attack the large bosses like Claw of Jormag.
I hate Quaggans.
I’m sure theres more but im tired of this game.
Edit: Oh, I hate that racial skills have such long cooldowns while at the same time sucking.
I hate that elite skills are no more powerful than a utility skill but with an extra long cooldown.
I hate that all the guys that play female characters females.
I hate when people call there character “toon”.
I hate Quaggans.
Ok now im done, for real.
(edited by XelNigma.6315)
i’d like to see a heavy barrage of serious artillery skill, or even a rocket call on a location that do some serious damage it would be more fun that way.
Charr have a call barrage skill, but like all racials it has weak damage, super long cooldown and no range.
That kind of things is more fitting for a charr skill than engi any way because a charr has a warband with access to weapons of war.
Hmm guess iv never really looked at them background images before.
The turret in the firearms trait line looks deadly. And the crank gun in the inventions trait line looks killer.
as for the mask with the wrist torch the best we have is the Furnace gear.
I dont PvP, and Iv never seen a spirit ranger in PvE or WvW, someone care to explain how they are OP. Just by looking at them and their traits I cant see what the fuss is about.
So the fear in making racial skills equal is that it could make, say a Charr warrior better than a Asura warrior?
Well I say, have no fear. From what I can tell the humans have the WORST racial skills but about 70% of the population are already playing humans, and of that 90% of them are playing females. So as long as they keep having boobs every one will play them regardless of how good or bad the racial skills are.
And lets be honest, the ship of racial equality sailed back when they made a race of 3 feet tall people in a game where the major Endgame is large scale PvP (WvW). They may have a name tag over their head but there still a much smaller target and therefore harder to pick from a crowd and harder to see their attack animations.
I would like to point out that i find Sylvari the goto class for mesmers, the mesmer suffers in pve combat due to clones dying after there host dies and mesmers are light on the armor. The sylvari hound elite skill is a 60 second summon (longest of all summons) with a relatively short cooldown, the survivability of the hound is also great. I pretty much exclusively use this elite over all the mesmer’s worthless elite skills.
All but the norns have a racial summon, for me as long as the summon lasts long enough and can survive long enough to run interference I don’t care if one does more damage than the other. They do there job just fine.
In the end I am kinda torn, on one side I can see people using only one race for one class because it has such a good racial skill for said class. but on the other side I feel picking your race should matter a little more than just regretting you didnt pick human because you cant see your weapon (asura) or no matter what armor you wear it looks like crap (charr).
Ohh, What if it replaced your utility skills but with stronger vers that originate from the suit itself?
Such as Personal Battering Ram gets upgraded to a cone aoe knockback in front of you instead of just 1 target. Rocket boots would probably function as it does now, only leave a trait of fire a you leap. (like elem’s burning retreat) Stuff like that.
The Gear Suit (Love that name, btw) could vent the Elixirs as an aoe around you, much like the healing mist skill.
Not sure about turrets, its kinda outside the box but if they’re not already deployed the suit could mount them on it self. Something like for 20 seconds (cooldown of 30) the normal attack of the turret will originate from the gear suit. Like surprise shot, only constantly for 30 seconds. Wouldnt be as strong as having a turret out (no over charge), but the turret wouldnt be killable either. Maybe give improved attack speed or something to compensate.
If thats too complex the gearsuit could just come with the built in trait of Deployable turrets, and have a tube on its back where it launches them from. maybe deal damage when they land.
But the coup de grace, weapon kits would actually change the gearsuit’s weapon skills to improved vers of the weapon kits normal attacks as well as graphicly change how awesome it looks.
oh but the problem is all this just makes you a straight up better engineer, and most elite skills are crap, only offering slightly more than what a utility skill does.
So… forget all the upgrades, you just have access to all your normal utility skills and the base weapon skills of the gear suit take place of your normal weapon skills, probably genaric melee punches and the like, but you can use weapon kits to change (Flamethrower arms!). Stat wise the only advantage is improved hp and armor. But the Gear suit cant heal and it would use a separate HP like DS, and if it’s destroyed it explodes leaving you dazed. Open for whatever destroyed the suit to have a free shot at you. Oh and Elixir X is removed and Gear Suit takes it place. (lazy elite skill any way)
but thats still probably too strong.
kitten you Anet for setting such a low bar on “elite” skills!
I think before the mashup the engineer was ment to use knockbacks and immobilize combined with our turrets acting as “living dots”.
Maybe thats just wishful thinking on my part because thats how I want to play my engi… sigh, one day.
I would like a mecha suit. I think all games should have them. Still wondering why TF2 hasnt added one yet.
But… I just dont have much faith in the anet team to do anything right. The plan to have racial skills but purposely make them suck prove they haven’t a clue.
I got celestial because my engineer can make use of just about every stat. No matter what weapon I choose to use I still use power, precision, crit damage and condition damage. Being a close combat class I need vitality, toughness and healing to survive in between my cc or when enemys are immune to my cc (which happens alot).
Infact the only stat on the gear that I didnt care about was the MF, I learned back in my Diablo2 days that MF doesnt mean crap.
If your a lucky person like my friend Jelly, you can (and did) find a precurser off jormag after only a few tries and has only had the game for 4 months, but if your like me, some one thats had the game for a year and killed jormag as well as other boss events an uncountable amount of times yet never gotten more than a hand full of worthless exotics, all the MF in the world isnt going to help you.
Like I said, I learned along time ago that when it comes to Luck, some people have it, some people dont.
Maybe I’m just being cynical, or maybe its like that saying “Money doesnt buy happiness” the only people that say that are the ones that have money. So maybe the people that say theres no such thing as a lucky/unlucky person are the people that are lucky.
Every time I even suggest to do a dungeon legit or suggest not exploiting on some boss, I get people calling me names, going overboard on trying to justify or try to alter my perspective on what exploiting is. In the end, I cave. I pretty much have too else I would never beable to do a dungeon run.
When I was farming for the jetpack (that I never got) back in the Molten Factory the 2 most common exploits was standing in the corner during the trap room and stacking under the berserker boss so his attacks wouldnt hit you and he wouldnt teleport.
Run after run after run I would be the only guy standing out in the middle of the trap room, even when we had new people thats never dont the run before. “Stand in the corner, its safe.” they say every time and the new people would. Once at the end, after exploiting on both the trap room and the boss, one new guy actually said “Well, that was easy.” kitten ed me off so much.
But oh man did I love it when they all died on that boss because none of them knew how to avoid his attack once some one like me refused to exploit. Sure the fight was alot longer, but as long as I was having fun it didnt matter.
Fun > Saving Time
I even managed to get a few comments how people didnt expect an engi to be good.
I miss that dungeon. enemys with unique skills, manageable hp pools and a boss fight that was more than just avoid the red circles and DPS! well, its a boss so there was still alot of avoid the attacks and DPS but it was different!
kitten ourselves? I would kitten myself much more when replacing any of my valuable utility slots with a swiftness-only signet. Seriously… Mesmers have too good utility skills
I’d go with b), but I don’t like this idea…
Maybe as an utility stat for utility slots on ascended items
Or a tier 1 minor trait for all professions. And not one where the Mesmer has to have clonesI wanna say with absolute certainty, Mesmer have most trash utilities in every professions. Especially the terribleness of signet comes out on top. Mesmers are given to using limited utilities.
Maybe its a matter of play style but the only class with equally bad or worse utility skills is the guardian.
I look at the mesmer’s utility slots and I cant find a use for most of them. Again maybe its a matter of playstyle. Iv read a few posts where people say they just cant handle the engineer, its too much for them to figure out. But I had no problem learning the engineer it was all very simple for me. So maybe the mesmer’s utilities are good for people who understand them. I’m not one of them people.
I would like to point out thakittens a lot simpler and faster to trade out one utility slot for movement speed before you engage in combat than it is to switch out your off-hand weapon and your 6 pieces of armor to change from travel mode to combat mode.
Global Agenda’s autogroup thing. You just queue for the type of game you want to play and it picks like minded people and tosses you together.
So if I wanted to run a dungeon I could just queue for which path I wanted and I would be thrown into the dungeon with others that queued the same path. No more needing to go to a fan-based website to find a group just to be turned down because they only accept warriors and guardians.
I also like that the Engineer in Global Agenda had worthy turrets and even killer drones. Its a shame sci-fi mmos have such a hard time staying alive.
I just cant see the value in such a short lived stealth even to a group of people. You cant get very far and plenty of skills still hit you be they aoe or channelings.
Requiem is the only one to give an example of this ability being used to some effect. Maybe not 90sec worth of effect but still pretty good.
Maybe if what Nuka Cola said with a group of organized people to weave in and out of it to abuse the quick restealthing it MIGHT warrant the cooldown. Things on paper dont always go as planned once ingame.
Anyone willing to make a video where a group of people use Veil with devastating results?
