“I refuse to play PvE, but I want to be able to vote on things that happen in PvE without participating in PvE!”
I’m voting for Moto to bring back SAB.
I really hope people aren’t expecting their precursor to be easy to obtain via scavenger hunt. Legendaries will cease to feel legendary if every other person has one. The current precursor difficulty is a huge part of the exclusivity, and although RNG sucks, the barrier is an important part of setting legendaries apart from every other exotic. Whatever Anet does with the scavenger hunt, it’s going to have to require a massive amount of time and resources to equal the RNG. It’s probably why it’s taking them so long to develop. They don’t want to put something out that’s too hard or too easy, or just badly designed. I’m expecting time-gated things similar to the charged quartz.
Is this supposed to be a good news? No one liked them… and i can assure you that for lev40+ EVERYONE will be skipping these two. So this is just two additional fractals everyone will skip like they skip dredge/shaman/cliffside. GG.
Wait a minute, EVERYONE? kitten … I was going to do them myself, but since you said EVERYONE then I guess I can’t.
RIGHT!
15 char
Hmmm Black Mesa you say? To get my vote, it would have to be a pretty flawless homage to Half Life. Otherwise, human gods fighting is too epic to pass up.
I’m pretty sure Anet meant it as a parody.
Well Colin just confirmed that the Abaddon fractal is going to be a million times more badkitten than the other one. I told you guys Anet already planned for Evon to win. :P
If Kiel wins Ill probably quit PvE entirely…
I will protest LA, and go to the Black Citadel or Hoelbrak instead. Give them my coin. Hopefully Evon brings his BLTC with him, together we will all prosper while LA falters into chaos
We should have the asura move the Fractals portal to Rata Sum. That wil get a decent chunk of people to move from LA.
Colin just said on the livestream (which just ended a few minutes ago) that the Fall of Abaddon refers to the events taking place before the original Guild Wars game.
It’s a done deal then. I want to see one of the single most amazing moments in the history of Tyria, not some silly Inquest debauchery. I will just have to live with the fact that I’m voting for an RNG peddling crook. :P
Oh snap, Colin said vote for Evon? I’d better do what he says then. :P
I hope we get aviator shades with our bow like the battle royale. My asura looked sexy in that event.
Evon looks goofy on his poster. Hes smiling, but smiling is awkward for a charr with giant teeth. Also they drew his eyes all big (relatively) and soft looking. Lol.
I bet Evon will win because Florida, wait I mean Skrittsburg votes will get messed up and conveniently swing in Evon’s favor. I think the whole election is going to be rigged lol.
I so want Abbadon’s Fall.
Trehearne should help us there, so we can see him and Kormir side-by-side.
and maybe trehearne finally dies
:DTHAT would be satisfying^^
Trahearn becomes the next god of Tyria alongside Kormir.
Everyone does realize that if Keil wins, the Cheaper Waypoints is only temporary, right?
Vote Evon, Fall of Abbaddon, if you want Thermanova, go to Metrica Province, it’s already there.
This is how I feel about the fractal. But I don’t really want to vote for Evon out of principle (I hate the RNG boxes!). It just seems suspicious to me that one side of this clearly benefits the wallets of the people actually making the game. I don’t think we are truly going to be affecting anything with our votes other than some very small superficial stuff, and which fractal we get first. In the end I think the story has already been predetermined.
So I was thinking. Evon is offering to throw a huge gem store sale for four weeks. Kiel is offering waypoint travel discounts. Which one of these puts money in Anet’s pocket?
Set aside, for a moment, the fact that Evon seems like the type of cat that might rig an election. If Anet has plans in place to make this sale happen, it stands to reason they plan to make a profit from it. And it seems illogical to just not go ahead and make money when they could. So from a real world business standpoint, I think this sale is inevitable (in some form or another), no matter what the players chose.
Back to Evon being a shady crook who peddles RNG boxes and consorts with the Consortium. Just because it would financially benefit Anet to pull the wool over our eyes, doesn’t mean it can’t be all part of the story, and thus fair.
I think Evon might rig the election, throw his gem store sale, and part of this living story quest will involve uncovering his dastardly plot. Next living story release may involve a revolt against Evon lead by Kiel, where the players must chose a side again. Maybe Evon paid the Aetherblades to kill that council member!
Anet can always add both of those fractals later, the player choices may simply decide which one we get first.

But I like achievements. Keeps me off the streets. lol
Holy freaking kittens batman, that’s a lot. I’ve been playing since the 3 day headstart and I only have 5600.
Lets all take a moment to appreciate this blend’s BOLD undertones.
Strange! I rather see that there are a lot of people that DON’T enjoy the jumping content, not the other way around.
Granted, I’m in the ‘dislike jumping’ camp. I however have heard of people enjoying jumping content and quite a few who would enjoy it if camera issues were fixed. I wouldn’t say it’s an even split, but there are camps on either side.
I for one LOVE jumping puzzles. I agree they can be frustrating, but that is true of any type of challenging content. I think they are a brilliant diversion from the normal “run around killing things” gameplay. They give the world a sense of mystery and exploration, and a different kind of challenge to overcome.
I haven’t had many camera angle problems, but I don’t usually play a norn. If anything, I just move the camera slightly and find an acceptable angle.
They really need to look up games like Price of Persia, Assassin Creed, Ratchet and Clank, Tomb Rider and learn from them. Only in the ’80s you were seeing your character jumping like a dummy in its feet, all the rest use some grabbing to avoid near the edge jumping fails
I know what you mean, but your mindset regarding this statement shows a lack of understanding in how games are built that I feel I must point out. They can’t simply change the way GW2 feels and plays to match one of those games. That’s like asking to hot swap the frame of a Lamborghini Diablo VT with a 747 airplane. Two completely different vehicles with two completely different everythings. The best you can hope for is for them to continue refining what they already have, but it’s unlikely it will ever be 100% perfect, and even less likely it will become exactly like a different game.
So… Ronah… you and gravity have met I see.
Lmfao.
2+ second activation time skills + animation Rootings, simply aren’t feasible in a PvP action game, especially one where people can dodge instantly. Infact it’s not even viable in the upper tiers of PVE either where you somtimes have to interrupt your own 0.75 second attacks just to dodge one of their big 1.25_sec telegraphed Attacks…
Anyone who’s NOT thinking about all this stuff in 0.25 sec increments, yeah, probably SHOULD go back to playing a slower game… like that new Cartoony Borderlands MMO NC is siphoning profits away for…. b/c there’s going to be a lot of skill-ceilings you’ll just crash head-on into in later content that will be added to this game in atleast the immediate 18 months ahead.. (or already exists in places like Arah but most people never see it b/c it’s not “rewarding” enough yet).
Am I right in inferring you don’t like the look of that new cartoony borderlands mmo? If so, can we be friends? All of my friends seem to have quietly lost their minds and fell in love with that catastrophe-waiting-to-happen. So I need new friends…
So it seems like people just want spells to feel very different from other skills, besides the animations. It seems they want to have a tangible resource from which to draw power for these magical abilities (mana). Problem is, this game simply isn’t designed to have that mechanic in it. Mana would be an attrition mechanic, and as such nearly every skill in the game would have to be rebalanced around it. And I think we can all agree the game already has balance issues to worry about. Anet cut the whole mana idea out of the game back in alpha through their iterative process, and it’s just not going to come back.
I have 8. One of every prof. 6 are 80, the others are only level 2. I might delete my level 2 ranger and just make a second guardian. I have a norn guardian, but I so much want a heavy armored asura because they look adorable. Or should I make him a warrior? Asura doing 100b is adorable as well.
I wish I could fight in the nude. I mean I can, but I want to retain my stats lol. My dream armor would be a sort of combo of chaos and tattoos from gw1. Imagine the chaos glove effect covering feet, hands, groin, and belly, and the rest of the body has glowing tattoo lines.
On a related note, I wish Charr didn’t have any loin cloths. It should just be a tuft of fur there. If the Skritt can get away with it, why not Charr?
This sucks lol. WoW bred a generation of content-clearing-grind-machines and now they can’t enjoy games like this because they get to the end too fast and have no interest in alternate toons or even alternate builds and gear.
Simple answer: Time gating is a way to artificially inflate content.
It makes 10 minute content look like a week’s worth!
I try to point this out to WoW players (raiding weekly lockouts) and they just don’t see the connection between that and monthly fees. They are brainwashed into thinking “It’s to make us go out and do other things besides WoW! Blizz is lookin out for our health!” Makes me cringe.
Had 9/50 after 6 years, went pretty fast from 9 to 46, but you have to consider I had a lot off stuff almost done and a good amount of cash to spend.
If you don’t enjoy the game, it will take too long for you to be worth it just for 500 AP.
I had 8 or 9 after 6 years as well, but I was never trying to fill my HoM that whole time. When I actually set out to fill it up, I got to 30/50 in only a few months, and that’s casual play, AND that was before the supposed nerfs others are mentioning.
So @ OP, don’t expect a free handout, but don’t be discouraged. It’s a fun game and it’s not hard to at least get something out of it. And you can always go back and continue working on it whenever you want.
Yeah if you are going for GWAMM or even just 30/50, it will take a pretty long time and a lot of effort. If you are an insane content-clearing grind machine, then it could take anywhere from 1-4 months (just not sure) but if you are a normal person planning to play more casually, it could take much longer. That said, you can easily knock out the first 10-15 points in a few weeks if you work at it. Some of those achievements are really easy. I guess you have to gauge which rewards you want. If you only want a fiery dragon sword, that’s not hard, but getting the whole thing maxed is a huge effort.
THANK MELANDRU! We didn’t have nearly enough trench coats before!
In all seriousness though, I wish they would at least properly model tail holes for charr trench coats. Having the tail clip right out the back is ugly and is keeping me from rolling my dream charr ranger and engineer.
Good lord, seriously? You can’t just give up the fact that someone who plays more than you can and should be able to get more achievement points?
This is how I feel in a nutshell. Why did I have to be born in a generation of people who get angry at people who work hard for rewards, and conversely (although not exactly related to OP) get angry when they don’t get handed rewards for nothing.
The way I see it, if someone feels like putting in the extra work for these points, there’s no reason they shouldn’t get rewarded for it. In fact, if you’re going to talk about it being competitive (which it isn’t, I don’t care if there’s a leaderboard, they could make a leaderboard for # of facebook friends, does that make it competitive?) then by all means, someone willing to put in the full amount of effort deserves to be on top. I mean, I’m not sure exactly how it works, but can someone maintain a top spot on the tpvp leaderboard by only playing 2 matches a day?
You are right, I was wrong thank you for you input.
Lol, I was not expecting to see this happen on the internet. <3
I kind of like having the optional long-term goal. It’s important to always have something to look forward to. However not being able to trade the resulting armor kind of stinks. I’m essentially crafting a really good magic find set that I can only profit from by using it myself, rather than selling it to farmers.

I still fail to see the point of capping achievement points. Achievements aren’t meant as a competitive ranking model, they are just a reward. Like giving your dog a biscuit for playing fetch with you.
If you compare this to other mmo’s like WoW, Rift etc they have like REAL mage like classes which actually CAST fireballs, icebolts etc.
I’m sorry, which real life historical mages are you using as the criteria for what a real mage is?
I nearly fell out of my chair laughing at this one!
Last time I checked, Fireball, along with every other ranged elementalist spell, takes at least 1 full second to cast. Many necromancer skills take a long time to cast as well. I’ve been interrupted many times attempting to cast Enfeebling Blood, sometimes by my own button spamming.
OP is a masochist! O_o
they said that it’s not a priority but that they’re aware of the problem. How many topics like this will be created this week?
Over 9000!
Yeah the WvW buffs are pretty hit/miss. I wish it would personally give you your server’s buffs no matter where you go or who you’re with (except spvp of course).
It’s a good day to be a GW1 veteran. I just log in and get free things because Arenanet loves me and despises anyone who didn’t play GW1. Life’s good.
Yeah man. They give free things that cost hundreds of hours, gold, and effort to earn over the course of years. And they despise people simply because they are rewarding others for their time, effort, and support.
I also think the manager of my local supermarket despises me simply because he pays his employees for working, and not paying me for not working.
I’m being sarcastic if you can’t tell.
Good to know I’m not the only one bothered by this. It would be nice to have some acknowledgement on this issue.
I don’t have any boosters or warrior friends. And those don’t excuse buggy/poor game design.
This is a good analysis of a strategy, however NPC’s don’t use their abilities right on cooldown all the time, so it’s really luck based to know exactly when he is going to use water. You can track his water all you want, but belching on it might as well be like spinning the roulette wheel.
beating Adnul is 99%of luck and 1% of skill
So why can a lot of the people I know that have beat him, beat him on a regular basis (not using his or the last bosses “elite” skill or regen/healing buffs)? I don’t understand why the forums of late have been blaming everything on luck, demanding that things just be given to them.
I would love to see some video footage, unedited, of someone beating Adnul 3 times in a row. Until then, I will assume people are lying. Hes not easy. He’s kitten hard, and it’s mostly dumb luck that decides if you beat him.
This is all beside the fact that the #1 and #3 skills are simply bugged, but no one seems to care about that little issue.
People have mentioned it in other threads, but I don’t see a topic specifically for it. As such I’m not even sure Anet is aware of the problem. Could a dev please comment on this?
I have tested this on the Adnul encounter. The player’s health is 10,000 total. When taking a drink (#1) my health goes from 10,000 to 8,000. When drinking water my health goes from 8,000 to 9,000. Unless I’m doing my math wrong, 10% of 10,000 is 1,000 and 20% of 10,000 is 2,000.
- states in the tooltip “health loss: 10%” however it is clearly 20%.
- states in the tooltip “health recovered: 20%” however it is clearly 10%.
- should only “damage” you for 1,000 and #3 should “heal” you for 2,000, however the values are clearly reversed. Either the skills are bugged, or the tooltips are wrong.
Feel free to verify.
He has not been fixed.
Also, ANet kids, go here: http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/when-difficult-is-fun
When the opposition has an obvious and repeated advantage over the player because they don’t follow the same rules (charr guy drinks every 2nd turn, all of the drinking NPCs use their specials constantly), it’s not a challenge, it’s just cheating.
+1
Tips for Adnul.
Bring the Sylvari’s Boast. Save your water and bluff skills for when he uses Critique. When he does, use one of each, then take a single drink. Or do them in whatever order you choose. That way you are only ‘forced’ to take one drink.
I tried this strategy 15 times last night. Doesn’t work. So I save my water and belch for critique? How about actually getting his health to drop? You are suggesting I spam bluff over and over until he uses it when he is at about 80%. Trouble is I’m always dead by then. He loses almost no health and heals all the time.
As what the poster above me said. They are going to do a big blogpost every 6 months. Next one is coming up end of july.
Taking bets right now that the blog post will be extremely underwhelming and uninformative. Just lip service and vague talk about the general direction they want to go. And it will all be the same vague words they’ve already been posting right here on the forums. There will probably be a section reiterating how “we want the elementalist to be the jack of all trades, we want the thief to be the mobile profession, etc.” There will be a section about how they want to continue the living story, as if it’s a revelation. They will mention briefly that they want to do other permanent content, but won’t go into detail. It will be a wall of text full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
