Well, I for one love the zone, and doing the achievements was fun. But I gotta agree the sanctum model was a pretty horrible reward.
Also Belchers Bluff is a horribly rigged, and bugged game.
It’s bugged. #1 and #3 are bugged. Your health is 10,000. Drinking water tooltip states that you will gain 20% health. 20% of 10,000 is 2,000. However, when I drink water at 5,000 health, my health becomes 6,000 instead of 7,000. Same problem with #1. It says you will lose 10% health. However if I drink at 5,000 health, my health becomes 3,000 instead of 4,000.
Check it for yourselves. It wouldn’t surprise me if the skills are unbugged for the NPC’s giving the illusion that Adnul has more health than the rest of us.
Report your findings to Anet and maybe if we are lucky they will fix it before the event ends.
No he doesn’t need to be redone, I found him particularly easy, just keep on trying, I got him around my third try.
If he is easy, would you mind posting an unedited, unbroken video showing you beating him three times in a row? This should be no problem if he’s easy.
I second this.
Also, another user brought it to my attention that the values for #1 and #3 are reversed. You are only supposed to lose 10% health from taking a drink, and you are supposed to gain 20% health from drinking water. Instead you lose 20% from drinking and only gain 10% from water.
So not only is Adnul rigged, but the skills themselves are bugged.
(edited by Xenon.4537)
There is definitely something wrong with the game. The tooltip says drinking costs 10% health and water gives 20% health, which is true for the NPC, but it’s the other way around for the player (drinking costs 20% and water gives 10%).
This.
Anet can we get a fix for this? Drink water is supposed to heal 20%. Health is 10,000. 20% of 10,000 is 2,000. When I use drink water I only receive 1,000 health. Conversely, drinking says 10% of health, but when I use it, I lose 2,000 health. This must be part of why the game is so frustrating.
I have a feeling Anet is yet again play testing some mystical version where it works perfectly, but they are delivering the bugged, crap version to the players without realizing it.
Dude Maddie is kittening unpossible. Help please? I’ve tried to beat her 20 times now. At 60% she starts using Woo every 3 rounds leaving 0 chance to drink water. All I can do is boast which only delays the inevitable.
Update: This game is based PURELY on luck. I beat Maddie finally but it was pure, stupid, blind, dumb luck because I was down to 700 hp and she forced me to bluff for 8 straight rounds. Again it was nothing but dumb luck that she didn’t belch once.
Dear Anet,
Please design future minigames to involve strategy rather than luck.
Sincerely,
Xenon.Yeah I wrote down 20 matches with Adnul, and after looking through them there was no pattern for when he belched vs when he healed. I had one match where he didn’t heal for 10 rounds, others where he healed every chance he could. You cna’t really make strategies and use skill when the opponents 1) Don’t play by the same rules and 2) Have totally random strategies.
I think the entire game really works on luck. The NPC’s seem to pick their course of action on a whim, with the added ability to spam signature moves, which is unfair imo because players can’t. PvP of this game is mostly luck because you have no idea what the opponent is going to do beyond assuming they will bluff or heal when their health is low. Indeed it is like trying to say there is strategy in rock paper scissors, when in fact it is simply luck of the draw.

You might as well roll a thief without stealth.
perma evasion thief?
A thief can evade all they want, but I’ve never seen a thief survive on evades alone.
Here’s the base minion build I would use. Put the extra 10 points into death magic and take either Death Shiver, Death Nova, or Necromantic Corruption, whichever you like. Or you can put the 10 points into Blood magic and take Fetid Consumption. I think Death Nova or Death Shiver would be my favorite options for PvE, and the others for PvP. You can swap Blood Fiend for Consume Conditions if you don’t like that minion and would prefer stronger self-heal + cleanse. Switch Shadow Fiend for Flesh Worm if you need a stun breaker. Try to get those bone minions to run inside a combo field before you explode them. Also make sure you hop in to death shroud and use #4 near your minions as it will heal them a lot due to the Transfusion trait.
Edit: Remember to busy yourself with the axe/focus by stacking vulnerability. Set your gear for condition duration, and you might as well give yourself vitality and toughness to keep yourself alive, because I’m pretty sure your minions are unaffected by your personal gear and stats. On the other hand considering your minions will eat at least some of the enemy’s damage, you might be safe to go full offense, since your minions are ultimately limited in their damage output.
(edited by Xenon.4537)
All good feedback so far. I’d like to add that if you want to optimize your minion build, you should use an axe/focus to stack vulnerability. It’s the only way afaik to increase minion damage (by causing their targets to take increased damage). Think of it like using the Barbs hex in a GW1 minion build.
They finally gave necros a powerful tool (fear wall) to put them on par with mesmers and guardians for WvW utility.
Why not 30/20/20/0/0? Dhuumfire + Terror + condi durations and staff traits?
I think maybe Anet chose this design experimentally, but now that it’s in it’s probably for the best. Consider the fact that it has more crit damage than berserkers and the same magic find as any other set. This pretty much makes it superior to other MF sets and makes it competitive with crit damage builds that don’t require high precision from gear (such as a necro using a Deathly Perception shroud build). If it’s as good as it seems, then it shouldn’t be quite as easy to get. That said, if it’s superior to exotic quality gear, one wonders why it isn’t ascended quality.
I play with my teenage daughter, she’s setup with a PC and her own account. I think it’s perfect for her and she really likes it. I’m glad it’s not all blood and gore. My problems are the low lifes who find out she’s actually a female player playing a female character.
My advice is teach her to pretend shes a dude at all times on the internet.
Just because it’s not dark and gritty doesn’t mean it’s for kids.
If anything in my personal experience it goes the other way. When I was a kid me and my friends were all playing Doom and Mortal Kombat 3 (we got in just before age ratings really existed, or at least were enforced) and now I’m 28 I know far more people who play ‘kid friendly’ games like Animal Crossing (I’ve never met anyone who played that who was under 20), Guild Wars, Sims etc.
Which isn’t to say I hate violence, or even blood and gore or would object to having it in my games. But it’s definitely not part of the appeal now like it used to be. Although I do still love causing crazy ‘accidents’ in GTA.
I think it’s because young people want to explore adult behavior and older people long for a return to their childhood innocence.
No GvG in a game naming itself Guild Wars 2…
There is something wrong here, can’t put my finger on what exactly.
Haha I fell out of my chair laughing at this one. Hang on let me get my slide ruler, maybe we can figure this out together! :P
Seriously though, Anet, where’s the GvG? T_T
I need to school them in video game combat design 101.
Please give us a link to your website and portfolio.
Since when is this game about being dark and evil?
I would appreciate if you could actually read my post, although it turned out to be kind of long. I provided a link to a screenshot of Celestial heavy armor already.
Sorry, I’ve been known to overlook the most obvious things. X.x
Also its 9AM here and I’m not officially awake until like 2pm. You are pretty much talking to a zombie.
http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/gw2-celestial-light-armor-set.jpg
It has more Crit % than berserker.
Thank you! This is exactly what I wanted. For some reason I couldn’t find it on the wiki or anything.
Celestial have 66% less power and 40% less precision than berserker.
All that crit damage isn’t going to help without power and precision. So chance are glass cannon isn’t going to use celestial.
Celestial is ideal for balance class(elementist, guardian) or power/condition hybrid dps. I use celestial jewel on my necromancer.
It’s true I wont have as much raw damage in celestial as in berserkers, but it’s still worth exploring the balanced approach vs the glass. My theory is that if I can have the same crit damage and maintain close to 50% crit chance through fury, then the trade-off to survivability (vit, tough) and the magic find would be worth it. Also this is for my ele, and they benefit from all the stats like you said.
Can someone post the exact stat numbers for every piece of celestial? I want to figure out the exact differences between it and other sets. Currently my ele has full berserkers. My base crit chance is 50% and crit damage is 110%. This is pretty (fun) overkill, but I’m just wondering if more survivability would be better, considering celestial has the same crit damage as berserkers and magic find (or so I’ve heard).
I heard that the celestial chest piece has 6% crit damage, 1% more than berserkers. How much power, precision, and crit damage does a full celestial set have compared to a berserkers? I’m curious to know because my ele has 110% crit damage and 50% base crit chance, and I think that might be a little overkill, so I’m wondering if this celestial set would be better?
I think the team that did this must be the same that did Halloween and SAB. They seem to deliver the best updates. The other teams need to step it up!
I have a theory that the living world team that made this event is the same team that made the Halloween event, Wintersday, and SAB. Basically all the best ones. They deserve a raise.
Something tells me you aren’t using your cooldowns or dodging at the right times. It could be some problems with your build. I don’t know, You didn’t post details and I haven’t seen you actually play in these situations so it’s hard to make a diagnosis. But since you claim to be playing bunker guardian, I find it hard to believe you are having trouble just staying alive if you know what you are doing. I run around on my berserker ele and manage to stay alive, and that’s some squishy meat right there.
Edit: To clarify, why don’t you give us your build and gear. List your trait choices, weapons, utilities, etc. In regards to being 1-shotted, I’ve never been 1-shotted without some type of animation on the mob telegraphing the incoming attack. If I don’t see it, it’s either because I wasn’t paying attention, or the game was truly lagging. Although the latter is rare for me. You have to watch for those cues to dodge. Don’t just use it on a whim. It’s tricky business but that’s the challenge.

Anet please please please allow us to buy more bank tabs at least. I would much rather drop 800 gems on another bank tab rather than having to sift through alts to try and find the item I’m looking for. I don’t see why there is even a limit on bank tabs especially since we can have up to 40ish character slots.
40 character slots? Is this legit? Has anyone actually tried it? Lol.
Make every race, sex, and class combination… TWICE.
Interesting. On one hand this might be good for OCD people like you and me, but could easily blow up in Anets face on other.
Hahaha. It’s as if Anet is the worlds worst bomb-smith and every patch they are trying to make something not explode in their face. I get the image of some generic dev whittling away at something and holding it carefully only to have it blow up Daffy Duck style leaving their face black and their mouth on the back of their head.
although i wud love to see green flames on necro i think its unlikely
this is because unlike guardian, which has a vast range of burning skills, necro’s only have one source of it. And also if they give us green flames they wud probs have to give mesmers purple flames because they have more burning skills than us
Mesmers already have purple flame effects on the torch.
I agree wholeheartedly.
Now that I hit 110% crit damage with my berserker staff build, I don’t think I can ever go back.
We should all get together and make a forever-alone guild.
I play alone. I have a guild, but it’s just one I created, and I am the only member.
This! xD I was in a bigger guild before but left because of drama. Also, I hate it when they find out that I’m a girl and guys start flirting with me… I just want to play the game in peace. There’s enough interaction with other people in events. Like, the other day I duo-ed Svanir’s dome with an other ranger and we were talking about ranger builds for a while after it. When I do random events with other people I always say something like good job or whatever and those usually end up with small convos, for at least a few lines. Sometimes I even do random quests with people after events. Or when people need help with skill points I like to help them because my ranger has epic survivability and we chat for a while. x) That’s enough socializing for me, lol.
Why do girls love rangers so much? Lol. Every girl I’ve met in an MMO plays the hunter/ranger/pet class. Silly girls…
I love how people skim and don’t read. I use my BL kits I replenish that many monthly, sme with boosts. Holy cow people missed the entire paragraph where I clearly said I use all those items frequently and then obtain more.
How do you get so many kits and harvesting items? I mean I have 125 unopened chests because I’ve only ever found like 5 keys since launch. And I don’t think it’s worth buying keys with real money when there’s perfectly good stuff at the vendor for silver.
I bet Anet doesn’t even realize they did this. They didn’t realize they increased his HP last patch either.
+1 green fire.
Also please don’t nerf anything… People have more condi cleanse than Mr. Clean.
It’s funny how people love holidays like halloween and wintersday, but hate temporary content that isn’t tied to anything in particular. I do wish they had more focus on permanent things though. Colin keeps saying they are working on permanent stuff as if that was the plan all along, but I think it’s more like they heard the complaints and decided to change things up.
Yeah… video games are a completely different medium from live musical performance…
What is the definition of “achievement”? If the achievement is to do a thing and you can’t achieve that, then why should you be entitled to the credit? If you can’t do it, you can’t do it. There are some things in life people can and can’t do. Think of this one as a challenge of patience. The other players sitting there ganking are part of this challenge. Accept it.
They didn’t make the last one mandatory for any rewards, so I doubt this one will be mandatory. Skip it if you don’t like it.
Well it is an interesting idea to have a unique set of skills for a unique weapon that is permanent. But yeah, that would throw a huge wrench in the balance of the game Anet is trying to achieve. I think the best you can hope for is a revamp of the elementalist conjure skills. Anet have said several times they feel they need to rework conjures because people never use them as intended. They tried buffing them to incentivize us to use them but it doesn’t seem to be working.
I would say GW2 is rather fluid in its controls compared to other MMOs.
I have to compare it to WoW. In WoW I can’t function properly without my Nostromo and 24+ keybinds (12 + shift modifier). Add in the ridiculous amount of UI elements to track from raid frames to DBM and you have this insane rat’s next of an interface. And my setup is probably minimal compared to the average WoW player.
GW2 is a sunny day on the beach by comparison. I’m a huge fan of the adage “less is more.” Even so, GW2 easily has more controls to worry about than your average FPS, RTS, or AARPG.
Oh look, it’s this thread again…
If you didn’t like it before, you probably won’t like it now. Conversely if you liked it before, you will probably still like it. If you want detailed information about classes or content changes, there’s a huge wiki full of information.
Inb4 they move this to the Players helping players subforum along with the other 9001 of these threads.
P.S. I get mildly annoyed with these because it’s sort of an insult in disguise. The tone of message might as well read (in a condescending kittenhole voice) “Hey I was bored and wondering if this pile of dog turds has the capacity to entertain my shallow kitten for 5 minutes. Thought I’d make this thread to give people a place to dump all of their seething bad criticism and garbage.”
I can’t believe people are calling OP on this… It’s stupid. Actually I can believe it, but it’s still stupid. The damage is great in PvE, but in PvP people shrug off conditions so fast it makes me dizzy.
If you sit there and let all of my conditions tick their full duration AND you refuse to exploit my complete lack of stability, then you deserve to die.
I can almost guarantee that you have never played a necro in-depth with what you just said and if that’s the case that makes you a hypocrite.
i can guarantee you that you never play against a necro with a class that has limited condition removal
i admit i dont play a necro but i played against them. I am answering your question
why are necros viewed op
They are viewed OP because people haven’t learned how to deal with them yet. Here’s a hint: Necros have little or no stability, long CD stun breaks, and depend a lot more on utilities that aren’t stun breaks. You want to cry about too many conditions/fears? Try rolling a necro that doesn’t use them. You might as well roll a thief without stealth.
Your picture is hilarious lol. I mean, I save a lot of my Black Lion harvesting tools too, but that’s just insane. I would start using them up if I were you, if only to free up space. Also why are you saving so many of that silly doll? Does it even show anything cosmetic on your toon?
Yes,a lot of them actually.
Warrior: For Great Justice and Shake it off – Stun breaker so good
Thief: The signet with 25% speed,I forgot the name
Elementalist: Arcane Blast – Free blast finisher
Mesmer: Blink and Feedback
The funny thing about my mesmer is I feel like I’m forced into ALL of my utilities. I always have to switch something good out depending on the situation. My build revolves around clone spam and shatters, but I always have to sacrifice a clone utility for portal, or feedback , or boon share, or something.
I kind of like your idea for defiant. The only thing that worries me is it seems like it would promote mindless zergy CC spam. The current system is designed with the idea that the team must work together to strip stacks and use the best CC once those stacks are gone. For example it may be best for a mesmer to use diversion (3 stuns, removes 3 stacks) then some warriors remove the last 2 stacks with a hammer or something, and then a necro specced for fear can hit the boss with a strong 2-3 second fear. If the team coordinates and repeats this process through the fight, they can CC the boss every 20-30 seconds which makes a big difference in some cases. Your suggestion is basically a form of simple diminishing returns and removes the need for this type of team timing. Removal of teamwork means more tank/spank/zerg which means more boring gameplay overall. Yes it would make control builds more viable, but it would diminish the importance of tactics and active thinking.
Unspoken rule? Dude there are no rules. You’re living in a fantasy world. Griefers gonna grief. If they didn’t want pvp to happen in obsidian sanctum, they wouldn’t have made it possible.
Orr and Southsun are pretty much dead on Dragonbrand. I pop over there once in a while for Arah or if I’m bored. I only ever see a bot or two roaming around and 3 or 4 people waiting for pent/shelter. I don’t think Anet has any idea what to do with Orr. First they felt the need to nerf it, then they tried to revamp it, but nothing seems to fix that place.
You can sort of tell Anet’s attitude toward Orr when they mention that living story and holiday events don’t take place in Orr. Like on Wintersday they said something about the random gift boxes being everywhere but Orr “where there isn’t much cheer.”
