While I understand the OP’s point of view, I don’t think that the trailer gives away any major spoilers. We already knew that LA was going to be attacked based on the previous LS; this trailer is no different from a movie trailer showing some exciting action scenes.
I agree that it’s likely that LA will be rebuilt and re-occupied after the invasion. The city layout may be different, with new changes to indicate the effects of Scarlet’s invasion, but it will become the hub city again. As Shaenaeri pointed out, ANet is trying to create festival content that is re-usable so they don’t have to re-invent the wheel every time the holidays roll around; that lets them spend more time on developing new content.
Aww Rox’s eyes get me every time, she’s just so cute. Wait is that even right for a Human main to be saying/thinking?
Of course it is, my little kitten. Just close your eyes and hug that furry body tighter.
Evon and I have not always seen eye-to-eye (“Where’s my Black Lion Tickets, Evon?!”), but this is your chance to prove your worth to me, Gnashblade. Take up your blade and fight beside us! For Lion’s Arch!

I’m looking forward to this update.
It should be suitably climactic.
That said, I HIGHLY doubt LA will be destroyed and gone for good. This will likely only be a “temporary destruction”, after which it resumes its former role as the hub city of GW2, but with changes and new layouts to represent what has gone by.
Also, whoever came up with the “By Ogden’s Hammer, MY SAVINGS!” line needs to be hired by ANet immediately. XD
And seeing Evon running away from the BLTC building as it burns down was hilarious. Run, you fat cat!
What happens when the Mystic Forge blows up?

Everything that was ever thrown into the Mystic Forge is thrown out again in a massive loot explosion the likes of which no MMO has ever seen…
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:
Introduce MF recipes that allow us to convert excess Ascended mats of one type to another.
IMO, this is the way all armor should be.
Strutting around in armor you don’t care for because it is “prestigious” is just silly.
I use the Zenith skins on one character because I, shocking, I know, like the way they look on that character.
This is my personal philosophy too. Get armor/gear that YOU like the look of, because you’re the one who has to live with it at the end of the day. Who cares what other people think your gear looks like? You’re not here to impress them (and chances are they don’t care what you’re using either).
I concur with Kumu. Use up all your cyphers before next Tuesday’s patch. It MIGHT remain for longer (as was the case with the Tri-Key chest), but best not to risk it.
I don’t know if LA is going to be destroyed permanently. I suspect it’s going to be a temporary thing since destroying it would mean having to recreate stuff for Halloween/Wintersday again, which is something they’re trying to avoid so they can focus on creating new content rather than re-inventing the wheel every time the holidays roll around.
They mentioned that all services unique to LA (which basically means the Mystic Forge, and probably the karma vendors) will be moved to Vigil Keep, which again, I doubt is a permanent change.
And still keeping my fingers crossed for playable Tengu! Please, ANet, PLEEEEEEAASE!
The Marionette likely wouldn’t be feasible due to the sheer number of people needed for a kill, unless they turn it into a special kind of guild mission that could be started up “as needed” and therefore could take steps to gather up enough participants beforehand.
But that said, I see no reason why all the “story instances” couldn’t be available for replay through a Historian NPC. This includes other soloable instances like when Braham recaptured Cragstead or the fight against the Toxic Hybrid.
Generally, I find the lengthier and more descriptive your LFG post is, the better calibre of players you’ll get. Not sure why that is.
I’m inclined to agree with Ameepa. Good gear and meta builds are advantageous only up to a point; beyond that it relies on players knowing what to do and using skills at the correct time in such a way that it synergizes with their teammates to produce something exponentially better.
I’ve only been to two Wurm fights so far, but it seems that ANet has deliberately tried to make the 3 Wurms different enough that different playstyles are valued at different Wurms. Do you have a condition build? Go fight Crimson. Are you more tanky? You’re needed at Amber. Are you good at jumping? Cobalt needs you! Each Wurm requires DPS, of course, but it also tries to provide places where different builds can still shine.
Yes. There is a big exposition story instance in this one that makes it VERY worthwhile. Don’t worry about the WvW bit; all you need to do is enter Edge of the Mists and talk to the NPC that’s right in front of you. You’re in your “spawn point”, so you’re invulnerable and unreachable by enemies. You do not need to do any fighting whatsoever to progress the story.
Only one of the EotM LS achievements needs you to go out into the PvP areas, and you can skip it entirely if you’re only interested in story/lore.
While I’m always happy to take in newbies (that are willing to learn) in dungeons, I have to agree with the OP here; please read the LFG description before joining a group. If you do not meet their requirements, don’t waste their time and yours.
Technically “mounts” already exist in the form of the Broomstick and Sonic Tunneling Tool. I would be fine with different mounts being introduced as long as they didn’t give the player any in-game advantages such as increased travel speed.
However, given that ANet has recently broken the mold of “cosmetic and convenience benefits only” with the Watchwork Pick, I would be extremely hesitant to okay new mounts because of what they might bring with them.
I wrote a guide on how to beat Belcher’s Bluff a while ago. Check it out:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/bazaar/A-Guide-to-Belcher-s-Bluff/first#post2439690
Sadly, Adnul requires a healthy dose of luck to beat if you’re fighting him legally. (The odds are heavily stacked in his favour; see the “Special Notes” for him.) If you really can’t get past him, there’s a few sneaky tricks you can do to even the odds:
- Use a Rejuvenation Booster. Other health gain foods are removed when the match starts, but the Booster still works, and could be enough to tip the odds in your favour.
- Plant a Warrior Banner of Defense and Tactics nearby, close enough to affect you, but NOT Adnul.
- Outright cheat by using a Box O’ Fun. Put it down next to you, set it to Petrify mode, start the match, then immediately petrify yourself. You are invulnerable while petrified, and so you can just sit there and laugh at Adnul as he slowly drinks himself to death against a statue.
I run Scepter/Pistol and Staff, swapping in a Sword/Focus for when I need a melee weapon.
Yeah, the Laurels is a good extra “fee”.
It’s the only thing that I’m aware of, yeah, but it does confirm what Scarlet was after in LA, and gives Rox some more delicious character development.
The Captain’s Council has authorised me to offer you 6 random blues and greens and a Gift of Barnacles in your Home Instance. They’ll also throw in 100 AP to sweeten the deal.
^ And yet, there will always be players who go to a new area and think, “How can I squeeze the most money out of this?”
So, it seems that dataminers have dug up story spoilers for the end of the Living Story. I won’t go into any of it here, but let’s just say that I look forward to discussing the implications and consequences with you all once the patch goes live.
I know that AARM on Tarnished Coast makes a Tequatl attempt every weekend after reset, although I haven’t joined them before so I don’t know what their success rates are like.
1. Tengu
2. Krait/Naga
3. Skritt
I’ve always supported players being able to earn top-tier gear by playing the mode they want, so yes, I would support this proposal. It would probably be a combination of Badges + gold + various Ascended mats (Bloodstone Dust/Empyreal Fragments/Dragonite Ore), however, to make sure it wasn’t “easier” to get than crafting (which would nullify the secondary purpose of Ascended gear providing a big sink for low-level crafting mats).
Scarlet must die die die, die die die, die die.
No, the Captain’s Council is actually extremely clever. Why bother spending money investing in more defences when they know there are HORDES of powerful adventurers willing to defend their city for (essentially) free?
IF they do that, then I hope they make it retroactive as well, since the Bone Pick and the Watchwork Pick both cost 1000 gems, yet the Watchwork Pick has the sprockets while the Bone Pick doesn’t. (Technically the Molten Pick now costs 1000 gems too, as shown by the 2850 gems discounted price for all 3 tools during the New Year’s sale.)
Alright, I’ll grant you that point. We’ll have to see what happens if/when ANet re-releases the Molten/Bone Pick or introduces new unlimited tools.
@Behellagh: I hope so, but then you’d still have a case of people running around in the game with better tools than anybody can get. It may be small enough (and if sprockets continue to remain relatively cheap) that ANet can just ignore it, but if the price for Sprockets somehow skyrockets, then it’d be something they’d have to address.
At this stage I’m fairly certain that ANet wants to keep the Watchwork Pick as it is. The only question now is whether the Pick will be the last, or whether they have plans to introduce new tools/upgrade the existing tools so they also have special innate bonuses.
@Obtena: That’s one way of looking at it, but by that same argument, Ascended gear is also “not better” since it’s ridiculously expensive for a marginal benefit over Exotic. And yet, the high prices for T7 mats and Ascended recipes says that there are lots of players in the game still going for Ascended gear.
Didn’t get any Sovereign skins, don’t really want them, but as an ardent supporter of having everything tradable, I would support this.
While I would love to see this happen, I think the current system is far too entrenched (and much too profitable for ANet) for such a change to happen now.
If there was to be a discipline that crafts infusions, I’d think it would be Artificer, not Jeweler. After all, they’re the ones that refine infusions.
Personally I’d go with the karmic infusion. The XP infusion is pointless in a world where Scrolls of Knowledge exist in abundance, and the gold/MF infusions are only really useful if you kill lots and lots of enemies (so it may be worthwhile if you do a lot of farming in the open world. If your sources of income are more about speed running dungeons, for example, it won’t be that useful).
It is impossible to be scared when you have a 50 man zerg running all around you and particle effects obscuring everything.
Chainsaw-wielding Giant Skeleton: “Grrr, arrgh!”
Players: “Rainbow Pony to the face!”
It’s probably due to the innate buff that Giants have that make them immune to all control skills. Adult Karka have this buff too (although strangely the Karka Queen can be petrified).
Usually if you are experiencing problems like this, it means that your graphics card is overheating (and it’s automatically shutting itself down to avoid crashing the whole computer). Use a heat detection software like Speedfan and see what temperature your GPU is getting to before it blacks out/crashes.
If the GPU is crashing at temperatures below 80 degrees Celsius, you may be able to alleviate the problem by cleaning it of dust, manually boosting the fan speed using Speedfan, or replacing the thermal paste on the card (although the last is fairly hands-on and may not be something you’re capable of doing). Ultimately, such signs usually indicate that the card is on its way out and you should start shopping for a replacement.
Weird. It’s working for me. I can view my characters and everything too.
You know… I’d initially ruled out Evon because he’s, you know, a Charr and all, and it’d be pretty weird for Marjory not to notice that during their initial encounter. But then again, this IS a world where transformation tonics exist. Who’s to say that Evon didn’t just drink one before going out on whatever Ash Legion/sleuthing business he was up to?
It’s not a slippery slope. The undeniable fact is that the Watchwork Pick is better than any other pick available to players. As I mentioned previously, now that the bar has been set higher, ANet HAS to maintain this quality or better with future tools, or players just won’t buy it. It’s basic marketing wisdom. If Apple started selling future iPhones that all offered less features than your current version, would you “upgrade” or simply keep using your old one?
Yes, buying the unlimited tools to make money is a fool’s errand. Nobody’s questioning that. People bought the unlimited tools purely for convenience (never have to worry about buying more tools/swapping tools ever again) or aesthetics (I like seeing fancy particles when I harvest!). But the Watchwork Pick is the first tool that offers a tangible extra benefit above these two factors, and it represents a distinct shift in ANet’s previous stance that “gemstore items are for cosmetic and convenience purposes only”. Given that there’s been nothing but silence from ANet on this whole issue, I’m certain the Watchwork Pick won’t be the last. I’m just very wary of where this road might lead.
Oh, and personally speaking, I’d be ALL for humans and Charr being able to get married.
Except that that’s not what we’re concerned about. What we’re REALLY concerned about is the potential this has to turn into a “gear treadmill” of tools. Now that ANet has set the bar higher for the unlimited tools with the Watchwork Pick, future tools will either need to match or exceed what the Watchwork Pick can do, or players just won’t buy it. If ANet brings back the Molten Pick, for example, why would players ever buy it when they know the Watchwork Pick can do what it does + free sprockets?
Sure, there will be some players who would still buy the Molten Pick because of aesthetics, but gamers as a whole are ruthlessly calculative when it comes to picking “the best” for themselves. Sales would be very low, so in order to ensure players keep “upgrading”, ANet would have to keep making the tools better and better.
There is also a new POI in Gendarran Fields for the Not So Secret jumping puzzle (although you don’t need to actually complete the JP to get the POI).
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for an unlimited upgrade extractor.
I don’t care even if it costs 5000 gems; I’d buy one in a heartbeat.
I actually wonder if WvW might not be better served by a shift to colour vs colour as EotM does it, rather than sticking with the current system. Server pride is all well and good, but there’s more variability, more bodies and more non-stop action when you pool a big bunch of servers together.
They sometimes also drop from the various Wintersday Gifts, but that’s a pretty unreliable way of getting them.
Crafted Ascended trinkets may also come with an adjustable upgrade slot. That alone would make it much more valuable than the Ascended trinkets we can currently get through other channels.
Thanks for the research, Wanze.
So it seems like the kit quality DOES affect the chance to get rare mats back (although the increased chance is applied to the kit’s base salvage chance, NOT as a flat additive bonus), but unless you’re salvaging thousands of items, you might actually get better value just using a Crude Kit/Matic for everything bar items you’re trying to get upgrades/Ecto off.
For me it’s due to RP reasons. My human character is a descendent of my GW1 Warrior (Ascalonian) and Assassin (Canthan), so she looks more white/Asian. To be honest, I didn’t even know that black Norns existed when I started GW2 (all Norn in GW1 were white), so I made my Norn character with tanned skin (to represent the fact that, as a Ranger, she would have spent more time outdoors).
My Asura is something of a bookworm, and so I gave him pale grey skin to show that he probably didn’t spend much time outdoors. My Charr? Well, he’s just a plain old brown-furred kitty. XD And my Sylvari looks like a D&D dryad, all browns and greens.
Back in GW1 Nightfall, I made my Paragon black because being Elonian, he would have been black.
