Feel free to label me as bandwagon. I’m the purest pve player anyways. My thought may explain why many pve players in BG enjoys the WvW and keep their ppt side strong. (No, that had nothing to do with gaming the system. We have the same access to WvW just like the pve players on your server. )

Or that back in the day when BG was the first to take down teq2.0 every pve pug ran to that server. Meanwhile in wvw they were buying up guilds to stay on top of wvw, more than any other server, while also getting players in past the Full server lock which was eventually fixed but long past too late(not that they were the only ones).

There’s a ton of active/sleeping accounts on BG, and the only people that are going to move from there are actual wvw guilds, there’s no point for a pve pug to move off of the top winning blob server. BG built a huge pug population in all timezones, it isn’t going away as long as they stay on top.

Which is why I proposed they create new servers for a new pool of wvw players that pulls players from the old servers, but these forums, just wanna complain like this topic.

State of Condis in WvW

There’s no condi nerf coming, expect more with the upcoming elite specs. There are still viable power options, reaper should still be one of them. The new Scourge elite specs seems more for condition builds with all the corruption and punishment skills.

I’m actually surprised anet didn’t add more conditions to the game, and disappointed they decided to dump so much torment on necros now.

Feedback on Beta Specializations

Necro: Seems like it could be good, but I don’t get it. There’s no death shroud. On paper, yeah, there’s a ton of boon corruption, really, too much. It’s overpowered. This could be great for WvW. But like half of the necro traits centers around death shroud skills, like gaining buffs or applying condition when you use shroud 1 or whatever. That doens’t exist here.

Some of these traits are the adept ones, so you can’t even spec out of it. They are basically trying to make the necro into a different class, and it just doesn’t work in the theme and traits. That’s very dissapointing. But the skills are ideal for large group combat. Centers totally around condi, so not much choice there. Again, dissapointed with that.

The new shroud f1-f5 skills is basically having shroud on all the time. Dhuumfire is used by the f1 Manifest Sand Shade, path of corruption is used by the f2 Nefarious Favor, etc. Instead of life force being your extra health bar, it’s now a resource meter to use those skills, and they now use the barriers/shields to help replace the extra life bar. The f5 desert shroud is the turn on shroud skill, when you activate it but it basically turns you into a short duration plaguelands, which I think speed of shadows trait should work on too.

A couple of the punishment skills feel good like Trail of Anguish which replaces spectral walk, and Sand Swell which is a nice little portal that can be used for quick bombing situations. The elite could use some work. Was surprised at the low cooldown for Nefarious Favor, and figure it may get nerfed to 8-10s instead after this.

Yes it was jarring at first playing this over death shroud and reaper, but I got use to it and really like using the sand shade for extra area control, and it was nice to have access to the “shroud skills” without needing to be in “shroud”. It really is a different and good optional way to play along with reaper.

Why testing on live servers ?

The only thing I am worried about is how will this affect the population status? Are anet excluding the data for these few days of demo or will they include them thus making servers temporarily full for a week or two?

Well if you’re so worried about that then do transfers now? Why are you worried about being full in 2 weeks? are you planning a massive transfer of imaginary guilds to your server during that particular time?

Only half the main servers are still full now, when a couple weeks ago it was all 12 anyways. Not exactly something to worry over.

Do you not know that relinking is coming? If the data is include, do you not know that it can cause even worse linking? Seeing that you don’t actually frequent the forum, I suggest you to read up a thing or two.

Do you think they just wake up on friday morning, check the data over the past week, and make decisions on links just off that?

There’s a spike of population this weekend and they know why, which is why they probably wouldn’t even consider that data, but you know the 7 previous weeks of data they have.

I read the forums and posts like these every day… unfortunately…

Can’t say I’m surprised to see that number, I was kinda expecting around 50k to be honest, given the history of this development team.

Now here’s a rule the developers should probably adopt some time soon.
There should be no possible way to hit that hard on any skill no matter what class or setup in PvP, period. end. of. story. Go hog wild in PvE if you want where mob health is in the millions, but not in any form of PvP.

Also if any player wants to defend this rere situation, if you want to play sniping with one shot kills, then go play Ghost Recon, that should have no place in gw2 at all.

15k max crit damage is where the line should be drawn on any skill, if the developers want to continue pumping out skills with redonkulous damage numbers and continue to flood combat with conditions, then they need to start looking at adjusting vitality and base health pools too.

New Elites - Create Huge Lag

It’s probably also because it’s the beta. I bet it’ll work better when it comes out all the way.

That might be true if this company used beta events to gain feedback, but they don’t. They use them to build hype. It is far too late in the development cycle to try to make drastic changes when they go live so soon.

There were improvements made to the elite specs before HoT came out, after the feedback from the beta weekends. Obviously the entire concept and mechanics of the new spec won’t change, but they have time to make some changes to skills and traits.

What they don’t usual do, is balance properly. 40k deadeye shot I saw, broken invincible shroud from underwater, only thing I could do was giggle.

Why testing on live servers ?

1. Testing on live is a good thing because you get to see the skills against current builds from Vanilla and HoT, and not just the expansion builds against themselves. Hopefully it will help balancing game wide, although personally I don’t have any confidence in anet’s balance team.

2. They will get much more players involved, more testing results done, more feedback given, on live servers than they would on a test server, for the simple fact that many wouldn’t bother downloading a separate test client (if they have to). We already experienced this with the desert borderland testing which was separate from live, the attendance wasn’t exactly great, not that there weren’t other problems from anets side of things.

3. Anet never had a public test server in the 5 years of the game, why you expecting one now?

4. Even if you do a separate test server a lot of stuff still fall through the cracks, the bigger the test pool the faster something may be found. Even a giant game like WoW still find broken stuff on live after months of testing on the public test server.

5. It’s 3 days, suck it up. At least you’re getting a chance to check out the elite specs, (which really is the only thing that will matter for pvp with this expansion), for free no matter what type of account you’re on. If you’re on the fence about getting the expansion then use this weekend to check out the specs.

6. They should have done the elite spec test with the pve content last week at least, not every pve will like the pvp only testing.

A rev hit me with cor for 6.5k+ and a phase smash for 7.5k…i have 2800 defence and only 15k hp are his hits normal for my amount of defence?

They can crit for more than your current hitpoints with trait setups.. so yeah that looks like a normal amount to be critting for.

Jesus you guys moan about queues every chance you get. Is there really any server still getting 4 map queues regularly,

we do. every prime time afternoon we get queues for all 4 maps for at least a while.
and if I understand tables correctly our server link fights atm in t4…. “dying”

So EU servers then where the links are mismatched, or so we’re told.
Cause ain’t no NA server pulling 4 map queues in the afternoon, don’t even think even BG pulls 4 map queues regularly in prime, been a while since I logged in there though.

Jesus you guys moan about queues every chance you get. Is there really any server still getting 4 map queues regularly, other than reset night which is expected and shouldn’t even be counted. People crying about wvw dying for years now and when they do stuff to attract players all we do is cry about it in the forums.

I think having to put up with queues while getting to test the new specs is ok, it’s only going to last for 3 days. PvE players will probably have friday to play, like 12-10pm est before reset. They probably don’t want to run the specs in pve yet because of raiding.

The important thing is to test all the specs, see what’s broken and give feedback. We kitten well know something probably is broken or not balanced right. Remember one shot gunflames and mesmer stacking invis for a minute?

For bards they’ll probably just give them Facets like revs herald and stick it on a mesmer or thief, since they like taking skills from other professions to make up the new elite specs. Hey at least it would give thieves a support spec.

I expect spellbreakers/warriors will be nerfed sooner or later, as they always do, so not even worried about them being top roamer.

Ofc they shouldnt.

We need diversity on game. We need a OP DeadEye, and a OP Spellbreaker. The warriors should come back to WvW.

No complaint about that from me dude, I’m a former roaming/havoc group warrior.
But no class should be “OP” as that kills diversity for roaming.

In any case it was something they had planned before release, it’s not like it was something that was begged for by the players and they caved in to demands after release.

I don’t think they have a problem with the way it worked out with HoT or they would have made changes, so they probably will continue on with this type of system into PoF. They’ll probably use another set of proofs specific to PoF so that players are not stock piling the proof of heroics beforehand.

Nobody knows for sure if they will allow WvW players to once again skip all the new content when leveling this new elite spec. As mentioned, when HoT first came out they forced the WvW population to grind the new maps with everyone else too but after the outcry they later introduced hero points that you got through leveling ranks.

It came out at the time of HoT.

Getting Hero points via WvW wasn’t available at launch of HoT. This was a concession given by Anet a bit later.

They announced they were doing proof of heroics on Oct 19th 2015, HoT launched Oct 23rd 2015.

Some newbie WvW questions

For any effective group fight you you will need some foundation classes to keep your sustain going in a long fight.

1. The core classes.
Guardians – The front line tank that has many tools to stay alive and throw support through protection, stability, shields, healing, cleanses, invulnerability, etc.
Elementalist – Can throw out boon sharing, healing, cleanses, and dps.
Necromancers – The main damage class simple because of their aoe options, wells, epidemic, boon strip, reaper shroud.
Revenants – Boon sharing support, or hammer spam aoe.
Mesmers – Time warp, veil, quickness and slows, but you don’t really need that many of them.

All other classes don’t bring much to a group because they are basically outdone by the other classes, including rangers/druids, thieves, engineers, warriors, they’re basically regulated to the pick team, pin sniping, or roaming/small groups. That’s not to say they couldn’t do well in a zerg group, but why bring a druid when you have elementalist?, why bring a warrior when you have guardian or rev? why bring a ranger when you have dragonhunter? etc.

Zerg play is mostly about hitting the most targets with aoes at the right time, while keeping up your boons/heals/cleanses.

Guardians, Elementalist, and Necromancers will probably always be the core of groups. If you plan on getting the expansion I would wait and see what the new elites are like though before using the boost up. We’re getting a preview this weekend.

2. If you don’t have targets and not on the siege, then be on the commander, be aware of your surroundings, keep your eyes out and learn from situations of where you should be in preparation for surprise attacks. Stay out of siege fire as much as possible or stay close to the commander who’s getting heals, just depends on your class.

3. Get on TS with the commander if they are on it, just to listen to their commands, especially if you’re frontline and support.

Glider poll for players here since launch

As a wvw veteran speaking on behalf of other wvw veterans I would like to submit a formal complaint that many many pve players have been voting in the poll, thus voiding the results.

Please restart the poll, and send an email invitation to vote on this to all legitimate wvw veterans, including the ones who have not played wvw up to 2 years ago.

Legitimate wvw veterans are those with a minimum of 1500 wvw ranks, any less than that and we risk the poll being polluted with votes from the new pve players who joined wvw recently just for the rewards system.

P.S that looks like a landslide vote to keep gliding in wvw.

A thought on new WvW legendary Armor

They just developed wvw only skins for us in the ascended gear, now we want to immediately trash that when we upgrade it legendary gear? Only reason I think it’s called legendary is the fact that it’s the only level of gear that can provide changeable stats.

Gliding, what a shambles

It’s a shame that they wasted development hours on implementing gliding when there are much bigger items to address.

Like what?

In no particular order:

Balancing of skills/traits for WvW
Server linking for population imbalance
Incentivize small group play rather than blobbing
No reason to win a matchup other than bragging rights

These 4 things, although significant, would be the things to address rather than implementing gliding and figuring out how to make it work.

As mentioned, the skills or class balancing isn’t really in the hands of the wvw team, I’m sure they can give input on skills to try and make some changes, as long as it doesn’t have a big impact on pve balance. Like the epidemic change. I believe the changes to revenants over the boon sharing stuff already did destroy that class for raiding, and probably something they won’t want to do often.

Population balance through linking won’t ever be perfect, and frankly hard for them to achieve since this is a game running 24/7 over many time zones. They tried to propose having more smaller servers in order to have more pieces for the link jigsaw puzzle, but the community said no. There is no other solution that will fix population imbalance for good, it will always be around in some form, yes even if you try to reset or merge it. The only way to control population is through smaller numbers or instances, but really we play wvw for the big numbers.

They tried to incentivize small group play with the desert borderlands, people hated it. You also cannot develop systems that punish players from playing together in a MMO, which is about all the players can come up with in their proposals. Everything is always just better to do with bigger numbers.

WvW started out about being the number 1 server, that fell apart quickly in the first months when bandwagoning took over from open transfers, plus the Titan alliance declared in the first month they had conquered wvw with like their 33-0 record with HoD. Population coverage and imbalances through free transfers and paid transfers destroyed that whole purpose, you were the top server only because you paid for it.

But what else can Anet do to provide a purpose for wvw? They were stuck on not giving wvw any significant reward because that always came back down to winning servers getting stacked and getting the most rewards, which the tournaments proved. They finally figured out how to get that working with the recent personal reward system through participation rather than server wins. You can also gain a lot of titles in wvw through their achievements, and wvw also has it’s “own” unique armor, backpiece and weapons now.

I suppose the only other thing they could do is provide more bragging rights with player and guild leader boards. At the end of the day it’s just an ongoing war, just play wvw to have fun in the way you enjoying playing it, don’t worry about server position, it’s meaningless and has been for years.

Gliding has been in the game for 2 years, all they really had to do was develop the territories and it’s permissions.

Hey guys, as most of your are probably aware, Scoring Improvements won over QoL improvements in the last poll. So now it’s time to delve deeper into what that means.

We want to improve scoring for a few big reasons:

  • Reduce the need for 24 hour coverage by reducing the effects of off-hours capping (night capping)
    • It’s not okay that the time periods with the smallest number of active players have the largest impact on the score
    • Of course we don’t want to alienate players who play during these period, off-hours coverage will still matter, it just will no longer be the primary factor in determining which world wins any given matchup
  • Reduce the number of runaway matches
    • That feeling of hopelessness when your team is down 100,000 points after a single day
  • Give players a real opportunity to make a comeback
    • Matches are often decided in the first few days, making playing in the final days feel pointless
  • In conjunction with population rebalancing, updating Scoring allows us to decide a winner of a match more fairly, and thus reward players more fairly
    • Currently we can’t give out worthwhile rewards for winning, as most match-ups are already decided before they begin

Next I’ll talk about how we plan to achieve those goals.

Changes to Match Structure:

  • We’ll split the week long matches into 2 hour time slices we are calling ‘Skirmishes’
  • Warscore is used to determine the winner of a Skirmish
  • Skirmishes award varying amounts of Victory Points based on placement
  • Victory Points are used to determine Match victor
  • When a Skirmish ends, Warscore is reset, but actual map-state remains unchanged

Benefits

  • Winning a Skirmish by a small margin, or a large margin, awards the same number of victory points.
  • This keeps the winning and losing scores closer together, allowing the losing worlds a fighting chance
  • Teams will still want to win as many time slices as possible, off-hours coverage is still important, but less dominant

Potential (controversial) additional change:

  • While the above change takes steps to bring the value of off-hours coverage in-line, there’s a good chance it’ll still be overvalued. If that’s the case (and we’ll eventually poll on this), then we have plans for an additional system.
  • This is the Action Level – Victory Point Multiplier system
    • This system would multiply the Victory Points awarded by Skirmishes based on map populations and time of day.
    • During prime time hours, the multiplier would always be at it’s maximum of 3.
    • During off hours, the multiplier might stay at 3 or drop to 2 or 1, depending on on activity level.
    • It’s important to include map populations as a factor, to make the system more fair for off hours players and its important to include time-of-day as a factor to prevent a winning team from trying to keep the score muliplier low by exiting WvW

Last Stand

  • Last Stand describes the final day of any week long matchup
  • During Last Stand, Skirmish placement Victory Points are multiplied
  • This is intended to make the last day of the match as exciting as the first, and provide a final comeback mechanic for teams that are behind

Reduced the Score Tick Timer from 15 minutes to 5 minutes

  • This will guarantee that every objective is grants at least one score pulse before it can be flipped by another team.
  • Objective Score will be reduce by 2/3rds since they’d be ticking 3x as often. This keeps the relative score from all sources the same.
  • Reward Track points will also be ticking 3x as often, and likewise be decreased by 2/3rds.

Upgraded Objectives Score Higher

  • Each tier of objective upgrade increases the amount of score per tick
  • The goal is to incentivize defending your upgraded objectives and assaulting opposing upgraded objectives

Points for Capture

  • Capturing an objective awards immediate score.
  • If the objective is upgraded it is worth additional score.

Points for Kill

  • The amount of score earned from PPK will be increased, so that it contributes more to the overall score.
  • As a rough number, PPK may increase to 3-5 points, rather than 1, with diminishing returns on killing players who have been alive for less than 5 minutes.
  • We will also rebalance the Warscore for Caravan Kills, Caravan Delivery and Sentry Captures.

UI

  • Many of these new systems and changes will also necessitate updates to the UI, to display all this new information.

Rewards

  • Once we have these scoring updates in, we can look at adding placement rewards for Skirmishes and Matches.

Whats some of the new things to come for WvW in Path of Fire expansion?

Elite specs.
Everything else for wvw is developed and released on it’s own time.

A-net has balanced the elite spec to fit a specific purpose, so the HoT elite spec will still have a role.

I don’t know how you can come in here and make a claim like that. All the specs from HoT also fit a specific purpose and yet they were all better than vanilla specs. Plus Anet does a terrible job of balancing. Highly doubt that’s going to change.

As mentioned in this thread, this is a social issue for players, not a technical one for Anet to solve for players. You pay for access to the game, you don’t pay for access and have the game force 20 players to play with you. Players have the right to play alone or with others, that’s why you don’t automatically join groups or guilds or squads when you log in.

It’s up to the player to find the right social situation for themselves.

Jesus, these forums are full of qq rere’s lately.

The thing that gliding does do is add some new tactics and surprise to the going around in a ball game we’ve been playing for 5 years, just like mesmer portals. It’s something new to learn and find new ways to use against your enemy, it also promotes needing more awareness rather than the usual look around the corner to see red names.

Obviously there will be growing pains and not every nook and cranny is covered, the devs at least had the sense to create territories that only defenders can glide in, not every border is going to be perfect so we’re going to have to point out bad spots to them.

Maybe they should create barriers along the borders of every structure so no players, not even defenders, cannot fly through them at all.

My effort in WvW should mean something after I complete the weekly tracks and I think this change perfectly does this.

I assume you played wvw before the reward stuff came in…. so what exactly did you do to make your efforts mean something when you didn’t have rewards to chase?

You can’t reward a casual WvW player the same way you would a hardcore player who puts a lot of effort towards the game mode. In the end, your weekly efforts will determine the rewards you get and I don’t think it’s fair to limit those who simply play more.

Casual players take a much longer time to earn tickets, THAT is the bonus reward veterans get, they earn the pips and tickets faster and therefore need to spend less time working on it for the week, that’s the whole point of handing out more pips per rank. Your time spent in the last few years gaining wxp is now a bonus.

Rewards have a cap, do them and go back to regularly scheduled ppting/ppking. If they don’t put a cap on tickets then you will have players WHO WILL gain multiple legendary pieces in a week.

That is not fair to the players in the other game modes who spend more time and effort to gain the same gear. Do you understand this concept? There’s a balance that needs to be maintained, you may not give a kitten as a player, but for game reward balance it needs to be done. If you take off the cap on tickets then they will need to raise the cost in order to maintain the time to acquire balance.

If you want ascended gear handed to you with no caps then go craft it.

I do think there should be a repeatable chest in the end, but certainly not for the same tickets as the diamond chest.

You guys realize if they open tickets up like that they would have to increase the ticket cost of everything.. by a lot. It’s a time to earn issue to go along with other parts of the game, especially now that we get the ability to convert them to legendaries for stat swapping.

Something to think about as you all keep asking for this.

That’s what happens when you pile everyone into the same areas for pvp, eventually people will need to buy the new expansions to keep up with classes specs gear features etc. Other games handle that by having the shiny expansion players playing in their own areas and levels.

Anet you need to consider balancing the game again before the expac. scourge at this point is just better at all roles than reaper.

That is the point. Do not forget that the only Anet goal is to make money. So they are going to destroy each pre Path of Fire build in order to force ppl to buy the expansion to keep up.

Yeah and we’ve already had one expansion as an example of this. They’re going to make the new spec better than the old one to sell it, since you can only use one elite spec at a time, they’re always going to make the new spec better to sell the expansions. No such thing as balance to old specs.

Did anet break the content guide? It used to be on by default for everyone.

Was gonna ask the same.
Although the guide on default I think usually shows personal story as a priority, if you set it to disable personal story it should show you the nearest heart to go to.

Maps like silverwastes run map meta events on a timer, pretty much all the 80 maps have it now, those maps are designed to be repetitive to keep you busy at 80. The lower maps are meant for you to explore 100% and move on as you level, the events in those zones are usually triggered into chain events, either you trigger it or it triggers due to players around.

Whole point of the game is to explore the zones and run into stuff, talk to the scouts around to reveal stuff before you get to them. But if you can’t do that then cheat I guess http://gw2.mmorpg-life.com/interactive-maps/

Or you could you know, do a finisher on them instead of hitting 1111111 next to them. It’s not enough that some specs can put a person into downed state in 2-3 moves now you want them to just instantly die. People wanting to turn combat into fps shooter style are playing the wrong kitten game.

P.S condition is a problem, but that’s another dead horse topic for another time.
