Once again you’re asking a bunch of questions that you could easily find the answers to much quicker by using the Wiki…
Don’t take this the wrong way, winterlove – I love to come to Player Helping Player section of the forum to offer my knowledge to help.
But I have to agree with BioFringe. Many questions that you asked in this section of the forum (and I noticed you have asked many!) can be easily found in GW Wiki. I would also suggest you join a guild – you can then ask them these questions and get response much faster than coming to the forum.
When you see the name on the site and you wish to join his/her party, just do a “/join [name, including spaces, without the square bracket]” (e.g. “/join Captain Marvel”) in-game (any chat channel). You will automatically be issuing a join request to the person if their party is not full, and they can accept or reject you.
Im not sure what you are referring to. Zebee, but im sure there is no such thing as player/guild homes yet…
I would love to have my own home, and a guild hall would be beyond awesome, all my guildies want it really bad!
There is an instance in each character’s racial home city which acts as a ‘home’ in as much as it changes to reflect decisions made in your personal story. You can’t purchase anything or adapt it other than through choices made in your story.
You just blew my mind.. How did I not know this.
I have clocked 700 hours on my account with 3 level 80s, and I never knew this …
And 2g is really easy to make in GW2. Like Orion says, farm CoF. If you have trouble getting into a group to do the dungeon, another way is to farm events at Shelter and Pentinent in Orr. You can rake up enough gold by selling stuff you found there in a few runs.
Your guild should be a community, not just a path to loot. If you attract people that don’t care about the other members, what do you expect :p
This. If your members are leaving just because they want to participate in guild missions (which itself is really boring) to get the commendation (why else would they want), then they are probably not the kind of members you want in your guild. Good way to clean up the guild I’ll say.
Guild bounty missions require you to track a number of bounty (NPC) and “capture” (defeat) them. For Tier 1 missions, the game will ask you to capture 2 NPC (out of possible 15, and they are all found in a standard route in various zones. Finding the 2 bounty and defeating them within 15 mins is very hard with a very small group. Reasons:
1. They can be hard to find as some covers a very large area. You will spend a lot of time finding them if you start only after the mission’s 15 min clock start ticking. For large guilds, what they do is to find those bounties (all 15 of them) first, start the mission, let the game tell them which 2 need to be defeated, and then all guild members zoom in to the 2. This eliminate wasting the 15-min clock finding the bounty. As you can imagine, you need to mobilize lots of guild members to do this. And this is just tier 1 missions. Tier 3 missions will need the guild to defeat ALL bounties within 15 min.
2. The bounty themselves are bosses, and some are very difficult to defeat unless you have a large number of players on it.
I feel for the small guilds as they have will trouble doing the guild bounty missions. I don’t know much about Guild Trek though.
Unless you’re referring to boosting it beyond 33%? Which is only possible as a thief for short amounts of time.
Not correct, every class has a non swiftness source that increases thief speed(some have more than 1 aka traits). Besides that:
1. runes/gear
2. booster
3. food/consumables
I believe Dolan meant speed buff beyond 33%, and only Thief can achieve that with trait Fleet Shadow (50% when stealthed, non-combat). Otherwise, no matter how much you buff, you can’t go beyond 33% for any class, since speed buff do not stack strength except duration.

oh.. build means a patch not like a mezmer or somthin
It depends what you were really asking about. The build (version) of the game, or the build of a particular profession (class)?
Bookmarked!
Thanks for the incredible effort!
As DryHumour said, visit the starter zones of other races. To do that the easy way, get to the Lion’s Arch and use the Asura Gates to gain access to other zones. To get to Lion’s Arch, go to your home capital (Black Citadel in your case) and find the Asura Gate there, which will lead you to Lion’s Arch.
Alternatively, click the PvP icon at the top bar of your screen, and click Heart of the Mist to enter the PvP lobby. There is a portal that leads right to Lion’s Arch.
I agree with Scarn. If you are close to 100% Map completion, complete it to grab your Gift of Exploration. Then you can reroll. It is easy to level to 80 in GW2, and gearing up decently with exotics is not difficult. Oh and if you do want to delete your old Guardian character after rerolling, remember to spend all the karma first
Weapons and armors are almost always soulbound to character, after they are equipped.
Queensdale happened to house a recently very popular event: Shadow Behemoth, where a rare and very coveted loot may drop. So you see everyone coming over to Queensdale hoping to get that loot from Shadow Behemoth.
To answer your other questions:
Experience (and loot) does scale base on your real level (if you were down-scaled in a lower level zone), but not by that much (not comparable to what you will get in the zone of your real level). Still, it is profitable to explore the other low level zone to obtain Map Completion, to have a change of scenery, meet different types of monsters to kill, different jumping puzzles, skill points, vista, etc.
Most of the things you can do PvE, you can solo it unless you want to take on a Veteran or a Champion mob. My advice is to avoid them unless there are others around doing it too. There are enough heart quests and dynamic events in the areas which you can solo, and obtain enough XP to level.
If dying a lot is OK with you, then by all means, level an Elementalist. It is a harder to play profession which demands your attention to your surrounding and constantly on the move while fighting mob(s). But knowing your squishy Elementalist has just pwn a bunch of mobs 2 level higher than you is quite satisfying.
Ummmm if they are a friend of yours why dident they tell you the server they are on ?
You are breaking his heart.
Guardian is not better than Warrior, and vice versa. It all depends on what you like to play, and your play style. Both are melee-oriented profession with some range option.
If you are a DPS-kitten who likes to see big numbers and like to just jump into action and start killing, then Warrior is for you. Warrior generally supports the party by helping to kill mob faster.
If you are more defensive-minded, prefer to manage your health and defense while dishing out nice DPS (think Paladin or Cleric), then Guardian might fit your style. Guardian supports the party with boons and has more support utilities.
Do guardians have AoE’s?
Yes. Guardian has high survivability, hence good to solo PvE with.
Guardian has nice AoE,, hence good to farm mobs with.
I have been running full Knights with Soldier runes, with berserk trinkets and weapons. I think I am quite happy with my survivability and DPS. My Hammer 2 burst is nice, and I survive pretty well in dungeons.
Maybe post this in Elementalist forum and you can get more responses.
Isn’t Heart quest the “traditional” quest you are looking for (do once and done with it)
3. What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
Here you go: http://style.org/unladenswallow/
Try not to think of shield as a “blocking” or “defense” equipment. It is one of the many offhand weapon that offers different set of attack skills. Just as shield, offhand weapons like focus (or dagger, torch, warhorn) may offer defensive skills (like block, protection, condition removal, healing, etc.) depending on what class is using it.
Well I think Guardian is pretty simple to play in PvE (including dungeon runs, except WvW and Fractal). I basically use GS and Hammer for my general needs – GS3, GS2, GS4, switch, Hammer2, Hammer1, then rinse and repeat. Together with Shouts (I use Hold the Line, Save yourselves and Stand Your Ground in dungeon runs, and the Retreat for the speed buff other times) and your virtuous, you are set!
AH/Hammer is still a pretty solid support build. I have been running this build (with slight variations) and provided great support for dungeon runs.
I wear all Knight armor with runes of soldiers (great in survivability and supporting with Shouts), and Soldier/Berserker ring/accessories (two each), and berserker amulet. I use Berserker Greatsword and Hammer, and sceptre/focus for range.
I crafted all my exotics armor and trinkets. I buy exotic weapon off TP and dungeon vendors.
Guardian is more than just a shield – the class has lots of skills to mitigate damages (much more than any other class) and it is actually very sturdy. Very often, my level 80 Guardian survives much better than my other party members in a dungeon run, which consist of Warriors, Elementalist and Mesmer. I hope you will give Guardian a chance and try it.
As far as I know, Shield operates like any off-hand weapon (not armor) – it gives you a different weapon skill slot 4 and 5, and gives you the stats that comes with it. It will only give you “block” if it is part of the skill (4 or 5), not because it is a shield. Note that other non-shield offhand weapon can also give skills that gives you “block”.
You guys realized the last post on this thread was 5 months ago?
Not sure what to you mean by hard time “sticking” with the game. If you have liked it so far, just continue to do whatever you are doing that makes you like the game.
As for leveling, just do the Heart quests in your zone, and join in some dynamic events. Take it easy and enjoy the ride.
Usually, the “per tick” refers to per interval. Condition damage works by apply damage to the victim continuously for a duration, in consistent interval. For example. if the “tick” is 2 second, then damage per tick will be the damage applied every 2 second.
It triggers a Fire nova (like a flame burst. I don’t think it is the field) 5% of the time when you got hit.
Well, those minor runes will help you while you are leveling up. Of course Superior runes are the best, but they are rare and expensive (and you need to be high level to even use it). So the minor (and major) runes are there to help you while you are yet low level.
One thing is the crossed swords icon above their heads. That means aggro on you.
Or anyone in your party. So the surest way to know that the aggro is on you, is when the mob actually chases you instead of others around.
And if Fractals is not your thing, you can always go for Dungeons, which will net you some good cash.
I can’t seem to find answers to this anywhere else, but where does a fresh 80 start getting gear? Fractals? Dungeons?
Couple of the more common ways (I assume you meant end-game Exotics gears):
1. Buy them from Trading Post. Each piece can cost from 2 gold to hundreds of gold.
2. Craft them. Level up to 400 in the craft that creates your armor type (heavy, medium, light) or weapon type, and you can start crafting Exotics (you can buy the recipes from the NPC next to the crafting station)
3. Buy them from Dungeon vendors, using dungeon tokens. You get these dungeon tokens after successfully clear a path in the dungeon in Explorable mode. The dungeon vendors are found in Lion’s Arch.
4. Buy from “cleansed” Temple using Karma. These temples are located in Orr. After the temple boss is cleared, the Temple is opened for business for a limited time. You can then buy Exotics from the Karma merchant located there.
Other less popular ways are getting Exotics from mob drop (very rare), using Mystic Forge to get an Exotic (putting in 4 rare level 75+ equipment) into the Forge). You can also now use Laurels (earned through Dailys and Monthly) to gamble for an exotic at the Laurel vendor.
GW2 is not pay to win – you don’t have to get gems at all to play effectively. WoW on the other hand .. you don’t pay, you don’t play. At all. I don’t see the resemblance between GW2 and WoW in terms of generating revenue.
There is a feature called “Guesting”. You can “visit” other servers for free, and play there on your own or with friends, except that you can’t participate in the server’s WvW. More info: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guesting#Guesting
ANet’s rules notwithstanding, how can you be REALLY sure you will not be scammed? As in, you sent the item, and not getting the gold. Or how can the other person be sured he is not scammed, sending you the gold but not getting the item?
Yea celestial doesnt have much heal power and stats are crap i hope people will join this post so a net developers team can read it and know that some classes got no stats in ascended gear while others got plenty which isnt fare or balanced<sry for my poor english yet again>
If is not against any class per se – some other classes with specific builds also are looking for healing. Like someone said, the stats will come later as ANet adds more.
If anyone is charting, I was on MF 24% (no MF gears), and I got 3 exotics during my last 1 month run in shelter/pentinent farming, which I do about 1 to 2 hours a day. Before that, no exotics from temple boss (3 bosses), dragon chests (I only did dragon once) or anywhere else. I also got 1 exotic sceptre while running CoF p1 (i only ran 5 or 6 times so far).
IMO, you generally lose money if you are thinking of crafting stuff to sell on the Trading Post – you are better off selling the materials that craft those stuff directly because you will earn a profit.
Crafting for most people, is a way to level their character, and to craft exotics for their own use (or for their friends). In fact, if you don’t want to level that quickly, don’t do any crafting. Most gears you want to craft can actually be bough cheaply from the Trading Post (cheaper than if you would craft them yourself).
I actually made money while crafting, amazingly enough.
I bet if you sell those mats individually instead of crafting them, you earn a bit more.
I’m new, and I’m wondering. What’s the best way to level? I’m having fun and all this, but it seems the leveling is a bit harder and slower. (I’m used to playing WoW)
You get XP for almost everything, sometimes without even noticing. You get XP from killing mobs, completing quests (Story, Heart Quests, Dynamic Events), resource gathering, crafting, discover a new area, open up a new waypoint, etc.
Also, I just need help on the Crafting. I’m seriously finding it hard to find veins, or things to gather for it (Maybe I’m looking too hard?) and I’m wondering really, is it worth doing early-on?
Gathering is always worth doing because you always get XP from them. The only thing is you need to spend silver/copper to get the gathering tools. But it is worth it. Gather everything!
Crafting on the other hand – it depends what you want. The aim is to get to the max level in crafting so you can craft end-game stuff (which are also available other ways), and get XP while you get there. If you don’t want to level too quickly, don’t craft. You can easily get gears of your level from the Trading Post, and it is cheaper then if you would craft them yourself.
And, is there an easy way to make money? Or should I just worry about that later game? ‘cause back onto the Crafting talking, they sell supplies I noticed, and they’re kinda.. expensive. To me, at least, because I haven’t seen much of the game, and I know from experience in WoW, that in MMO’s, gold is important.
Well, gold (or silver, copper) is important in GW2 too, among other currencies available. There are lots of way to make money – play the Trading Post, gather materials and sell them, vendor off equipments you find, run dungeons, complete maps, etc.
Also, did I pick too hard of a class-thingy? I chose an Engineer, and it seems cool! But as you know, I’m used to WoW, and it seems a bit on the harder end. Not to say it’s not fun, but just wondering.
As long as you are enjoying it and having fun, don’t let that stop you! On the other hand, you do have 5 character slots available, so play other classes and get a feel.
And lastly, I’m confused about PvP. So I hear there’s WvW, and I know NOTHING about that. Are all of the races friendly? Like, if you see a Charr as a Human, would they be an enemy? Is WvW the only PvP? Is there like, a PvP currency, like there is in WoW?
All races are created equal (except the way they look .. and some racial skills). There no sworn enemies between races. WvW is essentially server versus server fights that occurred in separate maps. In WvW, it is possible to see large scale fights such as 20 vs 20.
There is another game mode called PvP, which is a battle between two teams of players. They use different rules from WvW. You can see more info in GW2 Wiki site.
Oh, and one more thing! I heard there’s dungeons in this game? How do they work?
As you attained certain level, you will receive a message that says a dungeon is now opened to you. dungeon is an instance map where a team of 5 players can run. They have the usual storyline, boss fights, traps, puzzles, etc. You get the usual drops from bosses, mobs, and more importantly, dungeon tokens (explorable mode) which you can accumulate and exchange them for exotic gears.
There are two dungeon mode: Story and Explorable. Explorable mode is open to you only when you have completed Story mode. However in a party of 5, as long as someone already done Story mode, you can tag along in explorable mode as well.
Lots of information are available from GW2 Wiki site http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Main_Page. So take some time to read up.

Well, it is fairly easy to level to 15 to 20, and by then, you will have a pretty good idea how the class plays out. You have 5 slots, so feel free to experiment. Remember, getting to level 80 is not the point of the game (which is fairly easy to get to). Spend time experimenting. If you want to see how your class fare at end-game level 80, visit The Mist and you can experiment to your heart’s content.
If you are looking for OP gears progression beyond level 80 (and see this as one of the enjoyments in playing MMO), then I am afraid GW2 might disappoint you.
Gears basically capped at level 80 – meaning that apart from different combination of stats and different skins, there isn’t any “higher” or more “OP” gears to obtain. Ascended gears which came out over the last few months has slightly higher stats – but really just “slightly”, to help scratch the itch of those who likes to grind for more OP gears just so that they can have “Best-In-Slot” gears.
And obtaining the end-game exotic gears are fairly easy too – you can craft them, you can buy them with dungeon tokens or karma via dungeon or Temple, respectively.
As someone said, gears does not matter (that much). Traits and skills plays a big part on how you play your character, and how “powerful” you character is.
Here’s something that helped me got started when I first play GW2:
Write up is rather old and I’m not sure if some things already outdated. But it is a good starting point.
Here’s another (GW2 New Player Handbook): http://www.bob-guild.net/gw/page.php?69
yea what Cris Croix said is right
Took you almost 5 months to reply. lol
Hi Yashi, given your stealth-intensive build, how useful could Hidden Thief be, for that extra stealth option? I am running a similar build, except i got 10 points in Trickery trait for Kleptomanic and Thrill of the Crime, and 10 points on Deadly Art for Mug. My build: 10/30/20/0/10
Need to post something. The stupid forum doesn’t show me the entire thread and I am stuck at the edge of page 1 after returning from a link ….
