Stuff he said in that video? Well, nothing really new for me, except that he thinks one has to carry every single match because thats definitely NOT what I experienced.

What I experienced is quite simply EXACTLY what others have experienced on these forums. When you start sliding down a downward spiral, you get teamed with worse and worse teammates against better teams. Sometimes I can carry and then its a close win or a close loss. Once in a while I get a game thats… just astonishingly easy to win, even when I play horrible.
But mostly I get games where all enemy team is my level and above… whereas my team thinks its clever to play 4-1 with two thieves and no support.

The system is broken.

Im happy for him that he didnt have to experience this, but people with less time to play are experiencing this right now.

Doing my best to carry for XX amounts of games, either loosing close or winning… and once in a while just getting kittened over by teamcomp.

Then I play a game totally unmotivated, bored, not even really doing anything useful… rallybotting all over the map because I inc on 2-3 alone…. and its a pretty much clear win.

THATS broken. I played BAD in that game… and I WON. I played GOOD in other games and was rewarded with losses or close wins. Its the fact that… mmr itself is broken beyond repair. Its the fact that matchmaker doesnt balance teams against each other anymore. Its pretty much everything that was already written on these forums over and over and over and over… even WAY before league started when the new system was announced.

You havent experienced that yet? You are lucky. But karma is a kitten, and it will get you… except if you are playing premades only… or already in legendary because… you pushed there with your premade. GG anet. Another season a total failure. Surprise. Not.

Thing is…. one loosing streak (loosing 3+ games in a row) will “adjust” your mmr in such a way, that you are no longer considered worthy of playing with those that BEFORE that loosing streak were considered your same level.

Instead you get struck down and have to win your way up again… with a winning streak of 3+.

Thing is… thats the moment you have to start carrying… and carrying hard… and one loss will set you back to start.

There was a reason why people qued with lesser ranked people last season. Last season when i was in ruby and we had 2 people in our guild in emerald. 2-3 of us were literally winning 1 vs 2 all game. In the bunker meta no less, we literally had about 5 games were we sent 2 far, 2 mid, 1 home and simply camped the respawn and won 500-50.

My guild mates got to sapphire and ruby and the competition got better, then they changed it. At that point i was in legendary 1-2 and my friends who were in sapphire felt the same pain as we were facing Team PZ, Radioactive, GASM among other teams with full legendary players.

People in this game say it takes no skill, spam spam, blah blah blah but the evidence is everywhere. When i can 1 vs 2 the so called average players and then i face ESL level players and lose 99% of the time in 1 vs 1 and 2 vs 2. There is a serious skill gap between the bottom-average-good-great players. But many do not want to accept that.

Do you even listen to yourself?
You smurfed, abused bunkermeta and played premade vs solos and won because of that. So you basically cheated. Played against players that are NOT near your ladder position but FAR below (smurfing), you played as a kittening team against solos and you abused kittened up balancing.
And thats what you decide made you good and those in emerald average.

Newsflash, the only thing that made you… is pathetic.

So I dont get the backpiece… after 3 days of hell, getting matched with scrubs against premades… loosing and winning alternately all the time making progress impossible, no matter how close the win… no matter how unfair the matchup… no matter even if there’s been a kittening afk on my team, or a dc…

Im done. Season two finished what Season one started. Im done with gw2 pvp. Probably done with gw2 in general, since pve is even more of a grindfest.

As long as anet tries to force quick solutions onto absolutely GAMEBREAKING problems (powercreep, matchmaking, no soloqueue) … so long will PvP get worse and worse and worse and worse…. dont waste any more time on something so kittening broken, just because you lived with it for years already.

It will keep on getting worse, that trend has been absolutely obvious for a year now. There will be no “fix” that actually fixes anything. There hasnt been a fix in over 1.5 years worth mentioning.

Read the writing on the wall… and leave rather sooner than later, otherwise you will bite yourself for all the time you wasted on an absolutely broken game.

Grind based so everybody can get to legendary and legendary then is the division where ladder really starts. Divisions before that determine mmr.
MMR gets reset at beginning of each season.
MMR should be based on stats instead of win/loss.
MMR should be split between team-mmr and personal-mmr.

Without boon corrupt scrapper would be even more op. Id rather have more boon corrupt spread to other professions to make them useful – like boon corrupt on shouts for warriors and removing boon corrupt from scepter for that.
But just removing it will make certain builds that are already way op thanks to boon spam even more so.

People like Warlord that want to get kittening carried in stronghold by others getting the proper builds for that map.

A few things

1- By pushing far you make it a numbers game
By playing 3 points you can control the rotating game. This allows people to make decisions in game that make a difference.

This of course means that player that went far actually knows how to get that point and when to just leave it be. Otherwise you dont control and instead play permanently 4v5.

2- Team comp
If you push mid fights and lose maybe your team isnt built for team fights. Acting like 1 person went far doesnt take away from what you do. If you go 1-3-1 and the other team goes 1-4-0 that means the person at home who capped will be going mid soon. This is how the good teams, good pugs, good players in the game carry bad players. It can be impossible to carry in team fights since there is so much weapon and utility skills effects. But if i run far and win the 1 vs 1 and some one from mid comes far and i beat him and the person i killed at far comes off of respawn and beat him. It means at some point if you are even decent you should be able to help a team mate win a point.

Your team looses teamfights -> usually means you wont get 1 coming to defend his close, its 2-3 and the only thing you were able to do is maybe cap far for 5 seconds, or even only keep point decapped. Also, the chances of someone coming close to defend from mid that is squishy as kitten and you can just kill him fast enough for actual close point defender to not make it to close in time… its unrealistic in current meta. So you saying, that you basically go far, kill Nr.1, kill Nr.2 and then kill Nr. 1 again… its a thing that only happens against really really really bad players.
Lets be more realistic here and have engi or druid coming from mid to kill you / keep you from capping. You wont be able to kill those fast enough for you to not end up in a 2v1 situation. Current meta doesnt support that theory at all…. it hasnt worked that way since thief and mesmer nerf.

3-Do you know what you are good at
People all the time peel out from fights too early or too late. If you go mid and see there is 4 and there is only 3 of you there. Can you sustain a point? Do you support your team mates with your skills? If you dont what are you doing in team fights?

People who dont play a far point tend to be players who are not very good. The play only 2 points is a good strategy when you have 2 points to defend.

This thread is about players pushing far too early in the game, or when the time isnt right for it (respawning enemies, mid and close getting attacked and someone standing on far capping it instead of just decapping etc.)
It is about players that constantly make bad judgement calls because “pro’s do it also” or because they simply dont know how to properly rotate. Players that cant read a teamroster and realize what impact a mesmer has on rotations.
Players that constantly ignore party window and minimap and just tunnelvision their thing, no matter what.

There are situations I push far from close. If my team managed to already be down to 1-2 players trying to contest mid. If my team looks fine on mid (full health, nobody got downed yet), but fight still ongoing and not too many enemies on respawn timer. But those situations are very rare.
Most of the time its 4-1, with either winning teamfight on mid and then pull back to defend close/mid against respawners… or loosing teamfight and on to sides / bosses to split enemy team up.
Once in a while I get a team comp that forces me to play sides from the beginning… but then its announced in mapchat (pewpew times without having reflects on legacy/commune map). But thats only a thing if team comp just isnt suited for terrain on mid.
Once in a while I get a really good thief on my team that manages to get far and then moves on to farm respawners… but havent seen more than one of these in like forever.

Mind you… this is about the first few minutes into a match.

Overall with the system, if your MMR is an accurate representation of your skill, you will end up in the tier you belong. Sure, there may be some outliers, but the QQs are mostly about people asking for higher skilled players on their team than themselves to carry them and maintain the 50% ratio from last season. That’s dumb. If your question is whether your MMR is accurate tho, that’s a different discussion.

When will people GET it. MMR has NOTHING to do with skill. It is your winrate during a certain interval with 2 variables that make it look stable but actually just kitten it up even more, because the algorithm used in gw2 is for PLAYER VS PLAYER or TEAM VS TEAM.
It is NOT SUITABLE for soloqueue, since it takes only WIN or LOSS into account. Nothing more. Not how much dmg you’ve done, not how much dmg you received… not how often you rallybotted, or even if you afk’ed the match.

Suffish, you wrote that you leave AS SOON AS ONE DIES. But if one dies that doesnt mean the fight is lost… it however is 100% lost when you abandon that 3v4 in favor for a 1v1 on far. Especially as a druid Im more often than not able to turn around fights on mid that started out with one of my teammates dieing in first push.
You leaving – as a ranger – that fight just because ONE GOT KILLED… thats stupid. And shows a total lack of being able to assessing the state of the fight.

So what you are saying is… as soon as one goes down in a 4v4 fight… you abandon ship and let the other 2 die in a 4v2 fight instead of brazening it out in a 3v4 fight. But sometimes you expect your teammates to pull through a 3v4 fight because you like to have a 1v1 on far.

I think the lords in Foefire should work exactly as the Lords in Stronghold.
They Must be stomped or bled to death while in down state.
They can be ressed.

Add those two things in, and I think things will be a little better.

Glicko2 is your winrate over a set interval with added variables deviation and volatility.
Volatility is there to smooth out erratic player performances (winning games player shouldnt be able to win, loosing games against players rated way below him).
Deviation is a variable to determine how “trustworthy” the mmr is. It basically is a mathematical solution of “something between X and Y”. It should increase the longer a player hasnt updated his rating (hasnt played in a pvp match) because … and thats what makes Glicko so much better than Elo, it accounts for not being able to perform on the same level as before you took a break for example.

But… and here’s the thing… Glicko2 – and mmr – do NOT take skilllevel into account. The mmr is calculated by looking at your… drumroll winrate.
You win, you increase your rating…
You loose, you decrease your rating…
Your deviation and volatility variables influence how much your rating is increased/decreased.

Basket, you admit yourself that you havent really stalled yet. I have. Twice. I was twice at a point where even though I carried hard, and did not loose by much (400+ to 500+)… basically games I didnt loose pips for last season…. I lost pips I just earned the game(s) before that.
A winstreak does NOT negate that. I got a LOT of double pips last season… and even though I lost my share of games, those I felt were close, I didnt loose pips for usually.
That system was better than this streak-system.
Other things were broken last season, as I wrote countless times on the forums (smurfing, stronghold farm, builds, not resetting mmr, tanking mmr). But instead anet went over board trying to fix something that didnt really need a fix. Now the mmr favors large premades vs smaller premades and you get the same players every match thanks to small playerdivisions. I know exactly which around 15 players have the same league position and same mmr than me, because if I dont take a break for one day, I get matched up with them every game.

See, the thing is… Eater of Peeps… you could easily post a screenshot of your last handful of matches on your main and your alt… and proofing with that your statements.
You being WAY too defensive here just screams fabrication.

And guys… there is no place in league where you are “supposed” to be. There is no plateauing as some like to call it. At one point, you hit 50% mmr, then the game starts throwing you together with less good players and/or against better players… 50% mmr just means you get an increase in difficulty, it does not mean you cant get beyond that.

I was stuck for three days in sapphire t3 until just now, getting pips, loosing them again, loosing them some more and now Im on a winstreak again. At one point someone sure would have said “thats where you are supposed to be”…. but its actually not, I played a few more games et voila… knot is unraveled and Im winning again.
With the current system, and the current playerbase, you will hit these snags over and over again. As soon as you hit a certain point, you either have to wait for some players to move on (or log out), so you dont get matched with/against them… or you brazen it out and have to hope to not get an unrecoverable loosing streak.

Also, there are times a day, I simply dont even try to play pvp. Its what I call ‘scrub primetime’ then… and I dont really want to risk it.

insanemaniac, I had two games today with the exact same players on my team… five solo players… Id say, that says a lot about the size of the playerpool.

First off, the current matchmaking is atrociously random’ed together. There is a reason anet doesnt release mmr for each account, because in no way does it reflect actual skill level.

MMR reflects one thing for soloqueuers (majority of gw2 players): luck.

Do you get underrated teammates that will ensure your victories? Do you get stuck with an overrated teammate that will ensure your loss?

Why is that, you might ask yourself. After all, gw2 uses fancy glicko2 as a matchmaking algo.

Well, using glicko2 to begin with is like trying to fit the square box into the round slot.
The reason is quite easy. Glicko (and Glicko-2) were made for either full teams, or single players in a 1v1 environment. They were not made for a mix of both.
Now, anet, in their endless wisdom, thought they could just take glicko2’s teamrating algo, and use it for everything.
Meaning… you queue solo, you play solo… and at the end of the match, you get a team rating. Now, if only all teamplayers would perform the same level, this teamrating would actually be correct. As it is, you however will mostly get some underperforming and some overperforming teamplayers. If you are LUCKY, you get enough overperformers to counterbalance that pesky far-rallybot. If you are not so lucky, you get two or more far-rallybotters (overrated accounts).

So, point one is -> team rating for five solo players results in inaccurate ratings, with players getting either underrated or overrated. Both is toxic for the system, because these error ratings will get more amplified the longer the system is running. Only a very small percentage of players actually meets their teamrating every single match. For those that get overrated, they will have the tendency to always get overrated, simply because they have to play with and against better players. Same for those getting underrated.

Now… on to point two. The same mmr is used for queueing solo, as for queueing as a team. So, you queue with 3 players, 2 of those are really good and play extremely well together. The third one is kinda new to pvp and just does what he is told by his other two teammates. That team goes on a winning streak, with each game’s endrating boosting mmr of all three players more and more. Now that third player logs in on a day when his two teammates are not online, and he queues solo.
Thanks to his overrated mmr, he will have to play against really good players… and chances are high, he should be one of those in team that counterbalances someone with a slightly under-average mmr for this team. He, however, fails miserably, because he now has to play totally different to what he as done with his team so far, and he doesnt have anyone explaining to him anymore what to do…. well, you get the picture.
Now, in theory, the system will slowly – game for game – adjust that players mmr. Thing is… even if he wins only 1 game out of 3, this “adjusting period” will take forever. And he will always be that guy the rest of the team has to carry, until… yes… until he personally adjusts HIS skillevel, to meet his mmr. Funny that… isnt it.

There are several more problems with the matchmaking system that exaggerate the inaccurate ratings even more.
Like, how experience with a profession isnt taken into account at all. Or how close a loss was – a loss is a loss is a loss.

Now… this wouldnt be a good thread at all, if I didnt post my ideas on a solution.
MMR should be based on:
-> personal performance during match (damage dealt, damage received, amount of deaths)
-> team performance (win or loose)
-> ranked games played

As it is, mmr is just a fancy word for your winrate, and that should be changed.

I started pvp on day one and Im now in mid sapphire. I blew through amber as a solo queuer.
I got several winning streaks of 5+ games won. After each winning streak I lost 2-3 games in a row and then started next winning streak.
Only once I got the feeling of not being able to progress at all, when I lost and won games alternating for several games and I always lost really close (400+ to 500). You know, those games you wouldnt loose a pip in last season. That was extremely frustrating there. But even that situation was solved by simply logging out and logging in the next day.

So yes, you can progress as a soloqueuer. Quite well actually.

Just follow the cardinal rule, stated often here on these forums:
Log out, take a break or do some pve as soon as you loose one game! Keep on playing until you loose!

And here’s one more tip for soloqueuers.
Get three professions ready for pvp so you can easily switch between them. Make them so they are able to take different roles. For example, a power-rev, a scrapper and an aurahealer. PRACTICE with those three in hotjoin/unranked until you know exactly which skill to use when and what is your hardcounter so you can avoid it.
THIS is absolutely necessary when you play soloqueue, and it will make the difference between winning and loosing when you are able to switch to aurahealer because your team is lacking support etc. As a bonus… this way you get your 3 profession wins achievements easily.

Also… dont make the mistake of ever doing daily in ranked. Get your daily profession win in hotjoin/rankfarm. Do NOT try to force it in ranked. There’s enough idiots that are doing that already, dont be one of those.

First off, if you are one of the stacked professions, feel free to switch if it annoys you that much.

Secondly, stacked professions says NOTHING about their build. I play a trapper druid sometimes, and having a shout druid and a paladin druid with me on my team isnt anything different than having two other professions on my team, because those builds are that different.

So no, it wouldnt change anything but queuetime.

Actually… pip isnt a “buzz word” its a term mostly used in financial stuff.

I like GW2 patchnotes…. Id like them even more if they were more complete… but well, wishes, horses etc.

I like how GW2 patchnotes are short, to the point and use a formulaic approach. That way you can skip a lot by just looking for keywords / key sentence structure.

The patchnotes are also nicely structured, making reading them even easier. I dont need a dev to explain to me why something was changed, especially NOT in patchnotes. If I want explanations, I expect them from forum posts and – more so – from GuildChat etc.

Those LoL patchnotes you linked, I didnt like them at all, they are cluttered, unorganized and uninformative. They are like GuildChat mixed with patchnotes mixed with a lot of BSing. I like my information source uncluttered by wannabe kitten comments, thank you very much.

Just did CoE and the rewards are pretty fine

Wow, the ability to read and comprehend is really on a decline in this forum.

After the whole run… meaning…. after doing… you know… hard to believe but really… doing ALL dungeons that were commonly done before dungeon nerf each day… you know… like CoE 1-3, TA 1-2, AC 1-3, SE 1+3, CoF 1-3, Arah 1-4, CM 1-3…. I tallied up liquid gold + salvaged stuff. Divided that tally through time spent running all dungeons… and got 1.2g per hour. I did not take tokens into account, because that depends on the level dungeons you run and what you actually want to do with those.

Those drops you are so proud of… they didnt really make a dent at all. You have to get really lucky to get something like a charged lodestone, to make coe worth your time. But then, you have more chances getting one from crafting materials bags you get thrown to death with in hot open world.

Please keep deluding yourself into thinking dungeons are worth your time. It keeps you out of my way while you do them.

When I got fed up with hot meta events, I went and did 2 speed clear dungeon runs with friends. We were fast. And after each of those two runs, I salvaged everything, tallied up everything… and got to 1.2g per hour.

Now that doesnt sound too bad, and you can waste your time ingame even more than on dungeons. But… you can also spend your time at least 5 times more productive in this game.

Just doing centaur events in harathi / kessex / gendarran gives you more rewards.

Sorry mate, face it… dungeons are out, open world is the way to go atm.

I main engi atm, and sorry, but my killrate of warriors is 90%… the rest 10% usually start running when they hit 50% health for the first time and Im just not worked up enough to start chasing.

Is this eq good for pvp?
