Oh, I know that, Behellagh. The greater context of the argument was over somebody’s suggestion that ANet should allow players to “upgrade” their Molten/Bone picks for 200 gems to also get the bonus Sprockets, but that would effectively mean they paid 1200 gems compared to the 1000 for the Watchwork Pick.

Hey, I’m not complaining. My characters are just now starting to map the level 50-60 zones, where Linen tends to drop from lootbags and salvage. Most of it will be converted to Bolts for future Ascended crafting, but given my slow pace of play, I imagine I’ll have plenty of excess for resale after I’m done.

Yep, I like my “Giants/Risen Giants always drop a Giant Eye on death” idea. They’re so rare that even this change won’t suddenly flood the market with supply unless hundreds of players start camping the events that spawn giants (and given the generally low demand for Giant Eyes despite their crazy scarcity, that’s not likely to happen).

I’d take a reduction of Immobulus to 100 Giant Eyes too, but increasing the drop rates would probably be more fair than reducing the crafting cost.

Fair enough. For me, the animation was a nice bonus (and I do think it looks better than the Bone Pick. The Watchwork Pick is about as appealing as the Molten Pick to me in terms of aesthetics), but the major reason I bought it was so I wouldn’t need to bother with buying mining picks ever again. Or bother with swapping pcks in higher/lower level zones.

Considering the Watchwork Pick can do this AND give me extra goodies into the bargain, if I ever needed to equip new alts with picks, I’d be buying the Watchwork Pick, not the Molten one.

Molten Alliance Pick Bonus Items?

Zaxares.5419

I’m afraid that’s where you’re wrong, Darc. Yes, they were initially sold for 800 gems back during Flame & Frost, Secret of Southsun and the Aetherblade Pirates release. People who bought them during their initial releases paid 800 gems.

I’m not wrong, the Molten Pick never sold for 1000 gems. The Bone Pick did when the upgrade was announced, but not the Molten Pick.

I did some more research about it, and yes, you’re right. The Molten Pick has only come back twice since it was first released; once during the anniversary sale (during which it was still only 800 gems), and once during the 2014 New Year’s sale (when it was bundled with the Aetherblade axe and Consortium sickle for 2850 gems).

So yes, those who bought the Molten Pick before the change to Account Bound only ever paid 800 gems. I was wrong about that.

Nevertheless, I still stand by my stance that the new baseline price for the Pick is 1000 gems, as evidenced by the price during the New Year’s sale.

Necro's minions good or bad?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zaxares.5419

As I do not PvP, my experiences apply to PvE only. There are some situations where minions are not ideal (usually in dungeons or Fractals where you want to specifically control where a boss goes or who it attacks), but on the whole minions are a great choice for PvE. Properly traited, they can steamroll just about anything in the open world, and let you solo a great many Champions.

I know that MM’s can be a frightening force in large numbers in WvW, although I’ve yet to see this in person. In general though, MM’s make poor choices for joining a zerg since the sheer amount of damage you encounter in zerg vs zerg combat just melts your minions like wax.

@Tobias: I agree that the “slippery slope” arguments are all conjecture at the moment, but I remain convinced that, having set this precedent, ANet will now have to maintain or exceed what the unlimited tools can offer for future versions, because otherwise players will now see it as being “of lesser value”, and just won’t buy it. Since the Watchwork Pick is objectively better than the Molten Pick, who would ever buy the Molten Pick again if they re-release it?

^ In addition to those excellent reasons, one other reason why Warden III sometimes fails is that people who are slow loaders warp up to the platform… right into a bomb or the Warden’s one-shot leap. If two or more players fall victim to that, barring a lucky Warbanner res it’s very difficult to recover from it.

As for Warden III’s bombs, I find it very annoying that they don’t have an AoE radius either, but you can kinda compensate for it by watching the order in which they spawn. After a bomb blows up, immediately run into that spot; it will be safe for the rest of the bomb pattern.

Of course, the Warden’s leaps and the Mari’s lightning can complicate matters. This is a boss where it’s actually PREFERABLE to have a Bearbow (or another tanky minion/character) to keep the Warden busy in the center so he’s not chasing players around.

long throwing in keg toss/aegis in crab toss

Long distance keg throwing – Yes, it can be done, but it’s actually not as easy as you might think. I can pull it off only when I’m on the red team, and only when the keg lands in a specific initial spot. It’s also countered by dazing the opponent to interrupt him, or just jumping in front of him so you intercept the throw.

Aegis in crab toss – This is very annoying, I agree, but once the Aegis is removed (and the Guardian gets hit by an attack), it doesn’t get re-applied. It does need to be fixed, but it’s one of those lower priority bugs.

Mystic Forge Recipe: Immobulus

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zaxares.5419

Thankfully it’s because the skins created with Giant Eyes are not very popular.

Immobulus – “Sparkly hearts n’ stars wand”. Just like the Wintersday Princess Wand, most players eschew this weapon because of how “girly” it is. (I want one, but I’m in the minority, it would seem.)

Lidless Eye – “Creepy giant eye wand”. Good for a Necro, but not very appropriate for other Scepter wielding classes. The 250 Powerful Blood probably also discourages a lot of people.

Melandru’s Gaze – A rather plain looking staff skin, IMO. The relatively low price suggests this view is probably shared by most players.

Wall of the Mists – Most players I’ve seen don’t seem to want glowy pink/purple weapons unless they’re Mesmers (which can’t use Shields). The skin also shares the same base appearance as the Ghastly Shield, so players who like the look could just get that instead.

If you don’t believe that, or adhere to the “this is WvW! If it’s red, it’s dead!” line of thinking, go into the Arena and start attacking duelling combatants. See how popular that will make you.

If you called a store to make a complaint about how you weren’t satisfied with their product, would you call being stuck on hold for hours and being transferred between departments a “response”?

Anyway, wasn’t Gaile’s response from the thread about the change from soulbound to account bound tools? It doesn’t have anything to do with this issue at all.

The best we can do is continue to keep ANet aware that this is an issue we are deeply concerned about, and that if they HAVE made a decision to keep the Watchwork Pick as it is and/or continue on this trend as before, then they need to let us know so we have closure and can move on/adjust buying behaviour appropriately. Time to deliberate your decision is all well and good, but keep us in the loop; if it goes on for too long then it starts to build resentment and a poisonous atmosphere of “they don’t care about us!” that feeds on itself.

Fix for current dungeon meta

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

This will definitely get moved to the Dungeon forum.

But that said, the following are my suggestions to get people to fight more and skip less in dungeons:

1. Currently, most enemies in dungeons tend to be Elites, which take a fair amount of time to kill for not necessarily better loot. Perhaps ANet can look at scaling down most of these enemies to Veterans, and most of the Champions to Elites (except for named foes, which always remain Champion or higher). Legendary foes in a dungeon (like Kholer) also get bumped down to Champion status unless they are particularly noteworthy foes from a lore or gameplay perspective. The boss at the end of dungeons is always a Legendary foe.

As a side benefit, this also makes foes less dangerous so there isn’t as much focus on “killing the enemy before they kill us” strategy which should help address the overpopularity of the Zerker meta.

2. To buff the loot from foes, Veterans now always drop a Loot Bag appropriate for their race/type, plus possible additional loot. Elites will always drop a non-Exotic Champ bag, plus possible additional loot. (These changes apply to the open world too.)

3. Players can still skip dungeon events (I’m talking about bonus events as well as main events like fighting Kholer) if they really want to, but if they complete all of the dungeon’s events, they get a bonus daily chest containing 1+ Rares (with a chance for it to be an Exotic), coin and tokens. This chest is given out once per path per account per day.

4. Introduce a “Dungeon Conqueror” title for killing every single enemy in a dungeon path in a single run (aka “vanquishing” for you GW1 vets. ). You have to vanquish all paths in each of the dungeons to get this title. (Since enemies in dungeons do not respawn, this should be feasible where it wouldn’t be in the open world.)

Questions about difficulty aside, I still don’t see why we can’t have mega-boss events like Tequatl and the GJW scale for smaller numbers of people. “Harder” does not necessarily mean “throw more people at the problem”. With proper scaling, you can have a hard, challenging encounter at 10 people as it is for 100 people. The difference is that smaller servers would still be able to take part too, and there’s less emphasis on having to show up to the map hours in advance to camp out.

in Elementalist

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

As coolmanx mentioned, a “pure healer” Ele is usually not required or desired as the meta is currently geared towards killing enemies as fast as possible. (Not something I agree with, but that’s the way GW2 has evolved.) If you do nothing but sit in Water Attunement in dungeons, other players will get fed up with you quite quickly.

That said, you can still trait for “healing” while still providing offensive and support power. As coolmanx recommended, go for Cleric’s armor and weapons, and then a mixture of Cleric’s trinkets with whatever else you’d like to boost. Don’t just sit in Water Attunement; rotate through your attunements and switch to Water only when you see your party needing cleanses or healing.

I still don’t feel comfortable leaving the later lanes more or less unguarded, but this strategy of having a mobile assault force to overstack the Wardens is definitely worth a shot if you have enough people in the map.
