Wow, never read so many Drama Queens. Seriously, all this just because you have to have the best stats even though the not having them doesn’t limit the you in the game in anyway.
My favorite complaints so far “Anet broke their promise to me” and the “I’m going to suck in WvW now”.
I’m all for something new and optional to do. Plus finally get a back slot too.
People will use it as an excuse to why they lost in World vs World, but it won’t be why they lost.
I dont know why I even go on the forums. All of the negativeness and hate just makes me lose hope for the game, I dont want to lose hope. I have to get off the forums.
The fanbois said the exact same things about us clear-eyed folks on the SWTOR forums… right up until EA admitted that thing was the epic fail it was. What you weakly perceive as negativity and hate is the passionate constructive concern of people who love a game and don’t want to see it crippled or dead. Running away and pretending everything is great when a company does something that will make players flee in droves—that’s being negative.
It’s not fanboi’s to point out you whining over War Hero gear Battlemaster gear is silly..
War Hero gear was a decent upgrade over BM, but honestly, It had no effect on you winning or losing a fight.
Class Balance will always come down to if you win or lose…The stat difference between WH/BM only determined by how much you won or lost.
Now you’ll have people that are like “Well what about when you have two people of the same class with equal skill” and I say it’s hogwash statement..Because that never happens…ever…in an MMO
I fought people on my Pyro Powertech who had full War Hero on their Pyro Powertech when I was in BM Gear..I won fights in that game based entirely on crits alone..Or if I attacked first…
In this game, I’ve yet to run across a single ranger out in World vs World that i’ve not stomped completely into the ground rather handily. I play a Ranger..Now either i’m the greatest ranger to ever play (Which I assure you I’m not) Or My spec has to do more with winning the fight then anything else..

No matter the stat increase, It’ll come down to Class then Skill then Luck then Stats.
Some maths, before giving my own thoughts, since everyone seems to be missing this:
What you are seeing from the picture on the blog is an 8% stat increase, from exotic to ascended, per stat. As a reminder: stats scale your power linearly in GW2, meaning that an 8% increase in a single stat increases your power, roughly, by 8%.
However, each item at level 80 has three stats. This means that a linear increase across all stats from one item to the next results in a cubic increase in power. To make this more clear: increasing your power by 8% increases your damage by 8%. But increasing your precision by 8% also increases your damage by 8%, the same is also roughly true of crit damage. If you increase all three of these stats by 8%, as the ascended armor does, you get a whopping 26% in damage.
TLDR Ascended armor, judging from the official info we have available, is roughly 26% more powerful than exotics. If/when ascended items are available for all slots, if you equip them, you will be able to kill people in WvWvW 26% faster than they can kill you.

The Bonus stats weren’t the big problem with Orbs, it was the 15% bonus to Health that was the problem.
A) Orbs are gone now; aren’t they?
B) I used WvWvW as an example. You will also be able, with full ascended gear, to kill mobs in PvE 26% faster. You’ll be able to do 26% more damage during DEs; perhaps pushing you over the damage treshhold for “tagging”, or generating loot, from more mobs than those with exotics. Really, my point is that 26% is nothing to scoff at.
Orbs were gone because they rewarded the “higher” population side more, Personally I disagree with removing them, As relics were in DAOC for years and it was perfectly fine.
Now I agree with disabling them till they bloody fixed people stealing them through hacks (which is the other reason they were removed)

If all that is available right now is a Ring and Backpiece i’m not going to flip out over that. Hell Legendary weapons at one point were actually better then Exotic Gear, and I still wouldn’t of bothered getting a Legendary Weapon..
So if its super annoying, I won’t bother with it….Now You’ll have some people that are like “But what about PvP!!!!”

My World vs World build is built around pain inverter on my ranger.. and yes.. It does kill thieves insanely fast..

Will also have 3 Factions of Course, PvE/PVP won’t be separated by gear (SO you have something to do when you don’t feel like doing one or the other), oh and Darkness Falls will be in the game as well, including a few other Smaller Public Dungeons out in the pvp area.
He’s basically getting his wish of making DAOC2 like he wanted.. I believe at one point he actually tried to buy the rights for DAOC.
ESO is starting to look to be very very close to DAOC, They are going to have a Realm Rank system, they have the 3 factions, It’s got the hard interrupts and CC… it’s going to be very interesting..
Ohh and no instanced pvp they’ve already said as well..only the RvR
DAOC didn’t really have the Scenario System, but you still had 8v8 which would be comparable to 5v5 here, Only it was more about countering your opponent and killing him then standing in a little circle.. You also knew who the good groups were because you saw their kill spam in the entire zone… DAOC was just about perfect when it comes to PvP.
Warhammer Online did have a Scenario System, and it had much greater variety and far better maps then GW2…. I’d say other then Huttball from SWTOR (Which is the best PvP Scenario Map in any game i’ve played) Warhammer Online probably had the best maps in an MMO (Though Whitefall was fun in Rift..not the changed versions of the map, the original before all the speedy rogues)
I will say that the World vs World Maps in Guild Wars 2 though are better then Warhammer’s, I like WAR’s maps.. but Guild Wars 2 WvW is superior…It’s Siege Mechanics as well…. Warhammer Onlines Realm Points (Along with DAOC) make it probably better then GW2 though in the end..
DAOC is still the holy grail of PvP in MMO’s though….We got fairly close with GW2, but it’s still not there.. Hopefully ESO will be up to the task.
This is my thoughts on it, as an Asura Ranger, you should have very little trouble in World vs World..
People need to quit thinking of a Ranger as a Bow User, because unless you’re running Longbow with Crit/Power Build and hugging Zergs, Bow absolutely blows pretty terribly.

Avoiding some attacks is still better the not being able to avoid an attack.
Yea, Every 10 Seconds it’ll remove all your conditions..Which sucks if you use the Signet Talent because it’ll overlap the two.
The Signet Talent maybe should be every 5 seconds instead.
As a Condition Ranger i don’t have much trouble in World vs World, but I’ve had to switch to Axe/Torch and Sword/Dagger to make it viable while using a Racial ability on my Ranger.
Traps are useless in World vs World, as well as Spirits/Pet Shouts..and QZ is awful for a Condition Ranger.. so that leaves basically racials..
One of the main reasons no mmo will ever have the same success as WoW did, in my opinion, are posts like this. Communities are so impatient now, threatening to leave, exaggerating Issues. I’ve seen this trend for awhile now, we set up games for failure without giving them time to develop and succeed.
This ppatch isn’t make or break for me, because this has been one of the smoothest and well balanced(regarding PvP) for an mmo I know of.Your so far from the mark, it’s obvious you haven’t been playing MMO’s very long.
Long ago there were two games that had a very large PvP Community they were called Everquest 1 and DAOC. When those games had gotten old and they went to release DAOC2 and Everquest 2 which both dropped the ball on PvP.
WoW released right at this time and had a slightly better pvp system and great pve that grabbed every player from other games. There success was more timing then anything else. But patch after patch pve was focused on while PvP was ignored.
This left a giant playerbase of homeless PvPer’s looking for the next game, they tried Darkfall, Warhammer, Rift, Swtor, Lineage 2, etc. All of which dropped the ball on PvP while promising fixes and concerns on pvp content that never came.
Now pvp player’s are smarter they can see through the jargon and rhetoric designers use to placate them, while doing nothing whatsoever to address the pvp flaws. So they leave when Dev’s ignore there issues and concerns that imbalance pvp, as they should.
The problem is Dev’s don’t actually do what DAOC did…They do half of what made it great..
Warhammer Online had half of what made DAOC great (Realm Abilities, Different Classes, Different Factions)
GW2 has Half of what made DAOC great..(Great Siege, 3 Sides)
hopefully ESO has both halves.
I really enjoy the game, but there is no denying the huge exodus that has already occurred. It’s unfortunate, but hopefully with this being a subscription free game people will rejoin after some major improvements.
Rift, being the last MMO, I’ve played experienced the same type of drop in population and it hasn’t recovered (nor do I expect it to).
All MMO’s experience the drop since WoW was released.
Doesn’t matter if its F2P or not.
I’m actually curious if Rift will get some subscribers back though with their new Expansion (which i’ve beta tested, and is really really good)
Where does this talk of pets doing 45% of ranger dps come from? Lol. It wouldn’t even be that much if you were just on auto attack.
I do not even see much of an issue with pets, they are far more responsive than in other titles.
My biggest suggestion would be to buff up a single skill in SB, maybe some AOE, because in long group pve fights its pretty dull. Thief SB puts it to shame apart from rangers AA speed. A melee closer would b good too, I know the Gs has one and you can trait for the speed buff when you switch in combat but I feel it would make melee that little bit more viable for more players.
I don’t feel any of those would be op at all, I could be wrong.
Also, some of the slot skills are very poor, 20% chances are not that useful, nor is a 10% speed buff, some of the elite summon skills timers are way too long also, imo. Also, more variety in traps and possibly more trap based traits?
I do not feel our DPS is that bad (considering our CC and CD’s) once you build for it and know how to chain attacks. We have one of the largest and fastest to cast rAOE’s in the game, plus it cc’s too, stop crying, really.
This all reminds me of WAR’s shadow warrior, which was a far far inferior class, many QQ’ed it was terrible, it was poor compared to it’s opposite but could be devastating in the correct hands.
I think many crying about the ranger so much should try ele and other classes.
I had an RR80 SW and a RR80 Squig Herder.
The SW was very very poor till it got the range increase SH have about 2 years after release. From what i understand they’ve buffed it even more….But Anyway the SW was absolutely awful compared to most classes in the game..I mean I could kill people yes.. and after the range increase I was able to solo fairly decently on it..However If you played any other class like I did in that game (Knight/Black Orc/Warrior Priest) you knew how really subpar SW was..Being Effective on a subpar class doesn’t make it suddenly an ok class…It just means you can do ok even with a poor class.
I mean…How subpar was the SW? How about Skirmisher SW having less range damage then a Disciple of Khaine..which was a Duel Wielding Melee Healer….It’s Nuke hit harder then the Skrimsher SW’s attacks…and applied a proc (usually a snare, or a lifetap..)
If you want to get rid of conditions, you need Empathic Bond at 30 Wilderness, It’s basically the only reliable way to get rid of them.
I did find your video entertaining…which can be summed up as the best of a bad situation.
The Ranger Downstate abilities are pretty awful.
3 Is useless, You will not get it off pretty much 99% of the time, the remaining 1% it’ll bug out.
2 While an AOE daze is decent for delaying death…It’s nothing compared to Thief/Mesmer/Elementalist in delaying fights.
You can use your pet abilities though, and if it’s a rogue who can’t stealth or you’ve gotten someone low you can switch pets for some quick burst, I know i’ve done that…
But Rangers are easily one of the worst down states..
Maybe if 3 was actually worthwhile it’d be better, but 3 as of right now is crap..
Wasn’t aware of svanir exploits though.
Currently you can break out of the ice block and remain invulnerable while maintaining cap presence and the ability to use skills. It’s especially noticeable when you’re playing against the teams who do run 3 bunkers and exploit it. I’ll stay away from naming names, but most of the players using it have denied doing so (and have eliminated recorded evidence). :P
Hmm, I use to run Svanir on my ranger to combat Stealthers..I don’t recall being able to break out of it, But I know you could still use Skills with it.
I would let the Rogue get me down, and then pop my Jag’s Stealth+QZ while in iceblock, often times my Jag could instant gib a Rogue beating on me who wasn’t paying attention.
Rofl, I’ve never noticed that rune before…Wonder how many times I’ve eaten it because of that stupid proc.
Still..No person should be arguing for a proc in a game that does 1/4 the health of pretty much everyone but Warriors/Necro’s that you can’t avoid.. and is going to go off every 10 seconds….

No on giving reward besides the current one you get for taking things..
Badges of Honor could simply result in people trading if the reward was great enough.
That’s what happened in Warhammer Online till they made the reward for killing actual players better then the keep takes of empty ones.

We crushed you so hard all the way up till Monday late night early Tuesday. Facts? just go back and look at the score updates that everyone was posting last week and it clearly show us puttin the whoops to you.

2v1 is kinda getting old, but fact when SBI and JQ hit us and the both of you are standing side by side and NOT hitting each other, well you call it then. Oh yeah TACTICAL work is what you guys say? No that’s TEAM work plain and simple.
As for this week, it is clear that we had lost alot of our server base players for WvWvW.

Lets be honest, With the way PvP works in this game, There is a good chance SBI and JQ could be standing next to each other and not even see one another.
So if warriors are as overpowered as thieves are, according to thieves in this thread about hopefully not nerfing thieves, Then why don’t I see a mountain of posts talking about how overpowered Warriors are vs thieves?
In fact why don’t I see countless posts by every other class in this game crying about every other class?
Why is it every other class seems to point to the thief and says “Well that class is overpowered”

maybe people just don’t understand how to play against the stealthing high burst classes with speed and teleports and that’s why that skillset is always nerfed in every single MMO it’s in….

Anywho, Asura’s Pain Inverter is amazing. I wasn’t a believer at first, but I’ve seen it in action and now I’m a convert. Some racial abilities are pretty good… not sylvari, but some are pretty good.
Thieves are the worst class to 1v1 in WvW, however, as most have the ability to drop in and out of combat, thereby deciding the encounter in their favor. I’d say don’t get too serious about finding a counter to them just yet; wait until November 15th when the new patch drops with fixes for our class.

I don’t understand, what difference does that make?I usually have Axe/Horn equiped, aswell as a wolve in pvp.
So to deal with a thief the best way you need to chill him with axe 3, then use horn 5 and wolve petskill. This way you can run as fast as you can and try to escape while that theif is feared and chilled.
Hopefully you find some teammates that can deal with the enemy for you.
That’s actually the best tactic for every enemy in sPvP right now!
I used this special tactic for the past few weeks and it works pretty well.
Same should work for WvWI was hoping for a more helpful strategy than ‘just run away!’
Asura’s get Pain Inverter, which kitten most Thieves pretty horribly.
You could have the bounces apply a random condition.
What race is your ranger?
We want the Thief to be the class that most “slips through your fingers”. Other classes like the Ele and Mes have some of it too (and rightly so), but if anyone is escaping a fight, that should be a slippery Thief.
The Necro, on the other hand, should be the dude you CANNOT get away from.

I don’t play a Necro, I play a ranger, and i just read this post by you Mr Sharp, and I got to tell you…You’re probably not thinking this through very well.
If a Thief is able to escape most classes in this game, It’s going to need Mobility of some kind. Any Class in a game that has Mobility greater then other classes for Escape is AUTOMATICALLY going to be superior at catching people because If they can out run you while getting away, They’re going to be able to out run you if you try and escape thus catch you.
So that means any design you have for the Necro being the class you just can’t get away from is going to be automatically trumped by The Thief.
So you’re really going to have to look at the Necro in the role you want, Because quite frankly what you’ve suggest will not work in its present state, or any future state.
Axe 3 already applies weakness.
The only thing you could make it is Vulnerability

This right here. Not only that but in DAoC they were MORE oped then here. Much more. DMG cap increase right off the top. Amazing that its not really balance but their inability to handle simple to stop hacks (no clip? really? z axis flying?).
Like I said, they better be adding more reasons to W3 or its going to be a ghost town. As it is how many servers are full now compared to a month ago?

Having 3 orbs would still be awesome (Say if 3 orbs provided like a 30% increased badge drop rate) but it would actually make that team a powerhouse compared to the others.
Oh and then they could give the stat bonuses to the out-manned buff…so you know…the buff actually helps the team that is out-manned instead of taunting them like it does now.
The outmanned buff is largely considered a load of crap by most of the population.
Having the buffs switched would be the same as removing them entirely…No one would give two craps about the Orbs.
For the Orbs to be effective in this game, You have to have a benefit to owning them, and you have to have a problem in not owning them…..If you have no reason to defend or take them, then they’re useless.

Yes on others, I played with Desolate from Midgard Merlin, I have a RR11l3 Valkyrie named Terravos (My Savage is Xsorus)
Strangely a system that worked fine in DAOC for 10+ years is unbalanced in this game

Anytime a class in any MMO says “Don’t nerf this Class, instead buff other classes” It’s pretty much 100% in need of a nerf.
Also, Anyone who thinks that you should never nerf a class in an MMO and instead buff other classes in MMO to compete is clearly lacking in knowledge related to game development and clearly lacking a whole lot in understanding Balance in video games.
If 1 class could one shot every other class in the game, you wouldn’t upgrade every other class in the game to one shotting people..You’d nerf the class that could one shot.
I’m sorry you rolled a class that is considered overpowered and lacks skill to play, But them are the ropes……Though to be honest…I shouldn’t feel sorry for any of you…Because you chose to play a Stealth Class, which in every MMO forever has been pretty much always overpowered in some way, and needed a Nerf……
i think the axe off-hand is good as it is, i feel the axe main-hand needs something, but im not quite sure what. a damage buff might work, but its kinda a boring buff
Number 2 and 3 on Axe are good, Axe 1 though is boring and crap..Should apply maybe a Condition of some kind.
So been playing the spec some more, and it is still working pretty good, I did lose to a Thief doing the Wild Bill spec of just popping out of stealth to apply attacks and going right back in over and over again. This ended up confusing my bird pets which are a big source of my burst. I managed to make the thief run off a few times though when she got low on health so I probably really would of have more wins then her if I could of been able to catch her.
I’ve changed up my Weapon Sigils as well, I can’t afford another Sigil of Energy and wasting 60 silver on Corruption Sigils seemed kind of overpriced, so I switched over to the ones that proc the AOE Bleed and the Poison on next hit.
I found these actually work really well with the build. It’s a 3 Stack bleed that lasts like 8 seconds I believe, so I can apply 11 Stacks of Bleed if I land my Point Blank Axe Number 2 ability at the start of a fight fairly easily.
The Poison i put on my Offhand Dagger, its 5 Seconds of Poison Duration i believe, but if I apply it+sword+dagger poison it’s 20 seconds of Poison on the target..so I can basically keep Poison up perma on the target very easily. I would probably replace it with Energy if I could but on my server its over 1 gold 20 Silver for each Superior Version.
Any servers? Don’t want to transfer to a contested one for 7 days
Since when has there be an aoe, gtaoe, pbaoe cap on the number of ennemies hit by those skills, being introduced in Warhammer?
I think I’ve missed that patch.Damage and stacking was nerfed, for sure, but when the tooltip says all players, it’s still all players.

Removing the cap could be a solution but a lot of factors need to be analysed by Anet I presume. (stacking aoe damage, damage from siege, how it works out during tower/keep siege/defense)Turtling is probably the only situation where aoe healing becomes an issue. Otherwise in all other situations it’s actually very weak compared to the amount of damage being ditched out. Also the normal, non turtling meta-game in GW2 makes it so that it’s a skill on its own being able to spread out some decent healing, but that’s something for another topic I presume.
It didn’t have a cap on number of players hit in Warhammer Online.
You couldn’t stack AOE though, so two people aoeing the same area with the same spell wouldn’t work..This was done to counter BW’s somewhat..
Warhammer Online needed this compared to DAOC though cause it had Collision Detection and DAOC didn’t….
DAOC was a great example of how AOE can work without a cap………..and it proves that having a cap is invaluable.
You didn’t have to be smarter. You didn’t have to play better and you weren’t more skilled than your opponent. You where in ventrillo(or teamspeak, people still used it in the way back machine).
Some guy played a healer that had an AE stun. A couple, maybe more guys played spiritmasters, and maybe you had a couple of warriors with guard on them(guard would block for the recipient of the buff).
Healer ran in room, dropped the AE stun, Spiritmasters PBAOE’d the whole room down so fast that everyone was dead before the first person could even whine about it(I played shaman, the other integral class to tag along for this ride, and there where times we’d snag 50 kills before the animation on my disease finished).
The days of games balancing to make this possible are over, and good riddance.
A. AE Stun healers had was incredibly low Radius, you were stupid enough to stand in it’s incredibly small area you deserved to get PBAE down.
B. You had to play smart, If you ran into a zerg and you didn’t Mez ball them and wipe a large number of them, You were probably going to die…DAOC was unforgiving to bad players, hence why someone would complain about AE stun and getting PBAE’d down by it.
Choke Points in keeps/gates/bridges/towers …
When moving out in open field you had to worry bout 8mans roaming around who would mez ball your zerg and kill you in 3 seconds.
It’s why people panned in that game..Cause if you didn’t spread on inc you were dead.
Choke Points exist to allow smaller groups to take out out larger forces.
Smaller Groups should have the chance to absolutely brutalize people who aren’t paying attention to their surrounding.
It’s game is no different from WvW..Only Anet has decided to dumb down their game so that simpletons can compete…
Be it removing class roles/lowering the amount of abilities/or capping the chance to be hit by AOE, it’s designed around being a sad sad toy version of Actual Realm vs Realm.
You might enjoy this kind of combat, I on the other hand find the dumbing down of games to be insulting.
So what was the goal of RvR in DAoC? Was it not to simply control the Relics so your faction would have the buffs to kill the other faction more efficiently and raise your Realm Rank faster to become more powerful.. etc.
In GW2’s WvW, the goal is to control the Keeps, Towers, Camps, etc.. for the point ticks to win the match and move up in rank as a Server.
DAoC was about killing as much as possible. GW2 is about holding points to win the match. The goals are different and thus the core gameplay is different.
The Goal of Holding keeps/towers in DAOC is the same as this game, More power…Teleports (Depending on NF vs Old frontiers)…Where do you think the Orbs in this game came from..They’re DAOC relics..
In fact the difference between the two games is Realm Rank vs World Ranking…
You arguing against mass AOE at chokepoints because the goal of this game is to hold keeps and such for points is silly.. Because no one in DAOC said “Gee, we don’t need any keeps or towers..They’re useless” you want to hold onto your structures in both games.
DAOC just allowed you to do it more successfully if you were a smaller group,
It certainly didn’t reward bad players who stack and bash the number 1 key over and over again. You had to be on your toe’s in DAOC, or you died..This game is rewarding the opposite.
LOL, I’m laughing that this thread has people in it talking about how “If AOE didn’t have a limit, small groups could wipe out big groups with coordinated AOE” and my response would be, Welcome to DAOC for 10+ Years.
Small groups could easily destroy LARGER groups with ease..And that was balanced… Because you could counter it by not stacking up like the current tactic. You spread out and overwhelm them instead of stacking.
The second it becomes more viable to stack in an MMO to avoid AOE the second combat can no longer be taken seriously and the game itself is reduced to joke status.

WARs problem were nothing related to the Bright Wizard AOEing being uncapped, It was related to the Mechanics of the Bright Wizard simply out dpsing everything else in the game with AOE’s…That they could spam.. constantly…
But yea.. this game is a joke till they fix he turtling.
So DAoC’s RvR was comprised of Castles, Towers, and Camps that are by the nature of their design, filled with chokepoints? Or was it more of open maps with choke points in key places as you fought over possession of Relics.
I have the feeling it was the latter. AoE being uncapped and used at Chokes is fine provided that the enemy can realistically overcome the tactic and progress. To progress in this game you’re literally forced through multiple chokepoints in Towers, Keeps, and the Castle. Spreading isn’t an option in taking those and you can’t progress to win without being able to take those.
You’re comparing Apples to Oranges when you consider the goal of the gameplay.
