I kinda feel bad now, but I really like the new 100 fractal. I like how it incorporates jumping as a dodge mechanic, the special action key, the pace of it.
If I had to pick something that annoys me, its the randomness of some attacks. Theres no clear cooldown on Arkks aoe-orb attack, and no real explanation why some reflect/destroy skills work and others dont. (Cant be only height because guardian shield bubble is high enough, cant be only width because feedback and cpc are the same-ish radius and still they work differently).
And the social awkwardness debuff is just badly designed – period. It punishes one of the main gamestyle mechanics in gw2 (stacking) by forcing you to range. No matter how Anet changes that, in its core, it stays a bad, chaotic and very counter-intuitve design. But that has nothing to do with the new fractal itself.
Im not a big fan of the whole “250+ LI” or “KP” lfg theme that has been going on for some time now, be it for raids or fractals.
In my experience, those with the highest LI requirements are usually the worst groups in terms of skill. But thats just me.
What Id rather like to see, instead of having to hoard guild decorations in my bank (kp + LI now take up 3x 15 slots on my raiding accounts… thats just insane if you think about it), is a statistic, similar to what we have in PvP.
A statistic, where you would see your kill counter per raid boss, the profession/elite spec you killed that boss the most with, how often you died maybe, how many hours you spent trying to kill a boss, stuff like that.
Then maybe make those stats available via api and have a website where you could share those stats and compare them. Use those stats as a way to “measure” exp if you like (freeing up my bank space in the process^^) or just for s&g to show for example which boss is the most often killed one, where people die the most, the most “time consuming” encounter, stuff like that.
And/or let us view other’s stats ingame in a raidsquad.
What do you think? Is something like that even an option?
I did. They are not.
Tempest is support it should not out dps ele core.
Then whats Harmonious Conduit doing in tempest? Why is it only a self-buff if its supposed to be support? Why are most overloads dps skills instead of support skills? Where is the unique group buff every other support build has access to?
And where is the dps boost in last patch to core ele to at least bring it on a level with condi warrior and condi daredevil?
I havent tested power engi yet, but I wouldnt be surprised if core ele doesnt even get out-dps’ed by power engi now.
So basically what you are saying is: its for sharing boring auras that dont give any dps boost in a content thats main goal is to do as much dps as possible?
Now why exactly would I want a build like that in an instanced content where every build has to bring as much dps as possible to the table, be it directly or indirectly through buffs?
See, thats exactly the problem with tempest as support. Even running a support engineer brings just more to the group than a support tempest.
As it is, you have to bring warrior anyway because of banners and EA. Druid anyway because of spirits and spotter. Chrono anyway because of quickness and alacrity.
And every little thing the support tempest can bring, one of those mentioned above already does. So theres simply NO reason to bring a support tempest.
Even if Frost Aura would bring 10% dps increase instead of decrease, it would have to be permanent to even START to consider it.
As I said above… support tempest is only interesting for people that really need a third healer on encounters like Matthias or a second healer on 100CM.
Make Harmonious Conduit a group buff, Fire Aura a dps increase and add a spotter trait. Thats the only thing that would make me consider playing aurashare tempest as support in PvE. Id probably still go for Druid anyway, but without those things? Just not even worth thinking about.
(edited by Yasi.9065)
About all the talks of eles being nerfed, base ele can still pull 33.7k
Not my video, credit goes to Lemon Dealer
Yes, wow… 33.7k on big hitboxes.
And now here’s daredevil on small hitboxes:
Im sorry, but dps elementalist is dead. Lets hope for good dps skills on weaver and play easy spam-daredevil in the meantime.
dat ele bieng good at support and dps in all game modes is a load of absolute horeshit. pvp and wvw suffer from it. more high risk smaller rewards.
From a raider’s perspective:
Tempest healer doesnt have spotter, nor spirits, nor gotl, nor goe, nor other unique important buffs -> its actually worse than using a ventari healer for support.
So it might HEAL like a pro (and in a way thats really easy to play), but thats it. Nothing else.
Aurahealer would need AT LEAST a trait like spotter and a flat dps increase to be even considered in a raid environment to replace druid. Theres just no way a raidteam wants to waive on spotter, goe, gotl, spirits to have a aurahealer.
As it is? Support tempest is persona non grata except with pugs that actually need to play with three healers.
In wvw, the revenant is slowly taking on a lot of jobs the elementalist did in the past. The only thing missing… is putting down waterfields. And frost aura is here actually useful… but then, aurashare doesnt have resistance and dies easily…. so why take more than absolutely necessary of those.
And open world? Why play something that doesnt give you loot in the end?
Pvp, I really dont care anymore about, its dead. Has been for a lot of players since the cheating incident and how anet handled that.
So yes, anet bullied elementalist out of its only useful role in PvE… and for what? To promote Weaver? A profession thats so boring and unflexible it makes Staff Tempest look challenging?
Wrong way to go about it, Anet. As always.
(edited by Yasi.9065)
I hate to point this out, but Anet stopped caring about “high risk high reward” in the beta already.
Just look at condi daredevil atm. Whats the risk there to promote skilled gameplay? Or Warrior in the past?
Tbh, what Ive seen so far of Weaver I really dont like. It forces elementalist even more into a rigid skill-rotation, which is NOT skilled gameplay.
Overall, Weaver just looks horribly unflexible. I really hope Anet offers a REALLY skilled method to switch attunements faster or even to switch into offhand attunement directly.
But after Anet removed Kinetic Battery for engineer, Im not hopeful at all. My prediction atm is rather that Weaver/Tempest/Elementalist goes the way of the Necro (or elementalist in gw1) – might be good if not for all the little flaws that make it just 3rd place in everything.
Cant really see how thats good news.
Now I get to waste even more time on a dialogue that really is NOT worth listening to 10 times.
No, I was referring to not getting the Precision Blade achievement after trying for it for something around 5x 10 minutes… and not making it to 50… then I kill 50 and due to a bug I didnt get it.
Guess what got fixed in that announced patch?
gone… never gonna get them back….
Why cant we just get a repeat mote on every achievement?
These kinds of things just leech any enjoyment I have at doing story things in gw2 away and make – for me at least – every living story release into an annoying chore.
I’d also like to suggest Aetherkey pieces.
I know many will say that they belong on a keyring, but:
- They are not keys, just pieces, and
- People have been wanting a keyring for a while now, it still hasn’t happened, and removing them from mat storage in case a keyring is added doesn’t sound too hard.
Key ring or equivalent is coming soon. Pieces are like sand, just use them and make the keys. Opening Aether chests isn’t worth it nowadays anyway
WHOA WHOA WHOOOOOOA there. A key ring is NOT “coming soon”, please manage your expectations. I have indicated that I would prefer to address keys through a key ring, however, I have NOT found anyone to do that work and it can’t be me personally. Considering that, a key ring is currently in indefinite limbo until I can find someone willing to take it on as a side project.
Oh… I only read “key ring is coming” and got really really hyped. Even more so than reading that the next expansion is coming
As to things that imo could be removed from your list:
—> Usually these items are only bought in a quantity that is needed. I kinda like how you have to go to Miyani and buy them for Mystic Forge stuff, it makes this whole process more hands on and involved. And yes, I do have a portable mystic forge, and yes, I know it would be more convenient. But is it really necessary? Id rather see other stuff in crafting material storage tbh.
—> If you dont plan on drastically reducing the rate of how you gain spirit shards, I dont really see the point in keeping those you are forced to buy in excess because of how they are bundled. And if you really want to keep them, its only 2 bank slots.
—> As someone that is raiding with pugs for fun a lot, Id still keep those in bank slots for easy access to ping. And if there’s too much of them at one point in the future, a way to convert them to Magnetite Shards or maybe buy Ascended stuff with them would be much more appreciated.
Just killed matthias first time this week on my alt acc → no chest, no loot.
Some in squad got their loot, some didnt.
Killed nearly all bosses yesterday after patch on main acc → got all loot.
Its pretty much totally random and unpredictable.
DH for dps isnt bad. But you have to be a good dh. So its not really a good profession for beginners.
Mikali, you dont want to be laughingstock in training runs? Its quite easy to solve. More prepartion, more commitment.
1. Tekkit’s and Woodenpotatoes’ explain videos are quite good to get a good start.
2. Decide which role you want to fill in raids (Druid, DPS, Chrono, PS)
3. Get proper builds for those roles and go training golem until your dps is close to qt benchmarks
4. Back to watching videos, this time your build at every boss. Take note of little things (like chronos casting avengers on sloth by stepping in green with shield block) that help you a lot.
5. Get on training raids.
Just putting up a lfg and waiting for people to spoon feed you every little detail… thats kinda really lazy.
(edited by Yasi.9065)
The argument about stat bonus for outnumbered servers has been going on since well… before the buff even got put on live servers. Its kinda a moot point since anet obviously doesnt want to do that.
More important is, imo, that outnumbered bonus to pips is just way too high. +5 pips? Really? Whereas showing commitment only gives you +1?
Outnumbered bonus should just be nerfed to +1 pip. Done. Not worth hunting for the buff anymore.
As for waiting at spawn for participation degen… how about this… upon leaving wvw your participation still counts as if you were still in wvw, but because you left wvw you cant refresh it anymore obviously. So people that dont want to “waste” the left over participation could just stand somewhere in pve… or do something in pve… and still get the rewards just as if they stood with a macro in wvw…
Basically participation doesnt disappear on leaving wvw but keeps on ticking. Of course you could argue, that that would invite people to get full participation and then jump back into pve. But lets be honest… a) thats quite a hassle and b) wouldnt that still be better than them standing in spawn and waiting for decay?
Simply because of all those PvErs clogging border sitting afk somewhere to get pips I think anet should let the requirement be as it is.
Maybe when they have enough tickets but are way off with rank, they will realize wvw isnt about afking.
If you want to keep your build from the community, you shouldnt post a video.
Just watching the video, I can re-produce your build quite accurately, and I have to say, its not even that new or special.
As for the editing, the long pauses between scenes are tedious. Are you trying to get more vid duration out of it? If its unintended, pls consider speeding up the black out effect and/or not letting the effect go all the way to black. (Dunno which program you use for editing, so cant tell you exactly whats gonna be the best.) The long black screen just makes people mad in my experience.
I spent a lot of time during the last fight looking for my mouse arrow against the background…
It speaks volumes about ANet management priorities that after almost 7 years, the mouse arrow issue is not solved yet.
It a pitty…
Yolomouse fixes it for you. I use it pretty much everywhere it works Its not only anet that decided for a good looking mouse cursor and against a more visible/functional one ^^ Others do the same.
The episode was a bit short, but very intense with lots of surprises.
New map is great. Though I found 2 places already where you can get stuck inside rocks. Doesnt distract from the fun of it though
Artwork is very good. I might not agree with the legendary armor, but doesnt change the fact, that its a unique and beautiful design. Map and story artwork are as always very good.
I like the idea of an option to turn other people’s legendaries “off”, by replacing them with normal weapons – sound, graphics and animation.
Then I could finally again use nevermore without getting yelled at to stop the “kittening ravens”.
Ive started on “The Dreamer” as my next project in gw2, and it is to 99% because of the sound. I like it. I like the annoying whinnying, because its special, its unique. Which, tbh, should be for every legendary.
Imo, most legendaries arent really that special, and for most weapons I actually prefer gemshop skins.
Not “The Dreamer” though. And thats really mainly because of the sound, it makes this legendary really legendary.
Now… I can understand people getting annoyed by it, its like the Ho-ho-tron bells. Once you are annoyed by it, it can really tick you out, because you start focusing on it.
So how about a compromise? I know its not easy to realize, but maybe we could get a slider in sound options to turn down (or up !) legendary weapon effects?
Personally, until we get more information, Im stopping my project right now. Im not gonna spend time farming for a weapon I like because of the sound, just to get it nerfed into nothingness in the future. I already have Nevermore, which Im not allowed to use anymore because of the ravens. Im not gonna risk another legendary to become useless to me.
So, while Im grateful about getting notified about some planned changes, at the same time the prospect of ANY changes to the sound of “The Dreamer” make me just not wanting to have it anymore.
If special sounds arent annoying to anyone anymore, they are mundane background noises, not worthy of a legendary item. Its actually imo the biggest flaw nearly all legendary weapons have. Take Bolt for example. The graphics are nice-ish, the animations are cool. The sounds are boring. Or Twilight. Graphics are supberb, animations really good, sounds non existent.
Its like a dimension is missing with those legendaries.

Please remove this functionality.
There are enough other ways to get back to lobby.
More and more player raging or trolling are abusing this function especially in lower fractals where people are not experienced enough. And it needs only one more player not looking too closely at end of fractal, or misclicking, or simply not KNOWING for the ragekitten to be succesful.
So please, Anet. Just remove it. Its not needed. In all my time doing fractals, (and Ive been playing fractals nearly daily on one account or another since release of them) I only used this function a handful of time.
And if you dont want to remove it, then please. Change. It. So it cant be used anymore when you reached the end of the fractal.
I dont really consider my ele to be “pale”. I just really wanted a smurf sylvari, after seeing that blue color.
The second picture is of my second sylvari tempest, also blue but a shade more towards pale
I feel fairly certain a good percentage of the current toxicity could have been avoided with a few small changes in the ranked system. Such as:
- no rewards for losing = no more afk farmers (or farmers in general)
- min match requirement (which we now have) = less leaderboard manipulation
- no class stacking = more fun matches and no 3-4 of one class & arguing over who won’t reroll
- no daily profession achievements in ranked
I could go on, but I truly can’t be bothered. My care factor lives at about the same level as Anet’s right now.
If it’s not said in a way someone wants to listen to, you can tell them something an infinite number of times regardless how of basic it is. How something is said is probably much more important than what it is said.
When will people FINALLY learn that other players in PvP arent there to TEACH THEM. PvP doesnt work that way. You teach yourself.
You get flamed a lot? Told you are a noob, a useless rallybot? You cant rotate? Then go on youtube, watch videos, go on reddit/forums and read guides. Go train on golems. Go do scrims in custom arenas.
Stop expecting OTHERS to TEACH you. NEVER GONNA HAPPEN.
When will they finally be changed to something CONSTRUCTIVE?
Those achievements cause bad players to play professions they have NO CLUE about and ruin matches for everybody that enjoys PvP.
They either have to go from ranked.
Or they have to be changed to something like “2 wins” or even “2 consecutive wins”.
These daily achievements are bad, worse and the worst.
They run counter to everything PvP is about.
Is it just me or is that skill reverted back to the state it was before bug fix last year?
Its horribly clunky. Takes at least one second activation… and then it jumps to where the enemy WAS instead of where it is now.
Wanna buy Rush bug fix for Dragons Kick.
(edited by Yasi.9065)
I vote for removing that feature.
As long as there is no penalty for stupid behaviour like dieing 20 times in a match, double capping empty points etc, top stats are
b) pointless and
Anyone that thinks otherwise?
… why does it have to be profession wins as daily achievements and cant just be lets say 2-3 wins instead?
Its something that has been an annoyance for me ever since they introduced those daily achievements. Whats the motivation behind it? What is it Anet likes about the idea of players with no clue playing professions they never tried before until they manage to get a win?
I just… wanna understand.
8/10 matches, the team with the most number of guardians will win, that is a fact.
Today was guard daily… so there were like hundreds of them I met today – at least it felt like it
Cant say the team with most always wins.
Havent seen that many decent guards to begin with. Most guards are so easily baited and killed, its kinda funny and sad at the same time.
So what division are you in that you see so many good guards that easily win matches?
The only thing i have a problem with Dh traps are that the traps that are already placed, dont disappear when the skill recharges, other than that, there fine
Agree, same for ranger traps.
- When teammates get into a flaming match with each other and are too busy kittening to even play.
I hate it when people tell me to stop typing in teamchat and “concentrate”. I can quite easily type and move between points. Or chat and hold a point against a less skilled player / less offensive build. Hell, sometimes I amuse myself by pointing out what my opponent did wrong (aka “should have dodged that” or “wasted rebound there mate”).
I always wonder if others saying I should concentrate on the match, are really that bad.
What annoys me, too, is when people yell at me for not helping zerg tranq, when I was busy re-capping and de-capping points. Thats something that really triggers me. Its so obviously the wrong choice to fight for 2+ minutes on tranq and ignore caps going on, everybody should see that. If you cant get it fast, and you are repeatedly wiping down there, just go to points for re-cap.
Hello? You dont get “nothing” for being top 250. You get an awesome title.
First complaining about others whining, then you do it yourself.
If you want matchmaker to prevent profession stacking, then you can only have one build per profession. Its that simple. Its either “byebye build diversity” or profession stacking.
Can’t wait for the next person complaining they don’t belong in their placement and seen after that some statistics and hard numbers! I need a stach of popcorn!
I fail to see the interesting part in those statistics. Interesting would have been seeing the MMR of Links’ teammates and of the enemy team of the matches he lost. Not just a vague “might have had a bad day” conclusion.
Id have been really impressed by some in-depth evaluation, but I gave up on that after season1, when all we got was some percentage numbers without the data behind it.
So yeah, fail to see the interesting part worth popcorn.
So lucky I don’t get to decide on things like this. I would have made the titles worth 10k+ AP just to really rub it in the faces of the AP hunters. Bunch of whiners. If it really meant that much to you, you should just get good and earn the title.
Please, pass me the salt when you are done.
(…) At least it proves how pointless the AP leaderboard is(…)
I wouldnt say pointless. But achievement points only really show dedication to the game, since most of them can only be gotten by playing the game regularly and often are pretty grindy.
(…)So, achieving top position in pvp ladder is actually not an achievement? What?
It is an achievement, and it rewards a title. A pretty awesome title, tbh.
(…)I am incredibly disappointed with that. You’ve basically told players that getting into the top 250 is not an achievement worthy of any points(…)
Killing 500 type x mobs awards more achievement points. I fail to see the big drama, since achievement points dont mean anything in PvP.
How about, instead of getting achievement points on those top 250 achievements, its a chest where players can pick one of the achievement point skins?
As of now I’m at 1137. I guess I have lost count of losses… since every loss costs more than a win. I’ve lost 52% of my games now as opposed to winning 58%. I tried dragonhunter for a couple matches but if I think I’m a crap thief… i’m a worse dh.
Can you record? Im not gonna suggest you post somewhere, but rather, take the time after each match and look at your recording. It always helps me to re-watch and analyze my own matches.
The skill-rating you are at, profession and perfect teamcomp arent as important as lots of players like to believe. Problems arise usually from players being bad, not from comp being bad.
You know you probably wasted about an hour of Evan Lesh’s time.
Time that could have been spent to make the game better.
Instead spent fact checking your lies.
I dont think that time was actually wasted. And I kinda think Evan Lesh knows how to spend his time himself ^^
Honestly I don’t mind losing to better teams. I just hate losing when I’m outnumbered in every fight. Usually due to either afkers or poor rotations. Those matches were you can never seem to find an ally despite rotating between points. You know those matches where you wonder where the kitten some of your times are or what the kitten they are doing.
I mind less losing in a straight up fight even if I have weaker people on my team.
Enemy team saying “gg” when I have a dc on my team.
Is that really what Legend tier in NA is like?!
Edit: I don’t understand why people are so obsessed with their rating and division, it doesn’t matter how much you lose you can still get your wings and achievements.
Im really tempted to buy HoT for one of my inherited accounts and transfer NA to see it.
Might actually do it.
Can you start PvPing instantly after transfer? Or do you have to wait 7 days like with WvW?
Novaan, its actually what I did to keep that rating I went from playing mesmer and kiting like a young god, keeping 2+ busy all the time, but not being able to keep my teammates from dieing to one thief… to playing warrior and killing the thief.
So yeah, thats also a thing. Some builds are just unsuited to carrying really bad players. If nothing dies, you have a really hard time to win matches as a tempest, since you will get outrotated. If your teammates end each match with 20+ deaths, you can be the best roamer… and will still loose.
But thats things that I kinda expect a decent player to know and adapt to, and in my opinion thats part of “carrying”.
Im absolutely sure that I will rise to where I really belong, this season. On each of my accounts. Im not worried about that. Sorry, if my post sounded like the typical “stuck in ruby hell” post, it wasnt meant like that. Just… posts like the one made by Kratos rub me the wrong way. You cant carry to win all the time. And some complaints are justified.
(edited by Yasi.9065)
Thing is, there is a maximum to what you can carry.
The “one pro gamer carry 4 baddies to victory against decent team” spiel is a myth. Never gonna happen. Hasnt ever happened, will never happen.
I was placed below my skill-level (thanks again “drunk norn thief that shall not be named”), and after placement matches I went on a 20-odd winning streak.
Then the weekend started. Matchquality got horrible. Teammates could have been apes and done a better job. But I carried, and carried hard. Did I win all matches? Hell no, but I held on to my rating through it all.
What Im trying to say… you cant carry to a win with all odds stacked against you. There are matches that are just unwinable, plain and simple.
Doesnt mean every match that you loose, is unwinable. But sometimes you can only give it your best shot, and its still a 300-500 loss. Last weekend there was about every 2nd match like that for me. Before friday, I didnt have a single match like that.
Now, weekend is over… the last 3 matches I played, we won. It was close matches. Fun matches. Challenging, but doable. Still some bad players on my team… (trying to kill two tempests on enemy capped point for the whole match, that kind of bad players), but also one or two good players. The enemy teams were pretty much the same, no huge discrepancies.
So yeah… sure, you can carry to victory – within reason.
Im guessing you rose past plat t1 before the weekend. Which makes you rather unqualified to talk about bronze to gold t1 matches during this weekend.
Fact is, matchquality this weekend was most horrid. Hence the increase of QQ threads.
p.s.: please stop overusing the word “tilt”
Most of us just want our ranks and bragging rights and pretty medal (yes, it’s nice to get loot when pvping) But is that why you PvP in Ranked? for the loot?
I literally had a player admit to me in a match that he was just playing for the Ascended gear, that he doesn’t normally do pvp except for loot so he wasn’t really trying. We did lose that match.
I think taking ascended gear out of ranked matches altogether and maybe all loot possibilities will weed out the dead weight players.
Nah, the way it is atm, is actually quite okay. Theres a limit to ascended shards per season, so theres a timelimit on grinders playing PvP, too. Its okay, Im just gonna stick to unranked until the first rush is over.
If you take away PvE loot, you have to award PvP loot. While Id like to see the old PvP armor system back, its not gonna happen, so….
(edited by Yasi.9065)
How about, you go and play that profession exclusively now for the next two weeks and then tell us your “progress”.
Testing something like that on a weekend, with still very inaccurate ratings of the majority of players, for only a couple of hours max. and then making a post about crowing how easy it is … Im not even commenting on that…
Heard about sufficient sample size?
Im playing warrior today, too… why? Because its thief/mesmer daily. Doesnt mean warrior is braindead, just very good at countering badly played thieves and mesmers.
Had one pewpew thief today unload into shield repeatedly and kill himself…. is shield reflect now OP and thief needs a buff? That would be the same as your conclusion.
So burnguard is op? Wait until people learn to not stand in aoes. It already started, Im seeing less and less players die to burnguards. At least in gold t3. Where according to your very premature prediction the majority of the players will be.
Apropos burnguard… one guard today used sword 3 into shield reflect… nearly as funny as that pewpew thief.
(edited by Yasi.9065)
Sure, why not allow port and speedhacks too… and godmode.
As to why its not being “punished”… probably because its difficult to proof, if you “only” chain skills together to one keypress. Not to say its completely impossible, but well… software that detects stuff like that usually costs a lot of money.
(edited by Yasi.9065)
That will mean of course that queue times will go up too.
Lets be very clear here.
I dont care.
Id rather wait 15 minutes for a quality match, than 40seconds for 10 minutes of pure agony.
The problem is, if you want to at least remain where you placed you have to hardcarry people that can’t even leave spawn. I still fail to see why it is ok.
I blame the ascended armor for that. It was nicely meant, but like all things meant well… it just paves the way to hell.
Just look at how on the very first day people already started complaining about how they cant all get those 42 ap.
PvE grinders in PvP are just…. toxic. Nothing new there.
Tbh, we already got enough players only queueing for the rewards and then not really “contributing” (aka standing afk around somewhere after capping one point). At least with it being capped, in a week or so those players will slink away, hopefully.
I’m in the same boat as the OP. Got placed in bronze 2. Worked up to gold 2, and I am now getting locked into gold because I no longer gain enough rating on a win to advance.
How is your matchquality? Lots of blowouts? Or challenging matches that might frustrate you, because you think you should be able to win?
So that means, when I lost huge, I got punished for not carrying players well below my own rating.
Ergo, brackets are indeed too big, or… not even existent. Knowing Anet, its probably the latter.
List some ideas of how anet can let people know that being at around the same skill level as most people out of 3 million or whatever active users is ok.
I think they already did the obvious. Even the worst players in the world get a bronze medal this season. The average PvPer gets a silver, which is pretty generous.
It’s ok to not be in the legendary division which consists of the top couple score people in the entire game. It’s not embarrassing to be in silver, just play your games, get awesome rewards, and try to get better. I see very few people displaying their badges this season.
Id happily wear a bronze medal, if it would mean I get good, challenging matchups. Instead I have a gold medal and blowout matches, that just make me wanna cry. Win or loose. The matchquality is extremely poor atm.
Im not displaying my badge because I never liked it. If I could have disabled showing my badges the last seasons, Id have gladly done that then, too, even though it wasnt anything to be ashamed of.
Just as Id love to disable showing my AP and map completion icon in PvE.
(…) and made it to gold tier 2 where I struggled a bit since I was getting matched with players doing their placement matches probably. Games here were back and forth and a bit frustrating, but I still felt I could go higher. (…)
I can confirm that part. I kinda hit a wall yesterday afternoon in gold t1 after getting there on a winstreak from bronze t3 (thank you drunk norn thief again for that placement -.-), not so much because enemy teams got too difficult to beat, but mostly because my team either had a stupid comp (3 mesmers and then not even good ones), afkers, ragequitters, bearbow rangers, zergmentality, you know… the usual
Stuff Id expected to see in bronze, not in gold.
Some players were clearly unexperienced (double capping close on start of the match… always painful to experience), others knew better in teamchat, but then did the same mistakes they just yelled at someone else for.
It was extremely frustrating and draining. I managed to hold on to my rating, but it was absolutely no fun. And the majority of the matches were clear blowouts (100-500), or really hard won wins against players that didnt know the meaning of “assist”, let alone “burst”.
I really think that:
a) there should be more placement matches. I know, it says less is better…but thats for 1v1 games. With 5 random people against 5 other random people, only 10 matches is just way too much dependent on fortuna.
b) placement matches should be separate, or they should start at bronze level. Averaging everybody for placement matches makes it really hellish for all players around that skill-level (or bad placement luck).
But doesnt that make it a self-fulfilling prophecy? When does it start to increase again?
Why would it start giving you more and more points for beating someone around your level? It will give you more points if you beat higher ranked teams.
But if you beat consistently higher rated teams, it should increase, since you obviously arent where you belong. Otherwise its a huge punishment for having lost a handful of matches at the start of the season.
I mean, even if you lost those matches at the start because of your skill-level. Each players skill-level is not static. What if Im just a bit rusty and now I have to win at least 200 matches to get to where I really belong, matches where I get placed with people that are below my skill-level and that I most likely have to carry.
Since the losses and gains of rating arent balanced, Im guessing even though it looks like ELO rating, it actually is glicko. Then Im also guessing, my gains/losses are tied to deviation variable. But if thats the case, then my deviation should increase again when I consistently win matches against higher rated players.
Now, for me it would be interesting, if glicko is used… or glicko2. Because the former means I can pretty much just stop playing, while the second leaves room for hope
Im guessing the brackets are too big… got placed on a team with players with significantly (several tiers) lower ratings than mine… we still won and I got less than on my last win. I shudder to think what Id have lost if we had lost that match for whatever reasons.
Which also explains why duoqueue is atm so ridiculous effective. On top of being able to coordinate better, it also reduces the randomness of the matchmaker.
