North Keep: One of the village residents will now flee if their home is destroyed.
“I knew it, I’m surrounded by…” – Dark Helmet
Don’t you think that will just allow Server A to nuke all 20 of you at the same time, still with 3x more power than you have? They’ll still be 60 people fighting 20 and you’ll still be 20 fighting 60.
Not to mention it would definitely push the meta to pirate ship again with the added bonus of long range siege wars. But apparently he thinks 40 people will die on first push and transfer off. Sure that might happen, what also might happen is those 20 skilled fighters might just be fighting 20 other skilled fighters who are surrounded by 40 pugs and would only take a couple more aoes from them to help wipe the 20.
Lastly unlocking the caps would probably blow up the servers. Conditions and boon calculations are already pushing the server lag to unplayable with just 5 targets, now imagine 20 or 50.
The boon sharing era was all about melee trains and basically no back line.
You want to go back to that boring game play?
There needs to be a balance for both melee and range. Now you have necros necros necros necros some dh and some ele…Oh yeah such healthy and fun gameplay.Stand around kiting and throwing condi bombs forever with no melee pushes.but im sure all you condi spammers absolutely luv this gameplay, its very skillfull and such.
Heh Scourge are not even in the game yet.
Dunno what server you’re on, or maybe you’re just following pug blobs, but there’s still effective front line and pushes happening.
Some of you are completely delusional.. Blackgate had 3 guild groups running last night. KnT (over 30 in discord) – KiS (over 30 in BG ts) – CL (over 25 in discord) + whatever pugs were following them. BG had about 2 queues last night. Every so often a 3rd map would queue up but it’d generally go away instantly.
This is from the biggest server, just imagine how it is on the rest of them with smaller population.
So many dumb post in this thread.
BG didn’t play by the “rules” when they bought entire guilds and snuck them through the server lock back in the day when it didn’t exactly fully lock 24/7 as it does now.
HAHAHA it would took 6 of us BG to take an entire BL hahahahah, yeah geniuses, that means you know they actually have less players than you.
But BG gets double teamed! ……. it’s a god kitten 3 way battle someone is always getting double teamed kitten . The biggest team should be getting double teamed, even if this game doesn’t bother to support that in scoring.
Mag for the most part does not like desert borderland, you won’t find many groups willing to come and defend it all the time. Make fun of that however much you want, SMC is the quickest way for them to attract fights, it’s the light bulb for you skeeters to fly to and get zapped, a lot of times they do this without even a commander around. It’s amazing some of you still don’t get it after years of telling and showing you this.
You cannot suggest blowing up servers as it will affect pve accounts SO STOP SUGGESTING THOSE RIDICULOUS IDEAS because Anet will not do it.
There needs to be separation from pve and wvw players, make a second set of “servers” or as Chaba put it Battlegroups, which WoW also did for it’s pvp section for years, to fill up with wvw players and leave the base servers alone. I think some of you are unwilling to look at anything else because all you want is for BG to crash and burn into oblivion, instead of actually looking for balance, because you know there’s 23 other servers to deal with and BG players will just pick another server to jump to in mass.
The boon sharing era was all about melee trains and basically no back line.
You want to go back to that boring game play?
There needs to be a balance for both melee and range.
They should just close this subsection of the forums down.
You mean people would rather play for 3rd to get out of t1.
Military deployments typically last 6-18 months. So kick people off servers while they’re serving their country?
the hell do I care WHY they’re gone, its still a slot not being used that they’re holding up. You can dress it up as “serving their country” I dont give a kitten lol. Take your military worship somewhere else, some people don’t care about it (they’re kitteners paid to do a job.).
A wild accusation has appeared!
They’re not taking up a slot if they’re gone, since they’re not counted towards the activity check which dictates if a server opens or not, not how many are actually on the server.
What may be the real issue of late is that BG has a very sizable PVE population. As in really huge group of PUGS that have now decided that they want the new WvW shiny. So they log in and bounce around maps to keep their pips up. Usually an unorganized group about the size of a traditional havok squad. When I roam on my thief to cap camps I almost always see 3 or 4 BG’ers already there just waiting for the timer to expire.
While this may seem like a concerted effort by BG to stack, it’s probably really just a bunch of PVE’ers tying to keep up their pips to get their latest shiny. Not sure why this is unique to BG, but it may be that our already sizable WvW population which was #1 prior to the updates (although nowhere near what it was a couple years ago), combined with the new people entering WvW, has tipped the balance.
I was on BG for over 2 years, this guy nailed what I saw there perfectly. BG is just a kitten ton of hibernators and casuals that peek in WvW when news or updates arrive.
Plus no one remembers when BG is losing…we were pretty consistently getting 3rd place for like 6 months a while ago? All you ever hear is BG stacking like winning even has any good rewards to it.
Even with BG closed for like 99% of the time the past year they’re still bigger than every other server. BG’s pug population was basically forged back in the day they were beating up on Teq 2.0. Those players are still on BG and will probably never leave because there’s no reason to.
For pve they have megaservers, for wvw they have a server that has the biggest pug population around the clock still, and they don’t have to care what place the server is in because rewards are mainly earned from participation, rank, and skirmish placement, weekly placement has no affect.
So no reason for them to move, they just need to earn pips and ppt which is close enough to pveing, better for them to be in the biggest server and run in groups that are often than not bigger than the opponent. Actual wvw players there have a bigger than other server populations to work with, not much reason for them to move either unless they’re a fight guild.
The only thing servers can do to BG at this point is just not play them, bore them to death, take the week off and let them run around to paint everything green and then trying to keep their participation up. But no one is going to do that so BG will just chug along running over servers until server/population structure is changed.
We will be adding a new currency that is similar to Proof of Heroics that will allow you to buy new sigils, runes, recipes, and hero points from PoF.
This is info we could have got a bit sooner. I have stacked over 4 k of proof the last months when i could have picked other rewards because i wont need as many :/
I’m sorry but it was kinda obvious they wouldn’t allow proof of heroics to be the same currency for the new stuff. Haven’t you seen how they operate by now? They always create new currencies for new stuff so that you don’t horde and get stuff right away from release. Why do you think we have proof of heroics instead of like badges as a cost for HoT stuff?
Hibernation: keeping an account inactive for multiple weeks from WvW.
Has been a tactic used by servers to allow guilds to access ’full’’ servers.
Also an issue when new content comes out it impacts population balance significantly.
I would suggest we remove server affiliation from any account that has not been active as defined by accumulating any participation in WvW for greater than 6 weeks.
These accounts would be required to choose a new server from among the open server lists when attempting to access WvW again.
It would place increased challenges on active hibernation (organized effort to open a ‘full’ server) and it would significantly reduce the potential disparity with accounts that only play WvW around new content.
If They aren’t contributing to their server or community for 6 weeks or more, then they should not be affiliated with that community.
You want them to do this with the current server structure? the one that has 10+ servers locked regularly? Don’t even think they have the means to lock an account out of wvw for the server it’s currently residing on, and then have to build an automated system to do the transfers.
Not to mention how incredibly unfair for someone who picked their server on account creation, and were on it the entire time, take how ever long off and now they get booted to some other server because people decided to bandwagon to theirs.
Lastly I can see people taking 6 weeks off just to get a free bandwagon transfer.
There are people that complained about queues on FA, you’re unlinked which would help with that problem, don’t come in here now complaining about not being linked. You’re not going to get the perfect full server with no queues.
Deal with it.
To which servers? some tend to not open very often.
But yeah seems to be at least a weekly check usually around monday/tuesday.
Guess “elitists” want to know as many details as possible in order to prepare for the expansion
Or, they would just like to know that the countless hours they have spent thinking about and suggesting improvements have even been read and the numerous bugs and crazy OP/UP things in PoF are being actioned. Or that anything at all is happening. It’s the simple things.
Nah they just in the backroom sipping coffee for 2 weeks until the expansion comes out.
I mean, what else do you think they’re doing every day? It’s crunch time for them, we don’t need bullet points of their day to day workings what is being looked at and what isn’t.
The zones are most likely done, the classes are done, at this point they are obviously working on bug fixes and adjustments to classes. Some things probably won’t get fixed before release, just keep submitting bugs and forums posts until it is.
ahh.. people that say Rangers aren’t useful in a zerg just don’t know how to play Ranger/Druid imo.
A havoc team is a better place for a Ranger after all is said and done, and/or roaming.
…
..
.
I mean…
that’s what everyone else is saying….
I honestly don’t understand why, I mean does it really matter what class someone plays as long as they follow what the commander says and stick to the objectives?
What exactly are the “issues”?
Yes in a coordinated group, no in a ktrain zerg.
Group play is more important to commanders, as in being able to provide the needed boons and heals to your group, and being able to aoe. Which both rangers and thieves lack(but druid! no, but tempest!), and classes like guardian elementalist necromancer revenant have a place for.
Not really a fan of outright disabling things because a side is winning, less power sure, but not disabling.
SMC to me for the most part is fine the way it is, it’s basically a “king of the hill” game mode on the map. If you can’t take it yourself, then learn to double team it. The point of that structure IS to give an advantage to the side holding it.
I hope you realize, if the dominant server is holding it so well to t3, they probably have the power to take all your stuff without needing the siege from smc anyways. Which they most likely do when you setup trebs to hit SMC, eventually that structure will get taken to stop the trebs. SMC is also usually open somewhere, the 3rd floor trebs can be taken down with just an ac under it.
The orb was taken out because of fly hackers, not because a dominant server had the advantage, otherwise they wouldn’t have brought back bloodlust.
The problems of a dominant server lies deeper than smc, bloodlust and tactivators, and that is having greater numbers than you more often than not.
At least you guys have less queues now.
Honestly.
The simplest way to balance WvW, would be to not have WvW tied to the base servers.
Have a completely separate set of WvW servers people could join, that would fill up on their own, but only with people actually interested in WvW.
And cycle people out of the server if they become inactive for more than a month. (Or, perhaps, reset the populations of each server entirely annually)
Issue is, while this would be balanced, it would also make people pretty mad. What with the difficulties of swapping servers and all.
Since a very long time the pve population of a server doesn’t count for the wvw server status. So we already have what you propose.
It isn’t only about counting population, it’s about having the active players joining and being able to spread them out. It’s a way to try and get pug accounts spread out and not just sleeping on servers.
With the wvw only servers you get a lot of options to work with here.
1. You get the “blowup” option to basically reset servers and spread players around.
2. You get to set server population caps lower to start to spread players out, I’m sure anet has the numbers on active players and can set an appropriate bar.
3. With the activity check you will be booting the inactive or sleeper accounts and make them choose a wvw server again whenever they decide to return. 4-6 weeks seems appropriate.
4. No more links.
5. You can assign 3 or 6 servers as ocx/sea populations, which will always be fighting each other, this will be a place for them to regularly find enemies as those populations are currently small and spread out over 24 servers. Even implement the “controversial action level system” and set the off hours which would be their NA times, to very low scoring as a way to dissuade bandwagons to their off hours.
6. Every 2-12 months you can reset the wvw servers, players choose a server again, this is a way to shake up populations, a way to destack and break up bandwagons that build up, allow anet to readjust the starting population caps. This is a very low option, as it’s would further disrupt building “server community”.
7. They can design the servers to have themes like gods and elder dragons, so that the community can build around those instead of just a server name as it currently is.
8. With wvw only servers they can do stuff like population resets, lower or raise population caps, assign different rules, they could even go on to doing other stuff like assigning servers for different rules like the ocx/sea servers option, they can do 3 servers for ppk only scoring. All that and not interrupt the pve population or original servers.
9. Wvw haven’t been about “who da best” ranked server in years, t4 doesn’t care to play in t1, t1 has been broken for a year now, we don’t need straight blanket rules for 12 servers anymore, not exactly a competition and hasn’t been since like year one. With wvw servers they have a way to start applying options to expand on wvw and it’s game play.
Other games like ESO have this running already.
When you start ESO you create a character, the race you choose is assigned to one of three factions. When you enter their wvw you first choose a campaign/server to join, they have like 4 types with different rules, like under 50, fully champion points, no champion points, resource scoring only.
tldr don’t care if you didn’t read.
And then we get people coming back in here complaining
“OH NOES WE FIGHTING THE SAME SERVERS FOR 6 WEEKS!!!!111!! DO SOMETHING ANET!”
They can’t win with you all either way. Even if they implement the “imaginary magic way for perfect matchups”, people would complain.
Spvp kind of broken like that there realty no def gear. As this is wvw talk not as big of a deal.
Regardless of it being spvp or wvw, my issue what that is players have the potential to hit that hard, basically 4-5x as much as a normal player would have. Why is there no cap for player damage? Are we really ok with them implementing skills that can hit harder than a players health pool?
Called block and reflection. The dead eye more likely to kill them self.
Yeah every class has access to block and reflection…. …
The fact that people want to turn this game even more into a first person shooter makes me laugh, how low combat has come in this game.

Where is the OP’s uproar at the video showing a thief hitting another player for over 100k damage?
?
Nobody has 100k hp
There’s been some uproar over that hit and for the many others in the 40k range.
Heheh for years other classes get to spam out boon sharing stability, protection, resistance, regen, healing to the point that it went overboard. The moment necros finally get to support with barriers, NERF IT!
Frankly I was kinda surprised it was made a group cast instead of personal shielding, as I figured it was a way to give necros that extra shielding they lost from going into shroud.
Anet wants to build combat to be boons vs conditions, with more emphasis on conditions and corruption this expansion, I think they felt they needed another type of protection spell like resistance.
Don’t think we would see 40 necros raids much, as not everyone wants to play them, elementalist were pretty op back in the day, did you see 40 man elementalist raids regularly?
But don’t worry I’m sure Anet will nerf the barrier in a hard way, as they’ve turned their two elites into garbage already and nerfed one of their main shroud traits, shouldn’t be hard for them to do.
So many commander tags out there and we need more inexperienced pvers to tag up in wvw all for a really hard to get legendary back piece NOT! Anyone that does wvw and has a commader tag can get it. It’s not exclusive in any way so stop making out like it is seriously. Good on op for not wanting a commander tag and standing up for something they believe in.
So you prefer they had made that part a pure 300g sink into mats then?
You have not read my post properly because your only thinking about mats. The op does not want a commander tag . Commander tags can be used in wvw, pve and pvp game modes. When you have to make the pvp and pve back piece do you have to have a commander tag for them . No you don’t. Instead of a commander tag it should be replaced with a wvw trophy that you have to buy with say 100,000 badges. It would suit wvw players more than a commander tag that every game mode has and wvw players would have something to work towards. It would also give badges another purpose. Also i have a commander tag that i bought for 100g not 300g 5 years ago.
Had a reply written up but yeah.. not going to bother..
also u have no stability and no condi removal with that scourge zerg..
any decent fighting group would just cc you and bomb you while u cant even cast ur barriers.
They’ll just have to start using Well of power.
I’m also quite fond of snowy areas, with the exception of every dredge area (I loathe industrial themes and find them totally out of place).
I like snow and hills, mountains, forests. Those always feel soothing to me, with special thoughtful fondness for the forest NW of bitterfrost frontier, and the hot springs SE of bitterfrost, or W of wayfarer’s foothills. Even all the Jormag’s corruption areas are fine for me !
I don’t like industrial areas (dredge, charr), all desertic/wasteland areas (dry top, core Orr maps mostly, partly Ascalon). Those feel flat and boring to me. Nothing to see, nothing to feel. Desert…
Exactly this for me as well. I really hate desert maps.
next time pick either server up against BG.
they will need the help and you can see the problem with one over-stacked server….
Isn’t there a dev that regularly plays on YB already, unless they stopped the last couple months.
There were/is 2 in the same guild. That isn’t the same as an entire group of anet peeps playing. On a side not, it is fun when they do play as others don’t get focused……
Yeah I guess a bunch of random devs playing 1 hour on your server once every 6 months would have a better idea of what’s going on with your server than a couple devs playing on it every week.
Ascended trinkets drop pretty much every day in WvW.
How many ascended trinkets have dropped for you the past 30 days?
I got like 10 rings and 2 ascended armor chests. You get that stuff alot from reward tracks and the pip-chests.
You must have bought some magical unicorn horseshoes from the gemstore, cause that’s probably a years worth of playtime not 30 days.
Ascended trinkets drop pretty much every day in WvW.
How many ascended trinkets have dropped for you the past 30 days?
Mostly its coverage problems, it feels like ANet pairs servers with same coverage timezone, but on match each color/faction/side ktrains at diferent times.
Something feels messy, its either get outmaned 1 blob or blob the others..
Because they don’t look at coverage but total activity of the server when linking servers. Trying to match servers by activity and coverage would promote even more lopsided links, since the off hours players like to stack on a couple servers in the first place. Maybe if the community had allowed them to create more smaller worlds to have more pieces for links they could have made it work with that.
There’s no reasonable way for them to match every link and every server in tiers by exact coverage and activity and even language for the EU side.
But opening servers and lowering map caps would simply explode the queues. We have already queues in every map, could take 15-20 minutes to even enter WvW. Why would you want to make players wait for 3 hours just to play WvW?
Sure, if every day resembled reset night, which it does not.
Just reopen all the servers for a week, lower the map caps by another 5-10.
If people want to transfer up into queues then so be it.
“Winning” is quite meaningless these days, as all the rewards you get are from just playing the week for participation.
next time pick either server up against BG.
they will need the help and you can see the problem with one over-stacked server….

Copy ebg, turn it into a winter map, and make it max level 79.
Attach it to eotm and it’s player pooling, so all tiers can fight each other whenever.
(edited by XenesisII.1540)
I’m sure you already know.. you can claim from anywhere on the map, and if someone caps a camp and have no guild tag, there’s no queue to claim. So probably just a coincidence you seeing the claim while the unguilded ele left.
Relinks just happened, need a couple weeks to move servers to their rightful spots, nothing new here. Do you think this is suppose to happen instantly as soon as the servers reset?
Damage, conditions, and auto procs overall have gone up since HoT, it’s going to get worse again with the new elite specs, meanwhile health pools haven’t changed. If anyone believes it’s not an issue, well then might as well go all in, and I hope they keep the 100k+ damage that deadeyes are capable of, and scourge keep all their corruptions.
Unlink the EU servers so the rest of us can stop hearing about EU complaining about links every single time it happens.
How is that derailing the thread?
I meant my post, anet always seems to tag me for derailing post, even some serious ones, hence my sig.
Edit:
LoL I can’t even post in your thread Jayne, telling me it’s over 7 days old, lol oh well time to derail this thread more, thanks anet awaiting derailing infraction warning.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Is-there-no-close-matchups-anymore/first#post6566889
Dynamic map caps has been suggested many times, but forcing players to leave maps to eotm for a magic find buff? won’t go over well with players sorry, especially if a commander is one of those that are randomly ported lol. 10 people logging out of wvw to boot 20 enemies would be some nice trolling.
If you want to do the cap you have to set it to middle population currently on, setting it to the lowest might be too low, and then that triggers the queue for the highest population. You don’t kick people out of maps, you just don’t let anymore in on the highest side until they get under the cap or the other sides come up. There should still always be a minimum to the map cap before the queue kicks in of like 20, so that a decent sized guild can jump in.
But that other person wanted to just boot people off the maps to eotm to maintain an even map cap.
As for your argument, yep $150. You can buy new accounts, but you won’t have the same toon without a lot of effort. Make it steep, disincentivize the bandwaggoners,
Only thing that would hurt is wvw levels and gem purchases, but frankly you can get by without them, it’ll be easy to fill in the needed ones. You get a free level 80 boost and can transfer gold and other stuff from your main account, you would still have your main account to play on.
And players know exactly which servers to go to, to avoid queues, that’s a silly statement. If you read that thread you’ll see someone made a great suggestion to counter issues.
A 3rd place team with no queues one week would end up in a tier below them with 1u1d and could be the biggest server in that tier then, and they would get the queues going by that system. So how do you pick a server to get away from queues and not get slammed with queues still, it’s kinda pointless to move unless you’re BG and facing queues 24/7, and JQ laughing since the queues will be based around them. If you also add the jacked up transfer cost there would be no incentive to move either.
(edited by XenesisII.1540)
Yep.
But I did with this: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Elastic-servers/first#post6703028
And yet nobody wants to talk about it because it could impact their stacked server lol.
I think it’s worth testing for a couple of months to see if it does indeed spread out the population.
My other idea is to charge $150 per transfer.
You would charge more for a transfer than even a collectors edition of the game?
When they could just you know buy the brand new game for 1/3 of the cost and just transfer gold and stuff over. Sure it won’t have all other account bound stuff and wvw ranks, but it isn’t really worth paying $100 for a wvw’er to keep, not when they could be playing on two servers now for 1/3 of that cost, or buy 3 accounts and be on 4 servers.
No one wants to talk about “elastic servers” because well.. it’s elastic map caps you talk about, and well it’s been talked about before as dynamic map caps, not going to dig up my previous posts on this.
Forcing players into queues so you can make them transfer and spread out doesn’t exactly work either, when players don’t even know what server they could go to without running into queues again, not without actual server population counts.
These dynamic map caps will hit every tier not just tier one because it just relies on the lowest side map count, including tier 4 where nsp and henge could be forced into queues because of tc, everyones only choice is to move to tc?

Now back to waiting on the report for derailing thread.
I pretty sure I repeated this numerous times to numerous people who simply refuse to read the thread.
Probably has something to do with your thread title which upon reading it just instantly invokes people to hate the idea before you even presented it and say no. Then not even bothering to read your thread properly, just dropping down their opinion that they don’t want deletion of any means.
If you want more people to read your thread seriously, then give it a proper title, like you know, Solution to server population imbalance or something.
BlackGate will just re-stack on whatever server they choose, and the cycle will repeat.
That’s ok, server deletion doesn’t have to be a one time thing!
Speaking of glicko and 1u1d, BG and JQ’s been locked in t1 battle for over a month now. The lack of variety from this “new improved” wvw matching system is really underwhelming.
Those two servers were once locked in the same matchup for over 2 years, they’re use to it. Besides when no other server can compete with those two what do you expect? One will win, the other will come in second, and the third wheel rotating in there every week will have a not so fun time getting beat on by both. They paid to stack their servers, enjoy being stuck in T1 again.
Look into your bank materials, you probably have extra mats stockpiled to make 300g, if you’ve been salvaging anyways. No legendary is “free”, there are parts you have to sink gold into like icy runestones.
Are you guys complaining about queues on reset? which has always had big queues on 4 maps since the beginning of the game? Is that what you’re complaining about?
Trying to figure out if Cerby is trying to make a late joke/troll about CD+links is bigger than BG.
Once again I will say in general, YOU DON’T HAVE TO DELETE SERVERS.
You just need to create a new pool of wvw players.
The current servers continue as the base server for every player, it’s the servers new players will continue to select when they first enter the game.
Create 12 new wvw servers where active wvw players will pick to play. Make each server have it’s own theme like name them after the gods and dragons, give those players finishers of those gods and dragons they are playing on, even make a version of the guild chest piece to display the god and dragon symbols, just some stuff to make people give a care about the server.
If an account does not play for wvw for like 6 weeks then reset them to no wvw world selected. You eliminate sleeper accounts that only come back for big events, they have to select a world again when they come back, at least they won’t be hibernating on just BG all the time.
You can control in the beginning of new world selections on how many will join the world, then raise caps when most worlds are at their soft caps.
You can even control off hours by designating 3 servers for ocx/sea and those servers will always fight each other, if ocx/sea players want to screw that up afterwards that’s their business. The other 9 servers will rotate on who they fight with 1u1d.
You can further encourage those players to play on those servers with the controversial action level scoring.
Or flow over to whatever crazy hair brained structure you want to control population with afterwards, but you don’t have to delete servers.
That is base on assumptions which you have no basis of and likewise I don’t which is why I don’t think that way.
Read forums everyday since 3 mths ago?
There’s a reason why my name has II in it.
Xenesis.6389 from day one.
P.S everything we talk about in wvw is mostly based on assumptions, because they have not revealed the inner workings of their game, but you know some things come down to common sense.
