MMORPG: If a player feels that there is just no way for them to win a skirmish, they might simple log out and come back for the next one. Are there any plans for a ‘comeback’ or ‘close match’ reward to encourage players to fight to the very end?
GG: Currently, there are no ‘come back’ or ‘close match’ incentives. It is important to remember that the new system is based on War Score, which resets every two hours. Therefore, even if your team is behind in match you can still end up with top War Score for the current tick. The new system also gives a significant bonus to players when fighting outnumbered. This provides servers, with lower populations than their opponents, an opportunity to stay on par or, in some cases, even get ahead of their opponents with respect to their skirmish reward progress.
MMORPG: Will this update feature any new changes to participation that prevents a player from simply tagging one capture or kill and then walking away from the skirmish?
MB: Players have to earn tier 3 participation to start earning pips, which would not be possible to obtain by just capturing 1 objective and then walking away. We also increased the decay time on things like ruins in an earlier release, so players could no longer just go capture a ruin every few minutes. Also, actively participating in WvW will always grant significantly more rewards and will allow you to earn WvW ranks, which is important since some of the new rewards require you to be a specific rank.
MMORPG: With all the different voices that come to you about World versus World, and the diverse community, is it challenging to design updates that please the majority of players? Does this effect your release schedule much for World versus World?
GG: There are many different ways to play and enjoy World vs World. Many times that means focusing on various systems in World vs World, which can lead to longer development times, to improve the game mode as a whole. Our goal is to try to make changes that improve everyone’s World vs World experience regardless of playstyle.
MMORPG: With such a long gap since the last big update, a lot of people are extremely excited to know what’s on the table. What are the future plans for World versus World now that rewards are here? How will you be keeping it fresh on a regular basis?
GG: Keeping World vs World fresh is important to us, and we have been talking internally about what is next. While we can’t share any info with you just yet, we’ll keep everyone posted when we’re ready to tell you more!

Today, ArenaNet announced some sweeping changes to World vs. World in Guild Wars 2. We caught up with GG (Grant Gertz – Producer) and MB (Mckenna Berdrow – Game Designer) to chat about all the new stuff coming in the update (which was blogged about here), and beyond. Read and enjoy!
MMORPG: Some squads are Guild raids, and although a guild might have multiple commanders, only one is ever tagged up. Will there be any way for them to gain the commander bonus as well, whilst retaining the benefits like targeting and visibility that come from being in a squad together?
MB: We don’t have any plans for providing alternate ways of acquiring the commander bonus aside from actually commanding a squad. Squads and commanders are both great tools to organize a world for total domination in WvW. Both provide an important and positive influence, but being a great commander was something that we wanted to reinforce. Commanders are a critical part of the world bond that other players rally around and usually know by in-game name. With the commander bonus, we hope this brings out more commanders and that their positive impact is felt across WvW.
MMORPG: The question on everyone’s mind- with this update- the most important way to get your rewards is to win. Besides a short term lock out from rewards, are there any long term incentives to stop bandwagoning and server stacking?
GG: Winning will always help, but with the personal skirmish rewards, the important part is being active in World vs World. There are ways to earn additional progress regardless of your team’s War Score.
MB: We incentivize winning by awarding pips for victory, you can also earn pips in other ways, like commanding, playing on an outnumbered map (which is less likely to happen if you are on a stacked server), or having a high WvW rank.
However, it’s also important to keep in mind that you get the pips every tick and the winning pips are awarded based on War Score and not Skirmish Points. Every two hours, everyone’s War Score is set back to zero, and who is winning could change every tick, making a stacked world less likely to constantly win.
We want to make the moment-to-moment score feel exciting and important as a balance to the overall match score, so that players can focus on doing their best during their play session and over the course of the match. Since the rewards aren’t for winning matchups but instead focus on winning moment-to-moment, being on a stacked server is not as beneficial.
MMORPG: Will players who have transferred, either to be with new guilds or friends before this update, be locked out from rewards? On that note, what about players who transfer after this blog post but before the update hits the servers?
MB: You have to be on a world for an entire match to be eligible for skirmish rewards. That means if you transferred on Thursday, you would have to remain on that world the next day, Friday, and the entirety of the match that started on Friday to start earning skirmish rewards in the match after that. Therefore, any players who have transferred after the 26th will not be eligible for Skirmish rewards until they have been on that world for an entire match.
These transfer restrictions are important because we want to incentivize world loyalty and community.

I like the fact, that we now get our own legendary backpack and new rewards. The update seems good so far.
The only problematic idea is this point:

There is no need for tons of commandertags as it is not hard to find 5 people… That’ll be annoying as f*** for the actual commanders…
You can turn off seeing other commander tags if you’re in your own squad.

More rewards for more participation for the week. Kinda like what another game Paragon just did by earning stars for the week to earn better rewards.
Pips earned based on a number of different aspects is good. One of which will promote grouping and more commanders, the map might turn into spaghetti with all the tags around (yes I know you can turn off other tags). At least it should be a little friendlier to casuals or new players, as it’s difficult to get into wvw, much easier when you can do so with others at least. Glad they gave some thought to the outnumbered players as well.
Not sure if 3 weeks is long enough. Moving it to 2 months with the relinks could work, I could see only the merc guilds moving and not caring about the rewards as much, so this could offer long term loyalty to servers with the general population. But there was also talk about potentially moving the relinks to a monthly rotation, so maybe that’s why 3 weeks was chosen.
I’m glad they managed to work back all at once the triumphant hero and (mistforged hero weapons I assume) as ascended, and the legendary back piece, although I think the tombstone one would have been funny, but the big flaming war banner which also is a glider is looking nice!
Anet please don’t forget to run a promotion over this to pve land, much as you did when the spvp tournaments were ongoing, give a wxp bonus buff if anything for a week to get players to try wvw out.
Anyways mucho kudos to McKenna and team for getting the rewards done, while trying to make wvw more friendly to enter and play!

These forums make me facepalm so very, very hard.
We get exciting news: people have been asking for a scoring change, a rewards update and an improved UI in WvW for ages now. And hey, they’re finally coming! And what’s our response? A thread full of complaints.
Because these are changes that won’t really change much with current wvw. Were they asked for years ago? yes. Were they needed changes? yes. Are these changes that will stop players from leaving or bring them back? who knows.
I mean really, given the track record of Anet and rewards in general, nevermind wvw rewards(look at the weekly winning rewards), who here expects more than an extra bag of a blue item and a spike for a skirmish win?
These are changes that should have been worked on years ago, not when wvw was on the major fail highway and already lost more than half it’s playerbase. Even took them a year to even implement skirmish mode and then it’s rewards, that should tell you how much development power is put behind wvw. Spvp is receiving season 7 and automated tournaments, way ahead of wvw in development at this point.
Maybe ascended vendor will be included, which will also be a welcomed change, last mode to receive it but welcomed none the less, maybe it will even promote players from other modes to try wvw again, depending on how they are implemented anyways. I’m expect it to the hardest method available to earn. Maybe we’ll finally get our triumphant hero armor too.
A chunk of players have left wvw since the expansion came out, and one common complaint is basically the direction combat has gone with the revamp of traits, elite specs, conditions. Combat is the core of pvp game play, if that isn’t fun, you’re not going to have happy players, period. So it’s great rewards are coming, just don’t expect parades when wvw isn’t fun for a lot of players anymore.
Do you now see why Reddit is the go-to place for the devs over these forums? The toxicity is unbelievable.
That’s hilarious considering they never gave much attention the wvw forums from day one. They let the forums and the game mode slide for YEARS, how does anyone expect no one to be frustrated with that? Taking to walls is never really productive.
Personally, good to see wvw is still being worked on, however slow it may be, better rewards were needed for years now, despite what some players may think and receive in other modes. Doesn’t address the top issue with wvw these days, which probably never will be dealt with, not with the expansion around the corner ready to give combat another kick to the hoohoo.
With Anet confirming that WvW is getting its own set of legendary armor before the end of the expansion, it raises a few questions. How will it be implemented is one of the main concerns and how long until the next expansion, we talking a year here? Many thought raiding legendary armor was going to be released with the expansion and that took a year and a half to finish. Regardless legendary armor in WvW is certainly needed.

Really? I see lots in WvW every day. Not sure where and when you are playing but no matter the time of day I go in there are quite a few there in every map.
Yeah really, I don’t know what server or time zones these people are on, but there’s usually a zerg on every map, population is as it was a year ago. People just need to stop worrying about numbers so much and go escort dolyaks anyways.
Why let things develop that far to be cancelled? it’s like they don’t do long term planning.

Yea unfortunately I just don’t think they have the resources to support all 3 game modes. They’ve obviously made a strategic decision to primarily focus on pvp & pve.
They’re not focussing on pvp any more. And they have the staff resources, look at the numbers that have been given over the years. They are just hideously inefficient.
Yeah a good chunk of their staff have been on the expansion development since the last expansion was released. It does seem like a lot of bad decisions are made at management level though, making the work inefficient and wasted.
We were told even by Colin that things could be changed or cancelled at any time while in development, and why they can’t say anything about future stuff. Why let things develop that far to be cancelled? it’s like they don’t do long term planning. Like no one saw what would happen to living story season one after it was done? Their marketing has been bad, practically none existent for wvw, yet heavily focuses on spvp when they had tournaments.
They haven’t exactly been growing the game much, their sales are down so they can’t exactly afford to hire a bunch of people to grow the development side. Things are just settling on pve as the focus, living story ep 1-6, expansion, living story ep 1-6, etc, and I guess they will push that for as long as they can.
Do it when the 1up1down comes in, so two of those stacked servers stay in T1, instead of having them bounce between tier 1-3.
Population is down across all servers, a sign that what anet are doing is not working overall.
You’re not going to get an argument from me about that, probably down across the board including pve and spvp. We all know the many reasons why it’s down in wvw at this point.
Its not about servers thinking they should be in T1 its about having a sustainable population that doesn’t rely on 1 or 2 guilds which then burn out. Bringing the population down across the board just exacerbates these issues and leads to more burnout across the board. This is 1 thing that anet have never gotten.
It’s not across the board, the current threshold has only affected 4 out of 24 servers since it’s change, BG JQ Mag YB(for whatever reason they were full for a while). Every single time BG and JQ are closed we get players in here crying about it, one bad week and all of a sudden the server is dying they need to recruit more. If you hadn’t noticed the populations HAVE spread out a little from the T1 servers to the middle tiers in the past 6 months.
Meanwhile there are servers below you that operate with less population, with the same situations of a couple guilds carrying time zones. But who cares about other servers, just need more people to zerg (whoops meant populate) all four maps to stay in T1, keep T1 open!
BG and JQ seem down in population compared to old school T1 populations, and frankly that’s a good thing, because no one wants to super stack to take on servers like that anymore.
Thread about worlds, matchup thread, server reopening request, arguing world links, all the reasons to close this thread soon! and infractions probably will be handed out!

Just wondering what type of big changes are you expecting?
This is the wrong way of thinking about balance and causes more imbalance. The Dev’s have fallen into this same thinking too which is exacerbating balance issues. The one thing that creates balance is the map queues. We must have sufficient populations to fill the maps! The lower we go from this level, the more opportunity there is for imbalances.
Servers thinking they’re so important to be in T1 is why we have had servers paying for stacking for years. Lowering the threshold wouldn’t cause an imbalance, it’s eventually brings the top servers down more in line with the general level of population of the rest of the servers. “We must have sufficient populations to fill the maps!” and the other servers shouldn’t? Maybe try and wake your sleeping population.
Not that I was calling for the lowering, but it may just lock the other servers that probably shouldn’t be open right now. The current threshold only really affects like 3 out of 24 servers right now.
P.S I wouldn’t mind seeing Anet take this joke to the next level and take off the threshold all together, let people stack if they want, let them destroy T1 again, let them transfer back and forth, Anet would be happy for the extra gem sales.

More rewards for ranks? simply no, not when there are players who went to farm in eotm for easier wxp and ranks, wxp in regular wvw is much harder to get. Also the mithril and diamond rewards seem a little ridiculous. The rank up chest could probably use a little boost, but those two levels are going over board.
A wvw made backpiece would be welcomed, but it needs to be implemented a different way, not just by gaining ranks in the past, but from the work you do from the time it’s implemented.
I probably wouldn’t have a problem with bigger rank up rewards if eotm had never been implemented, but it was, and the ktrains rolled, and there are people who do have 10k ranks from there.
We’re doing poorly because BG recruited quite a bit and FC is a THICC link and the YB population is finally coming out to play. Showing the weaknesses with the link system. JQ experienced this a few weeks ago when we were paired with SoR and AR. The link system is a terrible system and needs to be reworked ASAP.
What other system would fix that? Anet can’t account for sleeping populations in any system, we all don’t know when they would return, if they return. Can’t really complain about BG recruit when it’s stated in this thread JQ just recruited 300 players a few weeks ago (an exaggerated amount I’m sure, but still). We could complain for them to lower the population threshold yet again.
Most times players will come out to play if there’s commanders around. We see this with DK or Cloudfly when they take a break, their followers take a break of sorts too, if servers want keep up momentum, gotta get more commanders out there.
Lastly there’s ups and downs with populations and participation, don’t know why people expect servers to maintain full service and high level of play all the time, just relax not like JQ is falling to tier 4, twelve hours after a reset.
Lastly, lastly… matchup thread.
Most of the “roaming” guilds these days are just gankers, either preying on smaller numbers, or pin snipers.

Because players don’t seem to want the big changes, they are highly resistant to it, so Anet won’t rock the boat, even the small changes they make gets an uproar.
Yes it seems complete balance was never in mind, it would be insane to even attempt to completely balance huge server populations between 24 and 27 servers, even early on they said night capping is part of the game so live with it. They left it to players to balance tiers, and the players screwed it up over and over again.
Links look like they will stay because players are resistant to every other method that has been presented, even a solution to try and make links better. The next step they could do from here is guesting to other servers. They also need to develop some driving force for players to play and win the matches, because doing it for your server or community has basically died off.
They really should run polls on this stuff, even if there some who say polls are useless, we at least should get some actual sense of what the entire community is up for.

Wvw feels bad because conditions make you feel bad. Every time I get conditioned dumped on I feel like I need to go take a shower, but then you get into the shower and realize you forgot to buy antibacterial soap because wvw doesn’t reward you enough, so you couldn’t afford soap that week. So you end up coming out the shower still feeling bad because you can feel the burning itch of that last condition on you, thanks burn guardian, or feeling bad because of that creepy crawly itch from the bleeding poison conditions, thanks chilly necro.

Well now you all know why Anet scrapped the battlegroups idea for links instead, links were the easiest change for players to stomach, devs also thought. Now they’re probably just sitting on links until the day players dwindle to the point they give up and finally all scream for hard merges or battlegroups. By the looks of this thread we’re not there yet.
That’s much more well thought out than what I’m proposing. I like it, though having special weeks would get more play throughout the entire week which is nice for people who don’t just play on Fridays (or can’t play on Fridays). I’m more just thinking something to change it up or bolster population once in a while.
I’m all for special weekly or weekend stuff too, like wow does with their weekly events for bgs, time walking dungeons, pvp. Or even the old system of having double exp weekends for certain bgs.
But like I said, good luck getting people around here on board for that.

Tournaments were too long and draining. Doesn’t mean they can’t do something. Bonus XP weekends would encourage people to jump in and either give it a go or try again. Put a temporary reward track that comes in every few months for the tournament claim tickets so people can get mistforged weapons, maybe make the winners of the skirmishes get a lump of the tickets as well. I’d still like to see more “golem rush” type weeks.
Month long tournaments that push us to play overtime to get the win is too much. Giving extra incentive once in a while to potentially bolster WvW could help though.

I don’t see how this would stop things like the tournament server stacking or old T1 match manipulating. Players have shown repeatedly that they will screw over anyone to get what they want. Showing populations would just make all this easier..
You also have to keep in mind the powerful motivation rewards can be. Something would have to be put in place so that new players just don’t see “more numbers=more rewards”. Why work your butt off doing small scale/more skill based stuff on a low population map when you can LOLstaff1 in a huge zerg for the same results? Past pvp seasons showed how this works out.
Frankly stacking is never really going to be fully fixed, there’s only so much they can do to prevent players themselves from doing that damage. The only other thing that hasn’t been hammered on is lowering map caps, get those stacking players in queues, and force them to spread out. The reward system needs to be mostly personal rewards rather than server rewards, most of the rewards you earn should be for your personal contribution to the match.
Tournaments are never going to happen again, players in here say they don’t want it, they don’t even want to look at other optional ideas for them, so it’s done don’t even worry about it.
The mockup of this is basically what elder scrolls online does with their wvw system (ava alliances as they put it). You are able to pick a map as your home map which gives you bonuses, but you can visit other maps during that time. Right now you are allowed to switch your home map for free, but they might start putting in a fee to do so later (they don’t have a lot of map instances available so it’s kinda pointless right now).
There’s 3 sides, you’re allowed to join a map of a game type, they have a few which are:
1. Level 50 champion points disabled.
2. Level 50 champion points enabled.
3. Below level 50.
4. Resource race.
The same could be implemented for wvw with:
1. Regular wvw as it is right now, PPTick PPKill PPCapture.
2. PPK and PPC. Optional.
3. PPT only from camps, PPC. Optional.
I would go with 1 and 2 for now.
In eso they only have one huge map to deal with, but with wvw in each of those game types you could present multiple map sets, so (ablx3 ebg), or (dblx3 ebg). How many map sets available will depend on the total population we have for wvw.
So here’s how it finally could set up:
A) You choose a side/color to represent.
(In eso this is already chosen for you as it’s sides by race, but you can enable playing on whatever side with an account upgrade). You may change this color/side for a fee (the regular 1800 gems once per week).
I would suggest they go with actual names and themes for sides and not just a color like eotm. Like for example Durmand Priory Mist Champions (Green), Order of Whispers Mist Champions (Blue), Vigil Mist Champions (Red).
B) Then you choose the map set that will be your Home.
The home campaign should provide additional bonuses for playing in it, for example 50% bonus participation points for your reward track. There should be a fee for changing homes after a grace period to allow players to settle into servers, but at the same time try to prevent bandwagons, I would suggest it be one of the wvw currencies not gems.
You can visit other map sets as your chosen color/side, you will not get the home bonuses. It should also be restricted to visit other maps at least once per 12 hours, like the old guesting feature they had for pve. You basically use this as an overflow when your home is queued and it allows you to play with friends on other maps. If both are queued then there’s eotm.
Group 1 – Regular WvW of PPT PPK PPC.
Zhaitan – (ABL/EBG) HOME (example).
Kekai Kotaki – (ABL/EBG) – OCX/SEA Encouraged.
Primordus – (DBL/EBG)
Mordremoth – (ABL/EBG) optional.
Jormag – (ABL/EBG) optional.
Kralkatorrik – (DBL/EBG) optional.
Group 2 – PPKill and PPCapture.
Grenth – (ABL/EBG)
Balthazar – (DBL/EBG)
Melandru – (ABL/EBG) optional.
Kormir – (ABL/EBG) optional.
Lyssa – (ABL/EBG) optional
Dwayna – (DBL/EBG) optional
EOTM will function as normal.
As for scoring you can already do the weekly scoring for the different zones, since we have the skirmish time blocks already you just need to add up the victory score of 3 blocks of 6 hours separately. So:
NA 8pm-2am est (this of course will be shortchanged in the beginning of the match since reset happens at 10pm est. but made up at the end of the match.)
OCX 2am-8am
SEA 8am-2pm
EU 2pm-8pm
That part wouldn’t need much to implement, the hard part with skirmish scoring and victory points are already done. I wouldn’t really worry about the rest like supply upgrades and siege, if a zone wants to help out their neighbor zone with those I think that’s fine in promoting teamwork for that side.
So it’s best to play when it’s fun and walk away when it’s not.
But it’s not the best for the game in driving away players, even if they’re just lowly wvw players.
But yeah it’s not going to change, because that would then peeve off the pve condition players, so either live with it or walk away.
Meh the biggest problem is the hit to small groups being able to take structures quickly enough, if at all because of watch tower upgrade and nerf to guild cata cost. Doesn’t matter if the upgrades are on auto or manual , when the two factors that broke small groups would still exist.
While the watchtower is a great replacement for scouts, it doesn’t take any breaks, it doesn’t go afk, it doesn’t go off to another part of the map, it’s radius is a little ridiculous, there’s no windows of opportunity to sneak an attack in. Hell it’s better than irl security, scouting heat signatures 360 degrees at once and even below cliffs!
Jade Quarry was never a tier 4 server, they’ve always been tier 1/2.
Yes certain servers need to be kept lock for the sake of some balancing the unbalanceable population balance, and to prevent the next bandwagon in the high tiers. All the main servers were locked last year for a period of time when links started, some think that was done manually by anet. But after a while most of the servers started coming off the locks when they fell below the population lock threshold, even blackgate and jade quarry.
The problem is WvW is not making money. Its one of the reasons its neglected. As long as you get exotic gear you can go there and that’s it. WvW players are usually not interested in PVE, they do not care about buying gold, nothing. The only way WvW makes money are the paid transfers when greedy players want to get to the top server which is more expensive to transfer. I do not expect them to change this cause at that point WvW would make exactly 0 money.
And why should they expect money to be spent on wvw when they don’t exactly support it much compared to the other sections, and don’t even add stuff in the gem shop for wvw players other than finishers.
Pve players spend the most on the game, because they get catered to the most with updates, content, and cash shop items etc. Not sure wvw makes exactly 0 money either since MO came out and said that they found that most people who wvw are really into pve too, so by their metrics there are wvw players doing pve as well and most likely spending money on that section.
What else is there to buy for wvw use? other than finishers and pushes to buy the expansion to stay competitive.
If you don’t want to play wvw anymore than don’t play it, why ask for it to be shut down? I doubt there’s a high upkeep cost since it runs on all the same servers as pve, all it is extra zones which are pvp enabled. They don’t run events, and the system runs on it’s own except for when they need to relink servers.
Once upon a time, pitched an idea to have the random world bosses in place of the wvw bosses like the grub, or the veteran mobs, or even smc lords. Would be cool to have any of those bosses randomly spawn (but not frequently), and rampaging through the map with all sides fighting each other and the boss at the same time.
My friend the game isn’t without flaws. It has a lot of room for improvement, but it’s a great company with a caring staff who really care about the game. There isn’t much of that.
If you think about it, most of guild wars 2 expansion features are due to players suggestions and ideas along with the developers ideas. What is the game lacking?? PVP, which I imagine will be fixed in xpac 2, and wvw which they said they will fix….soon.
As a wvw player I’m sorry, but I’m more incline to take a see it to believe it approach to gw2 now, as have most of my other friends. They didn’t say they would “fix” wvw soon, please stop spreading that type of false hope that has dragged along wvw players for many years already, keep it real.
The only things they have stated for it’s future is skirmish rewards and ascended vendor, maybe a new map may come in the expansion but given the response for the last one it wouldn’t be surprising if it didn’t. There are many other problems with wvw that may never be fixed.
Certainly will not recommend the expansion to a friend unless they are heavily into pve which I know is the only area that will be covered firmly by the expansion, even then it’s wait until you see what comes with it first.
“Wvw is a priority after HoT” was stated by Colin, who hasn’t been with anet for a year. Priorities obviously changed when he left and Mike took his place, we did get some QoL and scoring changes that were supposedly part of the package they were working on before. Plus links instead of battle groups.
Not that I believe wvw was ever the highest of priorities in the first place.

Mostly PvP/WvW focused: Are there any plans to change the way balance passes are handled in the future? Many players seem to be disappointed with the scope of the current balance passes, considering how far apart they are. It feels like a huge amount of skills don’t go through multiple iterations in more than 1-2 years, despite not being in a good spot in 2 if not 3 of the game modes, and the few that do often see such small changes that they would still be considered bad skills 3+ years later at that pace.
On that note, are there any plans to expand the skills team, or separate it into a full-time balance team and a full-time new skills/tech team?

Will you guys have more communication in the future for PvP and WvW? I’ve seen a well written post on reddit saying that you can’t pander to all communities within WvW, but he specifically said that communication is the key. I am sure that even mentioning that changes like ascended armor are coming to WvW will keep players interested and playing, despite the very likely negative reaction from the game mode not being what some people think it should be. People get their frustration out with whining :P Same goes for PvP.

Regarding asset allocation for WvW – This is basically me complaining about the state of WvW. You may not have said much but over time a lot of your situation has come to mind. To me it seems very clear that almost all of your resources are on the living world and expansion leaving nearly none to spared for current pvp modes!
You know this better than I do but I can only want more and more and more. Can a team be allocated to wvw/pvp just like raids was? Can there be smaller server only maps set on rotation just like world bosses? Can there be smaller like courtyard with stock match instead of point match? Can there be capture the flag or juggernaut? All of those questions I can only hope for an answer. Would having a team be allocated to wvw/pvp just like raids were strive towards something such as this be something you’d consider after the expansion comes out?

1, This is for the WvW team. So it is fair to say that Obsidian Sanctum isn’t as active as it used to be. Mag isn’t a t1 server anymore, you can see that in their recent performances, and anyone complaining must be a heathen kitten hurt over a tagless pug zerg of roamers running them over. They’re not “tanking” for 2 months straight.
JQ will need to maintain some population without it’s links if it hopes to stay on par with Blackgate which can still win t1 on it’s own, they’re currently slapping around t2.
Only server that shouldn’t open but might be getting closer to balance with other servers is Blackgate.

Only problem is having to level one character to 60 in order to unlock wvw/eotm account wide.
They probably should have just picked one of the dead servers and made all the free accounts go there until it fills up then mark a different server. After all it is suppose to be a trial of sorts and you do get the free transfer after you pay to upgrade anyways.
But yeah, many players have free accounts to play on another server and take breaks from their main matchup, or in some cases spying.
FYI…^One can not choose the server with a Play4Free account, which may be why those accounts get a free transfer when upgrading to paid.
@OP: Don’t forget about Server linking in WvW. Your worlds may be linked, and you may be able to play with your friend, (if in the same region).

It’s not going to be released anywhere but raids as it’s their prestigious item to have, if it gets released anywhere else they will brew up a kittenstorm over it.
We still don’t even have a legendary back piece to this day, hell they can’t even manage to put back in our mistforged or triumphant hero skins, things much simpler than legendary armor.

Being a big GW fan, since the beginning of GW 1, I’ve got GW 2 from the launch date but I took a long break after I played it for the first few weeks.
Now a few years later I want to go back in the game to play WvW with my friend. I want to join his server and guild, but transferring costs approximately 25 euros.
You have options here.
You only played a few weeks, if you don’t have any 80’s yet wouldn’t be that bad to delete the characters, liquidate whatever into the bank move and level, it’s a pain but it’s free. If you’re going to play with a guild it wouldn’t be as bad either, you can enter wvw from level 2 and earn tomes of knowledge for levels from the reward tracks.
Do you plan on getting the HoT expansion? instead of paying for a transfer, you can buy that on sale and it comes with a free level 80 boost. If you don’t might as well just start up a free account on his server.
I assume your friend has been playing a while, maybe borrow enough gold to transfer and pay them back later, multiple ways to earn gold in the game depending on what you prefer to do. Even just going around in wvw gathering mats along the way and breaking down all the junk loot, will get you enough in time to sell for a good chunk of gold.
P.S I do agree with one free transfer for an account and then the rest you charge. Many players I’m sure had no clue about the wvw and server relations when they first started gw2. Heck free accounts get a free transfer when they upgrade, so all paid accounts should get one regardless.

In HoT learned the glider mastery, it way cool, but if u already explored all maps, after much confortable if have a flying mount, what can learn example with the new expansion mastery.
It will be good some new weapons too, example 2h axe…
Maybe a new race…you’re confusing need with unrealistic want.
Mounts: we have waypoints
Flying mounts: would nullify the kites AND destroy the game
There’s no need for flying mounts, and in fact Wow has been trying to delay giving players flying in the last two expansions, and yes would take away the need for gliders, one of the main selling points of the last expansion.
Ground mounts however can be set to speeds already obtainable on every character 25% run speed(traits skills runes), or 33% if they have the boon but not every class has it. Waypoints will still be faster. Instead of running on foot, you’re running on a mount, and gives anet another area to flood release additional skins like gliders.
Please tell me how many different builds there are that people actually make use of in WvW, once you’ve learned what build they’re using, and with any bit of experience fighting in WvW, your going to know their rotation, their “Heavy hitters”, and what can be avoid and what doesn’t matter if your hit with or not.
The only thing that changes is if the person is good or bad, if they’re good, you can count on the fight being well, “Good”, you understand what they’re capable of, and address them as such while fighting, but if they’re bad, well, wake me when it’s over.
Like I said people change, tactics and strategy change with players all the time, guilds don’t run the same builds for 2 years, unlike raids what you get is what you get, they don’t change boss mechanics and rotations unless it’s needed which is almost never.
You will learn what a guild of players will do by playing against them often enough like a raid boss, but the serious guilds will improve and change, the gvg guilds are always changing their comps and tactics in adapting. No different than a raid group changing to try and adapt to the challenge, except it’s other players against you in wvw who are doing the same.
No doubt there’s more bad/lazy players at adapting and improving than good these days in wvw, a whole lot less guilds around, a whole lot less players around, very little gvging left therefore a lot less theory crafting going on, a lot less knowledge and training being passed around.
Oh and yes, ground mounts+50% movement speed, and flying mount + 70% movement speed
If will be do this, gw2 will beat every mmos in the world….
Not at those speeds.

In case you guys haven’t seen it posted in the general forums or reddit, the legendary armors in motion.
Most if not all of what you just said, can be said about PvE encounters, where knowing how a boss will react, how to deal with certain mechanics or mobs is key to making sure things go smoothly, knowing which builds and what the best group comp for a certain encounter is best, and understanding that if your’re not careful that even more mobs will be pulled, making it more difficult in the long run to progress.
The differences between WvW and PvE are not as black and white as people make them out to be, saying one side is more deserving or in more need of Legendary armores is ignorant at best, everyone who wants them, will work for them, yall, “Hardcore WvW” players, had to do PvE to for the most part, get to where you are now. So what if you need to get this or that for Legendary gear, those who want it, will get it, those who couldn’t care less will continue to play, and be happy with what they have.
Except with mobs they have a set amount of skills, some even trigger on certain conditions, once you learn their mechanics there isn’t much that changes, once you gain the knowledge to beat the encounter the challenge is gone. It’s always 10 vs a raid boss.
Meanwhile people can change, tactics and strategy can change, there’s more randomness present in any wvw fight than a raid fight, with pugs and seige, the numbers an enemy side has, various skills levels of players present and coordination in using skills properly like condition cleanse, bombs, stability rotations etc, also contributes on the outcome of fights. Those conditions change in just about every single encounter.
That’s not to say wvw is more “deserving” of legendaries. The only issue is they built 3 distinct end game areas to play and yet don’t develop or share rewards equally for them, there are players who came to the game just for one maybe two of the modes, but for the most part everyone gets shoved into pve for the major rewards.
Maybe they give up and just focus on PvE and new expansion?
Or maybe secretly work on GW3 with Unreal Engine?
I’ve been seeing more “gw3” references lately. I don’t think they are working that at the moment, most of their focus is on the next expansion, they don’t have the dev power to work on two projects like that at the same time. I believe when they switched to working on gw2 they had stopped with the expansions for gw1? Also highly doubt they would include another wvw into gw3, instead focus on pve and a little something on the side for pvp.
I’m sure Wvw currently is all we are going to get, and unfortunately it will continue to die because they don’t have solutions that will please everyone, they make no effort to grow it, they’re also afraid to do revamps to the systems in place, like the alliance/battlegroups would have done.
They haven’t even bothered to give wvw it’s own legendary back piece which is much simpler to do, why would they give wvw it’s own legendary armor set lol.

WvW was the selling point of GW2 not raids but there more work being put into raids. Anet realty lost there way.
“A” selling point, not “the” selling point. This game was always about pve first. Believe me I don’t agree with them building 3 major end game content area in pve(dungeons fractals and now raids), spvp, wvw, and basically only bothering to support one fully, one partial, and one barely. It has been a waste, don’t expect them to change.
