Personally speaking, I would split the Map Completion into PvE and WvW/PvP. Fully mapping one of either gives you one Gift of Exploration, so at the end of the day you still get the same number of Gifts, but you can just stick to the area you enjoy.
ANet obviously wants a Legendary to be a visual representation of a player’s “mastery” of various aspects of the game (although the fact that you can just up and buy a Legendary on the TP kinda negates that). With that in mind, you can be pretty certain that WvW/PvE will continue to be required to make one.
Personally speaking I WOULD like to see players being able to earn a Legendary purely through doing the game mode they enjoy. Some things I would do:
1. Split the Map Completion into PvE and WvW/PvP. Fully mapping one of either gives you one Gift of Exploration, so at the end of the day you still get the same number of Gifts, but you can just stick to the area you enjoy.
2. The various dungeon Gifts can be bought/sold on the TP. (If Precursors and Legendaries can be sold, why not the Gifts? I am a strong believer in everything being able to be sold via the TP.)
More than likely ANet will include some other way to get the Zealot/Keeper stats after Origins of Madness is over. However, it will probably be on the same sort of system like a yearly recurring event (similar to the Bazaar and the Celestial recipes).
The Origins of Madness meta achievement is not easy to get if you’re a casual player or in a low pop server. From that perspective, I’m glad that ANet has kept Boss Thumper around for a whole month so people have plenty of chances to complete the meta. (Especially so given the recent crazy lag/disconnects people have been having at Mari.)
That said, I do agree that some variety in the daily achievement would have been nice.
The specialist guilds like TTS and TxS will continue to do the Wurm; they were formed specifically to tackle challenges like this and Teq. However, unless ANet buffs the Wurm’s rewards, I doubt even the big servers like Deso and BG will continue to do him for much longer. Most players now are just doing him for the achievements and their “first time” kills; once that’s done interest will fade away until it becomes like Teq, mostly abandoned on the majority of servers.
While I’m a bit sad that this bug pretty much invalidates all the previous Wurm kills, it’s good to see that people are stepping up their game and tackling the new challenge.
So does anyone know what the “balance tweak” was that ANet mentioned?
Yep, it was introduced as part of Flame & Frost. You’ll find similar other letters scattered in Dredge and Flame Legion territory throughout the world.
I’ve still been getting this issue intermittently over the weekend, although yesterday the game was mostly playable. The one exception was when I tried to do a Mari fight, and many, MANY people in the district were getting crazy lag and constant disconnects. It’s definitely something to do with network traffic; perhaps there’s a faulty or failing server somewhere.
I suggest that when people experience this lag again, do a /ip in the chat window and record the IP address, then post it here. Maybe we can narrow it down to a particular server or servers that’s the problem?
Yes. Something in the Feb 4th patch broke melee minion AI again. Ranged minions still function perfectly well, but melee minions often do not attack unless you:
a) Are attacked in melee yourself (ranged attacks on you don’t trigger a response)
b) attack an enemy in melee yourself
c) command the minion to use its skill on the enemy (e.g. Haunt, Charge), after which it will then attack normally.
From observation, it seems that the bug is linked to the melee minions “aggro circle”, which has been greatly reduced in the Feb 4th patch. Enemies that are outside this circle do not get attacked.
Err, the same place you buy everything else; the Trading Post?
They drop from the big chest after defeating the Marionette, or rarely from the chests inside Scarlet’s Secret Lair.
And of course, you can buy them off the TP.
Keep in mind that every single wurm kill by deso and blackgate have done the exact same thing. There is nothing inherently wrong with what we did, because it is almost literally the only way to win currently. The coordination needed is still immense.
Really? Hmmm… While Deso/BG/TTS still deserve mad props for killing the Wurm, I’m actually somewhat worried by that revelation. Exploiting the scaling mechanic by pushing the Wurm outside of the event area is the same sort of “out of the box” strategy like the Embers tactic for Tequatl (that got nerfed, as we all know). That tells me that ANet likely does not approve of this tactic and it will be fixed in the future.
I use Drake and Devourer pets in PvE. Drakes are quite tanky, deal good damage, and have a blast finisher (although it’s often hard to time it well with your fields. Easier in dungeons with a party when there’s fields everywhere).
Devourers are also remarkably tough (maybe even more than Drakes despite their lower HP pool), can attack from range, and they have a 3 second evade skill which makes them excellent aggro bait for Champs and other tough foes.
Apparently the 4th Feb patch also made it so you can’t get into the prison anymore.
You think that’s a lot? Try 7500 Bloodstone Dust.
(Of course, it wouldn’t be so bad if I could convert them to Bloodstone Bricks. I really need to get someone up to 450 crafting.)
I thought they’ve killed Wurm before already? O.o
GW2 always had the five races planned for release, ever since Eye of the North in 2007. It looks as if tengu were going to be an add-on race for a Cantha expansion that has yet to materialize for a variety of reasons.
No, the Tengu were actually planned to be a 6th playable race at release (I believe it was actually mentioned in the GW2 artbook that came with the Collector’s Edition), but they got cut due to lack of time.
Thanks for the info, Gaile.
I’m not sure if it’s related or not, but is that bug linked to the massive increase in lag and disconnects that I and many other players have been experiencing lately?
I’m still of the opinion that the toxin is meant to be used on something other than us though. I doubt it’ll be used to poison the ley-lines as some have suggested, because how would one poison magic with a physical toxin? I still think that there’s something deep under Lion’s Arch that Scarlet wants to dig up, poison it to weaken it, then kill it.
That camp has always been empty when I went past it, even before the Living Story started.
I wonder how much tears there would be if you had to beat all SAB worlds in Tribulation Mode to get a Legendary… -evil grin-
Agreed. The top-level salvage items would be the best subject for this. I look forward to the results of your research.
Again though, I cannot in recent memory remember ever getting bonus ore (NOT bonus strikes, that’s a different thing altogether) from ore nodes using the Molten Pick. People are claiming it happens, but my own personal experience is not bearing this out. So, there’s three possible scenarios here:
1. I’m just extremely unlucky (like, astronomically unlucky) and not getting any bonus ore at all, despite getting bonus strikes all the time.
I’m inclined to disbelieve this scenario, because prior to picking up the Watchwork Pick for my mule that’s perma-parked in my Home Instance, he was using Steel Picks to mine the nodes there and he never got bonus ore from the Copper/Silver/Gold nodes either. (Gemstones, yes, but no bonus ore.)
2. The Molten Pick is bugged and not giving any bonus ore on strikes, whereas normal picks would. (In which case, this is a MAJOR bug, ANet!)
3. People are confusing the bonus gemstones given from mining ore nodes in their memory with getting bonus ore, or the ore was actually given out through bonus strikes rather than a 2 × 1 ore per strike.
Mmm, well, I’ll keep an open mind. After one night of my standard (mapping + harvest everything) gameplay, and keeping a careful eye on my harvesting, no bonus ores were given while harvesting Silver, Iron, Gold or Platinum nodes. (This includes one Rich Platinum Vein.) All of this was done with the Molten Pick.
As to Orichalcum nodes, I run Obsidian Sanctum once every day and always harvest the nodes in there. The normal Ori nodes have always given me 3 Ori total (discounting bonus strikes); considering I farmed almost 1000 Badges of Honor purely from Obsidian Sanctum, the odds of me never getting 2 ores from a single strike seem astronomical to me. The only exception to this is on the rare occasion when a Rich Ori Vein shows up in there, and it gives you 4 (the first strike gives you 2 Ori instead of 1).
Again, all this Ori harvesting was done with the Molten Pick.
Plus I also think that the various salvage garments have an intrinsic chance to drop more of one material than the other. Shredded Garments only ever salvage into Jute, as you pointed out. Worn Garments (the next tier up) primarily salvage into Wool, but do still occasionally salvage into Jute.
If Evon were TRULY concerned about the safety of LA, he’d make the new weapons available for use to us adventurers free of charge. -hint hint-
But can the Tengu actually fly though? I don’t think we have any kind of proof that they can (and iirc they don’t have any kind of wings).
I think they are more like penguins, birds (like creatures) that can’t fly.
Tengu are flightless birds, yes. But they do have an affinity for ranged weapons and are said to be expert bowmen as a general rule. (Thus, air defences.)
But more than that, the Tengu have basically stayed out of all major conflicts since the start of GW2. That suggests they have plenty of manpower and resources to lend to the defense of LA should they decide to break their isolation. (And since they DO still trade with outside races, it’s not like their economy would be in total shambles either.)
As to the Hylek as a playable race, they have their supporters, but I think the one race that nobody seems to want to play are the Dredge.
People also often forget that Warrior also has Kick and Stomp. XD I admit that I brought all three with me when getting the Golem parts just to discourage people trying to gank me.
Oh, and also Hammer for the pushback on skill 4.
Turning it into a guild mission would be impossible in terms of lore. It will more than likely be turned into a scaled-down fractal.
I disagree about that. We likely can’t have the actual Marionette battle back, but if the Marionette and its supporting UFO crash into Lornar’s Pass, it could become a new guild puzzle where players battle through the ruins of the UFO to shut down the lingering security systems before they reactivate the Marionette (culminating in a boss battle where we fight just the head).
It was actually more or less fixed some months ago, but yeah, something in the recent patch has broken it again. Melee minions do not engage in combat unless:
a) YOU actually engage the enemy in melee
b) the enemy is right next to them.
I somehow think you’re not gonna get a lot of sympathy if you’re working on your 6th Legendary, Dempsey. XD
Sylvari are pansexual. They love others for their character and their personality, not for what their genitalia looks like. In some cases this leads to heterosexual pairings, and in some cases this leads to homosexual pairings. We do not have enough data points to say whether or not either is more prevalent than the other.
In any case, you can rest assured that Sylvari, unless they’re Nightmare Court (in which case you’d be in much deeper trouble), would never force their attentions or desires on you if it was unwelcome, so your fears are unwarranted. To be honest, it sounds like you’re panicking over a non-existent threat.
Sex and love are, and have always been, part of the memorable stories and relationships throughout human history. To remove them altogether would be to do a disservice to storywriters and to what makes life such an exciting place to be.
If Scarlet was hunting for Primordus though, she might not be specifically looking for the CTC. After all, Primordus could have easily moved to a new location after his awakening. And the only reason that the CTC was built where it was was so the gates could be powered by the magic radiating from Primordus.
Although… I suppose it could be that the gates were working off leylines all along, and Primordus just happened to choose that spot to go into slumber because, hey, big bounty of magic to consume when you wake up!
I would NEVER do that!
I’d disguise it as part of an elaborate chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Can’t see anything from under the bed.
Eh, I watched the lesser-known Voltron series that was comprised of 15 smaller vehicles. I’m not that attached to the 5 lion version.
…
As a Voltron fan, I can’t bring myself to downvote that idea. XD
I wish we could go inside and have a look.
Um, to see the black curtains, of course. -cough-
You need 250 Badges of Honor + 100g for a Commander tag now.
Honestly, I’m surprised it hasn’t already been locked anyway. It’s pretty clear by now how people feel about it anyway. It’s been hashed out, discussed and argued to the point of absurdity, and I don’t think more than a handful of opinions have been altered in the least.
This thread is not about trying to change anyone’s minds though. It was just supposed to let ANet know that some of us have concerns about the Watchwork Pick, and what it might mean for future gem store tools. We want a response from ANet about it, and while there are already (several) threads about it in the BLTC forum, this one is here because the General Discussion forum gets more traffic from the devs (including some top level designers), and hopefully someone will get back to us.
I expect to see that Aetherblade fleet raze the city (what air defenses?) Then that drill is going to do to Lion’s what the Great Collapse did to the Canthan district.
Drill goes all the way to the Depths of Tyria; down to the leyline that Primordus is snacking on. Sea of Sorrows floods in, Primordus and Destroyers are forced up to the surface. Marionette (+improved toxin) vs Elder Dragon. Round one.
Fight.
I personally suspect this is what is happening too (although why would Mordremoth, or whoever’s in Scarlet’s head, want to attack Primordus?).
Pet wish? I’m keeping my fingers crossed that all of this chaos right on the Dominion of Winds’ doorstep finally spurs the Tengu to open their gates, shoot the Aetherblades out of the sky, and they join the world as the 5th playable race.
Think about it: if things are so dire for LA, what better way for massive reinforcements to come in in the form of an entire race of skilled fighters who have been staying behind their walls all this time?
Guys, I know that this is a heated and divisive topic, but please let’s tone it down on both sides. We’re getting awfully close to getting this thread locked too.
Are we all absolutely sure that ore nodes can give:
Ore
Ore
from a single strike? (Outside of Rich Iron Vein’s 2 × 1 iron ore)
Because while I frequently see:
Log
Log
from harvesting trees, or:
2 Carrots etc.
from harvesting plants, I cannot remember ever getting extra ore in a single strike from ore nodes, aside from the “bonus strikes” granted by the WvW Gatherer bonus. I always presumed that this was intended since Rich Veins exist and no equivalent node exists for trees and plants.
Hmm, I’ll have to pay more attention when I’m mining ore then, but I’m still quite certain I haven’t gotten bonus ore like that before. I harvest EVERYTHING I come across, and while I do notice the bonus wood, I haven’t ever noticed the bonus ore (this is all with the Molten pick), which strikes me as odd.
And here I was thinking that the poor lion statue is going to get destroyed yet again. XD
Nah, it’s going to be Canach. Like Aajolea says, his talk about redemption and clearing his debt, plus that off-hand remark about how somebody could buy his billet and allow him to work off his debt, pretty much guarantees that somebody (probably Kiel or Marjory) will do this in the very near future (most likely when LA is attacked).
Whatever happens, I’m certain that Canach will play a part in it. That whole off-hand remark about how somebody could buy his billet and allow him to work off his debt just screams to me that somebody (either Kiel or Marjory is my guess) will be doing that very shortly.
Also, the dialogue with Marjory in the Dead End reveals that more recent toxin samples are immune to Marjory’s antitoxin, suggesting that Scarlet further refined it after obtaining the antitoxin/injector so it’s no longer stoppable. So it WAS the poison she was after, not the antidote.
At the same time though, why would she need a toxin that’s so deadly when she already has overwhelming forces AND a super weapon? I do agree with your theory that Lion’s Arch itself is not the target; all her armies and her super-toxin and her giant Aethercannon are intended to kill something else. Something very big and very powerful, that would need to be gravely weakened before the Aethercannon could take it out.

I do not like skipping. But some stuff I skip. For example. snowbound fractal, after destroying the elemental. The next part I skip. Mobs don’t give loot, the patrols are far apart. Skip.
Actually, the Svanir/Wolf mobs after the elemental DO drop loot. It’s only the endlessly respawning Svanir at the big campfire that don’t.
Is there a group for players like me who like to genocide all enemies in the dungeon, but isn’t opposed to stacking if that’s the safest/smartest way to deal with a boss? (Whether it’s melee or ranged doesn’t matter. Sometimes sticking together so the boss’s attacks all go in the same spot so players don’t run around like headless chickens and die IS the best strategy.)
Note that I do oppose glitching out bosses like luring the Mossman into the water so he stops attacking. That smacks of exploiting to me.
